Casting Spells: Using the Power of The Moon

Spell casting is more art than science, and even the most gifted Magickal Practitioner will not be successful every time.

Before you can benefit from the Moon’s power, you need to know the different energies given off by the Moon’s phases.

The moon cycles every 28 days (about 4 weeks) from New to Full to New again. The phases of the Lunar Cycle listed in order consists of New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Last Quarter, Waning Crescent until we have a new, New Moon.

The period between New and Full represents growth while the moon is waxing or growing. During the waxing moon phase, the gravitational pull and angle with the sun transitions to reflect more light each day.

The period between Full and New is called waning or disseminating. When the moon is waning, the night sky is getting darker and darker as less light reflects on the moon.

June 17th 2021; The First Quarter Moon is in Virgo. 

The First Quarter is considered the growth period of the moon cycle. The intentions we previously set will begin to take shape.  Take it easy on yourself during this time, plans tend to develop easily, but we can often bite off more than we can chew so it is important to create a balance between taking action and overdoing it. This is a period for growth where we begin to see the fruits of the intentions we set during the new moon.

With the moon in Virgo, we find ourselves secure and at peace when we have organization, detailed schedules, lists, and utter perfection. With the square to the sun, we find that what we want and what we need aren’t quite in alignment, creating our first obstacle.  You may find yourself with some chaos over the next week in which you’ll have to find perfection in the mess and organize your chaos. It is okay to ask for help, or to change your perspective! Take things slow and do things one by one. Look below the surface and get specific. Ignore what's going on out there - focus on your task.
