Get to know you better tag game

Last song I listened to: Frank Zappa's "Dirty Love." Some trivia was going around among my co-workers the other day and one of the questions was identifying the musician who said a particular quote, and one of the older guys thought I was too young to know it. Lol sir I may be a millennial but I am a millennial whose friends ask them to identify random oldies songs on the radio because It Is Known that I'm into a bunch of obscure shit, and you think I won't know who Frank fuckin Zappa is?? The funny thing is I had never actually heard the particular quote before, it just had his vibes so it was a good guess. But it was making me realize there's a good bit of Zappa I'd never really listened to. So!
Currently watching: In terms of fannish stuff, I'm sort of halfway through a Tour of Duty rewatch? Also waiting for moar Sandman and moar Iwtv, and living in blissful ignorance of whatever tf marvel is doing these days. More generally, the other day I found out that a few years back there was a show based on popular creepypastas, and I am a sucker for creepypastas. So I'm sort of watching that. (Also very curious how the IP issues were dealt with in a genre that so commonly has anonymous and communal authorship lol.)
Currently obsessed with: At Wondercon last weekend I impulse-bought a clear green acrylic contact juggling ball, because wouldn't that look cool for a Loki cosplayer to do? I do not yet rly know how to contact juggle, and it will be a loooong time before I can even think of doing a Jareth cosplay on the strength of those skills, but the damn thing is super fun to play with regardless. I'll just be over here, pondering my orb.
Tagging: @hechizero-emplumado, @actuallyvady, @pyrebomb, @philosopherking1887, @your-dark-thor, @neph-le-geek, aaaand oh anyone else who feels like doing the meme can say I tagged you :)

For the ask game--GrimmIchi, UraTess, aaaaand if I can ask if you have a favorite ship with Zaraki? I've seen a couple things (in general, not on your blog specifically) with Zaraki and Hanataro and I'm not gonna lie, I'm intrigued
Hi friend! Thank you for the ask (based on this post)! I'm eager to answer :D I'm very versatile in Bleach ships, there's not many that I would say "no" to, honestly!
Grimmichi (Grimmjow/Ichigo)- I hardcore ship it! (of course, hehehe)
What made you ship it? Literally any and every time they look at each other. You can *taste* the UST in the air, ahahahaha. Also the way in which Grimmjow is obsessed with beating Ichigo in a fight. Like, sir, your gay is showing...lol
What are your favorite things about the ship? To quote one of my favourite 50% off Goh moments: "They hate each other, but they also *insert dolphin noise* each other!" I just really love the enemies to lovers aspect. And they have but One Brain Cell between the two of them. Sometimes Grimmjow lets Ichigo borrow it. (my opinion; between the two Ichigo is the more dense one)
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? Hmm, well I don't know if it's really unpopular, but as I just mentioned above, I think Ichigo can be the dumb one more often than Grimmjow. I see Grimmjow often portrayed as a bit dense and dumb, and sure I get it, and I also write it. I do think he would be stumped by human-world things and all, seeing as he is an amalgamation of souls that don't remember their human lives, and is from Hueco Mundo. But, he is still pretty intelligent. He used Orihime to draw Ichigo out for a fight. He knew better than to fight Orihime herself. He has his dumb moments, but he is a bit cat-like in his cunning and caution. I think he can catch onto things quickly. On the other hand, we have Ichigo "I'm gonna chop the Menos Grande piece by piece until it's head hits the ground and I can reach it" Kurosaki.
UraTess (Urahara/Tessai)- Yes, I ship it
What made you ship it? They live together and raise two children. What's not to ship?
What are your favorite things about the ship? I think they have a good mutual respect for each other and each other's strengths. This is one of my quieter ships in my mind, so I don't have as many burning thoughts about it, but I really just feel they're so domestic together. Makes me happy.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? I don't think so? I'm not sure. I don't really talk about this ship as much, and I don't see it talked about as much...
Zaraki/Hanataro (using your example because YES) - yeah, I ship it. not as hard as I ship other ones, but I think this one is super cute!
What made you ship it? Honestly, I can be a sucker for Rough and Tough x Soft yet Determined to Help Others as a dynamic, and these two definitely have that going on. I really love Hanataro as a character and I think he's really underrated. And, I love Zaraki! So! Much! (and if I'm projecting a little by shipping him with a health care professional type? Sue me lol)
What are your favorite things about the ship? SIZE DIFFERENCE SIZE DIFFERENCE SIZE DIFFERENCE SIZE DIFFERENCE SIZE DIFFERENCE SIZE DIFFERENCE!!!!!!! Also, the idea that Hanataro is teased by Team 11, but if anyone threatens him he now suddenly has a badass boyfriend and an entire team of badass protectors ready to fight for him... And I like to think all of Team 11 kind of starts to quietly respect his abilities for healing and recognizes it as a different kind of strength!
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? I am not sure! I don't really search enough on this ship to know what is and is not popular...it more just lives in my head :)

I'm a sucker for forbidden love (again, shocker, right?) but this time let's go with friends to lovers. Gimme all the fluff!
And my chosen au is the au that's not actually an au because we all know the Durins survived, aka everybody lives au!
Why hello there, stranger! 💙 Did you really think I'd forget about your ask? Not a chance!

Dream Come True
Smaug was dead and Erebor was being restored. Leaving Ered Luin and moving to your homeland was like stepping into a fairy tale. You were born in exile, but your grandmother told you many amazing tales about the true home of your clan. When the time came and Thorin Oakenshield reclaimed the Lonely Mountain, you and your family joined a caravan and headed east.
When you arrived in Erebor, you instantly fell in love with the place. It was even better than your grandmother’s stories. Luckily, your family’s old home wasn’t overly damaged, so you started your new life fairly quickly after moving back in.
As a serious book-lover, you had one dream: to become a librarian. Since your grandmother used to be one of the librarians under the Mountain back in her day, she had taught you all you needed to know to become one. She was too old to return to her former work, but her recommendation along with your earlier work experience in a cosy little bookshop in the Blue Mountains made it possible for you to work at the Great Library of Erebor.
In the beginning, the job meant mostly cleaning up the mess Smaug left and trying to rescue the damaged books or at least copy their content before their frail parchment pages perished forever. You often stayed up late at night, trying to decipher faded runes on the yellowed pages of yet another ancient volume, but it was worth it. So what if half of the time you actually spent on reading books instead of mending or sorting them? You had always made sure to finish the most urgent tasks before treating yourself to another chapter of “Brok The Barbarian” or “The Wuthering Red Mountains” or “The Haunted Manor of Mirkwood”. Well, almost. Sometimes Mistress Gudrun, the head librarian, would find you surrounded by a heap of books you had been sorting all morning with one of them in your lap as you devoured its contents. It was completely not your fault. That book simply happened to open of its own accord—by accident—on a very interesting page. Mistress Gudrun would shake her head with a chuckle and then leave you be. She knew you were one of the most passionate of her apprentices, even if rather easily distracted. But some things could not be helped. Besides, you reminded her of her younger self a little bit.
One night you were still at the library, finishing the task of cataloguing the “Art of War” section when you heard a suspicious noise. A sound of a door being unlocked and opened. And it was not just any door – it was the side door that was only used by the staff to enter and leave the library at any time through a conveniently placed tunnel. It even had a sign: “NO UNAUTHORISED PERSONNEL”.
Then you heard slow, heavy steps. They didn’t sound like any of your colleagues’ steps. What if it was a thief?! You grabbed the heaviest tome you could find and stalked towards that door. In the flickering light of the library lamps, you saw a shadow of a movement ahead of you. Without thinking, you gathered your courage and attacked the supposed burglar with the leather-bound tome. That would teach them not to steal!
The book hit something hard. You heard an “Oof!” and then your priceless weapon was torn out of your hands before you could react. You blinked and your mouth fell open at the large silhouette in front of you. In the faint light you saw none other than your king, the legendary Thorin II Oakenshield. You recognized him, of course, you’d seen him in the Blue Mountains many times before, but never from such a close distance. He stood there, tall and proud, with his dark locks majestically flowing down his shoulders… and massaged his arm with a frown on his face. “Do you assault all the visitors who come here to read?” he uttered an irritated growl.
You swallowed. You had just attacked your king. You hoped that the infamous dungeons of Erebor weren’t as full of hungry giant cave rats as the rumours said. After muttering apologies to your king, you explained the situation and, to your surprise, heard his explanation in turn. He was in need of some light reading after a long day and this entrance to the library was the closest one to the royal chambers. And, of course, he had the key. He was the king of this mountain, after all!
It was your lucky day: he didn’t imprison you or hang for treason and instead you offered him a few books that would make good evening reads. He took them gladly, even “The Crucible”, one of your favourites, a lighthearted story about a Dwarf, an abysmal cook, who tried to make the perfect stew for his three beloved wives. Don’t judge, okay? Culinary novels are an important element of dwarven literature!
This was how your friendship started. Yours and the king’s, not yours and that stew’s of course. Thorin and you bonded over the written word and he became a frequent late evening visitor in the library. Since then, you spent many hours – or even whole nights – discussing the stories you had both read or criticising the authors who wrote too much angst and not enough fluff. And sometimes, you would simply talk about anything and everything.
Thorin appreciated these visits more than you knew. Even if he spent a tiring day with his advisors, he knew that he’d find you in the library in the evening. With you, he could forget about his duties for a short while and enjoy both your quick wit and your charming smile. You helped him rekindle his old love for books, something he hadn’t had the chance to enjoy much when Erebor was lost. But now it was different. He reclaimed his kingdom, his people were safe, and he was finally able to find some time for leisure. So he spent it with someone he learned to appreciate and admire. You. The person with whom he could be himself. Someone who wasn’t an advisor, nor a sparring partner, nor a courtier. Someone who didn’t want to get into his good graces just because he was a king; who didn’t expect favours nor special treatment. Someone he had been thinking of as his close friend for a while now.
One day Dis approached her brother and discreetly let him know that there were rumours of him having a dalliance with a mysterious lover. Apparently, someone saw Thorin sneaking out of the royal wing late at night; someone else saw him returning shortly before dawn, and several nobles commented on the shadows under his eyes when he arrived at the morning council meetings. Some even wondered whether Thorin acted dishonourably, having trysts with an unsuspecting young lady, but not courting her openly. Or worse – what if he seduced multiple innocent maidens under everyone’s nose?! Was that conduct worthy of a king?! “Preposterous!” Thorin exclaimed. In anger, he told Dis what he had been doing and whom he was meeting. She replied, “I suspected as much. I can see that she makes you happy and it fills my heart with warmth. Have you told her of your feelings yet?”
Thorin had no idea what his sister meant. You were his good friend, nothing more! But then Dis told him that he should stop acting like an empty-headed mountain troll. She reminded him that she was not blind and spoke about all the little glances he cast at you when he thought no one was looking. Or about that meeting at the marketplace the other day when you both stood in the middle of a crowd together, oblivious of your surroundings, passionately discussing the ending of a book you had both recently finished. Oh, and the fact that he would rather spend nights in the library than sleep in his own, comfortable bed spoke volumes, too. And what about that tiny issue of him rejecting every single suggestion of marriage she or Balin proposed?
Thorin started seriously thinking about what Dis said. Was it possible that something more than friendship blossomed between you? He recalled the way you smiled at him whenever he appeared in  the library. He remembered the reluctance with which he said “good night” to you every time he had to leave. And each time he did, he saw some mysterious emotion twinkling in your bright eyes. The eyes that made him think of precious gems. And then, there was that warmth he felt deep inside. And that tingling sensation whenever your hands accidentally met.
He needed to think.
***
It had been over a week since you saw Thorin last and you started to worry. It was unlike him to disappear this way without telling you in advance that he would be busy with matters of state or that he had to leave for a diplomatic visit somewhere. As far as you knew, he was still in Erebor.
Around that time you noticed that whenever you passed through the library, people would stare at you and whisper. The elderly Master Wurf, the biggest local gossip and the chief of the fine arts section, tsk-tsked at you and told you he expected more of you.
When you asked him what he meant, he simply replied, “Do not feign innocence, young lady, it does not suit you. Have you no shame?” Did it have anything to do with the fact that he stumbled upon you and Thorin late at night in one of the secluded areas of the library a few days before? Master Wurf refused to say anything more. In fact, he started openly avoiding you, and he was not the only one. Even your friends began treating you in a very weird way, suddenly interrupting their conversations whenever you appeared or making themselves scarce. One of them even had the audacity to ask whether you could fix them with a permanent position as a royal clerk since you had “access” to the king. He winked and chuckled when he said it, but you found nothing funny about this. Things turned even less amusing when the amount of crude remarks towards you multiplied and you even received several very improper proposals. And then one day you heard your nosy neighbour speak to her husband, “Look, that harlot is coming! I wonder how much the king pays her for…”
“Stop wagging your tongue, woman, and give me my dinner!” her spouse bellowed.
“Woman?! Woman?! After 157 years of marriage you have forgotten my name, you smelly boar?! I’ll teach you…”
The familiar sounds of their customary weekly fistfight ensued followed by their passionate exclamations of love that usually came after, but you did not hear it. You ran home, teary-eyed, and locked yourself in your room. “The king’s harlot”. Those words stung more than they should. But what hurt even more was that Thorin stopped seeing you so abruptly. In these circumstances, you  came to a conclusion: he did not want to see you again. His reputation as a king was worth more to him than your quiet friendship. He did not even have the decency to speak with you in person. Perhaps you were not as close as you had thought you were. Those late night conversations, fiery discussions, private jokes you shared… all of it was gone now. You were left only with memories of those moments, of his cerulean eyes, and of that low, velvety voice speaking your name.
Now, your reputation was ruined. You could wave any hopes of finding a spouse goodbye. No one seemed to believe you, and it was probably a matter of time until Mistress Gudrun would dismiss you from the library for indecent conduct, even if it was just based on some gossip.
As you wallowed in self-pity, there was a knock on the door and before you could say “enter”, your grandmother barged into your room.
“My dear girl, are you sleeping with the king?” she asked in her charmingly blunt way, staring you straight in the eye.
“Of course not, granny!” you exclaimed. That one time when you and Thorin both dozed off late at night in the library and your head happened to rest on his very comfortable shoulder surely didn’t count! You still remembered the moment when you both woke up, staring sleepily into each other’s eyes, his lips barely inches from yours. No, that dot not count even a bit!
“What a shame,” she sighed and sat next to you with a grunt. “So all those things I hear are only unsubstantiated rumours?” “I’m afraid so,” you reached for your handkerchief in an attempt to dry your cheeks.
“And here I was thinking that at least you had some fun!” “Grandma, he is the king!” you gasped. “Oh yes, he is, and he is quite a handsome one, is he not?” she grinned.
“Come on, granny! Thorin and I are just friends! He sometimes visits the library, nothing more!”
“Are you well, my dear? Your cheeks are red. You are not blushing, are you?” “Of course I am not blushing! It is the heat, I must have put too many logs into the fireplace, that is all,” you tried your best bluff.
“If you say so, dear,” your grandma nodded, patting your hand. “Then I guess there must be some misunderstanding with that royal messenger at our door…” “What? What? What? What are you talking about, granny?” you almost jumped up.
“A nice young fellow has just arrived with a dinner invitation for you from king Thorin,” she smiled sweetly at you. And when your grandma smiled sweetly, that was an equivalent of a shark baring his teeth.
“Tell him I’m not unavailable! I’m sick! I’ve gone to visit our relatives in the White Mountains!” you panicked.
“Truly, child? Is that the best you can do? All my teachings for nothing…” she hung her head theatrically. Our last relatives in the White Mountains moved away from there over 200 years ago during the last Orc War. Do you want the king to think that you are related to an Orc?”
“No! Granny! Oh no! I just… I don’t want to see him! Because of those horrible rumours, he’ll probably tell me that… this is the end of our… our friendship,” you sobbed while your heart raced like crazy in your chest. “I can’t… I can’t face him. Not now. I just want to be left alone until it all blows over.” “Very well, my child,” your grandma gave you a reassuring hug. “If that is what you want, I will make it happen.”
***
You spent several peaceful days at home, taking a sick leave. Even your granny agreed that you deserved some rest. Secretly, you hoped that the rumours would soon die down and everyone would once again leave you alone. It felt strange to spend the evenings at home with your family instead of copying the old parchments and waiting for the familiar squeaking sound of the opening door, along with Thorin’s customary “Good evening”. Oh, how you longed to hear his voice once again, to sit with him and simply enjoy his presence…
Instead, two more dinner invitations came, each of them written with golden letters on the best parchment you have ever seen, but you refused them both. Those were the formal invitations from the king, not your friend Thorin, and they did not bode well.
After that, a mysterious package arrived to you with no return address. Inside, there was a rare edition of a book you have always wanted to own. There was a fresh rose sticking out from between the covers and when you opened the book at that page, you saw a note. It contained a very short and very clumsily composed poem about your eyes being compared to gems. You recognized the elegant handwriting at once. And the rune “T” at the bottom of the page.
It was not possible. It had to be a mistake. Thorin never really liked poetry. And what about that beautiful flower? And the precious book?
“Are my old eyes failing me or is this a threefold gift?” your grandma asked, putting her book away.
“Granny, we both know you have eyes like a hawk! Wait… a threefold gift?” you forgot to breathe. The rose. The poem. The book. Three pieces. Exactly like the tradition said. Oh, shoot.
“What will you send him in return?” your grandma’s tone was alarmingly casual. “You can’t keep a courting gift waiting for too long, you know…”
“That’s… I don’t plan to send him anything,” you put the beautiful gift box aside, not wanting to look at it any longer.
“Do you know when was the last time Thorin Oakenshield sent his last courting gift?” you heard your granny’s soft voice.
“I don’t,” you admitted, your throat tightening.
“The answer is: never. The whole kingdom assumed he was devoted to his craft and therefore uninterested in marriage. It seems that we all were wrong and he found someone special after all,” she mused.
“You don’t understand, granny. Thorin is an honourable dwarf. He knows about that gossip and he realises how damaging it is to my reputation so he is trying to do what he feels is right out of his sense of duty. Plus, I’d make a very bad queen…”
Your grandmother just shook her head and, to your surprise, said nothing, leaving you with your dark thoughts.
***
The next courting gift from Thorin came a week later. Another exciting book, another clumsy but sweet poem, and another flower (a daisy, as pink as your lips, as the new poem claimed). Your grandma simply looked at you from behind her half-moon spectacles but, again, did not say a word.
You put the gifts into your wardrobe with an attempt to forget about them. As tradition said, if you were not interested in the courtship, the only thing you had to do was simply not to respond to these gifts and leave them be. And that was exactly what you did. After reading the books, of course. The courting traditions did not say anything about not being allowed to reading them. That was what books were for, weren’t they?
The problem was, the third gift came a week later, another one a week after that, and then they just kept on coming. Your free wardrobe space was shrinking rapidly. Meanwhile, your granny and the royal messenger became fast friends and she even began baking her delicious cinnamon buns every Friday — because that was the day he would come with another courting gift from Thorin. At the same time, you absolutely did not feel any anticipation every Friday morning. You were not interested in empty gifts sent to you out of misplaced pity. Not at all. And yet, you still missed Thorin, your dear… friend.
***
Almost  two months passed and everyone seemed to have forgotten about your alleged scandalous affair with the king — or perhaps they had simply become bored with it. The gossip mill of Erebor was now busy with another topic: the royal jeweller’s wife gave birth to twins and the rumour had it that each of the babes was supposed to have a different father. When your grandmother heard it for the first time, she laughed to tears together with the royal messenger who, along with that piece of gossip, brought you another courting gift. A brand new, illustrated copy of your favourite “The Crucible”, a touching poem with loneliness as a main theme, and a simple forget-me-not flower. Now you too had tears in your eyes.
One day you stayed at the library longer than usual, determined to finish making the inventory of the newest books that arrived from the Blue Mountains. You were so focused on the task that you hadn’t heard the characteristic squeaking sound of a particular door being opened.
“Good evening,” the rumbly, familiar voice broke the silence that surrounded you. And then you heard your own name spoken in that very special way you secretly adored.
“Thorin?” you almost jumped in surprise. He stood before you, just as he did that first time you had met here, wearing a simple dark blue tunic that emphasised his strapping figure of a warrior, his hair slightly ruffled, his temple free from the Raven Crown of Erebor, but this time there was no frown on his face. Instead, a slight smile danced on his lips. Mahal, how you had missed seeing him. “I am glad to see you here again. May we talk?” His eyes searched your face and one look into them was enough to melt your resolve.
Your conversation started awkwardly at first. Thorin was convinced that he offended you somehow and wanted to know what he could do to make amends. He wished to understand why you refused to see him and avoided him for so long. Brimming with strong emotions, in a trembling voice you spoke of your disappointment and all the misery the rumours had caused you. “... and when you stopped coming to the library, I thought I lost a… friend,” you finally admitted quietly, stifling a sob.
“You have never lost me. I needed to reflect on some matters in solitude, but now I know that I have failed you. I believed those rumours would harmlessly disappear. For that I am asking for your forgiveness and if it will be granted to me, I still would like to continue being your… friend, if I cannot be anything else.”
While listening to his words, you looked at your hands that somehow found themselves in his large, warm palms of a blacksmith. You discovered that you liked the feeling and the sensations that came with it. You did not want him to let go of you even if you probably should.
“And what else would you like to be?” you asked, unable to ignore the effect his closeness had on you. These were the same hands that gently picked the flowers, carefully chose the books and wrote those awkward poems for you every single week while you were apart. And the regal features of his face were now softened by a hopeful smile that reached all the way to his eyes.
“Do you remember that old parchment we once read together? The one that said: ‘Life is but a book and every day – merely a page’?” Thorin squeezed your hands gently.
“I do, but what does it have to do with you and me?”
“I would like to reopen that book with you. But not where we left off. Let us skip to the good part. Let us write new pages for as long as we live. Together. What do you say?”
“Together,” your voice wavered, “as… friends?”
Thorin’s hands moved to your arms, shoulders, then to your neck, and then cupped your face, making your breath hitch. His face was so close to yours now, your nose brushed against his. You could even feel the warmth of his breath and the softness of his hair against your cheek. As you took a deep breath, your lungs filled with that unmistakable scent of pine needles, leather, and ink. So unmistakably, reassuringly Thorin.
“No, not at all as friends,” he murmured, gently pressing his forehead against yours, and then added one little world that turned your world upside down, “Amrâlimê.”
“Do you mean it?” your eyes widened. “Truly?”
Without a word, Thorin took out a little wooden box out of his pocket. There were his and your runes carved in its cover. When he handed it to you,  you took it from him and opened it. Inside, you saw an elegant mithril braid bead and a beautiful matching ring adorned with diamonds – symbols of eternal love. No Dwarf would offer such breathtaking gifts simply out of duty.
You wanted to pinch yourself when Thorin took one of your hands and placed it over his heart.
“Truly. I do not wish to only be your friend. Not any longer. I want to share my life with you, if you will have me.”
Your vocal cords refused to cooperate. All you could do was nod and wrap your arms around him, tucking your head under his bearded chin.
“Is that a ‘yes’, Amrâlimê?” Thorin whispered softly while the gentleness of his arms encircled you.
“Oh, Thorin. I didn’t dare to dream that this day would ever come. Yes.”
He took your hand into his a placed a careful kiss on the back of your palm. And then he slipped on your finger the ring he had made with his own hands during that time you were apart. When you met his gaze, the eternal diamonds shone in his eyes.
On that day you learned that some dreams do come true, after all.

@elliemarchettiI tag! thank you!!!
🍓 How did you get into writing fanfiction? Honestly, that's a great question, but I have absolutely no recollection of how. I know I only get into fandomy stuff when I was about 17 or 18. I've always liked languages and writing, and wrote my tiny stories for myself since I was a teenager, but then they were not fic. I have no idea what fic I read that actually inspired me to start writing.
🍇How many fandoms have you written in?
It actually isn't many, only about four.
🍈 How many years have you been writing fanfiction?
Well, I wrote fic for about 5 years from 18 to 23, then I had a looooooong break and started writing again at the end of last year. It's been slow getting back into it, but ... doing my best.
🍎 Do you read or write more fanfiction?
Definitely read more. I have many ideas, but I've always had a love hate relationship with writing, and I'm a much slower writer than a reader.
🍌 What is one way you've improved as a writer?
Definitely language skills. I'm not a native speaker and writing helped me a lot with stylistics and just generally finding my voice. I learned sometimes less is more. Also indirectly helped me with my job where I now can give a pretty good guidance on how to write essays and stories (am a teacher).
🍑 Do you have any bad habits as a writer?
LENGTH! Though this is funnily something that only shows when I'm roleplaying. I write too much! It's not always a bad thing, but I'd like to write more concisely.
🍍 What's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
I might be a boring writer and I don't really remember me writing anything that required a lot of research. I, however, am obsessed with time in my writing and I go to great lengths to be accurate when writing about past and time in the past. So I did research times of sunrise and sunset in certain years, so I could be accurate when writing a scene and the timing of it.
🍉What's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?
Any comments are love, but I love those that engage with you as a writer. Where people give me their theories, or ideas, or where they quote parts they loved the most in my fics.
🍐What's the most fringe trope/topic you write about?
I'm a sucker for slice of life and I don't think I've ever written anything that could be considered a fringe topic.
🥭What is the hardest type of story for you to write?
A story. Period. I think I would be bad at things that are not slice of life. Obviously in Harry Potter we have all the magic and I don't count that, that's more of a setting, but I do love AUs and I still can't imagine writing an AU that's very removed from real life, like for example fantasy or sci-fi. Also writing smut is really hard (I'm willing to push through for this one haha).
🍏What is the easiest type?
None? Writing is torture. I love it thought.
🍑Where do you do your writing? What platform? When?
I usually write at home, though sometimes ideas strike on public transport, so that's where I take notes a lot. I use mostly my computer. And I'm the most productive at night when I should be sleeping.
🍋What is something you've been too nervous/ intimidated to write, but would love to write one day?
In Marauders' fandom, I'm actually intimidated by canon / magical world. I've read the books countless times, but it's been a while since and even though I'm slowly getting back to it, I feel like I need to reread to make sure I'm getting things right. I'd love to write lie low at Lupin's and lost years. And then holy grail would be to write a magical canon-divergence.
🍇What made you choose your username?
I've had many usernames over the years, but the one I'm using currently is a homage to T-Rex's Diamond Meadows. It's a song I've always loved and then it made it's way to my Marlene playlist (who was the first character i picked to roleplay when I get into Marauders' rp) and it became her song in my head. And then it became my username on AO3 (and here minus S).
This has been fun, realised I really don't remember how I got into being involved in the fandom at all, but god, I'm glad I did and I'm glad I'm back after all these years. Tagging anyone who would like to try doing this plus @swoopswrites @moonwalker94 @lemndrps @lovelymasks

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
To quote or paraphrase Andy Farrant (I watched the stream a few days ago, the wording's not in my head) "It was better than it had any right to be."
Tumblr media
This was such a fun movie, though. It was silly popcorn fun with legitimate heart, which is exactly what action adventure movies should be.
I loved the overarching narrative and the way it showed a legitimate found family long before it verbally addressed it. I loved the relationship between Holga, Edgin, and Kira, and that beautiful repeated phrase "I'm gonna bring back your mom".
As someone who loves the idea of DnD but has never had much success with it (I think it's very telling that my favourite DnD stream is Oxventure and I couldn't sit through more than ten episodes of Critical Role), it was so curious how they played this. They didn't (although they very easily could have) show you the rolls, but you could definitely feel them sometimes. I'm not just talking about the Nat20s and NatOnes, but like Simon's player in general is a very good player with such cursed dice. He failed so many saves and had to adjust around them.
I actually wonder how someone who has never played the game would react to some of them, actually. Like, there's a point where Simon gets his foot caught in some cobblestones. To a DnD player, what happened is that it's clearly a failed stealth check followed by several failed saves from everyone to free him. But I wonder if to a non-player whether that seemed like a bit of an arbitrary complication to the story for DRAMA.
But there are, I should point out, very few points where I actually noticed those points that would likely end up as a divide. Mostly, I think, the movie was incredibly accessible.
Like, even painfully DnD tropes. Everyone points out that Xenk is either a DMPC or a player who barely ever gets to play and so is always overpowered so they can be a fun addition. But the actual painfully DnD trope about him is that he's just SO Lawful Good. So lawful that he can only walk in straight lines. But rather than it being specifically a DnD joke, he's a parody of The Perfect Hero. Everyone knows that trope. Everyone can follow that trope.
So the only problem I have with it from an adaption perspective is how twisted and messy the story felt. As a DnD player, it was fine - the players were scrambling to find solutions to a problem and were going on multiple quests to figure out what they would do. But I can definitely see how an outsider might find it all... incohesive.
They're gathering party members > oh, that wasn't good enough.
They're going to search for a helmet > oh, that isn't available.
They're going in search of a hero > oh, he's going to give them a different quest for the helmet.
They've got the helmet but more importantly they have this hero > oh, he's leaving, okay.
They've got the helmet > oh, that won't work.
They're doing a heist > oh, that's not going to work either...
Like, I get it. I FELT it. But I can also see how an outsider might react to it in the same way I originally felt watching The Dark Knight. After a point, plot twists get tedious. And some of these plot threads could have been entire stories on their own rather than quick asides. Everything was a little too shallow in order to fit a lot of story into a twisted adventure.
But that said, I enjoyed it. And I loved the complications in this a lot more than I do in heist movies where it all turns out that it actually went exactly as the grandmaster thief intended all along.
And more than anything, I loved the main arc. I am always a sucker for Found Family, but this was beautiful.
From the very start, the film goes out of its way to SHOW us that Holga and Kira are an unconventional but very real mother and daughter. Holga has a closer relationship with Kira than Edgin does. BUT the story is told from Edgin's perspective, so it repeatedly TELLS us that Holga is Edgin's partner, Kira is Edgin's daughter, and the quest is to bring back Edgin's dead wife so she can be a mother to Kira.
I love that dichotomy SO MUCH. I adore it when stories not only use show and tell cohesively, but make the difference between them a POINT. It was amazing, and something that I think couldn't have been done nearly as well in a written medium, I'm so in awe of how effortless it felt.
That one line was... mmph! Nice job, Mr Pine, nice job making that line hit your character so hard.
AND while I probably can't get into it without going on a whole essay about western ethics re: resurrection, there was something I really appreciated about how the film didn't linger over Edgin's wish and decisions about his wife. This was a DnD campaign. Resurrection is expensive and a pain, but it's a thing that happens, the only issue is Faerun lore about other planes, let's move on.
Last thing I'll talk about is the characters themselves. This was such good casting, and I love the characters and how they're embodied.
I love Holga's unapologetic dumb muscle and how much heart she had. (Side note, Bradley Cooper's cameo was wonderful and heartwrenching and that whole mini-arc is going to quietly stay in my heart for a long while)(Side-side note, I love Bradley Cooper so much more as a supporting character actor than a lead. He's SO GOOD at what he does but lead characters make his arcs overwrought)
I love Simon and Doric's blunt, awkward style and how you can tell they'll work well together but would be hopeless without Edgin's charm and energy to guide them.
I love Edgin, and I LOVE Edgin played by Chris Pine, who balances that charm and quiet desperation and arrogance into one perfect BARD. He was SUCH a BARD, even though he was missing the magic and lore (yeah... Simon fails saves, Edgin fails knowledge checks all. the. time. His dice hate the lore and it's absolutely a running joke at the table). His personality was just embodied Harper bard and it was perfect.
I love Hugh Grant's villain era because I actually find it a very natural evolution of his typecasting. But more than anything, I love that Forge isn't and never was actually evil. He's Neutral. He's selfish and willing to do either good or bad to achieve his goals. He didn't really want his friends to die, and you know, the overall outcome of the scheme was regrettable, but he would get away with money, love, and his life, so... -shrug- And Hugh Grant plays that so well. He's so dry and deadpan and you're never sure whether he's making fun of you or not, and it just works. So it's Nice. I like it. Nice.
But yeah! I could ramble about the things I loved for days, and there are certainly things I would have preferred, but this was actually a really good, really fun movie using DnD rules and tropes.
Good game, Paramount. Well done.

the latest chapter is giving me /feelings/ and I am loving it
[you, who was looking at her as if you were afraid to lose her] + ["you can stay"] Wednesday not only noticing how Birb is feeling, but allowing herself to appreciate her proximity? *chef's kiss* also the way Birb backed off quickly when Wednesday mentioned disliking touch, and you know it's 75% being considerate and 25% refusing to test boundaries because she's sure there has to be some limit, some condition for Wednesday's affection
["you certainly know how to pick 'em"] + ["don't I?" She said breathlessly] thank you Uncle Fester, for being chill enough that Weds is willing to be openly adorable
["and the only Addams I want haunting me is you"] + [I want you haunting me too] I am a sucker for haunting as a love language. no I will not elaborate.
[she was an Addams by marriage instead of blood, much like yo-] + the exchange between Gomez and Morticia = YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS cute as fuck
[Thing was on your shoulder with a pair of scissors] not gonna lie, my first thought was wondering how much Birb might be panicking because of Sharp Objects near her Wings. But I suppose her familiarity with Thing and the general vibe of the Addams family helped keep her mind off of past experiences
[your hand moved from her waist to the small of her back and you were looking at her. Only at her. Didn't you know others were watching?] Birb is a simp and we love her for it
Everything about Wednesday's confession is just mwah! perfect! mildly amused by the fact that her merely saying she feels Something is significant enough to excite Birb! but, like, understandable. Weds keeps her feelings to herself whenever possible, this is an adorable and dorky milestone for her
[after what she had just seen, your kindness and gentleness made no sense.-You weren't furious? Didn't you want to take it out on everybody until you felt better?] sometimes pain makes us kinder, because we cannot bear to see someone else go through what we did. and sometimes that kindness is fueled by the overwhelming desire to never be hurt again- we want to be useful, and pleasant, and worth every bit of space we take up. somebody hug birb
[*the entire kiss sequence*] crying, sobbing, grinning like an idiot because of these dorks, I love them so much asdfghjkl. also, like, good thing Weds went for that kiss, because otherwise it might've been hard to shrug off the whole Vision thing. the kiss just reset Birb's entire train (depot) of thought(s)
[in books and movies, everyone says the accidents happen in slow motion - There was nothing slow or poetic about the way you shook so violently she swore your feet lifted off the ground] this paragraph invokes such a clear image in my mind, I will be laughing about it for several days
11/10
-signed, your friendly neighborhood crow
You guys have GOT to quit quoting the story because I WILL blush
Birb is so hyperaware of other people's boundaries, and she's so terrified that if she even thinks of overstepping then that's it, that's the final straw. It's conditional, and things are going so well, she's not going to ruin it by pushing a boundary
Oh don't worry, Thing with scissors? Oh you know there was a panic attack in that closet. Familiarity or not, it still triggers that fight-or-flight. But that's where part of the dilemma comes in, she also refuses to let anyone know when she's freaking out, so that panic turns into a different emotion, in this case frustration and scolding Thing and Fester
Wednesday: I... feel Birb: !!!!!!!!!
Birb has seen firsthand what happens when someone lives being angry. She knows what it does to everyone, including the angry person. And we haven't seen it yet, but she is angry, she does sometimes want to make people hurt the way she does. But she knows. It's a very difficult conscious decision to be kind, if for nothing else than to not become her parents. She refuses to be like them, and if that means being kind, then goddammit she's going to be kind

I've been in the fandom for a few years now here on Tumblr, and I've had a few decently popular gallavich posts (when I remember that this app exists every few months haha), but I realized that I've never actually introduced myself on here. I saw this fun introduction post made by the amazing @callivich, so I thought I'd join in on the fun :)
Name: - Hannah
Age: - 22
What made you fall in love with Gallavich? - I feel like I started shameless completely blind to the ship. I started watching it because a bunch of my family members were watching it and talking about it during the covid quarantine time period, and I thought it seemed interesting, so I started watching it myself. I remember being shocked when they first hooked up, but never really having an opinion on Mickey until season three, and as you guys can probably tell by the username, I became obsessed haha. season 4 is when I really fell in love with the ship.
How long have you been a fan? - I kind of answered above but around summer 2020 during covid. The only season I watched live was 11, which maybe is a good thing because I don't think I could have handled season 5 or 7 in real time.
Favorite Gallavich moment/scene? - maybe basic, but I am obsessed with the prison reunion at the end of 9x06
Favorite Shameless character apart from Ian and Mickey? - I am a Sheila Jackson stan first and human 2nd. I missed her so much after she left
Do you write or draw or make edits? - I have 2 works on ao3 (same username), but I hate them both - some of my shitposts here on Tumblr are funny
Favorite type of Gallavich fics? - I am a sucker for some hurt/comfort and angst with a happy ending - other fics I enjoy include: jealousy, post canon (anything with husbands gallavich), fluffy smut, fix it fics - I like some AUs like high school/college, but tbh I don't read many AUs unless I find the plot super interesting
Favorite Gallavich quote? - The whole "I gotta worry, you're my husband" convo in that scene that they should not have deleted in season 11 - "I didn't know which Bs to get, so I just got all the fuckin Bs"
Anything else you’d like to share about yourself? - I was raised on a farm, which surprises people because I generally don't give off that vibe - I am one year away from getting my bachelors degree in bio engineering (nerd) - My favorite artists are Fall Out Boy, Doja Cat, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Tayor Swift

Top 5/Bottom 5 Girls in the supporting cast? i.e. Girls with 30xx in their ID
I'll start with my Top 5 first:
5. Mizuki Rui: 5th place was a toss-up between her and Chika, but I'm gonna go with Rui this time! I love how she keeps pinging between "emo kid who wears chainmail under her school uniform and spouts edgy quotes about demons" to "oh god why did i say that??? brb crawling into a hole", haha. Her magical girl outfit with a million belts is fun, and her awkward nerd friendship with Miyuri is heartwarming.
4. Yukino Kanae: I've been fond of her ever since the NA server days, and I will never not feel robbed that she's been dead since before the story even started. ;; She's like a big raggedy alley tomcat in the form of a delinquent girl-- yeah, she looks like she gets into fights all the time (and she does), but she never goes looking for trouble, and she's a huge sweetheart when you get to know her. How emotional she got when Yachiyo's grandma started doting on her... augh. All she really wants is love, deep down.
The fact that she was so willing and almost eager to throw her life away to save her friends from a witch carries some pretty depressing implications, and it's a shame that she died before the story could explore any of that. :{ I think she could've had an interesting connection with Ren. As far as Kanae's canon relationships go, I love her brief almost-friendship with Kanagi. They have a good dynamic!
3. Natsu Ryouko: Probably my favorite Tokime girl next to Shizuka herself! I love how sincere she is-- the girl can't lie her way out of a wet paper bag, and she knows it. Unfortunately, this means she's honest about things that she probably could've kept to herself (sorry Sakuya), but at least she means well. I've got a soft spot for characters who are short-tempered but protective-- she'll get mad and butt into situations that have nothing to do with her because she can't just sit on her hands while someone is suffering.
I also find it very funny that she's like "yeah I was raised in a Buddhist temple, and I pray and meditate daily, but I'm not a monk or nothin', so I can be horny for hot girls and eat meat. it's all good don't worry about it buddy" and the other characters just... try not to think about how vaguely sacrilegious it feels to grill meat next to some bald old monks
2. Suzuka Sakuya: Taken from us too soon... ;_; Working on her MSS and Another Story ch.3 really made her grow on me. She's such a good girl! I like how she's torn between her duty- helping Promised Blood seize the APS from Kamihama- and her own morals (as well as the PTSD she has from killing her girlfriend "dearest, most beloved best friend" with her own hands in the Blood Tragedy). She tries to act tough and harsh, but she's so gentle at heart that she caves way too easily.
The scene in AS3 where she says that if it ever seems like Yuna is going to lose herself to vengeance, she'll keep Yuna's heart safe until the darkness breaks and the sun rises over Futatsugi again, gets me every time. Especially in hindsight of MS7... ;; I love Sakuya's relationships with Ryouko and the rest of PB, too-- it's all so good!
1. Chizu Ranka: She's one of my top 3 characters in the game in general, main cast included. My baby, my chew toy, my shitty little purse dog... She can be aggressive, underhanded, and cowardly, but she can also be playful, affectionate, and supportive of her friends. She'll call Juri a dumb sack of bricks not to make her feel bad, but because it's true she knows Juri can do better and doesn't wanna just sit by and watch her fuck up. I guess you could say Ranka is kind, but not nice? It's a fun contrast.
And I am still gnawing on the way her guilt, weakness, and fear form an endless cycle of bad decisions. I'm a huge sucker for that "rat in a cage" type of characterization, and how her trauma continues to affect her even long after Juri got her out of Monzenbashi. There is SO much to dig into with her character from all sorts of angles; I'll be here all day if I don't cut this off now. :') BUT I must also say that she's super cute, so extra points for that!!
(Bottom 5 under the cut)
The vast majority of the supporting cast is just kinda... forgettable to me. I don't actively dislike most of them, but I literally never think about them, either. If I had to name names, though:
5. Sakurako: I guess?? idk why but she bugs me a little. I wish I could explain, but alas... Probably doesn't help that I'm not a fan of Touka or Nemu, and she's pretty intrinsically linked to them.
4. Natsuke Kako: Too generic moeblob for me. Also really not a fan of her artist or design, which I will elaborate on in a sec.
3. Kirino Sae: I don't like her design (her mask is neat, though), and something about her personality annoys me. I can't quite put my finger on what...
2. Irina Kushu: I'll be honest, it's mostly her character design. If she was drawn by someone else, she'd simply be forgettable, but... Have you ever looked at someone's art style and you just know they draw lolicon? Well, it's true in this case. Her design is way too cluttered for me anyway, but knowing that her artist draws hetero loli art makes it (and her "always sleepy" thing) feel very ://// bad vibes, scoob.
1. Miwa Mitsune: I know she's popular, but God her personality grates on me. I'll keep it short and say that she reminds me of the sort of insecure nerd you constantly have to walk on eggshells around or they'll launch into a self-deprecating spiral, "lol". She's very realistically written, which unfortunately means she's a very accurate depiction of the type of person I find the most exhausting and annoying to be around. :'V

rb!george adjusting to merc accordingly i— 🥺🥺🥺 my god, i'm so Soft for found family dynamics, or just general kindness from a group of people after they know you've gone through a rough time. i could imagine how absolutely surprised george is after realizing how fucked up his past working environment is compared to this one. 100% feel like that man would cry like he did in hungary 2021 because he finally internalizes the fact that he's okay now, that he's in a good place.
also curious—you don't have to respond fully if it spoils the fic btw!—how would lewis ask george to join merc? and if it's announced, how would the entire grid react? :0 as always, fuckin love your writing!! :D also i am a sucker for perfect and open communication too so 🤝🤝🤝 - @ruszhou
AME THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME TALK ABOUT FOUND FAMILY CAUSE IM FERAL FOR IT.
Spoilers for Redbull George au! Big ones!
God George joining Merc may be one of my favourite parts of the second half of the story haha. Lewis approaches Toto about a seat for George somewhere around Russia. Redbull have nerfed the shit out of George’s car post summer break to keep him in line, and while he’s worked his ass off to outdrive those issues, to keep his head above water, they make the car fundamentally harder to drive. Around rolls Russia, max has the engine penalty, and George is having a really hard time keeping his car in contention.
He’s also exhausted. He isn’t sleeping much, every weekend is brutal reminders that if he doesn’t perform he’s fucked. He can’t look Lewis in the eye. After Monza something in him twists like a knife seeing Lewis crash. He throws up when the team joke to max he should have tried spinning his wheels. Going to sleep means the next day comes faster so he often ends up laid up in whatever expensive hotel the team is booked into staring at his phone, trying to figure out who he can talk to. He can’t talk to his family, after all they sacrificed to get him here. He can’t talk to Aleix, or any of his previously close friends all on Redbulls pay role. All he has is Lewis, what cruel irony. He doesn’t call.
This lack of sleep, combined with the surprise rain in Russia, his horribly under responsive car, slick tires and max just slightly tagging his back wheel into a turn as he overtakes him, and George’s car spins out and takes Max with it. George hits the wall harder, max gets off lightly even if the car isn’t able to finish the race. George’s head is still spinning when max is leaping out of his car to shout at George, vitriol and acid that george can barely parse over his ringing ears. George can’t even look at him he’s panicking so badly, adrenaline making his instinct to freeze rather than fight kick in. Max shoves his head violently before he storms off (at this point he doesn’t even know if george has a head injury or not, which is pretty horrifying) and george is so dizzy he can’t get up. Max is already on the back of a cart back to the garage when medical arrives, and once they get his collar guard off, george has to try and pull himself out the car and look fine because he knows Redbull will be furious if they think he was using the medic for sympathy. He grimaces and waves his arm to the cameras even as his shoulder screams. Nobody can tell behind the helmet.
Redbull put the blame for the incident entirely on George, they quote his drop in delivery (that they forced) and his withdrawn attitude as him reflecting on what he did (he’s actually trying to stave off a crippling migraine.) When he’s back in the redbull building it doesn’t get better, they verbally abuse him for damn near an hour before marko tells George he won’t be driving for Redbull next year. When george looks like he’s teetering on a panic attack they tell him that if he behaves from now to the end of the season they MIGHT give him a seat in the AT rather than pierre. But if he steps out of line again they’ll blacklist him from the sport entirely, making everything he and his family have worked for worthless. As he leaves, max shoves him so hard into a wall he’s surprised he doesn’t break his nose, hissing something about George deserving it for fucking with his championship. Nobody stops him .
That’s how Lewis finds George, tucked away behind a Redbull motor building, blood dripping out his nose, on the verge of a complete breakdown as he tries to stop the blood getting on his shirt. Lewis was just looking for him to tell him he didn’t think the crash was his fault, and now he’s found george looking bruised and beaten emotionally and physically. He hustles George into a quiet Merc building to get him out of camera view then leaves him sat on a sofa while he finds something to get the blood off his face.
When Lewis cups his face to gently wipe the blood off his nose and lip, he ends up murmering who did this to you? He sounds angry, and George is panicking again, thinking about what just happened, and he dives for Lewis to kiss him. It’s not graceful or loving, it’s desperate, George acting on instinct bc Lewis always made the pain go away before god please take it away now. Lewis holds him back, because Jesus george what’s going on with you? You’re not fuckin okay what happened? And George just, breaks, tells Lewis everything. About the second driver status, the testing, the abuse, and how he’s just lost his seat and might be kicked out of F1 entirely. Dams broken, he’s shuddering and sobbing into Lewis’ shoulder. Ugly, snotty, terrified crying as it all crashes over him.
Lewis ends up hugging him close as he processes everything, everything george is telling him is 10x worse than he guessed. No wonder george has turned into a stranger on and off track, it’s all beyond fucked up. He can’t do anything more than help calm george down and offer him somewhere to stay away from Redbull. Once George has cried it out he just laughs without any humor to it and tells Lewis he can’t, he has to go back, if he’s gone any longer it’ll be worse. Lewis has to let him leave even if it feels like letting someone walk off to be tortured.
It’s when Val finds him, still sat on a couch; still with slightly bloody hands and a damp spot on his shoulder that Lewis realises what he can do. He asks Val for his blessing to suggest george as a replacement to his seat (as mentioned last time, it’s already been decided that Val will be leaving Merc for 22, a mutual choice between Bottas and Toto). Val looks at him like he’s grown two heads, then at his hands, and connects the dots. He approves and doesn’t make Lewis elaborate. Solid man, Val is.
Lewis approaches Toto about it just after that debrief, and it takes two weeks for a preliminary agreement to be drawn up between Toto, himself, and James V. When George podiums in turkey, it’s agreed they want to approach him, and just before COTA Lewis invites George to dinner. George goes because he barely gets to escape his hotel rooms now. He thinks it’s just Lewis; he’s not prepared for Lewis to lead him into the lavish back seating area of a fancy restaurant and to be met with Toto, James V, Bono, Val and shov all waiting for them. Here george is in a slightly wrinkled shirt across from a whole table of serious looking men in smart buisness attire.
He’s on edge immediately of course, doesn’t even sit down, all their calm measured gazes feel like spotlights, and he defaults to angrily demanding to know what the fuck is going on. Are they trying to get him to give up engineering secrets? To blackmail him into shitting on his team? Are they gonna take advantage of him as well??? They let him hiss at them like the angry feral cat he is before Val just leans forward on his elbows and says “they don’t want secrets, they want you”
George falls into shocked silence. Toto confirms it and taps a stack of papers, telling George it was Lewis’ idea. Lewis is eyeing George for a reaction, and George is so overwhelmed, confused and… kinda scared. He just can’t trust them, so he asks Lewis what the fuckin’ catch is, and Lewis tells the group he just needs to speak to George and drags him outside and into a side alley where it’s quieter and they’re hidden from passers by.
Lewis, very politely, asks George what the fuck his problem is, and George blows up at him and accuses Lewis of either trying to get something out of him, or pity him so George will feel in debt to him. He’s working himself up and doing a lot of pointing at lewis and accusing him of trying to make George his bitch on track too, and lewis gets a little fed up and grabs George by his shirt collar and pins him to the wall so George shuts up for a second.
This is when lewis uses his communication skills to tell George to maybe consider that lewis fucking misses him. Fighting George made him feel like a kid again, that he can’t stand having George handicapped on the grid no matter how much it makes his job easier. He wants to battle with him again, he wants George in a car alongside him so he knows that no matter which of them wins it’ll be for the team. And George’s jaw is tense, eyes damp and glaring at Lewis with a vulnerability Lewis fucking hates because he knows Redbull put it there. The only thing George manages to spit back in a wobbly voice that sounds a little close to tears is that “you just want to get a leg up on redbull” and Lewis just growls and gets right up in his face to tell him “of course I fucking do, don’t you? I want to battle someone who actually matters”
That finally shuts George up, and Lewis can gently unfist his shirt and step back. George self worth is in the basement and it makes Lewis so angry and sad. He misses the George who taunted him so Lewis would bend him over a table. He misses the spark in his eye. He tells George just to hear them out, listen to the offer, he doesn’t have to decide today. Redbull are going to fuck him anyway, what does he have to lose. George finally nods and let’s Lewis take him back inside, listens quietly to Shov and James explaining the details of the offered contract. The only thing he asks is to valtteri, which is he really okay with this? Val nods and explains why he’s moving. It’s all very tense as George tries to guess if they’re going to screw him, and everyone else waits for George to explode.
At the end George takes the copy of the contract he’s handed, and leaves without much of another word. Val and James immediately start questioning if George even wants a seat at Merc, sure doesn’t seem like it, but Toto is staring intently at Lewis, who matches his gaze, steady and determined. Toto nods at him and tells the rest that George wants it, the question is if he’ll let himself have this.
COTA is right before a two week break, and none of them hear a fuckin peep from George. He’s radio silent on and offline, till 3am on the Wednesday before mexico where he calls Lewis. Lewis is barely awake, asking George what’s going on, but George just cuts him off and asks lewis if he can trust Mercedes’. Can he trust this contract. Tell him this isn’t a trap.
Lewis is awake immediately, telling George about all the details of his own contract, about how fair Merc are, how they want him, not just because of Red bull. George doesn’t reply, silent, and lewis just says “ even if you don’t know you can trust us, isn’t that a better option than red bull, who you KNOW you can’t”. Silence. Lewis asks if he’s okay. George hangs up, leaving Lewis groggy and confused.
But next morning he’s getting on a private plane in Monaco with Toto and Valtteri to fly to the race, And Toto holds up his phone to show Lewis the freshly emailed scans of George’s signed contract, just waiting for his and James signatures. Sent over that morning, time stamped just after George hung up on him.

I was tagged by @wintercrushes to list my top nine movies, so here we go.
In no particular order:
Tumblr media
As a little girl, I found Mulan deeply empowering on a fundamental level. Almost every movie I saw had a man at the center of it, or as the protector, while women were generally either rewards for their bravery and/or damsels in distress. Mulan was brave, strong, adorably awkward, and willing to risk everything for her family. Seeing a woman be incredible like that, even if she had to impersonate a man, made me feel like I could be too. Also I was awkward as well, and it was nice to feel like that wouldn't stop me from being a hero if I wanted to be. I credit Mulan and Captain Janeway for making me feel that being a woman was a beautiful thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Road to El Dorado was also a meaningful movie for me as a child, but that was related, I believe, to my bisexual identity. Miguel and Tulio were originally meant to be a couple, and I found their relationship deeply compelling, far more than most straight relationships. I was also completely in love with Chel. Dem curves. Plus it was just fun, with amusing dialogue and excellent music. It remains one of my absolute favorite movies.
Tumblr media
Another movie I watched as a child which I believe I found compelling because of my queer identity. Though I didn't realize it at the time, I think on a deep level I understood all the queer subtext in Interview With The Vampire, and, though it was darker and sadder than I tended to enjoy, I was fascinated by and in love with Louis and Lestat's relationship. I haven't seen it in many years, though, and I would very much like to watch it again.
Tumblr media
While I don't know how objectively good of a movie Independence Day is, it's one of my favorites that my dad and I watched all the time when I was a kid, and every 4th of July we put it on. We can quote the whole thing. I think I'll always have a soft spot for it.
Tumblr media
Did the novel deserve better? Absolutely. This adaptation didn't do it justice at all. Regardless, World War Z remains one of my favorite movies, and is definitely my favorite zombie movie. Regrettably, I can't explain why, I just know that every time I watch it I enjoy myself greatly.
Tumblr media
I think that Cabin in the Woods is absolutely excellent. Hilarious, surreal, an excellent parody, and entirely unique, this movie is a delight for me from beginning to end.
Tumblr media
While this movie, as with the whole series, did not do Gene Roddenberry's vision for Star Trek justice, being far more about action and war, instead of a thoughtful commentary on social issues delivered through a vehicle of exploration of space and attempts to understand and connect with other cultures, it's still a delight to me. I adore the relationship between Spock and Kirk. In truth I find all the characters interesting and enjoyable to watch, though I didn't care at all for the relationship between Spock and Uhura. But I find most straight relationships to be a bit of a turn off and always have, so I don't think my opinion is necessarily rational here.
Tumblr media
This list would not be complete without Ever After, my favorite of the very few straight romance movies that I actually enjoy. Drew Barrymore's Danielle is an emotionally strong bookworm whom I absolutely adore, and Henry, despite his flaws, draws me as well. I love them together. Why that is, exactly, is not something I can fully explain. But I do.
Tumblr media
I think that The Lion King 2 is vastly underrated. Getting to see Simba as King, and all the ways his childhood trauma impacted his behavior, was fascinating. I also adored Kiara, and, as I am a sucker for redemption arcs, ESPECIALLY those that stem from overcoming poor parenting, watching Kovu shake off his mother's toxic influence, and become the kind lion that he is on the inside, was deeply meaningful for me, as I was facing the same challenges. And there was something very sweet about the two of them finding themselves in each other.
I realize that a lot of these are movies that were influential to me as a child, and I think that's likely because I much prefer television shows over movies as an adult. I like the long form nature of them, and getting to see people change in a gradual way that feels more realistic and requires fewer montages, fun though those may be (looking at you, "I'll Make A Man Out Of You") is much more appealing to me.
I'll tag @heretherebedork @absolutebl @sastiel-daily and @infinitysgrace

favorite part in sonic 2?
i just woke up i’m about to be the most autistic person in the whole wide world but umm. spoilers ahead obviously. for me the highlight of this movie was knuckles — i fucking love him so much it’s not funny. they were like How autistic can we make this little animal. and then didn’t wait for an answer. i REALLY like that he says stupid shit like ‘i am having the fun’ and ‘how dare you attack me in my hour of sorrow’ and ‘i only saved you because you saved me, which gave you a tactical advantage i do not understand’ (i saved the quotes that made me laugh because. well this movie was pretty funny) him being so serious is fucking hilarious especially considering he Doesn’t stop saying stupid shit after his redemption. speaking of i just think his development in general is really good as well. maybe it’s cliche but i honestly don’t give a fuck, i’m always a sucker for ‘evil’ characters realizing they’re not really evil, finding a new purpose in life and getting new friends/family. the parallels with him and sonic too ….. the way he smiles and laughs at the end of the movie….. weuhh …. wauehgghh …. sniff sniff
i really liked tails as well, i enjoyed his bonding with sonic a lot (especially when they had a danceoff with the russians to uptown funk… taht was. a thinf that happened in the movie) i kind of wish he got more moments to shine and/or more time to bond with sonic? but like. i enjoyed his little autistic ass too even if we didn’t get too much of him
in terms of favorite scenes, i think mine has to be the emotional beach scene between sonic and knuckles. not only for reasons i mentioned in the first paragraph — i see an edgy little red autistic character confused about their morality and purpose and i fucking go wild with it — but also because we really get to see sonic grow and be mature as he recognizes himself in knuckles. and then they found their family …. weuhhh ….. wahh …. sniff sniff (and also i really liked the final battle scene, it’s cool as fuck, there’s a giant robot, there’s family moments and themes of Not Having To Do This Alone Anymore, what else could i possibly ask for)
i liked more stuff but personally this is everything that makes this movie just fucking awesome to me. i think they should keep making good sonic movies and release sonic 3 next month just for me because i really like shadow and want to see him

Rolling with the LGBT
I've learnt that buying books just because they have gay people in them isn't always for the best, but here are my reviews of two queer books that I read recently(ish) and enjoyed. The Song Of Achilles by Madeline Miller (I am a sucker for trends and booktok ok) and Afterlove by Tanya Bryne.
10/08/2022
The Song Of Achilles
By Madeline Miller
3.5/5
I have mixed feelings about this book. As someone who knows next to nothing about Greek Mythology, (I've listened to Achillies Come Down, and that's about it) I went into this book completely blind as to what to expect. I'm assuming the story was quite traditional and similar to the myth, so I can't really critique it? I don't know? Sorry. I vowed to myself to explain more of the story and my thoughts about it in these reviews but I've kind of forgotten this particular book's , and I guess that means it wasn't very good. At least to me! Miller is a beautiful writer though, and descriptions were done with quote-worthy style. The ending was sad, and looking back it reminds me of Merlin quite a bit. Nice and devastating. What is it with MLM and devastating endings?? Achilles and Patroclus were both idiots, but it added to their charm and sometimes characters who don't do what you know is the right or most practical thing to do are most interesting.
I feel like I dipped my toe into something I had no idea about, and came out rightfully confused. But if you like Greek Mythology, go ahead! (Although my guess is you've already read it!)
Favourite character: Brises
Would I recommend this book: Like I said, if you're a fan of Greek Mythology, a MLM love story, and beautiful descriptions you can lose yourself in, please go ahead. Honestly, it's a good book, but not really my thing.

Afterlove
By Tanya Bryne
4/5
I remember this book more! I didn't give it more than a 4 because the tension, suspense and plot twists that I love in books were quite minimal, although I can't really think of where there would be a place for them. Some really beautiful, peaceful passages before everything goes wrong surrounding WLW love and just love in general, which weighed out the reduced tension. I like both soppy and dramatic tales!
On the surface, the story was about a girl falling in love, dying, and then trying to find her love again as this grim-reaper type character. But more deeply, it was about the affects of early passing (see below my favourite extract about this- one of my favourite extracts ever!) , the affects of death on loved ones and the beauty of the cycle of life. I really enjoyed it, although it deifnetly ignited lots of my fears about dying! A beautiful tale, if a bit quickly ended. Clearly the writer did not want a sequel.
Favourite Character: Poppy probably
Would I recommend this book: Absolutely. A beautiful tale, with a deep meaning behind. Creative as well, I had never seen life after death put in that way (and life after death is something I'm very interested in) Read it!
Tumblr media
It's a bit long, I know, but beautiful.
I hope you enjoyed these reviews, super old reviews now. I've read a bunch of books recently, and the two I want to cover are Legendborn and How To Kill Your Family. I think I'll clear the list I wrote on the last post, as I have no memory of most of them. Oops.
See you,
Hans

10 films i love
ty for the tag, @aerogadyne !!!!
Promare. so not to be cringe and make this my number one, but i just. absolutely adore everything about promare: it's funny, the art style is really fun, JYB and Billie Kametz (rest in peace) are there. i think the way it makes very clear, and remains quite adamant, that it is a visual story first and foremost is really fun. I LOVE the opening section, i actually think from a storytelling perspective it's so fascinatingly well done. you can see how it was inspired by the F&F series, how sure, there's a ton of pyrotechnics and shit that's there just to look cool, but there is a genuine heart underneath it that's really sweet and propels the story every single time i watch it. galo and lio are also just. such great protagonists. i adore them both so so much, great watch, 10/10
Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. One of my favorite live action films, this movie really speaks to me. I adore multiverse travel and I've toyed around with the idea of being able to exist in many universes all at once for a story, but I honestly wasn't sure it could be done. Seeing it done on screen so beautifully, so masterfully, and so coherently was just. Mwah. the symbolism was beautiful, the characters were so funny, and the tale of intergenerational wounds (what we inflict on our children is often a different version of what was inflicted on us) is poignant and thoughtfully portrayed and just. yeah. from what i understand, michelle yeoh really took this film over the top with her performance and notes to the directors, and i love how collaborative the space was. here's hoping it gets the recognition it deserves.
Looper. This movie fucks. this movie is everything i want in a sci-fi thriller, because it has so much soul. the way the movie really puts to task the idea of the masculine hero. there's a scene in this movie that just lives with me forever, because it's a scene that feels like it would belong in a gritty realistic action film, and yet it is so so sad. there's no cool music, there isn't a good reason for what happens other than it's procedure, and it physically hurts to watch. on top of that emily blunt is there and i am in love with her.
Knives Out/Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. i'm putting them together not because they're the same film but because they scratch an itch of fun storytelling within a tried and true genre. i am so compelled by stories that have such eye for detail, and i've always been particularly interested in mystery stories. i also am obsessed with the camera technique they used for Knives Out. it's beautiful and i love it so so much.
The Truman Show. also a really really cool movie, i'm obsessed with the way this semi-predicted the sensationalization of people's lives, and the parasocial relationships we now have with people we feel like we "know". moreover, i rly rly like the commentary on art and the idea of caricaturing the self and how that ultimately makes the world around you a caricature, too.
The Adjustment Bureau. one of the first movies i ever really really loved, because i was super obsessed with the idea of trying to go against forces larger than you to be with the person you love (for some strange reason. who knows what that could be. 🌈) i got so interested in how this movie worked, i watched it over and over for years, until i could quote it by rote, and then i read the screenplay because i was desperate to know how it worked. i wouldn't say this is the best movie in the world; far from it. it has this beautiful, interesting premise, but it doesn't take any risks: david and elise are a straight cis white couple with no real barriers other than unforeseen hands saying that they can't. i think there's so much potential here, though, and it's the thing that i was so interested in for so so so long.
Your Name (Kimi no Namae Wa). not to be basic but this movie made me cry a lot. i'm such a sucker for body swap shenanigans in general, on top of time travel, but i rly rly rly liked the idea of two people connecting in spite of space and time and everything to do their damndest to save each other and everyone they loved. just because they cared. i always found that to be so powerful and meaningful.
The Invitation. this is a movie i have mixed feelings about because it was an interesting film and had a lot of really lovely motifs regarding grief, but it was also a film i watched with someone who is no longer in my life. but the music in it is really melancholic and beautiful, and i rly do think it's such a massively good take on how grief is powerful to eat up not just you, but everyone around you, too.
Gone Girl. brooooo this movie was so so so good, i loved it so much, although the first time i saw it i was not a fan because i was sixteen and i had to watch the cunnilingus scene with my dad right next to me. but the second time i watched it i was alone and also 22 and so it was rly good. i just love the bait and switch. i love the evil woman. i love everything about it. fantastic.
probably does not count but the Sense8 movie was bananas and cool and beautiful and i am so sad that show did not get the five seasons it deserved, it was a really, REALLY good idea. it fucked some stuff up, but this show was so queer and unapologetic about it, and i enjoyed just how much of the show was driven by love. i rly rly did.
anyways sorry this is long and full of my rambles, but even doing this list has put into perspective just how much of the same stuff i like LOL. anywho!!! i figure i'll tag... @caffernnn, @suhmayzooka, @relationshipcrimes, @futuresoon, @kavehandtea, @honeydots, @cawfka, @floodedlungs and anyone else who might be interested!! have fun, i want to see your favorite movies if you're up for sharing <3

Drama rec masterlist | Drama rant thread (beware of spoilers)
Tumblr media
I do not really know how to start this review, so I think I’ll start with a quote from this article called Extraordinary Attorney Woo is autistic representation at its best and its worst  (I found this article a very interesting read as it goes over both the positive and negative aspects of creating a drama like this - for example, while some people feel really represented by this media, this drama is now also used in South Korea by children to bully others who are “different”).
“It’s unrealistic to expect one character — or even one series — to fully represent the full scope of a disability. And even shows that are aiming to do good can fall short.”
It’s also important to note that I am not on the autism spectrum, and therefore can not and will not speak on the behalf of neurodivergent people (or whatever else they might identify as). I will do my best to go at this like I would any other drama, though I do want to start with stating that I - for once - did some research before going into this drama.
I heard a lot about the show, but did not want to watch it, if the people it is supposed to represent does not feel like it was doing its job properly.
From YouTube, I found the creators Stephanie Bethany, who did a video on their thoughts about the drama (here), and Tsuki Iwamoto, who has made an entire series reacting to the drama (here) - both creators are autistic, and I loved seeing the drama through their eyes. So if you liked the drama (and even if you haven’t watched it yet) I highly recommend watching their videos on this.
While in general, it seems the drama has been positively received, there are of course also people out there, who might not feel represented, and I would love to hear your thoughts as well!
Now for my thoughts on this drama; it’s overall super cute and easy-going, while at the same time handling some very sensitive topics - of course mostly related to the obstacles Young-woo faces because of her autism. While the over-all plot is focused on her, it does also go through the typical kdrama tropes you will see in other dramas, so often Young-woo is “just” another lawyer on a case, and she works like everyone else - just in her own way.
I also really like the one-case-per-episode format that is keeps throughout, as we get to see the team handle all sort of different moral end ethic dilemmas as they try to do their best in a new job. And the romance is adorable in all the best ways!
I’m always a sucker for teams coming together, learning and growing together almost like a family, and this does all that and more. It leaves me wanting to know more about them; how they end up and are they happy after the show ends?
Overall, just a fantastic legal kdrama that I highly recommend watching!
There are rumors of a season two already, and while I will probably watch that, I will not review it here.
