Is there a way to like tell your friends to `fuck off` in Spanish used in Spain? Or is this even a thing?
Absolutely there is - Followers if I miss your favorite one please comment below
A very basic universal one is no me jodas which is literally "don't fuck with me" like "fuck off" or "cut it out" or "don't joke" etc
Others are like vete a la mierda which is "go fuck yourself" but literally "go to shit" or vete al carajo which is the same thing but literally "go to dick"; [in Mexico you'd probably hear vete a la chingada]
Another one for Spain is something like (irse) a tomar por culo which is literally "go take it up the ass" kind of like a "go fuck yourself" thing
The less vulgar one for Spain is que te den but it's still kinda vulgar; it's "(I hope) that they give it to you"
And another one that most people would understand is chúpamela which is "suck it" but it's "suck my dick" essentially
-
The not very nice but not explicitly vulgar one is púdrete which is literally "go rot"
Note: a lot of these are commands, all in tú but it could be plural if you were addressing a lot of people too - or potentially usted possibly

From posse to potēre
The Romance verbs for 'can; to be able to', such as Spanish poder, Italian potere and French pouvoir, stem from Latin, but not from Classical Latin posse. Instead, they come from Popular Latin potēre, a regularised version of highly irregular posse. The infographic tells you the whole story.

dear non-spanish speakers writing spiderverse fanfiction (or anything with spanglish),
Tumblr media
in spanglish you don’t switch by word, you switch by phrase.
it’s not:
“[first part of the sentence in english], [second part of the sentence in english], mi amor.”
“[full english sentence], querida.”
it’s:
“[first part of the sentence in english], [segunda parte de la frase en español], mi amor.”
-
also miles is boricua, miguel is mexican. they have two different accents and use different vocabulary for certain words.
also miles is “nyourican” - a puerto rican native to new york - while his mom is directly from the island, so there are differences there, too, because his spanish is more influence by new york english.
here’s some good references that aren’t google translate (which usually pulls from spain, a country that speaks vastly differently from latin america)
SpanishDict
WordReference
here have some random videos on different slang/spanish accents:
Puerto Rico
Mexico (1) (2)
-
in spanish most words are gendered, so most feminine words end in a and masculine/gender neutral words end in o. adding ito/ita makes something cuter, smaller and more affectionate.
spanish nicknames that aren’t “mi amor”
“querido/a” - darling
“cariño” - dear (always masculine regardless, of who its being said to)
“mi princesa/príncipe” - my prince/princess
“mi rey/reina” - my king/queen
“papí/mamí” - can be used in any way; romantic, sexual, familial for one’s parent or child, or just platonically
“tesoro” - treasure
also spanish is a language that uses adjectives as terms of affection both cute ones and ones that might sound insensitive in english
gordo (fat), flaco (skinny), negro (black), blanco (white), linda (pretty), bella (beautiful), morena (brown skin), etc.
and like most languages that are not english, spanish has multiple ways of saying i love you.
“te amo” - romantic
“te quiero” - familial, platonic (although there’s nothing wrong with using it romantically)
see also:
te adoro - i adore you
te deseo - i want you
te necesito - i need you
and, of course, they can vary regionally too.
please use this because i have read a lot of really well written things that take me out of it because the use of spanglish is terrible. don’t just go on your presumptions that spanish/spanglish works in the same way that english does.
buena suerte, gringos.

Another of my favorite etymologies is el aquelarre which is "a coven (of witches)"
It is most likely derived from Basque where it meant "meadow of the male goat", almost definitely a reference to the Devil and how Christianity turned former symbols into devil motifs
The word "aker" as "billy goat" or "male goat" also appears in Akerbeltz, which means "black goat" and it was something very similar to Pan in Greek mythology (and other European mythologies), where it was a symbol of animals and nature; then Christianity came in and turned the goat into one of the symbols of the Devil [horns, goat motifs, cloven feet/having hooves], and so the Akerbeltz became a symbol of demon worship by pagans
Again, common in other European countries where different horned animals or deities were linked to devil worship because Christianity
The word aquelarre also can mean "witches' Sabbath", where supposedly witches met to reaffirm their vows - like the opposite of nuns. Usually these supposed meetings were in fields or forests or in the mountains [like Bald Mountain in Slavic folklore, or something similar to Walpurgis Night in Germanic folklore]

In the Spanish Gravity Falls dub, the “My ex-wife still misses me..but her aim is getting better!”
Is translated as “My ex-esposa todavía me quiere…¡me quiere matar!”
Roughly translating to “My ex-wife still wants me… wants me dead!”

Congo is silently going through a silent genocide. Millions of people are being killed so that the western world can benefit from its natural resources.
More than 60% of the world's cobalt reserves are found in Congo, used in the production of smartphones.
Western countries are providing financial military aid to invade regions filled with reserves and in the process millions are getting killed and millions homeless.
Multinational mining companies are enslaving people especially children to mine.
