I am choosing to believe that Elina doesn't have actual wings, but magical prostheses contained in her necklace. She can't use them 24/7 because the necklace has to be recharged. In direct sunlight, like a flower. Also while Elina does love flying, she prefers walking in her day-to-day affairs.

Going to make a bold statement but I think the media with the best princess tutu au potential is the 2006 direct to dvd Barbie Fairytopia: Mermaidia.

We have a kidnapped prince, a very bisexually coded enemies to besties rescue mission, a magic transformation necklace, a berry that when eaten reveals your true self, and, crucially Bibble (whose role will be filled by uzura).

okayokayokay... hear me out. Barbie Fairytopia AU where everything is the same, except the necklace the Enchantress gave Elina didn't give her wings, she instead got the power of Magic Footsteps.

#my friend and I have been watching through the barbie catalogue (in part bc I didn't grow up with these movies also bc they're a vibe)#the fairytopia movies are near and dear to me as a disabled person like that first movie hits HARD #and I do love the franchise but also just. i feel in my bones that it would be so much more powerful if she didn't get wings #like the whole lesson was that she was special with or without wings and at the end with the 'I DON'T NEED YOUR WINGS LAVERNA' like yknow #and as a disability metaphor it kinda like.... oof ouch my heart my bones my soul my credit card my IP address #so i just think it'd be cool if rather than getting wings she got essentially a mobility aid and she'd still need help to get around #bc her disability hasn't vanished but it's easier to get around (which is the purpose of an aid)#it would be a great way to normalize that stuff for kids while also giving Elina like power upgrades #and then we got to see Fairytopia become more accessible throughout the rest of the movies #idk just my thoughts asldkjf #just doodlin #sky art #sky chats #not wordgirl #described images #barbie #barbie fanart #barbie fairytopia #barbie fairytopia au

Fairytopia Lore Ask!!!

Sooo.... remember Elina's necklace at the end of Magic of the Rainbow?

But then, why does she have a completely different necklace in Rainbow Adventure (which, timeline-wise, is set after MoTR)?

And I'm like... so confused?

At no point in the movies, or the picture storybooks (afaik) do we get any indication that her necklace *changed*?

My initial thought was: "Oh wait, at the end of MoTR, the Enchantress gives them all gifts "(sorry I couldn't find the English version, but yeah - that scene)

We never see Elina's, and I thought "hmm, maybe that new necklace was her gift?"

But this whole theory came CRASHING DOWN the minute I realized ELINA STILL HAD HER OLD NECKLACE IN MARIPOSA!

I'm stumped.

So I'd like to hear your thoughts, theories and/or speculations!

I don't really have any theories regarding this. I'm pretty sure they just animated the necklace that way to match the doll/game controller. It's probably nothing more than that. I do like the idea of it being the Enchantress's gift as an in-universe reason. As to her not wearing it in Mariposa, you could just say she doesn't wear it regularly and keeps it safe in a box or something

I am having too much fun writing this fairy au (Fairytopia specifically) and I'm feeling generous so have this fun thing!

After AfO is defeated, Izuku learns that the Guardian All Might was originally a Wingless Fairy....just like Izuku, which gives Izuku hope that maybe he can be great like his Hero (even though Toshinori already thinks Izuku is great for quickly calling AfO's bluff about giving him wings in exchange for Toshinori's necklace that gives Toshinori his wings and power)
