I rewatched jatp today because I needed a comfort show, and as much immeasurable joy it brings me (which is a lot my plan totally worked), I am also filled with renewed rage at the absolute disservice Netflix did to all of these actors, creators and most of all fans. I've fallen out of the fandom recently but god it was like watching for the first time again. I genuinely think I teared up in every episode, both sad and happy and it frustrates me that I still feel helpless about a show that was wrongly thrown in the bin. A lot of people depended on this show and a whole lot of good came out of it so it just all sucks. Anyway that's my rant over. Miss them and their potential.

Description: Just read it.
Warnings: ANGST, um... ANGST, and ANGST. Mentions of pregnancy, mentions of death, mild swearing. Probably a lot of typos, I’m editing it, but I wrote this right when I saw the request.
Use of JATP scenes go to the producers and such, and the song that is used in this story is “This Town” by Niall Horan (I changed some of the words, and rearranged the format of it)
S/N = Sons Name
BF/N = Boyfriends Name
I cried writing this... Enjoy.

+This Town+
“Luke!” Y/N shrieks when he picks her up by her waist, twirling them around. “Put me down.” He chuckles, setting her down gently.
“How did we do?” he asks. “More importantly--” he clicks his tongue, “--how did I do?” Taking her hands into his, he flashes her a big smile.
She tilts her head, giving him a pointed look. “You know what I’m going to say to that.” She leans forward a little with a small smirk on her face. “You were amazing, and everyone is going to see that tonight.” She presses her lips firmly on his, him returning the gesture by cupping the side of her face to deepen it.
Though it didn’t last long, when they both pulled away the feeling still lingered. “Well, the guys and I are going to get some food, do you want to join us?” He takes a step closer to her, not being able to let her go.
“Are you guys going to that hot dog place again? The one with the car?” she questions, a look of disgust on her face. “I’ll pass.”
He puts on a big pout. “Alright,” he mumbles, disappointed. “Your appetite has been really strange lately.”
Alex quickly comes over, throwing an arm around Y/N’s shoulder. “Are you coming, or what?” he asks Luke, no doubt overhearing Y/N’s answer.
A small groan comes from Luke. “Are you sure you don’t want to come?” he repeats to Y/N. “I’m gonna miss you,” he claims.
“I’ll see you tonight, babe.” She lets out a giggle, glancing at Alex whose expression is most likely unidentifiable to Luke, but to Y/N, she knew exactly what he was thinking. “And I have something to tell you tonight.”
Luke raises an eyebrow towards her. With a glimpse towards Alex he says, “Is it good or bad?”
She purses her lips, taking a moment to come up with an answer. “Depends…”
“Well, then I’ll be counting the minutes.”
Alex moves away from the couple to give Luke space for him to kiss her left temple. “Be careful out there, alright?” She wraps her arms around him tightly.
“I will,” he promises. “You worry too much.”
She shakes her head. “Only for you.”
“I heard that!” Alex calls out.
“You know I love you too Alex,” she says. “Now go be boys, with your… Interesting food cravings.” Nudging Luke, he hesitantly walks away, holding her hand until he’s forced to let go.
“I’ll be back as soon as I can,” Luke assures.
“I’ll hold you to it!” With one last wave, they leave with no knowledge of what’s to come.
Julie sighs walking into the studio. “We’re sorry,” Reggie sings, popping out from behind Luke.
“So sorry,” Alex joins, popping out on the other side.
“We’re so super-duper, crazy, sorry,” the boys all harmonize at the end, Luke kneeling down on one knee.
“In case you missed it, we’re really sorry,” Reggie adds.
“Yeah. I… I got that part,” Julie replies, her tone short.
“We’ve been here for, like, three hours,” Alex mentions, Reggie high-fiving him.
Luke nods. “Yup.” He goes to stand up. “We almost sang to your little brother.”
“He comes in here a lot,” Reggie observed. “Mainly to use the bathroom.” He gestures behind him.
“Yeah, it’s not our favorite part of the day,” Alex explains.
“But, Julie, it wasn’t okay that we flaked out on the dance last night,” Luke joins, going back to the real problem. “We know we let you down.”
“Yeah, and none of us wanted to disappoint you,” Alex states. “You’re the best thing that’s happened to us, since we became ghosts.”
“So, in hopes that you’ll rejoin the band.” A slow smile creeps up on Luke’s face, him taking a dramatic step towards her. He hands her a piece of paper that he’s been holding. “We booked a new gig.”
“A mega important, life-changing gig,” Reggie remarks in the background.
Julie analyzes the flier. “Oh, okay, check it out. Tons of managers go here to listen to new bands,” Luke starts. “All we gotta do is blow them all away, and we’re living the dream.”
“So, this means a lot to you, huh?” Julie asks, still holding her harsh tone. “Kind of how playing in front of my whole entire school meant a lot to me?”
“Sounds like sarcasm,” Reggie says, confused. He gasps, turning to Alex. “I’m starting to think our plan isn’t working.”
“Look, we know we messed up,” Alex reassures.
“But we need you in the band,” Luke affirms.
“Of course you do,” Julie begins. “Because without me no one can see you guys playing.” She looks up towards the ceiling. “You know I thought that the music that we were writing was special, but you’re too obsessed with your past to even care,” she accuses, pointing towards Luke.
“I do care,” he argues. “Our band has a real chance at greatness, I’m not gonna let that get away from us again.”
“Uh-huh, right. So, then why did you bail on me to get back at Trevor?” she interrogates. “I’ll tell you why…” she pauses. “‘Cause there’s only one thing you care about, and that’s yourself.” She storms off, Luke following her by only a few steps.
“Dude, she didn’t mean that,” Alex asserts.
Luke looks back at him before poofing away. “Where’s he going?” Reggie asks.
“Where do you think? Remember what today is?” Alex turns towards Reggie, realization taking over his features.
Alex and Reggie both poof into Julie’s house to see her reading on the couch. “Hey… Uh, do you got a second?” Alex stuffs his hands into his pockets.
Julie sighs, not giving them a verbal response. Re-situating herself on the couch. “Oh my gosh, she can’t see us anymore!” Reggie whisper-yells. Alex gives him a blank stare, lasting for a little longer than a second. “Oh, right.” Reggie shrugs.
Alex sits on the arm of the couch. “Julie, please,” he begs.
Julie allowed herself to look up at him. “I already told you that I’m done with the band.”
“Yeah, we know, all right?” He flips his hair out of his face. “But, before you decide that forever we just… We wanted you to know that Luke isn’t as selfish as you think.”
“Yeah, you’ve got him all wrong,” Julie scoffs, shaking her head at Reggie’s statement.
“Remember those two songs you found?” Alex asks. “‘Unsaid Emily’, and ‘This Town’.” Julie nods once slowly. “Can we at least show you who one of those songs is about?”
She looks towards Reggie then back at Alex.
Soon all three of them find themselves behind a tree by a small house. They watch Luke sit on one of the counters, hugging his knees to his chest. And two older people. “So, Emily is his mom?” Julie asks.
“Yeah,” Alex confirms. “Yeah, Luke comes here a lot… He thinks we don’t know but… We’ve been following him.” They all watch Luke from afar, his red eyes as he follows the two adults walking around.
“All he does is hang out like this, and watch them,” Reggie informs. “They never really do anything though.”
The pair sets down a cake. “They’re having cake, that’s something.” Julie crosses her arms, trying to make sense of the situation.
“It’s a… It’s a birthday cake.” Reggie looks over at her. “For Luke.”
“I never knew Luke was hurting this much,” Julie admits.
“Yeah, it’s even worse because when he died he… Left on bad terms,” Alex pauses. “You know, his parents didn’t want their 17-year old in a rock band so… He just left.” He sighs. “He never got the chance to make it up to them.”
Just at that moment a silver car pulls in. Julie ducking down to hide herself. “Well, that’s new,” Reggie tries to peek over at the car to see who’s inside.
“Wait!” A woman who looked about early forties hops out from the passenger seat. “S/N get out of the car, we’re gonna miss your father’s birthday.”
“Wait a minute…” Alex stands up taller, getting a good look at the girl’s face. “It can’t be,” he whispers.
“Sorry!” S/N replies, holding his hands up in defense. “Not my fault dad gave me such good genes, they need to be taken care of.”
Y/N laughs, guiding him away from the car. “Spoken like a true Patterson.”
“Y/N?” Reggie questions.
“Y/N?” Julie repeats quietly, confused.
“The other song that you found--”
“That’s the girl from the photo.” Julie’s eyes widened, remembering.
“Who’s this?” Julie asks, showing a polaroid picture to Luke. It was him and a girl. “You look so happy in it.” She scans both of their faces, huge smiles covering them.
He looks at it, almost becoming frozen. “That’s--” he rips the photo out of her hands. “--that’s nobody,” he lies, tucking the photo back into the song book, in between two pages one of them reading what Julie caught ‘This Town’.
“Sorry, we’re late,” Y/N says, walking into the house.
Luke perks up. “Y/N?” he whispers.
Y/N’s movements falter, as she holds a hand up to her ear. “Did one of you say my name?” she asks, everyone giving her a confused glance.
“No, honey,” Emily says. Her and Mitch going over to Y/N and S/N “How are you doing today? Where’s Bf/N?” Emily asks the last part quietly.
Y/N shrugs. “Work,” she chokes out. “And…” She shrugs. “This day is always hard. Especially for S/N even if he shows it in a weird way.”
“It really is you,” Luke whispers, walking up to get as close as he could, without phasing through her. He noticed just how much she’s grown, but she was still so beautiful to him.
“Who’s the guy?” Julie asks Alex, and Reggie.
Alex’s once questionable expression drops. “I think I know.” They both look at him. He gulps slightly. “That night, we were going to play, Y/N… She was going to tell Luke that she was um…” The look on his face was enough to finish his sentence.
“Luke’s a father?!” Reggie exclaims.
“Shhh!” Julie and Alex shush him quickly before Luke could possibly hear.
“I knew, because she told me,” Alex explains. “I helped her plan out this whole thing, I went to every doctor’s appointment with her, she was so scared.” He looks at the young boy. “I almost forgot.” He furrowed his eyebrows.
“S/N Patterson, don’t you dare start eating that cake, yet,” Y/N warns. “We need to blow out the candles first.”
Luke slowly walks over to a wall of pictures, his nonexistent breath getting caught in his throat. He turns back to look at the young man who looked exactly like him. Same floppy hair, same colored eyes, it was like looking in a mirror. A tear fell down his face as he stared at the picture in front of him. The picture he dreaded to see at this time.
The picture showed Y/N and Luke on his birthday many years ago, he believed it was his fifteenth birthday, Y/N was already sixteen, but they wore matching birthday hats as the story behind the picture was so much more than them holding a guitar. The one that laid beside him was what he’d call his lucky acoustic 6-string, and it was a guitar she bought him. While she held her own.
“Teach me your ways,” Y/N jokes as she watches Luke’s riff. “How are you so good?”
He shrugs. “C’mon, I’ll show you ‘my ways’,” he mocks her voice, retrieving a giggle from her. “So, put your pointer finger there.” She does so. “Then your middle finger there, and then your ring finger here.” She begins to struggle. “Hold on.” He sets down his guitar, making sure it doesn’t fall. Gently taking her hand into his, he guides her fingers to place correctly on the strings. “There you go…” He smiles at her, both realizing how close they were to each other.
“You two, say ‘cheese’! Emily holds up the camera, both of them snapping out of their daze.
“Cheese!”
A soft sound of a guitar fills his ears, as he recalls the lyrics he wrote not too long ago. “Waking up to kiss you and nobody's there, the smell of your perfume still stuck in the air… It's hard,” he begins to sing. It felt like time stopped moving for him, making sure to soak in every photo. “Yesterday I thought I saw your shadow running 'round, it's funny how things never change in this old town… So far… From the stars.” Going slower when a small boy starts to appear. “And I want to tell you everything, the words I never got to say the first time around… And I remember everything, from when we were the children playing in this fairground… Wish I was there with you now…” Coming to an abrupt halt when he sees a birth certificate S/N Lucas Patterson.
He turns around to watch the girl he loved, dance with a boy he had never met, but felt like he knew forever. Music softly playing in the background.
“If the whole world was watching I'd still dance with you, drive highways and byways to be there with you. Over and over the only truth… Everything comes back to you… Mmmmm.” He slowly walks back towards his family. It was clear Y/N and S/N found the light in the situation, Y/N telling stories from the past.
“What about the story of how you two made me?” S/N suggests.
Y/N scoffs whacking S/N in the arm. “I swear--gets his mouth from his father.” This causes a chuckle from everyone. “Such a troublemaker,” she murmurs.
“So, when are you and BF/N getting married? I swear you two have been engaged forever,” Mitch says.
Y/N looks down at her engagement ring, biting her lip. “Um…” She slowly slides it off her finger. “Don’t know.” She sets it in her bag.
“I wonder if you moved on with someone new, in the places that we kissed with his arms around you… It's so hard… So hard.” He kneels down next to where she is sitting, suddenly her smile slowly fading. “You still make me nervous when you walk in the room. Them butterflies—they come alive when I'm next to you… Over and over the only truth… Everything comes back to you.”
Y/N sighs. “Are we going to light this candle or what?” She tries to joke to lighten the mood, but everyone can see something took over her. A sadness that clogged her light.
“You do the honors,” Emily says, handing her the lighter.
Y/N forms her lips into a tight smile, taking it from her hands. It was obvious she was trying to hold back tears, gripping on S/N’s hand as she lit the simple orange candle that sits on top of the chocolate cake. Luke poofs to be in front of her. “And I know that it's wrong… That I can't move on, but there's something 'bout you.” He blows out the candle before anyone else does, everyone looks around, but Y/N, she looks straight up at him. His eyes widened a little when he met hers, she wasn’t staring through him, she was staring at him.
“Are you okay, sweetie?” Emily asks.
“Mom?” S/N calls out.
Y/N shakes her head, with a soft smile. “I’m okay.” She looks at Luke once again, lighting the candle. “S/N, how about you make a wish for your father,” she suggests.
With one nod, they all lean over to blow the candle out. “'Cause if the whole world was watching I'd still dance with you…. Drive highways and byways to be there with you… Over and over the only truth…. Everything comes back to you.”
“What did you wish for, for him?” Y/N asks.
“Well, if I say it, then it won’t come true,” S/N and Luke say at the same time. It was what he would say at every birthday when Y/N would ask.
She lets out a breathless chuckle. “Spoken like a true Patterson.”
“You still make me nervous when you walk in the room… Them butterflies—they come alive when I'm next to you… Over and over the only truth… Everything comes back to you… Mmmm… Everything comes back to you… Mmmm.”
And with that he poofs away, Y/N looking at the spot he once was at. “Are you sure you’re okay, mom?” S/N asks, worried.
She turns to meet his eyes, flashbacks coming back to her.
“Where are the boys? They should be back by now.” Y/N paces back and forth. “Have you heard from them, Bobby?”
He shrugs, shaking his head. “No, I haven’t, I haven’t gotten a call from them.”
“Something is wrong--”
“Now, Y/N we can’t make any assumptions, yet.” Bobby grabs ahold of her shoulders to steady her. “They’ll be fine.”
“But, they would never be this late, they’re performing so soon, they’re going to be letting people in any moment…” She leans forward, making sure he was listening. “It’s not like them,” she says, seriously.
“Have you tried calling them?” Bobby asks.
“No answer,” she replies, when suddenly Luke’s name pops up on her flip phone. “Luke! I have been worried sick, where are you? The show is about to--”
“Is this Y/N L/N?” a deep male voice asks.
Taken aback by this Y/N let’s out a cautious ‘yes’.
“This is the Los Angeles hospital, and it seems as though you were on the emergency contact list for Luke Patterson.” Her heart beats loudly out of her chest. “I’m sorry to inform you of this but…”
The phone slips out of her hand, having it fall to the floor. “Y/N? Y/N what’s wrong?” Bobby runs over to her, concerned. “You gotta talk to me here.”
“They’re gone,” she whispers. Tears fell down viciously from her eyes. “They’re gone,” she sobs. “I should’ve gone with them!” she pauses. “I should’ve stopped them, I should’ve done something!”
“Y/N you’re not making any sense.”
“They’re dead, Bobby!” she screams, everyone looking over at her in fear.
“Wh-what?”
“I have to go, I have to go to the hospital, I have to call Emily, I have to--” she began to feel sick, believing this was one sort of twisted nightmare.
“But, what about the show?” Y/N sends Bobby a glare.
“That’s what you care about?!” she shouts. “That’s all you care about right now?! Who gives fuck about that?” She waves it off. “This--means nothing to me without the others,” she spits through her teeth.
“Mom?” S/N calls out.
“Well.” She stands up, tugging at her clothes. “We should get going now…” Wiping away the tears she didn’t know were there, she gathers her stuff. “We’ll talk soon, okay?” She hugs Emily tightly, switching with S/N to hug Mitch. “Hang in there for us.”
“We should be telling that to you,” Emily whispers, looking at the girl with sad eyes. “You grew up too fast.”
“Time seems to have a way of getting ahead of you.”
“Marching on proud, turn it up loud,” Julie sings, as she presses the keys on the piano. “‘Cause now we know what we’re worth--”
Luke poofs into the chair that sits across from where Julie is. “Whoa Julie!” Luke stands up immediately.
She looks at him, with her head slightly tilted. “Get your guitar, we got work to do,” she orders.
Luke glances at the guys, speechless. He chuckles, moving to grab his guitar. He strides over to Julie. “What made you come back?”
“I realized how important music is to all of us,” she explains. “And we’ve lost so much already… We can’t lose this too.”
He nods a little. “Thanks,” he says, sincerely. “Alright boss, where we at?” He moves backwards
She breathes out a laugh. “Oh, and by the way… Happy birthday.” He raises an eyebrow towards the boys, looking back at her. She smiles. “Let’s go from the pre-chorus.”
“One, two, three, four!” Alex counts in.
Julie glances behind Luke, a light blue box sitting up on the piano. The best thing about having ghosts as friends is that they can follow people without the whole ‘I’m gonna call the cops’ problem.
So, as the days went by, it was bad enough to go behind his back and give ‘Unsaid Emily' to his mom, but then to find out about the boys having to cross over, she knew it needed to be done. “Hello,” Y/N answers, opening the door.
“Hi.” Julie waves. “Um… You wouldn’t happen to be Y/N L/N, would you?”
She laughs. “Depends on who’s asking,” she jokes. “Yes, I’m Y/N.” She holds out her hand for Julie to shake. “And who might you be?”
“Oh Julie!” She accepts the handshake, holding the light blue box she found in her free hand.
“Nice to meet you Julie, and what brings you here?” Y/N smiles towards the young girl.
Julie moves the box to show Y/N. “I think this belongs to you.”
Y/N stares down at it, before looking around. “You live in that old house, don’t you?” she asks. Julie doesn’t respond, resorting to a warm smile. “Um…” Y/N looks back into her house. “Come in.”
“Who’s this?” A man in a business suit walks out into the living room. “Why is there a young girl in the house?”
“This is Julie,” Y/N introduces.
“And Luke would like to know what Julie is doing here.” Julie jumps, alarming Y/N beside her.
His eyes held anger. “Look, I was okay with you giving the song to my mom, but this…” His voice fades off, when he looks at the man.
“Oh, a crazy young girl in the house. That’s safe,” the man mumbles.
Y/N rolls her eyes. “This is my boyfriend, BF/N.”
“Fiance,” BF/N corrects. “And I have to get to work.”
Y/N jolts a little. “Oh, alright, well I’ll see you--And he’s gone.” She throws her hands up with a laugh. “A grumpy one that is,” she jokes. “So, about this box…” She takes it from Julie’s hands. “You found this in a backpack, didn’t you?”
“You remember what’s in there?” Julie asks.
“How’s that studio doing? Has it fallen apart, yet? It’s not being destroyed, is it?” Worry fills her.
“No!” Julie abruptly exclaims. “No, no, it’s just I got curious and started looking, and I’ve been giving people back some of the stuff I found of theirs.”
“Oh,” Y/N whispers. “Julie and the Phantoms,” she suddenly says.
“What?” Julie, and Luke’s heart drops.
“I knew I recognized you--yeah, my son, he's a music teacher at an elementary school, uses your music as an example a lot,” she explains. “Look, I’m not going to go questioning you about it, but I know.”
“You do?” Julie asks, confused.
Y/N doesn’t answer, opening up the box. “I was going to give him this present at The Orpheum.”
Luke narrows his eyes, walking up to her, to look inside.
“It was how I was going to tell him I was pregnant, guess plans didn’t go the way I wanted it to.” She shrugs. “But, I know he knows, and that’s all I can ever ask for. S/N, who’s my son, took upon himself to follow his father’s footsteps--not including the hotdogs, which we banned in our house.” She could feel the tears building in her eyes. “It was hard, suing a company, Bobby--Or should I say Trevor Wilson becoming famous off of Luke’s songs, and having to go through raising a child mostly alone takes a toll on you. But, here I am.”
“I also found these.” Julie hands her a photo, and a sheet of paper.
Y/N laughs loudly. “This picture! I remember this photo.” Luke smiles a little when she does, and the fact she remembers the memory. “Sunset Curve had just booked their first gig, and this photo was taken after the performance. I remember him that day like it was yesterday, you could’ve sworn he had like fifty energy drinks, but that was just Luke.”
Julie lets out a small laugh. “How did you do it?”
Y/N looks up in alarm. Luke stays as quiet as possible, his eyes checking out every area of this house she now calls home. “Do what?”
“Move on?”
Y/N was shocked to hear those words come out of Julie’s mouth. “Move on?” She raises an eyebrow. “I never moved on. How could I? I still think about him every morning, day, and night, with every song I listen to, with every move I make, with every breath I take, all I can remember is the time I spent with him,” she pauses. “There’s no such thing as moving on when it comes to him, I can only just take him with me.” She picks up the piece of paper. “I knew it,” she whispers, reading over the words.
“What is it?” Julie asks.
“'Cause if the whole world was watching I'd still dance with you. Drive highways and byways to be there with you… Over and over the only truth...Everything comes back to you,” Y/N sings, Luke looking at her with awe. He always loved her singing voice despite her negative thoughts over it, but that wasn’t the reason he was so taken aback. “You still make me nervous when you walk in the room. Them butterflies—they come alive when I'm next to you… Over and over the only truth… Everything comes back to you… Mmmm… Everything comes back to you… Mmmm.”
“She really did hear me,” he whispers. Julie looks at him, making Y/N turn to look beside her. “But, she can’t see me.” He frowns.
Y/N laughs. “I was the believer,” she admits. “In ghosts and all of that. The boys made fun of me, besides Alex, Alex and I would make conspiracies about it, while Luke and Reggie would try to scare us, Bobby was the only one who’d scream.” She sits down on the couch, Luke sitting down beside her, Julie sitting across from her on a chair. “I remember this one time! When Luke accidentally hit me with his guitar, and he felt so bad, he got me at least a dozen daisies, and other flowers. And my family and I--we had separate cookie jars, because we have different opinions, and of course Luke always had to be eating out of mine. I would get so angry with him, and I would chase him around. Then I would feel bad when he’d fall. So, I would feed him cookies because he claimed his hands hurt.” She rolls her eyes.
Luke wipes away the tears that he couldn’t hold back. Sniffles, and small sobs escaping.
Y/N allows her own tears to fall. “I miss him.”
“I miss you too.” His voice barely audible, but Y/N heard it loud and clear.

An Inexplicable Wonder | One Shot (Charlie Gillespie x Reader)
A/N: Hello beautiful people! Here is a request where the reader shocks Charles and the rest of JATP with her killer voice. This was also inspired by that one time Madi roasted Charlie for singing the wrong part of Perfect Harmony lol. Enjoy!!
Word count: 2.1k
Warnings: typos, hella FLUFF
Masterlist
||||||
You didn’t think you would be able to visit him on set; filming season 2 of JATP during the busy season of your work was not ideal at all. Both you and Charlie were looking forward to some time together, especially since you had only just started dating three months before the start of filming, but the universe thought differently. Not the best situation for a new relationship.
But when you cashed in some time off, it was almost scary how fast you planned a surprise visit to the JATP set. After coordinating with none other than his beloved roommate Owen Joyner himself, your arrival on set went unnoticed by your boyfriend. Then again, he can be oblivious at times so you definitely used that to your advantage as you skillfully dodged the daily FaceTime call and texts.
Charlie’s face when your face appeared out of video village when the filming was over would go down as one of the best moments in your life. He had a legit comical reaction - visceral gasp, hazel eyes shot wide open, unhinged jaw, and frozen in mid walk at the sight of you. You only had time to hope that someone took a picture of Charlie before he barreled you down. He encompasses you wholly, strong arms wrapping around your figure in shock and unbridled happiness. Both of your chest heave with relief as you nuzzle into him. The tighter he held you, the more you felt safe and at peace - the more you felt like you were home.
“H-how? I-I thought you had work? Wha-what?” He feels more than he hears you chuckle against him.
“I had a few days off,” you pull back just to see his face, “and I really missed Madison.”
Your teasing earns a scoff but then is cut short when he answers with a searing kiss. It was brimming with tenderness, reminding you of what you’ve been missing for the past month. His lips familiarize themselves with your lips, congratulating you for making it through your first long distance period. The kiss was revitalizing - a perfect end to a perfect surprise.
“Hi,” you finally greet through one of the deep exhales you let out while trying to catch your breath.
“Hi,” he softly replies, caressing your face with both his hands. His eyes were positively twinkling as he soaks you in. “Missed you.”
“Missed you too.”
Your tender reunion is interrupted by a loud call of your name. When you both turn to the noise, your bodies are almost knocked over by the sheer force of Madi, Owen, and Jeremy throwing their arms around you. Shouts of surprise surround you, and Charlie hears you giggle into his ear at all the commotion.
“Owen,” I call out after we broke apart, “thank you for helping me out.”
“You helped bring Y/N here?” Charlie asks. When Owen excitedly nods, Charlie tackles him with glee. All you can do is watch them do their thing while giving Madison her own hug.
“How you doing miss Madi?”
“Good! Just filming a few scenes with Savannah today. Season 2 is finally letting us have a little more fun with each other. I’m so happy you’re here!”
“Me too. I missed y’all so much!”
A cheerful Charlie rejoins you along with the other boys and you all fall into conversation with each other. As much as he wanted to just whisk you away for the small amount of time he has in between scenes, he loves how much you get along with his friends. You’ve met them just a few times before, but FaceTime allowed you to get to know each of them better in the month you’ve been separated.
Even Kenny joins into the conversation, easily adding his own jokes before informing everyone that they’re starting to be film again. You give him your thanks again for letting you come to set and surprise your boyfriend. He waves you off with a small smile and beckons you back to video village.
Watching your boyfriend do his thing was a truly a gift. This role was made for him. His carefully thought out mannerisms, passionate tone, and expressive gestures brought so much energy to the scene and you were humbled that you could witness it. You tell him just as much when they break for a little longer. A natural blush paints his face after your praise and you give him a kiss on the cheek.
“What else do you have to do today?” You ask curiously.
“We’re filming that one emotional scene next. It’s the one I told you about last weekend. They just told us they’re gonna add a nice piano version of ‘Edge of Great’ to the background and it sounds so good!” Charlie shares.
“That’s so cool. I can’t wait to see you kill it.”
The rest of them come and sit with you two, Savannah excitedly giving you a hug that you energetically return. You catch up with her, getting lost in your own little world. Although you were partaking in separate conversation, Charlie’s presence was, well, present. You felt his arm stretch across the back of your chair, ending with his fingers mindlessly moving up and down your shoulder. Likewise, you had a hand on his knee. The both of you were unconsciously reminding each other that you were actually here with him. When you pat his leg after laughing at whatever Savannah was saying, he jumped at the sudden movement but appreciated it all the same.
At one point, Charlie starts singing ‘Edge of Great’ under his breath. It probably got stuck in his head from hearing that piano version earlier. He realizes the hasn’t sang that song in so long, and gladly got into it. With the acoustic guitar that never leaves his side outside of filming, he accompanies his singing with the corresponding chords, the light strumming only bringing out the richness in his melodic voice. You tried your best to stay focused on your own conversation, but it was hard when you hear his sweet voice through the open air instead of through the phone.
“Charlie those are the wrong words.” Everyone turns to Madi who interrupted his mindless singing.
“What? I sang it right!” Charlie exclaims and then starts singing again, “We all make mistakes, but they’re just stepping stones, to take us where we wanna go it’s never straight. I believe-“
“No bubs thats wrong,” you say before anyone else could speak up. “You forgot some of the words.”
You started to sing the verse - more or less melodically speaking it instead of singing it, but staying in tune all the same. You look at your boyfriend straight in the eyes while you do it, gauging if he finally registers the missing words. If he realizes that he was wrong, he doesn’t show it. Instead his expression is one of shock as soon as you continue to sing his whole verse.
“That was right, right?” You ask him after you finish the last note. He remains shocked and speechless, unable to answer your question because he’s in awe of your voice. The beautiful voice of his beautiful girlfriend.
Not wanting to deal with another second of prolonged silence, you turn to Madi for confirmation only to find her matching expression of shock - eyebrows furrowed, head tilted, mouth agape, and looking back and forth between you and Charlie.
“Um what? Uh, hello, you can sing girl!” Madi exclaims, “Charles did you know about her voice?” He shakes his head fervently.
You’re able to take in everyone else’s reaction and see them all have similar ones to Madi and Charlie. Your face warms up from all the attention, used to the focus typically being on your boyfriend’s talents and not your own.
“Keep singing!” Savannah demands giddily.
“No, I’m good,” you say suddenly growing shy in the spotlight. All you wanted to do was prove your boyfriend wrong and tease him about it, but now is not the time for that anymore.
“Come on, sing!” Owen echoes, “if you don’t keep going, I’ll ban you from our apartment,” he jokingly threatens.
“I’ll sing with you,” Charlie says with encouraging eyes, “I’ll even sing it right this time.”
Not even able to say no to his begging eyes and charming smirk, you start singing Madi’s harmony. You thought you would succumb to the nerves of singing in front of actual singers, but Charlie’s carefree smile takes all of your attention. It’s like it has powers, having the ability to make the rest of the world drop away until there’s only the sound of your voices.
As you both continue to sing the song, you realize that the meaning of it doesn’t get lost on you. With every whoop coming from your audience to your harmony with Charlie, it felt like you were on the edge of something great. You’ve always loved his voice and it fills you with joy to know that he feels the same about yours. Now you both have another thing with each other, as you physically and emotionally get closer with every passing lyric. It was magical.
When you reach the last part of the song, you didn’t even notice the words coming out of your mouth. Charlie’s eyes were hypnotic, effortlessly drawing you in along with the soft timbre of his voice. The clapping and cheering makes you jump and hit your hand against the guitar sitting on Charlie’s lap.
“OKAY THAT WAS CRAZY GOOD!” Madi yells. You hide your grateful smile behind Charlie’s shoulder when you notice her pointing her phone at the two of you indicating that she had been recording the whole thing. Everyone else echoed her praise and you felt like you were on fire. You let out a sigh of relief when the cast were called back to film. They reluctantly quiet down and start to leave, not before leaving a round of compliments that left you blubbering.
Charlie remains rooted in his chair, never once looking away from you. He knew that you were drowning under the praise of his friends, but he couldn’t be bothered to stop them because you absolutely deserved all of it.
Even though you haven’t been dating long, he already knows the truth in his heart. He loves you - simple as that. He was starting to love you just a month into dating, but he knew for sure when you consistently brought him peace and happiness even when it was from miles away and through the phone. The saying ‘distance makes the heart grow fonder’ was never truer than it was now. His love for you surged when he saw you when he least expected it, his feet dragging him to you before he could even register it. He felt as though he could almost pass out from the amount of love surging through him, especially when he hears your beautiful voice, but when you sang with him, Charlie realizes that this is what paradise felt like. And it was all from the humble girl sitting right next to him.
“How come I never knew you had a voice like that?” He asks with wonder in his tone. He grabs your hand when he sees you start fiddling with your shirt.
“I don’t know, I don’t exactly want to embarrass myself in front of an actual singer and it’s never been brought up. I’m not too upfront about singing if you haven’t noticed,” you admit sheepishly. He looks back at all the times you were driving with him and not once did he remember you belting along with him. Instead, he remembers your playful smile and breathless laughter.
“Well I’m never gonna do karaoke or road trips without you and your angelic voice ever again,” Charlie declares. He hears Owen calling him in the distance and sighs while getting up. You laugh at his childlike antics and stand with him, immediately taking a deep breath when he wraps his arms around your waist.
And just like that, you were back in the space where everything else just melted away. Your heart stutters at the soft look he was giving you. Barely swaying back and forth, you feel calm for the first time since you first arrived to set.
“You’re just full of surprises, aren’t you?” Charlie chuckles as he tightens his grip around you.
“I sure am,” you laugh with him. Your smile never disappears even when he brings his lips down on yours. He can’t even be mad that he can’t kiss you properly, wearing a matching smile when he pulls away.
“What else are you hiding?” He teases before dropping another kiss to your lips. His heart races at your next words, not believing that you were actually his to learn and love.
“You’ll just have to find out.”

Dog person - Harry Hook x reader - Oneshot
Tumblr media Tumblr media
=
Harry wasn’t a dog person, he was more a cat person, cats were clean, kept to themselves, hunted for their own food, and didn’t roll in mud at the first chance they got.
Gil had insisted that since Harry had never met a dog how could he say he didn’t like them? Harry knew he liked cats, so why would he like dogs?
Well, now Harry was in Auradon, where dogs were and…
Well…Harry ain’t a dog person but wow that person walking their dog was really cute and holy shit the dog looked at him what was he-oh shit. Harry took a sudden step back as the large grey and white Pitbull pulled their very cute owner towards Harry with a loud bark, their owner yelping as the leash was wrapped around their wrist and easily pulled them into Harry's chest, the Pitbull trotting around the two to wrap their legs together.
Cerb!” the owner yelped, Harry's chest fluttering as they ripped off their beanie and pouted down at the smiling Pitbull “dude come on! Why you gotta embarrass me like this?!” the Pitbull, Cerb Harry assumed from their very pretty owner scolding them. The owner looked at him, Harry's brain freezing as they locked their sparking (e/c) eyes onto his. “I’m so sorry about this, he-he never acts up like this” Harry struggled to find the words as the owner forced Cerb to walk around them to undo the leash.
“it-it’s okay” Harry stumbled, feeling his ears turn red as the owner looked back at him, stepping away from him a little bit as the leash around their legs loosened. “um-he-you, didn’t mind-shit” Harry, the notorious flirt of the isle, was getting word jumbled over a person he had only seen a minute ago. He felt heat spread to his cheeks as the owner smiled at him and held out their hand.
“I’m (y/n), again sorry about the behavior of this little asshole, but his name is Cerb” Harry took their hand and shook it telling them his name as he looked down at Cerb, laughing slightly as Cerb jumped up to Harry and pushed at Harry's arm, as if demanding Harry to pet him. “Sorry about that, he’s actually never like this around guys” (y/n) sighed, going to pull Cerb off of Harry but Harry shook his head, rubbing his palm into the side of Cerb’s head and decided then and there that dogs, especially ones that looked like this and had very pretty owners attached to their leash, were very cute.
“Why isn’t he like this” Harry guested to Cerb eagerly pushing his muzzle and face into Harry's hand “around guys…other than meh apparently” (y/n) gave a sad smile and shrug.
“Bad family before I rescued him, probably abused, mainly by males, he’s good with all females and kids, just dudes freak him out” Harry let out a small noise of pain, taking his other hand and rubbing Cerb’s face a bit more.
“he’s a good dog” Harry hummed, yelping as Cerb jumped up at him and got a good lick at his chin and nose “ah!” (y/n) laughed and grabbed Cerb’s leash and collar, pulling the dog off of Harry, cooing at him as Cerb started to whine at the separation, “I think he likes meh”
“I think he does too” you laughed, stepping on either side of Cerb to trap him and prevent him from bulldozing Harry. “I’m sorry but, you can’t have him pet you forever!” Harry laughed at that, sticking his hands in his pockets and rocking on his heels slightly, watching you intently as you made sure Cerb’s leash and collar were good before looking back up at Harry with a blinding smile that sent butterflies swarming around his gut. “thank you for being nice to him, and sorry again for him getting us tangled up” Harry shrugged it off with a wave.
“it’s no problem, if it wasn’t fer tha’ we wouldn’t have met” Harry slapped his hand over his mouth at that, his entire face burning as (y/n) stared at him with a small smile. Did he really just say that?!
“a flirt, aren’t you?” (y/n) chuckled, fixing their beanie back over their head and biting their lip “you being for real, or is that just you?”
“I-“ Harry couldn’t get the words out, just continuing to stare red-faced at (y/n). (y/n) looked down at Cerb, then glanced at Harry, as if asking the dog ‘well, what do we think?’ Cerb pushed at (y/n)s leg towards Harry, (y/n) easily getting his message.
(y/n) looked back at Harry with a grin, to which Harry let out a small squeak that he mentally smacked himself over. (y/n) took out a pen from their jacket pocket and grabbed Harry's hand, writing their number on the back of his hand and winking at him “you’re cute, and my dog likes you, call me. okay?” Harry rapidly nodded, holding his hand close to his chest as if it was treasure as (y/n) waved goodbye to him and lead Cerb back to their dorm.
“fuck” Harry muttered, looking down at his hand and biting his lip.
Well…he definitely was a dog person now.
Now he owed Gil fifty bucks.

Perfect Harmony
Tumblr media
Pairing: Luke Patterson x Male!Reader
Requested: Yes
Original Request: “Hey! I have a JATP request if you're still writing them :) A Luke!xmale reader who's in the band (He can take Bobby's place). Reader and Luke have a good friendship and always stare at each-other to make the other laugh during performances but reader develops feelings for Luke so during Edge of Great he avoids eye-contact which Luke isn't happy about and after the show he confronts the reader and the reader finally confesses? Thank you!”
-----------
Ever since you and your bandmates died, things had been strange and not just strange in a ‘we were killed by some bad hot dogs and woke up twenty-five years later as ghosts’ kind of way. No, that was something you could learn to deal with, but you couldn’t get behind the way what remained of Sunset Curve was beginning to drift apart.
Alex had a new friend, a ghost skateboarder named Willie, and you could tell that he had started developing feelings for him. You were happy for him, as much as it hurt to see one of your friends moving on without you.
And Luke- Luke hadn’t been the same since you woke up.
Reggie had taken it upon himself to find out what had happened to his family in the time that the four of you were gone, which meant that he spent a lot of the time outside of rehearsals snooping through records of house sales in the last couple of decades to see if he could find any clue to help him figure out where they might have moved. You knew that the odds of Reggie leaving the band behind were slim to none, but he’d always been so close to his siblings that you couldn’t be absolutely certain.
You had always known that Luke regretted running away from home, but now he spent hours a day watching over his parents or writing songs with Julie, the only living person that had been able to see the four of you since you’d become ghosts.
Along with Julie herself being able to see you came the staggering realization that other people could also see you when you performed with her. This led to the end of Sunset Curve as you’d known it and gave rise to the creation of your new band, Julie and the Phantoms.
You really couldn’t bring yourself to be too upset about the change though, not when every day that Luke got to play his guitar and write songs with Julie made him seem so much more alive.
So what if you used to be his song-writing partner and tease each other on stage whenever you performed and your chest tightened uncomfortably a little when those big brown puppy-dog eyes held yours for just a little too long? You were willing to put your feelings about the situation aside because Luke was your best friend and you loved him.
No, it was more than that, you realized in a startling moment of clarity. You were in love with him.
Thinking back on it, you were sure that you’d loved him for a long time. It made sense; you were always tempted to play with his hair or throw your arm around his shoulder and tug him close. And the way that he looked at you when you sang together always made you feel a little like you’d just stepped off of a roller coaster - dizzy and just a little off-balance but pumped full of so much adrenaline that you can’t wait to do it again.
The weight of an arm curling over your shoulder and your best friend’s blinding smile was enough to drag you out of your thoughts and back to the present, where you’re mere moments away from appearing on stage and playing your heart out with the other phantoms at a party in Julie’s backyard.
“Let’s give ‘em a show to remember,” Luke murmured, just barely loud enough for you to hear. He shot you one last heart-stopping grin before vanishing and reappearing on stage with Alex and Reggie.
You swore under your breath as you missed your cue, quickly teleporting to take Julie’s place at the piano as she stood and moved to go jam with Reggie. Muscle memory kicked in quickly, allowing your fingers to dance effortlessly over the keys to the harmony of Edge of Great, one of the new songs that Julie had helped Luke write.
Right on cue Luke began to sing, his voice washing over you as smooth and sweet as honey. You could feel the weight of his eyes on you, knowing that this was right about when you’d have turned around to pull a dumb face at him to make him laugh if this had been any normal set.
But this wasn’t just a normal performance; you’d just realized that you were in love with your best friend and if you looked at him now, you knew that he’d know something was wrong. With that in mind, you focused on the ivories under your fingers and chiming in on the choruses when you were meant to.
You could tell that Luke was trying to catch your eye, moving repeatedly to try and get into your field of view only for you to ignore him. You could feel yourself tensing as the end of the song crept closer and you could hear Luke’s voice more and more clearly as he approached you, though you forced yourself to continue playing even as he settled beside you on the piano bench. You couldn’t help but meet his gaze with such a small distance between you, almost startling in its intensity.
Just then Julie trailed off on her last note, which you took as your signal to vanish, teleporting directly up into the loft of the studio. All of your bandmates knew that this was where you went when something was troubling you, so you were confident that you’d be left to your own devices as you parsed through your thoughts.
You were proven wrong when you’d turned around to pace in the other direction only to crash directly into Luke.
He put a hand on your shoulder, both to steady you and keep you from running away again. “What’s up with you, man?” he started, clearly annoyed at how distant you were acting. “You missed a cue and then you were… off the rest of the song!”
You shook your head, shrugging away from his hand and taking a few steps back to give yourself some space to think. “I just have a lot on my mind, alright?”
“A lot on your mind?” he echoed incredulously, brows furrowed over concerned brown eyes, “Dude, we died and you didn’t let that bug you. What the hell could possibly be  weighing on you enough to throw you off like that?”
You hesitated, the words you’d been thinking leaving a bitter taste on your tongue. “I think I need to leave the band.”
Reggie and Alex went quiet downstairs. A long moment passed and then you could hear the distinct sound of them teleporting away, leaving to give the two of you some privacy for what would undoubtedly be a very difficult conversation.
Luke looked like he’d have been less hurt if you’d punched him across the face. “W-what?”
Forcing yourself to continue was hard, but you knew that you couldn’t stop now that you’d started. “We’ve all changed a lot since Sunset Curve, Luke. I just don’t think that how I’ve changed is going to be good for Julie and the Phantoms.”
“That can’t be true,” Luke protested, crossing his arms over his chest stubbornly. “You’re just as much a part of this band as any of us, no matter if you changed or not!”
You sighed, scrambling to find an excuse that Luke would accept. “I’ve realized something about myself that makes it really hard for me to stay-”
Luke cut you off, “Look, if you’re worried about coming out or something like that making it weird, I’m pretty sure that no one in this band is actually straight so-”
“I’m in love with you,” you said, interrupting him before his rambling could pick up any more speed.
You could see the moment that he realized what you had said, his eyes going wide and his mouth dropping open in surprise. He seemed too stunned to say anything.
“This is why I didn’t want to say anything,” you sighed, rolling your eyes and turning away. “Forget it, I’m gonna go.”
“Wait,” Luke said, reaching out and grabbing your wrist to stop you from leaving. He hesitated when you turned to look at him, clearly struggling to come up with what to say. “Did you mean that?”
For a second you considered lying, saying that it had all been a joke, but you knew that you could never lie to your best friend like that, even if it was your heart on the line. “Yeah,” you said finally, unable to look Luke in the eyes.
“Oh,” Luke murmured, a faint grin creeping across his features, “Good.”
Your brows furrowed, confused, and you looked up to ask him what he meant just as he leaned in to kiss you.
The kiss only lasted a moment before Luke pulled away, but it was long enough for you to start comprehending what had just happened.
Luke’s eyes glimmered happily in the dim lighting of the studio, the corners of his mouth quirked up into a smile just wide enough for the dimples you’d always admired to indent his cheeks, “I’ve been wanting to do that for ages.”
“You should’ve,” you teased, grinning back at him before leaning in to kiss him again. He met you halfway, smiling against your lips. There was a distinct warmth in your chest at how well he could read you, but then you knew that it really shouldn’t be too surprising. You and Luke together had always been a perfect harmony.

A Pretty Good Bad Idea - Owen Joyner x Reader
Tumblr media
JATP masterlist
Warnings: swearing, peer pressure kinda, very mild n fluffy
Words: 1865
Summary: Touring with the Julie and The Phantoms cast as a dancer has been the best time of your life, and the only thing that could make it better is the reciprocated affections of a cute, blond drummer.
A/N: So this piece is 1) inspired by this interview and 2) entirely self indulgent. It’s something I haven’t been able to get out of my mind every time I’m doing warm ups, and putting it down on ,, digital paper is my only way to get rid of it lmao. I hope y’all enjoy bc I know this scenario makes me really happy and I love sharing my joy with y’all.
I let out an involuntary whine when I roll forward into my almost-center splits. My hips are so sore from yesterday’s performance I had to force myself to start stretching in the first place. Getting a head start, I arrived at the concert venue an hour earlier than call time to get my lengthy stretching routine out of the way before the other girls show up. Slowly but surely, the rest of the dancers arrived and we began getting ready together.
“I have a speaker!” Tori announces to the room upon entering which makes me jump up from my seat.
“Yes! May I do the honors and bless y’all with my musical theatre playlist?” The rest of the group cheers, exposing themselves for the theatre kids that we are. After hearing the chime that signifies the speaker-phone pairing, a few seconds pass before “Cell Block Tango” begins to play. The entire group feigns outrage but we know all the words and soon indulge in such shameful pandering. A good pre-show playlist is what really gets me amped up for performing and after yesterday’s queue of ‘today’s hits’ pop, the musical theatre is a nice change of pace.
Since I’d gotten here so early, I decided to do my makeup before stretching and I still had time to spare. The only thing left for me to do was to get in costume but I’d wait until a little closer to showtime so that I could still eat and drink for the time being. This also meant I was free to roam and bother other people as they got ready, doing what I’d done almost an hour ago.
“So, Y/n?”
“Hm?”
“What’s going on with you and Owen?” I feel my breathing halt for a microsecond before looking up at, one of the other dancers and also my friend, Ella. My eyebrows are cinched in confusion as I try my best to figure out what it is she’s getting at.
“I don’t know, Ella. What is going on with me and Owen?”
“Oh come on. Your Instagram story from yesterday?” Oh. That.
“We just went to lunch?” I seemingly ask more than state.
“Yeah. Just the two of you. Don’t hold out on us, we wanna know what’s going on!”
“Really, Ella, there’s nothing going on. We’re just getting to know each other better.”
“Just getting to know each other better? Or getting to know each other better?” Tori butts in, dusting her cheeks with a subtle highlight.
“The first one?”
“How many times have you hung out?”
“Just the once.”
“Are you planning another date?”
“It wasn’t a date-”
“Do you want us to help wingman you?”
“I really don’t-”
“Hey.” The rapid-fire of questions cease when the gang of us look up to see Owen himself standing in the doorway.
“Speak of the devil,” Tori snickers as the rest of the girls slowly disperse and smugly resume doing their makeup. Owen makes a face in reaction to her comment but chooses not to pry.
“Could I borrow some hairspray? This one piece of hair won’t stay.” Despite each of the girls having a full can of hairspray on hand, nobody makes a move to give him the product, indicating that I should be the one to help him out. Rolling my eyes at the look Ella is giving me through the mirror, I stand from my chair and hand Owen the can of hairspray. He then looks straight ahead and moves to use the product but I stop him before he can.
“What’s your plan?”
“What?”
“Are you just gonna spray the piece?”
“...yeah?”
“That’s not gonna work since the rest of your hair already has product in it. Can I help you?” Owen nods amiably and takes a seat after I gesture for him to sit in my chair. I then realize my mistake as I need the comb on the grey countertop, and have to consequently reach past Owen in a way that wouldn’t be so compromising had I not worn such a low-cut top. Thankfully it’s over as fast as it began, and walking to the sink in the corner of the dressing room, I run the cool water over the bristles. It isn’t until I turn off the tap that I notice how eerily quiet the room had gotten. None of the girls are talking, attentively studying my every move as I cross back to Owen.
“Is this Chicago?”
“Uh, yeah, We’re listening to my musical theatre playlist though, not the whole soundtrack,” I respond in spite of the nervous laugh that falls from my lips. The slight slouch in Owen’s posture doesn’t help me to see what I’m doing clearly enough. Using my index finger and an upturned palm, I tilt his chin up to get a better look at his hair, willfully ignoring the fact that he’s staring at me right now.
Still, silence fills the room as I take the wet comb through the front section of his hair where the stubborn strand won’t stay put. Once the water binds the pieces together, I grab my can of hairspray and struggle to uncap it. The outside is slick from god knows what, but thankfully Owen doesn’t let me struggle anymore and holds up his hands to wordlessly offer his help. I hand him the can, and he pops the top off after barely struggling. Handing the can back to me, he holds onto the lid, and the entire exchange remains completely silent.
I have to work quickly in my next step, but it’s not enough to distract from the fact that everyone in the room is watching me intently. Holding the aerosol can away from the crowd of people, I put some of the product on the comb and quickly work it into Owen’s hair while it’s still wet. Once the comb has formed his hair to my liking, I stop brushing it through in fear of the now dry hairspray ruining the shape. Then, I use my left hand to shield Owen’s eyes from getting any product in them before spraying the offending area to seal in my hard work.
The sound of a cell door sliding closed signifies the end of the song, and I wait for a second, eagerly anticipating the next song to play. Upon hearing the staccato piano notes of “Bad Idea” from Waitress, a smile appears on my face.
“I love this song.” Lunging back on my right leg, I create a little distance between us to make sure I didn’t completely butcher the rest of his hair, singing as I do.
“It’s a bad idea, me and you.”
“I know, I totally agree.” Pleasantly surprised by his joining in, my smile grows bigger.
“It’s a bad idea, me and you.”
“I’ve never known anything so true-”
“It’s a terrible idea, me and you.” The effortlessness that the two of us find in harmonizing is a genuine shock and an absolute thrill all at once. Once Owen sees how excited I am by his joining in me, it’s like a switch had been flipped; the two of us immediately slip into Actor Mode and begin to sing the song as if we were performing it on a Broadway stage.
“You have a wife.” I take a small step back out of the character’s hesitation.
“You have a husband.” Owen mirrors my action.
“You’re my doctor-” I cross my arms across my chest, but release my right hand to gesture to Owen standing in front of me.
“You’ve got a baby coming-” He uses both hands to gesture back to me in my ‘pregnant’ state.
“It’s a bad idea, me and you,” the two of us turn slightly away from facing one another in false bashfulness. When the music picks up, the two of us avidly step toward one another to come together. In perfect synchronization, I grab Owen’s forearms and his hands face upwards to hold onto my elbows.
“Let’s just keep kissing ‘til we come to.”
“Heart, stop racing, let’s face it-” Owen pivots his step out to the side to face forward, extending his right arm which cues me to turn into him and take his other hand to spin out.
“Making mistakes like this will make worse what is already pretty bad.” Then he extends his right arm forward, and I turn into him once again.
“Mind, stop running. It’s time we just let this thing go.” Instead of spinning out again, I stop in front of him where he wraps both of his arms around me.
“It was a pretty good bad idea,” in our harmony I cast my gaze upward to see Owen staring right back down at me, and I feel like I’m seeing stars, “Wasn’t it though?”
The two of us continue dancing and singing with one another as if the rest of the world doesn’t exist. It’s only the two of us, here and now. The other girls in the room don’t miss the way I seem to smile like never before, and I sure as hell don’t miss the way my stomach fills with butterflies. When he holds me so close and dear for each intimate moment of the song, I’m seeing stars. A bold happiness consumes me, the same happiness I felt when Owen and I laughed over lunch in that small pizzeria.
The final harmony draws the song to a close and when it finishes, the two of us fall into a breathless kind of laughter.
“I didn’t take a big enough breath for that last part.”
“Me neither.”
“Your hair stayed intact.”
“I must have a pretty good stylist.”
After recovering from our laughter the two of us wind up in a palpable stupor as we stare into one another’s eyes. A few blinks and my trance is broken, I become aware of our surroundings.
“I should get dressed soon, and you definitely need to get dressed.” Owen nods still somewhat breathless.
“Yeah. See you later for pulse?”
“Save me a spot,” I joke as he backs out of the threshold of our dressing room. Leaning against the doorframe I watch him disappear into his assigned dressing room with a small smile still lingering on my features.
“Just getting to know each other my ass!”
“What the heck was that?”
“Are you sure you don’t want us to wingman you?”
“Do you even need a wingman after something like that?”
Turning on my heel, I face the bunch of insatiable dancers and shake my head in disbelief.
“We were just acting, you guys.”
“Liar.”
“Excuse me?”
“Maybe you were acting, but he sure as hell wasn’t. Did you see the way he was looking at you? He is totally in love with you.” Ella shakes me by my shoulders.
“He’s just a really good performer is all.”
“When is your next date?” she completely ignores me.
“Okay-”
“Oh, and I want to be the maid of honor at your wedding-”
“It was just a song, Ella.”
“-Oh my god you guys are gonna have the cutest kids! I mean, your hair with his eyes and cheekbones? Ahh! The cutest.”
***
A/n: the way that being on tour isn’t the most unrealistic part of this fic, but instead Owen actually knowing the lyrics is? Work diva.

So far apart - Charlie Gillespie
Tumblr media
A/N: ofc i can! Thank you so much, hope you like it :) I will proofe read it tomorrow.

Masterlist
------------------------------------------------
Tiredness was your new default state. College alone was stressful and hard enough plus it didn't help that you had to do it online from your little NY appartement that you shared with three other roommates. But you had too. You were in your last semester ever! That was motivation enough to pull through.
Currently you were trying to facetime your boyfriend Charlie. You haven't seen him in about four months but if someone would ask your roommates, they would say it felt like an eternity of you moaning and pouting about not seeing him. When COVID started, the two of you seriously debated about moving in together. However, at that time, your classes were not online yet and you couldn't move away, he also couldn't move to New York with you because he still had meetings with the JATP Cast.
You stared at your ringing phone, desperate to hear his voice. You knew that he should be awake, you had the time zones imprinted on your brain.
Sorry babe, have a meeting in 5… Will call you after okay? <3 the message that just popped up on your screen made you frown a little. You weren't mad, you just had a really awful week and missed him like crazy.
Sure thing <3 yout texted back and threw the phone onto your bed. Deciding that instead of waiting for him to call back, you could use the time usefully and start studying for your next test in two days.
It was an hour later, you were completely engrossed in the textbook, so you barely heard the ringing of your phone. Maybe a bit too quick, you tossed all your books to the ground and launched yourself on the bed to find your phone.
His pretty face filled your screen “Heyyy!” “Hello beautiful!” You two grinned at each other.
“How are--” A knocking on your door interrupted your question. “Yes?” The door opened and revealed one of your roommates Alexis with a sheepish look on her face “I’m really sorry to interrupt but Tara just broke off with her boyfriend and she needs a hug.”
You looked up at your red haired friend “She broke up with Tom?!” Alexis nodded “It's an emergency” she claimed. Charlie understood this as his clue to end the call saying a quick goodbye and a don't worry about it, when you shot him an apologetic look.
This is how it went nearly every time. Something always came up, either you were studying non-stop and he didn't want to distract you or he had actor things and meetings going on. It was truly tiring. The last time you really had the opportunity to facetime was a couple weeks ago and even then you fell asleep inert 15minutes. When Charlie accidentally lulled you to sleep with a song he's been working on.
Still the two of you made it work. Charlie had started writing you weekly letters with his perfume on it. And you being your crafty self, sent him a little care package with letters, some self made food and paintings, every now and then.
You just finished all your tests and essays for this semester and you felt free again. Taking a deep breath, you opened your bedroom window and put your school books away. Sinking down on your bed, you closed your eyes temporarily, enjoying the moment. You got up again to get yourself something to eat and a coffee. Your roommates were currently away, probably getting groceries or books at the College Library.
You mindlessly scrolled through Instagram, the sandwich you made yourself still laying next to you on the nightstand. Ever since Julie and the Phantoms released, the cast's accounts blew up like crazy and Charlie always showed you off like a queen so of course people found your page as well. You didn't mind though. Most of the people were really nice and respecting, protecting your relationship from all the not so nice guys
You just answered some DM’s, chuckling at a meme that Maddie had sent you, when you got a notification that Owen was live. Naturally you clicked on it, knowing that Charlie most likely will be in the live as well, due to the fact that he was currently at Owen’s with Jeremy.
You were one of the first ones. Owen grinned when he saw your name come up in the chat.
“Guten Morgen everybody.” You chuckled when you heard your boyfriend singing in the background, writing in the chat that Owen should say hi to Charlie. “Are all of you streaming JATP?” he asked the live audience while you nodded to yourself, your laptop open beside you. It was a bit embarrassing to admit how often you saw the show, but every time you felt lonely you watched it. It had some really cute guys in it after all.
He read the chat “Do you like watching the show you participated in? Thats a good question. Charlie, Charlie! I have a question for you.” The camera turned and it showed the canadian boy you fell in love with.
“Eh…” he said as he walked into the kitchen, Owen following close. “It was very weird at first. Guess I'm more used to it now.” he answered honestly. You weren't even listening, you just stared at your phone in trance, the light making him look so incredibly pretty.
Suddenly you got an invitation to join the live from Owen. You sat up a bit straighter and blinked a few times before accepting.
“Helloooooo!” he screamed, making you laugh. “Hi Owen. Yall are up early.”
“Yeah… you know Char. That dumb early riser.” he complained. “Yeah I feel you. Though he lets me sleep so he must love me more than he loves you.” you teased making Owen pout in a childish way.
“Charlie! Who do you love more, me or y/n?” the statement made your boyfriend laugh and for a moment your breath hitched, it was music in your ears and once again you realised how much you missed it.
“I’m really sorry bud, but definitely y/n…I want to...” Charlie just wanted to explain why when he heard your chuckling from Owen’s phone. “See told ya.” It was truly a blessing that the camera was still turned to your boyfriend, making it easy for you to see his reaction. He nearly let the fork he was holding fall out of his hand, his eyes widening while his mouth grew into a big grin. “Is that y/n?” he asked cautiously. Apparently Owen nodded, because before you knew, the camera turned and you were face to face with your boyfriend.
“Baby!” he screamed, a wide, toothy smile on his lips. “How dare you go on live with Owen but not with me!” he jokes. “How was the history test? As hard as you thought it would be?” you cut off his rambling “Hi! Nice to see you too. No, it was way harder than I expected. Let's hope for the best, I get the results sometime next week”
“I bet you killed that test baby! No, Owen you don't get the phone back… I don't care that it's your live.” The chat was freaking out over Charlie's happiness by just seeing you, talking about how they want love like that.
“Little explanation for everybody. Me and Charlie haven't really been able to facetime so were just really excited right now. Sorry if it's boring.” you explained to the chat.
“Don’t ever say that ever again.” he said in a serious tone “it's not boring.” you held your hands up in surrender. “Sorry sorry. Can I talk to Owen again? I mean he is the one who invited me.” you teased, poking your tongue out. With a pout he gave the phone back to Owen.
“Are you also streaming the show today?” he asked you. Charlie was in the background, looking at you over Owens shoulder, making silly faces. “Of course! Who do you think I am? I’ve been watching it everyday since it came out.” Owens' face fell “You're kidding… that doesn't… that doesn't seem healthy.” you shrugged “Well i don't really care. I have this massive crush on someone from the show, just can't get enough of him.”
The camera shook and a couple crunts later you were once again faced with Charlie. “I sure hope it's me or you're not allowed to wear that shirt anymore.” he pointed to the shirt you were currently wearing and that was in fact one of his.
“Not gonna tell you babe. My mouth is shut.” you winked, making him blush. “I miss you.” he blurted out with puppy eyes. “I miss you too. Can’t wait to see you.” he grinned at that excited for the surprise he had planned.
“I think i'm gonna go, let you guys actually comment on the show. I love you Charlie.” You sent him a kiss and he pretended to catch it with his free hand.
“Eww that's so cheesy.” Owen muttered from somewhere in the back.
“I love you too.”

Study Break- Charlie Gillespie Imagine
Summary: You are doing an assignment for college and Charlie comes to the rescue!
Warnings: none just FLUFF
Words: 1.4k
A/N: Hello! This is my first one-shot/imagine, and I hope you like it! I am obsessed with jatp and Charlie right now, so expect that a lot right now XD I will soon be writing harry potter, marvel, and teen wolf stuff as well! Enjoy this Charlie Gillespie imagine!
Tumblr media
“Baaaabe?” I hear Charlie call out from down the hall. I look at the time to see it was 7PM. He must have just gotten home from work. I’ve been doing college assignments for the past four hours straight! I just couldn’t get these math problems right! I knew I should have taken my math credit sooner!
“I’m in our room!” I shout back. I rub my eyes to make sure that I don’t look so exhausted. I tried to continue doing my work when Charlie walks into our room. I turn my head to see he had Subway in his hands. “Aw, you got us dinner?”
Charlie chuckles, “Of course! I knew you would be working so much you would have forgotten to have dinner. Plus, I was hungry, and I didn’t want to make food. How is your work coming along, by the way?”
I shake my head and turn towards my computer, “I can’t figure out these last few problems! I am almost done, too! See, this is why I am a theatre major!” I exclaim in frustration.
Charlie sets down his backpack next to the bed, walks over to me, and kisses my forehead. “You need a break. Let’s eat,” Charlie says while his lips are still on my forehead. As much as I wanted to try to get this assignment done, I knew getting food in my body would make me feel better.
“What did you get me?” I ask while shutting my computer.
“I got you a six-inch meatball sub with cool ranch Doritos and two chocolate cookies. Just like you always get,” Charlie smiles and hands me my bag of food.
“Wow, I can’t believe you remembered my order!” I said in aw. Charlie and I have been dating for about four months now, and sometimes I can’t believe he remembers these little things like what I get from a random fast food place!
Charlie sits crisscross on the bed, “Babe, you get it every single time! How could I forget?”
I shrug my shoulders while unwrapping my sandwich, “I don’t know. It’s a small thing that I wouldn’t think someone besides my family would remember.”
Charlie shakes his head and chuckles, “You underestimate my memory! I am offended!” I roll my eyes at his sarcasm and take a bite of my food. Charlie then scoots on his side of the bed and pats on my side, “Come here, babe. Let’s watch some TV while we eat.”
I grab my bag and sit next to Charlie. He turns on the TV and changes it to Netflix so we can continue re-watching The Vampire Diaries. Once we were done eating our food, I snuggled up next to him. I could feel my eyes getting heavy from the long day of college assignments. When the episode ended, I almost fell asleep, but I quickly open my eyes and sit up so I don’t fall asleep. Charlie notices how tired I am, “Why not just end the day and get a goodnights rest.”
I shake my head and rub my eyes, “I can’t. I had my break, and now I need to finish this assignment tonight. I won’t want to tomorrow, so I need to do it now.” I get up from the bed and back to my desk to turn on the computer.
“(Y/N), it’s now 8 o’clock. You don’t like to do assignments this late!” Charlie says while throwing away our trash.
“I know, but I can’t leave this unfinished. It’s due tomorrow, and I wanted to turn it in a little early,” I say pulling up my work.
Charlie walks over to me and bends down to my level. “Well, I have missed you all day! Why don’t we cuddle while you finish?” Charlie asks.
I turn my face towards him to see that he was pouting like a child. I giggle at his actions and kiss his pouting lip. “Fine, but don’t distract me too much. I need to get a good grade.”
Charlie’s eyes light up, “I promise I won’t distract you!” Charlie pecks my lips and jumps on the bed. I grab my computer and notebook and follow Charlie to his spot. I sit right in front of him and lay on his chest with my computer and notebook on my lap. As I was doing my work, Charlie was on his phone while connected to his his airpods in one hand and with his other hand he is caressing my arm and thigh to help comfort me.
Time passes by, and I finally figure out the last few problems of my homework. I quickly turn it in and shut my computer. I toss my computer and notebook to the side, turn around, and I wrapped my arms around behind Charlie. He puts his phone down and takes an airpod out of one ear. “I’m guessing you’re done! I knew you would figure it out!” Charlie says as he places one hand on my back and one hand on my head.
“That took too long. I can’t wait for this semester to be over so I don’t have to take math ever again,” I whine which is muffled against Charlie’s chest.
“I know, babe. You’ve just got a couple weeks left,” Charlie says while playing with my hair.
I groan loudly, “I know, but I just want to be done already!” Charlie chuckles at my complaining and kisses my forehead. I unwrap my arms around him and sit up to where I was sitting in front of Charlie. He looks at me with a goofy smile. “Thanks for putting up with me and my complaining with school.”
Charlie also sits up from his slouched position. “It’s nothing. College isn’t easy, and of course you are going to have rough patches along the way. You have every right to be frustrated at times,” Charlie says while pulling me closer to him.
“Yeah, but I feel like I just complain about it all the time. I just appreciate your patience,” I say while getting even closer to Charlie. Our faces were only a couple inches away.
“I’m always here for you,” Charlie smiles, his eyes flickering from my eyes to my lips. I smile back and kiss him lovingly. Charlie kisses back immediately and pulls me towards him. We end up laying on the bed, and I giggle in the kiss. Charlie pulls away as he turns the both of us on our side. He then rests his hand on my cheek and rubs his thumb on my cheek bone. “I’m super proud of you, (Y/N).”
I blush at his comment, “Thank you, Charlie. I appreciate it.” As Charlie was rubbing his thumb on my cheek, I could feel my body telling me that it was time for bed. I kiss Charlie’s nose, “I am going to get ready for bed.”
“Yeah, I’m getting tired, too,” Charlie says while yawning. I give Charlie two more pecks on the lips and get off the bed. I grab clothes from my drawers and go into the bathroom to get changed. I quickly do my nightly routine so I can go back to cuddling with Charlie. Finally, I finish getting ready for bed and go back into our room. I see Charlie now changed into sweatpants and no shirt. He was on his phone texting. He then noticed I came back in a huge, baggy shirt and shorts. He puts his phone down, “I know you’re tired, but do we want to watch one more episode of Vampire Diaries?”
I look at the time to see that it was 8:30. “Yeah! We can watch one more episode. Plus, Klaus is about to come into the show!” I say while climbing into bed. Charlie clapped his hands and whispered a happy ‘yes’, and he turned on the TV back on so we can continue watching the show. Charlie pulls up his side of the covers to climb into bed with me. I rest my head on his shoulder and place my hand on his bare chest. Charlie rests his head onto mine and holds my hand that’s on his chest.
He gives me a quick kiss on my forehead, “I love you, babe.”
I look up to Charlie and say softly, “I love you, too!” He smiles down at me and pecks my lips. I go back to resting my head on his shoulder, and watch the show before we ended up falling asleep when the episode ended.

WITH LOVE, THE GOSTS | Julie and The Phantoms - Part Three
Tumblr media
.•´¯`•..•´¯`•..•´¯`•..•´¯`•..•´¯`•..•´¯`•..•´¯`•..•´¯`•.
Author’s Note: I decided that this fic trilogy occurs a year after the season one final, making Julie and Y/N almost (or already) 17. Also… this part turned out waaay longer than expected. Which is why there is going to be a fourth part because I have one last idea but didn’t want to rush to write it. And to think this all started because of a rushed (haha) 1k Oneshot. I should really start to write more spontaneously, it seems like good things come out of it. Anyway, Enjoy! :D
Songs mentioned in this chapter (in this order): Now or Never & Wake Up by JaTP | Don't Stop Me Now by Queen | Rude by MAGIC! | Don’t Laugh At Me by Mark Wills | Don’t You Worry ’Bout a Thing by Tori Kelly | Still Learning by Halsey | Ayo Technology by 50 Cent | My version of My Name Is Luke by Trevor Wilson | Let’s Forget About It by Lisa Loeb | Let's Just Get Naked Lyrics by Joan Osborne | Hey by Pixies
word count: ~ 3.9k
summary: Even after meeting the boys they still aren’t tired of helping you out and they each have their own little ways to do it.
warnings:  // (english is not my first language, not beta-read)
| PART ONE | PART TWO |
.•´¯`•..•´¯`•..•´¯`•..•´¯`•..•´¯`•..•´¯`•..•´¯`•..•´¯`•.
Knowing that ghosts existed was an absurd feeling (even though you had always believed or hoped that there was more out there than just this world, especially with all those planets that had been discovered by NASA), but knowing that there were three certain ghosts that liked you enough to kindly haunt you, well… that was just plain unimaginable somehow. Yet, still less anxiety awakening than you expected.
After Julie let you meet the guys for the first time you thought you were prepared to accept that you would not be able to talk to them unless they played something (after all, you had Flynn to groan about that), but the occasional giggle from Julie and her glances into nothing still sent chills down your spine.
So you started to always look around very suspiciously whenever you were over at her house and make obscene hand movements just to be sure that the boys would move before you walked somewhere or sat down (which just earned chuckles from Flynn and annoyed sighs from Julie - “Just because you can’t see them, doesn’t mean they can’t see you. They know where you are, so please stop, or else my dad will call your parents and send you to Dr Turner as well.” The boys found it hilarious and liked to imitate you whenever they came too close to you.)
The boys also still kept doing little things for you, just not so in secret anymore (though… Reggie was never one for subtlety). Whenever you seemed to have had a bad day (or whenever they just wanted to make you smile) you knew you could count on them having something prepared for you.
You soon discovered that anything related to food (which sometimes were extremely odd and bizarre combinations) was Luke’s doing (except for pizza and meatballs, according to Julie that was always Reggie). And you knew it was Alex whenever it was something more calm and soothing, yet sometimes a little bit clumsy. And whenever it was blatantly obvious and/or slightly weird (in a good way!) it was Reggie.
Well, no. Not always in a good way. One time you came back from school and your whole room was filled with glitter and butterflies and a small note with a little ‘Sorry!’ on it was pinned to your desk - cleaning that had been a pain in the a-. But you couldn’t be angry at Reggie, even though you weren’t quite sure what his ultimate goal would have been.
Speaking of REGGIE...
All those helpful little deeds and nice gestures were always done within the limits of your house (mostly room) or Julie’s house and the studio, which is why you almost let out a loud yelp when suddenly during a math test your pen started to move on his own, filling out the empty space (because yes, you hadn’t been doing very much other than staring helplessly at the paper in front of you). Quickly you grabbed the pen as well (loosely and while trying to ignore the fact that you were practically holding hands with one of the guys) so that nobody would see a floating pen as you did a few weeks ago at Christmas.
From the corners of your eyes, you saw Julie slightly move her head towards you, as if she was listening to you - or rather someone right beside or behind you. ‘Of course. I can’t see them, so the only way to help me is by physically grabbing the pen, but Julie can hear and see them, so they (whoever this is - because let’s be honest, none of the guys really looks like a math genius) only have to tell her the corrects solutions and how to get there. My money’s on Alex.’
You were kind of shocked, and weirdly proud when Julie came up to you after class and said: “Reggie’s not so questionable after all, huh?” (Though… you should’ve guessed it, you did say subtlety wasn’t Reggie’s strong suit.) So you just giggled and shook your head while leaving some of your books in your locker (alongside the fact that Reggie was probably almost (if not!) hugging you from behind - you shuddered at that thought, it’s not like you were already awkward around living boys your age, no need to add ghosts to that list!)
A week later you and Julie entered the studio with blank faces and hanging shoulders. Julie threw a weak little wave towards the piano and sighed while you threw the blankets and snacks you were holding carelessly on the ground and let yourself fall face-first onto the couch, not being able to hide your smile anymore.
“We got our math exams back… yes the one Reggie helped us with.”
You couldn’t see what Julie was doing, but you heard her gasp and whisper “No! Reggie…” after a while. Then she was standing beside you, nudging your shoulder and willing you to sit up, but you didn’t bulge, needing a few more seconds to wipe the smile off your face again.
Faking to disgruntledly accept defeat as Julie’s nudges got stronger (the couch was really comfortable, you totally understood Luke now) you sat up and looked at Julie. “Who’s going to tell them?” you said with a heavy voice and felt how the couch dipped beside you. Raising your eyebrows you quickly glanced to the side (obviously not seeing anybody or anything) and looked back at Julie questioningly.
She nodded, telling you that it was indeed Reggie and gave you the okay to drop the bomb.
You sighed as you turned back around, facing the wall on the other side of the studio and hoped that Reggie would ignore the fact that you were probably talking to his ear or something. “So Reggie… the help you gave us on the math final? Well…,” you couldn’t keep your face straight any longer and jumped onto the couch, “WE ACED IT! I WOULD HUG YOU IF YOU WEREN’T MADE OUT OF CUTE AIR!” (Okay… maybe there was a little bit too much serotonin involved.)
Julie added smiling, “And I’m happy to announce that due to my good grades my father allowed Julie and The Phantoms to play at the upcoming Summer Music Festival!”
A guitar riff filled the studio, followed by a short drum intro and with a ‘puff!’ the boys appeared in front of you, beaming and glowing at the news. Reggie even threw a wink at you when you smiled back and said: “Thank you!”
Don't look down 'Cause we're still rising Up right now And even if we hit the ground We'll still fly Keep dreaming like we'll live forever But live it like it's now or never!
This allowed LUKE…
The music festival was an experience you would never forget. You were very happy Ray managed to persuade your parents to let you accompany Julie (sadly Flynn had no such luck). Not only did you turn 17 and the boys made sure to have the whole crowd sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to you (as soon as you were back home you would add an extra point to your to-do: ‘find out how to kill ghosts a second time’), but the boys rocked the stage and Julie stood up taller and shined brighter than ever before.
Gone (yet not forgotten) were the painful shocks and the fear of never performing again and the serenity of the guys was visible.
It was the last night of the music festival when Julie got the phone call from her father. He would come by to get her the next morning and they would drive directly to visit other family members and spend the rest of the summer holidays there.
Of course, Julie was excited to see her cousins and aunts and uncles again, but she also felt bad to leave you to drive back alone (you had come with your car jam-packed with all the necessary equipment you needed and that wasn’t provided by the festival).
“Don’t worry! It’s only a four-hour drive! I’ve got good music, podcasts and audiobooks to keep me company and back home Flynn will be waiting. It sadly looks like I’m going to survive without you.”
Early the next morning Julie and some newfound fans of Julie and The Phantoms helped you load the equipment into your car and you said goodbye to Julie. Expecting the boys to just directly puff back to Los Feliz you didn’t waste any time and entered your car, connected your phone with the stereo and started to blast your favourite Broadway musicals.
You must’ve been on the road for half an hour when suddenly the playlist stopped and ‘Wake Up’ started to play.
So wake that spirit, spirit!
Confused you scrunched up your nose and touched the touch screen displaying the music system, trying to change it back to your playlist. But instead, the music changed yet again.
(Don't stop me now) 'Cause I'm having a good time (Don't stop me now) Yes, I'm havin' a good time I don't want to stop at all
“What the hell?” you muttered, staring at your stereo for a quick second before focusing back on the road, “Why you always going crazy on me dude?”
Once again the music switched.
Why you gotta be so rude? Don't you know I'm human too?
It took you a hot minute to understand what was going on and then you couldn’t stop laughing.
Don't laugh at me, don't call me names Don't get your pleasure from my pain
“Oh, I’m sorry,” you said mockingly, looking at the empty passenger seat, guessing that that’s where your invisible friend was sitting. “Your pain? I’m not the one who is able to puff wherever and whenever their heart desires and who sneaks up on innocent people.”
Silence.
“For what it’s worth. I’m sorry. I really am. It’s not like you choose this life, you deserved better than this. But I’m really glad I was able to get to know you. I’m really thankful for the light and happiness you brought back into Julie’s life.”
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
But I'm still learnin' to
using technology
You laughed. “Impressive skills nevertheless. Knowing three fitting songs and then changing them at the right time? Let me guess, Luke? Because I don’t think all of you three would fit into my tiny car full of musical equipment.”
At first, there was no music yet again, but then the slow melody of a (for you) well-known song flooded your car. It was the one Trevor Wilson song you never understood until you met the boys, the one song that was so totally different to his usual rock sound (except for the refrains, which, as you later would find out, were parts of the original lyrics Luke wrote for his version of the song).
I sing to remember the stories that used to be But I don’t write to create what could have been And as I scream words into the darkness around me They come out like a dying whisper
The kindest thing to do is to silence them and let them die To unleash my heartfelt sorrow into the sky  And diminish the will to fight That pulses like fire and screams with pain through my veins
But life’s not always beautiful, it’s rare So I’mma chase it, watch you make it
Don’t need to introduce himself You will want to know his name Pushing your foundations down  He is here to stay
Don’t call him a breeze when he’s a hurricane Don’t call him a tremble when he’s an earthquake Don’t call him an inconvenience Please just say his name
Leaving lyrics in my hands That I swallow like pills Like hurtful words, they rip and claw And press painfully against my chest
But no matter how painful they are I will soak them up, thinking of our hopes and wishes And as each word pushes a new pulse through my veins I keep staring out on the grave of our shared space of mind
Life’s not always beautiful, but it’s rare So I’mma chase it, watch you make it
Don’t need to introduce himself You will want to know his name Pushing your foundations down  He is here to stay
Don’t call him a spark when he’s a lightning bolt Don’t call him a flicker when he’s a raging flame Don’t you dare to underestimate him Please just say his name
But even when the word flood finally comes to an end Fidgeting hands remind me of music never played
I owe him my voice I owe him my sound
So I give him this time I give him this space To sing it out loud To let him declare And let me be proud
What’s his name? (His name is Luke!) What’s his name? (His name is Luke!) What’s his name? (His name is Luke!)
How long do we say his name? (Until we explode!)
My name is Luke! (Tell your friends!)
Tears were rolling down your cheeks, the song now more emotional than ever before. You couldn’t imagine how this song must affect Luke. Thinking that his bandmate abandoned him (which honestly… he kind of did, only mentioning him in one song, not giving any money to their parents and so on) up until he heard the song for the first time.
“Luke…”
Forget about it Let's forget about it
The ensuing silence wasn’t awkward. You hummed along to the music Luke selected, sometimes it were old classics (probably his favourites), other times it seemed to be random newer hits he probably never heard before mixed with some songs from your favourite playlists.
It was nearing midday and your stomach made itself known. As if on cue a road sign hinted at a diner just up ahead. Setting the blinker you pulled into the parking lot a few moments later.
“I hope you don’t mind. I know home’s only like an hour away, but...” you began to trail off, not knowing where to look at and your stomach finished your sentence. And before you were able to grab the door handle it sprung wide open.
“Uh, what a gentleman. Thank you very much.”
The meal was over in a flash and once more you realised how much the boys actually knew about you without having actually interacted with you (perks of seeing other people without being seen themselves?).
It’s like Luke could read your wishes just from your facial expressions. Whenever you needed salt or pepper they were right there. Whenever something was too salty or had too much pepper on your drink was being pushed closer to your side. And when you accidentally spilt something and needed more napkins they magically appeared.
When you then spotted a cute little guitar keychain that reminded you of Luke that was being sold as a souvenir at the check-out it was suddenly safely tucked into your back pocket (though that was really really risky, and while you did not condone it you couldn’t really stop a ghost).
Back in your car, you didn’t even bother to turn on the stereo, knowing that Luke would take over as soon as your hands were on the steering wheel again.
However, a glance to your right presented you with a map of your surroundings, a big x hastily drawn over the Silverwood Lake in San Bernardino, which was basically just around the corner.
“You want to go swimming? We- I just ate! And my bathing suit is somewhere under that mountain of equipment on the backseat.”
Let's just get naked, just for a laugh Let's just get naked It's a trip and a half
You laughed at that, rolling your eyes and shaking your head, before stowing the map away and turning on the car. “I guess catching Reggie in the shower isn’t enough anymore?”
Hey!
“You started making it weird buddy.”
It had started to rain when you finally pulled up in your driveway, but you couldn’t be bothered to rush inside, enjoying the feeling of the cooling wetness on your skin.
“Look at that,” you said to nobody in particular, not knowing if Luke was still around or if he puffed back to the garage, “I didn’t even need to go swimming after all.”
He was. Sitting in the passenger seat, face on his arms while he leaned on the open car window, he watched you dance in the rain with a smile on his face. He was glad he decided to stick around and keep you company on that road trip. You gave him the courage to listen to My Name Is Luke for the first time (and getting to see you smile while showing off his impressive music knowledge was a bonus too). Because without knowing, you were doing little deeds for the boys too.
And made ALEX…
Whoever wrote that “Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning how to dance in the rain”-quote totally forgot to mention how dangerous small summer storms can be.
Well sure, it might have been your fault for staying out for too long and deciding to let the sun that came out a little bit later dry you instead of changing into fresh and dry clothes, but whatever happened happened and you got sick. (It’s not like you had anything better to do during the last few days of your summer holidays, right?)
Flynn had been a great friend and hung out almost daily at your house, playing board games, watching movies or tv or even just discussing upcoming Julie and The Phantoms possibilities with you. But your dearest little helper had been Alex.
The blond drummer had turned into the tall brother you never had but always wanted (focus on tall because the age thing with ghosts is seriously confusing) even if he was invisible to you 100% of the time. You had the same interests and were able to bond without actually having to say any words, little gestures and reciprocations on your side were more than enough.
Julie had come up with an easy solution and had bought you some of those sound buzzers (like the ones that dogs and cats use to communicate with their owners) and recorded some simple words and phrases the boys liked to use on them. Now the boys just had to press them to be able to communicate with you without having to use pen and paper or Julie herself (sure your parents were a little bit weary and confused, but you said it was for a longer school research project and that shut them up).
Now, feeling way better than during the last few days, but still very tired, you were sitting in your bed, not really focused on the tv show (or was it a movie?) that was playing on your computer. You had been contemplating and mentally preparing yourself to get something to eat and to drink for the past 15 minutes, but the thoughts alone were exhausting and binding you to the bed. Just then a tray with a water bottle, meds and a fruit bowl floated into your room.
Suddenly wide awake and full of energy you clumsily jumped out of your bed and grabbed the tray, throwing a quick glance out of the door to see if your parents were around and slammed the door shut, wincing at the loud sound and hoping that Alex had walked out of the way (not that it would have hurt him, but you know - rude).
“Rude.”
See? He thought the same. (Julie had to specifically add this word for Alex.)
“I know, I know. I’m sorry. But I would like not to get murdered or have Sam and Dean Winchester on my back because my parents think I’m possessed and need to be exorcised.”
“Me.”
“You what?”
“Me.”
“Alex… I need more context.”
“I do. Me.”
You just blinked blankly at the sound buzzers, trying to piece together what Alex was trying to say.
“Me. Me. Me. Me. Me. Me. Me. Me. Me. Me. Me. Me. M-”
“THAT’S ENOUGH Y/N! WHATEVER THAT SCHOOL PROJECT IS, TELL IT I HEARD IT AND I DON’T CARE WHAT IT WANTS!” you heard your father's scream come muffled through the door.
The audience laughter from sitcoms filled your room and you groaned, grabbing a pillow and smashing it against your face.
Faintly you heard the telltale sound of a pen scribbling something on paper and when you peeked from behind the pillow a note was floating in the air in front of you. “You mean exorcise ME! You would be the one surviving!”
“What? Oh my god… yeah okay, YOU get exorcised… same thing. Both aren’t allowed to happen. Forgive my fever brain.”
“No.”
“Fork you, Alex.”
“No.”
“I have Carlos on speed-dial, I’m sure he already came up with other methods to get rid of ghosts other than the salt thing. He already told me that he’s sorry and that he thinks I might get haunted by you too with the amount of time I spend at their house.”
“No. Food.”
Confused at that topic change it took you a few seconds to answer. “What?” Looking around your gaze landed on the tray that you had deposited on your desk. “Oh right! Boy, I completely forgot how thirsty and hungry I am. Did I say thank you? Fang u!” you mumbled with your mouth full of fruit.
“No. Food.”
You swallowed down your food and took a big gulp of water. “Yes Alex, thank you. I am eating. You see? Here I am, here’s the food. The food is here and now whoops - ifs gan!”
You could basically feel the annoyance radiating from the ghost and weren’t really shocked when the pen started to scribble something down again.
“No! Argh!” He really wrote Argh… that dork really wrote Argh! “You can be worse than Reggie sometimes, but you do it on purpose and I’m just sorry for Reggie. A) Carlos thinks he got rid of us by making a french dip and B) You’re awfully lively for a supposedly sick person. I might need to use the buzzers more and see what other reactions I can provoke from your parents.”
Crumbling the note in your hands you thought ‘Challenge accepted’. “You know what? I think I’mma go back on Reggie’s offer and actually let him introduce me to Wilbur. He might know some stuff I could use to blackmail you. And you’re right! I feel much better, just very tired, but that’s nothing a little bit of fresh air can’t fix! Toodles!”
You left your room, leaving a flabbergasted ghost behind who had lost his snapback with the number of times he had been combing through his hair with his hands. And while angrily pressing a pink buzzer, the buzzer wasn't the only thing that screamed “WILLIAM!” after the girl. (That was another important sound Alex wanted to have recorded.)

Tumblr media
Word Count: 4.7K+
Author’s Note: So, this was going to be covering all of episode eight, but I got a bit carried away, and like, wrote too much? So, felt right to split it, the rest of episode eight will be in the next chapter (get the tissues ready). For now, enjoy some jatp au I made up!
Warning: brief discussion of death.
Part One is here, Two is here, Three is here and Four is here. The masterlist is here, and the moodboard I made for Y/N is aquí.
--
Y/N wasn’t the type to dream, but the more she tried to forget about music, the more she dreamed about… And the people linked to it. Her nights were restless as memories of the past few weeks stirred with flashes of things she couldn’t remember happening to her, often making her periods of sleep restless. It didn’t help that the flickering was getting worse, or that the one person she wanted to spend time with no doubt hated her.
Willie had been good enough to tell her what he had done: admitting to explaining everything to Alex, Reggie, and Luke. He didn’t plan on holding it back, walking straight into her room that night, a week ago, and letting it all tumble out before she could stop him. She just sat, glassy eyed as she listened, her focus somewhere else as she held herself.
“Y/N… Y/N say something…” Willie had asked, taking his hands in hers. Her eyes looked up into his, her forehead resting against his.
“You’re my family, Will… We stick together… I won’t tell Caleb.” She said simply, glancing around them at the mention of their boss.
“He came back, didn’t he? Yelled again?” Willie asked with a sigh.
“I’m fine.”
When Willie found Y/N at the bar the next morning, it was clear she had forgone sleep the night before. She was sluggish in her movements, but not without some sort of spirit in her, humming softly to herself as she straightened glasses on shelves. He sat down across from her on a bar stool, his elbows resting on the polished counter as he reached out a hand to catch her attention.
“Talk to me, Y/N. Please. You don’t look good.” Willie begged, not liking the sight of his closest friend in such pain. She had been getting worse as the week went on, almost like she was losing colour.
“There’s nothing to talk about, Willie… Have you seen Alex?” She asked, and Willie shook his head. He had been keeping his distance from the guys for his own safety, though it hurt not seeing Alex.
“I was planning to look for him today. Just now, actually.” He explained, and Y/N nodded.
“Then do that… I have somewhere to be.” She muttered, stopping when she caught her reflection, and sighing. She ran a hand through her hair, tidying herself up a little, and with a click of her fingers, she changed into better looking clothes. The perks of being a ghost…
“Y/N.” Willie said again, but when his friend started for the exit, he jumped from his seat and blocked her way. “You’re not well. You need to be resting, or something… Not disappearing every day and making Caleb more suspicious of you.” He whispered, holding her by the shoulders. “The plan doesn’t involve you dying, you know…”
“You help them… They cross over and all this nonsense stops…” She said softly, feeling a tear stain her cheek, that Willie quickly wiped away. “… Why do I feel like this?” she asked, catching Willie a little off-guard.
“Feel like what?” He asked, sitting her down at the nearest table. Y/N didn’t really talk about herself, how she felt… In the over a decade they had been friends, it wasn’t something that ever really came up.
“I feel…” She stopped, trying to describe it. “It’s like, heavy, everywhere’s heavy… And my stomach’s all knotted and there’s this fog in my head whenever I think about them…” She said in a hushed tone, rubbing the sides of her temple with her fingers, the black nail polish she had painted on them for that damned party last week now chipped.
“I… I think that’s guilt.” Willie said slowly, and Y/N opened her eyes.
“Guilt? You say it like I’m some sort of robot, Willie.”
“Well, before you met Luke… You sort of were.” He admitted, prompting a soft ‘oh’ to escape her lips. “I mean… You…” Willie tried to back track, but he couldn’t: Y/N needed to hear this. “No… Before a month ago, you were soulless. And considering that’s all you’ve got left…” He sighed, and Y/N just nodded in agreement.
“I just… I never felt like I was doing anything wrong before…” She confessed, her voice barely a whisper, and Willie nodded.
“Yeah… For a while, neither did I.” He agreed. This wasn’t their first time playing tempter and temptress for the club. It wasn’t the first time they had done bad things because they were told to, because they wanted to.
A jolt hit Y/N in the chest, causing her to groan and grip the side of her chair, Willie’s hands reaching out to help, but she shook her head.
“I’m fine. I’m fine.”
“So you keep saying, Y/N. And yet, here we are.” Willie reminded, receiving a harsh glare and weak punch in the arm. “I love you; I’ll see you later, alright?” He promised, and Y/N nodded gently, waving him off.
He glanced back once more, double-checking, but the seat was empty, Y/N already gone. It caused him to frown, but with Alex in his head Willie vanished from the club floor, landing in… A concert venue. Alex was sat on the couch beside him, twirling a drumstick between his fingers, eyes trained on the stage. He seemed to be lost in a memory, smiling softly to himself as his eyes lost focus. Willie flashed over, taking his place by Alex’s side with a sigh.
“Is this seat taken?” He asked, Alex looking over with a forlorn expression. He didn’t say anything in response, instead letting out a heavy breath and letting his legs swing for a moment, his eyes wandering over the room. Willie felt his hands clenching at the sight of Alex so sad, though he couldn’t do much about it.
“This whole thing sucks…” Alex softly said a few seconds later, the pair sharing a look Willie couldn’t hold.
“Yeah, I messed up.” He had been reminding himself of it over the past week quite often, usually in the company of Y/N. They would talk around it a lot, one time she had even offered some suggestions to getting their deal changed with Caleb.
“No, it’s like you said… You didn’t have a choice.” Alex reminded, both looking down at the stamps on their arms. “Caleb owns your soul, Willie…”
“No, still, I know what he’s capable of. I brought you guys right to him.” Willie’s eyes finally looked up at Alex. “When you guys asked me, I should’ve just skated away.” He said definitively, and Alex quirked a smile.
“I would have still followed you.” He responded, leaning closer to Willie for a moment before swaying back. “He would have found us one way or another… You’re not the bad guy, Willie…”
“Just friends with the people who are…” He sighed. “How… How are they doing, your friends?” He asked, and Alex rubbed the back of his neck with a sigh.
“Reggie is Reggie… Luke is… Angry? I think we all are but he… He’s spent the past week trying and failing at plans to help us cross over. I think he’s distracting himself.” He admitted to Willie, who nodded in understanding, no doubt in Alex’s mind that maybe Y/N had been distracting herself too. The bandmates all knew that this place, this was their end goal, but after Luke had made the connection last week he had been trying to find other ‘unfinished business’ options: something more attainable.
“Man…” Willie sighed, turning his body to face Alex better. “I would do anything to take back what I did to you.” It was a promise, even though the damage had been done, and Alex could tell he meant it. Another jolt coursed through Alex, his second that day, and Willie moved back in mild shock, watching the drummer hold his side. “I’m so sorry…” Willie muttered again. “I mean, did you guys figure out what your unfinished business is?” He asked, hoping for some good news, but was met with a tired scoff from Alex.
“It’s not like it’s going to happen…” He informed the skater, his eyes travelling around the venue once more, “We have to play here.” Alex finally revealed, and Willie looked around the room with Alex, not quite sure he had heard the boy correctly.
“The… The Orpheum?” He asked, deadpan, not quite sure if he was being serious: it was one of the biggest spots in Hollywood, alumni of the place were music royalty…
“Yeah, I mean, we were two hours away on that stage the night we died.” Alex pointed as he spoke, his hand dropping down as Willie uttered the following words.
“You guys were gonna be legends…”
“Yeah… We were…”
--
Willie’s concern for Y/N’s wellbeing was warranted: the jolts had been getting worse and more frequent, happening at least four time a day now; and she hadn’t spoken much about how she was feeling to him. Y/N knew Luke was angry, she was upset because of it, but tried her best not to show it. Last thing anyone needed was her teary-eyed and weak.
However, without the emotional outlet, Y/N had to find something else to do, find a distraction: find a new friend.
So, for the last week, Y/N had found herself at Los Feliz High School, quite literally shadowing Julie through the day. The first time, it had actually been a surprise to them both: Y/N had found herself wandering LA on Monday morning when she found herself at the steps to Los Feliz high: her own alma mater.
She walked around by herself for an hour or so, taking in how the school had changed in 25 years: there was certainly more than a coat of paint added, in fact the whole building had been renovated. Walls that were once dull greys and greens had become white, with splashes of red and blue scattered around. The ceilings had been opened up with skylights, making the whole space feel bigger; the cafeteria building was an entire new piece of infrastructure.
It was bizarre, to walk the halls and see smiling faces as if high school wasn’t the worst time of someone’s life… At least, for her it was.
Julie walked through her, actually, during lunch, as she and Flynn had headed for the music rooms to sneak in some practice. She had apologised to thin air, prompting Flynn to give her a funny look, and Y/N to laugh in response. After a brief explanation in the solitude of the band room, Julie insisted that she show Y/N around.
And that was how it had been, every day since. Y/N showed up to school around the same time every day, and followed Julie around her classes, allowed a look into a world she could barely remember being a part of. Y/N found Julie that day in maths class, appearing with a flash of light sat atop of Julie’s neighbouring classmate’s desk, sending the poor kid’s papers to the floor.
“Sorry I’m late, Willie held me up…” Y/N explained, receiving a smile in response. She knew Julie couldn’t talk back to her; she didn’t mind: more glad to be seen than anything. A glance around the room, students with their heads down scribbling furiously as their teacher paced at the board, make it pretty clear to Y/N that there was a test ongoing. “Oh… Sorry, I forgot about this.” She scolded herself for forgetting, Julie had mentioned it the day before, but with Luke and everything else on her mind, it had slipped through the cracks. “Did you study for this?” She asked Julie quickly, earning a quick shake of the head from the girl, who sighed and rubbed her temple in frustration.
Julie’s dad had told her that her grades needed to stay up if she wanted to keep singing with the guys, and Julie had been trying hard to balance it all: but it was math, and her teacher was horrid, it was only a matter of time before she showed up at home with a D in the subject.
“How about, I make up for intruding?” Y/N offered, and Julie glanced up with a raised eyebrow, curious. “Look, it’s a temporary fix, sure, but… You have an invisible friend, four in fact, you might as well use them.” Julie watched with wide eyes as the ghost girl walked to the front of her class, right through her teacher, and sat down at his desk, right where the answer sheet sat. “Oh wow, they really need to update their algebra exams… I’m pretty sure I did this exact paper in 94…” Y/N commented, and Julie had to stifle a giggle. “Wait… Is that Mr Norbert?!” Y/N exclaimed, looking back at the teacher. “He got fat… And bald… You know, he made this test to bump down kids’ GPAs…” She muttered, and Julie found herself clearing her throat. She wasn’t one to cheat at anything, but the test was impossible, and after Y/N clarified that it had been impossible since the 90s, the help would be more than appreciated. “Right, right… Make sure to mark some wrong, go for a… B+ average.” Y/N reminded, scooting the chair forward a little to start reading the answers, causing more than a few heads to look up at the noise. “Ok, number one is A. Number two is C. Number three is…”
--
Over the past week, Julie and Y/N had found themselves in a budding friendship.
It was unconventional, of course, but Y/N was sort of like the big sister Julie never had: Y/N 6 months on her alive and 25 years dead, so she was quite full of useful tid-bits, especially when she was looking for insights into ghost life, or insights into guys. And for Y/N, with Julie’s bandmates certainly hating her, and thanks to no-one wanting to give the girl bad news, she had the chance to make some proper girlfriends, both of Julie and Flynn, and still be connected to the guys, to Luke, even if it was second-hand.
The school day was coming to a close, and after Y/N’s help with her math test, Julie not only felt closer to the mysterious girl who had entered her life only a few weeks ago, but curious to know more: sure, the boys were dopey and a little reckless sometimes, but by the way Y/N talked, the way she dressed, it seemed to Julie that her newest ghostly companion was accustomed to bending the rules a little more than often.
“Hey.” Julie held her phone as she stood by her locker, sorting her books and essentials before the walk home, Y/N leaning on the lockers beside her, her fingers subconsciously moving through the air, like she was playing something no one but her could hear and see. “Y/N.” She said again, the girl knocked from her trance, looking over with a smile and a bounce in her body.
“Julie?” She responded, only for her face to change at the something behind her friend. “Julie.” She said again, gesturing for the girl to turn around. Julie spun on the stop, coming face to face with none other than Nick. She quickly dropped the phone from her ear, pretending to end the call and smiling sweetly at her crush. “You know, he looks better in daylight, and you really can’t say that about many people.”
“Mind if I get an autograph?” Nick asked with a smirk and a toss of his hair, earning an ‘awe’ from behind Julie’s ear.
“I’ll have to check with security.” Julie played along, glancing around, and doing her very best to not focus on the 90s grunge rocker girl ghost dancing around behind her in excitement: perhaps she was more like the guys than Julie thought. “Oh look, I don’t have any.”
“You say that, but after that performance last week, it’s pretty clear… You guys are gonna blow up.” He responded with a genuine smile, and Julie felt her heart flutter a little before reminding herself to not get big headed.
“It was just a garage party. Don’t go all crazy on me.” She dismissed his comment with a wave, but the smile was still there.
“He’s right, you know.” Y/N spoke from behind before circling the kid, pinching his denim jacket, and stopping for a moment. “You know, he looks like he’s in a modern Oasis tribute band. I like it.”
“Yeah, about that…” Nick pulled at the ends of his sleeves, and Julie couldn’t stop the blush rising to her cheeks. He had kissed her that night, and the pair hadn’t really had a chance to talk since. “Since we make such a good team, dance partners and all that, I was wondering if… If…” He laughed nervously, and Julie leaned forward a little. “Do you wanna maybe-”
“Yes.” Julie replied before he even finished the question, and Nick looked surprised.
“You-you do?” He asked. “You wanna go on a date?” He clarified, and Julie nodded, making sure her eyes didn’t drift to the celebrations Y/N was performing in the background. “Great! Uh, I’ll text you! We can schedule around the band practices, of course… Do you like Italian food?” Nick rambled a little, and Julie let out a sweet laugh.
“I do. But yeah, definitely send me a text.” She grinned from ear to ear as Nick walked off, a skip in the boy’s step.
“Uh, finally! I’ve been waiting a week for that kid to ask you out.” Y/N sighed in relief, watching the kid walk out towards the parking lot. It felt nice, for a moment, to not be focused on death and gloom and work, it felt nice to be a kid again. For a while, Y/N had forgotten what it felt like. “He’s been waiting to ask you for a while…” She said softly, and Julie tried to hide her blushing. Unfortunately for her, not only Y/N had noticed it.
“Well, that wasn’t just a what’s up…” Flynn saddled on over with an expectant smile on her face and the fashion sense of kings.
“Oh, that skirt…” Y/N stood by Flynn’s side, comparing the colour to her own skin tone as Julie watched on, amused.
“What? What’s happening?” Flynn asked, stiffening up. “Or are you just pretending one of them is here to avoid telling me what nick asked you?” She asked, still not moving, and Julie shook her head as she laughed.
“He asked me out, first off, and I said yes… And second, Y/N likes your skirt, so if it goes missing at some point.” Julie mumbled the last part, earning a ‘hey!’ from the ghost. “Come round after dinner?” Julie asked Flynn, who nodded, the pair embracing and parting ways, the former with a ghost tagged to her side.
“I’ll walk you to the door.” Y/N shrugged, sauntering beside the girl with a smile, reminding Julie of what she planned to ask before Nick had appeared.
“Do you want to come over?” She asked, earning an odd look from someone before quickly smiling and tapping her ear, pretending to be on wireless earphones. She quickly puled her phone back out and held it to her ear. “I mean, I’m sure the guys would want to see you…”
“Actually…” Y/N said softly, and Julie stopped to examine the look on her friend’s face. “It’s… Luke and I had an argument, the more I avoid the guys, the better.” She lied, but she had a knack for being convincing.
“Well, then I get you all to myself.” Julie said decidedly, and Y/N smiled weakly at her, that feeling for the morning returning: she felt guilty again, and she was half-convinced she’d have to ghost vomit, whatever that looked like.
Their walk home was refreshing, the first time Y/N had walked somewhere in a while, and comfortably quiet. Neither felt the need to talk much, Julie humming every once and a while to herself, both just enjoying the quality time.
They came round the garage to get to the house, Y/N’s eyes lingering for a moment on the doors before following Julie inside, only to get through the door and be walked straight through by Julie’s dad, who ran passed with Julie’s little brother Carlos on his heels, the second carrying two baguettes as he went.
“Dad?” Julie called after them, mouthing a quick ‘sorry’ to Y/N before following them into the kitchen, leaving the ghost alone in the entryway. Julie rounded the corner and raised an eyebrow at her dad and brother’s antics. “French dip?”
“Carlos found an old recipe; we think it belongs to the ghost haunting us.” Ry told his daughter with a wink, and Julie nodded quickly.
“Well, enjoy. If you need me I’ll be upstairs.” She informed with a wave of her hand, heading back for the entryway only to find Y/N stood at her dining room table, staring rather intensely into a box sat on the wood. “You… You all good Y/N?” She asked, the noise coming from the kitchen allowing her to speak freely.
Y/N’s head tilted, and her hand reached out to the CD sat amongst the box’s contents. There was something about it that seemed familiar, though she couldn’t place it, and as her fingers travelled through the object, she heard her name called.
“What?” Her head snapped up, and she smiled at Julie. “Sorry, sorry… In my own little world today. Meet you upstairs?” She suggested, disappearing before Julie could say otherwise. With a roll of the eyes, Julie climbed her stairs and entered her room, closing the door behind her and finding Y/N laid out on her bed.
“If Flynn and the guys weren’t enough, I need to worry about you stealing my bed too?” Julie asked with a laugh, Y/N propping herself up on her elbows.
“It’s a really comfy bed… Sort of your fault.” She shrugged, sitting herself up and crossing her legs as she sat at the foot of the bed. “You know, you’ve got a very… You, room.” She complimented, and Julie grinned.
“I’m a fan of butterflies.” She gestured around her, Y/N nodding as her eyes wandered: there had to be dozens of the creatures depicted in the room. It filled her with an overwhelming sense of déjà vu, something Y/N had felt a lot more often than she thought normal the past few weeks: but it was different…
Half of the time, there was nothing there to remember.
“You know, I had another friend who liked butterflies too… Rosalee.” Y/N said softly, the words unexpected. Julie sat on the bed across from her, grabbing a pillow and holding it to her chest, preparing for a story. Y/N had developed a habit of telling Julie tales about her best moments at the club, her best moments as a ghost, the reaction was reasonable. But Y/N was confused by the words, not quite sure what corner of her mind they had come from, though her lips kept moving. “Well, I called her Rosalee… Everyone else called her Rose. Her parents, our friends… But I had gotten her name wrong the first time I met her, and I couldn’t let it go… She looked like a Rosalee.” Y/N recalled, running a hand over her heart. “She was… So kind, and so funny. And she had this love of butterflies. They were everywhere: her jewellery, her clothes, her car.” Y/N let out a laugh at the thought of her.
“She told me about why she liked them so much once, something about her abuela telling her a story about them, that butterflies were this symbol of rebirth, resurrection, change.” And like that, Y/N came back from whatever place she had travelled to, glancing down at her hands: they had been moving while she spoke. “It’s funny, she was so stubborn… Maybe the butterflies were to remind her that change happens even when you don’t want it.”
“Were you friends with her when you…” Julie asked, speaking up for the first time in a while, but quickly trailing off, not wanting to be so blunt. The message was clear though, and Y/N answered her question with a nod.
“You know, I’d forgotten about her… You spend 25 years building a new life and you forget the old one.” Y/N said softly, sniffing as she thought, another image to her. “She wasn’t perfect, but she was pretty close… And my mom loved her.”
“Moms have that ability, don’t they? When my mom met Flynn, they hit it off right away.” Julie offered, lying back on the bed, Y/N following suit, so they were both staring at the ceiling. “It’s like some sort of sixth sense, picking out the good friends from the bad.”
“Tell me about her… Your, your mom.” Y/N asked, catching Julie smiling from the corner of her eye.
“She was my world...” Julie whispered, hugging the pillow tighter. “She always had energy, and she sang like… And had this heart that just loved everything and everyone it could.” Y/N closed her eyes and imagined Julie’s mom in her head, trying to picture her, though the image wasn’t clear. “She could write music too… We spent so much time together in the studio. She taught me piano, how to sing… She was the best. Sometimes I swear she’s still around. There are mornings… Mornings when I go downstairs and I can still hear her laughing with dad and Carlos, or late at night, I can hear her watching telenovelas in secret.” Julie blinked away the tears, turning to her side to look at Y/N. “What about your mom?”
“Ah… I wish my story were as nice as yours.” Y/N sighed. “I don’t really remember her anymore, and what I can is… Not very nice. I don’t think she was a bad person; I just think that once I had grown up a little too much, she started hating me… Everything I did was wrong, you know? And then they kicked me out, and I died… I don’t think she would have said that if she knew what was going to happen but…” Y/N shrugged. “I can’t really change it now… Both gotta deal with it.”
“Did you ever visit, after you died? That’s what Luke does.” Julie asked, and Y/N shook her head.
“Looked for them in the yellow pages once, but I think they moved out of LA after I died…” Y/N said, pausing for a moment as she processed the last of what Julie had said. “What do you mean that’s what Luke does.”
“Well, you both left on bad terms with your parents… He doesn’t think we know, but he goes to see them a lot…” Julie said softly, sighing. “He went on his birthday, Alex and Reggie took me along… He was just…”
“Luke’s birthday?” Y/N sat up, Julie giving her more and more to process.
“The day we played the bar downtown, yeah… Did he not tell you?” Julie furrowed her brow, and Y/N shook her head.
“Never came up…” She sighed, getting up and walking towards the window. How could she not have known about his birthday, about his parents? Of course, he didn’t know her, not really. “The song I like… Unsaid Emily?”
“About his mom, yeah.” Julie confirmed the thought for Y/N, who just nodded, moving away from the window after spotting movement, worried it might have been one of the boys. Julie watched her, racking her brain, and stopping on a thought. “I have an idea.” She announced, and Y/N looked at her from across the room. “Well, you’ve been helping me out all week, why don’t I help you back? Luke wrote out the song, I have a copy of it. What if I take it to his parents? Ask Luke to come with me, and when he asks, I tell him it was because of you. You two can patch things up, back to happy Luke again.” Julie proposed, and Y/N let out a sad laugh.
“I appreciate the gesture… I don’t think it’ll do much for me, but you should go anyway…” Y/N encouraged, watching Julie pick herself up off the bed to get ready. “Emily deserves to hear her song.”

My Baby Love
*GIF NOT MY OWN- creds to theothersideoffantasy*
Owen Patrick Joyner x reader request!!!
Maybe the reader is part of the JATP cast and once at a gathering the cast starts teasing the reader about who she’d date among the boys. She gives her opinion on each boy but Owen gets upset when she says she wouldn’t date him because he’s a baby (even though she’s only 2 years older). She knows it’s stupid but it’s the only excuse she can find to fight her feelings. Everyone notices how oblivious they both are so at every occasion they keep mentioning how a great couple they’d make ? At the beginning Owen and the reader stay close but eventually the reader becomes more and more flustered and tries to distance herself to suppress her feelings. At the end they just have a heart to heart convo and kiss ? I need major fluff 😂
Requested By: @shimmeringfrenchie
I LOVED THIS REQUEST! I hope I can create the story you want💜
Tumblr media
When I got the call to be in season 2 of Julie and the Phantoms, I never once imagined that it would end up like this- me falling for someone two years younger than me, I had never been attracted to someone younger than me before, I always went with older guys it was just something that I had always done so when I met Owen, I thought that he’d end up being like a little brother to me and that was what I had hoped.
“Hey Y/n!” I heard Charlie call my name as I was leaving the lot, I turned around to see the brunette running towards me with Owen close by, my heart began to race as I saw the blue eyes belonging to the gorgeous boy,
“H-hey” I stuttered, clearing my throat before regaining my confidence, “wassup?” I questioned, looking between the two boys, catching Owen staring at me, I smiled and tore my gaze away, focusing my attention back onto Charlie,
“Well, Owen and I are having some of the cast over tonight for takeout and we were wondering if you wanted to come? Savannah really wants you there” the brunette asked, I nodded happily,
“Well, if Sav wants me there, I guess I have no choice” I joked, just as Savannah walked past us, tucking me into her side
“That is very true, I wouldn’t want to endure a night with the cast without my best friend being there!” Savannah smiled. I had developed a very close friendship with Savannah within a week of filming, the first day of bootcamp she had showed me around and always made sure I was alright, we later realised that we had very similar interests and decided to move in together for the filming of the season and the friendship stemmed from there, she was most definitely my best friend and the truest friend that I had ever had.
“Fine, I’ll be there. What time?” I questioned, looking back over at the boys as Savannah squealed happily beside me,
“Does 7 sound good?” Owen asked, I looked up at him and my breath caught in my throat- he was single-handedly the most attractive person I had ever laid my eyes on and it was almost painful how much I liked him.
“Yep, sounds perfect. I’ll see you then” I smiled, waving the boys goodbye before walking off with Savannah, we wandered through the parking lot before reaching my car, we both hopped in and Savannah took a hold of the aux cord, playing her created playlist of all of Justin Bieber’s hits.
The time to leave for Charlie and Owen’s place soon came round, I changed into a pair of leggings and an oversized hoodie before slipping on my Converse and heading to the door with Sav. “Should we walk or no?” I asked, Savannah shrugged her shoulders, soon going for the option of walking considering the boys didn’t live that far away from us and it was a nice evening in Vancouver, “so, you and Owen?” Savannah questioned after a short silence, my heart rate quickened at the mention of his name, I turned to her with a confused look etched across my face,
“What?” I laughed, as we entered the boys’ apartment building and making our way up to their apartment, “I have no idea what you’re talking about” I rolled my eyes, knocking on the door lightly, the door swung open, revealing Owen smiling his award-winning smile, pushing his hair back from his face before stepping to the side, “hey O” I smile,
“Hey Petal” he said, giving me my usual nickname before pulling me in for a hug, I wrapped my arms around his waist and gave him a tight squeeze, “Hey Sav” Owen continued, letting go of me and giving Savannah a quick hug, I walked further into the apartment seeing Madi, Charlie and Jeremy all sat in the den chatting away,
“Hey Losers” I joked, sitting next to Madi, she pulled me in for a tight side hug, pulling away just as quickly before crossing her legs and settling further into the coach. Savannah swiftly joined the group alongside Owen, sitting beside me whilst Owen sat next to Jeremy.
We had been at the boys’ apartment for around an hour or two, just eating pizza and chatting, “oh guys!” Savannah spoke excitedly, shuffling in her seat comfortably,
“oh what?!” Charlie mimicked Sav’s excitement causing her to glare at him
“We should play Honest” she suggested, looking over at everyone’s confused faces towards the game suggestion “Honest? You guys, it’s self explanatory, it’s like the best game. You ask someone a question and they have to answer honestly.” she shrugged, I turned to the girl sat beside me, raising a singular eyebrow, “Y/n/n, it’s the best game. Honestly. Come on, please guys” she whined,
“I think it’ll be fun” Madison smiled enthusiastically, as always, bringing the mood up and tempting the group into the activity that Savannah had suggested, Charlie, Owen, Jeremy and I chorused a small ‘fine’ causing Savannah to squeal with excitement, reaching over my head to give Madi a high-five.
“Okay okay, I’ll go first... Madi, what’s the worst thing about filming?” Sav questioned, Madi thought about it for a second or two, her eyebrows furrowed as she chewed lightly on her lip,
“I’d say the super early mornings and really really late nights, I’m definitely not used to this new sleep schedule... um... Jeremy, what’s your favourite thing about Carolynn?” Madison smiled, “I only ask because I love seeing your face when you talk about her... it’s so cute!” Jeremy blushed and looked down at the floor for a small moment,
“Okay, I have a lot of favourite things about Carolynn but, one of the things I love most about her is her heart, she has the kindest soul, she cares about everyone she knows so deeply and she is really willing to do anything for the people she loves, she puts other people’s needs before her own and I just think it’s the most beautiful thing” Jeremy gushed, causing the girls and I to ‘aw’ at him, he was totally loved up and it was something that I could only ever wish for,
“I wish someone spoke about me like that” I said, Jeremy smiled at me before asking Savannah which show she preferred to film- Julie and the Phantoms or Knight Squad to which she answered Julie and the Phantoms, giving the reasons of being able to sing and dance and she also mentioned how she loved the closeness of the cast, saying that we were more like a family.
“Okay... Y/n, who would you date out of the boys- y’know out of Owen, Booboo, and Charlie” Savannah questioned, refusing to mention Jeremy as we all know that he would never have been an option based on the pure fact that Carolynn was his soulmate,
“Right... well,  I’d say, probably Charlie because as much as I love Boo, he’s more of an annoying brother and I’d just find it weird if we dated and Owen’s a little baby” I explained,
“Oh some I’m only your option because of process of elimination, great. Thanks y/n/n” Charlie joked, I rolled my eyes at him and looked over at Owen, I watched as his eyes lowered and his mouth turned down, he quickly faked a yawn before standing up off the couch and stretching, yawning again,
“Right, well I’m gonna head to bed, I’ll see you guys tomorrow. Night” he said shortly, promptly leaving the den and making his way to his bedroom, he quickly stole another glance at me before shaking his head and entering his room. After that, the rest of us slowly started to disperse, Madi left first, then Jeremy and then Sav and I.
I crawled into bed and stared up at my ceiling, I couldn’t fight off the feeling that I had really upset Owen, it must’ve been me, I mean he was fine all night- he was engaged, laughing, cracking his stupid jokes and then everything changed once I said that he was a baby... I didn’t really feel like that, I mean, I liked him. A lot, it’s just that I’ve never really gone for younger guys before, I always dated much older guys. But there was just something about him that I couldn’t quite put my finger on, something about him had me hooked and I couldn’t figure out whether it was a nuisance or something that I wanted to happen, all I knew is that however I was feeling, it was something beyond my control.
I just didn’t know what to do. I wouldn’t say that I was a control freak but I definitely didn’t enjoy not being able to have any type of control of what was happening in my life, I always planned on dating and marrying someone a few years older than me as that is what my mum did, my grandma did, and my great grandma. I don’t have any understanding on why I wanted to do the same as them, maybe it was because of my desperate need to impress the women in my family. They’re all successful and they always used to build up this pressure on me to be the perfect woman, I had no room for mistakes. So my falling for Owen, was not in the plan, something out of my control and quite frankly, it was driving me insane.
For the next few days, I tried to talk to Owen but no matter how hard I tried, it seemed that he was trying even harder to avoid me at all costs. “I don’t know why you would say that...” Charlie said as he sat beside me at the lunch hall, “it’s obvious you both like each other” I furrowed my eyebrows and looked at the boy, scoffing
“Yeah, right” I said, rolling my eyes and picking at my food, essentially just pushing it around the plate aimlessly, a silence fell over the two of us as I peered up to see Charlie staring at me with a look on his face as if it say ‘are you serious?’
“Y/n/n... you do like him. I don’t care what you have to say and how much you’re going to deny it. You like him” he shrugged just as Savannah sat across from us
“What are you guys talking about?” She asked breathlessly as she had just finished her dancing scene, I gave her an obvious look that she immediately picked up on “ohhh, Owen?” she questioned as I nodded slowly
“I was just telling our friend here, that she likes Owen and that it’s so obvious that she does” the Canadian explained blatantly, to which Savannah agreed, informing me that it was written all over my face whenever I saw Owen, or even whenever his name was briefly mentioned.
“You’re just caught up on the fact that you want to be like your mum and date older guys. The heart wants what is wants Sweetie, and your heart just so happens to want a 20 year old with lucious blonde hair.” Savannah joked, I rolled my eyes and stood up from the table,
“I refuse to stay here any longer with you guys just talking absolutely nonsense” I replied, shortly. I looked at the two people I was previously sat with before gathering my food and quickly throwing it away as I walked past the bin. I walked out of the small lunch hall and made my way to my trailer.
“Uh.. hey y/n. Wait up” I heard a familiar voice call, Owen. I turned around and smiled up at him nervously. We hadn’t spoken in days, only having fictional conversations as our characters but after that? Strangers. “Can... can we talk?” he questioned, rubbing the back of his neck. I nodded, unable to form any kind of functioning sentence, I silently ushered him into my trailer, closing the door behind me. Owen sat on my small loveseat and patted the spot next to him which I reluctantly took.
“Uh... so what’s up?” I questioned, spluttering slightly, I placed my hands in my lap, closing them and fiddling with my thumbs- a habit I picked up in middle school, whenever I was asked a question by one of my teachers, I would twiddle my thumbs over each other in a circular motion, I wasn’t too sure whether it was something to do with my anxiety or it had links to my thinking process and to this day, I’m still unaware of what it roots to but I have never been able to wean myself off of it.
“Did you mean what you said...” the blonde boy questioned me, “y’know, about how you wouldn’t date me because I’m a baby?” I glanced up at him quickly before diverting my attention to the plain wall in front of me. I inhaled sharply when I felt Owen’s slightly calloused hand make contact with my cheek, he held on to my face lightly as he brought my eyes to meet his own “because I’m not a baby Y/n, I’m just two years younger than you, it’s not like you were in high school when I was born. You were two. I’m not a baby” he reiterated, I nodded and sighed
“Yeah O, I know... I don’t know why I said it. I regretted it the second it left my mouth. Look, ever since I was younger, I was surrounded by women who all married men older than them and my mum always told me that that is how it should be, but it doesn’t feel like that with me... yeah I’ve dated olderguys but-” I cut myself off, worried that if I let all my emotions out to Owen, he wouldn’t reciprocate and I would officially ruin the entire friendship alongside the whole cast dynamic because there would be this awkward tension between Owen and I but just times by a million.
“But what?” he pushed, his thumb running along my cheek causing me to instinctively close my eyes at the blissful feeling it was giving me, the simple touch melted away all of my anxieties “actually wait” he spoke, causing my eyes to shoot open, the anxieties to come rushing back in, I glanced up at him and furrowed my brows together “Y/n, I like you. A lot, I don’t think I’ve ever felt this way about anybody before. Hearing you call me a baby made me feel like you would never see me in that way, and it’s fine. Totally fine. If you don’t feel the same way but I just feel like I need to tell you everything I feel. Y/n, when I see you, everyone else just fades away. I physically can’t picture my life without you in it in any way, even if we just stay friends. I need you with me, you calm me down... so yeah” Owen said, the confidence in himself slowly fading as he continued to ramble, watching my face to see if I expressed any indication other than confusion, I slowly reached up and took a hold of his hand bringing it down in my lap and enclosing it with both of my hands.
“Owen, I like you too... that’s what I was going to say. I’ve dated a few older guys and they just never made me feel the way you do. Owen, you make me laugh so much, you make me feel protected and always cared for and I have never experienced that. Growing up, I had this pressure put on me by my mum, grandma and even my great grandmother, they all used to tell me that ‘dating older men is the way it should be’ and that’s all I thought of, I never thought that a younger guy would come along and sweep me off my feet but you did Owen Patrick Joyner, you really did and I can’t keep denying my feelings for you to everyone and especially to myself.” I breathed out, looking up at Owen with tears welling in my eyes just threatening to spill, Owen abruptly yet gently grabbed my face pulling me in close to him, his lips ghosted over my own as he let out a shaky breath
“You’re all I’ve ever wanted” he said before he pressed his lips to mine in a passionate kiss, I could feel butterflies erupt in my stomach at the feeling of his soft lips on mine, one of his hands moved from the side of my face to the base of my neck, pulling me in closer and deepening to kiss, my hands traced up his arms and draped themselves over his shoulders, toying with the ends of his hair.
This. This felt right, this was how it was supposed to feel. Electrifying, loving and passionate. I never thought I’d fall for someone younger but here he was, Owen. My baby love.

Why Julie and the Phantoms is a masterpiece of a show. Part 2. Heroes and Villains or Let that foil shine
NOTE: Thanks again for your kind response to Part 1. I never expected that. It being my first tumblr post and a first meta in quite a long time I was blown away. I read all the tags, some were really hilarious. About having more than one brain cell xDDD I laughed so hard. It means a lot.
NOTE2: Please remember that the gifs are made by me, so don't crop, edit or give as yours.
Part 1.
Before diving into meta, I have to mention that the Villain of the story is actually one of the best in the decade. He’s cool, evil from the start, we understand his motives and we certainly are not supposed to love and make excuses for him. The writers made sure of that. So back to the main topic.
A foil is a character who contrasts with another character; typically, a character who contrasts with the protagonist, in order to better highlight or differentiate certain qualities of the protagonist
Foils in literature are not necessarily antagonists. A friend can be a foil or sometimes even a thing, a song. Whatever can make a good and real contrast to the protagonist. But it’s not very simple to use this author’s device and not fall down a deep hole. Because you have to make sure you did just the right amount of work to make it understandable for a reader, the things you want to contrast are definitely there and still you don't waste a character. On TV it can be even harder given limited air time. And, well, I don’t come across this device being used in full very often nowadays. It’s usually good and evil fighting for the plot. That’s why I personally appreciate JaTP so much.
Caleb is clearly a foil to Luke. As much as I’d love to say that Julie also has one, that’s not entirely true, at least not this season. Carrie is not her foil though it may seem so, and I really think that’s cool as Julie’s journey is being presented through her own demons and I'm going to cover that next. That being said, of course Caleb doubles as an antagonist plotwise, but I personally consider him being written more as a contract to Luke so we could see and appreciate his character and journey better.
1. Origins
Caleb and Luke have extremely similar backgrounds. They are both natural performers. They know how to deliver, because c’mon, “Now or Never” is something and so is “The other side of Hollywood”. Stage is their natural habitat, their element, power. Although they channel this power from completely different places.
Let’s start with our little ball of energy. It’s emphasized TWICE that he doesn’t care about the money aka the physical side of art.
Tumblr media
All Luke wants is to make music. Connect with people. He is so happy just to be heard despite him loving to perform. Making music is what makes him feel alive and basically that’s enough. I think if there was no “hologram” magic at all, Luke would have still been extremely happy to make music with and for Julie. Because that’s the way he is.
But Caleb doesn’t know that. He knows, and I’m standing by that, right away that Luke is the one to aim at. Because we always feel the similarity in people. If Luke said yes, Reggie and Alex would have followed. So Caleb recognizes the passion and shoots at them what he thinks is appealing. And, oh boy, he delivers.
“The Other Side of Hollywood” is a perfect song to emphasize Luke and Caleb being foils for each other. Follow me here:
Tumblr media
But these lines come from very different places. For Caleb the only thing that matters is himself. He owns the show, he IS the show. It’s about being famous, drowning in applause, admiration. Look at how he performs. Confident, yes, but still very much in control. He must keep his perfect face. No flaws, no real emotions, no real connection (Did you miss ME? I did too // This band is back). Whereas Luke is simply living the best time of his life each time he performs. Is it just jamming? Bring it on. Doing fun riffs? He’s all for it. He doesn’t care how he looks (though who could deny gorgeous sweaty Luke), he owns the show just because he is a natural.
So back to the business. Caleb immediately puts the boys in his own shoes:
On the other side we live like kings // Your soulprint on the walk of fame on the boulevard of your wildest dreams // I got your glamour, got your gold, got all you’ll ever need
Tumblr media
And, I mean, he is not that wrong. You can see the appeal on the boys’ faces. They are young, passionate, handsome, talented musicians. Of course they wouldn’t deny fame. Of course they would want all that to some extent. And Caleb is very sure he pulled the right strings.
Watch me make a move, I’m your number one choice
Also I have to mention, as we are talking about TOSOH (IKEA name again) and it being a foil for Luke, thy lyrics still don’t forget about what is important for Reggie and Alex (we’ll talk about that just a bit later):
Welcome to the brotherhood -> Reggie
Where you won’t be misunderstood -> Alex
Then again, lots of foreshadowing in the song, if you listen carefully the lyrics are stressing the true colors of the offer:
A tomb with a view
Man, what a metaphor. I would have run out of there the minute I heard this line. But our boys share one brain cell (I can’t get over how funny this is) and it’s currently taken by Julie, so I don’t blame them.
Disappointment is huge. Caleb read it all wrong. So we are moving to the next point in our Heroes and Villains essay.
2. Recruitment
It’s very cool that Caleb offers the boys to join his band right after Luke offers Julie to join Sunset Curve. They both are going out of their ways to get that (although have different budgets apparently. But look, they live in a garage). Luke made a hit with a bunch of Julie’s not very well structured lines (I love Flying Solo with all my heart as a song, but as a poem it just looks weird to me) to impress her, and we all saw the show Caleb had thrown to impress the boys. Plus food. And fancy dancing. But here is where contrast comes again.
Caleb offers to join the band, yes, but only as backup singers. It’s his show, remember? It’s only about him. He doesn’t care if they are even good. He wants their magic under control.
Share the spotlight with ME / How do you like MY new band?!
Luke offering Julie a spot in the band is a completely different story. He saw what she is capable of. He instantly knows she must be the key to a new sound, a new level. And he, a natural performer, frontman, lead guitarist, steps back and gives the spotlight to Julie. To think about it, he could have just got her magic under control by giving her simple lines, incorporating piano in the songs and that’s all. They would be visible, he would still be a center of attention, and Julie herself wouldn't mind that much. But that’s not who Luke is. Yes, there is a funny scene of “Hey, I’m your lead singer” and “you don’t have to be mean”, but it’s just messing around. Because right after that he finishes Flying Solo, writes several other songs with Julie, seeks her approval of Sunset Curve songs and basically follows her around like an adorable excited puppy.
Tumblr media
Moving on and back to the rejection. Again the writers are mirroring them. Julie quits the band & the boys decline the offer. What does Luke do? Well, he tries the way he knows: books a gig, makes Reggie and Alex sing in perfect harmonies and does his puppy eyes thing. And it doesn’t work. And Luke goes to reflect and then probably try to come up with a plan. But something tells me he would not have haunted Julie until she joined them.
What does Caleb do after the initial rejection? Puts a cursed stamp that leaves them no choice but to join HGC. You don’t need to say more.
But in fact the more I think about it, the more I suspect Caleb also not possessing enough mental capacity for a human being. Like, if it wasn’t for Willie, how would they even know? Has Caleb planned to simply show up one day and casually explain? Look, foils in everything.
“You’re in a tough spot… So, you wanna join the band?” | “Looked like it hurt… you know where to find me”
But we sidestepped a bit.
3. Pulling the strings
After the song Caleb comes out to consolidate his success. What he does is clever and, btw, that’s the only time he becomes Julie’s foil. They are stating basically the same thing.
Tumblr media
Again, Julie is concerned about the band and the boys, while Caleb is only concerned about having them under control. But they both are pulling basically the right strings.
What is interesting, Caleb actually impressed the wrong person (and that person is our sweet Reggie). Luke follows the string Julie pulled. Although the offer is tempting, he insists twice that they are in a band already directly to Caleb and then in Eats&Beats he says "It's like Julie said, we have a new band, a new sound». No matter what Caleb promised, Luke is not affected at all although Caleb’s offer is a very-very safe choice.
Speaking about using friends as foils, Alex and Reggie also serve as contrast characters for Luke at some points. Luke’s indifference to money is first stressed through Alex who is clearly the chief accountant for the band. His lines about not getting tips, living in a garage and «it’s a little bit about the money» are waved aside by Luke. Reggie is clearly the most affected by the whole Bobbie thing. His lines «I don’t care what Julie said, I’m glad we scared Bobbie», «So we’re gonna forget about getting back at Trevor?» are getting a clear contrast by Luke’s «It’s what Julie said, we have a new band, a new sound» and «He has to live with that guilt».
While editing the article I realised a very cool thing I haven't noticed before. How badly Luke wants to go on tour. And again that's another thing Caleb offers as if reading his mind. That's actually brilliant, to think about it.
Tumblr media
Caleb is a VERY good reader. He tests the waters with a speech about disappearing from stage and going around the world and all dreams coming true. Still he doesn’t know the boys and especially Luke, so his phrase “no real connection” doesn’t register that much.
But he learns. Remember the lines I’ve marked before?
Reggie is afraid they will not be together after they cross over. He is in desperate need of a family. So wouldn’t it be nice to spend the rest of your afterlife with your brothers? (Reggie's main insecurity is loneliness, feel of a broken family. That's why he is the most concerned about crossing over. Will his family stay intact?)
Alex is insecure, and not being understood by the people closest to him will always hit hard. So welcome to a place where you won’t be misunderstood. And actually we know there is a guy you like and find comfort in. (Alex's insecurity is growing up in times when he could not truly be himself even with his family and for sure not believing he would ever be able to find someone meant just for him)
That mirrors the whole Luke’s beach speech perfectly. Only comparing them we can truly appreciate why Luke is the leader. He shuts down his own demons to make Alex and Reggie remember that they are not alone (“and I believe in you”. sorry. Olicity fan).
Caleb makes them suffer to get what he wants. But this time he is careful with the words aimed at Luke. Yes, he repeats his words about vanishing and applauses BUT he makes sure that his words about CONNECTION are the key words for Luke. Intense look, calming voice, touching - these are all elements of hypnosis. And Luke is in a daze. (Continuing the parents' thing, for Luke the main insecurity is not managing to connect with his mom. Maybe that's such a big thing for him: through all these people he wanted to find that connection with her)
Tumblr media
4. The Hero’s journey
That’s the best part actually but I won’t be saying anything new or that you don’t know. Luke is made of lyrics and music. That’s his soul, heart, that’s the feeling running through his veins. He doesn’t need anything other than that in his life. Playing for eternity is “a gift no musician would ever turn down”. But he actually does turn it down. As well as his dream to go see the world with his band (is there covid in jatp universe?). He is the one who resists the hardest to the pull. Luke, who always has a guitar in his hands, doesn't want to play. Because it’s not only about the music now. He has this amazing girl in his afterlife who was willing to accept them for who they were, helped Luke battle his own demons, eased his pain and made him open up. And it doesn’t make sense any longer without her anymore. “And you’re a part of me now till eternity”.
Caleb, being Luke’s foil, completely misses the whole point of connection. It’s not in his nature. His house band are just recruits (Just so happens you’re in luck we’ve got a vacancy). For Luke his band is his family (We are the only family we ever gonna need). The Connection theme is one of the main in the show. And it’s so cool to show it focused through Luke whose best way of interaction is a touch. But not being able to touch Julie Luke has to find other ways, although it’s not that simple for him. And Julie backs that up: We connect in so many other ways. They literally touched each other's souls. Without knowing she put a stamp of her own on Luke, Alex and Reggie. They’ve never felt loved enough, appreciated enough, supported enough. They’ve only had each other. And Julie’s stamp is love. And for Luke (as well as Reggie and Alex) from now on this girl is worth dying for all over again.
_______
So yeah. I hope you enjoyed it, as I for sure enjoyed writing. There is gonna be a part 3 about Julie and a few honorable mentions of parallels of the Pilot and the Finale (I hope at least to do all that). I’ve also figured very very cool connections in the songs and I can’t wait to share.
Also as I was heavily speaking about The Other side of Hollywood, @catty-words has a wonderful meta on rain metaphors here (sorry for tagging, if you don't want to be tagged), check it out if you somehow missed it. It's super clever.

Speed Racer! Inspired- Juke AU
Tumblr media
Living in the fast lane, pedal to the metal
Luke knows he risks the leg up he had on everyone by going back for Wrecking Ball. But they wiped out so hard, and it didn't look like their safety bubble deployed.
And Covington looked so smug when he pulled that cheap manuever too.
"Dude," he hears Reggie's voice, radioing in from the chopper, "Tell me you're not."
He shifts gears and veers off the path.
"I'm not winning this way."
He isn't anything like Covington, he's not gonna let another racer crash and potentially die.
Ignoring the zooms of the other cars rushing to take his place, including Covington's, he drives to the cliffside.
Hopping out, he runs past the wreckage, calling out for the other racer.
He hears a groan coming from beyond the cliff. Scrambling to the edge, he finds Wrecking Ball struggling to get up.
"Take my hand!"
The racer reaches up and takes Luke's hand and he hauls them up.
Once on the surface, Luke looks them over and sees they're all scratched up, even their helmet is cracked.
Strands of long brown curls have come loose and are flowing down from the crevices. And Luke thinks he’s the first person ever to see any hint of who this mysterious driver could be.
"Hey, I'mma need to check for more injuries,"
Wrecking Ball shakes their head furiously, but in doing so it triggers a harsh wince.
"C'mon, please?" he scans the area, "We're out of view from the choppers. We're way off course. No one's gonna see. I promise. I won't say shit. Just let me help you."
A long span of silence brews between them.
And for a second Luke thinks they were gonna lay there and bleed out due to being so stubborn.
But then he's surprised when their hands reach up to unclasp the helmet.
Slowly, it rises, revealing the rider underneath.
"Woah," he couldn't help but let out.
It’s a girl, with full curly hair barely contained in a bun. Her eyeliner is streaked and she's drenched in sweat and blood, but where he sees tough he sees a rugged kind of beauty.
Shaking his head from such thoughts, he inspects the cuts on her face, careful not to hurt her in the process.
"You threw the race," she croaks, voice hoarse, probably not used to speaking so often, "Why?"
He helps her to her feet, and he drapes her arm over his shoulder before they limp to his car.
"I'm not a dick. You could have died."
She laughs bitterly, the action causing her to groan in pain. Luke's hand instinctively went for her stomach.
The girl swats his hand away, and he feels embarrassed, acting like this was some other racer and not the most elusive racing legend of all time.
"You really are new to the program, aren't you?" she continues, "No room for niceties on the track"
"Good thing it’s cross country" Luke shoots back, "There's technically no track."
She groans, "A comedian."
He helps her into the car and she spasms after letting her go. Worried, he starts fussing over her injuries, but she's not too concerned about that.
"I-I can't go back," she blabbers, struggling to move, "They can't know who I am"
He frowns, "Who?"
"Everyone okay! But especially-" she stops, breathing heavy, "Look. People could get hurt if I show my face. That's all you need to know."
"Do I get to know a name?" he dares to ask.
The girl debates that for a moment as he slides into the driver's seat.
The dome closes around them and he starts the engine.
"Julie," she whispers, turning to him with those brown eyes, "It's Julie."
Luke gives her a small smile, "Well, it's cool to finally meet you, Julie." Then he straightens up, realizing.
He pulls out the helmet he had discarded in the backseat in his mad dash to rescue her.
"Here," he gently tucks her hair inside before aiding in putting it on her, "It'll be our little secret."
"You really don't know what you just did, do you?" Julie's muffled voice filters through the helmet.
"I helped out a fellow racer," he puts it in drive and returns to the glacier path, "that's what I did."
The helmet shakes, "If I show up wearing your helmet, people will know you've seen my face.”
Its unsettles Luke just how much this girl expects betrayal at every turn. He hasn’t been in the racing game for very long, but he has some idea of how cruel it can be.
Though he can’t possibly be imagine for it to be so cruel that it forces this girl- Julie- to hide her identity as a precaution.  But he’s not like the others. He has no intention of outing her secret, especially if it’s at the expense of her safety.
They drive on, making their way back, Luke pushing the ‘Curve to it’s limits because the sooner they get there, the better. He wonders if there’s someone on her team who’s actually seen her face. There has to be. So her injuries can be properly attended to. "I'm not gonna rat you out," he has to say again, “I won’t tell.”  Julie turns away from him, not willing to believe him just yet. "They'll make you want to... trust me,"

I think I will prolly do a part 2 or more let me know if you want one, btw this is not proofread or edited. Luke sings to you in this chapter and he sings ‘Can’t take my eyes off you’ by Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, so you can listen to that if you want.
Warnings: I don’t think there’s any.
-
“Julie please, my parents and I just got into another huge fight about my art and I need moral support.”
“But my dad wants me to watch Carlos and I can’t bail again.”
“Please just get here! I need you, Jules,” Y/N radiated distress and it was clear to all the people in the Claire’s she was currently in.
“Fine, I can call my tía. I’ll be there in an hour, but you owe me an ice cream cone!” Julie said laughing, Julie had been Y/N’s best friend since they met in the seventh grade when they both accidentally wore the same shirt three days in a row and became friends, they often would laugh about it. Y/N told her where to meet and thanked her friend quickly hanging up the phone. She heaved all her shopping bags up and looked around.
“Why am I even in this store?!” She hmphed loudly drawing the attention of the other shoppers once again. She marched out of the store towards the food court where she was meeting Julie. A new store caught her eye and she stopped for a minute debating if she had enough room for more bags. She quickly made her mind up deciding that she could make room, after all, she had her dad’s Platinum Amex and she was not going to waste this opportunity. Y/N walked quickly to the entrance of the quaint book store. She turned into the book store slamming into something, it was just her luck to run into a wall today and I mean why not seeing as the rest of her life was falling to pieces around her. She fell onto her back looking at the ceiling her bags scattered around her.
“Oh my god! I’m so sorry! Are you okay?” A boy came into her sight. He had shaggy brown hair and was wearing a light yellow apron with a name tag. Guess she didn’t run into a wall after all, but again that was just her luck. Her eyes began to water as all the emotion crashed upon her like a tsunami. She gritted her teeth pulling herself together.
“I’m fine,” Y/N looked at his name tag. “Luke.”
“Woah how’d you know my name?” Luke stepped back and Y/N let out a breath of laughter.
“Nametag,” She said as the tears began to pool in her eyes.
“What? Oh my god, why are you crying?” Luke looked at her panicked, he didn’t do the best around crying girls. She held up a thumbs up.
“I said I’m- I’m,” She coughed lightly trying her best to get out the words.
“Here let me help you up,” Luke stuck out his hand to her nervously. She grabbed it and using her other hand tried to wipe the onslaught of tears off her face. Luke kept a hold of her hand pulling her to the back section of the store.
“Um you can stay back here as long as you’d like,” He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly and accidentally running into the desk behind him knocking a book off the desk he looked at it quickly.
“Here you can read this maybe it’ll make you feel better,” he picked the book up shoving the book into her arms. He ran out of the room quickly.
“Oh? I- Thank you!” Y/N called out into the store. Luke ran back into the room his arms heaving all the girl’s bags.
“How were you carrying this much?” He wheezed dropping the bags by her. She laughed wiping more tears away and smearing her mascara. Luke backed up again.
“I have to get back to work but just leave when you want and if you need anything I’ll be up at the front counter,” he nodded at the girl giving her a thumbs up, and walked out again. She sat at the back of the store composing herself. She picked up the book looking at the title. It was ‘The Outsiders’ and a pretty beaten up copy at that the book was filled up with loose pages, she flipped through it and set it down on the table next to her. She turned to grab her bags. She didn’t notice but the book slipped off the table into one of her bags. She also didn’t notice her journal/ sketchbook drop from her purse as she grabbed everything trying to flee as quickly as she could. She collected the rest going out into the main store and heading to the counter.
“Thanks again for the help,” She leaned on the counter gazing at the boy in front of her.
“No problem, um you can come back anytime, that is if you want to of course no pressure,” Luke stumbled over his words.
“Of course, yeah,” She nodded, but she was not going to come back, not after that humiliating experience. He smiled dopily at her.
“Can’t wait,” he leaned on the counter as well.
“Um yeah,” she felt a twinge of guilt at the totally sweet look he was giving her. Her phone chimed loudly and she pulled it out.
“That would be my cue to leave,” She turned quickly dashing out of the store making her great escape.
“Bye then,” he waved confused. Y/N pulled out her phone checking the text.
‘Where are you? I got here 10 minutes ago.’ - From Julie. Y/N sighed speeding up her strides to get to the food court quicker. She spied Julie sitting at a table in the middle of the court. She made her way through the throng of people and sat down at the table setting her bags down under it.
“What happened?” Julie asked eyeing the girl.
“I had a bit of a break down in a store, but a nice employee helped me out so I’m good,” Y/N laughed quickly.
“Are you okay, your eyes are really puffy. Do you need eye drops?” Julie stuck her hand in her purse and Y/N stopped her laughing again.
“I don’t need anything I’m good I promise, I just want to spend time with my best friend,” Y/N laid her hands down on the table in front of her. Julie rested her hands on top of the girls.
“If it’s any consolation I am supportive of your art,” Julie smiled sweetly. Y/N’s heart melted at the girl’s words, it did mean a lot to her.
“Thanks, Julie, now if you could convince my parents to do the same then that would be a dream come true,” a weak smile crept its way onto Y/N’s face. Julie squeezed her hand.
“How about we go get that ice cream and we can talk a bit and walk around, I think we both need it,” Julie stood up interlocking her hand with Y/N’s and pulling her towards the creamy treat.
-
It’d been a few weeks since the mall incident and things were not getting any easier for Y/N. Fights seemed to be on the daily now and the yelling was beginning to drive the girl insane. So she spent as little time as possible at her house only going over to sleep and do school work, other than that she was at the park painting or reading through the book that had slipped into her bag. She had planned on returning it to the booking clerk after she had read it, but now it had been three weeks and she had yet to. She would have hung out with Julie, but she was busy with her new band and nonstop rehearsals, they were set to debut at a spirit rally at school next week and they needed to be perfect. She still hadn’t met the band, but she had permission from Julie to crash anytime she wanted and she was planning on taking full advantage of this pass soon.
Her favorite pass time though was reading the book though so she had kept it, she loved to just read and look at the little notes and doodles in the margins, it really gave her a view of what was going on in Luke’s head. Although sometimes it was hard to decipher the hieroglyphics that was Luke’s handwriting.
She had discovered that the writings of S.E. Hinton were not the only thing hidden away in the eggshell-colored pages, there were journal entries and songs. She didn’t feel comfortable reading through the entries but she sure did love reading the works of musical genius, Luke’s, songs. They were so well written and heartfelt it helped her understand this boy that she barely knew, this boy so full of passion, feeling, emotions, and kindness.
And that’s where she was now reading a song of loss and regret under the cloudy sky. One that she related to personally, it reminded her of her parents and that even if she was having a hard time with them she would always love them even if they weren’t in the picture.
“If you could only know I never let you go,” she hummed along to the words, and sure she didn’t know the tune the words were initially meant for but she could sure try and make her own melody. But her phone interrupted her startling her out of her own little world within the words. She hurriedly wiped at her tear-stained cheeks and took the device out. It was 4:30, Julie and the Phantoms were at rehearsals right now and this was the perfect opportunity to infiltrate the jam session, so Y/N hopped on her bike and sped towards the Molina residence.
-
Y/N stopped on the cobblestone path leading to the studio loft and set her bike against the stone wall. She could already hear the music drifting from the open window of the studio. She crept to the porcelain white door and stood on her tiptoes looking through the long windows. Y/N could see Julie on the piano and three boys surrounding her. There was a tall lanky one wearing a pink shirt and had a fanny pack slung across his chest, he had blond hair and was on the drum, there was a raven-haired one clad in flannel and leather he was on bass guitar and another one that wasn’t facing Y/N, from what she could see he was a brunet and was wearing jeans and a blue sleeveless hoodie, and he was on a guitar she thought. Julie looked up and jumped a little but she just laughed it off stopping the music and gesturing for Y/N to come inside. Just as Y/N was about to move away from the door the brunet turned around her her heart stopped she could hear all the blood rushing and it was deafening.
It was Luke from the bookstore. Y/N felt herself pale and she quickly hid from view she slid down to sit against the door and the pavement, her eyes darted around looking for a place to hide, any place at all. But before she could move the door gave way and she fell onto her back. Julie had opened the door at the whole band formed a circle around the starfishes girl. Luke broke out into a fit of giggles.
“We have got to stop meeting like this,” he managed to get out through the laughter. Y/N deadpanned and scoffed.
“Tell me about it,” she sighed. Luke came to a stop and offered her a hand. She did not grab the hand though instead opting to roll onto her stomach and push herself up. Luke lowered his hand awkwardly and Alex snickered.
“You two know each other?” Julie asked looking between the pair.
“Kind of,” Y/N shrugged looking at the dopey grinned boy. “We met at the mall a few weeks ago, you remember Julie we had an ice cream cone that day.
Julie nodded and looked at Luke.
“Oh, so this is the guy you stole a book from!” Julie laughed at the panicked face you made. Luke sent Y/N a confused look.
“Oh my god! I’m so sorry I’ve been meaning to return it,” Y/N dug through her backpack and pulled out the book victorious. She handed the book to Luke quickly and added a quick explanation and a sorry.
“Hey it’s okay, you kind of left something too, I had been wondering where it had disappeared to though,” he laughed and snatched Y/N’s journal from his bag handing it to her. Throughout their exchange Julie, Alex, and Reggie just stood awkwardly shuffling their feet.
“Oh! I thought my dad took this... Oh My god wait please tell me you didn’t look,” Y/N paled again. Luke and Y/N stared at each other for a minute silently.
“Um only a little,” Luke looked down to the ground guiltily. Julie coughed and clasped her hands together.
“Why don’t we play something for Y/N while she’s here!” She said sitting down at the piano. The rest of the boys picked up their instruments, Alex sitting at the drums, Reggie standing with his bass next to Alex and the door, and Luke standing next to the piano and the couch. Y/N took a seat on the couch farthest away from Luke, she was feeling a bit awkward.
“So this is Bright,” Julie said to Y/N as well as making the boys aware of what they’d be playing for her. Julie played the first notes on the piano taking a breath and smiling, she was really in her element right now and it showed.
“Sometimes I think I’m falling down. I wanna cry, I’m calling out,” Julie sang out hitting each note with perfection. Y/N got goosebumps on her arms while listening to Julie’s voice, it was really breathtaking.
“For one more try, to feel alive.” The boys still hadn’t played their instruments and Y/N looked at each of them confused. Luke sent her a wink and threw his guitar over his shoulder with finesse. Y/N smiled brightly and gave him thumbs up. She reached into her bag pulling out a paper and a pen. She wrote a 9.5
“What?! I deserve a 10,” Luke frowned strumming a note as Julie sang, “Life is a risk but I will take it, close my eyes, and jump.”
“It’s because you’re a show-off,” Y/N held out the f sound. Luke laughed and threw his head back.
“I’ll you show you what showing off really looks like,” he grinned at her. Just ask he said that Julie sang, “Come on let’s run!”
And that's when the boys hopped into action the music hitting Y/N like a wave. Luke played the guitar his hands moving effortlessly on the frets, he had so much passion in his eyes and Y/N couldn’t tear hers away. Luke looked at her holding her gaze intently.
“Life is a risk but we will take it, close my eyes and jump,” Luke’s voice came out gravely and husky, giving Y/N goosebumps once again. Reggie sang along with him dancing around the middle of the loft. Y/N felt like the breath was knocked out of her, the band was, to put it simply, dazzling. She had so many thoughts for them but she knew she it’d be impossible to tell them how amazing they were in words. Luke walked closer to Y/N kneeling in front of her while still playing his instrument.
“Come on let’s run!” Luke sang to her, the rest of the band along with him. He hit the high note with ease and Y/N breathed in deeply. Luke continued to sing, but he pulled her up quickly and they danced together, it was a mess of rocking together and lots of spinning on Y/N’s part while Luke jumped up and down still having to play. Reggie came in and joined them, and he and Alex shared a look. They all jumped around in a circle and Y/N jumped onto the couch singing along with the chorus.
“Shine together bright forever!” Y/N picked up her water bottle using it as a mic. Luke couldn’t keep his eyes off her, she was electric.
“In times that I doubted myself, I feel like I needed some help,” Luke sang and the only instrument playing was coming from the piano. Luke walked up to the couch below Y/N and they stared at each other.
“Stuck in my head, with nothing left,” Luke sang to her. Julie shot Y/N a look telling her to sing with him.
“And when I feel lost and alone, I know that I can make it home,” Y/N sang nervously fearing she’d mess up the words, but Luke just smiled at her and Y/N instantly felt at ease. Y/N looked away from Luke for a minute nodding at Julie and they sang together.
“Fight through the dark, and find the spark!!” Julie raising her voice and held out the note. Luke still couldn’t pull his gaze away and he lifted Y/N off the couch spinning her and making her squeal, she was set on the ground and she started dancing again.
“We will fight to shine together! Bright forever!” They all sang out and the song ended. Y/N laughed with glee and jumped up and down.
“You guys are amazing!” She smiled at Alex and hit Reggie’s shoulder, feeling at home with the guys already, even if they only met a few minutes ago.
“I’m gonna run inside the house and grab some snacks and we can hang out!” Luke ran to the door and exited. Y/N laughed, he didn’t even ask if she was free, she was but still. She enveloped Julie in a hug and they laughed together. Y/N’s phone rang in her pocket and she pulled it out and looked at the screen, her mom was calling. A deep frown set into her face and she clutched the phone.
“I’m gonna take this,” She said and made her way out sitting against the stone wall and taking a deep breath trying to prepare herself. She hit the answer button and held the phone to her ear.
“Hello?” She whispered.
“Y/N Y/L/N, you need to get home right now, you have been gone long enough. Get over yourself, you will not become an artist and you will do what we say we are your parents,” Y/N’s mom and dad said, not even letting Y/N get a word in. She breathed in deeply and shut her eyes tight willing herself not to cry.
“Mom, Dad, I’m not coming home,” Y/N got out her voice faltering. Her dad scoffed.
“Don’t be ridiculous you will come home immediately,” Her mom sighed. Y/N shook her head even though her parents couldn’t see.
“I’m not coming home not again and not ever, not until you support me,” she almost lost herself there but she shut her eyes again keeping the tears at bay, she wouldn’t cry for something she needed to do.
“I’m gonna be staying somewhere else from now on, I’ve already got all the stuff that I need and you won’t see me again until I prove you wrong.”
“People will like my art and even if they don’t I like my art and it’s what I’m passionate about and I won’t stop, I won’t give up, I can’t,” Y/N hung up the phone not even giving them a chance to respond, she clicked into her settings turning off her location and stuck her phone next to her. She brought her knees to her chest and she breathed deeply, she heard someone taking a seat next to her, she didn’t look assuming it was Julie.
“I know what it’s like,” Luke laid his head against the wall and put his hands at his sides. Y/N’s head shoots towards Luke.
“It’s you! I thought you were Julie,” Y/N said. Luke started to get up.
“I’m so sorry I’ll go,” he stood up all the way. Y/N grabbed his hand and pull him back down they were now sitting shoulder to shoulder and looking at each other. Y/N breathed in deeply again the tears finally going away.
“Stay.”
“I didn’t mean to eavesdrop drop, by the way,” Luke laid his hand on top of her hesitantly. She laughed shaking her head.
“It’s okay, can you tell me about it?” She asked him referring to what he said earlier. He nodded slowly trying to articulate what he was thinking.
“Okay, but bear with me I’m gonna start at the beginning,” he stated and Y/N intertwined their finger hoping to make him more comfortable.
“My mom and dad bought me my first guitar when I was about 8,” he started squeezing her hand.
“When you said beginning I didn’t think it’d be beginning, beginning,” she laughed. He sent her an annoyed look and she giggled laying her head on his shoulder.
“They didn’t get me into lessons but my neighbor ended up teaching me, I knew immediately that music was what I wanted to do and my parents didn’t quite feel the same but they let me continue playing regardless, but then I started a band called Sunset Curve when I was fifteen, that’s when they tried to take my guitar away,” he deflated slightly and Y/N nestled into him a bit more.
“Of course I hid it where we were practicing and didn’t tell them where, but the fights got so bad that I ran away, on Christmas Eve.”
“Now I’m staying here, but I get how it feels to not be supported by the ones who matter most, so if you need someone who knows what you’re going through you can come to me if you want,” he said facing her as she took her head off his shoulder. They were centimeters apart at this point, they were practically breathing in each other’s air.
“You’re staying at Julie’s?” She asked their noses almost touching.
“Yeah in the loft with Alex, he’s not living at home either, his parents weren’t cool after he came out to them,” he said sadly his eyes fluttering shut. She studied his face, he had freckles that you could only see close up, and there was a small scar just on the bridge of his nose.
“It’s cool that you guys have each other,” Y/N interlocked both their hands.
“You could have us too,” he whispered. “If you want us.”
“I’d really like that I think,” she moved in closer, her lips ghosting over his as he whispered, “I’m glad you want me, us.” They knew each other better than anyone, sure they hadn’t been together long but they’d seen into each other's world through music and writing and art, they saw the most intimate parts of each other. A crash from the garage and Alex fell through the crack in the door and he shot up looking like a deer in headlights. Luke and Y/N jumped away from each other and Y/N hit her bike knocking it over and the contents of her other bag on it spilled out, a mess of clothes and tampons came out and Luke looked horrified. His eyes fell upon a single bra and he stumbled back covering his eyes. Alex ran back into the studio slamming the door behind him. Y/N quickly scooped up her stuff putting it back into her bag making sure to zip it up this time. Luke still was on the ground covering his eyes.
“You can look now,” Y/N let out an airy laugh. Luke shook his head.
“I’m too embarrassed,” he sat up still covering his eyes. Y/N scooted over to him so that she was sitting in front of him on her knees, she brought her hands up to his slowly moving them away. She and Luke looking into one another’s eyes for the millionth time that night. She slowly tore her gaze away and stood up.
“I should probably go find a hotel to stay at,” she whispered picking up her bike. Luke jumped up grabbing her wrist.
“You can stay here! I mean if it’s okay with Julie, we’ll have to ask,” he said holding onto her hands and grinning at her.
“It’s okay with me!” They heard Julie’s voice from inside the studio. Y/N laughed pulling Luke into a tender hug, he didn’t hesitate to wrap his arms around her hips. She rested her head in the crook of his neck and whispered, “Thank you for everything Luke.”
“You’re welcome,” he kissed the top of her head lightly pulling her in tighter. Drops of rain began to dribble into them until it was a downpour. Luke tried to pull her inside but Y/N pulled him back and they spun together in the rain. Y/N let out a joyful and bubbly laugh that had Luke laughing along with her.
“Sing to me music man,” Y/N spun Luke around and dipped him. He grinned at her and began to sing.
“You’re just too good to be true,” they spun together again.
“Can’t take my eyes off of you, you’d be like heaven to touch, I wanna hold you so much,” Luke spun Y/N in and they rocked together. Y/N slid her arms up around Luke’s shoulders and they smiled at each other.
“At long last has arrived and I thank God I’m alive,” he smiled to himself at the line. Y/N spun away and jumped in the rain and a puddle of water exploded under her baby blue converse.
“You’re just too good to be true, Can’t take my eyes off of you,” and the lyrics were true for Luke he could pull his gaze from the magnetic girl in front of him. She held out her hand and Luke grasped it as she spun in her back hitting Luke’s chest. Luke sang more to her and he was almost to the chorus now.
“There are no words left to speak. But if you feel what I feel, please let me know that it’s real.”
“You’re just too good to be true, can’t take my eyes off of you,” Luke hummed and Y/N got ready to sing the chorus with him.
“I love you, baby!” They both sang out at the top of their lungs.
“And if it’s quite alright, I need you baby! To warm a lonely night!” Y/N sang out Luke practically had heart eyes. This wasn’t like before in the studio during Bright, Y/N wasn’t hesitant at all she had the aura of a thousand burning stars and the confidence to show it.
“I love you, baby! Trust in me when I sayyy!” Y/N sang again and Luke continued this time.
“Oh, pretty baby! Don’t bring me down I pray,” Luke spun down onto his knees and held his hands out to Y/N.
“Oh, pretty baby, now that I found you, stay! And let me love you, baby!” Luke sang pulling Y/N in they were once again close, chest to chest the rain streaming down their faces and their foreheads pressed together.
“Let me love you,” Luke sang in a whisper. Y/N hooked her arms around his neck and their lips were close, but not close enough to connect.
“You’re just too good to be true...” He closed in, their lips connecting for half a second but once again they were interrupted by a car beeping from in front of the house. Y/N pulled away quickly and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear.
“That’s probably Julie’s dad with the pizza,” Luke said sadly knocking on the white door for the rest of the teens to come out.
“That was quite the show you two put on,” Reggie said as they came out. Y/N blushed which is something she didn’t normally didn't do so you knew she was very embarrassed.
“Shut up, dude,” Luke punched Reggie’s shoulder. They all began walking to the house, the rest of the teens holding umbrellas but Luke and Y/N were still exposed to the weather. They lagged behind a bit and Y/N took Luke’s hand into hers. They got to the door and they were the only ones out there. The rain pitter-pattered against the covering of the porch. Y/N and Luke faced each other and Y/N smiled at him.
“Thanks again for everything, Luke.”
“It’s my pleasure,” Luke stepped up to her.
“How did you know that was my favorite song?” She grinned at him.
“I have my ways, star,” he cooed and Y/N smiled at the nickname. She stood on her toes and pecked him on the cheek and she dashed inside.
