The Big Reveal

Got the plastic off and laid out to dry, so of course it starts raining.

The deconstruction always goes more quickly than the assembly we do in the fall. We were so lucky to have two gentlemen help us. They are young, strong and flexible; we lure them in with money and chocolate.

I just had a thought. A horrible terrible thought that really should have come to me earlier, but seeing The Sunken Tomb in animated form made me realize it and go 'oh. OH.'

Percy's accidental killing of Vex by triggering that trap is what sets up everything that leads to Vax walking away with snowdrops and feathers.

If he hadn't set that trap off, Vex wouldn't have died. If Vex didn't die, Vax doesn't become the Raven Queen's champion. Vax isn't Her champion, he doesn't necessarily become her revenant during Vecna, and doesn't need to leave his family and friends behind to go be a demigod of death, being essentially dead and gone to those who knew and loved him.

In a way, Percy killed both the twins. One of them permanently.

I BET HE THINKS ABOUT THAT ALL THE DAMN TIME. I'M CERTAINLY GOING TO NOW. FUCK.

so I was thinking about ep12 (as I am contractually obligated to do every 3-5 business days), and I keep coming back to this bit.

it's pretty obvious that pete really fucking wants what vegas is offering here. and I think he knows that he wants it. look at him!!! his head is tilted, his neck is exposed, he CLOSES HIS EYES AND STANDS STILL. he's ready for vegas to initiate something, but he refuses to do it himself.

and I think the reason why pete refuses to make the final move is because he's come up with a rule to follow during his captivity, and this rule is what keeps him sane. he's been captured, he's been tortured and knows that the torture isn't going to end any time soon. he's going to have to do things he doesn't want to do, he's going to have things done to him that he doesn't want - or worse, he is gonna want it. and so the only way he can keep any agency is by some small measure of control over his own behavior.

if I had to guess, here is the rule:

it's ok if vegas does something to me, and it's ok if I like it. I can't help what I like, and I can't control his actions. but under no condition am I allowed to ask for it. if I do, then instead of him taking from me, I gave it to him, and then he wins.

he knows it's coming. he felt vegas lick at his neck during that phone call with his grandmother, he felt vegas skim over his tattoo, pressing deliciously at a bruise along the way, getting dangerously close to his groin. vegas keeps him half-naked, probably watches him shower, definitely watches him sleep. vegas is going to try something, and pete's deepest darkest desires are going to betray him because he's gonna be aroused by it. he's gonna want it so badly. but we only kiss people we like. we only give ourselves to people who give themselves back to us. pete will not give himself to vegas. he can't. it's all he has left.

but then vegas bandages him tenderly, gives him medicine and water, kisses him (pete doesn't react, and maybe it's because he's dead tired, but maybe it's because he knew this was coming and purposefully kept himself so so still). he gives him normal food, lets him roam around the room. he gives him the key to escape. and of course this confuses the shit out of pete!!!!

I think if the above scene had happened before the bandaging, or even before the hedgehog funeral, vegas would have walked away and pete would have let him. but he doesn't just want it physically, now. he's caught up in this emotionally too

so as vegas stands there trailing his nose against pete's skin, breath mingling with pete's breath, pete is only holding back because he's got this rule that he has to follow. he needs to. (but does he? what if he just - gave in. he wants it. just give up now-)

no! no. he's not going to give vegas what he wants. but it's ok, because vegas will take it from him (please take it please please-)

and then vegas walks away. and in a haze of desire, a swoop of his stomach, is vegas really not going to- pete forgets himself. turns around, grabs him, and pulls him back. it's everything he's ever wanted - but not the way he wanted it. and with it, he breaks the most important rule he's set for himself.

("I didn't want it," he says later. I had one thing I was keeping for myself, and I gave it away. and for what.)

yeah natori is 23 and since matoba is one year younger, he's 22 at the very start of the manga/anime :))) i think it was like around season 3 of natsume when i learned this and went ????????????? and had to go lie down for a while

unacceptable. midorikawa-sensei answer for your crimes. the thing that's killing me currently is i know i learned this information back when i read a bunch of fic after watching the show for the first time - which was less than a year ago - but apparently REPRESSED IT because it was sooo does not compute. and then had to learn it all over again just recently. my poor brain tried so hard to protect me from this knowledge but alas.

FREE THEM they're baby adults they should not have this kind of weight on their shoulders and have like. employees and shit!!! "oh look a dumbass teenager with a heart of gold. how about i protect him with my life" HOW ABOUT YOU WORRY ABOUT YOURSELF YOU MAN-SIZED CATERPILLAR!!! they need to be in their cocoon era not in their head-of-the-family life-and-death-decision-making era. when you're 22 you're legally obligated to make questionable life choices and it seems self-evident you should not have to be forming lifelong contracts with supernatural beings until after you've gotten some of that out of your system but WHAT DO I KNOW, i'm just a thirtysomething with over a decade on natori who still does the modern-day equivalent of unplugging my answering machine so people can't leave me cursed voicemails. i look back on my 23yo self and i want to cry from how much she was learning and how hard she was trying. i love her so much it breaks my heart. stop putting these young men into situations they need to be in situations but maybe ones less fraught with mortal consequences. maybe some situations more along the lines of figuring out the hard way not to buy dryclean-only shirts because who has time to go to the drycleaners? that's just one idea, i've got more of these. midorikawa-sensei are you listening??

weird random 4am thoughts abt human bodies

sometimes i do wish i wasnt ace literally just bc im so fascinated by human bodies but i never get the chance to see any but my own!! like, ive been learning abt how hypermobile i am over the past few years, and i feel like i wouldve figured it out way earlier if id had other ppl to compare myself to. even just like, natural body variations are so cool to me. scars and birthmarks and wrinkles and stretchmarks and rolls and body hair and just! everything!

i wish nudity/the human body wasnt such a taboo in north american culture. ive even been tempted to watch porn literally just so i can see what other ppls bodies look like 😭😭😭 i do think thats why im so interested in watching medical/anatomy videos like the institute of human anatomy tho, and why ive considered going into the mortuary/funeral industry. i just think bodies are neat!
