CHAPTER THREE: MARLBORO REDS
NSWF, 18 +, MINORS DNI
Part One | Part Two in case you need to catch up 💕
Chapter Three is SFW content (though later there WILL be NSFW content, therefore, the 18+ label).
A/N: Here is PART THREE! We're actually ramping up to the story now, starting to build that sweet, sweet tension. Thank you to those of you who have been reading these so far and giving me feedback. I really appreciate your time, and I'm so excited to keep writing! As usual, check the tags for hints on what's to come, and I LOVE U SO INCREDIBLY MUCH, THANK U FOR BEING HERE.
The cash register drawer groaned as you shoved it into place and locked it. You turned around and walked the row of large windows, methodically pulling on the long strings to close each set of blinds as you made your way to the front of the shop. The last pull silenced the buzzing of the OPEN sign, and you gave the door a hard jostle to make sure it was locked up tight.
“Shit.” Glancing at the wall clock, you realized if you didn’t quicken your pace, you were going to be late for soundcheck at The Hideout. “Not three times in one day. Fuck, fuck, fuck,” you muttered to yourself, heels clacking rapidly on the vinyl flooring as you hurried to the break room to gather your things and jet out the back door. Plunging a hand into your bag, you felt around in the dark for your pack of Marlboros. “I swear they were in here. What the –” Conceding to the reality that you’d just have to pick up another pack, you began a half run through the alley to get to the corner store. It was close enough to The Hideout, and you reasoned that if you grabbed a bag of peanut M&Ms as an offering of apology to Eddie for your tardiness, he would likely let you off the hook for missing another sound check.
Rounding the corner out of the alley, it was a straight shot across the street and through the parking lot to the corner store. You were still half running and almost out of breath when you wrenched the door open and made a B-line for the peanut M&Ms. You were so determined to complete your mission that you didn’t even notice the blue Camaro you strode right past on your way in. You snagged the bag of M&Ms and a packet of Pop Rocks to sweeten the deal just in case and took your place in the long line to the register. You knew you were late, but you couldn’t figure out how late because there didn’t seem to be a clock anywhere in sight.
“Excuse me,” you said tapping the denim clad shoulder of the person in front of you. “Do you happen to have the time?”
“Sure,” the man sighed, checking his wristwatch. “It’s 8:57,” he relayed without turning around.
“Thank you,” you replied glumly, knowing that sound check was almost over, and Eddie would be infinitely more annoyed that you wouldn’t be there to play the first song. Jeff could sing some of the set list, so they might have to rearrange, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world. You rummaged through your bag once more, trying to make sure you at least had a lighter or some matches so you wouldn’t have to make another desperate trip back here later. Your fingertips found the cool metal of your lighter at the bottom of your bag, and as you brought it to the surface, it slipped right out of your hand, clattering to the floor. The man with the watch bent down and retrieved your lighter from its landing spot, and you instantly recognized him. Billy Fucking Hargrove.
“You should keep a tighter hold on this. It’s a nice one,” he said with a half smile, holding your Kreisler lighter out for you to take back.
“Yeah. Butter fingers,” you replied with a nervous laugh. “Thanks.”
“Don’t mention it.” For the first time you could recall, Billy was unusually quiet. You couldn’t feel the heat of arrogance radiating off of him like usual, and he wasn’t jutting his chin up in an attempt to signal masculine dominance. Something was off. You also noticed his eyes were bloodshot, and his lips were slightly puffy. Had he been crying?
“So, uh,” you stammered awkwardly. “Come here often?” You offered the stupid question while avoiding eye contact, and Billy’s thousand-yard stare of surprise was uncontestable. He paused trying to correct his facial expression and let out a small chuckle.
“I guess so. Only as often as I have to.” He shuffled his feet where he stood and looked around the room, desperately searching his mind for conversation prompts. You could see the lightbulb go off in his head in real time. “You work at that record store downtown, right? Trax?”
“Yeah, I do,” you answered, a genuine smile forming on your lips. Billy Hargrove had remembered something about you, and you weren’t sure why that made you feel a bit warm inside.
“It’s a cool place. I’ve seen you in there before stocking shelves and pushing that big cart around. Seems like quite the workout,” he joked. His discomfort was slowly melting away, but you could still sense that he wasn’t at home in himself.
“Yeah, that’s me,” you confirmed. “The best part is the thirty percent discount though. Thirty percent on new selections and fifty on any overstock.”
“That’s very generous.” Billy was smiling now, too. “I’m still looking for a copy of the new Ratt album. Everywhere’s been sold out for months”
“Oh, Invasion of Your Privacy?”
“That’s the one.”
“Yeah, that one flies off the shelves every time we get more in. We just got a new shipment today though. I can set one aside for you…you know, if you want,” you offered somewhat hesitantly. You couldn’t let yourself forget this was Billy you were talking to, and his reputation still preceded him.
“That’s quite the offer,” he said, looking down to his feet, that smile still dancing at the corners of his mouth. “I can come pick it up tomorrow if you’ll be there.” His eyes snapped back up to yours, and you felt butterflies rise in your stomach.
“I’ll be there. Just go to the register, and tell whoever’s working the counter your name and that you have a layaway. I’ll make sure to get it ready for you first thing in the morning.” Billy nodded slowly, taking in your instructions.
“Thanks. It’s really cool of you to do that. I’ll definitely owe you one.”
“Anytime.” You smiled at him again, and you made a mental note to obey your first alarm tomorrow morning so you had time to follow through with your promise.
It was Billy’s turn in line, and you eavesdropped as he asked the cashier for a pack of Marlboro Reds. You couldn’t help but note that as a coincidence, and you stifled the little voice in your head that tried to tell you it might have been some taste of fate – there were probably ten million other people in the world who smoked Marb Reds besides you and Billy Fucking Hargrove.
“See you tomorrow.” Billy’s husky voice broke you out of your inner monologue. He gave you a small nod as he made his way toward the door. You stepped up to the counter to make your purchase as you tried not to let your mind wander.
Pushing the door open, you jumped as the roar of a blue Camaro just a few feet away startled you.
“Sorry about that,” Billy’s raised voice sounded from the open window of the driver’s seat. Did he just apologize for the sound of his car? What the hell was happening?
“No worries,” you reassured, smiling through your nervousness.
“Where are you headed? If you need a ride somewhere, maybe we can call that repayment for the layaway album.” It was a kind offer, and you’d almost wished your destination was further away so you could take him up on it.
“I’m just going right next door, actually.”
“To the dive bar?” Billy furrowed his brows in confusion. For a second, he thought you were making up a story just to avoid spending a few more minutes with him.
“To The Hideout,” you replied, trying not to let the edge catch your voice too much. “Our band plays shows there every Tuesday. I was late about ten minutes ago, so I really have to run.”
“You’re in a band?” Billy didn’t even try to hide his intrigue. “What kind of music do you guys play?”
“Eddie calls it progressive metal,” you answered. You knew you needed to get moving, but something about the depth of his eyes and the way they gripped you from the inside kept your feet firmly rooted in the concrete.
“Progressive metal,” he repeated slowly. “Interesting.” He looked ahead through his windshield and then down at his watch. “I’m not busy. I guess I might as well go see what you’re all about,” he finally said with a cheeky smile.
“I mean, if you want to. Everyone’s welcome.” You didn’t know what else to say. Was this some kind of prank? You knew Billy was into metal from the songs you couldn’t help but overhear blaring from his car every time he would swerve into the Hawkins High parking lot. Maybe he was genuinely curious about your band, or maybe he just needed an escape for the time being. Either way, you didn’t have time to argue with him, and Corroded Coffin could always use another fan.
Billy turned off the Camaro’s engine, exited the driver’s side, and slammed the door shut, checking the handle to make sure it was locked. He stuffed his hands in the pockets of his form fitting jeans. “Lead the way,” he said with a smirk. His confidence had seemingly returned, and your chest tightened at the thought of what Eddie and the others would say when they saw you walk into the Hideout fifteen minutes late accompanied by Billy Hargrove. You didn’t have time to anticipate whatever the situation might be, so you walked briskly alongside him in silence toward the front door of The Hideout, praying that the M&Ms and Pop Rocks would be enough to appease Eddie, but knowing in your heart of hearts that it definitely wasn’t.

Day 15. Self sacrifice
TW: Attempted murder
Also, a/b/o
The celebrations had been going well. There had not been any bigger problems and the joy and the festive mood from the people of Genosha had been washing through Charles the whole day and there was no way to feel blue because of that. But even more than that, king Erik's genuine smile at him in the mids of their dance had made his heart soar with newfound hope.
Their marriage, arranged as it was, had been an upgrade from Charles' life that far, which while luxarious as an only omega son of a noble family, had been cold and lonely. In Genosha, he had been able to make friends and he was seen more than just a pawn, that was used to seek more power and status.
But it had been clear from the start, that king Erik had not been pleased with the arrangement. The marriage had been strictly political, they hadn't even met each other before the wedding. Charles could clearly remember Erik's eyes that day, distant and cold. He hadn't dared to let his telepathy to even brush against the alpha's mind, he would rather live in ignorance than knowing that his husband despised him.
It had been months since that day and while at the beginning any kind of genuine connection seemed impossible, Charles did't lose hope. And slowly, tentavely, they both had lowered their defences and learned more about each other. And for Erik to smile at Charles so easily today, it seemed that they had come much further than they had even realized.
They were just rerturning to the palace where another crowd of people was waiting for them. The day had been long and Charles' mental shields were somewhat battered, but when his surroundings were this posotive, it didn't bother him much. Their carrige came to a halt and Erik jumped off, before turning to offer his hand for Charles to take. The telepath smiled and took the king's hand, but as he did, he felt a sudden surge of affection that wasn't his own. It was Erik's.
The feeling took him by such a surprise, that he almost fell to the ground as he stepped down from the carrige. Luckily, Erik was there to catch him, his mind alarmed and eyes wide.
"Charles, are you alright?" He asked as his arms stedied the smaller man.
"Yes, yes I'm quite alright. Just lost my footing there for a moment." Charles reassured and laughed off his embarrasment. Erik looked at him for a second longer, doubt creasing his brow, but eventually, he nodded, letting go of Charles. The omega missed the touch as soon as it was gone, but shook it off and walked beside Erik towards the castle.
The crowd was in high spirits and Charles let his power to have a bit more breathing room, soaking all of it in. Happiness, joy and excitement washed over him and made his smile widen. He waved at a small group of children just when he felt something sinister with his telepathy. A one voice that didn't belong. He searched for that mind in the crowd, which wasn't too difficult as it stood out so clearly.
He realised three things about the person who owned that mind. One, he wasn't in the crowd, but in the roof. Two, he was there to kill Erik. Three, he was just about to pull the trigger of his crossbow.
Charles didn't think, he just moved, stepping in front of Erik and just as he saw the king's face turn confused, even annoyed, he felt the pain bloom in his shoulder. He watched as Erik's eyes widened in horror and felt strong arms come to support him while the pain forced him to bend his body. Erik might have said his name, but there were too much screaming and the pain made it hard to think.
"Arrest him!" That he heard, Erik's order booming in his ears. "And get McCoy!"
It registered to Charles only when their surroundings became more dimmer, that they had moved inside the palace. Erik was pulling him along, their footsteps echoing on the stone floor along with their bodyguards'. There was a turmoil under the surface of Erik's mind, but he was solely focused on his goal, to get Charles to Hank's work chamber. He might have said something to Charles, but the other man felt like all energy was being sucked out of his body.
His legs gave up and the last thing he heard was Erik calling his name.
...
"Charles!" Erik felt how panic tried to grip his mind as his consort sagged in his arms, almost falling to the ground, if not for the alpha's hold on him. He managed to keep his mind clear though, his goal simple. Get Charles to the doctor.
So, he picked the omega up into his arms and carried him the rest of the way. Armando opened the door for them and Erik moved to the room, gently laying Charles down on the patient bed, on his stomach, as the arrow was still stuck on his upper back. The arrow that had been meant for Erik, completely devoid of any metal.
He looked at the other man now, his skin had become pale and his clothes were stained with blood. Erik knew he should try to pull the arrow out and take Charles' jacket, vest and shirt off of him, but his worry of doing something wrong and causing more damage was too great. It felt strange, to feel this unsure of his own actions.
Fortunately, doctor McCoy arrived soon. Erik noticed that he had taken off his shoes, most likely to run faster. The doctor didn't waste any time, rolling his sleeves up and moving to stand beside the bed.
"Did the arrow go completely through?" He asked as he moved.
"No." Erik answered immediately.
"I'll need to push the arrow out in that case. Hold his upper body up for me." Erik did as he was told, appreciating that the doctor didn't bother with formalities.
McCoy pushed the arrow until it went through, then broke it and pulled it out completely from the other side. He put the pieces away on a table before starting to remove the clothes on Charles' upper body.
"I need water and a washing cloth." Hank told and Armando moved to get those.
With nothing else to do, Erik checked the arrow. It was expertly made, its tip was made of stone instead of metal. Erik's power was widely known, so that didn't come as a surprise. The fletching was red and black, that might mean something, like colours of an assassin or a guild, but not nessessarely.
"Oh no..." McCoy's voice made Erik's stomach drop and he turned around to look at the doctor and his husband, who had been turned to lie on his back.
"What?" Erik demanded, stepping closer. "What is it?"
"Poison." The one word made the blood freeze inside Erik's body. No... No it couldn't be. But when he looked at the wound that McCoy had been cleaning from the blood, the veins under the skin around it had turned darker.
Charles was going to die...
No! No, there had to be something they could do.
"Do you know what kind of poison?" Maybe there was a cure. And if McCoy didn't have it, then Erik would go search for it himself.
"I have an idea, but to know for sure I'll need few drops of alpha blood." The doctor informed them and Armando stepped forward, about to offer his own, but Erik alrwady summoned his knife to his hand and pricked his finger with it.
This made the doctor look out of his depth for the first time he had stepped into the room, but he recovered quickly and snatched a small cup from a shelf and let Erik's blood drip into it. No more than five drops, until Hank deemed it enough. He moved to get some of the tainted blood from Charles and added that to the cup too. Next, he stirred the mix by shaking the cup gently, until he poured it on to a small plate. Or more accurately, dropped it on to a plate, as the blood now resembled some kind of budding.
Erik didn't know what he should feel after seeing that, but the doctor's sigh of relief told him enough. Charles would be okay.
"Do not worry, your highness, lord Charles will be fine as long as the wound is taken care of and kept clean." McCoy assured him and started working on the wound, cleaning it and then stitching it.
"What was it?" Erik questioned, wondering about the poison.
"Convallaria majalis. Its poison is extraordinary, as it is deadly for alphas, but for betas and omegas, it only causes mild symptoms like fever and weakness." The beta explained, but then looked at Charles' face with a frown. "The dosage might have been quite high, if it is the reason why the lord fainted." He thought aloud and only after Armando coughed and made him to look at him and Erik, did he shook his head and hurried to continue. "But I'm confident that he will make a full recover."
Erik wasn't going to believe it before he saw Charles awake and smiling again, but for now, he held onto the hope that it was possible.

It's drabble time! Supernatural au, Vaxleth but kinda before they are a full on thing! WARNING: Descriptions of violence, gore/blood and death. (Rabbit and human!) My supernatural au is a bit of a horror au keep that in mind!
What Vax was doing by all means was dangerous and if anyone were to figure out what he was doing he’s sure he’d get an ear full but it wasn’t fair. It wasn’t fair that Keyleth went through this, has been going through this, completely alone. He stands crouched, concealed within the branches of a leaf barren tree as he watches the werewolf bellow tear into the carcass of a freshly caught rabbit. The small creatures body by no means is enough to fill her ravenous stomach. Before Keyleth, he and his sister had never met or dealt with a lycanthrope. The more and more they learn about her condition the more and more dread they all feel. To turn into a mindless beast but be forced to watch, feel, and smell the actions it makes you do. Feel your muscles work against your wishes, to feel emotions that are both your own and aren’t. It’s a horrific curse that he;s come to realize media and other supernaturals have never fully looked into. He remembers when they first discovered she wasn’t human. He and Vex had been on the run from a new hunter that’d come to town, they eventually took refuge in Keyleth, her father, and Percy’s home. Only to discover a very dishivaled Percy who told them they’ll be the ones to apologize to Keyleth, it was confusing until a shaken and somewhat blood soaked Keyleth walked into the house in the morning. She didn’t even spare them a glance before she was vomiting in the sink, until it was halted by the sound of her choking. He acted quickly and was able to dislodge the necklace that’d been stuck in her throat. He’s never going to forget the clinking of the metal hitting the sink nor the sound of her gurgles and sobs as it left her body. You’d think as a vampire he’d be used to such things, but the look in her eyes left an impression that has never been shaken from him. Now here he is watching blood drip from her muzzle onto the gore tainted snow at her somewhat canine like feet as she smells the air. Most likely she is looking for her next meal. Vax’s stomach turns, he can’t interfere for his own safety but at the same time he knows they’re near a bus stop. Taking a deep breath in, his still heart sinks. He can tell Keyleth’s caught the scent as well when she starts to stalk in the direction the scents coming from. It’s Keyleth’s most hated hunt. A human is near and the beast is hungry, it doesn’t care what it’s meal is as long as it has flesh to consume. As quickly and as quietly as he can he follows, the red furred werewolf. He can see her fur rippling over her powerful muscles as her pace speeds up into a silent trot with the skill of a deadly predator. She’s a beautiful tragedy and he can’t help but fall for her more even as his heart fills with dread and pain for her. It’s not long before they can see the lone street lamp that illuminates the bus stop, where a single woman sits. Judging by looks and smells it’s thankfully no one he recognizes. Both he and Keyleth freeze in place, her the wolf ready for it’s next kill and he the bird awaiting for death to claim another yet again. With stedy steps and low ears, she moves. The woman doesn’t have time to scream before the snarp sting of smashing teeth find it’s place in her throat. The scent of fresh human blood exploades into the air as it flows from the wound. She doesn’t stop there as her claws come up to tear away at the limp form entraped in her mouth, like an unholy art display made in the image of fear and regret. He feels he shouldn’t be seeing this, like it isn’t his place, like he should turn away in respect for the poor soul who’s about to be torn asunder. But if Keyleth is forced to watch, so is he.

The division
Like nails to a coffin my spirit is bound to my body; astral and physical both finding unity to compose the symphony of my essence, only to be revealed halfway, impeded by the carnage of the battle between my mind and heart.  Like a stab wound comes the feeling of being held hostage under my own skin, the feeling is numbing and consuming like the fire of a chimney left unattended, eventually lighting the house on fire and eating all the precious memories held within. I walk alone in the lane of sorrows, holding my own hand in hopes of finding some stedying strength within. Nobody can help me find the path I’m searching, for I am both the map and the lost item and my consciousness is the distance that must be traveled.  Mirrors on the wall don't help me; they don't show the rough details of my true form. The face belongs to me yet I don't belong to it. My true self finding it hard to escape the confines of the limits it was given when created, limiting me to an existence of showing the world a small fraction of who I truly am.

i agree on your post about trish. Since season 1 it was referenced that this would happen. season 1 started her craving, season 2 she was acting on that craving and in this season it was unleashed. great example of good writing.
Exactly. We have seen Trish tendencies from the start. She wanted this badly , too badly. And it has been building up ever since. And the sad thing is that this probably couldn’t have been avoided. Yes Jessica’s comeback into her life accelerated this. As did the traumas she suffered with Killgrave, the superdrug, her superpowers, her mom...this all accelerated things but I think even without them Trish would have gone for it sooner or later. She had already started training and as we understood there are many black market doctors and drugs the news of which would have eventually reached her. With her money and her media connections it would have been only a matter of time until she found some supwer powered procedures that either give her powers, crippled her or killed herMaybe if Trish had found some sort of a stedy support system that could help her deal with her powers something like SHIELD maybe she would have stood a chance but as it was with their broken little family.....

31 Best Parallax Websites To Inspire You in 2019
Traditional thinking in the field of web design held that your website should be designed in a way to minimize the need for the user to scroll and to keep the most important information "above the fold."
However, a lot has changed in recent years and if you think about it, we live in a scrolling culture.
Web users have become accustomed to scrolling down the page to get that absolute last piece of information. Google also prefers websites that have longer session durations, and one of the more likely ways to accomplish this is to entice visitors to scroll by creating unique experiences.
Incorporating parallax scrolling also can help you accomplish and solve a variety of goals such as:
Immersing your visitors into unique experiences
Drawing action to CTAs or forms
Providing natural movement to otherwise inanimate images
When executed accurately, the application of this technique should be something the average user wouldn’t be distracted by or notice. It should only help aid in any larger goals you want you website to accomplish.
But before we get too into far let's take a step back and actually review what parallax scrolling really is.
What Is Parallax Scrolling?
Parallax scrolling is a special scrolling technique used in web design where background images throughout a web page move slower than foreground images, creating an illusion of depth on a two-dimensional site.
It is one of the most used design techniques in web design right now, but also something you probably don’t even realize you have already experienced.
It is a simple motion that you are already accustomed to and it’s helped make many websites feel dynamic and interactive.
If one chooses to use this though, it's important to brainstorm how parallax could also affect the mobile experience. To increase site speed and not infringe too much on mobile usability, it's typically advices to either reduce parallax scrolling, or remove it entirely.
Remember to think of all instances where you may want to use it first and how it needs to be adjusted for users across multiple devices.
35 Sites That Got It Right
Because parallax scrolling can be utilized in a variety of ways, there’s no shortage of examples to  inspire you.
It's easy to go overboard with parallax scrolling to the point where it feels too much movement is taking place, but there are websites that know how to execute it properly.
The following examples do just that and have incorporated parallax scrolling in a way that makes sense and adds value. Some utilize the technique to the extreme, while others have employed it to add to the user experience without any potentially overwhelming effects.
1. Kontainer
Kontainer uses parallax scrolling in a more subtle way to direct  attention to the images of its software.
This helps make the half image, half text pattern through the page more interactive, allowing it to further stand out from the stark white design of their site.
2. Hitachi
Hitachi, like Kontainer, also uses a subtle implementation of parallax to draw attention to the typography and smaller headers on their pages.
This reminds users to take time to read the words next to the images they are associated with, getting them to dive more into the content on the page.
3. Flixxo
Flixxo brings their website to life not only with their animations and 3D graphics but also with the motion of text in each section. Because the background has such a seamless effect from one section to the next, the parallaxing text helps notify the user where each section is broken up.
4. Crema
Throughout Crema’s website, there are a few parallax background color change effects triggered right after scrolling past the hero.
This helps indicate segment content and helps the visitor understand when something new is about to be displayed.
5. EdenYale
EdenYale has applied parallax scrolling on each design shape placed on their site pages.
These deliberate elements help uphold the design aesthetic they want to keep consistent for their brand. The one color and slow movement of the background also makes it feel as if there is more on the page, making them want to scroll.
6. Building the Future
Building the Future, a conference by Ativar, repurposes has the conference information parallax scroll down the page over a vertically positioned version of the conference title. Once users figure that out, this helps the user identify how much longer they need to scroll to not only hit the end of the conference name, but also the end of the pages content
The dotted background also moved drastically when you move your mouse, offering some interactive fun if you weren’t already drawn the bold colors the site has.
7. Cooper Perkins
Cooper Perkins might be a small site, but that doesn't stop them from applying parallax to their website. On a couple pages, they use large hero graphics that ‘reveal’ the rest of the page under it after scrolling.
The small statistics throughout the image collage also use parallax which helps them stand out.
8. AlliencePlus
AlliencePlus serves as a great example of showcasing how critical non-stock photography is in painting the picture of your employees and clients.
It uses parallax scrolling to scroll particular images down the page with you that eventually stop in a section further down. It makes users want to continue following them to see where they will end up.
My favorite use case of parallax on the site is their testimonials which are controlled by scrolling of your mouse on the job page.
9.  Micai
Being a wealth management platform, Micai needs to really create trust between it and the user due to the sensitive nature financial products can bring.
The company’s use of parallax scrolling the background images and software images help bring life to the product and those who are using it. This humanizes the product and helps build trust.
10.Centros (Raleigh)
I fell in love with this section of Centros site (and found myself finding reasons why I might need a new bike too).
As you scroll, the page takes you through many of the bike’s features by zooming and enhancing those sections so you know exactly what makes this bike as amazing as it's described to be, all using parallax.
11. Stedi
Electronic data interchange (EDI) may sound like a concept that isn't the sexiest, but Stedi makes its software and company look amazing with  intricate and colorful iconography and graphics.
Some of the graphics (such as a hot air balloon or airplane) work really well with the parallax scrolling, making them move the same as they would in the real world.
12. TEDxBethesda
TEDx Bethesda plays with the theme of being the visionary and imagining things that are beyond the norm or ‘out there.’
To mold that theme, they placed the content and other images on the homepage page atop of a outer space/dotted pattern. To add to that, those images and text even move slightly depending on where you move your mouse on the page.
13. Canatal
Canatal’s homepage is broken up into numbered sections that help explain some key components that differentiate the company.
As you scroll though the site, sections and images associated with them scroll or grow into view. The gravitas of these sections also make it feel like Canatal really wants to celebrate the three areas they highlight.
14. Laurent-Perrier
Nearly every single image and text area on Laurent-Perrier’s site has a very slight parallax effect applied to it.
With the sophisticated nature of the site, I find the delicate use of parallax scrolling reminiscent of the slight movement a wine in a glass has when you hold it in your hand.
15. La Phrase 5
La Phrase 5’s site is composed primarily of smaller, more contained geometric shapes and circles with text and images within them.
Each of these sections moves at different speeds, overlapping one another in the process. The style is very reminiscent of ones you’ll see more commonly in print design and nicely sections off parts of the website.
16. Scrollino
The Scrollino® is described as an “innovative device to read continuous printable editorial or book content.” Although there are a few videos that show how the product can be used, there are also other animations of the product on the page which trigger from user’s scrolling.
17. Erudi
Erudi, a design studio, plays with organic, colorful shapes that are carried throughout the left and right sides of their website.
Since the site is primarily very white, the movement of these shapes is what adds a little life and color to their branding.
18. Devine Vineyard
Devine Vineyard has some stunning images of its vineyard and products prominently positioned throughout the website.
What really adds to the display of them is how the images are shaped non-geometrically and have very distressed edges. The parallax scrolling on the images brings even more focus to them as they tell the story of their wine and spirits.
19. CodeQ
CodeQ, like others, really likes using parallax scrolling to position the images as if they are floating past the static content they are next to.
They also use parallax creatively on their portfolio pages by revealing layers of images as they spread more apart from one another as you scroll, creating depth.
20. Cancer Research Foundation
The Cancer Research Foundation has applied a very dynamic and colorful brand to their organization that coincides with the ‘bold’ cures they want their scientist to explore.
To play into the scientific theme of the site, their design incorporates small sketches of research notes and molecule compounds that scroll at a faster speed above or behind the site's content.
21. Konstantopoulos
For an olive oil company, it's incredibly important to showcase the importance of the olives you use to create your product, and that's exactly what Konstantopoulos does.
They’ve placed smaller images of olives, olive leaves, and olive pits delicately across the pages of their site.
My favorite use case is on the production process page.
The page offers an interactive scrolling experience of images and text moving at varying speeds that tell the story of how they make their oil.
22. UBank
On their homepage, UBank uses parallax scrolling to show the various types of interfaces you might encounter using their application. As you enter new sections and the subsections within each, the images will change depending on the content that's highlighted.
It almost feels as if you’re being taken on a tour of how the product can be used.
23. Smith Institute
Smith Institute offers a team of experts that bring insights and solutions to mathematical and engineering challenges.
On its ‘about’ page, they use parallax to scroll through the years to highlight the milestones they’ve hit over time.
The slow scrolling years and icons in the background bring a bit more context to the points where they had the biggest achievements happen.
24. NeaMedia
NeaMedia is a company that works to create 3D sculptures and figurines for a variety of different purposes. So it only makes sense for them to get up close and show their work and detail that goes into them.
To accompany that, NeaMedia uses parallax on all of there images to add emphasis and attention to the incredible work they do.
25. Upper
Upper is a simple productivity application that can be downloaded on your mobile device to help manage your work and motivate you to keep up with it.
Towards the middle of the page, Upper uses parallax to show the various color display options you can use in the app with floating examples of how its UI in the background.
This offers a great way to see how the design transforms throughout the different variations.
26. Lanbelle
Lanbelle is one of my favorite examples of parallax scrolling in this group of examples, primarily because of the varieties of ways it uses it.
On many sections, there are layers of ingredients with bold text and images, aiding in telling the story of how these products were made.
While on others  in the ‘philosophy’ navigation, Lanbelle uses vivid images that scroll over the previous to explain their business model and its importance.
27. Loaded
Using 3D animations, shapes, and parallax, Loaded elevates the experience on their site by making many of the initial graphics you see move in a variety of ways. Their choice of using red and black tones also bring up the energy and excitement of the page.
28. NooFlow
NooFlow truly believes their product is going to be the solution to amplifying your performance and knows its website needs to be able to represent that. To achieve this, NooFlow parallaxes pictures of the product, ingredients, or pill depending on the page you are visiting.
29. Vanguard Prague
Vanguard Prague has helped facilitate the luxury and forward-thinking design of loft living throughout the Prague area.
Their use of parallax scrolling granite textures, text, and imagery allows users to paint the picture of what type of product Vanguard might give you if you choose to hire them as your loft designer.
30. Packwire
Packwire has a variety of box sizes you can use to create the perfect box for whatever you may need it for.
The homepage features a few of the options in the hero area and animates as you scroll into a different position that reveal descriptive text as to what each box is called, and the featured they offer.
31. WebFlow
Have you ever wanted to go back in time and be reminded (or learn) what the web used to look like and how it has progressed? Look no further than WebFlow's site.
They take you on a journey through the history of the web, parallaxing a variety of elements that transition into modern-day design as you get closer to the bottom of the page.
So What Do You Think?
Parallax scrolling certainly offers a variety of advantages to the user experience and may even help better attain some of your website marketing metrics when executed properly.
But, the technique also isn't for everyone. Depending on you target audience your users may find the effect too distracting or even annoying, so many sure to test the effect on a smaller scale and receive feedback before proceeding with any large scale UI changes for this.

CHAPTER TWO: YOU JUST HAVE TO MEAN IT
NSFW, 18+, MINORS DNI
Part One if you would like to start at the beginning 💕 Part Three if you're ready to move on.
Chapter Two is SFW content (though later there WILL be NSFW content, therefore, the 18+ label) - here's slightly more background, but we'll get into some feels this time.
A/N: HERE IS PART TWO! This contains some feels, and I think this is a moment that so many of us have needed - at least I have. A little more background setup, and the next part will get the story moving a little more. I still don't have a title (*surprise*), but I think that will come along as the story unfolds. As usual, check the tags for hints on what's to come, and THANK YOU SO MUCH for reading, and I love you very much!!
Eddie scooped up the mushy green pile of guacamole on his plate with two fingers and flung it onto the ground with a glop. The street tacos were more than satisfactory for 25 cents apiece, and everyone was chattering about that night’s impending show with their mouths full and their hands greasy.
“What do you mean you’re not going to sing Pat Benetar?! Everyone loves Pat Benetar,” Steve protested, breaking out into a very unique rendition of “Shadows of the Night.”
“It’s not that kind of music, Steve,” you replied through a giggle. Steve gestured as if to say “whatever” and indulged himself in another taco while Eddie started refastening his rings to each of his digits, taking care to make sure they were all facing the correct way.
“Harrington, while I am no music taste basher, I will say that you are a pathetically poor judge of genre. What does the phrase ‘progressive metal music’ mean to you, dear boy?” Eddie broke out his Olde English accent for this question, and Steve knew it was only a matter of moments before you and Eddie both started teasing him mercilessly, and he didn’t have the means to defend himself against a Hellfire ambush right now.
“Well, it’s about time to get going back,” he managed to convey around his last bites of street taco. “You don’t want to be late for work twice in one day.” Your mouth fell open in mock offense as you backhanded him on the shoulder before standing up from the park bench you were all sitting at.
As the three of you made your way back up the sidewalk to Trax, you decided to share what had been floating around in your head since you left the shop. “It was kind of weird seeing Billy be so unphased about you running into him. You stepped right on his shoe, and he didn’t even complain. Not a single insult. Did you notice?”
Steve scoffed. “Yeah. That doesn’t make me any more glad to see him though.” He kicked a rock a few feet out in front of him, and Eddie took a skip forward and made the next kick.
“I don’t know,” Eddie mused. “I think something might have clicked in the douchebag. Tommy was trying to pay some kid to key my van when I picked Dustin up from school the other day, and Billy totally rocked his shit in front of everyone. Told him he’d be dead if Billy ever caught him trying to mess with me again.”
“What?!” you and Steve gawked in unison, both of you coming to an abrupt halt.
“And you didn’t think to, maybe, I don’t know, mention that?” Steve’s eyebrows almost met his hairline in surprise. “Dude, how could you not tell us this?” You could tell he was actually slightly offended, so you decided to soften the mood with an irrelevant question.
“And what was Billy doing in the parking lot of the high school?” You resumed the game of kick the rock so everyone would continue down the sidewalk again.
“Picking up Max is my best guess,” Eddie replied, taking his skip forward for the rock.
“Yeah, well, a few good deeds don’t erase a whole year of being a total prick to anything that breathes,” Steve grumbled, keeping his eyes on the ground and taking his turn to kick the rock.
“Out of any of us here, you would do well to remember that people can change if they want to, Steve,” you said, giving him an affectionate side eye. “It wasn’t even two years ago that you were King Steve, being just as much of a prick to Jonathan as Billy was to you. Give him some time. See what it’s all about. That’s my suggestion.”
Steve sighed heavily and gestured toward the front door of Trax as Eddie opened it for you. No one said another word as you entered the building, sloppy salutes signaling the end of the conversation, and the two guys continued on their return to Steve’s car.
Screeching tires alerted everyone in the Hawkins High parking lot of the arrival of a slick blue Camaro. Billy flicked his cigarette out of his window and saw Max swiftly approaching his passenger side door, her ginger hair flowing steadily behind her, skateboard resting on her shoulder. She slid into the seat beside Billy’s and clunked her bag and board down by her feet.
“Max,” Billy said dryly, keeping his aviator sunglasses fixed on the windshield in front of him.
“I’m not late,” she replied, a slight tone of annoyance in her voice.
“I know,” Billy stated, reminding himself to soften his jaw when he spoke to her. “I just want to talk when we get home, if you’re not, you know, busy or whatever.” Max just stared at him, incredulous.
“You want to…talk? About what?”
“Nothing, okay? Nothing until we get home.” The sharpness returned to Billy’s voice as he gripped the gearshift and peeled them out of the parking lot. Max was completely lost for words, but she complied with Billy’s instruction and tried to zone in on Ted Nugent’s “Wango Tango” for the trillionth time as Billy sped down the side roads to their home on Cherry Lane.
Max hurried through the front door and straight to her room to discard her things. She was eager to know what Billy could possibly want to talk about, but she was also afraid to ask. After everything they had experienced this past year, it could be anything, and she wasn’t sure she was ready for anything again. She turned around to find Billy standing in her doorway with his eyes down at his shoes. Why was he acting so weird? This wasn’t like him at all, and it made a hint of anxiety start to creep down her neck, giving her the shivers.
“Billy?” she said, unable to hide the concern in her voice.
Billy shuffled his feet where he stood and started to fidget with his sunglasses in his hands, still not making eye contact with Max. “I need to ask you something, and you have to swear not to make fun of me. I’m dead serious,” he said, his ocean blue eyes finally making stone cold eye contact.
“Okay. I promise.” Max’s voice shook slightly, and she took a seat on her bed to steady herself.
“I need to know how to apologize,” Billy admitted, his eyes falling back down to the ground.
“Apologize? For what?” He must have hit his head, Max thought. There was no way this was actually Billy talking.
“For being…ugh.” Billy let out a painful sigh and took the bridge of his nose between his fingers. “For making everyone’s lives hell this past year.” Max’s eyes were wide, her mouth hanging open in shock. He had apologized to her, and they had what she would consider a pretty fair conversation about their sibling relationship, but this was completely unexpected. He wanted to apologize to The Party?
“I mean, I guess you just…say it, you know? You just say it, and you hope for the best, and that’s all you can do.”
Billy was unimpressed. “That’s it?” he asked with a scoff. “That can’t be it. It needs to be more. Needs to be better than that or there’s no way in hell they’re going to take me seriously.”
“You just have to mean it,” Max replied, her eyes softening as she came to the realization that this was really important to him. She had never seen him like this before, and it was clear that he really felt remorse, and he wanted something to change.
“Max,” Billy choked, his voice breaking. A tear fell from his face making a tiny tap on his shoe, and Max stood up abruptly.
“Billy, it’s going to be okay,” she said, her own eyes welling up now. She had only ever seen him cry once.
“Max, I’m so sorry. I know you said you forgave me, and I know things have been different ever since July, but I’m just so sorry.” Billy was speaking softly through sobs now. “Max, I can’t be the same as I was. I can’t explain it. Nothing can ever be the same as it was before everything that happened, and I don’t know who I am anymore.” Billy brought his hands up to his face, covering his eyes as he continued to choke out words as best as he could. “I’m so sorry, Max. You didn’t deserve that. Nobody did. I need to make things right, but I don’t know how.”
“Billy.” Max stook a few steps toward him, palming his shoulder gently. “I know there has always been a part of you that wants to be good. I forgave you because I really believed that. All you can do is say it, mean it, and try. Just keep trying.” Billy reached his arms out and gave Max a firm hug. He had no idea how badly he had always needed to hear that, and in that moment, he found himself eternally grateful he had a little sister.
After a few seconds of the second hug they had ever shared, Billy let go, and Max took a step back, both of them wiping their eyes, noses red and puffy from the flare of emotion. Billy patted Max on the shoulder and pivoted on his heel to leave her bedroom. Max turned her attention to her backpack and mentally prepared herself to start her homework.
“Max?”
“Yeah?”
“Thanks.” Billy half smiled, and Max could tell his gratitude was genuine.
“Anytime.” She returned his half smile, and Billy sauntered away into the other room. Max found herself, for the first time ever, feeling really proud of her brother.
