So since last night it occurred to me to make the chip that made Grounder a genius in Grounder the Genius in my AU end up becoming a kind of glitch and series a real villain there… I am very satisfied with its design I think I will to draw often :3

a post oomf made on a private account just now reminded me that i drew these for our group chat earlier this year:
a not-so-quick mini comic showing how genius grounder (we call him gene btw), as a professor, has to handle accidentally dropping something in front of us as his students...

errm, there's a little something extra under "Keep reading"

oh, you actually decided to look?
alright welp, here goes- the abridged alt version where a somewhat horny gene gives no fucks and fakes the accidental part of situation to open the opportunity to flash his fat ass at us 🫠

Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog - Grounder The Genius (Screenshots & Review)
Tumblr media
An episode themed around Grounder? Yes, please!
The episode starts with Robotnik yelling at his computer because it is taking a long time to do something (something I'm sure many of us can relate to). He is copying a program into a microchip that he is going to use to boost the power of his own brain. His invention is a success, and with his new brain power he sends Scratch and Grounder out to use a new trap design he cooked up.
Tumblr media
Robotnik’s big goofy helmet is a lot of fun.
Tumblr media
The design of the trap does prove to be quite clever and almost kill Sonic - it subverts his expectations by looking really crummy on the surface, but then also incorporates fake dummy versions of Scratch and Grounder which are used to distract Sonic while they activate a larger secondary trap. Sonic just barely manages to escape, feeling quite impressed that he almost got taken out this time. Sonic tells about what happened and thinks Robotnik must have a new super computer or something. Tails suggests they go see his friend hacker as he might be able to tell them more about what could be going on.
Scratch and Grounder return to their crappy father and Robotnik threatens to start using Grounder as a paper weight, which makes him cry. :( Poor Grounder....
After bullying his children for a while, he finds out that the update he was working on for his brain booster software was stolen by a hacker whom deleted his own copy of the file after taking it. Robotnik sends his badniks out to find the culprit and get the software copy back.
Tumblr media
Sonic and Tails arrive at Hackers place and he tells about the new software he stole from Robotnik...you know, my wife has suggested I make videos of my Sonic reviews, and I hope I never have to do sponsorship ads in my videos. but if I did end up in such a situation....I can see this scene being a good Segway for one of those cheesy nordvpn/expressvpn ads.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Scratch and Grounder arrive at Hackers place, detecting that there was a lot of computer activity in the area. They proceed to just blow up Hackers entire home to get to the stolen software!! Sonic beats up Scratch and Grounder, and as Grounder is trying to reassemble the parts that fell out of his head, he accidentally takes the microchip that Hacker was storing the genius program on. This turns him into "Doctor Grounder", the super genius. Sadly, the chip seems to mess with his personality, kinda like The Glasses of Nerdicon did to Finn in Adventure Time. He becomes less of a silly goober and more of a smug douchebag. Before Scratch can figure out whats going on, Robotnik comes to retrieve them both and is impressed by Grounders new intellect. Grounder has a new idea for capturing Sonic and Robotnik agrees to hand Scratch over to him as an assistant before the three of them head home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When both Grounder and Robotnik get their “big brain time”, it makes a funny fart noise. 😁 Hacker, whom is taking the destruction of his home surprisingly well, is reluctant to help Sonic and Tails go confront Robotnik about the new software he made. Sonic goes ahead to the fortress, but Grounder quickly traps him using something very similar to Robotnik's Stopper Zapper Ray.  Grounder has Sonic thrown in the dungeon, and his smugness eventually pisses off Robotnik enough that he tries to switch him Grounder off, but Grounder has disabled his off switch. He then orders Scratch to beat Robotnik up and throw him in the dungeon as well. Turns out Scratch is actually quite tough, and gives him several sports themed wallopings, which is probably pretty cathartic since Robotnik has abused him his whole life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Poor Sonic. Not only is this the second time he’s been Stopper-Zapped, but it’s also the second time he got frozen making a stupid face!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tails has to convince his wimpy friend Hacker to help him rescue Sonic. It takes some doing!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just Scratch doing normal chicken things....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eventually Scratch puts Robotnik into the dungeon with Sonic, and after he leaves, Tails and Hacker show up at one of the windows. Hacker is able to use suction cups on the Stopper Zapper pistol Scratch left behind and hack it to reverse Sonic’s immobilized state. Suction cups are the same as USB cables in this world, I guess?
...Wait, did USB cables even exist when this show came out? *checks the internet box* Nope! ...Christ I'm old....
Anyway! With Sonic now freed, our heroes try to find a way of defeating Grounder. It takes some doing, as Grounder is very clever now, but eventually Scratch comes running and falls on top of Grounder, knocking his head lose which Robotnik (who had managed to escape the prison as well) grabs and removes the microchip from. As Robotnik is about to put the chip in, Sonic replaces it with a "stupidity chip" Hacker made, causing him to start babbling like a fool and playing with an explosive that Sonic had brought along.
Eventually a lighting rod weapon that Grounder was using to attack Sonic with hits them instead, causing a large explosion as our heroes leave the area. In the Sonic Says Segment, Sonic talks to the audience about how it's good to study, use your brain, and do lots of reading. Sound advice!
This episode was pretty darn fun. Genius Grounder is a bit of douche, but he still retains some of that charm that makes him so lovable, and it was cool seeing Scratch and Grounder actually rise up against Robotnik after all the abuse he puts them through.
Til next time, stay cool and be good people!

What are their dynamics like with each other?
For Robo Roommates
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aw HELL YEAH group dynamics!
I've simplified them into 5 categories that sort of speak for themselves, though I should specify that everyone here gets along great so the 'Friends' category is for close friendships specifically. As for the 'Siblings' category, it's for siblings and 'sibling-like' relationships.
Scratch and Grounder already viewed each other as siblings as we all know, but after some time of D.U.F.U.S. living with them and looking after them in different ways, they started to see him as an older brother figure. Both of them are terrified of thunder and Doof was the first to try to help them with it. He has watched their Edgar Eagle VHS tapes with them countless times and lets them talk about the show at length. The twins look up to him ; and he's grown to care about them like family.
Coconuts was somewhat jealous of this relationship for a time, but when others joined the Sanctuary it greatly eleviated those feelings.
The other family unit is Bocoe, Decoe, and Bokkun. Shocking, I know. Bocoe and Decoe have been a couple for years at this point, long before they were abandonned and kicked out by Eggman. They're deeply affectionate towards each other and are very rarely seen apart ; if ever. They also built Bokkun! Eggman wanted a messenger robot but couldn't be bothered to build one himself (he'd much rather work on his giant fighting mechs), so he drew up some quick plans and handed the task off to his two underlings. Bocoe and Decoe took a few liberties but Bokkun was eventually born and they instantly grew attached to their little boy.
Speaking of their little boy, Bocoe and Decoe are lucky to have quite a few people in the Sanctuary who enjoy looking after him. Scratch and Grounder particularly like the little guy ; and so does Cubot once he joins the group. D.U.F.U.S. occasionally helps with the babysitting as well.
Finally, the friendships!
Scratch and Bocoe' friendship was born from something the two agreed on a long time ago. They both have people they care deeply about ; people they cannot let anything happen to. So Scratch and Bocoe agreed that if something happened to either of them, the other would help take care of their family. From there however, this simple agreement grew into a a close friendship: they could understand each other ; what it's like to have a family to look after.
Coconuts was always a bit of a loner- while a part of Grounder and Scratch's family, he never considered them as his siblings and they never considered him one either. He appreciates Bocoe and Decoe, but doesn't relate to them in terms of their relationship to one another or their roles as parents. But when Orbot- someone who had been hurt by their creator in similar ways and still struggled with remnant feelings of loyalty towards him ; something Coconuts himself had experienced in the very beginning ; joined the Sanctuary, the two naturally gravitated towards each other. They can spend hours talking about nothing and while Orbot can't eat, he greatly enjoys helping Coconuts cook.
Cubot and Grounder have a much more lighthearted, fun kind of friendship. They're two dumbots just out to have fun. Cubot thinks Grounder's many integrated tools are sooo cool ; and Grounder thinks Cubot's ideas are genius and amazing (which... compared to Grounder's... Yeah Cubot probably is capable of genius-level thinking). They particularly enjoy walking through the yet unexplored parts of the Sanctuary and try to map it out to see if they can find anything useful.

Worldbuilding Tips: How to Find Inspiration
Tumblr media
Picture this. You’re minding your own business when out of nowhere you’re struck with creative genius. This new story idea consumes your every waking thought, playing out like a brilliant movie inside your head. However, when you try to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard), words fail you. It’s a dilemma all writers face in their career. How do you turn an idea into reality? Don’t fight it. Explore it.
Fun Fact: There’s no right or wrong place to begin building your fictional world. You define your creation journey. The trick is finding what works best for you specifically.
Are you more visual? Pinterest is a great source of inspiration. Keyword searches are your friend. What is a keyword? It’s a “significant word from a title or document used especially as an index to content.” Type in a word(s) into the search bar that summarizes the aesthetic you’re visualizing and let the magic happen. This could be anything from a color, time period, genre, trope, etc. Take one of my own creations, Scavenge Clan, for example. Keywords I associate with it include: hyena, werehyena, bones, gothic, scavenger, vulture culture, vultures, black-haired women, death. Over time, your searches will affect your algorithm, giving you more ideas that line up with your stories in the long run.
Are you more auditory? Creating Spotify playlists that remind you of your story and/or characters can help give you more inspiration and set the mood for when you start writing.
Are you both visual and auditory? I love collecting fan made tribute videos on YouTube of TV shows and movies that give me a source of inspiration for my stories. For example, the TV show Grimm with a splash of the grounders from The 100 inspired my main story universe The Culling Wars.
Wherever you draw inspiration from, take advantage of it. Use it to expand your ideas and to help you when you’re feeling stuck. Remember that every bestselling novel started as a mere idea.

Tails ~
What I like about them
Tails fits the definition of a classical antihero. While nowadays we think of antiheroes as brooding types who are willing to do less-than-heroic things to get the job done, in classical literature an antihero was a character who, while heroic, displayed personality traits that weren't often associated with heroes. For instance, a classical antihero might be wrangle with self-doubt where a classical hero is confident. A classical antihero may be physically weak where a classical hero is physically strong, so on and so forth. Frodo Baggins is an example of a classical antihero, and so, too, is Tails. And I like this because it gives us interesting avenues to explore his character from. Sonic is great, but as a traditional hero he doesn't wrangle with things like self-doubt or anxiety. What you see is what you get with him: just a guy who loves adventure. But perhaps in part due to being a literal genius, Tails is a lot more cerebral and there's a lot more introspection with him, particularly given his shortcomings and weaknesses. Exploring the ways he grows and learns to work with his anxieties and traumas, rather than against them, makes his character really interesting.
Also, he is so fucking cute oh my god.
What I dislike about them
His character writing has been, to put it politely, inconsistent over the years. He went through all that growth in the Adventure games just to have it completely ripped the fuck away from him in later ones (particularly Forces). It's not great and most days I pretend I do not see it.
Favourite moment
In the games: Either the moment he threw hands with Eggman when he thought Eggman had killed Sonic in Adventure 2, or the acknowledgement of his issues and his whole arc in Frontiers rolled up into one.
In animation: Either saying that Sonic was his "mom, dad, and picket fence" in AoStH, or the episode in AoStH where Sonic was turned to stone and so Tails spent the whole episode trolling Scratch and Grounder Home Alone style. Again, he is so fucking cute oh my god.
In the IDW comics: Either catching Sonic with the Tornado in the middle of the Angel Island arc, or crashing the airship into Neo Metal at the end of that arc, or when he said goodbye to the Cyclone because he had to sacrifice her during the Metal Virus arc, or when he figured out how to take down Surge in their fight against her in the city, or defending Sonic from Kit, or immediately building guns to go save Sonic in the Scrapnik Island mini series, or . . .
Least favourite moment
Forces 🙃All of Forces. I hate it so fucking much.
Also not a fan of how they made him fight Sonic in the Archie comics. Really, any situation which pits those two against each other is an automatic Nope.gif in my books. I will smack that back button so fast, don't test me.
A situation with this character that I want to see explored more
How he's developing his technology to utilize clean energy! We see that he's using hydro power to fuel the Mystic Ruins workshop in the IDW comics; I want more exploration on how Tails' development of technology is not only not detrimental to the planet, but actually works to reverse the damage that Eggman does. Technology doesn't have to destroy the planet; it can be a clean force for good, too!
An interesting AU for this character
Can I promote my own fic Beyond Oblivion? Because that's an interesting AU to me!
A crossover
I'm still very much in love with my Night in the Woods crossover, where Tails spends an autumn in Possum Springs during his solo journeys. All anthro stories take place in the same universe and this one happens in my head and in my heart even if Sega thinks it could never work in canon. Sega doesn't pay me, they can't dictate what I do.
OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship)
None. In fact, adaptations that have tried to give Tails romances (Archie, Sonic X, Boom) are off-putting to me because they try to give Tails romances. He doesn't need a romance for his story to be interesting! In fact, I think a romance arc for him is far more boring than the alternatives like exploring how he overcomes his inner demons or focusing on the clean energy alternatives he creates to improve the world. And even if you want to explore him with other characters, platonic relationships and platonic love stories are a thing! Tails' brotherly relationship with Sonic, his friendships with Amy and Knuckles—these are interesting stories and romance isn't a part of them. Destroy the heterosexual notion that every character must be paired off for a story to be good.
Other ships?
Nope.
BROTP
His big bro Sonic, of course! Like I said above, platonic love stories are a thing, and the platonic love story in Sonic and Tails finding a family in each other when they were both orphaned has been one of my favorites since I was four years old. I don't think that's going to change any time soon.
NOTP
I wish people who ship Sonic with Tails romantically a very do not ever interact with me, ever, in any capacity. Thank you.
An assortment of headcanons!
I have a lot! You can read some here, and here, and here :)

chiaki’s sun motif is very very prominent throughout his entire character thats nothing u need to be a genius to notice of course of course its in his ryusei red introduction its in how others describe him its in his cards its in the very fabric of who he is. but mannn man do i love thinking about it. i LOVE sun motifs and chiaki’s is SO especially interesting and arghh for me because of the different ways its portrayed - hes the sun not only because of his gravitational pull, because of his center role, because of how passionate and warm and bright he is but also in the sense of “burning” - how he burns people with his red hot passion, he burns so hot it becomes overbearing and those near experiencing the brunt of it (tetora, midori, ex ryuseitai) must pull away or attempt to extinguish it - and in the sense that he feels he can never burn out, he must continue providing light and warmth for everyone else
comparatively, shinobu’s light motif also established in his ryusei yellow introduction etc accumulates in him being a continuous guide in the darkness, the continuous mediator and grounder to the rest of ryuseitai in their conflicts, he shines so bright but he never burns and his allowance in himself to be vulnerable and be helped by others only makes him shine brighter…..

Are the ArchieSonic comics actually an 80's/90's syndicated cartoon? Episode 34: Idiot comic relief character becomes a genius
Welcome back to my look at the ArchieSonic comic series, and how it shared a lot of the same story tropes as a typical ‘80s or ‘90s syndicated cartoon! I’ve got another classic cartoon trope here for you today, so shall we take a look?
Episode 34: Idiot comic relief character becomes a genius
I remember them actually doing this one in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog with Grounder.
Tumblr media
That was fun. :) But in ArchieSonic? It was Tails who got this one, although admittedly he was never portrayed as an idiot comic relief character. He was mostly just portrayed as a little kid, well-meaning but often clumsy or not entirely understanding what was going on around him.
Tumblr media
Sonic #14’s story, “Tails’ Taste of Power,” featured Tails desperately wanting to find a way to assist his hero Sonic, and so he reluctantly agreed to take over the plant-sitting job Sonic had agreed to do in Rotor’s greenhouse. While watering Rotor’s plants Tails got hungry, and so he helped himself to an apple from a nearby tree. That tree just so happened to be the Mobius Tree of Wisdom, and that apple had been the only one that Rotor had managed to grow from it.
Tumblr media
Sonic and Rotor returned to the greenhouse to find that Tails had instantly become a genius, and created a new fertiliser that had caused Rotor’s plants to grow at an incredible rate. Before the three of them could really absorb the news of Tails’ new big brain, Antoine ran in screaming that Sally and Bunnie were under attack by a giant robot. Sonic ran to save the day, but Tails got there first and tricked the robot into destroying itself with its own saw blades.
Tumblr media
Tails’ new and improved brain seemed to come with a massive ego boost though, and he announced that he was now the natural choice to be the new leader of the Freedom Fighters. Tails tried to prove his worth by inventing a new metal that would be unreadable by Robotnik’s sensors, and using it to build a housekeeping robot and a medallion for himself.
Tumblr media
But when the Freedom Fighters tried to convince him that he was too inexperienced to lead the team, Tails decided that the only way for him to prove he was the best man for the job was to race off to Robotropolis and confront Robotnik single-handedly.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately his super-intelligence wore off just as had successfully evaded every single security measure and entered Robotnik’s lab, and Tails was immediately captured. But Sonic showed up to save the day, tricking Robotnik into thinking Tails’ unreadable metal medallion was a bomb and threatening to use it if Robotnik didn’t let Tails go.
Tumblr media
While Tails’ intelligence seemed to go back to normal afterwards, many years later it was retroactively explained in the Mobius Encyclopedia that the fruit had actually had a lasting effect on Tails and was the reason for his genius-level intellect that rivals Eggman’s. I think that’s a neat little bit of continuity, finding a reason to connect the intelligence that we know modern Tails for with this old comic story.
That’s it from me for today. Are there any other sudden genius stories I missed? Remind me in the comments! Next time I’ll be discussing the final frontier, or as King Acorn would call it:

I’m not sure if I asked this before, but I think I will anyways. Favorite AoStH episode?
i only watched like. the first 3 episodes and grounder the genius before bailing, i'm uncomfortable actually watching the show. too formulaic and stubborn on torturing our boys, i'm good
so if not grounder the genius, then probably slowwww going, that one was kinda fun from what i remember

Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog - Mad Mike, Da Bear Warrior (Screenshots & Review)
Tumblr media
Where is Tails’ other arm?!
Here's another episode starring "Da Bears", which also happens to be a Mad Max spoof. Neat!
Tumblr media
The episode starts with Tails rescuing a rabbit named "Updike" who was being chased by Scratch and Grounder  - and I wanted to make a lesbian joke here, but ti seems he is actually named this based to an author named John Updike. Mr. up-lesbian bunny tells Sonic about the fact he just escaped from a prison slave camp where Robotnik was forcing the members of his village to build a monument on top of a mountain of his head, not allowing them to eat, and keeping them from returning home by booby trapping the road back to their homes.
Tumblr media
Scratch gonna make you an offah you can’t refuse...?
To stage a rescue operation, Sonic and Tails go to a scrapyard to meet up with Da Bears. Tails helps them build a giant big rig full of chili dogs to bring to the starving slaves. We get to see a cool sequence of them testing out its strength, driving around the scrapyard smashing up cars, but then Scratch and Grounder show up to cause trouble. They manage to kidnap Big Mike and star to interrogate him when Sonic shows and starts manipulating the badniks into telling them what all of the hidden booby traps along the road are. After getting the info they need, Sonic breaks Big Mike out of his cell and they go back to the truck to start making their along the road. Sonic apologizes for letting scratch and Grounder pester him as long as he did, but Big Mike doesn't mind - he likes being angry! (anger is a good motivator, I can relate)
Tumblr media
We get to see Tails’ mechanical genius in action!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sonic is dressed kinda like Wes Weasely. He even has that funny plaid jacket. :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The interrogation scene is pretty cute. Poor scratch can barely read his instruction book, but he tries his best. He is so committed to the bit that he even orders  Mike to say typical interrogation resistance lines.
The rest of the episode is quite action packed! Scratch and Grounder tail them along the road, trying various ways to stop them. At one point they also get attached by a biker gang called the "toad warriors" (cute!). In a last ditch effort to stop the heroes, Scratch and Grounder set up an instant-castle and an instant robo-knight named Sir Humongous, whom is formidable at first, but then Tails turns the chili dog truck into a freakin' dragon! Pretty cool. The chili dog truck dragon scares away Sir Humongous and they finally arrive at the construction site with a weird flowery screen transition.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The toad warriors give chase!
Tumblr media
But then their bikes all explode. I hope that skull was one of their decorations and not their own skull!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sir Humongous gives chase to Da Bears!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As if Tails’ big rig truck wasn’t cool enough, it also turns into a dragon!
Tumblr media
Sonic is proud of his little bro. :)
Tumblr media
Robotnik arrives to yell at the slaves while they're all eating, and they gang on up on him to run them off. Robotnik flees into the nose of his own giant statue head (hey, it’s kinda like that one part in Sonic 3D Blast!) and then escapes in his little egg-o-matic vehicle. Sonic decides to then reconstruct the big Robotnik head into a monument honoring "Da Bears". Robotnik tries calling Scratch and Grounder to take out his frustrations on them, but they're currently squished under the shoe of Sir Humongous and decide they don't want to bother picking up. Robotnik yells out "this is disgusting! I can't even yell at anyone!". Well, doc, you could always make a twitter account if you want to yell at random people, I guess...
Tumblr media
Seems like the slaves were so hungry they didn’t even wait for chili and hot dog buns. Poor bunnies. Glad they were rescued!
Tumblr media
Booger time for Robotnik!
Tumblr media
Poor Sir Humongous....he seems pretty down after being scared away by the dragon. Apparently he had a growth spurt too, because Scratch and Grounder are stuck to the bottom of his shoe!
In the Sonic Says segment, the up-rug-munch rabbit is walking around with a headache when Grounder comes by and trips, dropping his own prescription of robot headache pills. He's about to try to steal some (dude, what the hell?) when Sonic comes and points out to him that taking someone else's medicine can make you sick. True, and it's also a messed up thing to do because they need that stuff for themself!
Tumblr media
This episode was pretty fun! I was not expecting a mad max spoof from Sonic, just as I didn't see it coming when Eek The Cat did a Pulp Fiction parody. There was lots of cool action, we got to see Tails’ mechanical skills, an awesome dragon truck, some good Scratch and Grounder silliness, and Da Bears are pretty likable characters as well. Good stuff!
Til next time, stay cool!
