Your body ached. That was the only thing you could feel. Actually, that was incorrect; you also had a headache and a snotty nose and you were pretty sure your temperature could boil water. In essence, you felt awful. You’d toughed it out for as long as you could, making yourself a steaming hot tea and cozying into the sofa for the night. It wasn’t making you feel any better. So, in a last ditch effort of saving your night, you dialled your boyfriend.
You smiled as his croaky, half-asleep voice came through your phone, murmuring your name.
“I’m sorry, did I wake you?” You asked, brows furrowed as you checked the time, gasping when it read 1:45am. You thought it was still closer to eleven.
“Don’t worry about it, couldn’t sleep anyway,” Luke lied and you frowned, though he couldn’t see it through the screen.
“No, it’s dumb. I’m sorry I woke you up. Night, Luke.” You moved to hang up when Luke interrupted you.
“Baby, wait! Clearly something’s bothering you. What’s up?” You smiled despite your discomfort, your boyfriend always boosting your mood without even trying.
“Nothing,” You pouted in your puddle of blankets, “Just feel sick.” You could feel Luke’s pity without him saying anything and weren’t sure whether to be indignant or grateful.
“Can you stay awake for twenty more minutes, love?”
“I guess so, why?” You asked, turning the TV back on as something to keep you from sleeping.
“I love you,” Was all he said, hanging up on you abruptly. You smiled softly to yourself, willing your eyes to stay open as you tried to focus on the sitcom in front of you.
You were just dozing off when you heard your apartment door unlocking and the brief shuffling of feet in the entryway. Your grin brightened, the familiar butterflies returning to your chest, even after months of being with Luke. The man in questioned approached you quietly, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead as you looked up at him.
“Luke, it’s 2 am, what are you doing here?” You asked despite the obvious answer, opening your shield of blankets for him to crawl onto the sofa with you. He made you wait, tipping out his reusable shopping bag onto the coffee table in front of you. There lay a pint of ice cream, tea bags, painkillers, and your favourite chocolate. Suddenly you weren’t sure if the heat on your face was fever or blush. Silently you held your arms out, and Luke dove into them with all the enthusiasm of a child, peppering your faces with all the kisses he could manage.
“Couldn’t let my girl be sick on her own,” He mumbled, nuzzling himself into the crook of your neck, eliciting a bout of giggles from you.
“My very own Prince Charming,” You grinned, pecking his temple. After a gratuitous moment of cuddling Luke peeled himself off you, taking on the role of concerned caretaker. He was quick to dart into the kitchen, turning the kettle on for your tea and grabbing a spoon for the ice cream he’d bought. Sitting himself in the vacant spot next to you he fixed his focus onto the TV.
“What are we watching?” He asked, pulling the lid off the ice cream tub for you.
“How I Met Your Mother, I’ve just reached season seven.” Luke gasped dramatically, holding his hands over his chest in faux outrage.
“You continued without me? How could you?” You laughed at his accusatory tone, shrugging your shoulders.
“I’m sorry, Lukey. You have to forgive me though, I’m sick,” You punctuated the statement with a pathetic cough, smiling as Luke easily settled down.
You watched in silence for a bit, both giggling at the stupid jokes. After a while you felt Luke looking at you seriously, but chose not to think much of it, continuing to tune in to the show. When he pulled out a thermometer, you raised an eyebrow. Luke wasn’t usually one to be so prepared, but you let him rest it on your tongue nonetheless. When it read a concerningly high number Luke frowned, silently popping the painkillers out of their packaging, feeding you with the insistence of a fed up mother hen.
“Why aren’t you a nurse?” You joked, swallowing the medication with a mouthful of melted ice cream, “Rockstar be damned.”
“Only for you, love.”
“That’s not true, I’ve seen you fretting over Reggie,” You laughed, and Luke couldn’t help but join you.
“That’s fair. You’re my favourite, though.”
“How unexpected.” You craned your neck to press a kiss to his jaw, revelling in the dumb grin that crept onto his face.
You both settled into silence, you leant into Luke’s side, his hands rubbing soft circles into your thigh. You could feel yourself drifting in and out of sleep, never quite able to stay in it for one reason or another. The blanket was too hot, you were cold without it, your head hurt. Nothing was quite right and all you wanted to do was sleep for as long as humanly possible.
“Luke?” You whispered, in case he was already asleep.
“Yes, love?” He replied, shifting his position to look down at you. You faltered for a moment, overwhelmed with the pure adoration in his eyes.
“Will you play for me?” Luke was up in a second, arranging you on the sofa. You giggled as he manhandled you, lying you down and wrapping you tightly in your blanket so you couldn’t escape. You teased him about being his captive audience as he tuned his guitar quickly, never being so grateful for his perfect pitch.
Without anymore holdups Luke began to play, plucking softly at the strings to create a melody that filled the air of your little apartment. His playing was like a siren call, pressing weights on your eyelids until you could barely stand to keep them open. You watched him while you could, admiring the way the faint light from the kitchen lamp made him look like an Adonis, his hair illuminated in gold and his features accentuated by the shadows. You couldn’t believe he was your boyfriend. Luke Patterson, heartthrob of Julie and the Phantoms was your dorky, adoring boyfriend who would make supermarket trips in the middle of the night for you. Who had your favourite ice cream memorised and your key attached to his, so he could come see you whenever he missed you (which was pretty much always).
Despite the various aches and pains that had overtaken your body, the only thing you could feel as you drifted off to sleep was the burning ball of light in your chest, a chemical mixture of joy and love and gratitude, overtaking your senses one by one until you were asleep, dreams filled of beautiful images of your boyfriend.
When you woke up the next morning, you figured out it wasn’t morning at all. Luke had evidently switched off your phone’s alarm after you’d fallen asleep, and it was well into early afternoon when you’d arisen. To his credit though, the sleep had done you some good, and you felt much less like walking death after an intense sleep.
You untangled yourself from the knit blanket, your feet wobbly on the hard wood floors. You had serious post-nap daze, and wandered through your flat looking for your boyfriend. The poorly made sheets on your actual bed told you where Luke slept last night — or this morning, more accurately — you smiled at the way he’d arranged your stuffed animals.
Stuck to the fridge under your New York City magnet was a note from Luke, explaining he had to go to rehearsal but he’d be back later to check on you. You pulled the paper off, travelling back to your room to put the note in your ‘Luke’ box, adding to the collection of notes and drawings he’d given you inconsequentially that you’d held onto.
As the afternoon ticked by you’d gotten onto your computer, figuring that although you were still ill you should try and get something productive done. You were armed with your box of tissues as you got started on an assignment you had due at the end of the week, and slipped your headphones on to get into the headspace.
You screamed as a pair of arms wrapped around you from behind, quickly dissolving into giggles as you realised it was only Luke, back from rehearsal.
“Your voice still sounds scratchy, baby, how are you feeling?” He asked, pressing a kiss to the top of your head.
“Better, promise. Tomorrow I’ll probably go to class if I get another good night’s sleep.”
“That’s my girl.” He grinned, and you felt your insides melting all over again. You closed the laptop, knowing you weren’t going to get much more done now that Luke was with you.
You spent the evening together, ordering in pizza from the place around the corner and getting slightly wine drunk as Luke told you all about his earlier rehearsal and the antics of his band. He sang you part of the new song he and Julie had written and you applauded dramatically, only stopping when you broke into a coughing fit.
“Wanna watch something?” He asked when you grew tired again, cuddling up to him like a cat.
“Barbie?” You asked hopefully, looking up at him with wide eyes. Luke sighed dramatically, but you knew he was just pretending not to like the animated movies you’d grown up on.
“Only if it’s Island Princess,” He offered and you nodded enthusiastically.
The two of you settled in for the movie night, Luke getting much more into the movie as it went on, as he always did. By the end you were singing duets — your voice considerably less pleasing than his, especially due to your illness — Luke taking on the role of the prince letting you be Ro.
As the credits rolled you felt your eyes closing again, and you felt eerily like you did as a younger girl, falling asleep on the couch after a Barbie movie. This was better though, because now you had Luke next to you. He’d taken his role as big spoon extremely seriously, and had all but become one with the couch, pressing into the back as he wrapped his arms around you tightly.
You shifted your position to face him, watching his face relax into contentedness as he tried to doze off to sleep. Feeling you watch him he cracked one eye open, mouth producing a dumb grin that made butterflies erupt in your chest.
“What?” He asked, but you got the distinct impression he knew exactly what you were thinking.
“Nothing,” You lied, but gave in easily, “You’re pretty.”
“You’re pretty too. Now go to sleep.” You nodded, pressing a kiss to the corner of his mouth.
“Kay, goodnight Lukey. I love you.”
“Love you too, my girl. So much.” His answer was muffled by him pressing his face into your hair to pull you closer, but you couldn’t wipe the smile from your face even as sleep enveloped you.

Your POV
I was watching Julie on stage, when I saw the guys popping in. I felt myself smile until I noticed Luke having trouble. I grew nervous just watching him until I heard his voice. " I'm going out of my mind!"
I was cheering them on from the crowd. I noticed Luke glancing my way a couple of times, which made me blush. I knew I shouldn't be nervous with him looking over at me, but I am. I was having the best time dancing and singing along.
Once the show ended I felt a wave of sadness because I knew Luke, Reggie and Alex left for good. I felt a hand on my shoulder and spun around to find my dad.
" Let's go find your sister." he said
I smiled a little and nodded kind of zoned out since all I could think about was Luke right now. I followed behind my brother still thinking about how we didn't get a proper good-bye.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When we found Julie I couldn't help but run over to her. "Omg! You did amazing on that stage." I said while wrapping my arms around her. She chuckled a little and thanked me. She then hugged everyone else while I stood back to get ready to leave.
Julie's POV
After the hugs I could tell Y/n/n was thinking about the boys as much as I was. I knew she was feeling down for not getting to say good-bye.
I waited until the three other members of our family was in front of us before I linked our arms to comfort her. She just gave me a smile before holding my arm a little tighter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We all were singing on the way to the front door until I paused looking over at the studio. " I'll be inside in a little bit." I told them
They nodded, but before she could sneak away I grabbed her wrist. "You want to come with me." I asked hopeful
She looked over at me and I could tell she was hurting. " I can't walk in there, I'm sorry." She pulled her wrist out of my grip and rushed inside. I let out a deep sigh feeling bad for her. I just wish I could help her, but I know she just needs time to heal.
I then decided to go to the studio to go and talk even though they're gone now. As I was talking I heard a grunt so I immediately flicked the light on to find all three of them on the ground in pain. I felt overwhelmed with sadness. I kept telling them to go since they did their unfinished business.
Your POVI left Julie outside to immediately rush inside to my room to let my emotions out. I closed the door and crumbled to the ground not having the energy to stand anymore. This felt like the worst pain ever and I didn't like it.
Julie's POV
I could feel tears falling down my face and when Luke went in for a hug my brain forgot that it wouldn't work, but what shocked me was that I could feel him. I pulled away and saw that he was glowing so I called...
" Alex, Reggie!" which made the both of them come over to me and we all did a group hug. We then started to jump around in a circle making me laugh.
We then pulled away to find their marks that they got from the club were disappearing. " Julie, where's your sister?" Luke questioned
I totally forgot about her. I looked over at the three of them. " She went to her room. She is pretty devastated because she thinks you guys are gone." I explained, but right after I finished Luke disappeared. I glanced at the other two confused where they looked more concerned.
Luke's POV
I popped into her room feeling my heart break from the sight in front of me. I was super hesitant to walk over to her. I didn't want to startle her in any way. I quietly walked over, " Y/n/n...." I softly questioned
I could see her freeze. " You're not real, it's not real." she mumbled
I was now behind her. I gently tapped her shoulder making her jump. She stood up and spun around. I couldn't tell what she was thinking. I went to ask her something, but she immediately started spitting words out. She was making it hard to answer them so I softly placed my hands on her shoulders. " How...how?" She questioned
I looked amazed again. " I'm honestly not sure myself, but I'm right here." I whispered
She started crying again making me nervous not knowing what to do. " Hey, hey, it's okay." I whispered, wiping her tears. I smiled some when she calmed down and then admitted.
" I heard the song you sang to Julie."
She immediately started blushing, making me laugh. " You were not supposed to hear that." She whispered
I pulled her into a hug. " It's okay cause I actually really liked the song. I whispered
Your POV
I couldn't believe I had my arms around Luke. This felt like a dream to me. He rubbed my back some. " What's on your mind?" he questioned
I pulled away, " Just how all this is real. It feels like a dream." I whispered
He smiled, " Well I'm here plus I'm still in my clothes from performing." He stated
I nodded, " Luke about the song..." he interrupted me
He placed both his hands on my face. " Your song was amazing, plus no one's ever written me a song before." He said
I blushed at his words and got lost in his eyes. I saw him lean in which made me nervous. " Is this okay?" he whispered only like an inch from my lips.
I took a deep breath to get rid of the nerves. I then nodded, but he automatically said...
" Use your words Y/n/n."
I immediately folded and whispered, " Yes it's okay."
He then smiled and closed the gap. Feeling his lips on mine is making me get dizzy. He pulled away, but kept his forehead on mine. " How was that?" he whispered
" Amazing." I mumbled
He smiled down at me before kissing me again. All I'm saying is I could get used to the feeling of his lips.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope you once again enjoy and I made her as Julie's sister not sure if I had her as one. Plus she's older than Julie by the way, so feel free to comment or request anything. Thank you guys for all the love and support.
Just as we finish our conversation, the boys are finishing up and I smile as they all pat each other’s back. They stay on the stage, basking in the feeling, then they talk for a minute before coming down to where I’m standing.
“Hey, sweetheart. What'd you think? Wasn’t that awesome?!” Luke uses the nickname he’s always had for me, but I can’t help but wish it was in a different way.
In all his sweaty glory, he comes over to hug me from behind. I squeal before giggling, nodding as he lets go of the hug and grabs his towel from my shoulder.
“Well if you’re coming, you should put your shoes back on,” Alex tells me as he bends down to pick up my shoes.
“Do I have too?!” I whine out like a five year old, making both Luke and Alex laugh.
“Yes, sweetheart. You have to. I promise you can take them off as soon as we get to the alley,” Luke tells me and I grin at him.
“Ok. I guess I can,” I reluctantly agree as Alex hands me my shoes, rolling his eyes before giving me the ‘we are so talking about this later’ look.
“I’ll put them back on here in a minute,” I assure them and they both nod before Alex grabs his fanny pack along with my water.
“Hey! Bobby, where are you going?!” Luke asks as we watch Bobby go up to the girl I talked to earlier.
“I’m good,” he replies, turning back to Luke for a moment with a shrug before he goes back to the girl with all of us now following.
“Vegetarian. I could never hurt an animal,” Bobby boasts as he tries to flirt with the poor girl.
We all come up next to him and Luke puts his other arm up onto Bobby’s shoulder. He holds my hand with his other hand, something we’ve just always done platonically. Reggie stands next to me with an arm on Alex’s shoulder as Alex is on the other side of him.
“You guys are really good,” the girl praises them and smiles at the boys.
“Thank you,” Luke sheepishly says with a big smile on his face.
“I see lots of bands. Been in a couple myself. I was really feeling it,” she emphasizes as she looks at us.
“That’s what we do this for. I’m Luke, by the way,” Luke continues to flirt with her and my stomach twists with jealousy.
But then Luke squeezes my hand and I smile at the fact that it’s for no reason but to let me know he loves me. We’ve always done that when one of us seems to be upset, just as a sign of ‘I’m here, you’re ok,’ to calm the other. It’s our way of saying we love one another without having to say it, always has been and always will be. Again, Alex gives me a look and I shrug, making him roll his eyes.
“Hi, I’m Reggie,” Reggie introduces himself in a flustered tone.
“Alex,” Alex chimes in, putting a hand up in a wave.
“Y/n.. nice to meet you,” I interject with a sweet smile as I lift my hand and give a small wave like my brother did.
“Bobby,” Bobby chirps as he pushes Luke behind him a bit.
“I’m Rose. Nice meeting you guys,” the girl says amusedly, and smiles a beautiful smile.
Luke then gives Bobby a wet willie and I giggle lightly when he does. I then hold a shoe out to Alex and he nods as he takes my left shoe to hold it for me. With my right shoe I take my sock out and Alex takes the right one as well.
Tumblr media
I bend down and Luke keeps a hold on my arm to balance me. I smile up at him in thanks, then finish putting my socks and shoes on.
Tumblr media
“Oh, uh, here’s our demo. And a tee shirt, size beautiful,” Reggie croons, now flirting as well and I roll my eyes as I stand up right again.
“Thanks. I’ll be sure not to wipe down the tables with this one,” she jokes as she holds it up to herself before she throws it over her shoulder.
“Oh, good call! Whenever they get wet, they kinda just fall apart in your hands,” Alex informs her and I smirk at him as he bashfully looks away.
“Don’t you guys have to go get hot dogs?” Bobby asks as he tries to get us all to leave so he can be with Rose.
“Yeah. He had a hamburger for lunch,” Luke informs Rose as he pushes Bobby back so he can talk to Rose. He then pushes off the table with his hands and grabs my hand again before leaving.
“That’s what I’m talking about!” Luke exclaims and Reggie giggles as we all walk out the back door of the Orpheum.
“The smell of sunset boulevard?” Alex asks and I snort as I start to giggle before groaning.
“The shoes?” Alex asks me and I nod.
“No. It’s what that girl said in there tonight,” Luke explains as he swings our hands back and forth and kicks the puddle that’s in front of us.
“About our music, right? It’s like an energy. It connects us with people,” he elaborates and I smile even though in my mind I’m only wanting to take my shoes off.
“I mean, he’s got a point Lex, that’s what connected me and Luke,” I agree and Luke smiles, pulling me in so I’m against his side with his arm around my shoulders.
“She’s not wrong, man, but they can feel us when we play. I want that connection with everybody,” Luke bursts happily and pulls the boys into our little huddle as well.
“Then we’re gonna need more t-shirts,” Reggie jokes as he holds up one of the sunset curve shirts I helped them make a couple weeks ago and the rest of us laugh.
“Let’s go,” Luke playfully orders and I giggle as Luke pulls me closer to leave a kiss to the side of my forehead.
“I love you,” I muse, making him smile.
“I love you too, precious,” he parrotes me, making me grin and nuzzle into his side.
Out of my peripheral I see Alex shake his head lightly and I only cuddle Luke closer. Alex lets out a huff and I shrug as Luke lets go of me.
“Let’s go boys,” Luke commands as pops his hood up over his head as we all head to the front of the Orpheum. “And best friend,” Luke adds, making me giggle.
We continue walking forward until we pass a group of girls who are all talking and not noticing anything at all.
“Ladies,” Reggie croons as he walks up to them and hands them the leftover shirts he has.
We stop and wait for him as he hands them the shirts before coming back to us. Then we all continue walking and the girls open the shirts only to let out a scream.
“Reggie, wait!” One of the girls yells out, making me giggle as Reggie smirks.
We walk for a while before coming up to the alley to get our hot dogs. We get our hot dogs from the cook before we each pile condiments onto them from the back of an Oldsmobile.
“Man…. I can’t wait until we eat someplace where the condiments aren’t served out of the back of an Oldsmobile,” Alex states as he turns to Luke and then walks off to the owner.
“I mean, I can’t say I don’t agree,” I tell Luke and he chuckles as he grabs my hand.
“Hey… sorry I got some pickle juice on your battery cables,” Alex informs the much older man and I hold back a giggle.
“No problem. It’ll help with the rust,” the older man jokes with a laugh.
“That can’t…. okay. What?” Alex asks in confusion, then just deciding to let it go as he walks away from the man. He shakes his head and I giggle when he comes back up next to me.
“Confused?” I ask him and he nods.
“Duh!” he tells me and I snort out a giggle.
We walk over to a couch with our food and sit down. Reggie sits farthest to the left and Luke sits next to him before pulling me down onto his lap and Alex shakes his head as he sits down next to Luke. I push my hot dog into Alex’s hand and he rolls his eyes.
“Uhh, ok sure. I’ll hold it for you, sis,” he sarcastically jokes and I giggle.
I reach down and quickly pull off one shoe along with its sock before ripping the other off. I lean back into Luke with a sigh and he chuckles as I take my hot dog back from Alex.
“This is awesome, you guys. We’re playing the Orpheum! I can’t even count how many bands have played here and ended up being huge,” Luke says excitedly as he keeps his arm around me while holding his hot dog with the other.
“We’re gonna be legends!” Luke exclaims with a smile.
“Yes, you guys will be. And I’ll be right beside you the whole time,” I agree and promise them with a big smile.
“Eat up, sweetheart. You too, boys. Cause after tonight, everything changes,” Luke informs us as he squeezes my hip while holding his hot dog in the air.
We all put our hotdogs together as if toasting to something, then each take a big bite.
“That’s a new flavor,” Alex mentions with a mouth full of hotdog while looking at us.
“Chill man, street dogs haven’t killed us yet,” Reggie jokes, making me giggle.
“I mean he’s got a point. We’ve been eating here for how long?” I ask with a shrug before we all continue to eat.
Little did we know, the hotdogs had bad chemicals in them, chemicals that aren't good to ingest at all.
Y/n’s Pov:{2020 after the Orpheum performance}
“Knock knock,” I speak as I stick my head through Julie's bedroom door.
“Ahh, if it isn’t my favorite ghost that actually has manners. You can come all the way in,” Julie jokes as she turns to look at me and I grin as I step all the way in.
“Hi, Julie. Yeah, the guys are not well mannered, that's something we can agree on,” I say with a laugh and she smiles, also laughing.
“Come to get away again?” she asks and I quickly turn away from her before starting to look around her room again.
“Yeah… he’s just…” I sigh and shake my head as I make my way to her closet.
“Infuriating?” she fills in for me and I bite my lip as I nod.
I start to look around her closet and find a shirt I really like. Smiling, I pull it off the hanger and turn to her as I hold it up.
“Can I try this on?” I ask her and she nods as she gets up and grabs a notebook off her chair.
“Sure. Just don’t do what your boyfriend apparently likes to do,” she tells me with a giggle as she sits back down and I pull it off the hanger.
“One, he’s not my boyfriend. Two, Alex tells that story too much. It was one time!” I quickly defend Luke as I walk over to the mirror to slip it on over my shirt and Julie shakes her head.
“Whatever, just make sure it stays the way it is and comes back to me,” she jokes and I roll my eyes in the mirror at her.
“Yeah, yeah. One time. One time Luke steals a shirt and cuts it up, then we both become shirt villains,” I joke as I turn to look at her.
“Well? Does it look good on me?” I ask her as I hold my arms out and spin a little.
“Yeah. It does. Go ahead and borrow it whenever you want to,” she tells me when she looks up at me from writing and I grin at her.
“Thank you, Jules,” I tell her and she smiles sweetly back at me.
“Of course. That’s what girlfriends are for,” Julie says as she continues to write in her book.
“I’ve never really had girl friends. I’ve only ever had the boys…” I tell her, my voice thick with emotion and she gets up from the bed.
“Well, you have me and Flynn now,” she tells me as she comes up beside me.
“Wanna try on anything else?” she asks and I shrug, making her smile.
“Really y/n, it’s ok. Try whatever you like,” she reiterates to me and I grin, making her smile as she goes and sits back on her bed.
I excitedly walk over to her closet and look through it. I look at her shirts for a few minutes, but nothing jumps out at me. I sigh and let my head fall with my eyes falling closed, making Julie chuckle.
“Nothing speaks to ya, huh?” she asks and I huff, opening my eyes.
My eyes light up as I see something and Julie seems to notice as she once again gets up to come over to me. I bend down and pick them up with a smile on my face. Julie watches me carefully as I straighten up and look at her.
“Do you have socks by chance? I don’t know if mine would even be in the bags in the garage or not. I never really kept any around,” I say excitedly and she smiles, walking over to her dresser.
“Sure, what kind do you normally like?” she asks as she opens the drawer.
“Umm, you got any knee high?” I ask and she gives me a devilish smile.
“Oh, I’ve got many…” she tells me as she begins to pull a bunch out:
Julie lays out pair after pair and I marvel at all her choices of knee high socks. I find it hard to pick my favorite pair and Julie chuckles.
“Pick two or three favorites and you can keep them along with the shoes,” Julie tells me and my head snaps up to look at her.
“Really? I can keep the shoes and two pairs of socks?” I ask and she nods, smiling.
“The shoes aren’t really my favorite anymore, so yeah. Keep ‘em. I also don’t really wear the knee highs anymore,” she says with a laugh as she motions to all the socks she has.
“Thank you, Jules,” I tell her and she smiles, nodding at me.
“There’s so many new patterns from when I was younger. How will I ever pick?” I ask and she chuckles as she lifts a pair off the bed.
“I think you’d like these maroon ones or maybe the navy blue, but if you're ever looking to impress a certain someone, then I’d take one of the music notes,” she tells me as she lifts each one to show me.
“I’ll take the maroon and the yellow and black ones, those ones kinda remind me of when Luke used to call me bee…” I fondly tell her as I pick up the socks before looking up at her to see she has an amused look on her face.
“What?” I ask and she giggles.
“He used to call you, bee? Really?” she asks and I blush lightly.
“It was because bumblebee was my favorite transformer. He used it when we were like 8!” I exclaim when she raises an eyebrow at me.
“Ok. No, that's actually a very cute reason…” she admits as she crosses her arms and I smile.
“Isn’t it, though? If Lex were here he’d totally be gagging and rolling his eyes,” I tell her and she chuckles.
“I could totally see that. Alex seems very protective over you,” she agrees with me and I roll my eyes.
“You have no idea,” I joke and she laughs again.
“You can come take my socks whenever. Like I said, I don’t wear them very often. But keep those ones, they’re yours now,” she tells me with a grin and I grin back.
“Really, thank you,” I tell her again and she shrugs.
“Hey. It’s nothing. I know you hate shoes, so if you like those and I mean really like them, go right ahead and keep ‘em,” she tells me with a smile and I jump up, grabbing the shoes and socks.
“I’ll see you later. Thank you for my new shoes and socks. You think Luke will like ‘em? They match his…” I say in a bashful tone and Julie smirks.
“I’m sure he’ll love them. Heck, he’ll probably just like seeing you excited about shoes for once,” Julie jokes with another shrug and I giggle.
“You're right. I’ll see you later?” I ask her and she nods, grinning.
“Got a gig with the boys tonight so I’m sure I’ll see you there. You never pass our gigs up,” she tells me as she starts picking up the other socks.
“That’s ‘cause I’m the cheerleader. I cheer everyone on, especially now that I’m more of a background manager now that Flynn’s the real manager,” I admit and she shakes her head.
“You’re part of the team too, even if you do more background stuff. Plus, I think of you more as our stylist than a cheerleader. Those shirts you used to make were awesome. Not to mention how you dressed the guys and me for the last gig,” she raves and I blush at all the praise.
“Oh… that was nothing, really,” I wave her compliment off and she shakes her head.
“Y/n, take the compliment. You're awesome at style,” she demands and I slowly smile while nodding.
“Ok… ok. Thank you,” I tell her shyly and she laughs.
“Now go try your new shoes out,” she jokes with me, rolling her eyes with a smile and I grin.
“Ok. See you later!” I wave at her and she waves back.
I quickly walk out of her room—when she opened the door I have no clue, probably when my head was buried in the closet—and I decide to just apparate to the garage. My feet lightly land on the garage floor and I quickly rush over to the couch.
I put the bumblebee striped socks on, then the shoes and smile when I finish tying them. I stand up and grin as I dance around a little bit. Soon I get bored waiting for the guys so I decide to figure out the guy’s clothes for the gig tonight.
I go up into the loft where all of our clothes are and look through Alex’s first. I find him a real nice light pink shirt, knowing he’d want his pink. I then look through his pants and find him one of his many pairs of black sweats.
I then go over to his new collection of fanny packs and find him a nice jean jacket style one. I lay that all out and look over it. I then grab one of his many snapback hats and add it in.
The blue of the snapback pairs perfectly with the fanny pack and I decide to let him pick shoes, making me smile as I’m satisfied with the outfit. I then move on to Luke’s outfit, starting with his favorite skull shirt and lay it out. I start to riffle through his pants when I hear the boys land downstairs from apparating.
“Sweetheart, where are you?” I hear Luke shout out and I smile.
“In the loft, Lukey!” I shout back and smile when I find the right pants.
“There you are. Come down and cuddle?” he asks me and I shake my head, smiling more.
“Sorry, Lukey boy. Can’t. I’ve still got yours, Reggie’s, and Julie's outfits to do before tonight,” I sadly tell him and he frowns.
“But… if you help me, maybe I can get them done faster,” I appeal to him and he takes a moment to think it over before his frown slowly turns to a smile.
“Deal,” he tells me and I smile softly at him as he comes closer.
“Ok. Do you want to finish your outfit then while I start on Regsters?” I ask and he laughs.
“What?” I ask him and he chuckles.
“You haven’t called Reggie Regsters since we were like ten,” he tells me with a smirk and I shrug.
“I guess I’m just feeling very nostalgic today,” I comment as I continue to put Reggie’s outfit together.
“Ok. I’m done with Reginald’s. Are you done with yours?” I ask as I turn around to look at him and again he has a smirk on.
“What is with you today? Old nicknames and full names?” he asks and I giggle as I look over what he’s added to his outfit.
“I really don’t know. I was hanging out with Jules today and for some reason it’s put me in a very weird happy and nostalgic mood,” I explain as I give his outfit a few minor changes.
When I finish his outfit I fully stand up and when I do, I hear him let out a gasp. I look at him and realize he’s looking down at my feet.
Tumblr media
I grin as I stand on my heels, letting my toes angle out before bringing them back in.
“Oh! Jules gave me ‘em. Aren’t they rockin’?” I ask and he gives me a sideways look.
“Sweetheart, don’t get me wrong, they are rockin’, but why are you wearing them? You hate shoes…” he asks me and I feel a blush creep up my neck.
“I really liked them and Julie told me I could have them, so I took them. Do you not like them? They match yours…” I tell him as I bite my lip as I look down at them.
“No. I love them. It’s just… I’m not used to seeing you wear shoes, sweetie,” he explains as he comes over to me.
“Oh…ok. I liked em ‘cause they matched yours. Not to mention they’re  too,” I meekly point out and I hear him chuckle.
“Is that all we had to do all these years to get you to wear shoes? Just find you a pair that matched mine?” he asks, making me look up at him and my breath gets caught in my throat with how close he is.
If I moved just a little bit more, my lips could touch his. Oh how badly I want to just surge forward and close the small distance, but I don’t. I look down at his lips before quickly looking back up at his eyes in hopes he didn’t catch it. To my relief, it seems like he didn’t.
“If that’s the case, we shoulda done that years ago,” he jokes and I just watch him as he keeps a smile on his face.
“Hey. What’s wrong?” he asks me, snapping me out of my thoughts.
“Oh… nothing, I promise. Just… stuck in thought I guess,” I tell him with a shrug before going around him to try and go down the ladder.
“Hey. No. I know something is up, y/n. Come on, you can tell me,” he prompts me as he grabs my hand and pulls me back to him.
“Really. It’s nothing. I’m fine…” I try to lie the best I can, knowing he’ll read me like an open book.
“No. You’re not leaving till you tell me what’s wrong…” he informs as he again pulls me back, but this time he pulls me into a hug and holds me there.
“Lukey… come on. Let me go. I can’t talk to you about it, ok…?” I plead with him and he gives me a confused look.
“What can’t you tell me? You tell me everything, sweetheart. It’s ok. You can tell me,” he promises and I sigh, realizing he won’t be letting this go.
“I can’t tell you because it’s about you. You’ll stop talking to me and I don’t want that,” I admit in a fast jumble of words.
“What do you mean it’s about me? Did I do something to make you upset with me? I’m sorry if I did,” he quickly apologizes and I shake my head.
“Goodness no, Luke… I… uh… like someone…” I tell him as I bite my lip and his face falls.
“Oh. So you’re…” he trails off and I nod.
“Yeah. I’m in love with you…” I admit sheepishly and his eyes widen.
“Wait, what?!” he asks and I give a nervous giggle.
“What did you think I meant?” I ask him and he chuckles.
“I thought you were trying to tell me you were going to go out with another guy. Ya know, dial everything back…” he explains with a slow smile making way to his face.
“Oh… well, no…” I again nervously trail off and he chuckles again.
“Sweetheart, look at me please…” he asks me and I do, only to see him smiling.
“Wha-” I start off, but he cuts me off as he slams his lips to mine and I freeze.
The kiss lasts for a few minutes and it's exactly how I always dreamed of it. At first, Luke kisses me and I can’t move out of shock, but once I’ve snapped out of it I kiss him back. Our lips move in sync and it’s so full of love.
It’s nice and slow as Luke keeps his hands on my cheeks. My arms slowly wrap around his neck and I play with the hair at the nip of his neck. All too soon though, we are both pulling away for air.
He lays his forehead against mine as he now wraps his arms around my waist and mine stay around his neck. He gives me one last peck before he’s smiling, making me smile too.
“I’ve wanted to do that since fourth grade…” he whispers out as he nudges my nose with his.
“Well… why didn’t you?” I ask him with a giggle when his face scrunches up.
“Why didn’t you kiss me?” he sassily asks and I giggle again.
“Because I didn’t know how you felt. I didn’t want to risk losing you,” I admit and he chuckles, shaking his head.
“I had the same reasoning,” he admits and I grin before we both start laughing.
“Wait, so we’ve both been oblivious idiots this whole time?” I ask and he nods while still laughing.
“I could have told you that! As a matter of fact, I did!” Alex shouts from downstairs, making me and Luke laugh harder.
“Well, that’s definitely one way to do it,” I giggle out and Luke shrugs.
“I guess so, bee…” he says with a grin on his face and I immediately look down at my socks.
“You figured it out!” I excitedly exclaim and he nods, smiling.
“That I did. How could I forget about bee? Now if we had known that all we had to was get bumblebee striped socks and shoes that matched mine, maybe we would’ve had you in shows years ago,” Luke jokes with an eye roll and I scoff.
“Oh, shut up. At least now I’m just like you,” I tell him with a grin and he smiles more, if that’s even possible.
“Yes, you are and I love it,” he tells me with a smile before pulling me back to him by the waist.
“Can I kiss you again?” he asks and I giggle.
“Well you didn’t even ask the first time around, but you're lucky I love you or else it’d be a no,” I joke before realizing what I had actually said and I pause, waiting for his response.
“I love you too, sweetheart,” he replies with a big cheeky smile and I can’t help but smile with him.
“I’m going to kiss you now,” he jokingly tells me and I smile, nodding.
He leans forward and kisses me again. This time feels just like the first, so full of love and care. I smile into the kiss as does he before again we’re pulling away.
“You gonna come give me those cuddles now?” he asks and I laugh before playfully sighing.
“I guess we can go cuddle now…” I reply playfully and he grins.
“Ok. Come on,” he tells me and before I know it, I’m being pulled towards the ladder.
We make it down to the bottom and he pulls me over to his couch before he’s plopping down onto it. He looks up at me before holding his arms out and doing grabby hands like a five year old would. I laugh as I sit down on the couch.
He wraps his arms around me and I cuddle into his chest. I sigh when all he brings is a protective warmth over me. Soon before I know it, my eyes slowly drop and I’m off into dreamland, sleeping peacefully in my best friend's arms (well, boyfriend now, I guess). Only the peaceful sleep doesn’t last very long because soon I’m jumping awake.
“Are you wearing shoes?!” Alex shouts as I sleepily look up at him.
“Yes, I am. Now go away, I’m going back to sleep,” I grumble as I cuddle back into Luke, who lets out a small breathy laugh and that’s the last thing I hear before falling back into a deep, peaceful sleep.
The End…
Regret and guilt, forgive or forget?
Chapter two: Camp reunion
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Steve harrington x Plus-size reader x Luke Patterson.
Prev. Or. Next.
Plot: You’ve arrived at camp, finally after needed a break. You reunite with your friends after four years of not seeing them. Feeling started to show up again and he returns them. You couldn’t deny how he makes you feel. Maybe things will happen if you let them. It’s a Sumer full of love.
Notes: Is this a Julie and the phantoms cross over? Yes. So don’t come after me. Also I really like this chapter but I hate the way it’s written but it look me so many hours to finish so I’m not redoing it. So it sucks, my apologies. I tried something new.
Warnings: Nothing really you’ll just have to find out. No spoilers.
The girl stepped out of the bus and onto the ground. The suns heat hit her skin as the she heard other people chatter loudly.
"Welcome to Camp Symphony" A girl with a camp t-shirt on handed girl hand her a paper with the map of the camps grounds.
The H/c girl smiled and said her thanks, she looked around at all the people getting of the buses and the forest around her.
She started heading towards the big wooden building that everyone was going to. It was beautiful out here, to the trees and the stone paths. She could see some flowers and buildings in the distance.
Once she was half way there a voice called out from behind her.
"Hey beautiful, miss me"
Y/n stopped and her heart start to pick up, a warmth in her body started to rise up because she knew that voice. She knew who he was. So a smile found its way to her face as she turns around.
A boy with shaggy brown hair, hazel eyes and light pale skin. His muscles poked out his sleeveless shirt, and she wasn’t surprised that he had that one. But the smile on his handsome face is what made her feel at home. She missed him. No, she missed them.
“I’m sorry. Do I know you?” She tilted her head in question but he knew to well by the cocky look on her face that she was joking.
“Me? That depends, have you seen me in your dreams” he stepped closer and gave her a smirk. He knew how to flirty with girls but this wasn’t something new that he did to her. This was their thing.
“Only in my nightmares” At her words he swing his hands up to his heart acting hurt. “Oh you wound me” she tried her best not to laugh.
“I’m y/n” She held her hand for him to shake and he didn’t even look down at her hand and only at in her eyes. “Luke” He took her hand and shakes it.
It was silent as they both looked at one another. With only a few seconds of staring at each other, they quickly moved towards the other and into a embrace.
He wrapped his arms around her wider body and pulled her close, and she did the same to him. Best friends reunited again after all the time away from each other.
“You can’t believe how happy we are to have you back” He let out a happy chuckle as he still held onto her waist while pulling apart.
“I needed a break. You guys are family and I missed you, if I didn’t miss you so much I wouldn’t be out here in the hot ass Sun” Non of that was a lie but she was really happy to be here.
“Then we should get you inside? Benny goes over everything and the guys are in there” He stepped away and took ahold of her hand.
She giggled as he pulled her to the building. She forgot about everything else but this moment. Hawkins, her other friends. Or the man that left her heartbroken.
As he dragged you into the doors of the big building you saw rows of people and some empty ones as people where still getting here. It was a lot of people and it made you feel intimidated since you were the biggest girl in the room. Or people will have their eyes on you.
“Most people are nice here. Plus you have us” he watched as you looked around the room and he remembered how you got. He turned away to look for the rest of your small group but before he could stop what was about to happen. It happened.
You felt a big impact crush into you and wrapped around you. Two boys hugged you and cheered as they held you tight, you let out laughs but then also felt suffocated.
“It’s y/n” another dark haired boy said while into your neck. “I figured that out” a blond taller boy said from over your shoulder. Your arms patted both their backs.
“Hello to you too” they finally pulled away and you could see the happiness on their faces.
“You look amazing” The darker haired boy, the one you knew as Reggie, the biggest flirt you knew, gave you a wink. But Luke pushed him back a bit so he stopped.
“What he means to saying is that you look great.” The blond one, Alex said. You knew he wasn’t flirting with you since he wasn’t into people like you. He wasn’t into girls at all.
“Right back at you guys. We seem to have all grown up a little since the last time” They all nodded. Alex started to walk into the sitting row and all of you followed.
“I can’t believe you came” They all missed you so much. “To be honest I wasn’t planning on it” You took a set down next to alex and Reggie was about to set next to you but Luke pushed him out the way when you weren’t looking.
“What do you mean by that” Luke asked while sitting next to you.
“Well I had a lot of plans this summer, then” you stopped when the memory’s you just forgot about came back. “It was suddenly freed up” they looked at you in worry. Alex looked in pity.
Luke stared at you from the side and noticed your body language and the sadness hint in your eyes that wasn’t there before. He was going to ask but got interrupted.
“Good morning campers” A boys voice came through the microphone as everyone took their seats. You looked forward and saw him at the front of everyone.
“I am so glad to see all your beautiful faces here today.” Luke rolled his eyes and you caught him in the acted and leaned close to him.
“What’s that about” you whispered at him and he just shook his head.
“You’ll see” And you leaned back and watched as he went on.
Tumblr media
By the end of it, your face was red and almost all the other girls were too. The guy Benny, Luke mentioned earlier, had taken his shirt off for some reason that you couldn’t remember.
“Now that we’re at the end, you guys have been spread into teams for four. Some of you payed extra to get into groups with friends. Others are paired randomly and by age.” You kicked yourself for not even checking for the opinion.
“I see why you don’t like him” You giggle at Luke and he nodded his head. “He didn’t even have a good reason for it” you shrugged at his comments and stared back at the shirtless guy.
“He has a good reason to me” Alex nodded in agreement from beside you.
“Oh please, he isn’t half as jacked as I am” Luke said flexing his muscles. You rolled your eyes and got up with the rest of them, to the front to get your schedule.
“It’s not about being super jacked, I mean Steve isn’t jacked” you didn’t fully understand what you said until you said it. For a moment you forgot you and him weren’t together.
“Steve?” Reggie and Luke questioned you at the same time. But Alex tensed up.
“Who? Oh look it’s the girls line” you quickly went over to the line of girls and hoped they would forget about it and not question you later.
“Who the hell is Steve” Luke walked with them. “No clue” Alex replied quickly but Reggie had he’s own ideas and a grin grew in his face.
“Maybe it’s her boyfriend” Luke’s head spun towards up at reggie. You would have told him, right?
“Guys stop she clearly didn’t want to talk about it. Leave it for another day, it’s time to have good times like we used to” Alex pointed out. They both nodded to agree but Luke couldn’t stop thinking about you having a boyfriend.
As you got your schedule you waited for them in the corner of the room. But they aren’t the only once’s who noticed you or wanted your attention.
“You must be new” A voice you recognized said from close behind you. You turned around to see the boy named Benny who spoke earlier. He had a shirt on this time.
“Oh yeah I have friends who invited me.” You smiled at him with your schedule in hand. “Well, I’ll have to thank them” He flashed a smile and you almost couldn’t believe that he was talking to you.
“Y/n” You both looked towards the area your name had been called. You saw your friends walking towards you and relief washed over you.
“Have you looked at your schedule yet” Alex was the first to come over and talk like he didn’t even see Benny.
“No” you answered him. Reggie came over in the other side of you. Luke however stayed close to Benny almost to protect you if he went too close.
“Patterson” Benny glared at Luke as he did the same but with with a smirk. “Madden” Luke replied and crosses his arms.
“Well I have to get things done, it was nice meeting you y/n” Benny smiles at you but glares at all of the boys around you before walking off.
“Is he that bad?” You asked as they nodded.
“Each year he finds someone new, then has his way then repeats” You made a “o” with your mouth and looked down at your paper.
“It’s says I’m in group…” You looked at the name and a huge grin spends its way onto your lips as you looked up.
“Patterson” Luke winked at you. “You think I’d let you go with anyone else then us” he put his arm around your shoulders and brought them close.
“You paid for me?” You couldn’t stop your heart from fluttering at the thought he would do that for you. He stared right into your eyes and a spark you haven’t noticed before caught your eyes.
“Of course i would” the other two boys looked between you two and gave the other knowing looks.
“I’d do anything for you” He didn’t say those words out loud but he thought them.
“Thank you” you give him a smile and then looked at the others not to make it look weird or anything. “Can you show me around?” Reggie was the first to pop up at your side.
“My lady” He held out his arm for you to take and of course you took it, gigging in the process. And then he dragged you off.
“I just noticed how you haven’t changed” Alex put his hands in his pockets while they watch you walk off with Reggie.
“What are you taking about?” Like tore his gaze from you and to Alex confused.
“You still have a crush” The smirk on Alex face and his words made Luke flustered.
“I do not” Alex raised a brow as Luke crosses his arms and puffed out his now red cheeks.
“You look at her like you did when we were kids, and trust me I know when you have a crush. I’m the one you come to when you ask about what to get girls” Alex explained but luke wasn’t having any of it.
“I’m just happy to see her again, no romantic involved. Now lets go before he does something stupid” Luke walked away from Alex.
“Idiot” Alex mumbled a huff and followed Luke.
Tumblr media
It’s been five days since you’ve arrived at the camp, and you couldn’t believe all the fun you’ve been having. You haven’t seen your friends in three years and you missed their company so much.
“I can’t believe you said that” you guys finally walking back to camp from a day of exploring. It was getting dark at the camp, and they were going to have some sort of sing along.
“It’s true! He couldn’t even sing. What was i supposed to do” Luke raised his voice slightly and you just shrugged a laugh.
“Something other then that.” You carefully walked over the tree roots. Alex and Reggie walked in front of the two of you.
“He wasn’t leaving” Alex added and you gasped a bit. “Not you too” he only put his hands up. “You weren’t there”
You guys came back into the big building with all the seats and sat at last row to the door. You sat on the outside of the row.
Before Luke could take a seat next to you, Alex took it first. He knew that you two were growing close again because he saw the looks you two gave each other.
Of course he knew you two could be good to each other but he can’t let what happened again. When you moved away Luke took it the hardest since he knew the longest, had a stronger bond and he wouldn’t admit it but he had feelings for you.
Alex knew what happened before you came here with Steve because you called him. You both kept in touch more but not often, but he knew Steve and you were in a relationship.
When you received the letter you called him immediately and told him everything and asked if you should actually come. He knew you were hurting and not fully recovered so maybe you two having feelings for each other wasn’t good at the moment.
But undoubtedly he wanted you to get together, he just thought it should be later.
So when Luke glared at him he ignored it. “You like sing alongs right” Alex questions from beside you.
“Haven’t really been to one” you replied.
Then ten minutes later and you haven’t said anything yet. They all were love songs. And it reminded you of Steve, you tried not to let it. But everything reminded you of him.
You glanced around the room and your eyes noticed a boy and his hair look exactly like Steve’s. And he was singing with another girl and she looked perfect, skinny and pretty.
Stomach dropping and you could feel your body get ready to cry and break. “I think I’m heading to bed” you stood up and put your arms around your plum belly trying to hide it.
“What are you-” before anyone could ask you ran out the door. The look on your face had them all worried. But Luke’s heart ached at the sight of you being so sad.
“I should-”before Alex could even make it out of his seat he was slight pushed back down. Luke pushed him down.
“No I’ll go” he walked passed him and out the door. Alex wanted to stop it but you guys had to talk at least once alone, and what’s the worse that could happen.
“Was it my fault?” Reggie asked from beside him in a sad voice.
“No, no. Not your fault” Reggie sighed in relief.
“Y/n” you heard luke shout from behind you, causing you to speed up more. You already had tears rolling down from your eyes. You couldn’t control it anymore.
“Y/n, what’s wrong?” You hear his voice get closer and the sounds of his running feet hit the leaves on the ground. You we’re about to tell him to leave you alone but you tripping on a tree root. Fuck, why didn’t you take the stone path.
You fell onto the ground and that just broke you even further. You let out a sob as Luke finally reached you. “Darling, what’s wrong” you haven’t heard that nickname in a long time.
You tried to push him away as he leaned next to you but he wouldn’t budge. Taking you in his arms once again and held you close.
“It’s okay, I’ve got you” He’s voice was soft and gentle towards you and his body felt warm against you.
You felted protect and safe. He made you feel better. And soon your cries stopped and your breath died down. He felt his heart at ease again knowing you had calmed down.
“You want to go somewhere private? You can talk to me there” He helped you back up.
You didn’t trust your voice but you nodded at him to give him the answer and he smiled grabbing your hand and lead you into the woods. Taking the stone paths this time.
He never let go over your hand, and you didn’t mind. You felt safe with him so this wasn’t unusual for friends to do. Friends hold hands all the time, so no reason you freak out.
Soon you saw a dock and a lake come into view the moon shining off it. “Woah” you said admiring the beautiful lake in front of you.
“Yeah” Luke agreed but he wasn’t looking at the lake but at you. He admired everything about your face, to your eyes and then to your nose and then your lips. He felt himself looking at every detail from the side.
But he quickly caught himself and turned away. “I know, I’m the best” he walked backwards towards you and pointed at himself.
“You take all your girls here?” You joked and walked with him. He winks at you “Only you doll face” You laughed at his remark.
He turned back around as both of you walked towards the end. Luke sat on the bench and looked up at you. His eyes twinkled as the moon hit them and you swear the moon light hit his face just right.
“Want to tell me what’s wrong?” he asked with a hint of hope in his voice that you would trust him. You look a second and caved, sitting next to him quickly.
“It’s a lot” you put your hands beside you down on the bench. But he reached down put his hand over yours.
“I have all night” He said in a playful manner but he was serious. He would stay up all night just to make sure you felt heard.
“I fell in love. Steve was his name” Luke’s heart squeezed as he heard the word “love” and the boys name you mentioned earlier.
“He was a douchebag when I meant him, the school’s popular guy. He got every girl just by walking by, and he wasn’t the nicest to every one. But then it all changed one day after he got together with her” It was your turn for your heart to squeeze.
“Nancy wheeler, school’s good girl. She was smart, pretty and beautiful. She was everything I wanted to be and soon I noticed how good he treated her and how I wish I was her. Then something brought us all together, then I got to see up close that he wasn’t a bad guy.
Soon they feel apart, she loved another. I was there beside him and I guess he clinched onto the first thing he saw. He called me beautiful every day, kissed me and treated me just like he did her. At first. Then about a few weeks ago he stopped all of it. Never told me he loved me or called me beautiful it was like he stop trying.
So at the last senior party Steve dragged me to it, it went so quick. He got drunk and tired to force me to dance with him and then his hand slipped and he spilt his drink on me. Robin was the one who came and found me in the bathroom, she’s my best friend but I wished it was him. Because when I came out the bathroom I found him kissing Nancy.
I should have saw it coming by the way he looked at me then her. I wasn’t ever going to be her. I mean look at me” you paused as you stood up with anger in your voice. You walked closer to the edge.
“I could never be someone first choice. I’m fat, too nice and annoying. All I want is to be beautiful” You looked down at your reflection in the water below.
“What the fuck are you taking about” luke shouted from behind you, and you turned quickly with shock.
“You are beautiful. I have no idea what the hell that guy was seeing but it wasn’t you because he should’ve said it every second.” Luke looked pissed as he moves towards you.
“I grew up with you so I know the person you are deep down. The one who would never hurt anyone, the kindest person I’ve ever meant.” He stopped and gazed into your eyes.
“And the most beautiful”
Pound..
Pound…
Pound…
That’s what both of your hearts sounded like. You shouldn’t feel the way towards your friend.
“Y/n” He reached for your hand but you pulled away. But when you took a step back your foot didn’t hit anything so you lost your balance.
Shit.
Then you fell into the water. Luke watched you disappear into the water. “Y/n” he yelled as you came up to the surface. Your hair wet and clothes sticking sticking to your body.
But what he didn’t expect was your laugh. You were laughing. It wasn’t a light hearted one but a full one. He leaned down and laughed softly with you.
“Fuck it” he dove down next you and the water splashed into your face. He came back up and flipped his hair, both of you socking wet now.
“It’s surprisingly warm” he said while moving his arms. “It’s the summer” You replied with a laugh. He gave you a look and you knew a fight was about to break out.
“Oh no you don’t” You quickly made the first move and slashed him. He took the splash and then returned the favor. It hit you and you let out a gasp.
“That’s what you get” you looked at him and glared. Soon you two started to repeatedly slashed one other. It went on for quite a while until luke had enough.
“You’ll pay for that” He quickly moved towards you and grabbed your waist. He start to rapidly push small slashes onto your face and you begged him to stop while laughing.
His arm around your waist held you close to his body. Both of you didn’t notice in the moment but your body’s did. Both of you felt warm inside.
Soon you coughed as it got into your mouth but you also couldn’t stop laughing. So even thought he was worried he also couldn’t stop laughing with you.
“You bitch” You said between coughing and laughs. He just throws his head back and laughed harder.
You noticed his shirt sticking to his toned chest and your eyes fluttered at bit. You never really noticed how good it looks- No..stop. This isn’t normal. You still loved Steve…Right?
You looked away just as the laughs stopped from both of you and left you two silent. And the silence was loud. Filled with so much wonderful.
“Y/n”
“Luke”
You both said each others name at the same time. You broke out into a nervous smile as he moves closer to you.
“You don’t deserve to feel like he made you. You know that your beautiful” You looked away from him and into the water fade away from you.
“Look at me” he put his fingers on your chin and pushed your head back to his. Faces inch’s easy from each other and he made sure to keep you looking at him.
“The moons jealous as it shines on your skin” his fingers move to your cheek and caresses it. “Because only in this moment it knows true beauty” this feeling wasn’t going away.
Not matter how hard you tried to push the feel away you couldn’t. You looked down at his lips and his eyes followed towards yours. Then you felt body moves on its own and leaned into him.
You both stop, lips almost touching if the slightest movement were made. “What are we do-“ before you could finish his lips crashed onto yours.
You kissed him back and wrapped your arms around his neck as both of his hands found your waist again. This feeling of being appreciated and safe hit you in a flash.
You remember feeling this way right before you left your home town. Leaving your friends behind and him. You had fallen for the boy when you where younger because he saw you and treated you good. Made you feel like you deserved love.
He gripped your waist tight as a groan left his lips and brought you closer. His heart was racing as fast as yours because he felt the same relief when kissing you. He was in love with you for years but only discovering it when you left.
He couldn’t have you that’s why he was so heart broken when you left. His best friend and his first love just disappeared from his life.
Maybe it was built up tension from all those years ago…But if that’s what it was you weren’t going to stop it.
But someone else could..
“Y/n” Alex voice called from the woods. “Luke” Reggie’s voice followed his. You both pulled apart and both flustered.
“We’re here” you shouted as you fixed yourself. Try to acted normal…
You heard their foot steps get closer on the wooden deck above you. Soon you saw their faces looking down at you both and confusion set on their faces.
“What are you guys doing?“ Reggie question.
“Late night swim” He hummed in reply and Alex looks between the two of you. The look on Luke’s face gave it all away.
“Mind if we join you?” Alex asked and Reggie turn to him.
“But I don’t want to-“ he let out a yelp as Alex pushed him into the lake. The blond boy took off his hat and shoes then jumped in.
“How about a warning let time” Reggie whined while holding his nose trying to get the water out. You and Luke burst out laugh as Alex came back up.
“You deserve it” Reggie pouted and then grabbed the blond boy and dunked him under. “I’ll show you who deserves it” The boys roughly tried to drag each other into the water.
You and Luke glanced at each other but a evil grin appears on your faces. You pulled the boys apart from each other and gave them a minute to relax.
“Now!” You shout and took ahold of Alex’s shoulders and dunked him under while Luke dunked reggie under. You both laughed as the came back up with gasps.
This was how the night went on laughing with your friends like you needed. You guys stayed out there for about two hours but finally got out. Still had chats and pushing each other while making back to your cabins.
The first cabin you came to was the boys. You had your wet shoes in your hand while you looked at each of them. “Goodnight boys” Your eyes flickered to all of them and turned around.
Alex looked at luke as he looks at you. “Go” he whispered and hit his chest. It was dark and they had clearly interrupted something earlier.
It didn’t take much time for Luke to finally catch up with you. “Why can’t we go” Reggie asked. But Alex look between the two of you and Reggie got it. “O” he realized. He smirked at you two then Alex dragged him inside before he could watch.
You both walked in silence again but this time it was more tension fulled then it ever has before.
Her lips so kissable. Skin so soft and plush. Her body perfect in my arms….His thoughts went on
Hands so rough but hold me so soft. The breaths he let out. The feeling of his body against mine….Her thoughts went on
Fuck they were already back at her cabin. Not looking at each other you stop. You had to talk about it. Come one spit it out. It was just a kiss.
“We should” Your words in unison. And turned to each other.
“Lady’s first” you watched as he put a hand up to his wet hair. He looks nervous and frustrated and you took that as a bad thing. You shouldn’t have kissed him and bod he regrets it.
“I was going to agree that we should forget what just happened” His breath stopped and his stomach twist. You wanted to forget it? Fuck, he shouldn’t have kissed you. You were vulnerable and hurt and he just took advantage.
“Forget” he stutter and tried to stand up straight. “Yeah, forget. That’s exactly what I was thinking” He was lying. He wanted to remember and talk about it. To kiss you again if he could.
“Okay, good” You clicked you tongue and nodded your whole body. “Goodnight Luke” you turned your heel and walked into your cabin with out another word.
He watches you walk away. His whole body screaming to call after you, run after you and kiss you. But he never did all he could do was watch in regret.
Maybe it really just was relief from all those years. He couldn’t blame you for it because he was the one who pushed on. He leaned in first and he could tell you needed someone to comfort you.
He shouldn’t have kissed you and he knew that but why did his heart not care? Why would he do it again and again if he could go back.
He walked back to his cabin while you stayed in yours.
As soon as you closed the door you took a look around to see all your fellow bunk mates asleep. You leaned against the door. Your wished he went after you.
You felt stupid for feeling anything again. He kissed you because he felt bad for you. You loved you so much that he would do anything to make you feel better even if it meant kissing you.
Luke went back to his cabin and both pairs of eyes were on him. “How’d it go?” Reggie asked wiggling his eyes but Luke walked right passed them.
“Fine. It’s been a long night so I’m heading to bed” He grabbed his clothes and went into the bath.
They watch him with pity both knowing it didn’t go fine.
Tumblr media
It’s been one week and two days since that night and you haven’t mentioned the kiss and to your surprise it wasn’t awkward. Or at least it wasn’t shown.
Hell his flirting didn’t even stop but you missed the look he gave you when you turned your head. But other then that it was like it had never happen.
And since it was the last day of camp, you all tried to make it the best day yet.
Starting off with breakfast. You guys found your way to the eating area and had a fun time. Between laughing, story yelling and a bit of food thrown.
Then the camps last games. You didn’t really partake in the big ones but you guys made your own games. Like you and Alex against Luke and Reggie in arm wrestling, tug of war, and other games.
Then it was hiking in the woods trying to collect flags for your team together but you guys ended up in last place since you guys got distracted.
Then they had a bright idea of sneaking into the band room. You followed of course. And you finally agreed to sing along with them this time.
You and Luke tried to not stare at each other while singing but it was like all times. The other eyes looking between you as usual.
“Cause we’re standing on the edge of great” You sung again as you walked back to the piano and began to play. You’ve knew how to play since you were little but you never did it anymore. Now you had a reason to.
You felt the movement of the chair you sat on and looked at the person who sat down next to you. You both leaning close to each other.
“Running from the passed. Tripping on the now. What is lost can be found, it’s obvious” You both looked down at your lips and back up to the eyes. You both didn’t move but by the look on Luke’s face he finally caught you.
“Okay. I think it’s lunch time” Alex said breaking the two of you up. Your cheeks burned with heat as Luke grinned. “Coming” Luke got up and followed Reggie out.
“You really like him don’t you” Alex immediately asked as soon as they were out the door. You shot up and went into panic mood.
“What?- No I don’t- It’s not like that” but even though you kept on trying to deny it Alex just gave you a dead stare. He didn’t believe you.
“I don’t know” you screamed as your hands flow into the air. “He makes me feel things, makes me happy. We kissed and then promised to forget it but I can’t. But part of me wants to. I don’t know if what I’m feeling is just because I’m broken or what. But I don’t want to lose him” Putting your head in your hands as you sat back down.
“I don’t want to lose him” you repeated.
Alex sat down next to you and put his hands in his pockets. “You know I have someone back home. He makes me feel like I’m on cloud nine and when I’m away I can’t stop thinking of him.” You listen closely.
“I know what love looks like and I know you and Luke. You guys can’t be away from each other, the staring is all you two do anymore. I know being heartbroken is hard and confusing so you have to decide if this is real or not.” Alex took ahold of your hand and you rested your head onto his shoulder.
“The feeling are there but you guys have to decide if it’s just a fling or lasting. Either is fine if you do it right. I mean you both care for each other and love one other so I’m sure you guys can come to agreement” his voice of reason was the only thing that was actually getting through your head at the moment.
Then the thought of Steve running through your head as you knew you missed him deeply. You tried to push it away when really you should have focused on it and got over it.
Maybe being in Luke’s arms was your way to be whole again.
It was the last lunch of the day, the moment all the campers regrets since after this ended they had to get on the bus and go home. Some students drove and but most kids under 18 had to take the bus home.
“I can’t believe this is our last moments together” you sat down with lunch in your hand. The Boys glanced at each other before nodded.
“It’s so sad” Reggie cried but it sounded like he was being sarcastic. Woah, that hurt.
“I had a fun time this summer, with all of you” glancing to everyone at the table. “I don’t want it to end” You looked down sad knowing the time with them is up.
“I can’t take it anymore” Reggie groaned as the others glared at him. “Shut up” Alex kicks his leg from under the table.
“What are you talking about?” You looked back up at him but before Luke could over his mouth he started to talk.
“We planned to come back home with you since we wanted to spend more time with you. We brought Lukes car and everything” he rambles on.
They already planned this? He knew already? They all did! You couldn’t believe they would do that for you, you really loved them. “You guys” you awed at them.
“That is the sweetest thing ever”
“It’s all Lukes idea” Reggie lets out a groan as Luke hits him.
“You did that?” Luke’s looked away for a moment then back at you. Hoping he didn’t do anything bad.
“Yeah”
You smiled at him and took his hand from across the table. “Thank you” you looked back at the other boys.
“All of you” Letting go of his hands you started to talk about everything you wanted to show them. Your hang outs, your friends and so many things.
You were bringing your friends to Hawkins. It was going to be like two worlds colliding, and it was going to be awesome.
What could go wrong?
Tumblr media
“What do you know?” Steve followed Robin around the store as they were about to close.
“I don’t know anything! All I know know is that it should be her last day” Robin frustratingly stocked the tapes.
“Today? I have to call Dustin-“
“You’re calling that child”
“Dustin is actually really smart, and he knows y/n too so maybe we can-“
“Y/n is my best friend, steve. I knew her before you even paid attention to her. So you drive to get us food then to Dustin’s house and make a plan” He stopped when his mind flys somewhere else.
“Wait you don’t think she meet someone else do you?” Steve question and Robin stopped for a moment. That was all the Steve needed.
“Oh shit” he stepped back and leaned on the counter.
“I didn’t say anything”
“But you hesitated that means their is a possibility”
“It’s summer camp Steve. What did you expect to happen, if she did its ended by now. Just a fling, not like she’s being him home” But just the thought of her being with someone else had his heart aching.
He needed to make it all up to her. That’s all he’s been able to think about, was her.
But little did they know that what Robin said was true. Y/n was bring him home. And for better or worse the two boys loved her.
A war was near. And if they had their way the other wouldn’t survive it.
Troubadour - Luke Patterson
Summary: YOU’RE THE VOICE I HEAR INSIDE MY HEAD THE REASON THAT I’M SINGING I NEED TO FIND - not quite but Luke gets a set of chords stuck in his head and it turns out they’re yours.
A/N: I went with this one (but like Sunset Curve in the 90’s style) sharing songs = they keep hearing songs that they can’t find on the internet, finally realizing that they are their soulmate’s own, unpublished songs
✰ ✰ ✰ ✰
“What are you playing?”
Luke stopped mid-hum, fingers stilling on his guitar and looking over at Alex. They’d been taking a break from practice but Luke had been strumming the same few chords for the last couple minutes. It wasn’t unusual behaviour but Luke typically would’ve been writing down lyrics or trying to figure out the next piece of the song. As far as Alex could tell he was just transfixed on those chords and nothing else.
“Uh,” Luke faltered for a minute, racking his brain for the name of the song that had been stuck in his for the last few weeks. “I…I don’t know,” he admitted.
“Do you have anything written yet?” Reggie looked almost hopeful as he asked. He’d been sneaking lyrics into Luke’s notebook lately. They weren’t bad but they also weren’t Sunset Curve by a longshot.
“It’s not mine,” Luke explained, “I spent all day yesterday at the record store on palermo and still can’t find it…”
“Where’d you hear it first?” Alex asked, interest piqued at this bit of information. Luke had an undeniable ear for music. He could know a song just from the opening strum of the guitar or strike of the drums. It was unusual that he didn’t recognise a song he’d been playing over and over again.
“That’s the thing,” Luke admitted, setting his guitar in its stand and getting up to pace around the room. “I don’t really remember. Like I just woke up one morning and it was in my head.”
“And you haven’t heard it anywhere else?” Bobby asked, coming back into the garage with water bottles for the four of them.
“No.” Luke shook his head, getting a little frustrated with the questions but more so just because he felt like he didn’t have any of the answers he wanted. “It just was stuck in my head one day and I haven’t been able to find it anywhere. Look, it’s whatever. Let’s just get back to practice. Reggie wants to go to that show tonight-“
“We can’t miss it, it’s open mic once a month, if it seems like a good crowd, we should think about putting our names down.” Reggie replied, cutting Luke off. He’d been telling them about this venue for a couple weeks now, since he and Bobby had gone down there for a show and seen a flyer about their amateur band nights. Unsigned bands in LA could perform for fairly regular crowds. It was better than anything they’d been doing.
“We won’t miss it,” Bobby said, grabbing his guitar.
-
The crowd was a good one tonight, not packed but full enough that Luke felt the familiar warmth of being surrounded by eager concert-goers. Alex pushed forward, the other three following him to the edge of the stage. There was a band performing, a group of 20-something guys dressed more like accountants than rockers but their music was good.
As the set finished, Luke turned away from the stage, listening to Bobby talking about how it seemed so far. Trust him to be the most analytical of the four of them. Luke was always all about the music but Bobby had a head for the business side of things too. It didn’t take long to switch out instruments, none of the bands seemed interested in keeping the crowd waiting for too long, not when most of them were just trying to get their names out there.
Luke still had his back turned as the house lights dimmed and the next band came out.
-
You weren’t normally this nervous about performing but lately you’d had a song stuck in your head and it’d been distracting you from working on your own music. As soon as you sat down to write it was there in the back of your head. You’d had songs kind of, creep up on you before. Words or chords just got stuck until you wrote them out but something about this song told you it wasn’t something you’d dreamed up yourself. It didn’t feel like you at all, more like you were hearing someone else’s song in your ear.
You hadn’t told anyone about it and now you were getting ready to go on with your band, hopeful that you didn’t mess up, trying to combat the song in your head with your own chords.
The crowd had some good energy, seemingly more welcoming than when you had been here the last time. “Hey, thanks for letting us take up some of your time tonight, this song is a new one I’ve been working on. I think I finally got it, I’ll let you guys decide,” the comment was met with some laughs and you smiled, trying to calm your heart from going haywire in your chest, “alright, here we go.”
You started strumming and Luke turned around, his eyes wide as he stared up at you. All he could remember was what Reggie had said on the way over, these were all new bands that didn’t have records, that hadn’t been signed. You said yourself you had just finished the song you were singing, but, Luke knew that song.
“That’s the song,” he said, nudging Alex, “that’s the song!”
“What song?” Alex asked, turning so he could hear him better, “you mean the song you were playing earlier today?”
“yeah; that’s it.”
“How is that possible, Luke, we’ve never seen these guys play before.” Alex reasoned. It didn’t make any sense that Luke would know a song before it even existed in the world, “maybe you’ve just got some chords stuck in your head and it sounds like that.”
“No,” Luke shook his head and looked back up at the stage. It was impossible to really see the crowd, he knew that, he’d been on stage enough times to know that you’re really just looking out at silhouettes. But as he looked up you turned your head and he swore your eyes locked with his. He could feel a pounding in his chest like the nerves he got before a show, sweat beaded on the back of his neck and goosebumps erupted on his skin. It was like his whole body was mirroring yours and you looked like you knew.
He wanted to pull you off stage and ask you how you’d done it. How had he heard that song in his head when it was only just finished, how had the words all seemed so familiar when just that afternoon he couldn’t remember any of them. Luke was stuck in that moment until he felt the house lights come up and he was blinking from the change, turning his head back and forth. He felt like he’d been dreaming, if he pinched himself he almost expected to wake up in the garage again.
“Luke!” Alex grabbed his arm and brought him back down to reality. He was awake after all, “where are you going? The next band is getting ready to play.”
“I have to find that singer…that, I…that’s the song.”
I Am All In Rewatch - Luke & Jess - Episode 2x8
You know, Milo knocked me out in this episode. He really did. He showed what a skilled, subtle actor he is. And he's just really easy on the eyes. I mean, there isn't a bad angle and I just kept thinking, why didn't this guy become a movie star because he had... you know, maybe he just didn't feel modern enough. I don't know. Was he kind of a, does he, at that time, did he feel like a throwback?... I mean, rebellious and Solon and withdrawn and, you know, soft spoken. I mean, that's all very powerful..Just, I mean, talk about if you were going to build an actor for stardom, it would look and sound and feel like Milo, it really would. -Scott
It’s not unexpected—for some reason, from Luke it was never going to be unexpected. His lips taste like oranges, and she recalls how he used to try and peel clementines in a ring without breaking the skin into bits.
From it always leads to you in my hometown by @willexmagic (must be logged into ao3 to read)
mean luke danes fic? Smut preferably? Age gap and size kink please? Xx
hello! I'm sorry it's a bit short, but I hope you like it! I'm also trying to write more of my non-chris/seb requests as I probably write too much of them, and it's probably unfair for those of you who want to read for another man. also, age and size kink/gap/difference is already applied to my fics.
warning - smut, choking, tummy bulge, mean luke.
18+ only please, the gif I use isn't mine, divider by @newlips
A sharp moan escapes you as Luke pushes your face into the mattress, thrusting into your tight cunt brutally. “Shut up! You never know when to keep your mouth shut!” He growls, his voice rough as he fucks into you. “Why do you think your in this position, huh?”
You whimper, gripping the sheets underneath you. A whine leaves you as Luke’s fist wraps around your hair, making a makeshift ponytail as he pulls you up against his chest. “Was it because you were being a brat all day?” You nod, pushing yourself back on his cock as moans continue to fall from your lips.
“Y–yes! I was a brat! I’m sorry!” Your eyes screw up from the pleasure, and you can feel his cock deep inside your stomach. His brutal thrusts make you see stars, “Luke! Please!” You cry, and your hands move around to grab any part of him.
Luke’s hand comes around your body, making its way up to your throat and grips tightly. “Shut up! Don’t you see how much of a whore you are?! Letting an old man like myself fuck you!” He grunts, pulling your tiny body flush against him. “Look how fucking tiny you are compared to me!” The moan that falls from your lips causes his cock to throb. “Feel this bulge. That’s my cock deep inside you.” His hand pushes on the bulge forming underneath your flesh.
Your eyes roll back, not being able to hold on anymore. Your walls pulse around Luke’s thick throbbing member as you let go, sucking him deeper into you. The feel of you squeezing his cock causes Luke to thrust a few more times before burying himself deep inside you, releasing thick spurts of cum, and filling you to the brim.
i've been thinking a lot about these parallels
my newest obsession meets my longest one.
Luke's life was music. He didn't love anything else than that. Then he met Julie.
Tumblr media
Carmy was the best chef at 21 and after his brother died, he wanted nothing more than fix Mike's restaurant so it could be a place ran by adults. Then he met Sydney.
Tumblr media
just like sydcarmy, juke makes each other better:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
my twinssss
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so, yeah, i think a lot about them
and also about the fact that Luke brought music back to Julie's life and Carmy hires Sydney and inadvertently makes food good again for her. Both Luke and Carmy see their potential and do whatever it takes to bring it to surface. They're down BADDD
Syd's failed in the past, but Carmy sees the undeniable passion within her and harness her talent to do big things. So does Luke with Julie's talent.
bonusssss:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
like, both of them fully turning around ready to follow their annoyed soulmates just tickles my heart in a different way, i guess
➻ word count: 2515
➻ content: she/her pronouns for reader
➻ wrote this on a whim tonight so enjoy my first luke fic lol !!
════ ⋆★⋆ ════
You tapped your fingers impatiently against your desk, willing Spotify to reload quicker, visualising the album you knew was dropping in two minutes. Finally, after 120 seconds that could have been an hour, Julie and the Phantom’s new album was out and available, and you actually might’ve been the first person to listen to it.
You’d been following Julie and the Phantoms since their very first performance was put on YouTube. Admittedly you’d been hopping on the bandwagon — your friends had been raving about it at school and force-fed you their songs, but you’d been genuinely addicted to their music ever since.
Pressing play on the new album you got up, leaving it to play as you began on your errands for the day. You danced around your apartment, putting away the washing and vacuuming and humming along to the singles that had already been released.
Luke was on his way home from his morning run when he could have sworn he could hear his own voice. Stopping, he pulled an earbud out of his ear, looking around for the source of the music. And there, on the third floor, was you. You were out on the balcony, organising the cute set of outdoor furniture you’d shoved in there and dancing ridiculously to Luke’s personal favourite song of the album. He let out a quiet laugh to himself, admiring the carefree way you jumped around, miming the chorus you’d learnt into a can of what appeared to be bug spray. He smiled once more before heading into the building, musing about the odds of having a Phantoms fan live on his floor.
Back up in his apartment he could still hear the music, both your open windows making it sound clear despite not being obnoxiously loud. Luke just shook his head, heading straight to the shower and turning on his own music so he didn’t have to be victim to his own voice all day.
An hour later, you were still listening. You’d just finished the album and evidently wanted to commit it to memory before the day was through. Luke thought it was adorable, and he could feel the gratitude flowing through every inch of him. This was why he wrote music, to resonate with people and make them happy. Plus, now that he knew the cute girl who’d just moved into the apartment opposite him liked his band, he figured he could build up some confidence to talk to you.
Morning turned to afternoon, and you were still playing his album. Luke was flattered, but in slight disbelief. He couldn’t believe you weren’t sick of it yet, though he supposed you didn’t get the same ick he did when listening to his voice. Hearing you learning the words was another bonus, your voice floating in through his kitchen window as he cooked. He thought it was lovely, though far from professional. It was an unreal experience hearing your disembodied voice stumbling through the lyrics, making up ones you’d evidently misheard and improvising your own riffs on top of Julie’s.
Luke wondered whether it was possible to develop a crush on someone based on just their voice. Yeah he thought you were cute the few times he’d seen you coming or going through his street facing window, but your laughter when your voice cracked had him weak in the knees.
When you were still playing his music by four o’clock — you’d branched out to mixing in the rest of their discography by then — he was a little worried for your sanity. Flattered and grateful for the streams, but concerned all the same. At the same time he was worried for himself. He’d offered to host his band and friends for a private celebration of the album release after the official party the night previous, and he thought it may be a little on the nose if you were still streaming their music into the night. He could already hear Alex making fun of him for living next to a fangirl (he did secretly hope you were a fangirl of him though).
So, whilst it wasn’t exactly the meet-cute he’d hoped for, Luke found himself knocking on your door. He knocked again shyly when he heard you turn down the volume, clearly trying to see if you’d heard right. A few soft footsteps on the other side of the door and it was cracking open, your curious expression greeting him. You’d only just moved in and didn’t know anyone to be visiting.
Luke watched you go through the seven stages of grief in real time. Confusion at an unexpected visitor, recognition of him, and then a million shades of humiliation as you realised you’d been listening to his music all day and he could hear. God, you probably looked like an obsessed fangirl (you were, but you didn’t want Luke Patterson to know that). With an embarrassed sound coming from the back of your throat, you asked Luke to give you twenty seconds of privacy. He agreed politely and you shut the door quickly. Slapping a hand to your mouth, you let out a silent scream, trying to let out all your anxious, embarrassed energy as quickly as possible, shaking your limbs about so you could stand still when you inevitably had to grovel for forgiveness to Luke.
Reopening your door, you were taken aback by how at ease Luke looked. And how much hotter he was in person, but you tried to push that thought to the back of your head for the sake of coherent conversation.
“Hi,” You said, resisting the urge to ramble out apologies.
“Hi,” He replied with that stupidly charming grin he wore in all his publicity shoots. “I’m Luke.”
“I know.” Fuck, you didn’t mean to say that. “Um, obviously. I’m sure you’ve heard all the…” You gestured inside to your apartment where his album was still playing quietly. You should’ve turned it off.
“Please don’t be embarrassed, it’s really cute.” Now your blush was for a totally different reason, your favourite singer was calling you cute? You had to be dreaming.
“Is there something I can do for you?” You asked, still unsure of the purpose of the visit, though you weren’t complaining.
“Oh!” Luke looked as if he really had forgotten why he’d come, but covered himself with an easy laugh, “I was just wondering if you could turn down your music a bit? It’s not too loud or anything, it’s not bothering me! It’s just, I’m having the band over tonight and as much as we’re all proud of the album, it feels a bit conceited to have it playing as we hang out privately, y’know?” You were nodding vigorously before he could finish his sentence, spilling out apologies for even playing it in the first place.
“Seriously don’t apologise,” He assured you, catching your eye in a way that made you feel like you couldn’t look away (not that you would’ve wanted to), “I really appreciate you being a fan and supporting us.” In that moment, entranced in his deep honey eyes, you honestly would have done whatever Luke Patterson asked of you, you were completely his. Maybe your parasocial relationships needed some examining.
Forcing yourself to end the moment despite your internal desires, you averted your eyes to the floor and Luke coughed slightly, both of you somewhat dazed.
“Right, well, it was really nice meeting you. Big fan. Guess I’ll see you around?” You said awkwardly, stepping back inside the threshold of your flat. Luke nodded in the same manner, and you were about to shut the door when he called for you to wait.
“Do you wanna come over later? You can meet the band, and it’s always helpful to make some friends in the building. I, uh, know you’re new here.” You nodded, more than surprised, but you sure as hell weren’t gonna turn down this opportunity.
“Yeah, that sounds nice. Thanks.” Luke named a time and you parted ways, neither of you catching the backwards glances you both chanced.
Inside your apartment was a whirlwind of stress. What did you wear for a dinner with your favourite band with an hour’s notice? You might’ve actually tried on half your wardrobe before deciding on your favourite jeans (maybe the ones that made your ass look impeccable, but who’s to say?) and a simple top. It wasn’t the most exciting outfit you could have come up with, not by a long shot, but you didn’t want to make a single wrong decision tonight. All you needed to do was be completely perfect and impress Julie and the Phantoms and maybe get Luke to like you back. Easy stuff.
By the time you were meant to be going you’d managed to do your makeup in a way that didn’t make you want to cry — why did it always turn out awful when you needed it to be good? Slipping your favourite hoops into your ears you were ready, and gave yourself a quick pep talk in the bathroom mirror. You’d never been one for those self-love affirmations, but they couldn’t hurt, right?
When Luke opened the door and his face broke into one of those smiles that lit up the building’s corridor, your nerves quieted themselves somewhat. He swept you under one of his arms leading you further into the apartment as if you’d been friends for years. You tried to take in what you could, and were a little jealous of how nicely his place was decorated — yours was still loaded with boxes and junk.
“Guys, meet my new friend!” Luke announced, and all the heads in the room snapped towards you.
“Um, hi,” You said meekly, remembering to tell them all your name.
“She’s new to the building and I thought it would be nice for her to make some friends!” You smiled internally — Luke had the same personality as in all the interviews you watched, which made you glad. You didn’t know what you would do if he wasn’t all that you imagined.
The night started out a little awkward, at least for you. You were so stressed about making a good impression that you felt a little robotic, answers calculated to try and get the most amount of laughs or agreements. Luke noticed this and gestured for you to take the seat between him and Julie when the meal was served, figuring you’d have the most in common with her, and he was more than happy to talk your ear off if the opportunity arose.
“So, why’d you come to California?” Julie asked, and you explained that you’d moved for school, but it was cheaper to rent the flat than live in the dorms. That in itself was an easy avenue into talking about your roommate who was never around and the classes you were taking this semester. When you asked about Nick, who was sitting on Julie’s other side, he happily joined the conversation to talk about how they got together just after the Phantoms began to get world famous and their (first) show at the Orpheum.
The dinner was loud and messy, and you began to feel right at home. With Reggie flicking beans at Alex, and Luke’s boisterous laughter ringing over conversation, there was a familial ambience to it all.
After the meal the group migrated towards the TV, and you found yourself next to Luke again, sandwiched between him and Willie, who introduced himself as Alex’s boyfriend. You recognised him from Alex’s Instagram, but you left that fact out. You found yourself making easy conversation with them, being the four who got Luke’s couch, whilst the others made themselves at home in armchairs and other seats scavenged from around the flat.
As you spoke to the couple about a restaurant in LA they were recommending, you felt a hand land on your thigh. A glance in his direction showed it was Luke’s, of course, but if his expression was anything to go by he was all but unaware, still speaking passionately to Nick about something. You tried to conceal your blush as your turned back to the gays, but the knowing looks had you hiding your face in your hands.
A movie was turned on and the chatter dulled somewhat, turned down to whispers over the dialogue. You didn’t know how you’d ended up cuddled up into Luke’s side, but you were absolutely not complaining. His arm on the back of the sofa had migrated to sitting around your waist at one point, and you were really hoping he couldn’t feel your racing heartbeat. An accidental glance in Julie’s direction showed her and Nick wiggling their eyebrows suggestively, to which you simply made a bewildered expression, hoping it conveyed how little idea you had of what was going on. Unbeknownst to you, Luke was fighting the same losing battle with the rest of the boys, who were making childish kissy faces when you weren’t looking. Luke handled it better than you, merely shrugging as if to say ‘she’s cute — what do you want me to do?’
A few hours later and the night was winding down. You took your leave after Reggie, not wanting to risk overstaying your welcome and jeopardising the friendships you hoped you were making. The remaining guests all gave you warm goodbyes, begging for you to come back again. Julie even swept you into a tight hug, making you promise you’d DM her to go out for coffee soon. Luke walked you to the door, a gentle hand on the small of your back not going unnoticed by his friends.
“Thanks for coming tonight, I’m really glad we met,” He said, and his shyer tone caught you off guard, but made you smile nonetheless.
“Thank you for inviting me,” You countered, “It was really sweet of you to introduce me to all your friends.” Luke waved it off like it was nothing, which you were sure to him it was.
“Can I see you again soon?” He asked, suddenly looking remarkably like a little puppy.
“I’m only a door away,” You grinned, “You can see me whenever you like. Hey, congrats again on the album. I’d say it’s pretty good.” When you pressed a kiss to his cheek and bade him goodnight, Luke couldn’t have resisted his cheesy grin if he’d tried.
“I love being a rockstar,” He said when he returned to his friends.
“Shut up, man,” Replied Alex, “You’re too whipped to claim any rockstar benefits on this one.”
Thank you, Jerry~ Part 5
Luke Patterson x Alive!Reader Series
Tumblr media
Summary: After getting an afternoon free from the band, Luke decides to see his parents, only to find out something he wasn’t expecting.
A/N: Alright, I’m tired of editing this part and changing how this was going to go, so I’m gonna bite the bullet and post it. Enjoy. Hopefully it won’t have too many more parts to it, so it won’t take me forever, but please, for the love of my sanity, don’t just demand part 6 now. Tell me what you like. Please?
Part 5: Is this an interrogation?
---
Luke was most assuredly not fine.
At first, the rest of his bandmates wanted to ignore him being late to rehearsal, or how he always seems to have somewhere to be that isn’t with the rest of them, or how something has made him bury his nose and scribble in his song book more often than his friends have ever seen, alive or dead. Between Julie, Reggie, and Alex, none of them could figure out what was wrong with their friend.
“Do you think he got himself roped into something like the club again?” Julie asks as the three of them await Luke’s return and sit around the couch in the studio, Alex’s drumming on the coffee table in front of him kept the room from being silent in between the ideas being thrown around.
“He wouldn’t do that.” Reggie tells her and she nods, knowing how absurd the idea was in the first place. “Do you think he’s in another band?”
“He wouldn’t do that.” Alex says and Reggie lets out a deep breath of relief. Getting nowhere with figuring out what was up with his best friend, Alex lets his mind wander. Not so surprisingly, his mind wanders to Willie and he smiles unconsciously for a moment before a thought strikes him and his drumsticks slowly come to a stop. “Do you think he met someone?”
For the first time all afternoon, no one denies that idea could happen.
“What are you all sitting around for?” The three of them scramble off the couch at the sudden voice in the studio and relief floods through them all when they realize it was only Flynn and not Luke.
“We think Luke met someone.” Reggie tells her as Flynn plops next to her best friend on the couch, her mouth immediately falling open in shock.
“Like another ghost?”
Julie, Reggie, and Alex all look between each other and shrug. “We don’t know.” Alex tells her.
“Wow.” Flynn lets out a long breath. “Well, good for him.”
“Yeah.” Julie agrees, throwing her arm around her best friend. “Good for him.” Alex and Reggie nod and yet something deep in Julie’s gut tells her there might be something more to the situation. Something she can’t see just yet, or can’t make sense of, but something was going on more than Luke just causally meeting someone.
And Julie was determined to figure out exactly what was going on with Luke.
---
“Um, 536?” You tap your pen against your lip before sighing and falling back on your bed.
Wrong. You can almost imagine Jerry saying as the index card having been floating in the air in front of you slowly drops to the bed and out of the corner of your eyes, you can barely read the number 579 scribbled down in just barely legible chicken scratch.
“It’s your fault.” You grumble, shoving a pillow in your face until you hear the sound of a whiteboard pen squeaking against a little whiteboard, your newest gift to Jerry. You smile to yourself before taking a glance, only to see the word ‘how’ scribbled on it. “Well, I could barely read it!” You defend yourself but you know the excuse was weak, you were just priding Jerry this morning on how better his writing has been since the two of you had been talking. The whiteboard slaps against your arm gently as you let out a small laugh, rubbing the spot before continuing to lay down. “Let’s take a break for a bit.” You tell Jerry and immediately see the cards you’ve been using to study for the last hour tossed onto your desk and your pillows next to you shift a bit, letting you know Jerry was laying down next to you.
Luke didn’t think hard about offering to help you when he popped into your room earlier and saw you studying for your math test the next day. Your brows were scrunched and your pen had bite marks from how hard you were chewing in concentration. It was one of those moments where Luke wished he had a phone to take a picture. It was also followed by a quick smile when he flicked your lamp on a few times to get your attention. That’s what led him here, laying on his side on your bed and staring at the side of your face as he hugs your pillow tightly. You were looking up at the ceiling instead of him, but in your defense, last time you both laid on your bed like this, you tried looking at him and both of you found it too weird. You would focus on something behind him and Luke would have to scooch down in his position just so his eyes would meet yours. This, staring at the ceiling, was more preferable.
“So, how was your day?” You ask Jerry, knowing you were just with him this morning.
Luke chuckles to himself before grabbing the whiteboard and scribbling down a quick ‘good :) how was yours?’.
You sigh and shrug. “It was fine.” You say but Luke knows you well enough to know there was more to the story.
‘Still not a lot from Kendall?’ He scribbles, having to write your old friend’s name more than once as he sees you struggle to understand what he wrote. When you do understand you let out a dry chuckle before shaking your head. Luke feels awful for you, he’s seen you try and text her over the last few weeks, but you never said anything about her responding more than a text or two every once in a while. Mentally slapping himself, he wants to cheer up a little. ‘How about your new friends?’
Reading Jerry’s new question, you don’t hold back the smile on your face, something Luke loves to see. “They are amazing.” You tell him, hugging a pillow close to your chest. “I loved my old friends, but Flynn, Julie, and her band just make me feel-” you cut yourself off, unsure what you’re going to say but knowing nothing you could say could make Jerry fully understand how much you love them.
Luke can’t help himself as he scribbles a quick, “And your crush?” He knows he shouldn’t ask, especially since he is more than certain you were talking about him, despite you never actually saying his name during the talks.
Your eyes tight and look away for a moment, not wanting Jerry to see the no doubt embarrassed look on your face thinking about Luke. “Yeah, he’s pretty good too.” You finally say before looking back up at the ceiling, unaware of the beaming smile and small blush creeping up Luke’s cheeks. You’re quiet for a moment before laughing to yourself. “And there’s you.” You roll your eyes at yourself and Luke finds himself completely red in just a few moments at the prospect of what you are going to say. “You know you’re my best friend, right?” You’ve said it to Julie and Flynn on your first girls’ day a few weeks ago, but you weren’t sure if you ever told Jerry.
Not seeing Jerry pick up the whiteboard, your heart quickens. “Obviously, you don’t have to say that back, especially since I know you have other best friends, like the ones you died with- I just wanted to say that, you know, b-because you’re like my best fri- best ghost friend-”
You were rambling and Luke wasn’t a genius but he didn’t need to be one to know that you would probably keep going unless he stopped you. You keep talking as he quickly scribbles on the whiteboard, holding it in front of your face in order for you to see it.
“You’re one of my bestest friends.”
Your whole body relaxes into the bed as you read his words and you can’t help yourself as you whisper, “That’s not a really word, but I’ll take it.”
Luke rolls his eyes and uses the pillow he’s leaning on to gently hit your face. He rolls off the bed to the sound of your loud laughs, accidently hitting the desk chair next to him.
“Grab the cards while you’re up.” You point to the pile and groan as you sit up ready to start another round of studying with Jerry.
---
Luke arrives back in the studio later that night. His goofy smile at spending the afternoon with you was barely hidden before he hears his name called, his friends all gathered around the piano without him. He doesn’t think anything about it at first as he jumps on over, tossing his arms around Alex and Reggie once he’s there. “What’s going on?” He asks, unable to stop his smile from making another appearance.
The rest of the band stays quiet, looking about each other before Alex clears his throat. “Why don’t you tell us?”
Luke’s smile slowly leaves as he furrows his brows. “Is something… wrong?” He looks to Reggie but the boy can’t make eye contact, then he looks to Julie, who’s eyes are wide and also locked onto the piano in front of her. “Julie?”
She finally looks up at him and takes a shaky breath. “We just want to make sure you’re okay.”
“Okay?” Luke’s arms fall from his best friends as he takes a step back. “Is this an interrogation or something?” He jokes, hoping his friends will stop acting weird.
“What is going on with you?” Reggie speaks, keeping his head low and playing with his fingers. “These last few months, I mean, it’s like you’re not even here, and when you are, it’s like you’re not even yourself.” He finally meets Luke’s eyes. “You’ve missed rehearsals, dude. Rehearsals. You didn’t even miss those when we were still kicking!”
As his stomach twists with worry, he shrugs. “So?”
It was Alex’s turn. “You’ve been keeping secrets from us, bailing when we have plans, a-and writing love songs?” He pulls out Luke’s song book that Luke didn’t even know he left laying about.
“You went through my songbook?”
Alex shakes his head, hoping his best friend would know he’d violate that rule. “I didn’t! You just- you left it open on the table the other day and this song was on top of the pile and it’s a love song.” Alex hands the book back to Luke who takes it quickly, tucking the page back into the book. Alex rocks on his heels, unsure what the three of them should say next to Luke, possibly an apology, but Alex can’t help himself but ask, “Sunflowers?”
Luke closes his eyes tight, wishing he hadn’t left his book on the table so carelessly when he went to visit you the other night before you went to sleep. He was about to defend himself before he sees Julie’s head snap to Alex’s.
“Wait, what did you say?” She asks and for a moment, Luke gets worried. She wouldn’t make the connection between sunflowers and you… would she?
Alex furrows his brows. “Sunflowers? It’s the name of his song.” He looks from the girl to Luke before taking a step forward. “Which by the way rocks, and if it wasn’t totally a secret love song, I’d totally suggest we preform it.”
Luke only nods his head gently at Alex’s words as he focuses on Julie, whose eyes were darting back and forth in front of her before finally settling on Luke.
“Is this about Y/N?”
“What?!” Alex and Reggie gasp at the same time, their jaws practically hitting the floor at the question.
Julie doesn’t acknowledge their shock as she puts together the pieces of Luke’s mystery. “This all started when she moved here, when she moved into your house!” She was starting to get excited, her voice rising as she claps her hands together. “When she moved into your house, with a ghost in it!” At that last realization, her stomach falls and she meets Luke’s eyes, brown, depressed, and boring into her own. “Oh, Luke,” her voice was soft now, “please tell me you didn’t.”
Luke remains silent.
“You’re Jerry?” Luke doesn’t know what else to say as he grips his book tight, seeing the page titled ‘Sunflowers’ sticking out, a small flower scribbled on the top, crumpled corner.
He can barely nod before his friends watch him disappear.
---
The next day after your math test leads to you skipping the rest of the day, opting for a walk along the beach instead. One thing about moving to LA is definitely the ocean air to cheer you up. You’ve been wandering for almost a half an hour, wiping under your eyes and trying your best not to sniffle.
You considered heading back to your house and enjoying the time without your dad home or even heading back to school for the final classes, but before you could make your decision, you see Luke, sitting on the edge of the boardwalk and kicking his legs out in the air with a frown on his face.
Seeing him here made you feel a little better, even if it was just for a moment. Hyping up your courage, you make your way over to him and take a seat next to him. “Hey, you.”
Luke looks up instinctively when he hears someone talk but he almost goes straight back to his previous position before he sees you staring directly at him as you sit down. He didn’t even realize he was visible at the moment; he was too far focused on his thoughts. “Hey,” he says finally, scooching over so you had more room next to him. The two of you are quiet for a moment before Luke turns and looks at you, his already sad expression becomes worse. “Are you crying?”
You let out a huff, forcing a smile to your face and quickly wipe your cheeks. “No, I was just uh,” You don’t know how you were going to finish the sentence as you meet Luke’s eyes. “It’s stupid.” You tell him but he offers you his ear to listen. “I just failed my math test.” You shrug, watching your feet as you kick out in front of you.
Luke feels awful. He knew last night how worried you were about this exam and a large part of him regrets distracting you as much as he had, especially when he convinced you to take music break and sing to all your favorite songs, which accidentally lasted an hour long since you wanted to play some songs and bands that Luke knew as well.
“Sorry that happened.” He says and you can’t help but smile at him, feeling a little better.
“It’s okay.” You whisper. “There’s always another test.” You lean back on your hands and look at Luke, watching his smile grow a little when he meets your gaze. “What about you? You alright? Kinda look like you’ve been crying too.”
Luke has to laugh at that. He hasn’t been crying, or at least that’s what he has told himself, but since he left Julie’s place and all of his friends last night, he’s been bouncing between places to be alone, wondering what on earth he was going to do about this whole situation. “I’m okay.” He lies and your eyes narrow, knowing he’s not saying the truth.
“You know, I’m really good at keeping secrets.” Luke’s shoulders relax as he leans back on his hands too. One corner of his lips quirks up when his shoulder brushes with yours.
No matter how many times Luke and you have talked since that first night you stayed at Julie’s, there was always a moment, that first moment after talking to you so long as Jerry where he touches you and it feels like he has come alive again. Where he’s just him, and you’re just you, and he can touch you, he can feel you, and he loves it. You and him, it’s just feels natural, no matter who he is in your life.
Luke sighs, pleading with himself to look away from you, but he couldn’t do it. “What would you do if you found out someone was lying to you?”
His question causes you to inhale sharply. Your next laugh comes out short. “Um, I guess it depends on who it is, you know?” You weren’t really sure what Luke was asking.
“What if it was your best friend?” Luke plays with fingers, unsure himself where he was going with his questions.
You’re quiet a bit too long for his liking, but in truth, you’ve been worried about the prospect of Jerry lying to you for far too long. You’d like to think at this point you knew Jerry, but of course, since you’re unable to actually see him or talk to him, you’ve never truly known if it was the truth. Before you could answer, Luke shakes his head. “Sorry,” he begins, “You don’t have to answer that. “
Luke wasn’t sure if he wanted the truth or not. He knows what he’s doing as Jerry and yet, stopping those visits with you was so far from what he wanted to do, he just wasn’t sure if he could tell you… everything.
“Happy talk?” You ask Luke and he is quick to nod and the two of you shift in your seats to look at each other, glad to move on from the sad talks. “So, tell me about Sweden.”
Suddenly this happy talk wasn’t as easy as Luke thought it would be. “Sweden? You, uh, you don’t really wanna know about Sweden, right?”
“Come on!” You nudge his leg with yours, keeping your leg pressed against his when you were done. “I wanna know about where you’re from.”
Luke takes a deep breath and tries to figure out how to get out of this situation. “Well, I didn’t live there long.” He lies and immediately his stomach starts to turn. “It’s um, it’s very big.”
You wait for him to say more but he just nods his head and you raise your brows. “It’s big?” Luke nods. “Okay, um, is that all?”
Luke was beginning to think that he should’ve learned more about Sweden when Julie told everyone they were from Sweden, especially since you were bound to have asked him about it at some point, he knew you well enough that he should’ve assumed that. Instead, he could only sit there and say, “yep.”
Luke was being weird, he’s been like this before when you’ve mentioned Sweden, so figuring he’s just homesick or something, you drop the question. “Dogs or cats?”
Luke’s brow arch and he stares at you through his lashes, as if your simple question was a trick and he was supposed to figure the right answer. “What?”
You smirk, leaning forward and inadvertently getting closer to him. “Dogs or cats, it’s an easy question.
Luke leans forward as well, his eyes narrowing and he’s quiet for a moment before quickly saying, “Dogs.”
“Really?” you ask him, a little surprised by his response. Luke chuckles softly at your expression.
“Yes, really, why? What’s yours?”
“Both.”
“Both?”
“Yup.”
“I didn’t know we could say both! I thought that was against the rules.”
You click your tongue. “I make the rules, so I say both.”
“Fine, I say both too.”
“Fine with me.” It was clear, after a single conversation were neither felt upset or like you were lying, that your spirits had lifted. Just like the first night you had met Luke, the conversation only flowed from there. You talked about anything and everything you could think of. Luke had to admit that he heard quite a few of the stories for the second time since some were stories you told Jerry, but he didn’t care. He’d listen to the stories a thousand times if it meant he could see you smile and laugh your way through them.
As the sky started to darken, the two of you realized just how long you’ve been captivated by the other. Luke was certain his friends were going to be looking for him eventually as it’s been almost a whole day since he left the studio.
“I should probably get home.” You told him, rubbing your arms as the ocean causes the air to prickle your skin. Luke nods and stands up, stretching his limbs out and reaching down to offer you a hand getting up. You happily take it, slipping your hand into Luke’s and neither of you let go when you were on your feet.
Perfectly timed with your stretching, your phone goes off and you look to see your dad’s contact on the screen along with an angry text about why you skipped school today. “Oooh, someone’s in trouble.” Luke teases you as he bumps his shoulder against yours. You chuckle at his actions before reading.
“He wants me to clean out the attic as punishment.” You sigh, shoving your phone back into your pocket.
Luke’s face scrunches. “The attic? Who does he think you are, Cinderella?”
You laugh again and shrug. “When we were moving, I didn’t feel like going through all of the boxes, so I may have shoved quite a bit of boxes up there so my dad didn’t see them. Unfortunately, that lasted about a week, but I don’t know why he’s making me clean it now, he must need something in there.”
Luke nods, looking down at your entwined hands before smiling softly. “Walk you home?” He offers. The smile on your face was all Luke needed to know you’d say yes.
Your house was barely a half an hour walk from the beach and to be honest, you’ve barely remembered the walk, only keeping Luke’s hand in yours and talking the whole time. You didn’t realize you were in front of your house until Luke stops walking, squeezing your hand tight.
“Good luck with the attic.” He tells you and you roll your eyes. “I’d offer to help but-”
“But you know I wouldn’t let you?” Luke nods at your comment before you both laugh, accidentally coming close together. Your chest was almost pressing against his as your gazes meet one another and you stay in your close bubble for just a moment longer before you clear your throat and take a step back, slowly dropping Luke’s hand at the same time. “Goodnight.” You whisper to him and Luke can’t say anything or do anything except nod. His cheeks were no doubt pink and he hoped the sky was dark enough so you wouldn’t see it. You smile at him, coursing a smile of his own to appear because how could he not smile at you. It was you.
He watches you disappear through your front door before he jumps and spins with excitement. God, it really was one thing to be able to talk to you instead of just writing things down, but when you touched him, it was like electricity. It felt like the stamps from the Hollywood Ghost Club except there was no pain. There was happiness, and warmth, and what Luke was beginning to believe can only be described as love.
---
The attic wasn’t as clean as you had remembered it being. A few of the boxes you had shoved up there had toppled over, sending a few things flying out of the boxes themselves and a layer of dust covered almost the entire room. You sent your dad a text, asking if he needed something up here or if he wants you to pull all the boxes out. Turns out you were right and he just wanted a pair of shoes you threw up here. Luckily for you, you knew exactly where they were and within 10 minutes, you were ready to get out of this dusty place. You were just about to leave before a box topples over from you shifting them around to get through. You sigh heavily, thinking about just leaving until next time someone comes up here, but you knew it would be yourself and you couldn’t do that to yourself.
So, you trudged your way back to the box, finding it easily and shoving the belongings back inside. It only took you a minute to realize none of the things in the box were yours or your dads.
They must be the old owners, you think to yourself. You knew there was probably a box or two that was forgotten was the old owners moved out, but you hadn’t seen them before when you were putting boxes up here, but you weren’t really paying attention. You thought against snooping, letting the older couple have their privacy and see if there was a way you could contact them and send them their boxes, but you couldn’t help yourself. Especially not after you see a pamphlet for an old band laying out on the ground.
The band name sounded familiar but you couldn’t remember listening to anything from a ‘Sunset Curve’. Judging by the band name and song names and the date listing the ablum in the mid-90s, it didn’t seem like the sort band a pair of grown adults would listen to. They must have had a kid or someone who was interested in this sort of music.
You almost tossed it aside. You almost shoved it back into the box without another thought to it and kept the box up here in the attic and never thought about it again. That was, until you remembered something a certain someone said to you the night you first met.
My friends and I, we had a band called Sunset Curve.
It must have been a coincidence that Luke’s band before Julie was named Sunset Curve. Maybe they just copied it right from this band, it’s been done before. But something was telling you that wasn’t the case.
You’ve never pulled out your phone faster, thumbs hitting every wrong spot on the screen until you finally pull up the internet and manage to type ‘Sunset Curve’. There were surprisingly quite a few websites that popped up and you click on the first one.
Sunset Curve: A Hollywood Tragedy
You don’t read the article yet. How could you when the picture of Luke, Alex, and Reggie along with a fourth boy were staring you in the face? You tell yourself again that it’s a coincidence, that this is taking about another Sunset Curve, that they used the wrong picture or something, that this band wasn’t a Hollywood tragedy in the 90s because your friends were barely older than 18, that this is all one big misunderstanding.
And then you read the article.
They died 26 years ago. They died 26 years ago when they were 17 years old. They died 26 years ago, when they were 17 years old, after eating hotdogs and getting food poisoning. They died 26 years ago, when they were 17 years old, after eating hotdogs and getting food poisoning together as friends.
You’ve heard this story before. You’ve cried over this story before. At first, all you thought you had to deal with was Luke, Reggie, and Alex being dead, being ghosts.
Julie and the Phantoms. That’s starting to make sense to you right about now.
Then the other pieces start to slowly slip together. Each passing second only leads you to one almost undeniable fact.
Either Luke, Reggie, or Alex is Jerry.
And you had a pretty good guess which one it was.
I don't think pancakes are gonna fix this. I need ice cream too, for the band/whoever you want!
okay full disclosure, i'm a little bit terrified to post this. I've never done this ship before 🙈 or this trope/plot device... but. due to the typical people at fault for the fics that enter my brain... (*ahem* @narcissusbrokenmirror and unnamed party who DOESN'T DO TUMBLR) it exists. and meant I finally had something to write that fit this prompt! (and there's a little treat in here for you) I hope someone likes it 😅 a part II is also planned. just... later.
“Heeeeeey Lukey, you’re up early,” Reggie exclaims from in front of his electric griddle. He’s been busy making pancakes for their weekly band brunch. “Where’ve you been?”
Luke stares, unseeing, as he moves through the motions of removing his shoes by the door. He’d just gotten back home after running out unexpectedly a few hours earlier. Only Willie had been awake early enough to see him off.
“Luke?” Reggie calls back out from the kitchen.
Luke doesn’t answer. He just rounds the doorway into Reggie’s sightline.
Reggie looks up from pouring the next batch of pancakes, almost dropping the bowl when he catches sight of Luke’s face. It’s very nearly expressionless and entirely unlike Luke.
He recovers quickly and sets the bowl  gently on the counter before bounding over to Luke.
“Luke? Buddy?” Reggie asks, trying to catch Luke’s gaze. “What happened?”
Luke opens and closes his mouth, trying to speak but can’t manage to make sound.
“Alex! Willie?” Reggie calls desperately, raising his voice loudly enough to ensure they hear him.
They both appear almost instantly.
“What’s-” Alex starts to ask before catching sight of Luke and cutting himself off.
“Something’s wrong,” Reggie cries, panic edging into his voice.
Alex runs a hand through his hair as he gulps in a deep breath. “Okay. Okay. Let’s…” he looks around the kitchen and then back out to the living room. “Let’s get him sitting down somewhere.”
Alex and Reggie each grab one of Luke’s arms and try to steer him toward the couch.
Reggie suddenly drops the arm he’d been holding and turns back toward the kitchen. “Shit! The-”
“It’s okay, I’ve got it,” Willie assures him, picking up the flipper. They gesture back toward Luke. “You take care of Luke, I’ll finish these.”
Reggie sends them a small grateful smile and grabs back hold of Luke. He helps Alex guide Luke to the couch where they gently set him down.
Reggie kneels in front of Luke, trying again to catch his gaze. When he fails, he sets a hand on each of Luke’s knees. The contact seems to jolt Luke back to reality, at least slightly.
Alex sits next to him on the sofa. Luke leans into his side and Alex wraps an arm around Luke’s shoulders.
“I got you. We’ve got you. You’re okay,” Alex murmurs softly.
Luke’s eyes go glassy as he settles back into the present, soaking in the comforting presence of his best friends.
Reggie decides to try again. “What’s going on?”
Luke raises his eyes to meet Reggie’s. “Carrie’s pregnant.”
Reggie jumps back in surprise while Alex’s brow furrows.
“Carrie… Like Carrie Wilson,” Alex confirms.
Luke nods.
“Why…? Luke…” Alex pulls back slightly and turns so he can face Luke. “Luke, why would that affect you?”
Luke looks up at Alex with sad eyes.
Reggie’s eyes widen in understanding. “Luke! When? Carrie?! How?” he stammers through his shock.
Luke takes a deep breath and pulls himself fully away from Alex. He clasps his hands together and stares at them to  avoid looking at Alex or Reggie. “The night of  the Billboards,” he explains.
“You and Carrie?” Reggie asks again, disbelief still present in his voice.
Luke nods.
“How? I mean. It’s Carrie. And you. I just…”
“I know. It just… happened.”
“And you never told us?” Alex chimes in, betrayed.
Luke shakes his head.
“Okay. Don’t think we won’t be revisiting that later. But. Is she okay? Does she know what she wants to do? Do you know what you want her to do?”
Another shake of Luke’s head. He collapses back into Alex.
Reggie climbs up to wrap his arms around both of them. “You know we’ve got you, right? No matter what,” he murmurs.
Luke nods into Alex’s chest.
Reggie’s thighs start burning from how he’s perched for their little huddle. He’s just about to pull away when they hear the apartment door open and close.
“Julie,” Reggie whispers. As always, she’s perfectly on time for brunch.
The three of them pull apart. “Do you want her to know?” Alex asks sincerely.
Luke’s mouth opens in an attempt to answer but his efforts are stalled as they hear Willie call out from the kitchen, very obviously warning them of Julie’s arrival. “They’re in the living room.”
The guys don’t speak as they watch the doorway for Julie.
Julie enters the room and immediately stops. She takes in their state and her face scrunches up in concern.
“What’s wrong?” she asks, slow and wary.
Alex and Reggie both turn to Luke, waiting to follow his lead. He looks up at Reggie with wide, pleading eyes.
Reggie furrows his brow in silent question. At Luke’s slight nod, he turns back to Julie. “Carrie’s pregnant,” he tells her, rushing through the pair of words as if it’ll make it easier to say. And hear.
“Okaaaaay,” she counters slowly.
“It’s Luke’s,” he adds just as quickly.
Julie turns wide, disbelieving eyes on Luke. “Really?”
He nods.
“Shit.”
They stare at each other in silence for a moment before she breaks it. “Are you okay?”
Luke’s eyes fill with tears and he shakes his head.
Julie walks over to the couch and shoves Luke and Alex over to make room. She wedges herself between Luke and the arm of the sofa.  Julie takes Luke’s hand and gently strokes the back of it with her thumb. “Tell me about it?” she offers.
“There’s nothing to tell, really. We were both pissed at how the Billboards went, hooked up, never spoke about it again. Until…”
“Yeah,” Julie softly responds, saving him from having to finish the sentence.
“There’s a uh… lot of details missing there, Luke,” Reggie chimes in.
Alex swats Reggie’s shoulder with the back of his hand.
Reggie rubs his shoulder and glares at Alex. “That are totally none of our business,” he adds hastily.
“It was so… stupid!” Luke exclaims. He pulls his hand back from Julie. He scrubs at his face before running his hands up into his hair. He leans over to rest his elbows on his knees, supporting his face in his hands.
“Hey,” Julie counters gently, pulling his hands away from his head. “Hey, I think we all did some pretty stupid shit that night.”
“We did?!” Reggie squeaks.
“We did,” Julie confirms. She averts her gaze but the blush rising up her face is unmistakable.
Reggie narrows his eyes at her. “What stupid shit did Julie do?”
“We’re not talking about me right now.”
“Hm. Well, maybe knowing Julie’s stupid shit will make Luke feel better,” Reggie counters, looking pointedly at Luke.
“Yeah, I don’t think so,” Julie says, drawing out the ‘yeah’ to make her doubt clear.
Luke lifts his gaze up, trying to catch hers. He narrows his eyes. “What did you do, Julie?”
“I… really don’t think you want to know. Forget I said anything.”
Luke cocks his head and looks at her sideways. “You know that’s not gonna happen.”
Julie stands. She turns toward them and then back away, uncertainty lacing every movement.
“Julie?” Alex tries. “Jules, it can’t be that bad.”
“It’s not that bad if I keep it to myself,” she murmurs.
Luke lets out a good-humoured scoff, “It’s not like you hooked up with Bobby or something.”
Julie stops in her tracks. Her eyes widen and she gapes at them.
Luke’s expression shifts to mimic hers. “You hooked up with Bobby?!” He exclaims, disbelieving and angry.
Alex sets a calming hand on Luke’s knee. Luke brushes it off.
Alex quickly glares at Luke before redirecting his attention to Julie, “Okay well, you’re not pregnant too, right?”
“No!” Julie assures them. “I mean, probably. I don’t think so… No. No, I can’t be. I’m not.”
“Are you and Bobby like… together?” Luke asks slowly.
Julie shakes her head. “No. No, it was just… We got lost in the chaos of everything that night. I swear. It only happened the once,” she pauses to consider before continuing, “Well, the one night.”
Luke’s face twists up in disgust, “Ew. Gross. I do not want to know. You’re right. I don’t feel better.” He groans. “But at least I didn’t hook up with… him.” Luke’s expression contorts into a final  grimace.
Alex sighs, “Okay, can we get back to the issue at hand?”
“Pancakes?” Reggie exclaims hopefully.
“No, Reggie. Not pancakes.”
“Pancakes fix everything,” Reggie mumbles. “Sue me for trying to help. Though… they’re probably cold by now…”
“I don't think pancakes are gonna fix this… We need ice cream too,” Luke murmurs.
Reggie jumps up and bounds toward the kitchen. “Willie! Willie, we need to dig out the ice cream to have with our pancakes! It’s an emergency. What kinds do we have?” He trips over his feet in his enthusiasm, just barely managing to recover before face planting on the floor.
Alex, Luke, and Julie shake their heads fondly as they watch him leave.
Julie turns back around to Luke. She crouches in front of him and takes his hands. “We good?”
“Yeah, we’re good. Let’s just… never talk about it again please?”
Julie nods her agreement. “You bet. Are you going to be okay?”
“No, but we’ll figure it out. We always do, right?”
Julie smiles up at him. “Right.”
“And we’re all here with and for you,” Alex confirms. He puts his hand on Luke’s back. “All of it. No matter what.”
Luke directs a sad smile at Alex. “Thanks, man.”
Alex nods once in acknowledgement. “Should we go see what kind of mess those two have managed to create in the last three minutes?”
Luke and Julie cough out matching laughs. Julie stands, pulling Luke up with her. She squeezes his hands twice before letting one go and pulling him toward the kitchen.
PSA: I am still learning Guitar so I’ll write it as best as I can for you guys. I just looked up the chords and wrote those, but I am unaware if they are the official chords so bare with me here. If you guys know that any of them are wrong please please please consider letting me know and I will fix it as soon as I can.
Y/n’s Pov:
“Knock knock. Is y/n in there?” Siana asks as she taps on my forehead, effectively snapping me out of my mind.
“Yeah. Sorry. I just have a lot on my mind,” I answer as I shake my head and yawn, then start to pour myself some juice.
“I’m sure you do. It’s been about a month you’ve been seeing this Charlie now,” she taunts as she smirks, wiggling her eyebrows at me.
“That’s not what it was at all,” I verbalize as I feel my cheeks heat up.
“Oh, you're so blushing right now! So that’s a total yes! You were thinking of him!” she shouts as she pokes my cheek with her pointer finger.
“No, I wasn’t-” I start to reply, but my phone stops me mid conversation as my text tone goes off.
“Is that Charles as your text tone…” she continues to tease and I roll my eyes.
“Yes… he insisted on it so I’d know it was him…” I explain as I lift it and it lights up.
“That’s actually so, so cute,” she coos and I roll my eyes.
“We’re just friends…” I reply as I smile while replying to his text and she shrugs.
“Don’t listen to me… but honey, he most definitely likes you… I bet today is the day he makes a move. Hell, he’ll probably do that whole arm around you to show you the chords thing…” she remarks as she does some weird hand gesture, making me quirk an eyebrow at her.
“Ok… what the hell was that hand motion?” I ask her with a giggle.
“What! Isn’t that how you play a guitar!” she shouts and I giggle, shaking my head.
“No. That is definitely not how you do it. Charlie would cringe so hard at whatever you just did,” I explain as I wave at her and she shrugs.
“Well, whatever. I’m not the roommate who’s into that stuff, that’s you,” she waves her hand in dismissal and I laugh, shaking my head.
“Yeah. Yeah. Imma go shower now…” I gesticulate over my shoulder and she rolls her eyes.
“You're showering to go to the beach? Oh! Wait, it's for Charlie isn’t it?!” she questions, but then quickly changes to a declaration and I roll my eyes.
“It’s so for Charlie, isn’t it! So you do like him! I was right!” she says as she happily claps before starting to push me to my room.
“Go! Go shower and pick the cute red bikini. The one that brings out your eyes…” she declares and I guffaw at her.
“I can’t pick that one!” I exclaim and she gives me a look of confusion.
“Why can’t you?” she asks almost like she’s offended.
“That one’s far too sexy for me!” I exclaim and she guffaws at me.
“Honey, sexy is what you want in this situation,” she explains as she goes into my closet before returning with the red number.
“Are you sure? Cause I really like him…” I finally admit as I play with my fingers and she claps.
“Sweetheart, listen to me! I’m the one who gets most of the guys,” she explains pointingly as she sits down next to me.
“I know… it’s just this is the first real guy I’ve been around after my whole swearing them off thing…” I nervously explain and she nods.
“I know. Your last relationship wasn’t the best. But hey! Maybe you waited three years for Charlie. Maybe he’ll be better then stupid Greg,” she remarks before giving me a grossed out look.
“Oh, he’s definitely better than Greg,” I agree and she smiles.
“See! So isn’t it worth it to see where this thing will go?” she asks me and I sigh before nodding in agreement with her.
“Yeah. I guess it is…” I agree with my own smile.
“Well, go get in the shower then!” she declares as she again pushes me towards the bathroom.
“And wear the red piece!” she yells from the hallway and I giggle, shaking my head.
~ Time Skip ~
I pull up at the beach and turn my car off. After taking a moment to look over myself one last time, I start to get out of the car. Once I’m out, I pop my trunk before going around to get the practice sabers out along with my backpack and old guitar.
I close my trunk and look around once before locking my car. I then walk to our spot where we meet up every week. I set my bag down by the wall before looking around for Charlie.
After looking around, I don’t see him so I just sit against the wall and take my phone out. I text with Anna for a bit before a dog comes running up to me and starts to lick my face. I start laughing as I pet Koa and Charlie comes up behind him and pulls him away from me.
“I am so sorry. He must be really excited to see you today,” Charlie explains as Koa runs off to the water.
“It’s ok. Really. I’m glad to see him too,” I reply with a light giggle.
“So, which are we practicing first today?“ Charlie asks as he now sets his stuff down by mine.
“I was thinking we could practice the guitar, then sabers. That way we can go for a swim after getting all sweaty from the sabers,” I explain and he nods before opening up his guitar case.
“Ok. So did you practice the chords that I taught you last week?” he asks as I bite my lip and nod lightly.
“I did practice, but I’m still having a little trouble with them,” I inform him and he nods his understanding.
“Ok, then we’ll start there,” he decides out loud and I nod before pulling my guitar onto my lap.
“Ok. So put your fingers on your chords and I’ll help you fix what’s off,” he explains and I nod before starting to try and place my fingers right.
“You almost have it. Just this finger goes here and this one goes here. It’ll feel a little foreign at first, but I promise the more you practice this song it’ll just start to feel natural,” he explains as he moves my two fingers into place.
“Now try playing the chords,” he orders and I nod before sticking my tongue out and trying to play the chords right.
I play the first two right, but then both me and Charlie cringe as one sounds completely off. I take a break with a huff as Koa runs up to his daddy and licks his hand. Charlie chuckles before petting his baby’s head and after a few minutes, Koa seems satisfied when he runs off again.
“Ok. Play it again, let me hear it and see what’s up,” Charlie tells me as he watches and observes as I place my hands back onto the chords.
Again I play the first two right, but as I play the next one it sounds off again. I giggle when I see Koa cringe.
“I take it even Koa doesn’t like how that chord sounded,” I state and Charlie chuckles before looking over my guitar.
“I think your guitar may be out of tune again. Good time to practice tuning it then,” he notes and I nod as I pull out the little tuner I bought at the beginning of last month.
I put it on the end of my guitar before starting to try and tune it like he taught me to. Once I think I have it, look up at him.
“You think you have it?” he asks and I nod.
“Ok. Let me see,” he comments before I hand him the guitar.
He plays a few chords before fixing one or two of the pegs. Once he’s done, he looks up with a smile as he hands me back my guitar.
“You did good. I just made a few small tweaks,” he explains and I nod with a smile.
“Ok. Let’s try the chords again. You got this,” he tells me with another smile.
“Ok Luke…” I joke with a roll of my eyes and he smiles.
“So you watch Julie and The Phantoms then?” he asks with a grin and I nod.
“Oh, I most definitely did. I also watched Speed Kills and Love You Anyway,” I tell him and he blushes lightly.
“Well, what’d you think?” he asks and I give him a serious look.
“I thought they were bad…” I deadpan as seriously as I can.
“Oh…” he falters and I giggle as I shove his shoulder.
“I’m joking. I loved them. Especially Speed Kills. I got to see teenage Charles. What’s better than teen Charles?” I jokingly ask and he gasps with his eyes widening in surprise.
“That was so mean! Umm, maybe 23 year old Charles!” he exclaims, rolling his eyes as he crosses his arm like a child would and I giggle again.
“Mean is my middle name. Didn’t anyone tell you? And… I guess 23 year old Charles isn’t so bad…” I tease, bouncing my eyebrows at him and he shakes his head.
“What will I do with you, huh?” he asks and I grin before winking at him.
“I don’t know, love me maybe…” I trail off with a giggle and he shrugs.
“What’d you really think of them though?” he asks seriously now and I smile.
“They were great Char, but I definitely like Speed Kills more than Love You Anyways,” I explain and he nods as I smile when I see a light blush come over his face.
“Why’d you like Speed Kills better?”
“Ok. Each has its own qualities, but I like more action. Love You Anyways was a little slower. And don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love romantic movies, but action is just so much more thrilling,” I explain. “Especially when you're single and a hopeless romantic that nobody really has eyes for.”
“Hey. That’s not true… I’m positive there’s some guy out there for you,” Charlie declares and I smile as he blushes lightly.
Why is he blushing?! Omg…!
“Well, thank you. If you're confident about it, guess I can be too,” I agree with a shrug and he grins.
“Also John Travolta is in it, duh. If John Travolta is in it, it’s an amazing movie hands down,” I continue and he chuckles.
“John Travolta is THE sexy Danny Zuko. Who wouldn’t like a movie with the man in it,” I express and he chuckles, shaking his head again.
“Well I won’t say you're wrong. That man is a legend,” he agrees with me and I grin.
“Right?!” I beam as I look over at him and he smiles.
“What was he like to work with?” I ask and Charlie chuckles.
“He was great. He literally took me under his wing while on set,” he tells me and I smile.
“That’s so cool. Danny Zuko showed you the ropes,” I beam with a smile and he chuckles.
“What’s your favorite of my works then?” he asks and I smile.
“Actually, it’s Julie and The Phantoms. A good second is Runt, even if you're only in it for like, point fifteen seconds,” I joke and he chuckles with a smile.
“Yeah, I had fun on both. In Julie and The Phantoms I made so many friends that became like family. I’m sure you’ll get to meet them soon,” he explains and I grin as his passion shines through him.
“On Runt, we all just acted crazy when the tougher scenes were done. Cam was always the head of the crazy-ness, but he was also the calmest on set,” he explains as his face changes to one of pure sadness.
“I’m sorry he passed. I did hear about it. It must have been gut wenching,” I sympathize as I set the guitar to my side before scooting a little closer and laying a hand on his.
“It was. His heart was always so open. I remember being like ‘bro, I watched this kid on TV…’ He was so nice to everyone he was around. It was crazy… I really wish you could meet him. He’d like you,” he tells me while getting choked up and I smile as I rub his back now.
“I’m sure I would have loved to meet him,” I quietly agree with him and he smiles a watery smile.
It’s quiet for a while as we both just watch Koa play in the water. He sniffles for a few minutes and I lay my head on his shoulder as I continue to rub his back. Koa comes running back over to us and he plops down in front of Charlie.
I let out a light giggle when Koa’s head tilts to the side as he looks over his dad. He walks over and nudges Charlie’s hand. Charlie lets out a light chortle before petting his dog on the head.
Koa nuzzles his head into it with a little face of contentment. Koa then rolls over and closes his eyes as Charlie pets his stomach now. I find myself suddenly perking up, pushing my head off his shoulder as I think of a way to make him smile.
“I will say the fans of Julie and The Phantoms got a real treat in Episode 2. 4 minutes and 44 seconds in, but who’s counting…” I try to flirt with him, but fail miserably when he turns his head and looks at me.
I still count it as a win though when he slowly grins and I try to push my blush down as I clear my throat. I turn away for a small moment to hide my blush as I pick the guitar back up and lay it across my lap.
It’s like when I actually try while looking at him, I fail it every time… ugggh dumb idiot… at least it made him smile.
Koa lets out a whimper as Charlie stops rubbing his stomach. Unsatisfied with him, Koa lets out a loud huff as he shakes his head. He gets up, making me and Charlie laugh as he runs back over to the water.
“So you have the time I take my shirt off memorized then?” he playfully jokes as he bounces his eyebrows at me and I feel the blush rush quicker up my neck again.
“Correction, Siana does. She has a thing for abs… a thing that’s way over the top if you ask me,” I admit with a shrug of my shoulders, but he just gives me a coy grin.
“So you don’t like my abs?” he coyly asks and I groan, rubbing my face.
“No, you have very nice abs… I’m just saying she’s the one that paused it… I’m going to shut up now…” I try to explain, but my tongue only starts to do what it always does as I spiral and stick my foot in my mouth.
“Well I’m going to take the compliment. Thank you very much,” he jokes with a chuckle and I groan again.
“You enjoy making fun of me, don’t you?” I whine out, only making him chuckle again.
“Sorry sweetheart, but it’s so very fun,” he responds and my stomach flips at the nickname.
“So unfair!!!” I cry out and he laughs like full belly laughs at me.
“Oh, hi baby!” I exclaim, putting the guitar down as Koa comes up to me now and I pick him up.
I cradle him like a small baby and he nuzzles into my stomach as I lightly rub his stomach like his dad did just moments ago. I hear a chuckle, making me look up to see Charlie watching the scene practically with heart eyes.
“What?” I ask him and he scoffs playfully.
“You treat him like a real baby,” he points out and I grin.
“He is a baby!!! A sweetheart of a baby,” I point out right back and he chuckles, shaking his head.
“He loves you more than me at this point and he’s my dog,” he exclaims and I giggle as I continue to rub Koa's belly.
“Daddy’s just jealous, isn’t he?” I ask Koa who now has his tongue stuck out.
Koa lets out a bark and Charlie scoffs, rolling his eyes. I look back up at Charlie as I set Koa down on all fours and he runs off again.
“I am not jealous…” Charlie denies as he crosses his arms and I giggle.
“You so are. Let’s get back to the guitar now? Yeah?” I ask as I once again pick it up and he nods.
“Ok. I’m going to try those chords again,” I tell him as I place my fingers back to where they are supposed to be.
I start to try the chords and again I play the first two right, but the next one comes out sounding off again. I huff again before quickly putting the guitar down to the side. I bring my knees up and wrap my arms around them before leaning my forehead against them.
“This is no use. Maybe we should change the song. I don’t think I’ll be getting it anytime soon…” I muse as I put my chin onto my knee while I watch Koa.
“We don’t have to change the song. You’ll get it. It’s ok to mess up a whole bunch of times,” he explains as he puts his hand on my back and starts to rub it.
“How?! Huh, Char?! We’ve been working on it for a month and I’ve been stuck on this same chord practically the whole time,” I bark out in anger at myself and Charlie just nods.
I look at his face and he seems upset. I sigh as my anger disparates and I slowly start to feel guilty.
“I’m sorry Char. It’s not your fault. I shouldn’t have yelled at you. It’s me who can’t get it,” I quietly mummer and he quickly shakes his head.
“No, no. It's ok. I’m not mad, I promise. It’s not your fault. It’s ok to be a little upset. Learning something new can be hard sometimes,” he is quick to reassure me and it works.
“I don’t know why I can’t get it…” I whisper out as I turn back to watch Koa.
It goes quiet for a moment, but Charlie still rubs my back. Tears come to my eyes, burning them but I refuse to let them fall.
“Here. Let’s try something else,” Charlie cuts into the quiet as he reaches behind me to get the guitar.
“What?” I ask, but he doesn’t reply.
He just pushes lightly on my back and I give him a confused look. He motions for me to move forward away from the wall and I confusedly do. He slowly sits down behind me before pulling me back into his chest and my eyes widen.
He brings his one arm up and over as he pulls the guitar over my head. He rests the guitar in my lap and I relax into him.
“This ok?” he asks me and all I can bring myself to do is nod.
“Ok. Put your hands on the guitar…” he tells me before trailing off.
I do as he tells me and shakily bring my hands up before putting them onto the guitar. He then moves his hands and puts them over mine. He positions both of our hands over the chords before he starts to help me pluck them.
I smile as I finally reach the third chord and pass them each better than I’ve been doing. We continue on like that until we finish the song.
“Oh my gosh. Charlie, I did it!” I beam as I turn back to look at him and he grins.
“See, you got it. I’ll keep helping you and lessen up a little every time. Don’t worry, you’ll get it. Here, I’ll also name the chords as we go so you’ll remember them for other songs,” he explains and I nod as I turn back around.
He lessens his hold just a bit before we start to play again. He squeezes my finger lightly to signal the first chord to me and I pluck it before letting it ring out light.
“This one is A Dm then you switch to a Bb which is a B flat like I taught you at the beginning of last month,” he explains the first two chords that I have no problem with.
“The next one is an F chord and that one becomes a C chord,” he explains again as I play the chords with a grin.
“Then switch back to your Dm and B flat,” he tells me as he guides me back to the first two chords.
“Then back to F and C,” he states as he still guides my hands.
It’s only then that I recognize the song that he’s teaching me. I stop him from playing and he stops before I’m pushing his arms up. I crawl out from underneath his arms and sit up onto my knees as I excitedly grin at him.
“I know the song now!” I exclaim and he smiles.
“Ok. What is it?” he asks me and I jump excitedly.
“It’s Perfect Harmony, the song Luke will never know about…” I start off happily before my face falls.
“Poor Luke will never know, Char,” I burst out as tears come to my eyes and he chuckles.
“You really ship Juke that hard?” he asks and I quickly nod.
“Ok… ok. Don’t nod so hard. Your head might fall off,” he jokes and I groan.
“Boys don’t get it…” I huff as I turn back around and plop back on the ground with my arms crossed.
“Oh! Come on, I was joking. Yes it’s sad, Luke will never know about Perfect Harmony,” he agrees with a playful roll of his eyes.
“Really though, that scene had me crying so hard…” I admit and he grins again.
“I’m glad you liked it,” he adds and I smile before scooting back to be right next to him.
“Can you teach me that dance too?” I ask and he chuckles.
“I mean, I guess. I don’t know if I remember all of Julie’s parts though. I know I remember Luke’s after doing it like twenty times with Mads, but I’m not too sure about Julie’s,” he explains as he shrugs.
“Couldn’t you just ask Madison herself?” I ask and he chuckles.
“I guess I could. I didn't even think about that,” he admits and I giggle.
“I’ll talk to her about it later,” he promises before smiling.
“Wanna continue working on the chords now, though?” he asks and I nod eagerly, making him chuckle as I move back over between his legs.
He grabs the guitar again before setting it into my lap. I put my hands on the neck and body first then he puts his back over mine.
“Ok. Do you wanna start off where we left off?” he asks and I nod.
“Ok well, we left off on the third Dm and B flat. This is the one you’ve been having so much trouble with. I think you just get all switched up in your head,” he explains as he moves both his and my fingers back to the chords.
“Then comes the C and F except before it was C, F so they just switch places,” he continues to explain as his hands still lightly guide mine.
“Now from there you just do that all a second time,” he tells me before just plucking the chord in the same order.
“And there you have the first verse,” he informs me as his hands come away from mine for a moment.
“Really, that’s all it is?” I ask and he nods.
“Do you wanna try it on your own now?” he asks with a light grin.
“Yeah. I know you're here if I need you,” I agree and his grin widens.
“Ok. Let’s see it then,” he agrees before pointing at the guitar that’s still in my lap.
I wonder for a moment if I should move or if he will, but when he stays I decide to just stay too. I then position my hands into the first chord before plucking the chords by myself this time.
Same as the last two times, I get the first Dm and B flat and the F and C out perfectly, but when it comes up to the third Dm and B flat, I have to concentrate a little harder. I finally get it and I smile as I stop and excitedly look at Charlie.
“I got it!” I exclaim as I grin and Charlie nods with a proud smile of his own.
“See, I told you ya would. Now there’s nothing to it, you have the whole first verse down,” he points out with the smile still on his face.
“Ok! Let’s keep going!” I excitedly sit back down and he chuckles.
“Ok. The chords are mostly all the same, just played a little differently, ok?” he asks me and I eagerly nod, making him chuckle again.
“Do you want my hands or just you?” he asks and I smile brightly at him.
“Yours for the first time, please. Then I’ll try it on my own,” I ask and he nods as he brings his back up to be over mine.
“Ok, the first part of the chorus is the F. Then you’ll give a B flat,” he explains as he again shows me the chords and I focus on trying to memorize them, but his chuckle pulls me out of my focused state.
“What?” I ask and I feel him shrug from behind me.
“You're just super cute when you focus,” he admits and for the millionth time today, I feel the heat run up my neck as I blush.
“What’s so cute about me when I’m focused? If anything, I think I look dumb,” I note and he chuckles again.
“Nope, it's definitely cute. You stick your tongue out and kinda space out,” he explains, making me throw my head back against his shoulder and groan.
“How is that cute?!” I proclaim and again he chuckles as he shrugs.
“I don’t know, but it is. And it’s 100% you,” he responds and I lift my head to shake it.
“Sometimes I don’t get you, Charles,” I joke and he just smiles charmingly.
“That’s my charm,” he jokes back and I playfully scoff.
“Charm, my ass,” I mutter and he gasps.
“You don’t think I’m charming?” he asks and I giggle as he playfully pouts.
“Oh, stop the pouting. Your lip will fall off…” I state with a laugh when his mouth falls open.
“Ha! Got you at your own game!” I shout as I poke his thigh.
“That’s not nice,” he grumbles and I giggle.
“Oh calm down, of course you're charming,” I affirm with a fake roll of my eyes as I pretend he’s being dramatic.
“Thank you for admitting the truth,” he playfully jokes and I again roll my eyes.
“Drama queen,” I mutter and he gasps again.
“Take that back,” he shouts as he pinches my side, making me squirm.
“Nope! Not happening,” I joke back and he grins.
“Oh, you wanna play that way, huh?” he asks and my eyes widen.
“Koa! Dogpile!” Charlie shouts as he effortlessly moves so now I’m laying on my stomach with him on top of me.
“Koa. Baby, don’t…” I warn the sweet baby of a dog, but he doesn’t listen to me and hops up onto his dad's back.
“Koa! You betrayed me!!” I shout out with a giggle and Koa just tilts his head to the side.
After a moment of looking at me, Koa jumps off Charlie and comes around to me. He licks at my face and I giggle as Charlie pushes him away after almost ten licks or more.
“Ok. Koa, I know you're sorry,” I coo at the dog as he sits before me.
“I’d pet you, but I’ve got a lump on top of me right now,” I tell the dog and Charlie gasps again.
“You did NOT just call me a lump,” he retorts and I giggle.
“Oh, I 100% did. What ya gonna do about it, huh?” I admit as I finally get myself turned around.
“This…” he remarks and before I know it his lips are on mine.
I let out a small gasp as it was a surprise to be kissed by him. I really wasn’t expecting it, but that being said I wasted no time in returning it. His hands rest on my hips as my own arms wrap themselves around his neck.
My hand treads into the hair at his nape and I massage his neck with my other thumb. He deepens the kiss and it isn't how I expected the kiss to be; no fireworks or sparks or anything that ignited something within me, but there is something else... something indescribable, a sort of happiness that flows through me like a warm buzz. Yes, definitely better than the fireworks.
It lasted for a while, us kissing, wrapped up in our own world before it was rudely interrupted by a bark that made us pull apart from one another. We both laugh as Koa squeezes in between us to lick both of our faces. Koa then runs back over to the water and Charlie smiles lightly as he sits up and pulls me with him.
“So. I was wondering if maybe you’d like to go out with me?” He asks as he pushes some of my hair back and plays with it.
“Depends. Where, you taking me?” I ask jokingly and he grins.
“So that’s a yes?” He asks and I playfully roll my eyes.
“No. I’m just asking where you're taking me for the fun of it. Of course it’s a yes Char,” I joke and he chuckles, shaking his head.
His thumb rubs my cheek as he continues to grin at me. I smile as I lean into his hand as I reach up with mine and grab onto it. I close my eyes for a moment before opening them back up to see him looking at me with a gleam in his eyes.
“Can I kiss you again?” He asks me and I giggle.
“Ever so polite Charlie…” I joke as I look into his eyes.
“You don’t even need to ask bubs. Just kiss me,” I whisper out and he nods.
His other hand comes up to my cheek as his lips land on mine and I smile as he tenderly holds me. Our lips mold together as I hold onto his wrists. All to soon though he slowly pulls back before putting his forehead to mine.
“Wanna skip the lightsaber work today and just go for a swim then maybe cuddle while we watch the sunset?” He asks as I turn and sit back against the wall.
“Sure. We can dedicate next week to sabers. Can we finish the song before swimming though?” I ask and he grins as he puts his arm around my shoulder.
“I’d say that sounds reasonable. As long as I can steal a few of these from you,” he replies before leaving a peck on my lips making me smile and cuddle into his side.
“Works for me. Steal as many as you’d like,” I agree and he smiles as he rubs the top of my shoulder.
We sit cuddled up for a little while longer before finishing off practicing the song. Then we go for a swim and Koa plays around where we are. Once our swim is up we both get out and grab our towels before drying off a bit.
Charlie walks over by our stuff and lays his towel out before turning around to look at me. He motions down to the towel as he gives a light bow making me giggle.
“After you Angel,” he offers and I once again grin.
“Don’t mind if I do,” I remark with a giggle as I walk past him before taking a seat on the towel.
He sits down next to me and again puts his arm around my shoulder. I lay my head on his as he pulls me slightly closer and together we watch the sun go down behind the horizon letting our night end on a very positive note.
