Fandom observation nicknames and funny tags: Part One Piece

Okay, one piece fandom it's your turn and I'm going to highlight your creativity. Again this is not meant to shame or call anyone out. I am genuinely impressed with the creativity and you guys made me laugh. So again in my opinion these were too good just to be lost in the tags or in the anonymous messages, several you sent me. So expand post at your own risk. This one is unhinged

I have mentioned this before, but for some reason that is beyond me. One Piece fandom you guys refer to your characters as daddy and mommy (And it's in a kinky way) way more than any fandom. I think I should just start with the list of characters that have been labeled as such before I go into the creative names for individual characters. Because trust me who makes the list and who doesn't is actually funny.

One piece Daddy's: Shanks, Mihawk, Buggy, Sir Crocodile, Benn Beckman, Killer, Sanji, Rayleigh, Roger, Doflamingo, Rosinante/Corazon, Katakuri, Ivankov, Arlong, Yamato, Marco, Izou, Smoker, Garp, Sengoku, Zeff, Kuzan/Aokiji, Kizaru, Fujitora & Akainu

When it comes to the One piece Mommy's: Nico Robin, Boa Hancock, Charlotte Smoothie, Charlotte Galette, Charlotte Amande, Vice admiral doll, Catarina Devon, Ivankov & Crocodile

Now due to popular demand the new category the One Piece Babygirls: Ace, Buggy, Sanji, Luffy, Sabo, Zoro, Ussop, Marco, Crocodile, Doflamingo, Kid, Law, Bepo, Killer, Mihawk, Shanks, Perona, Yamato, Kuzan/Aokiji, Kizaru, Fujitora, Rosinante/Corazon, Katakuri, Smoker, Robin, Nami, Vivi, Jinbe, Hatchan, Roger, Zeff

Now when it comes to individual characters there have been some interesting standouts but I'm just going to do some highlights because you guys have so many characters

I definitely know I'm going to have to add to this since there's so many more characters and you all are definitely going to get more creative after seeing the list.

And a few observations. Why did Sanji make the daddy list and not Zoro? Characters that I thought would be short cliff notes turned into some of the longest sections And characters I thought would have some of the longest sections turned into some of the shortest ones. And I still think this was worse theyn JJK I just forget how unhinged this fandom can be because your unhinged craziness is dispersed amongst so many characters. And I haven't decided which fandom's next.

I now have my answer on why Sanji made the list and not Zoro. Overall the fandom is just thirsty so very thirsty. Hence the many updates to this list

i love seeing fandom trends because like. objectively some of them are quite funny

more specifically i thought abt how funny everyone went "ah yes. watcher branzy" despite him not being a part of evo in the slightest. there is just a large overlap in people who like the gay clown and last life. i say this because ever since martyn brang back watchers, in less than a years time frame, 620 new watcher grian fics were published. before that were only 178 fics tagged that and all of those were made after and the universe was published, the most popular non crossover hermitcraft fanfic, bringing the total amount of grian watcher fics to be 7% of all hermitcraft fics and 6% of all traffic smp fics with a 448% increase of them ever since last life. wild

Am I the only one who thinks it's weird that fandom immediately decides that any characters who interact with other characters they aren't related to are a "found family?"

You can be close friends with someone without considering them family. Yes, even if you've known them since infancy. That's a childhood or family friend, not a sibling. You can also have a close relationship between a younger character and an older character without it being a parental relationship. Teachers and mentors and godparents and cross-gen friendships exist.

Also, this parentification thing happens mostly with male characters? A dude will interact with a younger character one time and suddenly everyone's gushing about he's such a dad. Even, or perhaps especially, when he's clearly awful with kids. But if a female character is standoffish or rude to a kid, then she's a villain or an awful bitch or abusive, and if she's nice to them it's just taken for granted that female characters are supposed to be nurturing and kind to younger characters.

I understand the impulse to say they're "basically related" if people are shipping two characters and it squicks you for whatever reason, but it's gotten to the point that if two characters interact in ANY CONTEXT the fandom starts saying "omg best siblings/parent and child!!" (That is, if they're not shipping it.) Even if it's one character's literal job to hang out with or guide another, like as a boss or a teacher or a bodyguard or a coworker, fans will do this. And often they'll write out the canonical family members by making them dead or abusive or both. It's extremely weird.

Can someone who likes to shoehorn this trope everywhere explain the appeal to me? There's some situations where it's cute, but in many it seems very ooc and it gets kind of boring.

I was thinking of how it used to be a recurring thread in old Gilmore Girls fics (particularly the Good at Dating series) that Andrew (the bookstore guy) and Gypsy were a couple and thinking back I just don't know....how people thought that could be a thing?! I just don't see it. For multiple reasons .

Fandom Observation Nicknames and Funny Tags: Part Jujutsu Kaisen

To add to my fandom behaviors and trends series. I thought it would share some of the funny or slutty nicknames some of the fandoms have given to their characters because trust me some had me laugh out loud and deserve more attention due to the creativity. Not just the nicknames. The tags have also been something to behold. But just in case that's not your thing, I did put a break in the post so expand at your own risk

Now let me make myself perfectly clear this is not meant to shame or call anyone out. I am genuinely impressed with the creativity and you guys made me laugh. So again in my opinion these were too good just to be lost in the tags or in the anonymous messages, several you sent me.

So, let's start with Jujutsu Kaisen because that fandom is the best when it comes to nicknames and absolutely hilarious tags. So here are some of my favorites and they have at least one for every character

Kento Nanami: The Linkedin Daddy, The eldest daughter's dream man, " When you're tired of trying to fix him and now want a man that can fix you", The malewife, "The smutty wolf of Wall Street," "A man that could make a housewife out of anyone", Nanami 'i break walls with creeps and kneel for women' Kento," & Corporate Bae.

Gojo: "The unstable himbo", Everything the youngest child has ever dreamed of, The I could fix him (no one can fix him), A little freak affectionate

Geto: The "mentally ill genocidal pookie", "a DILF that fathered so hard he mothered", The middle child's dream man, & Precious baby girl who has done nothing wrong in their entire life (has literally committed terrorism and murder), "my princess with disorders."

Toji Fushiguro: "A horrible father that just happens to be unreasonably hot", Darling dirtbag, Extra wide blorbo, Precious beef cake, it would be worth the STD, hear me out the worm offers some interesting possibilities, my precious darling deadbeat, babygirl, The things I would let him do to me,

Choso: "His sunken eyes and depressed swag have captivated me", my little emo boy, "he is a beautiful angel and i want to sit on his face until he drowns in my p**** juice", pookie, big handsome kitty, baby daddy, mr. rideable nose, 150 y/o virgin.

Mahito: A "beloved princess with a disorder", "When you just want to freak who's objectively a monster"

I think everyone can tell the fandom favorites and if I see any more in the future I will add them. But I hope at least someone gets a laugh out of these and thank you to the people who put these nicknames or phrases in the comments, tags and multiple anonymous messages received.

What is the function of tags on AO3? Who are AO3 tags for?

This may seem like a bit of a silly question. They exist to organize works, of course! And, yes, that's true, but who is the primary audience meant to use tags?

There's not a single answer. Tags can be used by:

Creators to organize their works

Readers to search for works

Event/challenge organizers to run events

Bookmarkers to organize their bookmarks

The group you consider to be the main target of tags largely shapes what you consider proper tagging etiquette.

This post is partly in inspired by all the instances where I have seen people claim that not including content notes in tags is rude. And, while I understand where this sentiment comes from, it's only one way to view tags.

If you consider fanwork creators to be the intended audience for tags, then tags become a method for organizing and/or promoting one's own writing. In which case, how much or how little someone chooses to tag is up to personal preference. Some people really care about good SEO and will meticulously tag everything they can think of. Some people prefer not to spoil their creations and include little or no additional information.

If you consider readers to the group tags are made for then, tags exist to make a work easier to find or exclude. In this circumstance, more information is better because it increases a person's ability to search or and exclude works.

Personally, this is why I think I see all those posts claiming tagging less is bad. It's because people often are writing from the perspective of a reader.

If tags are meant for readers, then including less tags translates to impeding people's ability to filter. In this perspective, it is can be considered rude or bad or wrong not to tag more.

To me, tags have always been for creators. They're how a creator wants their work sorted. The emphasis is on creator agency.

I believe AO3 agrees on me with. This is because you're not required to include anything beyond a few mandatory categories. Plus even in those categories, there's still choices a creator can pick to avoid saying specific (aka 'Not Rated' and "Creator Choose Not to Warn'). This empowers creators to share as little or as much information about their creations as they want.

Gosh, where was I going with this?

I'm waving generally at the idea that tags are for creators to organize works, which in turn can help readers filter. While the second group benefits from tags, I always consider tags on a work to first be the creator's territory.

Lots of creators want to increase the find-ability of their works, and so they tag in ways that appeal to readers. There's still many, many people who would not share their work if they were required to tag extensively, heck, they would not share their work if they were asked to tag moderately. I'm of the side of enabling people to post more works in a way that is comfortable for them.

Ultimately, while the function for tags for these groups can be complementary, the fact is to some degree the wants of readers and the wants of creators are opposed. Readers want to be able to find works. Creators want the freedom to post and label their works as they want. There's no way to fully satisfy the needs of both groups.

While I understand why lots of people prefer a more tag-extensive style of posting, I greatly dislike any implication that choosing not to is rude. It's merely a different motivation for using the site.

(Now, I'm a bit curious how bookmarkers and event organizers view tags)
