Tag Game for Historical Simblrs! Thank you @aheathen-conceivably and @jenplayssims for tagging me!

1. What has been your favorite time period to play in or which one are you most excited for?

It feels like I've said this a million times by now, but of course my favourite time period was the 1910s. I have so many plans for future generations and can't wait to actually get to play it out so I'm kind of excited for all of the upcoming time periods. If I have to choose, I'm probably most looking forward to the 40s, 70s and 90s.

2. Do you have a favorite piece of historical cc? (CAS or BB)

I have used this jacket and cap by happylifesims multiple times on various of my sims and I can’t get enough of it. And of course I keep using every item from lilis-palace to furnish my builds. I can’t thank them enough for making such incredible historical cc!

3. Who is your favorite sim currently?

I've loved creating storylines for Frances and Harry and I love them to bits, but right now Esther has been my favourite. Maybe it's because she's a relatively new sim of mine, but I already think she has a lot of personality and I'm very excited about what I have planned for her in the future.

4. What is your favorite world?

My favourite world is Henford-on-Bagley. I used it briefly at the beginning of my story but I had already played with it so much before so I decided to move away from it.

5. Are you more gameplay or story focused?

I'm definitely more story focused, but with growing together I realized how much fun it was to just devote myself to gameplay, so in the future, I might want to combine it more.

6. Do you like to play with pets in your historical saves?

I love having pets in my game, but I don't always include them in my storytelling. Both Arthur and Jack had a dog from a young age, but I don’t think I mentioned them much. Frances also had a cat when she was young, but I sort of forgot to mention her.

7. What’s your biggest immersion breaking pet peeve with the game?

It's annoying when they use their phone, as well as when a career or skill-building requires them to use the computer.

8. What’s your favorite in-game historical item? (CAS or BB)

I don’t actually know. I use so much cc that I forget, but I guess everything that came with cottage living?

9. What would you like to see as a new pack or asset to the game?

I want vehicles! I adore the look of vintage cars and would love to have them functional in the game, as well as horses and carriages. That would be a dream.

10. What pack do you think is invaluable as a historical simmer?

Cottage living ofc! I also love seasons, since always brings so much life to the game.

11. Do you have a favorite mod to enhance historical gameplay?

The timeless mod is amazing for historical gameplay.

12. What’s your ideal family size for playing?

Preferably as small as possible. I don't like playing with overly large families, because I feel way too overwhelmed. In addition, it is difficult to pose large families in different contexts (weddings, funerals) so I have tried my best to avoid it. However, I'm feeling a bit more confident now and hopefully, there will be a bigger family in the 1930s...

13. Do you use poses?

Yes, I use poses all the time. Sometimes I sneak in some gameplay in my screenshots, but I mostly use poses.

14. Do you use any overrides in your game?

Yes! I use natural knitting, better babies, and a suitcase replacement.

15. Do you, or did you, play off-the-grid during your game?

I think played off the grid in the 1890s but I honestly can’t remember?

16. What lifespan do you play on?

I play with normal lifespan, just because I’m used to it. Recently I have paused the aging a bit because thing where going too fast and I realized I could just pause and make my life easier so I had time to enjoy the game as well as moving the story forward without stressing about it.

17. What inspired you to start playing a historically? When I read pixelnrd story I got really inspired and started playing historically, but without posting on tumblr. Then I got a new computer that could handle a bit more cc (and use reshade) and that made me decide to give it a try!

I love the Crystals’ story and have read the whole thing twice now! Do you have any tips on sticking with a BPR over time? I’ve tried a few times to get started but always stall out around the second or third generation.

Oh, I've got....a few. >3 Oh, nonny. Nonny nonny nonny. You know not the beast you have unleashed asking a writer for her process. Let us begin.

Firstly, ask yourself what sort of story do you want to tell. One of the most important questions a writer can ask themselves is: what story am I trying/do I want to tell. In the case of a BPR, this can be boiled down to do you want to follow the rules, use them as guidelines, or throw them all out the window at the start. Each of these are valid responses, but will color your experience going forward.

Second, and most crucially, once you have your direction you're going to need to outline. In the case of any long form fiction, an outline, even the most basic, will be your salvation. Sit with your story idea for a while, ask yourself how do I get from Point A to Point Z, and figure that out before you start capping. For Gen 1 this'll be things like, do you want White to end up with Pink or Purple? Both? Neither, somehow? Which child will be the Heir going into Gen 2? If you're following the ruleset, how will you work them into the story? What is your overarching story going to be? (Crystal has the Shade, for example, Star Wars had stopping the Empire, Kingdom Hearts had stopping Xehanort, etc. etc.)

But Silver, I hear you saying, that's not organic writing! No. It's not. It's called having an outline because a huge, huge problem I see with Simblrs, and writers of all manner of long form fanfic, is called pantsing. It means having no real idea of where you're going, how you're going to get there, and how to tie any of your myriad singular scene ideas together...which often leads to frustration and a lack of content, and if you have already started posting content, you will run out the clock and become more frustrated that you have nothing to post. Playing will become unfun. You will stall out. That's normal! But if we're trying to prevent that, you need to know where you're going.

To that end, you also have to know where you will end. Do this for Gen 1, 2, 3, and on. At this stage it doesn't matter if you think you can get to those other gens, just come up with something so you have waypoints, signposts, until you've got a basic A to Z plan for every gen. You now have starts and ends, and all together these make a map. It may very well change and evolve as you dig into it, but you have a map and a plan. We're getting somewhere!

Step three is, once you have your map, dig in a bit and make a much more detailed outline. For each Gen, make a scene list with the basic ideas for each scene; when/where is it taking place and what is happening within? You don't have to dialogue it all out now, though if inspiration comes PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE write it down, but this is just the scene list. Dialogue comes later!

For example, I sort my gens by Phase; Toddler, Child, Teen, YA+. Gen 6's Toddler phase starts a little something like this:

(Summer 1) 1 - Morning - Casa Crystal; prepping to visit the cousin. toddler softness and laughter.

2 - Morning - Casa Pep; arriving, meeting the cousins, dramatic argument with Pep re: nicknames and bullying over things that cannot change.

3 - Day - Casa Crystal; back home, speaking about the incident at Pep's, why can't people just be nice, toddler cuddles with a Mom

4 - Evening - Casa Crystal; SPOUSE ARRIVES in running away fashion somebody catch that toddler where is your mother child--

And so on and so forth, my actual outline is a little more detailed I'm trying to avoid spoilering anyone you get the picture I'm sure. Point is, have an outline for your gens. Sit with your scenes, sketch them out, figure what poses you have to work with to tell the story you want to tell, and write it all down! Again, this may very well change on you and take a few hard left turns--I've rewritten Gen 6 five times before I got to where I'm happy with it AND can actually get it done without pulling my hair out in the limited time I have to have the game open, so don't be afraid to to start your gen outline over if that's what's needed. There are always new documents.

Fourthly, and this is important too, do not treat Sims 4 like a game, treat it like an advanced 3D modeling program.

By that I mean, unless you're recording gameplay for video/streaming, do not try to play the game as a game. Depending on your pack situation TS4 can be a laggy, buggy mess that not even mods can really fix anymore (fucking high school years) and for us Berry Simmers in particular, all that extra CC can make the game start to chug in the day to day gameplay, causing even more frustration, so just...don't play it! Follow your outline like a director; shoot your scene and then onto the next. Like, Phase Toddler of Gen 6 takes place over Summer 1, 2, and 3. I did not have my game open for 3 simdays, I only had it open for one. Jumping from lot to lot and making HEAVY use of the Family Management system, I shot every Morning scene in the morning light, every Day scene in the daylight, and every Night scene once the sun had set in-game. I will admit that this does leave my Screenshots folder a mess of out-of-chrono-order scenes, but it's still a lot better than trying to use it as a GAME. (EA. EA fix. your. shit.)

Last of the big stuff: Don't start posting until you have a full Gen ready in your drafts and queue if you're going to be using Tumblr. Having the thing running mostly in the background, providing consistent content for X number of months, can also help with those feelings of wanting to provide content, and buy YOU time to make the next gen without feeling pressured to constantly be uploading new stuff. That is a big help.

And now a (not so) quick Lightning Round to finish us off!

Mute the game and play with music/netflix/youtube/whatever on instead; nothing grates faster than simlish repeated ad nauseum and the less you hear the better.

Don't be afraid to take inspo from other properties. Cadence and Forest were heavily based on Cortana and the Master Chief from Halo (yes, that Halo) and the Guardian Council is heavily based off of characters from The Legend of Spyro. Ori himself and everything he stands for only came about because I refused to let Ori-the-character go after beating his games. Basically don't be afraid to have your favorites live a new life in your stories and fill out the cast.

Never underestimate the power of music. If you're having trouble with scenes, a montage set to fitting tunes can help timeskip through the trouble spots.

On that note: Timeskips. Don't be afraid to use them! Phase Tod of CG6 is only 12 scenes before we skip to Phase Child, and Phase Infant/Toddler of CG7 is being skipped entirely. Do not be afraid to do the same/similar if sections are giving you trouble or you just want to get to a certain spot. It's your story, do what feels right to you!

Don't be afraid of the rewrite! If things aren't working, or if an idea you once loved has become not loved, or if it's too frustrating in practice and you're not enjoying it, rewrite it! The entire point of storytelling should be to enjoy it, so if something doesn't spark joy? Toss it with prejudice.

I say this respectfully, and with the kindest of intentions, STAY THE FUCK OUT OF SOCIAL MEDIA DRAMA. Ignore places like simsecret, don't get into he said/she said arguments, and don't start airing dirty laundry unless you want to risk someone hitting you with it. Knuckle down, brain on the outline, and tell your story!

and now finally Lastly, all of this is just advice. At the end of the day, your stories are yours to tell. How you tell them, what you do to tell them, that's all up to you. Do what feels right; tag for the hard and dark shit, yes, and warn where appropriate, but tell the stories you want to tell and never let anyone, not me or any other simblr or anyone, tell you you can't make a story a certain way. Life is too short to let others dictate your creativity, Nonny. Keep the dreams alive however you can.

𝘼 𝙢𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙙

Greetings, fellow simmers! How are things going in the royalty simblr world? Hope you’re all enjoying your amazing stories.

I know that a lot of time have passed since the publication of my last post (one/two years, strictly speaking). However, several things happened during these two years which led me to a definitive stop of the project that I was carrying with desire and passion. I tried every day to tell myself “Why give up? You like playing The Sims 4 and writing stories about your Royal Family!” But coming here back and re-reading the evolutions of your stories made me remember all the love and commitment that I put in to publish posts and do many collaborations with you.

The bad news is... I lost my TS4 folder. Really. I lost my TS4 folder along with saves, mods, trays, ecc... ecc... So, with great pain I am forced to lower the curtain on the Hawkthorne’s dinasty and theirs (endless) children.

BUUUT! This little “mourning” didn’t stopped me in recreating a brand new royal dynasty, with better stories and more good-looking characters (I mean... My former king and queen weren’ t so ugly. But looking at my new sims I was just like “Did I really made THAT Sims?”. But as we say in Italy "every cockroach is beautiful for its mother”, so regardless of what they look like, I will love them as they are).

In these days, you might expect a total restyle of my blog, starting from the main name and following new posts and graphics. I won’t delete my former royal family story, the old posts will be collected so you can recover my old posts. I don't know which people are left here in the royal simblr community. To the people with whom I’ve shared a beautiful journey I want to say: I missed you terribly. I really hope, with my whole heart, to old and new Royal Sims Families, I can’t wait to partnering with you again and weaving new stories between our characters and mostly important get in touch again and make friends again!

I ask you to bring a little more patience. I'm fixing the last things and then I can start again with determination! I look foward to hearing from you again!

A while ago I received an interesting question about game aesthetics. The person in that ask really struggles with downloading stuff and finding their own style. They asked me how I came up with what you see on my screenshots. Have you ever thought that you can recognize whose screenshot this is by just a quick glance? Is editing important in photoshop? How to take beautiful screenshots? Today let’s talk about how different one single game could be for each of us and what really makes this mysterious “sims aesthetics”.

EDIT: Sorry, it turned out to be huge with lots of random thoughts :D I hope at least one percent of these is useful!

NOTE: English is not my native language, I apologize for possible grammar or spelling mistakes. I tried my best in writing this!

Ok, let’s imagine that you’re a person who just obtained the sims game or just want a nice fresh start and demolished your download folder. (We all need fresh starts sometimes, right?) The struggle is that you have no idea which style you like the best. There are so many sims blogs. Everyone seems to enjoy what they post but you’re a little bit lost in that jungle. Don’t worry! I’ll try to guide you and share my thoughts.

STEP 1 Choose your general style

I roughly divide all sims blogs that I see on my dashboard into a couple of so-called styles. I’ve been doing it in my mind for ages. I like following different people and seeing diferent editing. None of them are better than others. I hope you understand that it’s just a matter of liking. Ok, here we go. Let me put this sorting hat on you :D

1. Realistic

Perhaps, it’s the most important thing that you should decide for yourself. Wether you should use realistic textures in your game or you’d prefer to stick to more cartoonish maxis match ones. Why is it so important, to my mind? I like things that match. Just imagine game Witcher 3 where characters and surroundings are realistic. And now imagine Minecraft where things are pixelated. Both games are great, both games have certain beautiful styles. And now imagine Geralt hunting for monsters in a pixelated Minecraft swamp. A bit strange, isn’t it? :D The same applies to Sims. If you put a super realistic skintone on your sim and put a Maxis ponytail, that would probably look strange too. If you choose this style, just try to dig for a good quality content, start following simblrs in this style. Unfortunately, I’m not an expert when it comes to realistic content. So, try to drop an ask to someone whose realistic game you like. There are so many helpful people around in the sims community no matter what style they have :)

2. Trully Maxis Match

This is a complete opposite of a realistic style. I’ve always called people who use a lot of original maxis textures “trully maxis” :D If you can decorate a house without any custom content, if you like the way original hairstyles look, if you like Maxis clothes, you should go this way. From what I’ve spot after being so many years in the sims community, “trully” maxis simblr are so creative when it comes to storytelling. The stories that they write about either their sims/or maxis premades are so breathtaking. So much drama, so much fun. The only thing that I write about my screenshots is “Ok, this is my cat! Look, it can eat flowers and puke afterwardst! Yay! Cute”. If you choose this way, I can recommend you to check out @holleyberry, @didilysims or @moocha-muses. Obviously there are a lot more blogs that I follow. These people are just so sweet and helpful and they’re first who came to my mind.

3. Bright Maxis Matchery

This is where I refer myself to. This style is still Maxis but what stands out is the use of bright colours and saturated photoshopped pictures. Ah, my love for overedited pictures is endless <3 This is what I’m going to talk a lot below since it’s my cup of tea. It’s all about colours and pallete addiction. If you love looking at super bright/silly/cheery screenshots and they boost up your mood, than join the squad!

Basically, Maxis match (I’ll just shorten for MM from now on) players avoid super shiny skins or hair textures and prefer to have content with Simlish letters instead of English ones. This is a very important factor for me when I choose paintings or prints for T-shirts. I don’t know, I feel like it’s so cute that sims can’t understand our languages, talk this funny gibberish simlish language. It’s cute! There are so so many people that I can recommend. @lina-cherie @keoni-chan @kahlenas They are first who came to my mind <3

4. Grungy/cosmic

I don’t know if these are suitable words :D But this is how I describe people’s game who like aliens/supernatural sims/grungy textures with or without bright colours as well. Just think would you prefer a bit of a grungy stuff or less-textured but cleaner MM? You always need to think about textures while you download stuff. I can recommend to check out @pooklet or @furbyq-sims

5. Semi

You might ask me “Why am I not allowed to put a realistic skintone on a maxis sim? What the hell?” Of course, you are! Do it please, if you want. There are no rules, no restrictions. You CAN go semi-realistic, you CAN mix patterns, you CAN mix colours. There’s only one rule: please, enjoy what you do. Don’t be afraid to share your pictures on the Internet. There will always be people who can judje your style and say: “meh, it’s too dull, meh, it’s too bright, meh, too shiny, meh, too plain meh, meh, meh”. Just don’t pay attention and enjoy your game. As for semi-realistic I can recommend such wonderful people as @marvelann @lilith-sims @falkii @knowledgeaspiration

A bit about my style: I’ve always loved cartoonish/bright style. I’ve never ever played with shiny textures. Before Tumblr era I just played either without CC or with a bunch of maxis recolours. How I came up with the idea of cartoonishness? Pretty simple. It’s a part of my personality, I think :) I’ve always loved Disney/Pixar movies. Cartoons just make life a lot funnier! They make me happy. I’m a pre-school teacher after all :D. You can’t imagine how many cartoons I’ve watched throughout my life. I can quote Peppa Pig and will never be tired of that :D Before Tumblr I just played some funny legacies (I’ve never finished any though :D) When I found out about Tumblr, and such great content that can make my game even more Disney looking, it just blew my mind! Every time when I download stuff, I imagine that I’m watching a Disney/Pixar or whatever studio cartoon. When I create sims, I feel like I’m a cartoon designer. Pretty silly, right? :D

Let’s take a look at my screenshots from the past. I tried to find similar ones with a lot of greenery.

As I’m a big cartoon addict, I love recreating game/anime/cartoon characters. No matter, if they’re my favourite or requested ones. I love when my sims have different traits. I love when they’re funny looking/clumsy/absent-minded or when they’re evil/supernatural. When they are pirates/detectives/vampires or witches. This is my way of playing Sims. I love this game as it gives us possibilities to show your creativity, a chance to recreate our favourite characters. A chance to be a writer of storylines or if you’re bad at telling stories, just being “a cartoon designer” like me :)

STEP 2 Colour palettes

If you’ve chosen the path of “bright maxis matchery” than colour palettes are super important! Oh, you can’t imagine how addicted I am to certain colours. I can download GBs because of it.

Here are some of my favourite colour palettes:

1. Anna’s colours

My absolutely favourite palette. I would download absolutely anything in these pretty colours. Just looking at them makes me so cozy *0* There’s a photoshop action for those who want to recolour CC in this palette.

2. Poppet’s colours

I especially like the latest one. So pretty! @poppet-sims is the queen of lovely recolours. She has some more palettes. But “Back to Basics is my favourite”

3. Eversims colours

@eversims has got a lot of pretty colour palettes. But the most iconic one is Ever So Lovely

So, these are the basic colours that I like downloading furniture/clothes with.

There are a couple more pretty palettes that I like:

Huning’s Pony Colours

Back in the days it was my ultimate favourite one. But these days I edit my pictures in Photoshop excessively and prefer calmer colours and add bright layers in photoshop instead.

Nyren’s Kosmic Colours

If you’re more into pastels, than try to download some stuff in this pretty palette.

You might wonder if I use all of these colours. Of course not! I have a selection of colours that I use: apple green, sky blue, yellow, red, pink, orange, purple, teal, mint. I absolutely love combining 2 or 3 of these in my interior shots. I also love choosing my sims’ favourite colours and dressing them/decorating their bedroom in this certain colour(s).

For example, my sim Mia likes apple green/purple and mint.

I think @deedee-sims can relate. While I prefer choosing a favourite colour per sim, she chooses favourite colour for the whole family!

This is a great idea, I think! :)

STEP 4 Bodyshop stuff

Ok, I hope it’s clear that I’m colour palettes addicted, now let’s move onto actual custom content and what I prefer adding to my game. I decided to divide CC by sections. Let’s start with Bodyshop.

4.1 Skintones

Another important thing that you need to choose for yourself. There are tones ofoptions. I’m going to recommend only MM skins as obviously I have no idea which realistic or semi-realistic ones are high quality.

If you prefer trully maxis skintones, I recommend you to try Leh’s skintones. It’s super close to original ones in terms of shades. Also look at those button noses! These cute noses is the reason why I started using this skin back in 2014. But later I switched to Lilith’s feather as I wanted more variety and those noses there got a lovely shine.

It was my default skin for a lot of years. These days I own every possible skintone by Lilith and various blends by other people.

Here’s a very handy set-up by Vimpse with Lilith’s skins being townified.

Try to choose one set of skins or download all of them by one certain creator. I need a lot of skins because I love creating tones of sims and I want to make them various looking.

4.2 Eyes

These are just some of my eyes. There are some more by Poppet, by Kahlena. And I have various addons to these sets that I grabbed over and here. I remember having struggles of choosing only one set. But than I thought: why do I have to choose if I like all of them and want my sims to look as different as possible? I just love when they are cartoonish but high-quality with nice white clean sclera. Just look at Disney Rapunzel. You’ll see what I mean ^_^

There’s one little trick that most mm players do for making sims’ eyes bigger and rounder - adding a whiteline eyeliner by jesstheex. I personaly do it for every single sim of mine.

4.3 Makeup

I use tooooons of blushes, lipsticks and eyeshadows. I have everything by Lilith and Jesstheex. And lots of bits and bobs by various creators. I love using both matte or shiny textures. I sometimes add nose shine or use special nosemasks. There are various lovely things in my collection. What I can recommend you is to download a sim that you like by another creator with the help of Sims Clean Installer and just steal makeup from the sim to add to your collection *evil laughter* I recommend to do it because sometimes there are some mouth corners or various eyebags and etc which are difficult to find. It’s easier to grab them together with sims.

For example, I grabbed the shiny nosemasks from one of Lilith’s sims.

Sometimes I like adding a bit of shine on Sims’ noses. Some sims of mine don’t have shine. It really depends on a sim. But what I definitely like is cute button noses! I like using nosemasks to achieve that. I have all the masks by Lilith and these ones by kahlena.

4.4 Hair textures

Another important decision for you is the hair textures. I recommend you to choose one certain retexture. Back in the days, I used to have Remi’s textures

I liked Remi’s ones because they were non-shiny. They had maxis colours and a really cool yellowish blonde!

Receintly I switched to Simgarooped as I’ve always loved that there are 6 naturals. The yellowish blonde is still there! Plus my favourite Deedee-sims keeps updating every week with the retextures of new meshes <3

There are lots of various textures blends. Just search, download, play test. Think, if you’re ready to look at such type of hair hours of simming.

Also try to decide if you’d like to have more natural looking sims or go crazy and have supernatural/aliens. I used to have really bright sims with colourful skins and hairs.

Even my toddlers had unnatural hairs. It’s a lot of fun! But right now I prefer to create more natural looking sims though I like vampires/witches/aliens anyways!

You’ll need a lot of face masks/bright lips/shadows. Check out @berrynooboos for the cutest alien CC.

4.5 Facial hair and Brows

I don’t think they should really match as long as they look great.

For example, I use eyebrows by @suratan-zir which are super cute and high quality but use Poppet’s textures instead of Simgarooped.

As for facial hair, I use some Poppet’s as well.

4.6 Clothes

As I already mentioned, I love clothes in my favourite palettes. I love Simlish prints. There are so so many creators who share wonderful clothes.

I love @deedee-sims for age conversions, shoeswaps, morphs. I love @mdpthatsme for really cool 4t2 conversions. I love @moocha-muses for colourful T-shirts <3 Don’t be shy to send me a WCIF about a certain item of clothing.

STEP 5 Buy and Build

Tooons of bright recolours, IKEA items, Maxis add-ons, 3t2 and 4t2 conversions - all these things make my heart beat :D

These days I play in a rural-type world. I download a lot of craftsman-style build things, a lot of plants and garden deco.

I love bright wallpapers and greenhouses, I love clutter and kids CC for nurseries. Patterns with polka dots and plumbobs. Sunflowers and tulips. This is what I usually drop into my download folder :)

STEP 6 Taking screenshots

No matter which recolours and textures you prefer, I think high-quality pictures are important. The first thing that you need to playtest for yourself is a camera mod. It’s upo for you, but I can’t live without Gunmod’s Camera Mod. There are some more available, just check out.

Also lighting is important since Maxis original is terrible. I use Dreadpirate’s mod.

I recommend to take screenshots in a camera man mode. Click Tab to enter it. Use W, A,S,D,E buttons to move right/left/up/down etc. And what’s important, use X and Z for zooming in and out. I always use Z for example, when I take close ups of my cats.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with angles. Try some artistic ones.

You can move your camera down and take a screen from below.

Or vice versa from above.

Sometimes I’ll just take a screen of my sims’ hands or feet. It really depends. I love spending hours on just “walking” in a camera mod around my sims houses.

Another useful feature of this mod is to use Ctrl +4,5,6,7,8,9 buttons.

These can fix the angles for you. And after fixing them, when you click on 4,5,6,7,8,9 you camera will go back to those positions. It’s very handy when you want to screen 2 sims who are talking and there’s no need to constatntly move camera from sidde to side. Just fix it and wait for them to perform cute emotions!

As a bonus, you can fic positions in the life mode too. For example, I always choose a proper angle from above where the wgole house can be seen. And wait for something cute/funny/to happen.

Also there’s such a thing as The Rule of Thirds. It’s the rule of photography composition. I always try to follow it :)

STEP 7 Photoshop Editing

I love oversaturated colours. It can be too much for someone’s eyes, but I like the brightness :) I’ll share some good Photoshop resources. Probably, one thing that I can recommend to absolutely everyone no matter how bright you want your screens to be is sharpening! Seems that Tumblr eats our picture quality for breakfast. Sims screenshots seem so blurry to me. I love sharpening them first.

I use sharpening from Kalekaloo’s action.

After sharpening I run the base from Eversims Action and then add some colour layers from Simburgerr’s one (I like gradients and fluffy lights layers especially). It makes the reds colours a little bit too saturated but I think it’s cute!

It was part of a dumb silly little story I made for TSR back when Dragon Valley first came out, about how the gods blessed Sakura with a baby dragon. I reuploaded it on my simblr for the lulz. Don’t take it seriously, trust me, LOL.

I’d like to let my followers know a little bit about the type of Simblr I am.

First and foremost, hello! My name is Savannah and I’ve been a member of this community for almost 10 years. I’m a wife and mother. I’m addicted to The Sims CC, music, books and history. I’m goofy and random and I swear A LOT. I hope you enjoy my content. Remember to please be respectful as I won’t hesitate to block anyone trying to start drama. I’m too old for that shit.

This post will be long and I’m sorry in advance.

I came to Simblr almost 10yrs ago looking for CC and fell in love with this community. I planted my own roots here and I’ve connected with some absolutely awesome and nicest individuals all over the planet. I ended up burning myself out of The Sims for awhile (and my son spilled soda in my gaming PC and it just died). I didn’t mean to stay gone as long as I did but life just got in the way of free time. In my absence, many of my favorite simmers have deleted or has gone MIA and I really miss them all. I’ve got so many great memories here. Simblr today is definitely not the same as it once was.

I have ALWAYS encouraged others to be their most creative self whether that be editing in photoshop, digital painting to creating Sims CC. It’s not very mature to call other people’s work “ugly” or discourage their creativity as they probably worked hard on it.

I’ve ALWAYS responded to every message and ask (except for rude/drama ones) and have done my best to keep up with post replies and tracked CC down for WCIF’s. If you have a question, don’t hesitate to ask!

Any CC I’ve created and shared has always been FREE and always been credited. I always tried to release some sort of CC as a way of saying “thank you for following me.” I will never guilt or beg anyone to download or use my CC.

I will NEVER ask you to send me money, donate or charge for any CC I may put out.

I’ve never once been rude to someone who wasn’t rude to me from the start. If you can’t show me respect, you don’t deserve mine.

I have NEVER and WILL NEVER participate in the drama plaguing this community (you can go through my posts to verify). I might post about where I stand in a certain situation but I’ll never actively engage in the back and forth bullshit. All I want to do is play The Sims, download and share awesome CC, meet nice simmers and see how different others play compared to how I play. If wanting to keep my Simblr simple and an enjoyable space for everyone without all of the drama offends you, then it’s totally okay to unfollow me or not follow me at all as you absolutely have that choice. Humans still have the right to have their own opinions without being publicly humiliated. Anyway, sorry for the long post but as I said, I was gone for a long time and just wanted to let the newbies know a little about me and my Simblr. i'm sorry you're feeling this way :( i’m not sure if you were looking for advice, so instead i’ll just kinda share my experience?

i know this will probably sound hollow, but i truly mean it when i say that you need to write for yourself first and foremost. i have tons of wips that i’ve never posted on any platform, i just keep writing them because they bring me joy and it’s something i need to get out of me, even if no one sees it. i totally understand how demotivating it feels when it seems like no one is reading, but if you have a story inside you, it deserves to be told no matter how many people are there to listen. and let me be clear: i’m not saying that notes don’t matter!! i also feel insecure when my posts have a sudden drop in notes, or when i post a story post that no one has anything to say about, or, like i talked about awhile ago, when i lose a batch of followers after i post a story post (every. single. time.) ... so believe me, i will never say that notes don’t matter. but they can’t be your main motivation, or you’ll be miserable and your story will never be told. MOST of the likes on my posts are from people who saw it on their dash and will never read a word of the dialogue that i write. a majority of my follower count is full of dead blogs and spam bots. i’m extremely extremely lucky to have the readers that i do, and i am not in any way trying to devalue you guys, but numbers can be deceiving too. i have a much better time on simblr when i don’t look at my notes at all. it allows me to post what i want, when i want, and if other people happen to enjoy it too, that’s great! i think of my readers like... beautiful barnacles on me, the whale FKJDS like i’m just cruising along, doing my own thing, and sometimes a sweet passenger will hitch a ride and we’ll travel together :’) does this make any sense lmaoo

not to be dramatic but i have come to a conclusion about the sparks so im going 2 rant about it below

if the 40 posts that have been sitting in my drafts for the past 2 years are any indicator of how things are going with the sparks, i think it’s safe to say that they aren’t getting posted. there were a few personal things going on a few years ago that ultimately resulted in me feeling disconnected from my characters and creating and now we’re here.

hoWEVER, the last few months i have been in a better mindset about the sparks, a much better mindset then just avoiding them all together. and i think a big part of that is seeing old creators come back to simblr and being more active to see all of the new creators that have started since i’ve joined. but realistically, my ass is not going to get over the writers block i’ve had on this part of sylvie’s story, and i’ve tried time and time again to think of any other way it could've been done but at this point i don’t want to do it. i can keep telling myself i will, but they’ll just be sitting on a shelf for another year before i come back to do a christmas edit or something.

so we’re time jumping, a big time jump with lots of missed plot points & relationships that have come & gone. and that’s ok, because that’s what i need to do, because i want to create & share more about my characters beyond a sims edit every few months when i change their skin overlays. and when i do the time jump, it may just be gameplay & light hearted fun, and thats ok too. because that’s were we started, and that’s when posting content was fun.

in any case, i hope that made sense. i do think i will be doing some sort of a summary/edits to get a general idea of things that happened before jumping straight into the future, but aside from that i am pretty happy about this decision, i know it’s simblr & it’s not that serious & writing a novel about all of this really is dramatic but i just needed to get it out there. anYWAYS, if you have made it to this point i appreciate you & i hope you have a good day.

Why did you choose your url? Coriel is the main character in Summers at Castle Auburn by Sharon Shinn. Muroz was a name randomly assigned in some online RPG I played once. Coriel Muroz has always been my online name.

How long have you been on tumblr? 2 years? 2.5? Something like that. I finally realized it would be the best way to stay one top of all the new Simblr content

Do you have a queue tag? No. I post Huntsville Revived 2x a day and otherwise I reblog/post on a whim.

Why did you start your blog in the first place? I wanted to stay on top of all the awesome Sims content I had seen via Pinterest. I also wanted to try my hand at writing a Simblr.

Why did you choose your icon/pfp? She’s a very quickly made self-sim.

Why did you choose your header? It’s a banner with some of my Pleasantview Sims. I should update it to be Huntsville Revived, but haven’t done so yet.

What’s your post with the most notes? Pretty sure it was the post where I asked for advice about custom foods. I was thinking of adding more to my hood, and got a lot of great ideas. Unfortunately, I tried one and my game did not play nicely with it, so I still don’t use custom foods.

How many mutuals do you have? / How many followers do you have? A good number I think. I love being part of the Sims 2 Tumblr community. There are lots of great posts out there.

How many people do you follow? 600 or so? I am pretty quick to follow other Simblrs, primarily Sims 2. There are maybe a dozen or two though who I make sure to not miss a post of. I’ve been a bit not on top of it lately (sorry friends), but I will be back on top of it soon.

Have you ever made a shitpost? Not really my style, although I do find them funny occasionally.

It’s not that I don’t want to, but I don’t always have the time to focus on my main posts, so adding extras, especially one’s that take more effort...but please always tag me. It makes me feel awesome.

Do you like ask games? For sure :) They can help reveal pieces about a Sim’s background that will inform the story that I right.

Which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous? They all are? At least, they all should be.

Do you have a crush on a mutual? I have a non-romantic crush on all my mutuals. I think they are absolutely awesome and am excited every time I see them like my posts or make a comment, and I also always strive to make comments that are cool and make them feel good.

New-ish Simblr and Story Announcement ✨

Hello everyone,

I made this account a little over a year ago because initially I wanted to just keep track of the CC I use in my game by reblogging everything I found (I guess probably how a lot of simblrs start out at first 😄). Aside from figuring out how Tumblr works in general because I’ve never had a Tumblr account before, I also followed the Simblr community from the sideline and not really interacting because I didn’t really know what to say or what to do and on top of that I am quite introverted as well (I also felt heavily discouraged to post because of all the amazing content I see on my dash every day). This is probably why I’ve never properly introduced myself but after gathering some courage I think today is finally the right time to do so. I love the Sims challenges, stories, friendships, interactions, creations and other sims related content and posts I see on my dashboard and I would really like to be a part of it and hopefully make some friends as well.

Regarding original content so far, I’ve only tried to make a couple of lookbooks and posted an outline for a legacy challenge but I will give you a little backstory of what I will be posting on my blog from now on forward. One day I was playing around in CAS creating some sims and while I was doing this the backstory for these sims developed in my head. Making up these backstories is something I often do and I guess a lot of you do this as well when creating sims. However, what was different this time was that instead of the backstory staying with the sims in CAS when I closed my game, it would not leave my head. For the past couple of months this story kept evolving and more characters and even sidestories developed to the point I started to write some of these things down. It was at that moment that I knew I wanted to share this story here on my blog and start posting about it. Honestly, I’ve not been this excited about something I want to do in a long time and I wanted to let you know that if you like sims stories or sims content in general that I will start posting this story soon and you can follow along if you like. Also, feel free to like or share for others who are looking for a new story to read 😊.

3. what’s your favorite world?

My Favorite World is a custom world: Al Medina. My sims have taken a couple of vacations there, and it feels new every time thanks to all the wonderful lots being created by simmers!

12. what’s your favorite sized household to play with? (ex. 1 sim, 4 sims)

Three! I have seven saves, mostly couples with their friend, or a child. I also mostly play with aging off (except with my legacy that is on a normal life span.) I feel it's a lot easier to handle three sims and get to know them instead of being overwhelmed by too many, while simultaneously not getting bored because you're not playing just one or two sims all the time!

21. who is your favorite sim of yours and what is their story?

Kipo Oats!

I've had her for quite a bit now. She's named after a character in one of my favorite animated shows. I initially used her to test Boroughsburg. She lived in a tiny apartment, worked at a restaurant part-time, went to university, and wrote on the side. Eventually joined a band, got married to her long-term sweetheart, and traveled the world. Now she's a singer (and will probably change careers again when she moves. She does that a lot!)

I've had many firsts with her (Joining simblr, using the traveler mod, doing sim careers I hadn't tried before: EG the band, and showtime singer career), and probably see playing with her for as long as possible.

1. how big is your mods folder?

I’m a little ashamed to say that my mods folder is currently 49.4 gb...and it’s a disorganized mess tbh. Nothing is organized at all.

2. how would you describe your style?

Hmmmm. I feel like my sim style is very ... apparent. I’m sure I have same face syndrome.

3. what is your favorite challenge?

I like legacy challenges heheh

4. do you make cc? if so, what kind?

No. I wish. I’ve tried making poses a few times before, but I end up getting really frustrated and confused. It’s a shame because there are things I want for my story, but there aren’t any of the right poses for it. I just get so confused with the little dots and also frustrated.

5. what type of cc do you hoard?

Poses and hairs. And also fantasy nonsense hahahahah

6. what default eyes and skin do you use?

I use eyes in the facepaint category and I usually use the eyes by @remussirion. All of their eyes are so stunning, honestly. I’ve tried other eyes, but I always go back to theirs.

I don’t use default skins or anything. I used to have custom skintones, but that broke with whatever patch that was. Honestly, so many things are broken in my game rn lolol. I usually just use alpha skins/overlays and stack them up on each other.

7. how many urls have you had, and what are the meanings behind them?

This has been my only simblr URL. When I first joined, I’d been lurking the tags for a while and wanted something that could seamlessly blend into “sims.” I was actually surprised when galaxsims wasn’t already taken! Though I don’t think I’ve ever played with alien sims before lolol.

My main blog that I follow and like from, @grxnadxs, is just because I was listening to the song Grenade by Bruno Mars while I was making it lmao

11. how do you edit your photos?

...I don’t do much, really. I’m not great at editing and I get impatient. But I usually do the thing with reshade where I take 2 screenshots of the same thing and edit them together to get rid of the inevitable alpha hair stuff. I’ll add magical effects to some posts for Whisper of Worlds and stuff like that. But it’s mostly just reshade that does the work.

Ah man. When I don’t feel like doing sims stuff, I’ll switch over to working on my novels. I have a ton of WIPs going on at once, so I’ll do that. Or I’ll fall into a youtube rabbit hole of some sort. Usually it’s the latter and I get nothing done at all lmao.

Hi again :) I was wondering if you have any tips on editing? I’ve been reading your story since the beginning and you have improved greatly!! I just started using photoshop, so still figuring everything out.

Hello-hello :) First of all, thank you for reading my legacy, I feel really grateful, honestly :3 Now to the business.

I’m not sure how useful of tips I can give to someone who’s just starting with PS, cause there’s a lot to look into about it.

• If I were new to PS I’d start with understanding adjustments layers and their effects, cause these guys will be the main thing in every editing. There are a lot of tutorials out there, especialy videos on youtube, which explain it so much more efficiently than I could possibly do in a tumblr post. If you’re not feeling like getting too deep into this whole topic, look for different .psd and photoshop actions for editing, tthere are a lot out there, they’re also good as a base to understanding the whole thing.

• Then I’d look into Topaz Clean plug-in, this one helps to clean and sharpen your images, I wrote about it and how I use it >here

• Then, it doesn’t really have anything to do with PS, but pay attention to in-game lighting. And I don’t only mean all kinds of No-Blu lighting mods, but actually all the lamps in your sims’ house. I realized the whole power of this instrument not so long ago, and it affects the quality of my screenshots so much, it’s ridiculous. Here’s a link to a very helpful tutorial, which explains this topic in detail. Basically, the better your source screen is, the easier it will be to edit it, so I wouldn’t ignore this step :3

• Avoid too bleached lights as well as too dark/black shadows, unless you’re going for the effect. Both of these will make later editing hurt..

• Mind your sharpening tools - sharpness is good, it gives your image polished look, but over-sharpening will kill your every effort.

• Look into overlay textures (google it x) there are light effects, dust effects, noise effects, scratches, shadows, blooms, camera bleaches, vignettes, color gradients - find what you like and go for it, they will no only give your images depth, but may also help you find your own style.

•This will be my last tip, but not least. Go for your own thing, ask this same ask to different simblrs who’s editing you like, see what different answers you’ll get, try all the different stuff and make your own mixture out of it, so people would come to you asking for your unique tips :)

This was it for boring general tips x) If you were referring more to what I personally do for my images, then my routine after taking a screenshot is:

• I crop my image to what I need it to look like;

• I run Topaz Clean actions from the post I linked you to;

• Resize to 1200 px wide for my story posts, and to whatever else for the rest of them;

• Run my own sharpen action which is for the High Pass filter of PS;

• At this point I do the basic editing: I fix the contrast/brightness balance, tune the colors to my liking. (I prefer cooler shades of skin for example, and love when my pictures have a little bit of periwinkle/pinkish tint). I mostly use Curves, Levels, Color Balance, Selective Color, Photofilter adjustment levels here, it really depends of the quality of the source image here.

• Next step is my curse, cause I draw shadows, highlights, hair strands on my images. I tried it once, got addicted and I wish I could not be doing it, but alas. I do it by hand on my tablet, it’s time consuming, I wouldn’t recommend 😝

• Final part are overlays I mentioned above, sometimes I make light rays, sometimes I draw dust particles, sometimes I do noise; it all depends.
