lololol at my job, I get lots of cold calls from salesmen trying to talk to my boss. My boss literally pays me to not have to talk to them, but I get a lot of repeat callers, and have become almost friendly with some of them. Then I thought--"MAKE IT JUKE" and it wouldn't get out of my head so lol here you go. 😊
“Covington Corp, this is Julie!”
“Hey Julie, it’s Luke Patterson, from Star Records. How are you doing?”
Julie felt her annoyance at the phone call fade away at the voice of her favorite cold caller. “Luke, you know I know where you’re from, right? You don’t have to introduce yourself every time.”
Luke laughed on the other end of the phone. “It’s company policy. We always introduce ourselves with the company name. And for us lowly assistants, our boss’s name. But that one’s more flexible.”
“I see. Well how are you doing, Luke? The great city of Chicago treating you well?”
“Yeah, yeah, things are good. I’ve pretty much readjusted to the cold after so long away, which is good, because it’s cold for like seventy-five percent of the year.”
“I guess that’s a good thing, then. Have you guys gotten any snow yet? My Tia posted a picture of a snowman on Instagram last week while she was visiting her stepson David in Boston.”
“Nah, not yet, anyway, but Mom says she thinks it’s coming.” There was a hint of worry in his voice.
“How is your mom? Last time you called, you said she was supposed to be out of the cast on her right leg and getting ready for surgery on her left. Is that still going on?”
"Yeah, she’s out of the cast and doing PT and stuff. And they're talking about scheduling her other surgery. But it's gonna be a few months, so she can really PT well on her right before her left is in a cast." He sighed. "I don't regret coming home to help out for a while, because Mom needs me, ya know? And I love her. But it's hard being away from LA, away from my best friends and the city that I love and worked so hard to make it to and put down roots in."
Julie nodded. "That makes sense." She looped her fingers through the coiled phone cord. "But LA will still be here when you get back, and I know your parents are grateful that you're home to help while things are so tough. Besides," she chuckled, "if you hadn't gotten that temp job, you never would have ended up chatting with a mad woman in LA once a month trying to get my boss to consider some deal."
"That’s true. You make it all worth it, Jules!" He teased, but even though she knew he was kidding, Julie felt a fluttering in her belly that told her how much she wished that was true.
"Well let's change the subject. You heard from your boys lately?"
“Yeah, actually!” Julie loved the way his whole voice brightened at the mention of his friends. She could almost picture the joy on his face, except for the fact that she had no idea what he looked like. Damn his dislike of Instagram. “Reggie and Bobby scored us an invite to this talent manager’s open mic event, and Alex sent a pic from his six-month anniversary date with Willie. I think they’re all doing really good.”
“I’m glad to hear it, Luke!” she answered warmly.
"Now you, please tell me all about the best city in the world. Give me all the news from LA."
Julie grinned. "It’s LA. Traffic's a nightmare and there are celebrities all over the place. Flynn is convinced she saw Olivia Rodrigo at her favorite coffee shop. We went to another open mic at Eats and Beats a couple weeks ago, and there were some really solid acts. There was one band, Triple Deck Lost, that was pretty good. They had a really grungy, punk vibe that reminded me of bands my mom used to listen to."
"No way!!! Alex was at that open mic!! That's what he and Willie did for their anniversary!! Willie loved that band!”
"Oh my gosh! I was in the same room as one of your boys and had no idea! That's wild!"
"Man, I wish you guys had known. You would totally be friends if you ever met. Alex is great!" Luke sounded wistful and even a bit homesick, so Julie tried to cheer him up.
"Well think of it this way, when your mom's all healed up and you move back to LA, we'll all get together and meet for real. And then Alex and I will be friends and it'll be great." Just then, she heard the elevator ding, and she immediately shifted into a more professional tone. “Give me just one minute, Mr. Patterson, and I’ll see if anyone in our marketing department is available to assist you.” She pretended to put the call on hold just as her terrifying boss passed her desk.
“Hold all my calls, Janie. I’m going to lunch.” He glided through the fancy lobby and out onto the sidewalk, and only when the glass doors closed behind him did she let out her breath.
“Was that him? I don’t think I’d ever heard his voice before,” Luke commented. “He sounds mean. Also, how does he not know your name? Haven’t you worked there for like, three years?”
Julie rolled her eyes. “Yeah, but he never bothers learning the names of receptionists. At least he got the right first letter. He called Carrie Misty for a month.”
“Well, while we’re on the subject of Mr. Covington, I wanted to schedule an appointment with him for Lila Harrison.”
Julie sighed. “I know your boss is desperate to make this deal, but you know I can’t put you on his calendar.”
“I suspected as much,” he answered, not sounding even a little put off. “But Lila’s doing her annual visit to Valley Dreams Management next week and told me to see if Covington might be interested in letting her buy him lunch.”
“I can ask when he gets back,” Julie answered doubtfully as she wrote down the information in her message book. “Any particular day?”
“We’ll be there Monday til Thursday evening, and she doesn’t have anything set in her calendar yet, so whenever would be most convenient for him.”
“Okay, I’ll pass the message along…” Julie looked around. The other receptionist was at lunch, and the office manager’s door was closed. She was definitely alone. “But Luke. You’ve been calling this office for months and Caleb is never available to talk to you or to schedule an appointment.”
“Yeah, I know.” Julie could hear the smile in his voice.
“Has it occurred to you that there might be a reason for that?”
“It has. Has it occurred to you that there might be a reason I keep calling anyway?”
“And what might that be, Rockstar?” she asked, feeling foolish for the spark of hope that had suddenly burst to life in her chest.
There was a long pause, and then she heard him clear his throat. "Jules. Lila's bringing me with her on this trip to LA next week. I think she knows how much I miss that city, plus apparently when she's not on maternity leave, Melinda always takes these trips with her. Anyway, I'm finally gonna be back in town, if only for the week, and I thought maybe… I mean, it could be cool if… would you want to get coffee or something with me?"
Julie was speechless. She had been expecting another six months at least before they could meet in person, so she wasn’t prepared for his invitation.
“Uh, Jules, you still there?”
“Oh my gosh, yes, I’m here, sorry. And, yeah, I would love to get coffee with you!”
Luke let out a nervous laugh. “Cool. Can I give you my number and you can text me and we’ll make plans?”
At that exact moment, the front door opened and the COO walked in. “Of course, Mr. Patterson. What is the best number for me to reach you at?” she said in her practiced professional voice.
Luke laughed. “I assume someone else just walked in?”
“Yes, that’s correct.”
“Well, I’ll let you go, but my number is 773-555-4357.”
“The last four were 4357?” she clarified.
“That’s it!”
“Perfect, I will get back to you as soon as I get a chance to look at the calendar. I hope you have a pleasant day!”
“Bye, Jules!”
She hung up the phone just as Mr. Dante stepped into the elevator. She immediately pulled out her phone and sent a text to the number she had scrawled on her wrist.
310-555-4639: Hi Luke, this is Julie Molina!
773-555-4357: doesn’t seem like you had time for more than a quick look at your calendar. sure you’re ready to make plans? 😉
310-555-4639: Lol yep! I’m free every day next week.  Just let me know what works for you!

i know i've written multiple regency / victorian juke au's already, but the fact that I hadn't done a bridgerton au yet is honestly shocking
julie molina, the diamond of the season
luke patterson, a scorned duke and rake, returning to california for unfinished business and consequently meeting julie
fake dating au so he doesn't get swarmed by overbearing mamas to take their daughter's hand, and so she gets to pick the best of the best
(perhaps a Prince Nick??)

ok hear me out: juke hancock au where the only concept i’m taking from hancock is the soulmate fated immortal couples > the longer they stay together the more mortal they get, the more vulnerable they are to getting hurt and dying
so julie and luke spend centuries, millennia, together, but every time they see that the other is getting close to turning mortal they make the difficult decision to part and disappear. and every time it’s someone different
in ancient egypt, it’s luke who decides they need to part when julie catches an illness that doesn’t seem to be waning. it breaks his heart to leave her in that state, but he makes sure to find someone to take her of her as he kisses her forehead goodbye and walks away
in the roman empire, it’s julie who makes the hard decision to leave when luke gets fatally injured in battle and his wound doesn’t look like it’s about to heal anytime soon. she rests her forehead against his as she whispers a prayer for him to make it, brushing her lips against his before squeezing his hand and walking away, leaving him in the physicians’ hands
in the 18th century, it’s luke who walks away, at the peak or the vampire panic. as a mixed race couple, wherever they go, neighbours start spouting nonsense about them being vampires — about how julie seduced luke and now they’re both immortal beings. they get attacked one night, in a dark alley, and julie jumps in front of him before he can react, and gets stabbed. there’s blood everywhere and he doesn’t know what to do. he frantically makes his way over to a trusted friend’s house, leaving her to their care as he bids her another heartbreaking goodbye, another see you later.
in the 90s it’s julie who walks away, on one of luke’s big nights. he eats spoiled hotdogs before his big breakthrough gig even after her warnings, and nearly succumbs to the battery acid mixed in with the ingredients. she calls an ambulance, crying over his too still form, and runs as far away from him as possible the moment the paramedics jump out of the ambulance.
it’s a love that constantly pulls them together, but forces them to part every few centuries.
but even then, it still brings them back together in the end.

Set Fire to the Rain
This is a little piece of something I've been working on. In the jukebox baby universe - this would be in the college years. I totally forgot it was Thursday and I hate letting a Juke Jeudi go by without a nod.
She was about halfway back to the dorms when it started to rain. She only had about thirty seconds to duck under the awning of a Starbucks before the sky opened up and rain started to pour from the sky in buckets.
Julie could barely see ten feet in front of her as she stood out of the downpour. There was an open gap between the awning and the door or she’d have gone inside. She leaned back against the glass and closed her eyes. She really didn’t have time to just stand here. There was always so much to do.
“Come here often?”
Her eyes flew open at that voice and Luke was standing there beside her. He was leaning against the glass, arms crossed and a smirk on his face. He was soaking wet.
“What?” she opened and closed her mouth. “How?”
His smirk turned into a mischievous grin, “Surprise.”
She threw her arms around his neck and kissed him. She didn’t care that he was wet and he was going to get her clothes wet. He was here! He pulled her close and kissed her back just as enthusiastically.
The world disappeared as she lost herself in Luke’s kisses. He was so warm despite being soaking wet she wouldn’t have been surprised if steam was coming off of them as they clutched at each other.
Someone banged on the glass from inside the store and they broke apart to see an angry looking employee waving at them.
Julie bit her lip and turned to Luke trying to suppress a giggle. He was still frowning at the guy in the window so she grabbed his chin and turned his face to hers. The frown morphed into a smile. “Sorry Jules, apparently that dude doesn’t believe in love.”
She giggled noticing the moms with toddlers trying to distract their kids while they shot daggers at her and Luke.
She took one more look at the angry Starbucks guy standing inside with his hands on his hips and then looked out into the pouring rain and thought, fuck it. She stepped out from under the awning pulling Luke with her and getting soaked to the skin instantly.
“Julie!” he laughed. “What are you doing?”
She laughed continuing to walk backwards down the street pulling him along with her. “I’m saving the children from our debauchery.”
As she walked backwards she tilted her head back to the sky and let the rain slick her hair back. Once they were out of sight of the Starbucks she looked for a less conspicuous place for them to stop and pick up where they’d left off.
Flynn was sick back in their room so if she wanted to keep kissing her boyfriend her options were limited. She spotted a large tree in a green space between a couple shops and pulled him under. It didn’t completely block them from the rain but it was definitely better.
Julie wrapped her arms back around his neck pulling his face down to hers. “Where were we?”

I’d Tell You I Love You, but Then I’d Have to Kill You by kybee1497
Julie Molina, 3rd generation legacy and senior at the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women.
Luke Patterson, prodigy of the Blackthorne Institue for Boys.
The two first met last year during their spring final exam. He flirted. She used him. They both lied. But Luke cheated and Julie hasn’t forgiven it, she definitely hasn’t forgotten, and she can’t quite shake the blow to her confidence the encounter left.
But what was supposed to be a one off, turns out to be a lot more when Blackthorne joins Gallagher Academy for the year and suddenly Luke is everywhere. He’s cocky, charming, and drives her crazy but the look in his eyes when she aces a test or hands him is ass in gym sends butterflies fluttering through her stomach.
Which is stupid because Julie has more important things to worry about. Like passing her classes and getting through her final year. Like why her mothers been acting so weird, stress lining her eyes. Like why exactly the Blackthorne boys are here this year and what exactly happened to Headmaster Covington. Like what she’s going to do after graduation… if they even get there, because the mystery of Blackthorne is far more dangerous than they could have ever guessed.

Thinking about a Juke AU where Julie wins some sort of singing contest and becomes a popstar. But then her mother dies, and Julie is incapable of writing new music. However, the show must go on. So her management hires a ghostwriter: Luke.

Summary:
“What’s wrong?” Luke was suddenly on alert. “No, nothing bad,” Julie amended. “I… don’t know…” She sighed. “We agreed to leave for a while so we could just be us-” “Julie-” “But I just- There are things I don’t- Things I don’t know, things you don’t know-” “Julie-” “Nobody knows us here and if we don’t even attempt-” “Julie, I need you to duck!” Julie had a split second to process what was going on before she smelled the sulfur in the air. She immediately ducked out of Luke’s way just as he grabbed a knife out of his jacket and threw it forward. They hadn’t really brought weapons because they weren’t there as Shadowhunters. Then again Julie always kept her whip on her wrist and she’d assumed that even Luke would be carrying something. Going away completely unarmed wouldn’t be wise in any case. Danger had a way of finding them.

saw there was a new romcom on netflix called love in the villa and although i know nothing about this movie except for the 1 sentence summary and the 30 second preview, i have decided
juke au
they both travel to italy to get away from something (julie (finally) broke it off with nick? her mom’s death anniversary? life? and luke’s run out of juice and inspo and is getting too stressed with the pressures of needing to write a whole new album, etc, you know the gist) and somehow they both managed to double book the same villa.
so they’re both staying there cause both are stubborn and neither one wants to move out and lose, and at first it’s very tense and petty and they’re both throwing sly digs at each other until luke hears soft sobs coming from julie’s room and starts to play a gentle tune on his acoustic and then julie starts unconsciously humming along and then singing a song her mom used to sing to her for comfort and luke’s fingers suddenly slip and the guitar playing stops and julie stops and he falls immediately in love the end

“May I have this dance, Princess?”
The whisper in her ear sends a shiver down her spine. She knows that voice anywhere. She refrains from whipping around to face him like she truly wants to, keeping her composure relaxed as she turns to meet his knowing smirk and the twinkle in his hazel eyes.
Luke knows she hates it when he calls her that—when anyone calls her that. But she’s still inclined to take his outstretched hand in her own, allowing him to lead her to the dance floor.
Julie’s entire life, but more specifically her relationship with Luke is a choreographed dance — constantly toeing the line between loving him unashamedly when no one is looking and keeping up appearances like everyone expects.
To her father’s knowledge, that’s all her interactions with Luke were. Societal mandated niceties and mutual respect and nothing more. Because if it were to go any further, Julie is positive her father and the king of the tiny country both Luke and Julie have called home for most of their lives, would absolutely lose it and likely banish Luke from coming within 100 feet of the palace or Julie herself. Luke is the least suitable partner for the country’s future queen, according to her father. He’ll never be good enough.
Which is why the best they can do, is accept a dance or two from one another—or at least as many as they can without seeming suspicious—and the rest of their time together is spent behind closed doors, in between Julie’s various commitments as princess, all in hushed voices and hurried kisses or stolen glances from across the room.
But here, even in a random supply closet off the ballroom with Luke pressing soft kisses down her neck, Julie can live in this tiny bubble of bliss for the rest of her life. Where they write songs, and talk about their dreams that don’t involve laws and crowns and pleasing other people, and the only two people who matter are each other.
Yeah, that’s totally feasible. She’ll just… never go out on dates. Or let anyone publicly court her or get married. She’ll just spend the rest of her life dodging her father’s watchful gaze and anybody in the capital city with eyes, and her security detail, and she’ll pay off Carlos when he inevitably finds out what’s going on and—
Julie doesn’t realize the door is open until she hears a harsh voice shout, “¡Aléjate de la princesa!”
Before either of them can truly react, Luke is pulled away from her and manhandled into handcuffs like a common criminal.
“No, Luke! Let him go!!” she shouts, moving to follow him. Her demand goes unheard, as her security hustles Luke out into the hallway, only to shove him against the wall opposite the closet to search him.
“Stop it!” Julie rushes out of the closet, brushing past the guards reaching for her. “He wasn’t hurting me!!”
Luke winces as the guard holding him pulls him away from the wall just enough to shove him against it once more. Despite being rather physically fit himself, he doesn’t see a point in fighting against it. It’ll only make everything worse.
“You idiots, stop it! God, you’re hurting him!” Julie’s voice becomes more and more frantic and Luke can clock the the anger turning to panic in her tone. “Let him go!”
If she doesn’t calm down, she’ll have a full blown panic attack and Luke knows it, but what can he do with his hands cuffed behind his back and his chest pressed against the wall?
“¿Qué está pasando?” Another voice joins the mix. Crap.
“Papí, call them off, please. It’s a misunderstanding,” Julie says in Spanish, though Luke knows enough by now to translate. “He wasn’t hurting me, he would never.” She’s using all her energy to keep her voice from shaking, but if Ray knew her as well as he thought he did, he would hear it.
Without another word, the guards grab Luke, turning him face to face with King Raymond Molina who currently looks the least bit understanding. “Luke,” he says, taking in the sight of Luke in handcuffs. “I thought I told you to stay away from my daughter.”
With a glance at Julie who looks close to tears, but gives the tiniest nod, he looks back at his girlfriend’s father and says with every bit of truth in his being, “I’m sorry for disregarding orders, your highness. But I love your daughter. And by the grace of whatever higher being there is, she loves me too. As long as she’ll have me, I’ll be here. I won’t be sorry for that.”
“¿Qué está pasando? Julie?” A woman with hair and eyes mirroring Julie’s steps into the hallway, wrapping an arm around her daughter immediately. “Luke? Why are you in handcuffs?”
Luke opens his mouth to respond to the queen. “I—“
“He was attacking our daughter, Rose,” Ray tells her.
This sets Julie off again, all of her anger rushing to the surface. “He was not! Mamí, he wasn’t—“
“Shhh, mija, I know,” Rose gently calms her before turning to Luke once more. “Release him.”
“But Rose—“ Ray begins to protest.
“He loves her, Ray. That’s not a crime,” Rose says, glaring daggers at her husband before her expression hardens as she faces the guards once more. “Release him now.”
The guards quickly unlock the cuffs around his wrists, and Luke isn’t ashamed to rub the skin on his wrists.
If this were any other situation, Julie would’ve kept her composure until no one was around, but since she’s already lost her cool once tonight, she doesn’t care anymore. She throws herself into Luke’s chest.
Luke’s arms immediately wrap around her on instinct. “It’s okay, Jules. I’m okay. Just breathe.”
“I think it’s time for you to leave, Luke,” Ray speaks up after a beat.
“No!!” Julie shouts, her grip on Luke tightening. “I’ll never see you again,” she says into his chest. “He won’t allow it.”
“Hey,” he says, cradling her cheek in his hand to catch her attention. Her beautiful brown eyes shine up at him and it truly isn’t fair but if there’s one thing Luke doesn’t do, it’s make promises he can’t keep. “You won’t lose me. I promise.”
She takes hold of his wrist that’s pressed against her cheek, turning her head to give the softest kiss Luke’s ever received in his entire life. It threatens to turn his legs into mush. “Promise.”
Luke presses a kiss to her forehead as a silent goodbye and leaves the palace that night without a fight. He immediately heads back to the apartment he shares with Reggie and Alex to begin plotting his way around this. Because if it’s the last thing he does, he’ll be with Julie Molina.
~
Very sad to make Ray the bad guy but unfortunately someone has to be. Also my Spanish is very rusty so I may have relied on a translator. Pls don’t sue me. Part 2 here!
“¡Aléjate de la princesa!” = Step away from the princess
¿Qué está pasando? = What’s happening?
