"traveler, lady ningguang has called you into the jade chamber. please, inscribe this so i can give it to her as a signal of your soon-to-be arrival." formal in words, the girl stepped a foot back expecting a smile from me. you nod, my arms full in the flier. returning it to the secretary, you resume the start on your journey.

・❥・you make your way onto the lifty jade chamber, expecting that ningguang needs something for you, like... construction work help, or retrieving something that'll come in handy. after a short presentation of your appearance in the jade chamber, going into the empty dining hall, the platinum white accompanied woman requested to appear. "ah yes, i didn't expect you to arrive as unseasonably as wanted. that's alright, traveler." she set down her glass, still neat in her words. "it's been years, at most, right? i can barely see you down there." ningguang, who seems oh kind and friend-like during a day at work can be very relentless in business, except her work is business.

・❥・you nod as the conversation takes an unrecognizable flow. as more regions glide into your arms, you slowly lose the people which chose to be a part of my life, yet you could detect the baring pains that come with never having them. ningguang smiles at you, eyes laid straight. you take long to realize you forgot to speak, and probably weren't listening to deeply either. "apologies, am i going to fast? um, allow me to rewind-" you attempted to make sure you were listening to her words more than listening to your mind. after an unexpected request, you nod and put some food in your bag before leaving. it hasn't been a short time, at all, since your last break. instead, feeling like taking a break feels like cheating. you suppose, that's the daily life of a warrior.

・❥・you head to a beside inn where your 'quest' was to just relax and have a talk. the inn was quite like a rest lodge for labor workers, as the style and facility heavily featured that. as the elderly and wise of the world speak, "all of history is laying right in front of your eyes wherever you leap, you simply just don't put your mind into its beauty." - you're left alone until the familiar face enters, disrupting the coteries beside you. ningguang brought a sweet glass of cherry tea. the two of you continued to talk about your journeys and ningguang gave you a talk about the future and the organizations she knew that could possibly cater to your needs.

the day ended deeply, and your mind being stuffed, you could only doze off in slumber after the activity.

⚙️A Pair Of Cold Yet Warm Metal Hands - Zhongli x Automaton!Fem!Reader⚙️ (OLD)

Summary: Zhongli is a being with feelings, but how does one "feel" when they don't have any?

Word count: ~2k

Warning(s): Dark themes (death and murder), blood. Grammar mistakes probably, I am not an English native speaker.

Genre: Hurt/Comfort, Angst, fluff

P.S. This is inspired by a song -- Kokoronashi! Zhongli is a pretty hard character to write for xD He talks in a very flowery(?) language. I hope he doesn't sound OOC here- but hey, I'll never learn unless I try :')

Autumn leaves started to fall as winter was right around the corner. The consultant of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor -- Zhongli, decided to take a stroll outside before the time to greet winter arrives, relishing the warmth that autumn still has to offer.

Leisurely walking down the road, he noticed something, or rather someone. He came to a stop and there was an unconscious woman lying against a rock.

He cautiously walked towards her. For all he knew, this could be a trap.

"Pardon me, are you alright?" he called out, but there was no response.

He thought she was someone from around here, but upon closer inspection. She didn't look exactly... human. Something seemed off about her. At the corner of his eye, he saw something glowing. He looked to the side and there was what looked to be a core of some sort on the ground.

He knew he has seen it somewhere, but he couldn't tell what it was. The core emitted a warm glow. It looked colorful, strangely full of life.

As he was about to pick it up, it flew out of his grasp and flew to the woman. A bit taken back, he stood back and watched the scene unfold before him.

The core flew to where the woman's chest was and the body absorbed it.

Chaos fell upon the godless nation.

Families ripped apart.

The lives of the innocents were taken away forcefully.

Once screams of joy turned to terror.

"Escape from this horrid place, angel... for this land is no longer called home, but a disaster."

The woman slowly opened her eyes and she took a look at her surroundings. She was scanning the area but then she laid her eyes upon the man in front of her.

Zhongli was a bit uneased by the silent staring, he decided to ask her a question as a distraction.

"Ah, you're awake. Are you alright? I was just passing by and I saw you lying here unconscious."

She stayed quiet, with only her eyes lingering on him. Her mouth trembled, but no words came out.

'Perhaps she's too tired to say anything?'

Zhongli didn't ask any further and held out his hand instead "Here."

Still, nothing.

Well, this was quite the predicament.

Before he could say anything, the woman stood up. Zhongli noticed her movements were quite stiff. Expressionless and the movements somewhat rigid... the description reminded him of someone.

He has seen the puppet of the electro archon - The Raiden Shogun. Having been walking these grounds for millennia, it was quite out of the ordinary as this was the first time he encountered one in Liyue. Perhaps this was another god's creation similar to the Shogun? And one that he has never seen nor heard of said god? Quite impossible for an acknowledgeable person like him, as he is basically a walking encyclopedia. But hey, he's a living being, no one is perfect.

"Well, you seem unharmed. Please be more cautious in the future. I best be on my way then, it was nice meeting you."

Zhongli bidded farewell and walked away, only for him to turn back around as he heard footsteps following him. "Hm? Is there anything you need help with?" and as expected, no answer.

He continued his journey back to Liyue Harbor and the stranger kept on following him. There was nothing he could really do about it. For now, he would just let her follow him like a lost puppy.

On their way back, they came across a destroyed ruin and a ruin guard with a shattered core.

The woman abruptly stopped her tracks and went over to it. This didn't go unnoticed by Zhongli and he just stood there and observe.

She hovered her hand over where the ruin guard's core was.

'So that's where I've seen it before, it looks like a ruin guard's core. But a bit different.' Zhongli thought to himself, remembering the object he saw when he had the encounter with the stranger.

"(Y/n)." a feminine voice came out of nowhere.

"Hm?"

"That's my name, (Y/n)," The woman turned away from the ruin guard and faced Zhongli.

"Sorry, I wasn't able to speak before because it wasn't me," she carried on.

"Wasn't you?" this was getting interesting.

"Yes, it takes time for the core to overwrite the code. Who you interacted with before, was just the body following a rule 'Under no circumstances should the core immediately take control of this body once it's been inserted.' As for the reason, is to prevent the core in control to say or do anything impulsive."

The wonders of technologies were fascinating. He has done a bit of engineering before, but that was to mainly fix another god's contraption.

Zhongli nodded his head, gesturing for her to continue.

"Now that the core has slightly adjusted to this body, it should be more like 'me' but not completely. The things that I was able to do when I was human were taken away from me years and years ago..."

"It's alright, sweetheart. It'll only hurt a little... I promise."

The man had a knife in hand and he walked towards the (c/h) haired woman at a menacing pace.

"Please father...I don't want this." the woman choked out a sob.

"It's for your own good, (Y/n). This is the only way for you to live longer...Khaenri'ah is about to get destroyed and I have no other choice."

"Father, p-please, there has to be another way-"

Before she could finish her sentence, a sharp object pierce through her flesh, the stinging pain spread through her body quickly. The pain was too much to bear, blood soaked through the fabric and it dripped onto the floor.

"It's okay, darling. The pain will end eventually. At the cost of being immortal, it's all worth it."

(Y/n) wanted to fight back but she couldn't. not when it was getting hard to breathe, energy was slowly draining from her body.

The man took out a chaos core that's been modified to store someone's consciousness in there. A bright light glowed in the process and (Y/n)'s consciousness was now inside of the core.

Leaving a body that was once full of life, was now nothing but an empty husk on the floor.

With a crazed look in his eyes, he went over to the operating table, on it was an automaton that had the same look as his daughter. He placed the last piece of component into the automaton's chest.

He watched in adoration as the machine opened its eyes.

"Ahh haha... look at you sweetie, you're so beautiful..."

Sadness was visible in Zhongli's eyes.

'At the cost of being immortal...'

What good was being immortal, why was it considered as something good and powerful in the eyes of humans? What good was being immortal, if it brings nothing but loneliness? Zhongli was an immortal himself. He has experienced great loss, he could never understand why would humans do such horrid things, in exchange to live a life so long.

The pain the woman has endured, no doubt it must've felt horrible.

"I'm... sorry to hear that," Zhongli muttered as he empathized with her.

"It's alright, it's been hundreds of years and I can't feel anything, not anymore. So it doesn't bother me."

"You can't feel anything?"

"Correct, for I am now a machine."

To roam the lands without any emotions? That's new, how does one with no feelings, 'feel'?

Zhongli has experienced a lot of things, but this, this was something new. And as silly as it sounds, he was thrilled to learn more about the automaton.

As time goes on, Zhongli has grown pretty fond of her. He was embarrassed to admit it, but he liked it. He's been treating her like she's an antique, which she technically was one. He's been giving her compliments, taking her to places to venture...

He knew she was a machine, as she said it. But he would like to believe there was part of her in there that felt the same. Silently hoping that his feelings were mutual.

He felt his heart fluttered in a way he has never felt before, and it felt nice.

As for (Y/n), she didn't feel anything different, other than her core doing something weird. She figured that the core was still trying to adjust to this body, nothing out of the ordinary. She noticed it only acted like that when Zhongli was around.

'Probably nothing serious.' she thought to herself, as she watched Zhongli sipping on his tea with her core doing what felt like loops.

"Ah, I remembered something." Zhongli put his cup of tea down and continued on with his words.

"There is a place that I wanted to show you, it's not too far from here. Would you like to go?" he questioned.

(Y/n) was confused as to why he asked her, she was a machine that has no opinions on anything. He could literally do anything without having to ask her.

She nodded her head anyways.

"Great, let's go now." Zhongli felt the corner of his lips lifting up.

'How childish of me.'

Halfway through their trip to the mountains, (Y/n)'s legs stopped moving all of the sudden.

"(Y/n)?" Zhongli also stopped shortly after she did.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Of course. You can ask me anything."

"Why are you treating me as if I was still a human? I am a machine, no longer a sentience being. It doesn't make any sense, my core has been acting weird lately, and it only happens when you're around."

'What is this feeling? Why does my body feel heavy all of the sudden?' she thought to herself.

"I don't understand... I don't understand humans, even if I was once a human too... but it's been so long. I've forgotten what that feels like and it hurts. I don't want to be like this. It hurts..." something warm fell down from her eyes, but she was too caught up in her thinking to notice.

Without any hesitation, Zhongli wrapped his arms around her.

Having been a being with emotions for all his life, and being empathetic was something he's good at. For once, he has no idea how (Y/n) was, well, ironically 'feeling'. The only comfort he could bring was to hug them. Hoping that his warm embrace was good enough for now.

"I wish I'm able to feel again..." (Y/n) whispered against his chest.

"You can."

"What do you mean? I don't-"

"If you can't, then how come it feels like it hurts for you, hm?"

From the silence, Zhongli knew that she was thinking and he continued.

"It's okay. Although it might be confusing now, it'll all makes sense for I'll be there to teach you, to explain it to you as best as I can."

"But... don't I need a heart to do that?"

"You already have one, my dear,"

Zhongli leaned back and placed his hand on her chest.

"It's been here all along."

They sat on a hill and watched the sun slowly disappearing, greeting the moon as it slowly went up.

The temperature dropped today and Zhongli had his gloves off, his muscles were getting sore and he wanted to let them take a breather. Even as a strong being, he still shivers under the cold.

Seeing this, (Y/n) reached out and held his hand, he was a bit startled by the sudden contact with the coldness of the metal. "Oh dear, your hands feel so cold."

"Oh, they are? Sorry, I noticed you shivered a bit and I just wanted to warm you up."

She slowly retreated her hands but Zhognli stopped her "No no, please keep holding mine, even if your hands are cold. They also feel oddly... warm at the same time."

"Huh? How is that possible?"

"Well," he paused for a bit and placed his other hand on her cheek.

"You're already learning, darling. You started to care for someone and that's called consideration. The thought of you caring about me,"

He whispered as he slowly leaned in.

"Is what makes me feel warm inside." And with that, he pressed a loving kiss on her forehead. Smiling softly to himself.

He is now no longer alone.

Lumine awoke with the feeling of the sun’s rays on her skin. She rubbed her eyes and the world around her fell into focus. There was a cold breeze coming through the window; so cold that it was practically urging Lumine to get up and draw the curtains. Snezhnaya has so much colder weather than any other land I’ve visited. She thought to herself as she turned away from the window.

Next to her lay Childe. Topless. Nothing but his battle scars were visible. Lumine moved closer towards him, shifting the blanket in his direction. In the past when she asked about his scars, he always said that they were not simple “cuts and bruises,” but medals of honor.

So stupid, she thought as she chuckled at herself.

She found herself gently tracing Childe’s scars with her finger. The largest one went diagonally across his back. It seemed like it had been inflicted by a blade. She noticed some fresh burn marks on the back of his upper arm. Lumine drew her hand towards the burn, and Childe winced and began turning towards her. Snatching her hand back and closing her eyes, she pretended to sleep. “Hey girlie, what are you doing?” He said with a playful laugh. Slowly opening her eyes, Lumine responded, “Nothing, I was sleeping.” “You know I was awake the whole time, right?” Lumine felt her face turn red and Childe laughed at her getting flustered. “Come here,” he said as he opened his arms. Lumine cuddled with him and found comfort in his warmth. They fell asleep, with gusts of wind pouring through the curtains.

"Hey," you said to xiao, who had a slight smile on his face, a rare sight.

he held out his hand and you accepted it, the warmth of his hand enveloping you immediately.

you were walking in silence, quietly basking in each other's company.

as the snow fell, your footsteps left prints in it.

you looked up to see snow falling softly, and you felt a squeeze on your hand.

xiao looked at you with soft loving eyes, his amber ones meeting yours.

slowly he pulls you in, and gently his gloved hands cup your face. you lean into him, and your lips meet.

everything seems to disappear except for you two and the snow. you savour the kiss, as snow falls quietly around you. and like it lasted for eternity, you pulled away. he looks at you with ever so much love in his eyes, and pulls you in for a hug.

you relax into his body, breathing as white smoke came out of your mouth.

you two stayed there for a minute, just enjoying each other's touch.

"let's get going." he finally says. "hu tao made pancakes back at the inn."

he saw a faint glimmer of excitement in your eyes as you nodded. he knew you loved pancakes.

on the train, you couldn't help letting your eyelids fall after a long day. your head fell onto his shoulder, and he put his head on yours.

he stayed awake, though, to ensure you don't miss your stop.

Childe stumbled through the door of Wangshu Inn, unable to hold his balance. “Childe!” Lumine yelled, dropping the plate of hash browns onto the floor.

She ran to his side and held him up by his arm, noticing the deep wound and the blood seeping through his sleeve. His face was scratched and blood dripped from the side.

“What the hell happened?”

Lumine led him towards the bed and turned away to get medical supplies. “Why are you so reckless?” She scolded.

“Calm down girlie, it’s nothing I haven’t seen before,” Childe chuckled as he held onto the cut on his abdomen, trying to slow down the bleeding.

When she returned, he was shirtless, and all of his scars were visible. She couldn’t help but marvel at his body for a second, before snapping back into reality.

“You need to start being more careful! Next time, bring me with you.” Lumine’s eyes watered. She avoided meeting his eyes as she didn’t want Childe to see her cry. She rolled up his sleeve and began bandaging his arm.

“Lumine, you don’t need to do this. I can take care of myself.” “Shut the hell up, you have never come back with wounds this bad,”

Childe grabbed her hand, stopping her from tying the bandage. “Let go of me.” Lumine said with a scowl.

Their eyes met, and Childe noticed the small droplets forming at her eyes. “Alright.” He said as he released her hand and allowed her to tend to his wounds.

Once Lumine tied the bandage on his arm, she got a damp cloth and applied pressure on the wounds that coated Childe’s face.

“So, why don’t you just admit it?” Childe winced in pain, “You’re in love with me.”

Lumine froze and pulled the cloth away from his face. “E-excuse me? You’re saying things like that at a time like this?” She stuttered. She felt her face burning like a pyro slime.

“So? You’re admitting it?” As embarrassment clouded her mind, she yelled, “Okay, fine, you tend to your own wounds! Don’t come crying to me for help.” Childe grabbed her hand as soon as she released it from his arm. He pulled her closer to his face, until they were mere inches apart.

“I know you don’t want to leave me,” he whispered. “Damn you.” Lumine replied.

And with that, they locked lips, as the world around them dissolved into nothingness.
