Team Minato week day 3- Any au/ any swap/ crossover

They set camp at the dead of the night.

By the time they had finished setting everything up and having dinner it was already well past midnight.

Rin was putting off the fire and checking their trails while Minato made sure everything was in check and Kakashi and Obito were just done fighting about…

Something

Minato doesn't actually know just what they were fighting about, all he could tell is that they were fighting and angry enough to still be visibly mad at each other

Minato sighs deeply, watching Obito put his tongue out at Kakashi behind his back while Kakashi left to sulk somewhere else

When he signed up to be a instructor, Minato had hoped it would be something lighter than the war, he just wanted to look after some children and bask in the lighter missions–

–but Kakashi and Obito are driving him crazy

Ever since they'd officially became a team a few months ago there wasn't a single waking hour where Minato wouldn't have to put up with them being insane

Kakashi usually found himself above petty fighting– usually he'd just bluntly insult people and then ignore them– but he seemed completely incapable of letting anything Obito said go

And with Obito's pride and temper…

Rin is no help, either. She usually just watches them fight and then makes it worse by adding her own thoughts on what we they were talking about–

Minato can hear Kushina laugh at him from all these miles away

Minato frown-pouts, fighting an imminent headache as he watches Kakashi climb up the small hill they'd settled beside to sit on a log by himself

He threw a look back at Rin, who shrugged. Minato wordlessly pleaded her to go talk to Obito so he forgets whatever it was and everything goes back to normal and she smiles before shooting a thumbs up and going after him

Maybe she is a little helpful, Minato thinks guiltily, promising to pay her back in his mind as he hesitantly climbs to go meet Kakashi

Minato sees him looking up at the sky, and feels a pang of worry hit him– Kakashi wasn't usually that upset about their fights but this time he was clearly bitter

Slowly, as if not to scare a skittish animal, Minato takes seat besides him, silently scooting closer

Neither of them speak, Kakashi doesn't even acknowledge him, but he also doesn't send him away and Minato takes that as an invitation to suit himself

"So" he says, finally "What are you doing here all by yourself? Minato smiles, refraining himself from placing his hand on Kakashi's shoulder, since he knows he wouldn't appreciate it.

Minato doesn't fully expect Kakashi to answer, especially when the boy doesn't bother to take his eyes away from the sky, but after a beat of silence Kakashi whispers

"I'm staring at Mom until she vanishes Obito away" Minato's smile falters, and he is forced to bite his lips so he doesn't laugh, inappropriately so.

He shouldn't find it funny, honestly, it's probably concerning that Kakashi would wish for Obito to disappear just because of an argument but from what Minato has observed that's just how children are.

So instead of laughing, Minato coughs, readjusting himself on the log so he can follow Kakashi's eyes to whatever it is he's looking at

"You're staring at your mom?" He asks conversationally, Kakashi only hums in response but Minato is happy to just look at the night sky together

He notes where Kakashi's gaze goes "the moon?" Kakashi makes a sound of affirmation "yes" he confirms "that's mom"

Minato's lips form into an indignant smile as he looks back down at Kakashi, still peacefully looking at the astros and has to keep himself from chuckling "that's your mom?" Kakashi nods decisively

"Father said so" Kakashi states, sounding completely convinced of himself. Minato's humour breaks a bit as he looks at his student then back at the moon

"She's beautiful" he settles for, not having the heart to tell Kakashi his father hadn't meant it literally. Kakashi hums back at him again, this time sounding very pleased

"They were arguing about whether cats or dogs were better and I told Obito I liked squirrels more, but if i had to choose i'd pick dogs. He got worse."

is what Rin says when Minato asks if she'd gotten anything out of Obito and Minato takes it back, she's not helpful at all!

"Why did you tell him that!?"

Rin shrugs "I told him to suck it up and go to sleep, so he's laying down now. i think he's still mad" Minato shuts his eyes tightly and counts to ten

Oh god

Rin peeks an eye open, curiously peeking at her younger teammate as they laid down on his floor together

"Why do you always do this?" Rin whispers, as if they might be heard, despite being alone in a house surrounded by nothing but the woods

She pouts when she can't get a quite good look of Kakashi, turning her head slightly to stare at him laying down beside her, basked in moonlight

"I don't want to float" Kakashi says, dismissively. Rin tilts her head, that makes sense. Rin thinks she'd also rather not float constantly, if she could help it.

She nods to herself, turning back over to lean on the ground, closing her eyes. Rin deduces it must be quite inconvenient to have to anchor yourself to the ground so you don't go out flying all the time.

They stay in silence for a moment, then Rin breaks it again, her previous thoughts raising a question "why do you only do it on full moons, then?"

Rin had noticed when they would have missions during the full moon, Kakashi would not sleep, instead passing the night in blank so he could use his chakra to anchor himself to the earth

To think of it, Kakashi always has a little bit of chakra on his feet, connecting him to the ground. Rin realizes it is quite odd, but odd is something she's used to, so it doesn't bother her

Kakashi hums, unmoving from his spot "the pulls gets stronger during the full moons" he explains and Rin nods solemnly "i see" she answers, she supposes that makes sense

And then they fall silent again, moonlight filters through the window and illuminating the wooden floorboards, Rin is happy to our bask in the moment for a while

This time it takes a few minutes of the pleasant silence before Rin's mind is flared with another question;

"Can I see you float?" She whispers conspiratorially, awkwardly, Rin does not float herself, nor does she know anyone who does, so she worries it might insensitive to ask

If it is, though, Kakashi makes no show of it as he only takes a moment of silence before asking, curious rather than affronted "why?"

Rin shrugs, opening her eyes back again and trying to adjust them to the light "i've never seen anyone float before"

She's seen some Shinobi jump really high and far, or some delay their landing for quite some time since Shinobi have better grip of themselves in the air but she can't call that floating

Kakashi doesn't say anything, but Rin's eyes are drawn to him when she hears him shuffle around.

Excited at the agreement, Rin pushes herself to her elbows, watching as Kakashi gets up and stops to stand languidly

Rin gasps herself into sitting abruptly as Kakashi releases the chakra from his feet and they begin to leave the ground, sending Kakashi slowly hauling into air

"Wooow!" She delights, clapping her hands together in praise as Kakashi lifts higher and higher.

then she quickly moves to get up and stay beside him, suddenly worrying he might float up too high and become unable of coming back down

Maybe that's why he didn't want to float, Rin muses

"Are you okay, hold on–" she reaches her hands out to grab Kakashi's, grasping it firmly so he won't float further

Rin Marvels in the way the moonlight reflects from under Rin as Kakashi's hair and clothes continue to float higher and sway with the breeze. It's quite an incredible ability and she is glad Kakashi was sharing it with her!

"Woah" Rin lets out as Kakashi's pulls abruptly strengthens and her feet lift off the ground, "I'm floating now, too" she Snickers in good humour, looking back down as the ground as it becomes ever slightly more distant

"I think it might be better if we stopped now" Rin comments, worrying that they might both get stuck in the roof, or perhaps may float out the window

Kakashi nods slowly, trying to weight his body and with the confirmation Rin tugs at his hands harshly, pulling them both down so she can put her feet back to the ground

It takes a few moments of team effort but they quickly manage to back up further enough from Rin to anchor herself to the ground and lightly pull Kakashi to his feet

As Kakashi grounds himself, Rin lets go of his hands with a kind smile "that was nice, thank you" Kakashi shrugs

Much later, after they once again lay their back on the floor to rest, looking at the moonlight, Rin finally bemuses "why do you float?" She didn't know anyone else who did, but perhaps it's an unheard of kekkei genkai

Kakashi hums, looking lazily at the moon through the window "my mother used to float" Rin nods pleasedly, that checks out

Obito has always liked the plains, they're beautiful and easy to navigate, they make him feel very small, but in a good way, with how they visibly stretch over miles and miles and Obito liked to pick at the weeds and flowers that graced along them while he travelled

He also specifically liked the plains they were traveling besides of, Obito's team had already passed through here quite a few times for missions and Obito always loved it when they did

The flowers are really beautiful and Obito likes the hills, especially the ones here, where the sky is so open you can see millions of billions of stars just by lying down, it's beautiful!

Stargazing is nice, Obito likes stargazing. In The list of things That Obito does not really like, (which isn't, frankly, very big to begin with) though, is wolves.

Particularly wolves that want to kill him. which is pretty much every wolf.

So, understandably, when he catches a chorus of howling off in the distance, Obito ups his guard, and when that howling multiplies he stops in his track, alerting his team to his discomfort

"Uh, guys–" Obito mouths nervously, gulping as the howling seems to come closer and closer to their merry band

His team stops to patiently– not very patiently in Bakashi's case– stare back at him

Obito's eyes frantically dart back and forth "haha, what do you think they're howling at?" He tries to joke and then definitely does not shriek when a wolf peeks in from a bush

It cautiously tilts its head before deciding to come out of the bush, walking straight towards then and Obito freezes, not even having the peace of mind to arm himself

He shakingly watches as the wolf comes closer, bringing in several other wolves, and goes slowly towards Bakashi

It's always Bakashi

Obito gulps as the wolf gets up and close with his teammate, sniffling him and walking around in circles while more and more of it's friends join in

He expects Kakashi to sunshin himself away, or attack the wolf, or do anything, but Kakashi does nothing and when the wolf puts it's snout to Kakashi's hand, he lets him

Frantically snapping out of his trance, Obito picks a Kunai and charges in between his stupid teammate and the creature, keeping a defensive stance, ready to attack

The wolf only tilts his head, as if judging him, then sits himself comfortably again and starts howling, right over Obito to Bakashi. It's always Bakashi

"Agh, guys! What is it doing!?" He shuffles nervously, gagging as more wolves surround them and sit themselves down, joining the chorus

"Guys?" He asks, frantically eyeing between Rin and Minato, but they do nothing, everyone in his team does absolutely nothing as Obito and Kakashi are about to be mauled by man-eating wolves

Obito feels a really big one plop down by his leg and turns around wildly "don't–"

Kakashi finally reacts, only to pull Obito's hand back "stop it, you idiot" he huffs annoyedly "you can't threaten them"

"Threaten them?" Obito snaps around to stare at Kakashi affrontedly, what the fuck is wrong with him!!? "Are you insane!? They're threatening me! Us!"

But Kakashi ignores him, dropping his bag to the grass "he's right, you should probably not agitate them, Obito" Obito sends sensei the same affronted gaze, then Rin, who just smiles "they'll probably leave soon"

Crazy! they're all crazy! Especially Kakashi who's–

"W-wha wha– what are you doing!? Kakashi! Oh my god!–" Obito draws his kunai back in surprise as Kakashi comes closer to the first biggest wolf, crouching down in front, arms wide open

"Kakashi, you can't" he tries to step closer but Kakashi rudely raises a hand stopping Him "shut up" he states blandly

Obito steps back, indignant "shut up? You– oh, oh my god!?" Kakashi hugged the wolf, Kakashi hugged the wolf, kakashi is hugging the wolf!

How is he the only one that sees a problem with this!!?

Obito watches in horror as Kakashi lets the wolf rub itself against him, ruffles it's fur, scratches it's ears, then lightly bumps their foreheads before switching up to the next wolf

Obito has to be hallucinating

Kakashi continues the weird ritual with each one of the wolves as they stop howling and go to line up and hound next to him, then when he sees he's gave attention to all of them he stands back up, swatting dirt from his clothes to the ground

Kakashi shakes himself slightly, picks up his bags, nods at the wolves and when Obito hopes this might be over and left behind only as something for him to think about instead of sleeping, says, delusionally "I apologize, but I have follow them to the cliff"

He doesn't explain why he has to follow a bunch of wolves to a cliff, or how he knows that's what they wanted, if it was what they wanted at all–

And yet "is there anything we can do for you, Kakashi-kun?" Is all sensei has to ask about it, Of all questions "huh?"

Kakashi shakes his head, adjusting his bag and letting a wolf that's almost the same colour as his hair rub it's snout against his leg

"Can we come with you, then?" Obito gaped like a fish "huh?" Kakashi seems to think over it for a while, then look at his wolves for confirmation, then he nods at Rin who does a little clap

"Great!" It's not great, it's not great, they should be taking Kakashi and hightailing it by now, what are they doing?

What are they doing? Is all Obito can think as he's dragged along through the plains with a pack of wolf and his insane teammates to the edge of a cliff

what are they doing?, is all he can think, paralyzed and Kakashi once again drops his bag and goes to stand at the very brink

Kakashi is a single shove away from falling and Obito worries, but he signals them to stay back, so he obligues

The wolves join him and then…

They just start howling again, at the moon this time.

Kakashi stands in the middle as more and more of the wolves arrive around him and join their creepy little chorus

The scene is almost cinematographic, and Obito is in awe despite himself, as Kakashi's hair flutters under the moonlight and he stands in a sea of oddly docile monsters

Bakashi has always been so. fucking. Weird.

Obito stands there, with Rin and Sensei and they watch and wait for minutes, 10 or 15, before Kakashi finally quietens the wolves, softly bidding them goodbye

Then he walks past them, urging them to come along like nothing had happened and none of them ever speak of it again.

"I see you are stalking my brother again" Zetsu appears without warning beside him, Obito doesn't even wait for him to finish before moving to defend himself "I'm not stalking him! I'm just watching so i can gather information for–"

Zetsu's words register to him and Obito whips nos head around immediately, his neck almost cracking, to stare holes into Zetsu's grinning face "YOUR FUCKING WHAT!?"

"My little brother" zetsu says delightedly, looking at Obito as if he's stupid "i believe he was your teammate, yes? 'bakashi' as you say"

No fucking way.

Obito's jaw hits the floor and he's left grasping at straws "are you kidding me?" Zetsu has to be making fun of him

"Hmm, not indeed, he's a child of mother Kaguya, as am I" Obito's mouth opens and closes without him saying anything

Kaguya? Like the children's tale Kaguya? Kaguya as in–

"LIKE THE MOON!? THE MOON IN THE FUCKING SKY!?"

GENDERBEND RAHHHHHH

i love drarry and i love women so put it together and you get this, i present to you: Harphine

Harry is consequently now named Harley; Draco is also now named Delphine (Full name Delphinus Lucius Malfoy, however asks to be referred to as Delphine because it's pretty). I decided to keep everyone else the same because the world centres around them. Delphine is the ultimate coquette girl, lana del rey wishes she could be as coquette as her. Mega popular girl and a trendsetter, one day she wears a headband to school, the next day, half the female students are as well. Extreme closet gay, internalised homophobia...

Harley on the other hand is a major tom-boy, as a toddler and young childhood she probably had a buzzcut or short hair because her hair was too much maintenance for the Dursley's. She also wore Dudley's old clothes so she was mistaken for a boy for most of her young life, she only began to grow it out when she started attending Hogwarts and got a major glow-up in third year. and now the multitude of headcanons: 1) Delphine resorts to flirting to get her way with male students, however it is only by accident does Harley discover Delphine is prudent when she flirts with her. Delphine immediately goes red, sputtering incoherently:

"MY FATHER WILL HEAR OF THIS!!!" "good, I'm glad he knows about me so it won’t be as awkward to meet him when I'm over for dinner"

Harley uses this to her advantage and begins to spread rumours about Delphine to finally get back at her for all these years 'Pure Blood Delphine Malfoy, sole heir, is a homosexual?!' It gets out of hand and Delphine's rep gets ruined or somethin

2) Harley is a bit of an artist, she likes drawing/doodling. One day she's sitting in potions class, not listening because fuck that, idly drawing on her parchment without much thought, only for her to realise that hey... this kind of looks like Delphine, and then realising she's just been drawing Delphine in various sitting poses for the past half an hour.

3) Even though Harley really hates Delphine, she has to admit, she's really fucking gorgeous, and in an odd way Harley kind of admires how put together she is. Harley does try to imitate her makeup one day because she wants to know how it feels to be pretty/put together, it turns out shite, Ron laughs at her, Harley beats him up; Delphine also laughs at her. But when they do become good friends, like fifth year or so, Delphine does do her makeup (imagine that one img of the girl on top of the other doing her eyeshadow, that's them).

3.5) Slight extension from the previous one, I mentioned this on my xwitter awhile back -- Harry purposely messes up his tie so Draco can fix it, because Draco's love language is to clean up people, i.e brushing lint off their shoulder, adjusting their collar, kind of like a cat. In this genderbent au, Harley messes up her lipstick everytime so Delphine can redo it.

4) Delphine is a massive closeted lesbian, and is pining for Harley in her own odd way. When they begin to get close, Delphine instictually reels back, because she's used to playing hard-to-get with other guys as a flirting method. She doesn't quite register that it doesn't work with girls, which leaves Harley wondering what she did wrong and why Delphine isn't as interested.

5) When they do finally get into a relationship, most likely like sixth/seventh year, it's very low-key and secretive because Delphine still has internalised homophobia/closeted. But Lucius ends up arranging her marriage because she's an only child and a female to the Malfoy name. What happens next is idk

6) Lucius either dotes on Delphine like a child who is in constant need of being helped and cannot be independent, or never speaks to her ever because he's disappointed he has a daughter.

OKAY THATS IT, I HAVE MORE HEADCANONS THAT I WILL POUR IF ENOUGH ASK FOR IT LOL... i wanna see if I can make Harphine their genderbend ship name, it's cute

Shingyoku fashion :)

Hi it is me the Shingyoku guy™️ posting of the very specific touhou pc98. Today I finished baking an unsollicited height scale with all my Shingyoku design interpretations :)

Took me a while to arrest them all!! This is quite a wide picture so I made some standalones grouped per pairs, below if youre interested 👇

Felt the need to mention it as some disclaimer: Unless the opposite is mentionned (for one take), all brunettes are men and all redheads are women. (I know this place's userbase seemed less judgy than on other places ive posted before, its just. To not assume some of them are women just because they have long hair 🙄)

1a. Shapeshifter Shingyoku (a kami, my main take). The ones with two tones hair are headcanon additionnal forms (small one being a "weak/rest form" & the dramatic one a "true/complete" form). So these 4 are the same person.

1b. Shingyoku's creators. HC: Shingyoku being a kami born from the fused spirits of 2 shrine officiants. They are humans who reach godhood and lived a long time before HRtP took place.

2. Weird """genderbend""" take. Shingyoku has no canon, but brunette is mostly depicted as a man & redhead as a woman, this take goes the opposite way. I imagine too theyre the gatekeepers in case 1b didnt fuse into the kami Shingyoku. They are youkais (fudakaeshi & oni).

3. A more derivative take. Redhead is a dragon deity from an other planet/realm who arrived on earth (I have a whole worldbuilding WIP). Brunette is human. Both are diviners (redhead refers to Yi Jing, brunette an onmyoji impersonating a priest). They live in some sort of fantasy Heian era. The gates are their final destination tho nothing refering to touhou like names being mentionned (hope I clearly explained it Id like to keep it short)

4. A very derivative take. Both are same species as redhead from 3. My main direction was in general to create a whole species/civilization using Shingyoku's vague concept rather than make something which would fit into touhou lore. So these dont look "touhoulike" at all but are my personal favorite as I went with my own designing style. So they dont live on earth/gensokyo, no touhou terms mentionned, just me wanting more Shingyoku inspired content. It would take me a while to explain what they are, refer to & the worldbuilding of their planet/realm, so Ill dedicate a whole post for them one day. Im just happy a concept as vague/obscure as Shingyoku now inspire me into making my own lore :)

Maybe for some people ALL of these designs will look very derivative and "they dont look like the sprites!!" but

Im an old fashion student with a degree, I love making designs since years

The sprites have very simple designs, maybe for some its not a bad thing, but ive always been more interested in the more ornated designs, I wished to enhance the designs a bit. I love Shingyoku I want them to be extra!

Not just about simplicity but the balance of flow as well. I dont straight up interpret a design from its base material especially for such old sprites. I treat the sprites elements more as a list of "to add" reccurences (to not say "pr*mpts, I hate that word now). I initially dont love Shingyoku for their design, rather the history I have with them, its hard for me to appreciate most fanarts of them. But this is a whole topic regarding touhou pc98 chara design which deserves its own post for an other day.

IM BACK! BSD genderbend HC!!

- I like the idea of some of the women being androgynous like

1. Tecchou, masc and fem tecchou are THE SAME! Except for fem Tecchou wearing a rose hair clip and having SLIGHT curves and bust, but she’s muscular OK!

2. Fyodor. Ok I’m debating on this, I love Fyodor having messy long hair and MAYBE she does have long hair at first but then she cuts it short to look like masc Fyodor. She’s flat and she doesn’t have obvious curves which makes it easy for her to cross dress. She can literally morph into another person which makes her a very interesting villain. This is the same as fem dazai as fem dazai cross dresses A LOT but she’s still very feminine

3. Atsushi. Ok so I think fem Atsushi has shoulder length hair and overall she’s very feminine with how she dresses but she’s REALLY toned and when she ties her hair up and wears a binder during fights, she looks like her masc counterpart. I think fem Atsushi can beat male Akutagawa in a pure fist fight

Some of the girls definitely have muscles like

1. Atsushi

2. Tecchou

3. Kunikida. SHE HITS THE GYM WITH ATSUSHI AND YOSANO

4. Jouno (just a bit, she is a hunting dog afterall)

5. fukuchi DUH

6. Fukuzawa in her prime

So some changes in the genderbend universe:

There is NO prison arc. I don’t think fem Fyodor or fem dazai would’ve gotten caught (firstly, fem fyodor can change her appearance and fem dazai has all her crimes done under an alias called Yōzō so technically, fem dazai has no criminal records) + I think fyodor would’ve overwhelmed the police by seducing men into doing crimes so that the police would be buried with work until they fail to notice fyodor’s movements.

but the situation is, Dazai went off to trap Fyodor in her hiding spot deep in a forest while Fyodor attempts to leave in a cargo ship. This is to prevent Fyodor from further communicating with the DOA members and to corner her. Dazai’s plan is to kill her but she needed to do it alone because the forest was a place filled with traps that only Dazai could forsee. The whole poison and escape competition fiasco does happen but it’s in a form of catch and seek. Both of them injects poison in themselves. Both agreed to allow sigma to choose who is the runner and who is the seeker. Runner has to escape the forest and get into the cargo ship to get the antidote before the seeker catches them. Both fyodor and dazai were allowed to have a secret weapon but they didn’t know of each other’s weapons. Fyodor’s weapons are obviously the myriad of traps in the forest but dazai chose sigma as her weapon. It seems as though fyodor’s weapon is greater. The whole sigma discovering fyodor’s past will happen and sigma was ditched in the middle of the forest alone :(

Vampire Chuuya got into the mix but here’s the fruity part. Chuuya pinned dazai on the floor and was about to shoot her. Fyodor was already at the piers, waiting to board the cargo ship, and had tons of cameras in the forest because it is her hideout. BUT fyodor didn’t JUST want dazai to die, she wanted dazai to be a vampire. So after the ‘shot’, Chuuya bit Dazai on the neck HOHO!! So they’re both ‘vampires’ now and were aiding fyodor up the ship(instead of injuring her hand like masc fyodor, fem Fyodor hurt her ankle and was limping). Vampire dazai helps her up the ship and then Fyodor began her sappy narration of how she is an anti skk while gazing down at Nikolai and Chuuya at the dock. Dazai immediately swung an axe to fyodor’s back (an axe Chuuya had planted in the ship prior + reference to crime and punishment) fyodor fell backwards and into some boxes where she realised that the boxes contained Kajii’s lemon bombs. The whole skk plan was revealed and Dazai blew up the whole ship.

Fem fyodor’s arm floated up on the water surface and dazai picked it up for fem Nikolai to touch and to kiss.

This is a play on how fem skk does a lot of undercover missions and are great actresses. There are no guards in the forest but the worse part is, if you die in the forest, nobody will find your body because it’s as if the forest has consumed you and it’s a confusing place to get trapped in. This happens at night. So yeah. Instead of a prison arc, we have a forest arc. Fem Dazai got BADLY injured. Instead of the elevator scene with sigma and dazai, it was a river. Dazai pushed sigma out of the river and into land while she got swept away by the strong currents. She fell down the waterfall and broke her ankle. Fyodor injured her ankle when dazai used her gun (yes fem dazai does carry a gun everywhere) to shoot Fyodor’s ankle amidst the trees and bushes.

Fem dazai wears her skirt and her blue stripe button up only. She lost her polio in the forest because it got caught in the twigs *cough one ada member has to be transferred to the PM theory cough* and she’s not wearing her vest. She gave her coat to sigma so that sigma doesn’t get cold at night.

Fem fyodor wears her regular white button up but it’s a dress for her with tights. The tights are torn from running about in the jungle and she only has one pair of shoes on LOL.

Bonus, Nikolai wears a safari costume. Jokes.

Thank youuuuu I love doing stuff with the genderbends, I do think about them all the time so they’ll keep showing up, don’t worry 🫡

Using this as an excuse to talk about her character cuz I’ve experimented with a few different interpretations of her so here’s my current thoughts:

* Idk if this is canon and retconned or fan theory but my personal view of the events of El Mañana is that she wanted to fake her death to get out of the public eye. It subsequently went horribly wrong, but she essentially wanted to disappear. This feeds into my next point:

* I know that initially, her being very young symbolized the now and future of music and pop culture, so she was supposed to be into technology and easily adapting to changing times. However, I think that now that she’s older and has been in the public eye for so long and with the stress and anxiety that comes with it, she wouldn’t want to be online. She wouldn’t be on tik tok, she would be planning her Gone Girl era. I think she’d be caught between wanting to be in the know of what’s going on but being utterly overwhelmed by growing up with little privacy and seeing how women are treated in the industry would not make her want to play into the roles people expect of her.

* She also didn’t get a lot of socialization with kids her age so she was always praised by adults for how smart she was, but now she comes across as blunt and strange to people talking to her outside of a working environment. Part of it is her unusual upbringing, part of it is autism

* She comes across very well in interviews but she’s not quite as good at navigating one-on-one or casual settings. She doesn’t mean to be rude, she’s just usually around a small group of people who know her well and share her strangeness

* She’s the least approachable of the four when it comes to random fan interactions. She’s not mean but she comes across as standoffish and might throw your phone if she says “no pictures” and gets ignored

Other miscellaneous headcanons

* She’s one of those maniacs who deals with menstrual cramps through exercise

* She burps like a truck driver because when she was a kid 2D or Murdoc would respond with “good one”

* She’s not afraid of much because she liked impressing people with feats of strength and showing off that she was brave. If you’re dating her, she’d be the designated bug killer

* She was very energetic and liked roughhousing, which the other 3 tried to keep up with but she would run them ragged. Even now she gets a burst of energy and subjects 2D to shit like

* She helps Russel if he happens to be cooking but on the rare occasion she does cook, she will not share with anyone

* Despite being small she will take up as much space as she wants. If someone is sitting on the couch with her she will lay her legs across them and hog 3 blankets

* Guys you don’t wanna hear it but she’s not the meme queen you want her to be, she’s not on Tumblr. If she’s doing anything, she’s sharing cat videos between herself and Russel. She doesn’t know gougar. She doesn’t know Vines either. Her humor is dry and deadpan as well. She says something sarcastically and people will take her at face value

* She hates being spoken down to or treated like a child but will quickly pull the “but I’m the baby” card with the other 3 when it’s convenient

EndHawks (BNHA) -

Actually my instinct after watching BNHA was to ship EndHawks, bc they ARE the bratty western-inspired blonde younger guy x button-downed repressed trad japanese dark-haired older guy trope from BL manga + their issues are tailor made for each other, they fit together like puzzle pieces (derrogatory). I think this could be one of those ships where it looks extremely messed up from the outside - and it IS messed up - but it works for the people involved. BUT most people don't write it correctly, for instance in my ideal Endhawks fic the rest of the todoroki family would HATE the relationship because they would think (correctly) that Endeavor is evading taking responsibility for being a terrible father by choosing to be in a relationship with someone who has a terrible father kink. And most people either don't write Hawks as messed up enough or they write him as messed up in a generic gay slut way, and not his specific variety of messed up.

BakuDeku (BNHA) -

So because the Endhawks fic is mostly not what I'm looking for, I just kinda gravitated to BakuDeku which has tons of awesome fic, plus I'm just not as choosy about the characterization and accept all kinds of AUs that have barely any connection to canon. Haha. (I like the genderswap fic for them actually). BakuDeku is fun because they're shounen rivals who aren't purely rivals, even from the beginning of the manga Bakugou is a lot more involved than the rival character usually is (knows Deku's secret & helps with the training plan etc). It fixes a lot of the things that generally annoy me about rival plots in shounen manga... I also like the growth narrative for Bakugou and Deku's versatility as a POV character.

I'm not currently shipping anything else... maybe Cloud/Tifa/Aeris, in any combination of two or three, was the last thing I shipped but didn't really talk about on tumblr. Oh! And the main characters from the Kdrama It's Okay to Not Be Okay, Ko Moon-Young and Moon Gang-tae.

First ship: Ranma/Akane from Ranma 1/2!!! Classic ship, probably the first really big juggernaut anime ship on the internet. It's all about the genderbending with this one... I used to really like the fanfiction where they're together because Akane is a attracted to women and Ranma is sometimes a woman.

Last Song: Me and RJ are doing a version of Death Cab for Cutie's I'll Follow You Into the the Dark to sing the baby to sleep at night, so probably that? I made up a new harmony for it that I'm kinda proud of. One of these days we'll record it and I'll put it up here.

Last Movie: It was the Barbie movie, yeah. (No I haven't seen Oppenheimer.)

Currently Reading: "A Secret Princess" by Margarat Stohl and Melissa de la Cruz. It's like a fanfic mashup of The Secret Garden, which I've never read, and A Little Princess, which I've read a bunch of times and love, with a mysterious new original character added to the mix. A fanfic remix of a book I've already read is about the level of literature I can handle at the moment.

Currently Consuming Watching: I'm into this house renovation show on Roku called Old House New Home, because it's set in England and they actually talk about the history of the area and why the houses were built the way they were... there's a lot of historically listed beautiful homes... and not every renovation looks exactly the same following the exact same trends, although a lot of them are similar (combine the kitchen and dining room, raise the ceiling, add windows and glass doors and skylights - all things that look beautiful and increase the feeling of light and space, but make the house less energy efficient).

Me and RJ are also watching The Marvelous Ms. Maisel - the heavy(ish) show - and the One Piece live action - the lighter(ish) show - when we have time. Recommend both of those.

im sort of on hiatus, i didn't make an official announcement but to be blunt ive been a bit unmotivated in general, i still have lots of muse but i guess i have hit a bit of writers block, hoping to be out of this rut soon though. i do lurk on this blog though i have yet to respond to my dms from forever ago (sorry! ill reply as soon as i can ;;)

i do have some hot takes actually

1) liking valentino is fine. i love him, i don't condone his actions but i adore villains. going after people that like valentino is not okay, i have seen so much unnecessary hate towards people that like him as a character that don't condone his actions.

2) if you don't like valentino that's completely valid but understand that the other vees are completely supportive of and complicit in his actions. vox and vel are not sweet little babies that need to be saved from valentino, velvette makes daterape drugs and vox probably watches valentino do horrible things and does fuckall to stop it, and if anything profits off of it and therefore thinks whatever happens to angel doesn't matter. so long as he's making money. there is no lesser evil among them they are all equally horrible. val is not some super manipulative puppet master who's pulling the strings in this operation, vox is leagues smarter and walks that man in circles.

3) cat alastor was never funny to me im sorry 😭 if you like it that's fine and you're so valid but personally i see that thing and cringe

4) media literacy is dead in this fandom; people either consider characters sweet babies or they consider them to be the root of all evil. angel dust is a terrible person, before he and husk bond he does harass husk and that's not okay. vaggie even states this. angel has trauma but trauma does not justify that behavior. angel is at least redeemable, he's so capable of improvement, but when the fandom gives alastor the same treatment? im genuinely baffled. alastor the SERIAL KILLER CANNIBAL people think is redeemable because he... loves his mommy? that's not how that works dawg. the btk killer was a family man and good father, that doesn't mean he didn't deserve to be locked up.

4) i am sick of people hating the women of this show. the ones like charlie are considered boring and the ones like mimzy or velvette are considered annoying. characters like rosie or cherri are only given love in relation to alastor or angel, and don't get me started on the genderbend carmilla everyone liked more than the original. it's fine to not like a character but if the only characters you dislike are women im raising an eyebrow at you

5) i don't get radioapple 😬 ur so valid if you ship it, absolutely no hate but i don't get it

6) loser baby isn't even in my top 5 for songs ngl its a very sweet song and i loved the message and how they had a nice bonding moment... but i heard the line 'power bottom at rock bottom' and i just. cringed.

Hi! I saw your tags on a recent post about the great genderbending, and I have to ask: WHY? What prompted such a big change? (If you don't mind sharing)

Oh yeah it's no problem! I never even explained it here

Basically, as of September, all 3 of my WIPs had male protagonists. And I realized I reeeeally wanted a female protagonist (I'd had a WIP with one before but I never finished it).

I couldn't change Darius's gender because B&W is in its 3rd draft and also it would imply changing the gender of 2 other characters for it to still be gay. In the case of the Dystopia WIP, I really liked the protagonist's name and wanted to keep it bc "Cristover" sounds cool as hell.

So, it left "Devourer of Souls" for genderbending (no, I did not think of making a new WIP). It has a very small cast and it set off a chain reaction that ended in everyone getting genderbent except for Theo's brother. Because if Seth is a girl, Theo must also be a girl or their qpr wouldn't read as strongly bc people would go "omg straight couple". If Theo is a girl, Jane (previously Jack) must also be a girl because she's a clone of Theo. If they are both girls, the Goddess of Time must be one too because she makes her children in her image, which means all 3 goddesses got genderbent too. Flick is already a boy and a girl simultaneously, so they remained the same. Asha and Dora popped up later.

My original idea was that having a man (Seth) as a healer would be kinda subversive of how we usually associate certain fantasy roles with genders. He was a soft cottagecore boy. But then I realized: wouldn't it be more fun if all the healers were women, as one would expect, and Seth absolutely hated it? Instead of being nice, she became the angry, cynical, and lowkey obsessive protagonist we've come to know and love! Because angry women are very cool!

Anyway, sorry for the rant. But yeah, that's the gist of it.

does your mind ever boggle at the sheer amount of tv shows you watch? I had to sift through so many memories to come up with this list. anyway tagging whoever might want to play! @weaverhawk @blackwatervial @asterdust @saturnskyline @kerasines

1) KinnPorsche

My current obsession. Of course it has to go on here. I was in such a writing slump last summer: I had a million wips, but I’d stopped working on any of them for a few months (to be fair, that was partly because they got derailed by my newfound obsession with horror audio dramas, which I mention later in this post). Then I watched KPTS, and I’ve been writing consistently since then because the story and characters are so to my taste that it’s hard to believe any work of tv media could be so perfect for me. And I’ve made some great friends in this fandom; there are so many cool and funny people here. The memes are fantastic

2) Black Sails

There are other queer shows on this list, but this really is so important to me for its political and revolutionary themes, the variety of queer and polyamorous relationships and characters, and my childhood love of pirate stories. I don’t really know how to describe this show, but it moved me so much. I collected all four seasons in dvd this year because I want to keep it forever, and also because I don’t trust entertainment companies in 2023 to preserve shows online. Anyway Anne Bonny character of all time (there are so many characters of all time in this show)

3) Killjoys

I LOVE SCIFI, and if you love themes about revolution and fighting against oppressive regimes, this show is good for that. This show also gave me my favourite amoral lesbians ship in Delle Seyah and Aneela. It gave me queer models of family, including multiple characters parenting a child and forming a found family. Actually, found family is a big theme in general with Dutch and Johnny, whose relationship is really central to the show. Also this show is just genuinely fucking funny, it turns into a straight up comedy after season 1 when they found the tone they wanted to go with for the show

4) The Magnus Archives

Hey it’s the show that kicked off my horror obsession in 2022! I’d always enjoyed horror, but it’d been a casual thing prior to that. Maybe it’s the fact that the medium was still somewhat new to me, and I fell in love with it (I’d listened to a couple audio dramas before, but the habit hadn’t stuck; I mostly listened to nonfiction podcasts). Maybe it’s the fact that the show was queer, and I was very new to queer horror - specifically, horror that was queer on purpose, and explicitly so - not just subtext. The fic in this fandom is so fucking good, I had a blast last summer

5) SHL

This gets a shoutout for kicking off possibly the longest fandom brainrot I’ve ever had (we’ll see if KPTS will surpass it). It’s the fandom I’ve written the most for: I really can’t explain the hold it had on me in 2021. I’ve never felt so inspired to write. It also got me into participating in fandom projects, and I helped create two zines for the fandom

Also this is the show that got me really into genderbends and mommy kink lmao, enough to even write it

6) Luther

We’re reaching far into the formative shows of Scoop’s youth here. Luther and Alice are the blueprint of fucked up people in love/obsession with each other for me. You can draw a clear line from my love for Luther/Alice to Delle Seyah/Aneela to Wenzhou to VegasPete (and many, many other ships)

7) Story of Yanxi Palace

I love palace dramas so much. I watched this in 2020, and it was a delight. Wei Yingluo is in my top fictional characters ever: she’s clever, cunning, funny, and so vulnerable even though she doesn’t always let herself feel it. Also I wanted her to fuck all the women on that show, my god they had so much chemistry. The show is long, but really worth it

8) Schitt's Creek

This is the show I rewatch random episodes of when I don’t know what to watch, or when I need a laugh, when I need to watch something funny and sweet. The family relationships and friendships are really fantastic. Moira Rose is mother

Favourite Canonically non-binary characters

Bel Thorne. Bel is from the Vorkosingan Saga and appears in most of the so called 'admiral naismith' books. Bel is technically a third sex known as a herm (it's a actually good exploration of silver age/ new wave concept) so Bel is the mind boggling category of cis non-binary. It is a compentent captain of it's ship the Ariel and is flamboyant and has a strong sense of justice and is written in a way that doesn't feel forced. This a character that flirts with it's admiral at one moment and is ready to nuke a planet because they don't see it's crush as human. Oh and unlike most GNC and trans characters in 80s SF stories who die for the conforming and often cishet protagonists, by the end of the series Bel is happily married with Nichol it's above mentioned crush.

2. Stevonnie. A combination of protagonist Steven Universe and his friend/crush Connie Maheswaran (this show's lore is weird ok?), Stevonnie is referred to by they/them pronouns and the creators confirm this is because they are non-binary. Like most fusions on the show Stevonnie demonstrates the best of both Steven and Connie with Steven's love of life and spontaneity and Connie's sharp mind. Sadly I find their appearances are far and few between adn under utilized (it's telling that any kind of exploration of being codedly trans is in the comics and not the show itself). However until the introduction of Shep this was Steven Universe's only humanoid non-binary character and for the show's wide reach and accessible storytelling (for the most part), I have to give the crewiverse credit

3. Double Trouble. At first it seemed that Double Trouble was your standard scary shapeshifting alien was the scary trans predator trope, but as the show itself rolled out it became clear Double Trouble was so much more. Besides the classic of being conniving and flamboyant and whose favored form dressed in a corset not out of place at a staging of 'Rocky Horror' (I said what I said), Double Trouble is a hard worker whose love of theatre and dedication to the craft was amusing and refreshing. Based on the historical figure who was both trans and intersex, here D'eon is portrayed as androgynous and while not exactly historically accurate (the historical D'eon preferred to be seen as woman), I'm willing to be more forgiving than all the gratuitous genderbends of the fate series. Unlike most characters on this list D'eon is not the flamboyant and wise-cracking one but the calm serene one, letting Marie Antoinette or Astolfo fill that role and being what is ironically known as the straight man. Being one of the main servants in the Agartha quest they often have to go along with whatever zany scheme Astolfo dreams up all while both are pretending to be women, good stuff...

"tell me why episode 8 of Ouran High School was vile even by shoujo romance standards" I haven't read or watched Ouran but do tell...

I would need to rewatch Ouran High School to give a fair dissertation of it. My memory of it is just fuzzy enough that I am maybe giving it too much credit for overall progressiveness and maybe too little credit for the actual episode. So take this essaypost a bucket of salt.

Ouran High School Summary - a scholarship student accidentally breaks an expensive vase and has to join a school host club to pay it back. Genderbending ensues.

How I remember Ouran

Funny!

Unromantic, blunt, intelligent (actually intelligent not just the narrator lying to you), and distinct female protagonist. Do you know how rare these traits are?

Playing around with gender roles/expectations in a familiar, loving manner. Parodies and ribbing from people who have affection for or ties to queer culture

Probably a lot of non-japanese introduction to Takarazuka Theater, the all female theater troupe

Haruhi's likeable gay drag queen father

If it came out today you'd definitely see agenders and nonbinaries claiming Haruhi. her indifference and sometimes bafflement to gender is a significant part of her charm

Weirdo boundary overstepping fangirl representation!

Idk the twins profiting off twincest loving fujos was funny

Everyone in this school is a weirdo in some fashion, including the girls, and they're all great.

How I remember Episode 8

Beach ep

Typical beach creeps start creeping on the girls

Haruhi steps in and tries to protect the girls

Haruhi gets thrown off a cliff

Haruhi is saved and the REAL plot reveals itself: Haruhi is a WOMAN and must recognize her place as a WOMAN

Act 1 is Haruhi getting lectured by her harem for an excruciating length of time. She should not have tried to protect anyone because she is a girl. She absolutely should not have tried to argue with those men because she is a girl. There is a small point where she's asked "do you have secret martial arts powers? No? Then don't fight men who are stronger" but with all the "because you are a girl" pontificating, you can't help but question if a weakling guy attempting the same would receive this same lecture. The act ends with a furious Haruhi, a justice driven character, giving the silent treatment because literally no one cares whether her actions were just. That her friends think morality is dependent on gender.

Act 2: One of her friends feigns a rape attempt. To teach Haruhi men are stronger than women. Haruhi recognizes this is fake and thanks him for helping her understand the difference between men and women. Do I even need to say anything here.

Act 3: yeah it's not over, the writers punish Haruhi for being a largely strong, non-submissive female character by revealing she's afraid of thunder so we can see her curl into a ball, shiver, and cry for her mom. Luckily her strong male love interest is there to comfort her in her moment of weak, pathetic vulnerability. The end♥️

Problematic vs Vile

This episode features a lot of tropes they I don't personally like but normally give a pass because there is an audience who truly likes them. But normally these tropes are brief. Normally you don't linger on them. Normally they are not plot drivers. And normally they're not in shows with recurring themes that say man, fuck gender expectations

The heroine attempting to rescue someone on an impulse, only to fail and be protected herself? Then lectured by her love interest for being stupid and dangerous? This is a popular trope. People like it. They like the idea of doing the right thing, of being saved, of a stronger person disciplining them a little while implying they'll always protect them. But that lecture is usually quick! The love interest doesn't spend time trying to convince her she was stupid, to convince her she needs protecting, to convince her she is genetically incapable of helping others!

Attempted rape, like it or not, is a popular trope. Maybe it's because women have been brainwashed into thinking it's bad to show sexual interest, maybe it's the allure of driving someone mad with lust, maybe people just find dub/noncon hot. None of these justifications apply here. Like there is problematic because you're into a kink and there's "this character is pretending to sexually assault their friend solely because she does not fear men enough and he hopes this will curb her sense of justice enough so she never tries to stand up to men again. And she thanks him for it." He is not overpowered by lust. He did not plan to go through with it. Our heroine is weak from food poisoning. It's...unique.

A heroine having a phobia (especially of thunder in manga? Not sure what that's about) is both a trope and also just a normal character thing. A strong, seemingly fearless character revealing a somewhat embarrassing vulnerability in front of the person they trust the most? This is a huge fantasy that I'm fairly certain is equally popular with men. who doesn't crave someone they can safely expose all their weaknesses to? Who will love the parts you despise about yourself?

It's just that these scenes are normally not the book end of a campaign to your inherent patheticness. Your embarrassing fears are not usually meant to underline that this is what you are, know your place. Haruhi was too stupid to hold the gender appropriate amount of fear for men, so she is punished and put back into the correct role of a quivering female Who Must Be Protected. Her character arc is fairly fearless person who sometimes gets into fights she can't handle to...i don't even know. I don't think her character was significantly different after this.

That is why episode eight is bad even by problematic shojo standards and vile in context of the actual anime.
