I’ve seen your anon answer of explanations for se, but this instance is tripping me up. In ‘esto se lo dedico’ I understand the meaning close to ‘this one’s for you’ and such, but could you please explain what is the se doing here, what is its function?
Ah, okay this is a weird special case you're seeing
That isn't a typical se, it's a replacement for an indirect object
When you have indirect objects [me, te, le, les, nos, os] + direct objects [me, te, lo / la, los / las, nos, os] you have a small rule when you have 3rd person + 3rd person
...
In other words, if you're trying to write le or les + lo, la, los, las the indirect object will change to se. This is because le/les sounds really strange with lo, la, los, las... and a word like lelo/a for example means "silly". It has something to do with a "this would sound weird, so we changed it" tendency in Spanish:
Le dedico el poema. = I dedicate the poem to him/her/usted. Les dedico el poema. = I dedicate the poem to them/ustedes. Lo dedico. = I dedicate it. Se lo dedico (a él, a ella, a usted). = I dedicate it to them [singular]. = I dedicate it to them [plural].
Similarly on a radio, if you ask for a song the expression is poner la canción "to put on a song", so you might see someone say se la pongo which is roughly "here you go", but more literally "I'm putting it on for you (usted)"... but you could also see te la pongo normally "for you" informal
-
In summation:
Your direct object is the thing, and the indirect object is to whom/for whom... so if both are 3rd person, that's when you see the se take over for indirect objects
The le/les and indirect objects takes the place of 3rd person singular and plural respectively, and in English we usually use "them" unless we know specifically "to whom"; in Spanish it can be the same
Because the se could be for literally any 3rd person + direct object, you might see the recipient specified with a (alguien)
As an example:
Se lo dedico a mi padre. = I dedicate it to my father. Se lo dedico a mis padres. = I dedicate it to my parents.
The a (alguien) is optional, only preferred if it's going to be ambiguous. Without context you'd understand it as "I dedicate it to them" where just like English that se as "them" in this case could be singular or plural
Similarly with that poner la canción example... se la pongo could be "I'm playing it for them" singular or even a "you" (usted), or it could be "I'm playing it for them" plural or "you all" (ustedes).
For any other person - me, te, nos, os - there's no change
Me lo dedicó. = He/She dedicated it to me. Te la pongo. = I'll play it for you. Nos manda el paquete. = He/She is sending us the package. Nos lo manda. = He/She is sending it to us. Os digo que... = I'm telling you all that... [os = vosotros/vosotras which is Spain, specifically] Os lo dije. = I told you all. / That's what I told you. / I told you (all) so.

When her father opened the bedroom door, he found her on the other side of the bed, and asked her, "What are you doing there on the floor naked?" She answered, "I'm looking for an earring, Dad," and he began to list all the tasks she would have to do throughout the day, while his index and ring fingers continued to probe inside him, slowly trying not to make noise, while his eyes focused on the enormous package that was marked in his jeans, he only knew how to say
-Yes Daddy-
-Yes Daddy-
—yes of course daddy—
—Yes, dad—while her gaze was clouding, and she tried not to reach her goal in front of him.
—Okay, okay daddy—
and as soon as he closed the door and left, she, pressing hard inside her, began to convulse, leaving herself completely exhausted, it was the most incredible she had had so far, she stayed on the floor for a few seconds, trying to compose herself.

~
God knows it’s trying.
He must know.
He has to.
God sees all you try to hide in the corners of your dark heart. But you cannot hide your sins from the Father. His light will shine on your wrongs. His holy fire will burn away all that is dead and rotting.
However, to the creature, all light burns it. The sun might as well be holy fire to its flesh, its dead body razed again and again. It must have so much rot, so much filth, inside it for the fire to have failed to cleanse it.
It doesn’t want to burn anymore.
God comes to all whose hearts are open to His mercy.
It had recited its words well that evening.
It had been given some cloth as a blanket.
Blessing, benediction, barearav.
It did not have to sleep upon the blessed marble, brown and black and red against the white, scorching, sand under sun at full noon, blistering and writhing upon it as it could not sleep.
It was small and torn and red, too shabby for some dead cardinal, it was too flimsy to give much fuel to the stove.
It was good enough for a good creature.
Not a good creature.
It had been good.
It was not good.
It had not forgotten anything, had not misspoken once in repeating the words from the red book.
Its tongue was swollen, thick and unwieldy, behind its teeth, its fangs hissing and sputtering upon those words, faltering from its lips, water on a skillet.
Its mouth was thick, river gush through a tiny crack, air tumbling and altering shape, the words sounded different then how Father had said them.
Wrong.
Father hadn’t minded. Father had prayed over it, laid a hand on its head, his rings red stone grazing gentle as a feather over its brow. Not splitting. Heavy rings split and blackened, turned things blue and yellow and red, but his had not.
Father said that God had been pleased.
The Father had been pleased and so Father was also pleased.
Sometimes it cannot tell if God is Father, the priest and the god bleeding together.
I am a representative of God on earth and I intercedeth on behalf of sinners the way that Christ intervened.
Its flaccid muscles ached with the effort of keeping its form curled up. Despite being small, it was a struggle to fit its body over the cloth completely. Letting its limbs sag would bring the flesh against the floor and blister. So it curled and kept itself taut, tight, coiled on the robe.
Its blistered spine arched like the serrated teeth of a knife around a tangle of spindly legs and arms, coiled over the parts of it that were no longer soft but would always been tender. Organs inside bones inside skin. Body inside church inside the night.
Red inside white inside dark inside red inside white inside dark.
It would only doze with its effort to keep its flesh within the borders of the crimson cloth, but there was some part of it which did not hurt tonight.
It had tried, it had been so good.
She’d--
Dead cardinal, a bird, wings flat against the pavement. A man, red beads, strings of crimson cherries, counting, numbering. Many red drops, blood, unseen until it crept from under the still feathers, didn’t see it was bloody until the blood got on the pavement. One, two, three, four, so many red beads. So many things to forgive. The red prayers roll like beads across stone. Mulengi dori. The red bird is dead, it can’t die, it dies and dies and dies. Red beads on bracelets, not threads, on bracelets, on arms, on ankles, clinking, dancing, red lips, red veils. Still feathers on the red breast, breasts, wings stretched wide to show bare berk. The bird is bleeding, mindj red inside, red outside, puterdea, sharp red, red lips stretch, red tongues lick. Red flame licks, red upon red, fire upon blood. bad, bad, bad and red. Lolo, lolo, lolo.
It flicked its eyes up to the treshul which hung above the alter.
It usually shuddered beneath the shadow of it, cowering away from the silhouettes limned with the blue-yellow-redlight, the colored glass mercifully dulling the sun, those terrible eyes, sharp and flat and looking down on it.
Yet tonight it peered up and looked at the dangling man.
His feet and hands were pierced by nails, staked into the wooden beams. Silver nails. They did not burn him but they throbbed, knife-life, through his blood, the agony spreading outwards into his body like wildfire.
Being hung by your hands was awful.
He was hurting so much.
Chindilan?
He knew how it felt. How much it hurt.
Surely…he would take karuṇā on it?
He knew.
So why did He not help her?
Bad. Blood. Red.
He had. He had told Father to give it this robe.
It was trying so hard.
He must see have seen that.
He must.
He must.
~
do i have time to create a new character? fuck no! am i? absolutely.
(glossary of romani words/phrases: barearav - “to honor, respect, obey”, berk - “breast”, chindilan - “are you fed up? Weary?”, karuṇā - compassion and pity, lolo - “red”, mindj - “female genitals”, mulengi dori - “dead man’s string” (to call upon dead spirits as protection), pertudea - “to straddle the legs open”, treshul - “Christian crucifix”)

Slave Market House in Center of Downtown Fayetteville NC
the market house as it is known is in the middle of downtown fayetteville. it has a troubled past in the african american community. though it is admired by the city and used as a trophy for the city’s “business of the year” award, the history of this building and area is lynching and selling of african american slaves. the city of fayetteville has known that most african americans in the city wish for it to be taken down and replaced with something more positive about african american history. the market house building is a reminder of slavery and fuels white supremacy. it should be replaced with a beautiful landmark funded by an annual city or state grant and remain a historic site.

“Ghost: Retelling the Phantom of the Opera”
THE WORLD'S MOST HAUNTING LOVE STORY--AS YOU HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED IT BEFORE... A cavalier vicomte--the new owner of the theatre--insists on having his own work performed, all the while being haunted by a devilish spirit. A young soprano's grief for her father's death has robbed her of her ability to sing. A world-famous tenor has been mysteriously summoned to Paris... And a shadowy figure lurks through the opera house, torn between his desire for love and beauty, and his need for a terrible revenge.
https://www.amazon.com/Ghost-Retelling-Phantom-Alydia-Rackham-ebook/dp/B0868X2RLQ/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=phantom+of+the+opera+retelling&qid=1611947719&sr=8-1 EXCERPT FROM CHAPTER ELEVEN: “Mamselle, your hands are like ice,” Mercier whispered. “Please, let me help you.” “I’m all right, Mercier,” she answered. “I…I need to watch…” She let go of him and pressed herself into the curtain, her attention fixed on the stage. The stagehands were setting it with the dining table of Don Giovanni’s house, laden with wax foods. The lights came on. Musicians, Giovanni, and Leporello entered, and began their banter once more. The music became uneasy. It stirred and shifted, like a sleeping dragon. Donna Elvira appeared, making one last plea that Don Giovanni repent from his wicked ways. Giovanni refused, and Elvira turned to flee through the upstage door in tears— Screamed. Christine frowned. Tonight—that scream sounded different. She strained to see… Giovanni and Leporello argued about who could be at the door that would scare Elvira so badly. Dreadful knocks upon the wood. Leporello hid. Giovanni went to the upstage door himself. Opened it. The Commendatore stood in the doorway. Stony drapery cascading around him. A sword on his belt. His helmet gleaming in the lights. Giovanni recoiled. Mozart’s music gasped—and let out a fatal scream of its own. A chill raced down Christine’s spine. Silence. The Commendatore slowly raised an arm… But instead of pointing down at Giovanni… His finger directed the entire opera house to look to Box Five. “Don Giovanni! You invited me to dinner—and I have come!” The violins played a sinister pulse beneath the deliberate hammer-fells of that voice—that voice, without guttural resonance or sharp vibrato—only pure, fearsome penetrating tone. An instrument more perfect than mortal hands could contrive. Its power pierced to bone, filling the theatre, shaking the very floorboards. Rinaldi and Paquet—Giovanni and Leporello—looked stricken to the core. They stumbled, gaped at each other in confusion—but the music went on. So, they had to sing. And they did sing. As if a spell had been put upon them by that entrancing, terrible voice: they sang as they never had before. With his outstretched right hand, the Commendatore seemed to twist his fingers around Rinaldi and Paquet’s very souls, rending notes from their bodies like water from rags. But the Commendatore never addressed them, never pulled his dreadful gaze down from that box. And each phrase fell like a clap of thunder down upon the heads of those sitting in it. “Repent! Change your ways, For this is your last hour! Repent, villain! Repent! Yes! Yes! YES!” Suddenly, the statue flung its hand in the air, as if about to call down lightning. “Ah! Your time is finished!” And in a blaze of flame, and a billow of his cape, he vanished through the upstage door. An icy feeling of dread swallowed Christine. Rinaldi shared her foreboding. He shot anxious looks at Paquet as he continued to sing. “What strange fear now attacks my soul! Where do these fires of horror come from?” The chorus of “demons” now began to lurk onstage, their leering masks twisting and turning as they crept closer, and joined their voices: “No horror is too awful for you! There is far worse in store!” CRACK! BOOM. Christine’s head jerked up. A blinding flash overtook the ceiling. A cloud of dust exploded around the chandelier.

BBC Merlin vs Kaamelott - Personnages - Arthur, Merlin
Donc no worries :)
Fanon : Merthur all the way, quelques autres ships
Start like that/end like that :
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Fanon : oh my god they were labmates
Tumblr media
Points communs : Ils s’appellent Merlin. ... euh ...

CAMH urges alternative to police for mental health checks
Canada’s largest centre specializing in mental health has joined a growing chorus calling for an alternative to police in response to a series of disturbing deaths and arrests that occurred during mental wellness checks.
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) posted a statement on Twitter on Tuesday, calling for “a new way forward.”
“Recent events have exposed the tragic outcomes that can occur when people with mental illness experience a crisis in the community and are not able to get the care that they need,” the statement reads. “Racism and anti-Black racism compound these crisis interactions.
“Police should not be the first responders when people are in crisis in the community. Police are not trained in crisis care and should not be expected to lead this important work.”
The statement comes amid heightened scrutiny of police forces and the treatment of people struggling with mental health crises.
Over the past three months, numerous people have died at the hands of police while in mental distress or after officers were called for a mental wellness check.
D’Andre Campbell, a 26-year-old Black man from Brampton, Ont. who had schizophrenia, was shot and killed inside his own home on April 6 after he called police for aid.
Regis Korchinski-Paquet, a 29-year-old Black-Indigenous woman, fell to her death on May 27 from a high-rise apartment after police were called for a wellness check.
Chantel Moore, a 26-year-old Indigenous woman, was shot and killed by police in Edmundston, N.B., on June 4 after her boyfriend called police to conduct a wellness check because he was concerned that she was being harassed.
Only a week later, there was another fatal police shooting in New Brunswick: Rodney Levi, a 48-year-old Indigenous man, was killed by RCMP on June 12. His sister told APTN News that he struggled with mental health.
Dr. David Gratzer, a psychiatrist with CAMH, told CTV News on Wednesday that “we can do better.”
“A mental health crisis is a mental health problem, and I think these are best handled by people who’ve been trained in mental health care, and have years of experience delivering mental health care,” he said.
“I don’t think policing should be involved, period.”
Advocates have been calling for the police to be defunded and community-based alternatives to be created for weeks, ever since protests against anti-Black racism and police violence broke out in the U.S. at the end of May. That call has only increased as the impact of policing on those struggling with mental health became one of the focuses in Canada.
Today, we released the following statement on police interactions with people in mental health crisis. #MentalHealthIsHealth pic.twitter.com/ibrqhdotC4
— CAMH (@CAMHnews) June 23, 2020
Gratzer pointed out that many people who are living with mental health have had negative interactions with police officers before, making them ill-equipped for de-escalation.
“As a result, when they see someone in uniform, that’s very unsettling for them,” he said.
This echoes what family members of 62-year-old Ejaz Choudry tried to tell police officers on June 20 before officers fatally shot him.
The father of four was shot in Mississauga, Ont., after police were called to the scene by paramedics -- the family had initially called the non-emergency line for an ambulance to help Choudry, who they say had schizophrenia, during an episode.
Choudry’s nephew, Khizar Shahzad, told media that he had tried to tell police that their presence would not help calm his uncle.
"He's scared of your uniform. He's scared of your big guns," he recalled telling police. "If you go upstairs with that, he's going to be scared. He's having an episode."
According to Brenda Lucki, RCMP Commissioner, the RCMP responds to “close to 10,000 calls a month or more, just on mental health crisis.
“In 2016, we introduced de-escalation and crisis intervention … Our calls to mental health are growing exponentially,” she told members of the House of Commons public safety and national security committee Tuesday.
She said that she has “been listening,” and that “the calls for action have been heard,” but struggled to discuss systemic racism within the RCMP beyond an acknowledgment that it exists, and defended the police force as necessary for handling mental health calls.
Read more: Asked about systemic racism in RCMP, Lucki discusses different heights of officers
“When a person is in crisis at 3 o’clock in the morning, when somebody’s wielding a knife and they’re suffering from a mental health crisis, that is not the time to bring in mental health practitioners,” she said. "It’s time for the RCMP to go in, get that person calm, get them to a place of safety, and get them the help they need.”
But in many of the cases that have come to light recently, this compassionate de-escalation is far from what actually occurs when police arrive.
In Choudry’s case, family members said police had shot him within seconds of entering his apartment, and that there was no attempt made to talk to him aside from shouting commands at him in English -- a language he did not speak. Police have said that Choudry had access to weapons in his apartment.
Just this week, a nursing student from B.C. launched a lawsuit against the RCMP after video was released showing an officer dragging her handcuffed down the hallway of her residence, deliberately stepping on her head and pulling her torso off the ground by her hair. The officer listed in the lawsuit claimed she found Mona Wang with a weapon and that she was behaving in an “erratic manner.”
Wang told CTV News on Tuesday that she was suffering from a panic attack after self-harming, and that the officer kicked her when she was unable to stand up.
Gratzer said that it is clear that, at this point, more police reform is not the way forward. The focus should not be on “improving our approach, but coming up with a different approach,” he said.
CAMH said in their statement that Canada should learn from international models where the first responder to a mental wellness check is a person trained exclusively in dealing with mental health and crisis intervention. The bottom line, they say, is that police should not be called in these scenarios.
Gratzer said there were examples “in the northwestern United States, where there are alternatives to police officers attending to these matters.”
“In well under one per cent of these cases they need to eventually involve police because of the possibility of a weapon,” he said, adding that safety is important. “But the first responder is somebody from mental health care, not somebody in a uniform [who has] perhaps some additional training, but no true expertise.
“Of course, these are complicated situations, and they demand complicated solutions, but at the end of the day […] if you had chest pain, would you not want a health professional to help you out?” Gratzer pointed out. “If you have a mental health crisis, it’s the same, you just want somebody with expertise in that area.”

WARLOCK FIEND Patron - TIEFLING Baalzebub heritage - City watch (Investigator)*
I know, a tiefling with a fiend patron is kind of cliché, but that’s what my random generator gave me. I just embraced what the tarots decided later on too. I think people that like to play grayer character will like this one, because if you have to go for cliché, might as well go all in, right? (PS: anybody notices a pattern with the tarots in the photo? Or is the quality too crappy?)
Name: Djitha (28 yo)
Tumblr media
TAROTS
Mind: Seven of swords (upright) A card about mental manipulation as “mind” is a pretty harsh introduction. But I know some players enjoy very much playing these “on the line of being a bad guy” kind of characters. Anyway, despite that first impression of lies and trickery, let’s not forget that there’s as well an undertone of adaptability and sharp wit connected to this tarot. So despite it all, Djitha is very clever in the way she deceits people. She plans, she tries to always be a step ahead of the game, which is probably how she gets away with her bad deeds.
Body: Eight of cups (reversed) I usually relate this card to a low of self-esteem, but in Djitha’s case I feel like it’s more likely that all of the manipulating she does kind of made her forget to actually focus on her own emotions. She might be the kind of person that hides behind her lies for fear of being rejected, sure that there’s nothing interesting about her true self. So, at the end of the day we actually come back to some latent self-esteem issues in a roundabout way… For some reason I also had this very strong feeling that she would be the kind of person that strongly dislikes any kind of physical contact.
Spirit: Knight of cups (reversed) And we even get an explanation for her “body” issues. A broken heart by another manipulator, someone that got her in a very unhealthy relationship and broke her “spirit” to the point that she decided that she wanted to become just like them so that nobody else would play her like that ever again. Full circle back to “mind”. This card also tells me that sometimes Djitha jumps to conclusions and has tantrums, so despite how smart she is and how much she plans… well, maybe she isn’t that wise after all.
Past: Five of pentacles (upright) Not surprising that in the past of poor Djitha there’s a tarot that is very much about hardship, bad luck and breakups. It’s pretty obvious that her life was not easy in the past but her background connected to this tarot and to her tendency to lie, made me really think that she had both a hard childhood, a nasty abusive relationship in her teen years, AND some kind of scandal related to her work when she was a grown up because of her manipulations and lies.
Present: Two of pentacles (reversed) This card just confirmed my suspicions. The poor decisions she has made in the past probably left poor Djitha in a bit of a pickle financially speaking. And for a person like her that really likes to feel like she has control of everything, even a little setback is kind of a big deal that would make her spiral even more in tantrums and uncontrollable fits of rage for the things she doesn’t know how to control. She’s probably in the “trying too hard” phase after that mess. Which would probably mean lying a lot but in a very careful way (so, not a lot of speaking, really), lots of brooding and thinking way too loud (but overall a lack of actual organisation), and maybe a short fuse on those tantrums.
Future: The Moon (reversed) Once again, full circle and right back to the top. She will get out of that funk in the future, but it kind of seems it could go in two ways: either by deceiving even herself that everything is gonna be okay because her lies have already been discovered and she can build some new one on the ashes of those, or by actually admitting the truth and living with the consequences of her actions. Still, the major point of this tarot is that she’ll soon be dealing with mental issues. And I already pointed out how many Djitha has, of course. So, my suggestion is that whatever ends up happening while playing, this decision on which path to follow should also very much be related to how much her fears and issues are explored with the other members of the party.
FULL BACKSTORY
Djitha was pretty much rejected from birth by her family. Her parents were both humans, and despite having two older sisters, Minea and Lahrysa, she was the only member of the Elair family of infernal heritage. Her father Haluk especially blamed Djitha for the sickness that made her mother Riette die prematurely when Djitha was just three years old. Haluk somehow also found a way to blame her for their life on the street, despite that being the way they always lived, dirt poor since Djitha had memory. Despite the hate she received from her family, Djitha was easily loved by others around her, especially because she quickly learned how to be a people-pleaser and how much she could gain if she just smiled a little bit even to those she didn’t necessarily like. It also helped to keep a semblance of peace with her father, who was pleased when she brought back food or some coin when she begged in front of shops. When she was around fourteen, her father pretty much abandoned her because he thought she was adult enough to feign for herself. Already used to a life of begging, Djitha was convinced that she could become a thief, but she was quickly caught red handed; like always, it was her attitude of manipulating the truth and people that got her out of the situation. She convinced the chief of the city guards that she could be more useful working for them, investigating the less reputable areas and reporting back suspicious activities, since she was so well know and loved. Because of her job and the sense of fulfillment she felt when she helped the guards to catch criminals, Djitha got involved with a man, Temithope Paquet, a bit of a celebrity of the local criminal syndicate (almost a criminal right under the nose of the guards that could not be caught because proof against him always had a way of being misplaced). He was way older than her, but Djitha was sure that she couldn’t be fooled by him. Either because Temithope was very good at persuading people, or because she was very young and lonely, Djitha actually fell for him pretty quickly and became his pawn that would give information on the guards activities so that the syndicate could do whatever they pleased. It only took a couple of months of abusive relationship filled with demeaning comments, before eavesdropping on one of his conversations with someone else from the syndicate made Djitha decide that enough was enough. Djitha finally saw how empty all of Temithope’s promises of easy riches and power were, and decided that she would no longer be his plaything. Trying to seek revenge, Djitha actually convinced the chief of the city watch that she had been trying to play the long-con with Temithope and gave them a bunch of proof of all the nasty things Temithope been doing in those months. With her abuser finally behind bars (despite him promising revenge for it), she was allowed to become officially part of the investigation team. At first Djitha thought that she would find a new purpose in her career. But she soon found out that she was still considered a nobody and that trying to do things “the right way”, by following the rules wasn’t gonna get her anything (especially nor riches neither power). Unlike breaking them, which she had somewhat positive experience with overal (she could actually order around people when she was under Temithope’s protection). So she started, once again, working with the criminals in the city. Djitha was sure she was doing alright; people in the guards were happy with her tips on meaningless goons while she protected people in high places in the criminal hierarchy. Everything was fine, and she was starting to grow a reputation again, until, during a massive investigation with people undercover, she was finally sussed out. Desperate to get out of town and find a way to keep being hidden, it was easy for Djitha to accept the offer her patron made her to give her the power she so desperately craved and that surely would keep her out of jail. She had things to do for her patron now, after all, it was in her patron’s interest to keep are hidden…
SUGGESTION CORNER
Suggested features Ability scores: High Charisma and Intelligence, Low Wisdom and Strength Skill proficiencies: Deception, Intimidation. *Instead of Insight from the Investigator Background, talk with your DM and ask if you could go for either Stealth or proficiency in thieves’ tools; I feel like it fits better with the complete story of being involved with criminals so much. Others: I suggest either pact of the Chain or pact of the Tome. I do think this character would be a very nice multiclass wizard, but spellcasting multiclass is kind of a pain, so I get why you might want to stay away from a thing like that. I decided not to go into details on the Patron. It’s very much a matter to be discussed with the DM in my opinion, so I kept as vague as possible on that matter.
Suggested Characteristics Trait: I think money is the true measure of appreciation and affection. Everything else is talk or an act. Ideal: Money and power can be gained more easily with a fake smile than a real opinion. I plan to gain as much as possible. Bond: My past mistakes cost me dearly. I’m actually, maybe, a little on the run for a crime. Flaw: People who can’t take care of themselves get what they deserve (something she actually “learned” from that abusive relationship and VERY MUCH applies to herself most of all).

(Emilia Clarke, 26/257 , cisfemale, she/her) The war is about to start Delphine Rosette Paquet. We see that you will be fighting for the NEITHER family as a Vampire. She reminds me of Forests in the dead of winter, gunpowder and smoke, braided hair, rusted rapiers, melting candles, violin music. We wish you luck. (Megs)

Delphine was born in the dead of winter, to a poor peasant family outside of Paris. They lived in the woods and cut and sold firewood, her father would bring it in to the city every day to sell and while he was there, he would buy what they needed or, rather, what they could. She had ten brothers and a sister all younger than her, but most would never live past five years old. Winters were hard and there wasn’t much to eat and the firewood was paying less and less, times were desperate, all the while she heard little stories about people living in palaces made of gold, with cups and plates that never emptied. She would think of these people while she held her mother, weeping over the passing of another of her babies, and an anger sparked in her that turned into a blaze.
When she was sixteen, her father passed away, some unknown sickness, they couldn’t afford a doctor to say for sure. Her mother tried to pressure her to marry, early for a peasant girl but without any money, it was the easiest way to guarantee they would eat. Delphine refused and decided, instead, to dress as a man and continue to deliver the fire wood. Her father’s clothes were far too big but that worked in her favour, concealing her form, protecting her from the leering of strange men…or so she thought.
She caught the eye of an odd merchant, he was like a shadow, her shadow. He was tall and pale, beautiful but scary. She would try to loose him in the woods, on the road, in the streets but somehow he always found her. The man said nothing, he just watched her, like he was waiting for something to happen. From his clothes she could tell he was rich so she didn’t tell her mother, knowing she would want her to get close to him with the aim of marriage. Besides her shadow, things were good, at least they were good as they could be but nothing ever lasts..
When she was twenty, a horrible sickness broke out and her family was decimated. She was unable to leave her home, sick, watching the sickness chip away at brother after brother, her dear sister, her mother. One by one, they slowly died all around her, she was sure she would join them and their father in heaven but somehow she lived, alongside her youngest two brothers. The stress, the trauma of it all, she was shocked to see her brown hair turned shocking white.
She knew her family shouldn’t have been made to suffer the way they had. She hated the noble class with every fibre of her being so when she found the revolution, she jumped in with both feet. She went by the name Jaques among her fellow revolutionaries, she had a reputation for being especially spirited, brave, small but mighty they said.
The night before the Storming of the bastille, the shadow approached her, “Why would you throw your life away so?” he asked
“I may live,” she said, “I live now and I choose to give my life to this!” she pilled away from his grip, running away to join the fray.
A bayonet got her, she slowly bled out, they believed she was dead, she did as well, she felt herself dying…but then she awoke with a powerful thirst. Around her was darkness and stone but she could tell she was income sort of cellar. She looked down at her clothes, they were finer than anything she’d seen. She tested all of her newfound strength against those stone walls and the door but she couldn’t free herself. Finally, she felt herself drying out, she had no strength left. The shadow entered, “let me go…”she whimpered.
“Do you promise to love me?” he said. He looked so sad, so pathetic.
Her desperation turned to rage “Never,” she spat.
“Perhaps you will feel differently in ten years…or a hundred,” he mused, as if he was discussing the weather. he left her there in that dark room and her consciousness faded from her, until she was petrified.
The revolution found the castle and her shadow was forced away from her. In that room she remained, dormant, sleeping, a beautiful corpse. In the nineteen nineties, the room she was in was finally forced open and her body was brought to museum after museum, kept secret, scientists unable to explain her preservation. In the year twenty twenty, her corpse was loaned to a small research institute in Cresthill, one that specified in mummification. A horrible accident occurred, there was an argument and glass was broken, so was skin. The scent of blood sparked her mind, the instinctive part of it. Red droplets flew, soaking into her, she was thirsty, so thirsty…
Her eyes snapped open, it was all a blur, one moment she was dead in a basement and the next she was hovered over two dead bodies, drained of every last drop of their blood, in a room full of magical objects, shining tables, glowing lights…but where was the fire? What lit them? Where was she?
Delphine wandered out, through the mysterious building, into the night, and a world full of lights and a strange language…
