you can only know if an angel and a demon are in love by waiting a few millenia because they are weird and that's how it works

So. I've never paid too much attention to the thing where Aziraphale stands always on the right side of Crowley and vice versa.
But Crowley actually says it out loud in s2 ep1 when they are about to make a miracle together:
"You take his right hand, I'll take his left."
I mean. They are very purposeful about it. When Jim crossed his hands and tries to give them in the opposite way, both Crowley and Aziraphale reach for the hands on their own sides, like it actually matters to them. Angel on the right shoulder. Demon on the left shoulder.
And why does Jim cross his arms in the first place? He sees them as equal, doesn't care for the sides, doesn't know their difference, so here, have any hand, he doesn't care.
But they care. "You take his right hand, I'll take his left." They still feel that that's their natural order. That's how they've always been. And they kind of acknowledge it out loud by saying which hands each should take.
So, good for them for starting to shake it up during s2.

"apparently if we do a miracle together it all works a bit too well" listen LISTEN i think this is why. i think the magnitude and power of that miracle they did together is what alerted the metatron and why he has come to separate them by all means, because they have not realized yet quite how powerful they are together and what that could mean!! this is why, i think???? they used to do each other's miracles and temptations for each other, but never with, and that could change everythign and could get in the way of certain Ineffable Plans (that i don't think are necessarily God's, looking at you villain metatrash)

Thinking about how Crowley seems so cheerful and unbothered in the flashbacks. He's cheerfully lugging the corpses from the graveyard, and happily taking Aziraphale to buy magic tricks.
Contrast that to how tense he is in present day. Everything ought to be better, but he is depressed ("what's the point") and tense (living in his car, often arguing with Aziraphale).
One reason is obviously the anxiety caused by Heaven and Hell, Gabriel appearing, etc.
But a more interesting reason is because it's much harder to be satisfied.
They used to have the Arrangement. It used to be obvious that it was all they’d ever have. It was limiting, but it was familiar and comfortable. And they knew how to work with the limitations.
Now, Heaven and Hell have let them go, and suddenly there are options. The arrangement doesn’t define them anymore. They have a new chance to define their relationship. Are they friends? An “item”? The possibility of further intimacy with Aziraphale is just out of the reach. Crowley sees it dangling there, without knowing if it’s actually reachable. Maybe it is? Maybe not? It’s different kind of uncertainty. Not so easy to be satisfied with what you have when you almost have more.
So, when Beez and Gabriel prove that it's possible, it’s no wonder Crowley is quick to take the leap.
