I've been working through RtDL DX's Extra Mode fairly slowly, so I'm only just getting close to finishing it up now. I got all 120 Energy Spheres earlier today, and uhhhhhhh
Fun fact: This dialogue is entirely new to DX! It's not in the original. I went back to my old file on the Wii and checked.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Haha yeah you little shit, we know you're planning to betray us soon (still love you though <3)
Tumblr media
WHAT THE FUCK????????
EXCUSE ME????????
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then he goes on to explain a bit more, as seen above. But uhhhhhh,,, yeah!!! He's not actually Halcandran!!!! That's a new piece of Lore right there. My jaw dropped while reading it lmao
Anyway, moving on from that bombshell of a sentence, since we still aren't done with the full dialogue,
Remember that post I made a bit over a month ago talking about some of Manager Magolor's dialogue, where I was wondering if that dream of his regarding the theme park also applied to Main Mode Magolor?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I WAS FUCKING RIGHT!
Hell yeah this is such a victory for me I was so excited to read that dghsghfs
Magolor stole the Master Crown so he could make a giant theme park Confirmed and Canon and Real /hj
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then we also get a fun little reference to the Kirby Clash games!
Tumblr media
A steal in Kirby's eyes, maybe, but that's only because he doesn't understand real-world currency.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And to close out this post, here are the last two lines of dialogue from this conversation!
Anyway. I'm losing my mind 💖

Why Marry
Tumblr media
Pairing: Elvis Presley x black!reader
Word Count: 13.3K (I got carried away again, I’m not sorry)
Summary: Elvis and Y/N are childhood sweethearts in Tupelo, Mississippi. The love that they have for one another even blossoming when he moves off to Memphis. While he is away in Germany, Y/N marries another man. As time goes on, the two sweethearts grow distant, but can distance cause the heart to grow fonder?
Warnings: ANGST, reader marries another man, mentions of the colonel, a few time skips, talks about Elvis at Sun Records, eventual smut, FLUFF, happy ending for the two
A/N: This is the third installment of my Sweet Inspirations inspired saga. This one a bit sadder than the rest, but I hope that it doesn’t deter you from reading. The fic is based off of The Sweet Inspiration’s ‘Why Marry’. If you would be so kind, check the song out! It’s really good! Like truly! I’m not really good at writing angst, but I think I did a pretty good job at writing this one. It made me cry. As always, I hope you guys enjoy :)
Tumblr media
There are two types of childhood sweethearts: the seasonal sweethearts and the lifelong sweethearts. You would like to think that as long as you knew Elvis, he would be your lifelong sweetheart. You and Elvis were always together, ever since you were kids. There was never a place you or he would go without one another. You were born and raised in Tupelo, living at the Shake Rag because your father left your mother when she was pregnant with you. She was forced to penny pinch and work multiple jobs even after you were born. Your grandmother would watch you, catching on early that you were ever the social butterfly. There was never a stranger that you knew, always wanting to help out even if you didn’t have the financial means to do so.
Elvis and his mother, Gladys, arrived at Shake Rag when he was a child as his father was carted away to jail for financial troubles. Your mother and grandmother welcomed her and her son with open arms, sometimes inviting them over for dinner when things were a little too rough for them. They even admired little Elvis because he took on the responsibilities of being the man of the house, working alongside his mother so that she wouldn’t have to suffer and struggle alone. At first, he was shy. He wouldn’t speak a word when you would try to share your toys or when you would invite him out to play with you and the other kids.
As time went on, you didn’t even remember that he was once the shy kid who spent his time reading his Captain Marvel Jr comic books. The only thing that you did remember was he was your best friend and you were his. The Presley family and your family would continue the ritual of having dinners during the weekends, even welcoming Vernon when he returned to his family after his stint in jail. Vernon was a man of only a few words, but he welcomed you into his family as if you were his own. However, outside of Shake Rag, you couldn’t be seen with them due to your color. Times were hard; sometimes, you would cry because you wanted to attend school with Elvis, having to attend a different school because schools were segregated. “Mama, I don’t understand why I can’t go to school with Elvis. He’s still my best friend.” You would cry into your pillow as your mama tried to console you. “Darling, nothing will change between you and Elvis, but you know how outside people will view your relationship. He’s white and you’re black, baby. That’s the way God created you.”
You would try to not let the situation deter you, waiting for Elvis to return home every afternoon from school. Both of your mothers would let you sit on their porch alternatively, where you would do your homework together. He would even read his comic books to you, telling you his dreams of wanting to fly to the rock of eternity just like his favorite comic book hero. You grew to admire his aspirations, thinking about your hopes and dreams and how Elvis would fit. You could only hope that the world was ready to embrace you and Elvis together.
Your relationship with Elvis would change drastically as he grew into a teenager, puberty nearly catching you by surprise at how handsome he had become. He was finally changing from the shy kid who never went far without his mama to having full confidence due to his looks. You also couldn’t miss how girls would follow him wherever he would go, causing you to experience your first taste of jealousy because you were afraid that you would lose your best friend. However, Elvis would always remind you that you were his bestest girl; that nothing and nobody would ever change that.
You would hold on to his words, noticing how he would linger his gaze on you as puberty finally caught up with you. His eyes would move along your curves, commenting on how the only girl that lived in Shake Rag projects was turning into a woman. You didn’t miss how his hands would linger at the swell of your hips as he would hug you, his touch sending shivers through your body. Times were changing and you weren’t getting any younger. You didn’t know what to do with the feelings that you felt whenever you were around Elvis and you could tell that his feelings were changing from platonic to much more.
One night, Elvis was sitting outside of his house, strumming his guitar that his daddy had bought him from the general store in town. You had finished helping your mother with chores, deciding that you needed some air. You also wanted to catch a glance of the boy who was starting to become the center of your world. He was singing a song that you had heard him sing before; Woody Herman’s ‘Let Me Love You Tonight’ but it was something about the way he crooned that sent your heart reeling.
Let me love you tonight
Let me tell you how much I adore all of your charms
Though you leave me tomorrow, for this night we’ll borrow a love song
Let me love you tonight
Let me thrill to the touch of your sheltering arms
Til the scent of the roses caresses and closes your eyes
You sat down beside him, his eyes staring into yours as he continued to play his guitar. You hummed along with him, closing your eyes as you listened to his crooning and only in that moment, it was the two of you. He finished the song, placing the guitar down beside the rocking chair that he was sitting in. You opened your eyes, looking up at him with a smile, but he didn’t return it. “What’s the matter, honey? You look like you’ve been told some bad news.” He sighed, standing up from the chair before walking towards the side of his porch; his eyes looking towards the night sky. “We are leaving Tupelo.” You stood up in a hurry, walking over to where he was standing; your body facing him as you made sure that you heard him correctly. “Leaving? Where are you going?” You asked, feeling your heart tearing apart at the seams. He turned to face you, his eyes shining with tears as he couldn’t meet your eyes as he started to explain the shift happening in his life.
“We are moving to Memphis. At the end of the week. Daddy got a better job out there, so we are packing up and going with him.” His voice shook as he tried to hold himself together, the pain of having to part from you seemingly turned his world upside down. “Did you just find this out? Why are you only telling me now?” Your eyes filled with tears, unable to hold them back as they freely flowed from your eyes. Elvis took you by the hands, holding them tightly in his as he looked at you. He had never seen you cry like this; sure, he had seen you cry when you were kids when the neighborhood kids would tease you about having cooties, but he had never seen you cry like this. It broke his heart into many pieces, but there was nothing he could do about the situation. “I found out last night, Satnin. I just couldn’t find the words to tell ya. Don’t be mad at me, please? Not when we only have a few days to spend together.” You sniffled at his explanation, looking away from him to look up at the night sky; the stars seemingly not as bright as other nights.
“Satnin, I think before I leave, I have to get some things off of my chest or it’ll kill me.” You looked back at Elvis, pulling your hands away to wipe the tears that were drying on your skin. You nodded your head, crossing your arms to hold yourself as you waited for him to speak. “Y/N, I don’t wanna leave Tupelo without tellin’ ya how I feel about ya. You know you’re my bestest girl and that’ll never change. But, I don’t wanna be friends anymore.” He put his hand up to stop you from responding, taking a deep breath before he stepped forward towards you.
“I don’t want to only be your friend. I don’t wanna be the older brother to ya, I don’t wanna be the boy that you run to when you’re havin’ boy troubles either. I wanna be more than that, lil’.” You shook your head, not comprehending what he was saying, but you kept your mouth shut in hopes that he would connect the missing piece. “What I’m sayin’ is, I’m not good at this confessing type of stuff. I wanna be your boyfriend, honey. I wanna be the one you can run to when you’re having troubles, the one you call when you have exciting things to say. Ya get what I’m saying to ya?”
Elvis looked into your eyes as you stared back at him, unable to fully grasp what he was saying to you. “M-my boyfriend? Well, yeah. I want you to be my boyfriend, Elvis. I’ll be yours and you’ll be mine. I just don’t want you to leave.” You whispered to him, sniffling once again as the tears threatened to flow once again. Elvis wiped your cheeks with his thumbs, pulling you into his arms as his mood shifted from what was somber only a few moments ago. “I’m sure glad to hear that you agree. Mama told me that I should make a move before it was too late, but I’m so glad that you agreed.” At that moment, he pressed his soft lips upon yours, taking you by surprise as he pulled you closer into his embrace. You wrapped your arms around his shoulders, kissing him back softly before he pulled away; his eyes moving back up to the night sky that shined brightly as the only peace that was present was having you in his arms.
The week flew by, the pain and heartbreak that you felt grew as you knew that Elvis and his family were leaving. The day that they were due to leave, your family waited in front of their house, helping them pack everything into their family truck. You were clinging on to Elvis, sobbing with grief as he repeated over and over that he would call you every day. As they got everything settled, you were forced to let him go so that he could climb in the truck after his mama. You and your family watched as they pulled away from Shake Rag, Elvis’ eyes never leaving yours until their truck was no longer in sight.
Elvis stayed true to his word, calling you every day and sending letters about his new life in Memphis. He would tell you how much he missed you, how much he wanted you there with him. He had started school shortly after, telling you about how the boys would pick on him because he would walk around the school grounds, strumming his guitar and singing. He would also tell you about how the girls would follow him around, wanting to hear more from the new kid with the southern croon.
School was uneventful for you as you would only go to school and then rush home because you didn’t want to miss a phone call from him. You would beg and plead with your mama to pack up and leave Tupelo behind, wanting to move to Memphis to be closer to Elvis and his family. Gladys would stay in touch with your mother, telling her about the opportunities that Memphis held. It didn’t take much convincing for your mother to agree, so at the end of the following year, your family packed up and moved away from Tupelo, finding a new life in Memphis. Your mother managed to find a cheap home, taking a job as a seamstress in town as you would continue with school. You would eventually pick up a job as well at the local diner downtown in your spare time, but you would also spend as much time as possible with Elvis and his family.
Tumblr media
Memphis was much different than the life that you had in Tupelo. You were in another world compared to Shake Rag, so it took some time getting used to. There were places where you couldn’t go, only imagining how life would be if segregation wasn’t a thing. Elvis was about to graduate high school and so were you, so there was no doubt that things were going to change and hopefully for the better. Elvis didn’t have any plans about what he wanted to do after high school, but one thing he knew that he wanted to do was marry you. You were over the moon at the thought of becoming Mrs. Presley, talking to your friends about how you wanted to be by his side every step of the way.
Your mother thought you were crazy, in fact, she made it known that she didn’t think it was a good idea, considering how the world was. “Baby girl, you and Elvis are no longer at Shake Rag. Do you know what people would say if they saw Elvis walking around town with a black girl on his arm? You and him could be in for a world of trouble.” You didn’t care though, dismissing her words as her just being worried. “Mama, I know where you are coming from. Believe me, I’ve seen the hateful looks that I get when I’m walking to work. Elvis ain’t that way and neither is his family. As long as they’ll accept me, nothing else matters.” Your mother would sigh, rubbing your back as she shook her head. “You’ll see, baby. You’ll see.”
You would tell Elvis about the conversations that you and your mother would have, him sighing over the phone as he couldn’t seem to understand how people could have a problem with him wanting to marry the woman that he loved. “Honey, you’re my bestest girl. You know that, right?” You would always tell him that you knew that, but the truth always nagged in the back of your mind that maybe your mother was right. Soon enough, Elvis graduated from Humes and you were on your way to graduating a few days after. During the summer, Elvis would spend time with you at his house where his family would have barbecues and family gatherings. He would always carry his guitar, stating that he never knew when an opportunity would present itself.
At night, he would sit on his porch beside you, singing ballads about love. You knew that he loved you and you loved him just the same. By the time August rolled around, he still had no plans for the future; taking odd jobs to help his family when Vernon couldn’t pay the bills. Although this plan wasn’t getting off the ground, you still supported him in everything that he did. One morning, he called you excited. “What’s going on, Elvis?” You could feel his enthusiasm through the phone, smiling widely as you listened to him speak. “I finally have the chance to go down to Sun Records to record a song! I want ya there with me, baby. Can you come, please?” His boyish whine flipped your heart in your chest, remembering the charm that he had all those years ago in Tupelo.
“Of course, Elvis! I wouldn’t miss anything like this for the world. Are we going today?” Elvis hummed, the tone in his voice made you feel exhilarated. “Yes, I’m gonna come pick ya up shortly! I want ya to dress in your best, this is gonna be the beginning of our lives, Satnin. I’m finally gonna be able to do something other than work on iceboxes.” You hung up with him shortly after, running past your mother as she looked confused at your sudden excitement. “Elvis is going down to Sun Records to perform a record! He wants me to come with him!” She laughed, shaking her head as she told you to be careful and to make sure to be home for dinner. Elvis made it to your house shortly after, honking the horn to get your attention. “Mama, Elvis is here! I’ll be home for dinner, I love you.” You kissed her cheek before running out of the door. Elvis kissed your forehead as you entered his truck, speeding away from your house. On the ride there, Elvis would practice the lines for the songs that he was going to record, you listening with a smile on your face.
You were anxious and rightfully so. You knew that this was a brand new journey for the boy that you loved and yet, you were frightened that he would be let down. You didn’t want to tell him your thoughts, so you kept them at the back of your mind as you neared the recording studio. Elvis didn’t let the car completely shut off before he jumped out of the driver’s side, running around to help you out of the cab of the truck. “Come on, Satnin. I don’t wanna be late.” He grabbed you by the hand, leading you inside. The recording studio was small on the inside, but you were astonished at the sight of guitars and pictures that adorned the walls. “I’m here for the noon recording. I’m Elvis Presley.” The woman looked at him with a smile on her face, handing him the clipboard for him to sign in. “Pleased to meet ya, Elvis. I’m Marion Keisker. If you enter that room right over there, we will get you set up for your session.” Marion looked over at you, a smile on her face as she moved from around the desk.
“Are you here for a session, miss?” You shook your head vigorously, pointing towards the room that Elvis had now disappeared to. “Oh no, ma’am, I’m here with him.” You were waiting for her to look at you in disgust, fearing that she would throw you out of the studio for even thinking about being in the same room as Elvis. Instead, her smile widened as her eyes never left yours. “You’re more than welcome to join him, it looks like he’s gonna need your good luck charms.” She led you into the room, your face in awe at the equipment that looked like it cost more than you made in a week. “Satnin, this is great! Look! They got a picture of B.B. King!” Elvis was like a kid in a candy store, awestruck that he would be recording in the same building as the musicians that he grew up listening to. Marion and a man who was holding the clipboard that she was once holding before, entered shortly after. “Alright, Elvis. I’m Sam Phillips, the owner of Sun Records. Let’s see what songs you got for us.”
Marion stopped Sam before he could leave to go into the booth, turning to Elvis before crossing her arms. “What kind of singer are you, Mister Presley?” Elvis turned around from where he was standing, gripping his guitar as his smile crossed his lips. “I sing all kinds, ma’am. I can sing whatever ya want me to sing.” She smiled, pressing the matter further. “Who do you think you sound like?” Elvis shrugged, his cerulean eyes glittering under the studio lights. He was in his element, you knew it from the time that he walked inside. This was his moment and you were going to be there every step of the way. “Well ma’am, I–I don’t sound like nobody.” Sam nudged Marion, tilting his head toward the booth. “Well, let’s get this show on the road.” Sam and Marion disappeared in the booth, leaving you with Elvis. “You sound like Elvis Presley, honey. That’s good enough for me and it’ll be good enough for everyone else.” Elvis smiled at that, leaning in to kiss your cheek before he moved towards the microphone.
“Alright Elvis, what is the first song that ya wanna record?” Elvis thought for a second before leaning into the microphone. “That’s where your heartaches begin.” You smiled, knowing that was one of the songs that his mother adored. Her birthday was coming soon, so you knew that he wanted one of these songs to be a gift for her. “That’s where your heartaches begin, take one.” Sam spoke, pointing toward Elvis to begin. You sat in a nearby chair, watching as Elvis crooned into the microphone, his fingers strumming on the guitar strings. He sounded beautiful, making you swoon with each word. Elvis may have been playing around when he would sing on some occasions, but you could tell that he was singing from his heart. You looked over at the booth where Marion and Sam were, noticing that Marion looked amazed at how he sounded. You couldn’t help but to smile, knowing that he was sure to be discovered if he kept this up.
Once the recording of the song was finished, Elvis looked over at you with a hopeful smile. You could tell that he was a bit relaxed now, but he was still trembling with nerves as if he was performing before a huge crowd. “You can do this, honey. I believe in you.” The next song was My Happiness, a song that you heard him sing on multiple occasions when it was only you and him. You were sure that this would be your wedding song with him, picturing yourself dancing the night away in his arms after he made you his wife. He winked at you, making your face heat up with ease as he always had done. Sam pointed towards him again, giving him the cue to begin. Elvis took a deep breath, playing on his guitar once again as he began to sing.
Evening shadows make me blue
When each weary day is through
How I long to be with you
My happiness
Every day I reminisce
Dreaming of your tender kiss
Always thinking how I miss
My happiness
You could do nothing at that moment, the feeling of love pouring out of his soul as you witnessed Elvis doing the thing that he loved. Tears pricked at the corners of your eyes as Elvis continued crooning into the microphone. He was truly out of this world; you knew that this was his time to shine and that he was sharing that light with anyone who would listen. He finished the song as Marion and Sam walked into the room. Marion still had a smile on her face, while Sam clapped his hands in astonishment at the boy who stood before him. “Thank you sir, I really appreciate ya lettin’ me record these songs for my mama.”
Sam patted him on the shoulder, not really saying much words before Elvis took you by the hand, leading you out of the studio. “Do ya think mama would like these records? I feel like Sam didn’t really like it.” Elvis told you as he drove you back to your house. “Are you hearing yourself, Elvis? Your mama will love it! You’re her world. I’m sure they liked the songs too. You are extremely talented, honey. Don’t ever doubt yourself.” Elvis didn’t say anything at that moment, the silence was still nice as the drive continued.
As time went on, Elvis didn’t hear anything from Sam or Marion, so he figured that they didn’t care for the songs. His mother adored them, playing the records until it drove the entire house crazy. You didn’t mind it, supporting Elvis was always something that you loved. As the new year rolled around, Elvis would return to Sun Records to record more songs and you would be there every step of the way. It wasn’t until the following summer that his luck would finally turn around when he had the opportunity to record more songs. Elvis had met new people around that time: Scotty Moore and Bill Black and they had formed their little group “The Blue Moon Boys”. Scotty and Bill had become brothers to you, always happy to see you when Elvis would come around. The summer was grueling and unforgiving in Memphis, but you never swayed in your support of Elvis. You were sitting in the studio again until the night, fanning yourself with one of the lyric papers that Elvis had.
Elvis was growing impatient with the entire thing, hinting on one or more occasions that it was time to lay down the guitar and continue working at the electric company. You were a little worn out at the late nights, but you knew that if he continued on, he would eventually strike gold. Elvis decided that he would be his normal joking self, playing tunes on his guitar as he danced around. He decided to sing Arthur Crudup’s That’s All Right, jumping around and making jokes. Bill and Scotty decided to join in on his shenanigans, thinking that it was only something to lighten the mood. Sam peeked his head out from the booth, listening for a while before he asked them what they were doing. “We don’t know.” Scotty responded, beginning to put down his guitar. “Do it again.” Sam said as he went back into the booth, pointing to Elvis to start again. You were enthralled, watching the boys dance around as Elvis sang into the microphone, not sure what would come out of it.
However, he would soon know what did come out of that night session as three days later, Elvis called you on the phone, telling you to turn on the radio. “They are playing my song, Satnin! Turn on the radio.” You hurriedly ran into the living room, turning on the radio where you heard Elvis’ voice singing through the speakers. You thought that you were dreaming, yelling out for your mother to join you. “Mama! Elvis is on the radio!” Your mother walked into the living room, a smile on her face and you thought you saw a stray tear fall down her cheek as she pulled you into a hug. “I knew Elvis could do it, honey. I’m gonna call Gladys later to congratulate them on raising a superstar.” You were so proud of him, wanting to scream at the top of your lungs that your sweetheart was on every radio station. However, you decided to keep yourself together so that he would thoroughly enjoy this moment.
Tumblr media
His stardom didn’t stop on that fateful July afternoon. In fact, he was beginning to perform every chance that he could. You couldn’t go to these performances as much as you wanted to, your mother would remind you repeatedly how dangerous it could be to publicly show your support and love for Elvis. You felt defeated; the thoughts that crossed your mind was nothing short of doubt that your relationship with him would withstand his newfound fame. You could see how the girls liked him, screaming like canaries whenever he was in the room. While he was gone, you wouldn’t hear from him days at a time, but you knew that in your heart that you were his only girl. When Elvis returned from his performances, he had a new person in his circle. He told you that this man was his new manager, someone who could help him with making it mainstream. Colonel Tom Parker was a strange man, in fact, he didn’t look like any colonel that you’ve seen.
Elvis didn’t notice the things that you did, excited at the idea that he would soon star in his first film, ‘Love Me Tender’. The film was a success, shooting Elvis further in the limelight. With Elvis enjoying the attention that he was enjoying, you were suddenly no longer enjoying being left in the dark like a secret. This would start unwarranted arguments between the two of you, leaving cracks that were beginning to show in your relationship. You had never fought with Elvis, even as kids. You could tell that Elvis was blind to the fact that your feelings were beginning to be hurt, not wanting to stand in the way of his success but you also didn’t want to be ignored.
Through all of this, Elvis would constantly remind you that you were his bestest girl and when the time was right, you would be married. This time around, you weren’t so sure if you believed him. He was so far away from you, even if he was in the same room as you. You could only continue supporting him from afar and as much as your mother would tell you that this was the only choice that you had, you were beginning to see that maybe it was the right one.
You would continue working at the diner, taking as many shifts as you could so that you wouldn’t think about losing Elvis. One day, you were working when a man walked into the diner, a smile across his face as you welcomed him. He was handsome; tall but slim, and his brown eyes shined under the light. “Welcome to Maggie’s, I’m Y/N. What can I get for you?” The man smiled at you, reading off his order to you as you jotted it down before turning around to leave. “Wait, ma’am. Would you like to join me?” You were flabbergasted that this man was subtly flirting with you, a pang of guilt hitting your gut as you shook your head. “I can’t do that, sir. I’ll be right back with your meal.” You walked away from him, reading off his order to the cook. You begged your friend, Yvette to take over for you; not wanting to show your face to the man again, in hopes that he wouldn’t speak another word to you.
After much pleading, Yvette agreed. She returned moments later with a sheet of paper, wiggling her brow at you as she smirked. “His name is Charlie.” She walked away from you, leaving you standing in the middle of the kitchen with a sheet of paper with his number scribbled on it. Charlie would become a regular and at first, you would try to avoid him at all costs. However as time went on, he became a dear friend to you. You would speak on the phone with him sometimes, learning that he was a businessman.
You would lean on Charlie whenever Elvis was away, listening to stories about his life and how he moved to Memphis from Chicago. “Chicago? What made you wanna move all the way down here to Memphis?” Charlie would chuckle over the phone, humming under his breath before responding to you. “I used to think the same thing, but now, I have a good reason why I moved down here. I didn’t think I would meet such a beautiful lady as yourself.” You would remind him that you had a boyfriend, but he would tell you that if your boyfriend had any sense, he wouldn’t leave you alone.
Elvis was busy all of the time, traveling back and forth from Memphis to California as his movie career was taking off. You didn’t miss how Elvis would call you sometimes at night, hearing women in the background. He would dismiss your claims of him cheating on you, telling you that he didn’t want to be with anyone other than you. You were growing tired of being away from him, fed up at the fact that you knew that he was lying to you but you couldn’t do anything about it. Then, Elvis returned home for the holidays.
It was 1957, the year had flown by with Elvis being gone and you working as much as you could at the diner. Elvis invited you and your mother to his home for Christmas, telling you that he wanted to celebrate like you had always done. You begrudgingly agreed, but at the back of your mind, it didn’t feel the same. You and your mother arrived at his new home, taking in the atmosphere of being around him and his family. Gladys welcomed you with open arms, hugging you tightly. “We haven’t seen you in a while, sweetheart. How has life been treatin’ you?”
You smiled at her, your heart breaking as you could tell that something was bothering her. “The same old, the shifts at the diner are starting to wear on my body. I think it’s about time that I do something else.” She could only nod, hugging you once again as Elvis entered the room. He wore a frown on his face, his eyes glistening over with tears as he pulled you into his arms. His scent as always sent your heart soaring, wanting to be near him every chance that you could. “What’s the matter, Elvis? You look as if someone died.” You chuckled, but he didn’t return your smile. “I’m being drafted, Satnin. They are sending me away to Germany for two years. Will ya wait for me? I know I’ve had you waiting for me for three years, but all I’m asking is for a little more time. When I come home, we can get married and you’ll never have to be away from me again.” You were beside yourself at that moment, tears pricking at your eyes as you glared up at him.
“I’ve been waiting for the moment when I could marry you and now you’re just leaving? Like that?” Your mother looked at you with a look of grief, knowing that your heart was breaking at the words that were passing his lips. “I don’t have a choice, baby. You know if I dodge the draft, I could be arrested. I don’t wanna ruin everything that I’ve ever worked for.” You pulled away from him, taking in the looks from everyone who was witnessing the news. Gladys was crying in her hands, while Vernon was holding her in his arms. Your mother couldn’t say a word, only patting the tears in her eyes at the sight of her daughter’s outburst. “Baby, calm down. Elvis has to go, but he will be back. Don’t worry yourself sick.” You shook your head as you ran out of the house, ignoring the calls from Elvis and your mother. You had to get out of there, not wanting to break down in front of your mother and his family.
This is it. You’re losing him forever. Elvis is no longer the man that will be your husband, the father of your children, your best friend. He was going to Germany and you don’t even know if he would come home. Your brain screamed at you, causing more tears to flow as you were forced to accept that the cracks that were forming in your relationship with him were now ripping it down the middle. Your mother returned home later that evening, knocking on your bedroom door.
She peeked her head in, her heart breaking as she saw you staring at the picture that you had of you and Elvis as kids. You were happier then, the fame and the women didn’t exist. He only had you and you had him, but things were different now. “He’s leaving after the new year, baby. He told me to tell you that he loved you and that he hopes you’ll be waiting for him when he returns.” You turned your head, eyes glazed over with tears as you shakingly sobbed. “I don’t think he will want me when he comes back, mama. I think we are over.”
She sighed as she entered your room, sitting next to you on your bed before pulling you into her arms. “If it is meant to be, baby. If it’s meant to be, he will come back to you. You know that.” You shook your head as you sobbed in her arms. She didn’t say anything else, only holding you until you fell asleep in her arms. She was your comfort and she had always been, even when Elvis was around. As time ticked closer to Elvis’ departure, you would avoid him. You wouldn’t return his calls; you were in so much pain that you couldn’t bear to hear his voice. You would even turn the radio when you heard his songs playing. It was as if you were completely shutting him off from you, distancing yourself from him as much as you could.

It was finally time for Elvis to ship out to Germany. Your mother was on the phone with Gladys as she cried over the fact that her son was leaving. You would listen behind the door, sobbing quietly as you knew that it was the beginning of the end. The love of your life was leaving and you were so out of it that you didn’t spend as much time as you wanted with him. Your mother called for you, opening the door to the kitchen before handing you the phone. “Elvis wants to talk to you.” You shook your head, pushing the handle of the phone away from you.
“Baby, please. Talk to him. He has something he wants to say.” You sighed, taking the phone from her hands as you put it up your ear. “Elvis?” Your voice shook with so much emotion that nothing else could pass your lips but his name. “Satnin, I know you’ve been avoiding me. I know why, but I want ya to know that I really meant what I said. I’m gonna marry ya when I come home, so please…wait for me.” You could hear his sniffles, your heart breaking all over again as you nodded your head. “I’ll wait for you Elvis. I’ll try to wait for you.” Elvis told you that he loved you for one last time before the phone hung up.
You placed the phone back on the hook, sobbing in your hands as he was gone. He was gone and he would be gone for a while, but you were still consumed with the pain that it would be all over. You could only deal with the pain as you always had, taking shifts at the diner, where you would run into Charlie. As time went on, you would lean on Charlie to take the pain of Elvis’ absence away, eventually going on a few dates with him.
You thought nothing would come out of it, only taking him up on his offer because you were lonely. A year into Elvis’ deployment, you were suddenly engaged to be married. Charlie had become a favorite of your mother, always bringing flowers to the house when he would pick you up for your dates. You thought that your mother would be ashamed that you were cheating on Elvis, but she would tell you that maybe this was for the best. After all, Elvis was across the world and he was even far away even when he was in Memphis.
Your mother approved of Charlie, noticing how he treated you wonderfully. The wedding planning was done by your mother; she would ensure that her little girl had the most memorable day of her life. You wish you could say that it would be memorable, but you were guilty that the man that you were marrying wasn’t Elvis. Your mother would still keep in contact with Gladys, gushing about the upcoming nuptials between you and Charlie.
You knew that Gladys would tell Elvis, but you knew that he would be powerless to stop it. Besides, you heard from Gladys that Elvis had met a girl in Germany and that he was spending all of his time with her. Gladys sounded regretful over the phone, apologizing profusely that she hoped that it didn’t ruin your big day. You knew that Gladys wasn’t telling you the news because she didn’t care about you. It was quite the opposite, she wanted you to know that you weren’t in the wrong for finding your own happiness.
However, happiness didn’t exist in your world without Elvis in it. The wedding day went by in a blur; you couldn’t even remember your wedding dress, the champagne, or the wedding cake. Charlie was a wonderful man, but he would be gone for weeks on end due to his business. It was as if you were destined to be alone; your husband flying to different states for conferences and meetings and your childhood sweetheart was stationed on the other side of the world with another woman who easily took your place. You were alone, being the dutiful housewife that you could only imagine being while married to Elvis. You would cook for your husband whenever he was home, making sure that the house remained tidy and clean. But no matter how much you played into the role of being someone else’s wife, your mind would always linger to Elvis.
It wasn’t easy for you to continue on with the marriage, but you forced yourself to do so. Time would continue to go by; the days growing closer to when Elvis would return back from Germany. You didn’t know how you could face him, knowing that he would be betrayed that the woman that claimed to love him was now married to someone else. Elvis would finally return home from the Army, glowing with excitement as he was welcomed warmly. You watched on your television on the day of his arrival, fans beaming with happiness and crying that their beloved idol was finally back safely. You wish you were there, wanting nothing more than to wrap your arms around him, kissing him again. He had returned more handsome than ever, his jawline being more prevalent than the way you remembered.
As you watched his press conference, you sobbed at his cheekiness, knowing that he used to act the same way with you. You were still in love with him, not wanting to accept the cruel reality of it all. You figured that if you would revolve your world around your marriage to Charlie, you could forget how much you did love him. Charlie could sense that you weren’t the same, often forgoing sleeping in the same room as you because he didn’t like how you kept him awake at night as you sobbed in your pillow, hoping that he didn’t hear. The marriage didn’t last long, you couldn’t bear continuing to lie that you loved Charlie. “I can’t continue lying to you, Charlie. I want a divorce.” Charlie wasn’t shocked, shaking his head as he forced a smile on his face.
“It’s Elvis, isn’t it? Your mother told me all about your story with him. I can’t say I’m not surprised, but I also can’t say that I’m not disappointed that I can’t even keep my wife away from him.” You knew he was right, every woman in the world wanted him. You were no exception. The only difference between you and those women was that you had history with Elvis, the kind of history that these women could only dream about. The divorce was grueling but oddly smooth. Charlie didn’t want anything from you and neither did you with him. Charlie would tell you that you could still be friends, packing up his things as he decided that he would move back to Chicago with his family.
Your mother moved in with you shortly after the divorce was finalized, helping keep a roof over your head as the divorce was a burden on your finances. Here you were again, alone and on the verge of losing everything that you have but you couldn’t lie to yourself that the only thing that got you through was Elvis. Your mother would tell you that you should forget about him, the only thing that your relationship with him gave you was heartbreak. “Mama, I can’t forget about him. I love him and I know he still loves me too. We literally have so many memories together, you can’t forget about decades of loving each other.” You decided that you would face him again, after all, he was your best friend before anything else. Your mother, a little weary about the whole situation, ultimately agreed as she phoned Vernon to see if Elvis was settled in. Gladys, Elvis’ beloved mother had passed away almost two years ago, which had broken your heart completely.
She was like another mother to you, someone you would talk to when missing Elvis had become too much to ignore. You knew that Elvis knew that you were still in contact with his family, but he never reached out to you. How could he? You had sworn that you would wait for him, yet, you married Charlie and ultimately became the girl who had broken his heart. People knew that there was a girl who had gotten away while he was away, but he played it off to the media as if there were no such thing. The least you could have done was apologize to him, even beg him to believe that you still loved him. Vernon told your mother that Elvis was home, resting for a couple of weeks before he picked up where he had left off. You didn’t waste any time, the following day, you made the frightening journey to Graceland. Graceland hadn’t changed since the last time you were there, in fact, it was still as beautiful as it was when you had left.
His Uncle Vestor was surprised to see you, pulling you into a hug as he held a look of relief that you weren’t one of those fans who would try to push by him for a look at their idol. “Y/N, my word. You haven’t aged a day, you still look just as beautiful as you always have.” Your face heated up at the compliment, eyes traveling past him to look at the mansion that sat beautifully behind the gates. “I’m here to see Elvis, Uncle Vestor. Can you let me in?” He nodded happily, pressing the button which allowed the gates to open. Your heart flipped in your chest, knowing that the time was finally here. You were going in with no perception about how your reunion with Elvis would go, but you wanted him to at least hear you out first. As your car pulled up the long road, your heartbeat was the only thing that you could hear. You know there’s a chance that Elvis wouldn’t want to see you again, so why are you here? Your thoughts questioned your decision as you exited the car, seeing Vernon standing at the door with a small smile on his face.
“Little dancer, how are ya?” Vernon pulled you into a hug, a knowing look across his face as he knew that you would be coming. “I’m doing alright, my mother sends her love. Does he know that I’m here?” Vernon stopped in his tracks, staring into your brown eyes before shaking his head. “I haven’t told him, he hasn’t done anything but linger around the house and play around with his friends. He hasn’t left his room yet today.” You sighed, dread settling in the pit of your stomach as Vernon led you inside of the house. He pointed up the stairs before leaving you standing alone in the foyer. Maybe you should leave. You’re nothing to him now but a stranger, let’s leave it the way that it is. You ignored your thoughts, slowly making your way up the stairs, playing multiple scenarios in your head as you followed where you knew he would be. You stood in front of his door, your heart racing at this point.
Part of you wanted to turn around and run out of the house, knowing that what you did was unforgivable. However, the other part of you deserved to explain to him that you had never intended to hurt him. You were living with so much guilt that your marriage didn’t last, so you could say that karma had paid you a visit. You knocked on the door, hearing shuffling from behind it before the man that you thought about night and day stood before you. The pictures in the newspaper and the conference on the television did no justice; he was still as handsome as ever. His eyes widened with surprise as he pulled you into his arms, not sure if he was dreaming that you were standing in front of him. You wrapped your arms around him, rubbing his back as you heard little sniffles passing his beautiful lips.
“Satnin. You–What are you doin’ here?” You looked up at him, tears glistening in your eyes as you studied his features. You were memorizing every part of him, not wanting to forget how he made you feel. “I wanted to come see how you were doing. I’m sorry for not coming earlier, it was a lot happening all at once.” Charlie didn’t mind that you had a relationship with his family, even being supportive when you decided to go to Gladys’ funeral with your mother. You didn’t stay long, being in the same room as Elvis was too much for you to handle.
“I saw you at mama’s funeral, but you were gone before I could collect myself and talk to ya.” Elvis’ eyes shifted with the pain that you saw two years ago, but he masked it with a smile. “I didn’t want to ruin the mood, it wasn’t my intention to leave you alone. I only felt like you needed to be surrounded by the people who you loved.” Elvis’ face turned into a look of disbelief, taken back by your words. “You could never ruin the mood, Satnin. Don’t ya know that you’re the only person that I needed? I had already lost ya to Charlie, but you weren’t thinkin’ about me, were ya?” You knew that this was coming, the conversation switch to your marriage to Charlie was something that you always knew you had to have with him. “I was thinkin’ about not causing a scene at your mother’s funeral, Elvis. There is a place and a time to talk about us and it was not the place nor the time to talk about it while you were mourning the loss of Gladys.”
Elvis removed his hands from your waist, raising them above his head as the disbelief turned into borderline anger. “And what if you never came back? Would we have talked then?!” You stepped back slightly as your eyes turned to the ground. You knew he was right, he knew that you were avoiding him, but it still didn’t make it right that you left him alone when he needed you the most. “Did ya know how much I needed ya?! I needed ya and you could only think about yourself! I’m not surprised, you were always this way! You married another man while I was away in Germany because that’s what ya do! To hell with all the others. To hell with me, right?!”
Elvis turned away from you, stalking away into his room. You followed him, grabbing him by the arm before turning him to face you. “I didn’t know that you felt that way, Elvis! You never communicate with me about how you are feeling! I know that I was wrong for marrying Charlie, I know I promised you that I would wait. But when your mama told me that you were seeing another woman, I could only think about how you were forgetting about me! Forgetting about what we had! Yes, I married Charlie because I was hurt beyond belief. I was hurt and I made an irrational decision that caused me to lose you forever but I’m sorry for not waiting for you.”
Elvis didn’t want to hear your excuses, snatching his hand out from your grasp. “You’re sorry? Sorry?! I LOVED YOU, Y/N! I have always loved you and yet you make everything about yourself. Did you ever stop and think how losing you made me feel?!” You were beginning to get angry at this point, but you knew that once Elvis’ temper started, there was no stopping him. “Elvis! I’m not making anything about myself, it has always been about you! I’ve always made decisions in my life surrounding you! This was the first time in my life that I have ever made a decision about me! How could you even think for one second that I haven’t thought about losing you?”
Elvis placed his hands on his hips as he leaned in to you, sizing you up under his cerulean hues. “You know that’s a damn lie, Satnin. You made this decision because you didn’t wanna wait. You heard that I was seeing another girl so you wanted to hurt me. Come to think about it, you used to want to be married to me! You always wanted to be married and so to get what you wanted, you picked some random joe from the street so you didn’t have to wait.” Your heart was slowly ripping apart at his words, your thoughts that you pushed in the back of your mind returning to the surface.
He’s right, you didn’t wanna wait on him. You married Charlie because you couldn’t wait for two measly years to marry him.
“That’s not true. It’s true that I married Charlie because you were with someone else. But that was it, I swear to you, Elvis. I thought that our relationship was over. Mama and Gladys knew that I would sit here and wait on you while you were off across the world doing everything that you wanted! I left you before you could leave me!” You screamed, tears streaming down your face. “But I still loved you! I still love you! I have always loved you and I don’t think I could ever stop loving you. It killed me to look at you, to hear your voice because I couldn’t stop thinking about you. I would cry at night so much that Charlie couldn’t even bear sleeping next to me at night. We divorced because of how much I love you! So, how could you even say that?!” Elvis chuckled under his breath, shaking his head. “You’re something else, you know that? You divorced your husband and now you think that we can just pick up where we left off?”
“No, that’s not what I’m saying-” Elvis put his hand up, stopping you from speaking before he took a breath. “I’m gonna stop ya right there, baby. There is no picking up where we left off, there is no us anymore.” Your heart broke immediately after hearing his words, not sure why you were surprised because you knew there was no longer you and him. “I’m getting married. So, I don’t know why you’re explaining yourself to me. I don’t even know why you’re here, you could have continued on with your life as if we had never met.”
“Elvis, I-.” Your voice quivered with sadness, reaching out to take his hand before he stepped away from you. “As far as I’m concerned, I’ve never existed in your life. It was nice to see ya again, Y/N. I hope to never see ya again.” He took you by the hand, jerking you towards his bedroom door before pushing you across the threshold. He gave you one more look of condensation before slamming the door in your face. You pounded on the door, tearfully screaming out his name but you were unheard.

You found out that he was marrying the woman that he had met in Germany. His engagement traveled fast around the world as you and the fans alike were heartbroken. You didn’t know why you were heartbroken, it was your fault. You had hurt him, you knew that. You just couldn’t wrap your head around the fact that Elvis didn’t want to see you again. He was your best friend, the only one who understood you. For months, you would hole up in your room. The only thing that you could do was cry, the look in his eyes tormenting you for days on end. Your mother would try to get you to leave your room, but you could never bring yourself to look at her because you didn’t want her to see you crumble into despair at the sight of Elvis parading his fiance around for you to see. “Baby, you did all that you could. Maybe, it wasn’t meant to be with Elvis.” She would tell you, but you didn’t want to think such things could turn out as bad as it has.
Elvis would marry his fiance the following Spring, the thought of seeing him happily with her tore your heart over and over again. As the new year came around, you decided that you would wish him well. You sat at your kitchen table, deciding to write him a letter instead of showing your face to him again. You couldn’t bear the thought of him turning his back on you as he did months ago, not wanting to experience that type of pain again. Once the letter was finished, you placed it in your mailbox, sending your heart right along with it, hoping that he would at least hear you out one last time before he was no longer yours. Yours? How hysterical. As the time neared for his wedding, you didn’t hear anything from him. You weren’t shocked that he didn’t write back, after all, he was still mad at you for leaving him. You decided to find a new job as the hours at the diner weren’t doing much for you. The new job at the boutique paid well and you still had time to be at home with your family.
You didn’t date, not quite ready to love someone else. You were happy with how things were in your life, even though you weren’t quite happy with the things that were happening in your personal life. You could at least be happy that Elvis was happy with his life. He made a couple movies and put out a couple of songs. You supported him from afar as you always had, knowing this was all that you could do. Now that spring time had finally arrived and his wedding was happening in the next couple of days, you were thoroughly anxious about it as if it was your wedding.
The invitation to his wedding sat on your bed, mocking you that it wasn’t you that he wasn’t getting married to. You would think about how you wished that when you opened it, it stated your name instead of hers. You had given up on the thought long ago that you would ever marry him, but it would return as the days ticked by. “Are you going to the wedding, mama?” You asked your mother, placing the invitation in her hands as she looked over it. “If you don’t want me to, I won’t. But, I think you should at least go to wish him happiness. You were friends once, Y/N. This childish game that you’re playing with him needs to end.”
You hated to say that she was right. You were thinking of yourself, something that Elvis had said when you two had that argument a year ago. Elvis was right, you didn’t think about how he felt when you married Charlie. You didn’t think about him when you had shown up on his doorstep expecting him to take you back and you weren’t thinking about him now when you thought about not making an appearance at his wedding. “You’re right, mama. I should go to wish him happiness. After all, that’s all I’ve ever wanted for him, to be happy.”
The memories of following him to the studio appeared in your mind, seeing his happy face as he sang his heart out was the answer that you needed to attend. The day finally arrived, you and your mother pulled into the parking lot of the church where the wedding was being held. You could see Vernon standing at the door, a tux adorning his body as he spoke with the priest who stood beside him. Your mother pulled you to the side before you could walk inside, noticing that something was off.
“It looks like Vernon is upset about something. Why don’t you go see what it is about? I’m gonna go talk with Minnie Mae.” You nodded your head as you parted ways with your mother, walking over to where Vernon was. “Hey Vernon, is everything alright?” Vernon turned his face away from the priest, smiling at you nervously before shaking his head. “Elvis is talking about calling off the wedding. I haven’t been able to get in contact with him all morning, I was gonna ask ya if you had seen him.” Your eyebrows raised, shaking your head as you didn’t know where he was.
The priest would leave you alone with Vernon as your mind ran with thoughts about where he could be. “I haven’t talked to him since that day at the house, are you sure he said he wanted to call off the wedding?” Vernon nodded, the look of sadness covering his features as he opened his mouth to speak. “He’s been havin’ cold feet all week. He left last night after going on and on about how he didn’t want to marry Maryanne, that it didn’t feel right. I thought maybe he was speakin’ out of his ass, but he sounded real serious about calling the wedding off.”
You covered your mouth, worried that something had happened to him. “We should go find him, lord knows where he is!” You handed the keys to your car to him. Vernon nodded his head as he followed behind you, you looked over at your mother who was watching you with a smile on her face. “Mama! We’re going to go find Elvis! Stay here with Grandma Dodger!” She waved you off, taking Minnie Mae by the hand. “We’ll be alright, sugar! Go find our boy.” Dodger replied, whispering to your mother as they walked inside of the church. Since there wouldn’t be a wedding, they might as well wait around for Elvis to come back to tell everyone. Vernon peeled out of the parking lot, you looking out of the window as you searched for anyone who looked similar to Elvis.
He wasn’t at any of the places that you thought he would be, seemingly becoming defeated at the thought that he would show his face. “Do you think he’s at Gladys’ grave, Vernon?” Vernon looked over with you with a look of realization that the cemetery where she was buried would be the last place he could be. Vernon didn’t say a word, driving towards the cemetery, your heart beating loud against your ears as you played with your hands. Hold on, Elvis. I’m coming. Vernon pulled your car into the cemetery, immediately seeing Elvis sitting in front of Gladys’ grave. “He’s here, Y/N. This damn boy.” You didn’t wait for Vernon to put the car in park, immediately getting out of the car as you raced between graves to get to him.
Elvis looked up at you, tears streaming down his face as he stood up from where he sat. “Elvis! Where have you been? Your family has been worried sick, you’re talking about canceling the wedding and you didn’t show up. Are you-?” Elvis didn’t give you the chance to finish, wrapping his arms around your waist as he pulled you into him. He was full on crying at this point, holding on to your body as if you would go away. “I couldn’t marry her. I can’t marry her, Satnin. I don’t love her.” He sobbed in your neck, the words almost blending together as he spoke. “Elvis, you can’t just leave everyone wondering where you are either. If you can’t marry her, that’s fine. You just can’t worry everyone to death either.”
He pulled his head out from your neck, looking down at you as he shook his head. “I’m sorry for worrying you, Satnin. I-I just can’t marry her. I don’t love her, I can’t marry someone that I don’t love.” You placed your hands on his cheeks, wiping the tears from his eyes with your thumbs. “Baby, that’s okay. But, you have to tell her. You have to tell her why you can’t commit to her, I’m sure she will understand.” He looked like the boy that you fell for all those years ago, his boyish eyes looking over you as he told you on the porch of his house that he wanted to be with you. “I told her that I couldn’t marry her because it wouldn’t be right. That I would be making a huge mistake by not marrying the woman that I love. I love you, Y/N. I ain’t ever stopped lovin’ ya and I don’t think I could go through being married to another woman when I love ya so damn much.” At that moment, he pressed his lips to yours in a heated kiss.
Your eyes glassed over with tears as you returned his embrace, holding him tightly against your body as your lips moved with his. Your heart jumped in your chest, the butterflies fluttered in the pit of your stomach as you realized that he still loved you. Elvis Presley still loved you and you still loved him. You weren’t going to lose him to another woman and you were happy about it. He pulled away from you, his eyes searching yours as he caressed your cheek with his thumb. “Satnin, I’ve put this on hold long enough. I can’t imagine being with nobody else but you. I’m sorry for everything that I said, I-I didn’t mean it. I didn’t mean it, baby. After you left, I haven’t been the same. I’m crazy about ya, Y/N. I love ya, more than I’ve ever loved anybody in my life. Will–Will ya marry me, baby?” He pulled out a black box, opening it to reveal a diamond ring. “I know I’m askin’ ya too late, I should have asked ya to marry me before I left for Germany but I couldn’t get in touch with ya.” You placed your finger on his lip as your tears flowed down your cheeks. “That’s okay, Elvis. I’m sorry too, I should have waited for you. It wasn’t fair to you that I went and married someone else, not when I still loved you for so long.”
Elvis placed his hand on your wrist, pulling your hand down to rest into his. “I’m not blaming ya for marrying Charlie. I should have made you my wife before he did though.” You giggled, squeezing his hand before you looked into his eyes. “Yes, Elvis. I’ll marry you.” His eyes lit up with happiness as he slid the ring on your finger. It fit as if it was meant to, glistening under the Memphis sun. “I’ve had this ring stashed away for the perfect time, but time went by so fast that I didn’t realize that it was always supposed to be you that I marry.” He wrapped his arms around you once more, hugging you tightly against his body before he kissed your cheek happily.
Vernon stood by the car, a huge smile on his face as he watched you with Elvis. “Alright, you two! We’ve gotta get back to the church to let everyone know that there won’t be a wedding today!” Elvis looked at Vernon, a mischievous smile crossing his face as he shook his head. “Who said?” Your eyes widened as you looked at Elvis. “We can’t get married today, I don’t have anything planned. I have no dress, we haven’t told everyone.”
Elvis only smiled down at you, taking you by the hand as he led you over to your car. “We don’t need any of that baby, if you need a dress, we can stop and get you one. I’m marrying you today. I can’t wait any longer.” You groaned inwardly, knowing that you couldn’t deter Elvis from getting what he wanted. However, you were overjoyed that you would be the one that he was marrying today.
He stayed true to his word, stopping at a dress boutique, letting you pick the wedding dress that you wanted before he whisked you away to the church where his family and your mother waited. Your mother walked over to you, pulling you into her arms. “You look beautiful, baby.” You pulled away from her, knowing that she knew all along that Elvis had this planned. “How long did you know?” She laughed softly, taking you by the hand as she squeezed it. “Your whole life, honey. Elvis called me one day when you were at work, apologizing like a fool. He told me that he couldn’t marry that girl, not when he loved you as much as he does.”
You looked over at Elvis with adoration in your eyes as he stared at you, his tux sitting nicely on his body. Although this was supposed to be a wedding for him and another woman, you could only think about how lucky you were that the feelings were still there for you and for him. “Go on baby, go and marry the man that you love.” Elvis walked inside of the church, his family looking on in confusion because he was late and seemed to be a bit anxious. “I’m sorry everyone for the tardiness, I had to think about some things. There won’t be a wedding today between me and Maryanne. I couldn’t go through with it, knowing that I would be breaking the heart of the woman that I truly love.” There were murmurs throughout the church, his family looking around to see if Maryanne would show her face.
“You all know about Y/N. She’s been my best friend since I was a child, we promised each other that we would marry each other. Of course, things happened. But, I decided that I couldn’t go on without her. I’m marrying her today, so I wanted to give my apologies for keeping ya waiting.” His family clapped their hands, glad that there was going to be a wedding and that he was marrying you. “About time you made a wife out of her, son.” Uncle Vestor spoke over the cheers, getting a laugh from everyone around him. He walked up to the altar, beside the priest as he waited for you. Your mother stood at the door of the church, holding you by the hand as you walked inside. You knew that there was no planning on your end, but you didn’t care because you were finally marrying Elvis.
Tears streamed down your cheeks as your eyes watched Elvis, tears streaming down his cheeks as he watched you walk down the aisle towards him. His family stood in awe, smiles gracing their faces as they nodded their approval of how beautiful you looked. Minnie Mae leaned into your direction, pressing a kiss to your cheek as she smiled with tears in her eyes. “You look beautiful, baby girl. You make my boy happy, I’m so glad that you’re gonna be his wife.” You sniffled, wrapping your arms around her as you hugged her tightly. “Gladys would be thrilled to see that her son is marrying the woman that she chose for him.” You thought about how much Gladys would want to be there, beaming happily as you continued walking towards Elvis.
“Alright then, there is a wedding! Who gives this woman to be lawfully wedded to this man?” You looked over at your mother, who looked at the priest before looking back at you. She was holding her handkerchief in her hand, sobbing into the material before shakingly speaking. “I am, thank the lord. I am.” The church roared with laughter as she placed your hand into Elvis’. “Take care of my baby, Elvis. She’s been waiting and praying to be your wife since she was a child. You two belong together.” Elvis nodded his head at your mother, wrapping an arm around her as he kissed the top of her head. “Yes, ma’am. I’ll take care of her as long as I live.” You sniffled at the interaction between him and your mother, looking up at him as he stared down at you with love in his eyes.
“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here to witness the beautiful union of Y/N L/N and Elvis Aron Presley.” The priest would begin his speech, but all you could focus on was the man in front of you. He was finally yours, nothing stood in between you as your union was finally becoming one. The vows were beautiful, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room as you went through your own words of how much you loved Elvis, how much you waited and prayed that he would make an honest woman out of you. “Before God and everyone who has attended, I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss your bride, son.” The priest said, stepping back as Elvis leaned down, pressing his lips on yours. Your new family clapped happily, cheering at the sight of Elvis finally marrying the woman that he loved.

The gathering after the wedding was simply beautiful; the mixture of your mother and your new family was as you always imagined. This time, you took the time to reflect on the wedding dress, the champagne, and even the elegant wedding cake. Just as promised, your first dance was to My Happiness, bringing memories to the surface of him recording the tune at Sun Records. Everything was different than the first time, but you felt as if you were married for the first time. That night, you had returned to Graceland; your new home. Returning there was so poignant, not forgetting that you rushed out those doors heartbroken that your now husband turned you away. However, Elvis welcomed you with such warm arms as he carried you over the threshold of the same room that he once pulled you away from. He took you in his arms as he danced with you as he sang into your ear.
Gently, your eyes met mine
Tender, trusting, and true
Gently, your hand took mine
Thrilled me through and through
Gently, oh so gently
Gentle as the dawn
Gently, oh so gently
Our true love was born
You were truly blown away that your dream of becoming Mrs. Presley had come true. It was all that you wanted, and now it was on this day, that you were reunited with Elvis and that your long-lived love had blossomed like a beautiful tulip on a spring day. His cerulean hues looked deeply into your brown eyes with nothing but love as he placed you, his bride on your marital bed. You caressed his cheeks with your hands as his soft lips pressed against yours gently. As your wedding dress was shed from your body, tears lingering on your face, you were reminded that he had always loved you. The anger that once brewing in his eyes had also had the hint of love, you wish that you could have seen it clearly. “You have no idea how much I’ve wanted to take ya like this, Satnin.” You whimpered with so much emotion as you pushed his jacket off of his shoulders. Elvis kissed all over your body, leaving no part of it untouched. You hurriedly unbuttoned his shirt, pulling it off of his torso as you took in his body.
You had only seen his torso a few times before, Elvis not wanting to make love to you then, only promising that he would do so when you were his wife. The time was finally here, you were excited and so was he. His fingers pulled your bra straps down off your shoulders, the heat of your skin causing goosebumps to arise as he tenderly rubbed your skin. Your bronze complexion was glowing even under the little light that was in the room. Once your bra was off of your body and thrown somewhere that you didn’t care to know, he moved his lips down your chest as his hands cradled your breasts.
You moaned out slightly, carding your fingers through his hair as your mind screamed for him to take you. His trousers and underwear were next, pooled on the floor with your dress. Suddenly, he was inside of you slowly but with such need. The moans that bounced off of the walls were like music to your ears, remembering all of those times that you would be in his room at nights when your mother and his parents were off in the other room. He would pet your body, whispering how much he couldn’t wait to make you his.
His thrusts were sending your soul out of your body, pants and moans passing his lips as he held on to your hands. “Elvis.” You moaned as he sped up his hips, grunting in your ear in the process. “I’m gonna show you how much I missed ya. That you had always deserved to be mine.” Your head was thrown back in ecstasy as you returned his gaze, nodding your head. Elvis placed your legs around his hips as his thrusts continued pounding into you, hitting spots that you never had touched. “The first thing I’m gonna do is give you a baby. Our baby is gonna look like me, but have your eyes.” He moaned into your ear, causing a sob to pass your lips. The coil in your stomach was pulling, heat pooling over your body as you cried out in pleasure. Elvis continued to grunt, pushing himself in and out of you with such love that your body melted into the sheets beneath you.
“I love you, Y/N Presley. Oh, God. I love you so much.” Elvis cried out as he fucked you into an orgasm. You cried out loudly, holding on to his hands tightly as your legs shook around his waist. He roared shortly after, spilling inside of you as his hips shook with pleasure and from adrenaline as he fucked himself through his orgasm. He let go of your hands only for a second as he laid beside you, pulling you into his arms. You looked up at your husband, smiling softly as he looked down at you with love in his eyes.
All of the waiting, crying, and pining led up to this moment finally being in his arms, never to leave again. He made true to his promise, you were pregnant soon after. Your daughter was born the following year, bringing you and him closer together. You would tell stories to your daughter about how you and your father’s love withstood him moving away from Shake Rag to Memphis, you marrying another man while he was away in Germany, and even him almost marrying Maryanne. Nothing could have been better when the following year, you were pregnant with his son.
Elvis was such a great father and husband, like you always knew he would be. He spoiled his wife and his children as years went on, his career skyrocketing with him performing at his comeback special in 1968. You and your children followed him everywhere, not wanting to be away from him at any moment. Your love was idolized by every fan, learning that you were indeed the girl that had once gotten away, but not for long. The life that you were promised when you held Elvis all those years ago back at Shake Rag was better than you could have imagined. You were happy; there were no more tears, no more pining, and no more waiting for you because you had your mother and you had Elvis. Who said that the love affair would end when you said I do?

A Marriage Story Inside the making of the brilliant, moving first 10 minutes of Pixar’s ‘Up’ By Alan Siegel Jun 14, 2022
Ahead of the release of Lightyear, The Ringer is hosting Pixar Week—a celebration of the toys, rats, clown fish, and more that helped define one of the greatest studios of the 21st century. At the heart of the occasion is the Best Pixar Character Bracket, a cutthroat tournament to determine the most iconic figure of them all. Check back throughout the week to vote for your favorite characters and read a selection of stories that spotlight some of Pixar’s finest moments. To infinity … and beyond!
Pixar’sPixar’s Up was inspired by a single image: a house with balloons tied to its roof floating into the sky, far away from the burden of daily life. “It seemed freeing and aspirational, something everyone wants at some point,” director Pete Docter says in an email. “Getting away from everything, in the comfort of your own house—that’s where we started.”
But Docter knew that one good idea wasn’t enough to make a whole movie. During the 2009 animated film’s development, he and codirector Bob Peterson landed on making their protagonist a grumpy old man named Carl Fredricksen—it made sense that a widowed balloon salesman would want an escape. Still, that didn’t explain his mode of transportation. “Where was he going?” Docter says. “And why couldn’t he take a plane?”
The animators knew that Carl would need a backstory to answer those questions. They decided to tell it with a prologue that details the character’s life from his childhood to his golden years. But these early scenes reveal that Up isn’t only about Carl—it’s also about his relationship with his wife, Ellie. They’re kids when she bursts into his life with a shock of red hair and a passion for exploration, and the interaction leads to a deeply felt, lifelong connection.
I remember Pete saying Ellie was the spirit of adventure,” director of photography (camera) Jean-Claude Kalache says. Indeed, the two characters bond by spending time in the abandoned shack that Ellie has fashioned into a clubhouse. While visiting Carl one evening, she shows him “My Adventure Book,”in which she illustrates her dream: to one day travel to the mythical Paradise Falls. She even makes Carl swear that he’ll take her (and her clubhouse) there. In a flash, Up snaps into a montage of their life together: the two pals fall in love, get married, buy what was once Ellie’s hideaway and turn it into a home of their own. But as they age together and life grows more complicated, their bucket-list trip becomes more and more elusive. Then, it’s too late. “We figured the best way to make the audience understand—and care—would be to connect his house to a relationship, and unfinished business,” Docter says. “We worked hard to visually train the audience to associate the house with his wife, and the unkept promise of an adventure in South America.”
The opening of Up, however,is more than just a narrative device. The movie-within-a-movie is as emotionally heavy as Carl’s helium-lifted house is buoyant. It is, without a doubt, one of the most moving film sequences of the past 20 years. “It’s the heart of the movie,” says director of photography (lighting) Patrick Lin. “I remember seeing it for the first time and, of course, crying. Actually, three times throughout production.”
It’s cliché to point out that Pixar is excellent at making children’s movies that appeal to adults. But the amount of humor, romance, sadness, dazzling visuals, and entrancing music packed into such a short stretch is startling even for a studio whose creative success was built on a mix of all of those things. The beginning of Up elevates a form that the company had already taken to new heights. “Animation is capable of so much more than we give it credit for—we tend to think of animation as just fart jokes made for kids,” Docter says. “Granted, that does describe a lot of it, but animation can do anything!”
The opening of Up lasts only about 10 minutes, but it didn’t start out so short. “With most of our stuff, we overwrote that opening like crazy,” says Docter, who also directed Pixar’s Monsters, Inc., Inside Out, and Soul. “I would guess we had 30 to 40 minutes of material that we slowly whittled down.”
The sequence can be broken into two parts: the first, Carl and Ellie’s childhood adventures; and the second, their marriage. But before they can get hitched, Ellie and Carl have to meet. And before that, Carl needs to be introduced to the audience. The first shot of his younger self is in a movie theater, where he’s watching a Prohibition-era newsreel about his hero: the intrepid—but discredited—explorer Charles Muntz. The boy’s hair is a long way from graying, but he’s wearing his signature square-frame glasses. Right away, the movie’s unique visual style is apparent. Like most of the characters, Carl seems to be built from different blocks. “We used to say ‘chunkify,’ everything,” Kalache says. “If you look at Carl, his fingers are very, very big and stubby.”
With Up, Docter told Kalache that he wanted to try something different. “It slowly shaped itself into a very theatrical approach to lighting the movie where nothing mattered at the edge of the frame,” Kalache says. “It was all about the characters. It was about the expressions, the emotion, the performance.” Whether it’s Carl staring at the movie screen or Ellie interrogating Carl when he stumbles into her clubhouse, the camera stays glued to their expressive faces. From the outset, young Ellie’s adventurous spirit is on display; the filmmakers gave her a visible aura. “I remember saying, ‘How do we capture that in color?’” Kalache says. “So throughout the movie, even when Ellie is not there, we have her spirit, and we decided, ‘Let’s pick a color.’ And pink became that color.”
As soon as they meet, Ellie is pushing Carl to match her level of boldness. Literally, at first. After he accidentally lets go of his blue balloon—with the name of Muntz’s airship, “The Spirit of Adventure,” scribbled on it—she takes his hand and guides him to the attic where it’s drifted. Then she shoves him onto a single plank leading to his lost prize. Naturally, the board snaps in half when he takes a step and he falls and breaks his arm.
Voiced by Docter’s daughter Elie (with one “L”), Ellie makes it up to Carl by sending a blue balloon up through his bedroom window. This leads to her showing Carl her adventure bookand their vow to travel to Paradise Falls. At the end of their fateful visit, she climbs back out of the window. But before leaving, she pokes her head back up and says, “You know, you don’t talk very much. I like you.”
WithWith the pop of a balloon and the flash of a camera bulb, Carl and Ellie’s story jumps forward to their wedding. All of a sudden, the pace picks up and the film starts to feel like a home movie. “The camera doesn’t really start moving until after they get married,” Lin says. “And I would use a very gentle lateral camera movement of tracking and panning just to kind of say that, ‘OK, they’re going through life.’”
Originally, the montage had dialogue. But according to Docter, storyboard artist Ronnie del Carmen suggested that they should let composer Michael Giacchino’s piece, “Married Life,” do the talking. “Being [a] fan of silent films, I kept pushing to see how much we could take out, and discovered that it seemed like the less we had the more emotional it felt,” Docter says. “No dialogue, no sound effects—just music and visuals. It’s pretty tight. Every shot is a setup for elements we use later in the film.”
The “Married Life” section begins like a fairytale. Carl and Ellie work together at the zoo. They buy their house, renovate it, and give it the same multicolor paint job that Ellie had long ago envisioned. They picnic in the park, where they look up and see clouds shaped like turtles, flying elephants, and babies. Soon, they’re decorating a nursery with a stork mural and a mobile made of little dirigibles.
But then a slow camera pan to a darkened doctor’s office brings Up’sfirst profoundly emotional moment. Ellie is crying and Carl is resting his hands on her shoulders. A physician is explaining that she’s suffered a miscarriage. The next scene—Carl looking out the kitchen window at Ellie, who’s sitting on a chair in the yard, eyes closed, red hair blowing in the light wind—is crushing. And to the chunk of the audience that still considered Pixar to be nothing more than kids stuff, the sudden seriousness was legitimately shocking.

I sure do!
Tumblr media
Old Traditions, Werewolf Edition by Footloose
(1/1 I 3,601 I General I Sterek)
Stiles does not work his Omega ass off to attract frat boy Alphas. Absolutely not. He's at college to get his degree. If he's crushing on an Alpha who never crosses the lines of propriety, well, no one needs to know, right?
Acquiring Big Brothers and Boyfriends by iCheat
(1/? I 4,512 I Not Rated I Steter)
Only Stiles could adopt a WW2 veteran as his big brother. That would be fine on its own but between that, the werewolf climbing through his window, the ritual deaths and the Alpha pack there's a lot going on. Well, at least SHIELDs not involved. Yet.
Your Bruises Drive Me Insane by 100percentfluffster
(2/2 I 10,118 I Not Rated I Steter)
They always seemed to forget that Stiles was human. In some manners at least. Scott and Derek always went on about how he was too fragile to be helpful. That he was a liability and the weak link of the Pack, but that awareness of his fragility seemed to always disappear when it came to their own aggression.
A story of how Peter notices the way the Pack treats Stiles and does everything he can to step between Stiles and further harm.
(baby) maybe that matters more by lavenderlotion
(4/10 I 16,610 I Mature I Steter)
“Well, well, well,” drawls a familiar voice that Stiles hadn’t even considered he might ever hear again. “The token pack human, left all alone?”
Two Men and a Tree by CarryOnMySwanSong
(24/? I 55,634 I Explicit I Steter)
A catastrophic event leaves Stiles mobility impaired, both physically and magically. After a falling out with Derek and the rest of the wolves in Beacon Hills and Peter Saving Stiles from himself, Stiles and Peter take a road trip. They do not intend to come back. Instead, they build a Pack in Montana. They are gone for ten long years before Derek calls Peter, begging for his help. After they save the day, Peter and Stiles live out their days, changing the entire paranormal world for the better.
Baseball Bats and Sour Wolves by Erin1324
(55/? I 68,429 I Teen I Sterek)
Derek is cursed with some sort of spell, and for some reason only responds to Stiles as a result. He tries to attack everyone else, even his Alpha, he's also acting super overprotective of Stiles, hardly letting anyone get close to him.
Deep Green by aurevell
(14/14 I 93,992 I Teen I Steter)
Stiles steps out of his dream between one heartbeat and the next, finding himself alone in a dark wood. The sickly light of the moon, nearly full beyond the branches, spills onto the leaf-strewn ground. It illuminates splatters of mud on his pale ankles.
It’s the fourth time this month. “Fuck me,” he grumbles, and calls Lydia.
Stiles and Lydia are lots of things: lifelong latchkey kids, aspiring Ivy Leaguers, the terrors of Beacon Hills High, and inseparable best friends. But between Stiles’s sleepwalking and the voices in Lydia’s head, their grip on reality feels tenuous at best.
Enter Peter Hale, a charming (probable) serial killer who offers the answers they need—and the chance to be something more than what they are.
Can't rely on me by Littleredridinghunter
(12/12 I 116,206 I Not Rated I Sterek)
Gerard beats Stiles up, but it's a lot worse than anyone knows.
The pack let him down, that's not really a surprise lately.
When Danny finds Stiles nearly bleeding to death the next day it's the start of a beautiful friendship.
Can the pack make amends before it's too late? Will Stiles ever forgive them for not being there for him when he needed them the most?
Desolate by Vague_Shadows
(27/27 I 130,463 I Sterek)
Derek stops short the moment his eyes fall on the huddled mass in the corner. The beta lying crumpled there is trying desperately to make himself seem as small as possible and cover his most vulnerable areas. It takes Derek almost a full minute to realize who it is and another to realize that he’s wearing tattered, blood-stained remains of the clothes he disappeared in over four months ago. The acrid stench clinging to him tells such a vivid story of the atrocities he must have endured while he’s been missing that Derek thinks he might be sick.
“Stiles?” he asks in disbelief.
Settle Down by wearing_tearing, whatthehale
(19/19 I 153,181 I Explicit I Sterek)
Stiles is a struggling author barely making ends meet.
Derek is a successful architect whose biological clock is ticking.
Enter a surrogacy agency, two packs, and a particularly sticky and toe curling heat week and you get a match made in heaven.
Actions Speak Louder than Words by isthatbloodonhisshirt (wasterella)
(25/25 I 434,622 I Explicit I Sterek)
“I apologize.” The cop finally looked back up at his face, seeming thrilled. “It’s just—it’s been so long. And we finally have you.”
That was a bad word. Not found.
Have.
Stiles wrenched his hand free and took a step back, but before he could even think up a gameplan, he felt a prick in his neck and jerked away, reaching up to slap one hand against it and twisting in the same moment.
One of the others had come up behind him while he hadn’t been paying attention, and his vision began to swim even as his eyes caught sight of the half-empty syringe the guy was holding.

how do you think midoriya, bakugo and todoroki would react to their s/o saying that they don’t want kids or can’t have kids?
ANON, I LOVEEEEEED THINKING ABOJT AND ANSWERING THIS QUESTION.... and I hope this isn’t too much for you (it literally took me like 2 hours to write lmfao)!!!
I feel like all three of these boys would actually have this talk with you very early on, simply because they’d want you to know what it was meant to be with a hero who was busy all the time, so therefore you’d both already know that kids were a no-no… but in the case that you hadn’t discussed it…
Deku would be really understanding!
In all honesty, as much as I’m sure part of him wants to have kids, he probably gave up on that dream long before meeting you… not because he didn’t like the idea, but because he would value his job as a hero way too much to give it up all so he could raise some children.
His lifelong dream was always to be a hero, and since he inherited his powers from the literal, symbol of peace (also his #1 all-time favorite hero), Deku would already understand what that meant in regards to giving up most personal aspirations in order to save others.
Besides, with his father away most of the time and his mother having such an (accidental) effect on his self-esteem, he of all people knows what it’s like to have parents that don’t understand you, so I think he’d never be able to live with himself if he did the same to his children…
(Like for example if he had to miss important developmental stages of his kids’ lives all to fight villains, he’d never forgive himself… Similar to how he’d feel if he wasn’t there to save someone due to his own desire to be with his family.)
So if/when you told him kids were a no-go for you, he wouldn’t break a sweat. Probably hug you, cry, and thank you for telling him, but then he’d just go over everything I already mentioned to you here… and you’d both move on feeling a lot better.
(Plus, I kinda see him as the type to, like All Might, retire as a hero only to become a teacher... so he would get his dose of children eventually!!)
Bakugo I actually see right in the middle of Deku and Todoroki… as while I think he probably wouldn’t mind having “a brat or two,” if you told you that kids weren’t for you, I doubt he would really care all that much.
(He knows he isn’t the one having the actual pregnancy, so.....)
I doubt kids would even be on his mind for the most part, as I just think, because of his dedication to being a hero (especially since he’s always thrown himself into working toward #1), he’s the type who’d be too preoccupied with work to think about it, and/or want to get started on it pretty late, anyway, so as not to waste his prime.
Which is why, if you told him you didn’t want/couldn’t have children, it would really be no problem. Not only does it not even throw off his plans very much, he then also wouldn’t have to worry about giving up his career early or putting anyone extra in danger by being a dad... so it’s kinda a win-win for both of you.
Plus tbh, I see him as the type of husband to really honestly just want what you want, so if that means no kids, NO KIDS. He’s completely fine being Uncle Kacchan or whatever. You’re the fun aunt, anyway.
(Kirishima texted him at like 6am from Disneyland once and Bakugo just laughed lmfao)
As for Todoroki… as much as I love to think about him as the type to want an army of kids (due to his Todoroki genes)… I truly think that realistically, it’s equally likely, IF NOT MORE, that he wouldn’t want any at all.
Because of his traumatic childhood, espcially with what we’re seeing in the most recent chapters, he’d probably think that there are too many risks involved with having children, stemming from both his career as a hero and his familial trauma in how that would affect raising them properly.
Because he’s seen how having kids affected his own family (he was kind of the catalyst, after all)… He, of course, would want to ensure that there was never a day in which his kids ever felt unloved or separated from each other… but because of his line of work, would definitely struggle with feeling like he’d be able to achieve that without neglecting some aspect of his responsibility (similar to Deku, almost as if he had to choose between the two).
So I think if you were to tell him that kids weren’t an option for you, he would kinda just be relieved since it would mean that he wouldn’t have to actually battle with 1. trying to make up his mind about having them at all, and 2. risk being a bad parent all together…
I’m honestly kind of laughing thinking about you sitting him down all nervous trying to tell him that kids are off the table, and how he gets so, so, sooooo worried leading up to it… only for the whole conversation to be like:
You: I… don’t think we should have kids.
Todo: Um… that’s it? That’s all you wanted to say? *scratches head* Cool beans.
Dude is just fucking snoring at that reveal. He probably thought you were gonna tell him you have cancer or want to break up, but instead you just do him a favor. It’s all ends up being very anticlimactic (if not a relief for the both of you).
So yeah! None of them would really mind, I think! They’re all busy enough, plus, you’re their REAL baby, anyway LOL...
I hope this was alright💖💖🙈🙈

Roswell, New Mexico certainly knows how to raise the stakes. In the Season 3 premiere, Maria experienced a foreboding premonition that unfolded at a funeral, one that possibly placed Dr. Kyle Valenti in the casket. The Reaper came close to claiming Kyle after he was impaled and bleeding out -- until Max saved him. But then Kyle went missing.
Soon, Alex discovered Eduardo Ramos had been keeping a comatose Kyle tucked away safely, after someone had injected him with an unidentified drug. Now that Kyle is awake and back on his feet, he wants answers… but he might not like what he unearths.
Roswell, New Mexico star Michael Trevino recently spoke with CBR about Kyle's evolution, that funeral vision, the Valenti legacy and possibly directing an episode in Season 4.
CBR: After portraying a hybrid werewolf on Vampire Diaries, what was interesting about playing a normal human in Roswell, New Mexico?
Michael Trevino: It was just that. To be able to play a human, with these supernatural elements happening around you, that you are not necessarily part of, but you are there to reflect the human reaction of that. Being a part of Vampire Diaries, I was in that supernatural element. With this, I couldn't get too far away from it in my career, but it's about reacting to those things.
With Kyle Valenti, it's a role that is definitely more grounded for me, but hopefully, it is grounded for the audience. That's their character they can identify with. How would you react to being in Roswell, New Mexico, hearing about aliens, figuring out that they are around and live amongst you, and that perhaps there are more aliens out there?
Kyle could have been a local cop, a lawyer, a business owner. How happy are you that the writers have incorporated his medical/surgeon profession into the narrative?
Michael Trevino: For one, you figure with these aliens being around and anything going wrong with them, there would have to be some type of medical element. The whole lore of alien and alien autopsies, we need to have a character like that in Roswell. For me, to be a surgeon and then worked into everything that's happening with these three aliens in Roswell, it's big for Kyle.
This season, Maria experienced a funeral vision, and it seems to be Kyle's body in the casket. What were your thoughts on that development and what it meant for Kyle?
Michael Trevino: For me, Kyle seems to be the common thread throughout all the storylines. I'm really happy about that, being on this show and that the writers have done that. Although Kyle seems to be the one helping put out all the fires and he's there for everyone, being a good friend and doing whatever is asked of him, it would make sense that Maria is having these visions. Kyle might, or might not, have something to do with that. We are going to see that play out. Kyle is on everybody's minds. We are wondering what's going on with him. Where is he? That makes the most sense because he's there for everybody else.
The writers have "maliciously" teased and taunted viewers by continually putting Kyle in harm's way. Has that been part of the fun of this mystery, that "will they or won't they kill him" at any given moment?
Michael Trevino: It's safe to say that nobody is safe in Roswell. I do like that they've kept choosing Kyle to tease a bit. There's a warm spot for Kyle. He's a good guy. I watch the show and I'm like, "Damn. This guy is doing his best and trying to be there for everybody. It's a nice feeling."
Considering Kyle was painted as a dick in high school, there's been a lot of growth and evolution from him into a better person.
Michael Trevino: Yes, I believe this Episode 3.09 is a big turning point for Kyle. We find out a little bit more of his backstory. He's finding that out in real time. That can be frustrating. We see that emotion in Kyle. But this is finally where he takes a stand. He makes a hard decision. He's either going to go left or he's going to go right. He's carved out his path. "This is what I'm going to do. This is how I want things to be."
Moving forward, how focused is Kyle on uncovering the unknown assailant, who injected him with that paralytic drug, which left him bedridden?
Michael Trevino: Where we find him, he's reached his limit. He's been there for everybody, and he tries to put out fires. But, in this episode, he's really frustrated and it's kind of taken a toll on him. The last time we saw him, he was in a hospital bed in a barn. It's, "What is going on? What is happening?" He wants more answers. We are going to see him get those answers. But, then also, frustrated because, "Why me? Why is this happening?"
Kyle also learns some startling information about his father, the code that he lived by and more about that creepy little radio. How is Kyle unpacking all of this because it's a lot to take in?
Michael Trevino: He's trying his best to process everything he's discovering. But like anybody else, he has this idea of what the Valenti code is, of who Jim Valenti is, of who is his father. We are in season three. We've come to find out Kyle's father isn't who he really thought he was. That hurts. That's got to be shocking to his world. Very jarring. I feel that we see that in [Episode] 3.09. There's a bit of information that is given out that is very important and catapults Kyle for the remainder of this season.
What do you feel keeps Kyle in Roswell? He's had the opportunity to leave and work in other cities…
Michael Trevino: For Kyle, there might be some abandonment issues because of his father not being around. With that, he doesn't want to do the same thing to others. We've seen how vital he is, how important he is to what is going on in Roswell. He doesn't want to run away from that. And let's talk about the lifelong connection he has with Liz. He doesn't want to leave her not only in harm's way, but stuck with this mess. So, Kyle is choosing to stay and figure out what is really going on.
What else can you preview about what's in store for Kyle in the last block of episodes?
Michael Trevino: Kyle is going to have a lot more to do with what's going on in Deep Sky. He and Eduardo will become allies and work together, to do what they have to do, with Jones.
What was it like having original Roswell star Sherri Appleby direct some episodes, as well as Vampire Diaries creator Julie Plec and your former co-star, Paul Wesley?
Michael Trevino: Speaking to Sherri Appleby, it was nostalgic. She's one of the OGs for the original. To have her come on board and direct an episode -- even for her -- I think it's a full circle in her career. It was a blast to have her on set and be taking notes from her, just because of the connection she has to this story and these characters. Roswell is on the CW. It's on Warner Bros. television. It's a family I have been part of for over a decade. To work with Julie Plec and Paul Wesley, personally, is a great thing. As the years have gone on, our careers are expanding. It's a beautiful thing to watch. This business can be challenging. It can be tough. To see us all, striving to do the best that we can, is great.
You've aspired to step behind the camera. What's the appeal and are you going to get the chance in Season 4?
Michael Trevino: Being in this television world for so long, this is a machine. It takes so many people to produce one-hour of network-episodic television. Being on these sets as an actor has been great and a privilege, and I'm grateful for it, but I want to expand and do a bit more.
In telling these stories, I get very involved in the blocking of scenes or what's going to best service this story when we are in these scenes, doing rehearsals. I find myself figuring things out. I am interested in the camera moves. I am interested in where we are setting up lights. I am interested in everything. I want a shot at that.
After Season 3, I shot a short film in Albuquerque. That was my first time directing and it was such a great experience. I am in post-production on that. I've put it out there. I've spoken to producers. I can neither confirm nor deny if I am getting an episode this [upcoming] season. I'm hoping I will be.
You are on a superhero-heavy network. What are your thoughts on playing in that sandbox?
Michael Trevino: Marvel has obviously been top dog for some time, but DC has been doing some really great things. I feel in this world of streaming, that these television series are just as great as these big-budget feature films. What they have is they can expand on their storylines with these comic book characters. I would love to do one because of the physicality that some of those roles require. I love doing stunts and I'm very athletic. Any type of role that has that physicality to it, I really lean into that. Any type of comic book role that came my way would be a dream.

So even though season 5 is my favorite season of Gilmore Girls, I also think it's the season where we first see plot elements introduced in the show merely the create drama for drama's sake. Although nothing happens that can't be fixed, it's a pattern that re-emerges to disastrous effect the next season and made the final two seasons so difficult to watch. Unfortunately, a lot of what was written is inconsistent with what happened before on the show and was completely unnecessary.
Let's take the biggest issue, the spoiled man-baby elephant in the room: Christopher. ASP was infatuated with the actor (she made a point to gush over how gorgeous he was in AYITL era interviews) and sought to include him in the show at all possible points. ASP claimed she only got Luke and Lorelai together when she could ensure that Sutcliffe was available to cause "drama": since she earlier claimed that Jess came on the show mostly to keep them apart, it's obvious that she really, really did not want to write them.
However, from a plot standpoint, Christopher isn't needed. He more or less disappeared from Lorelai and Rory's lives at the beginning of season 3 and they were fine on their own. Lorelai had relationships with Max, Jason, and Alex without his involvement whatsoever, so the idea that he's suddenly needed to make her relationship with Luke interesting is faulty reasoning. Unless, of course, you want to argue that the true intention is to introduce the idea that Luke and Stars Hollow are too lowly and pedestrian of an existence for Lorelai, who deserves a more upper-class lifestyle, which brings me to my next point...
...that Luke needs to be ushered out of Lorelai's life at the insistence of her parents. This is ridiculous. Lorelai's lifelong battle with her parents is based on the fact that she chose her small town and a more debased lifestyle over them. She rejected their values and raised Rory with her own and that included raising her at a lower class of society. Lorelai's parents don't approve of what Lorelai does for a living, and Lorelai has to beg them to attend the test run of the Dragonfly. More to the point, Emily seemed to acknowledge that Luke and Lorelai were attracted to each other in season 1, and even though she ends the last of those conversations impatiently asking Lorelai what she was thinking, she seems to accept it. Lorelai is what Lorelai is, and she can't make things change.
Oh, but in season 5, Emily is suddenly concerned about Lorelai's "future" because she owns an inn instead of managing one, and she has to insist that Luke and Lorelai break up to protect that "future" even though she never cared about her profession before and did not involve herself in any of Lorelai's other relationships, and she has to finagle to get Lorelai and Christopher together even though she gave up on that two years earlier when she realized it wasn't going to happen like she wanted and forcing Lorelai and Christopher to interact was only making things worse. It's all ridiculous manufactured drama when she just as well could have shrugged her shoulders at Lorelai dating Luke and remained mostly indifferent at Lorelai opening the inn like she was before, instead of using both of these things to justify interfering in Lorelai's love life because Amy wanted that to be the plot.
However, if you want to argue that Lorelai needs to move upward in society in order to cast Christopher as a more plausible alternative, I guess this could justify writing this plot, even if it argues against the basic premise of your show and title character.
The last plot element that is drama for drama's sake is of Lorelai's pregnancy scare and new job offer. Earlier on in the season we see Lorelai contemplating marriage, yet when she thinks she might be pregnant she is hesitant and won't tell Luke because she wants to experience life as an independent adult woman for the first time right as Luke is contemplating buying a big new house for them. Okay, fine, Lorelai, it's your life, but pick a lane, please. Then we see her contemplating this job that has her traveling all over the place out of nowhere even though she has had her business in the small town she has lived in for decades open for (1) year, fulfilling a dream she has had for years, which she also runs with her best friend who has two small children and is seemingly dependent on Lorelai staying put and following through with her commitment to keep that business running. Now all of a sudden Lorelai wants to travel after running her own inn for a year? Again, it's her life but this really comes out of nowhere and both of these plot elements seem to be introduced so that Luke can have his "what about the kids" outburst.
Then we have Lorelai forget about independent life and wanting to travel and see her propose to Luke, although she is initially hesitant about kids, only to have her be willing to tear down the relationship and wreck any possible personal relationship between them permanently by the season because she doesn't have the marriage and kids she so desperately wants.
I don't think any of this was necessary, but ASP did not want to write about Luke and Lorelai, the functioning couple coming together somewhat late in life and living a nice middle-class life in their crazy town. She wanted to write a love triangle that implied that Luke wasn't good enough and Lorelai aspired to be part of upper-class society again, even though she had spent the majority of her life running as far away as she could from it.
Now, I know I am not like many (if not most) fans of this show. There seems to be a significant portion of the remaining fans who are only in favor of something if it means Lorelai is getting what she wants. Obviously, I do not believe that what Lorelai wants has to be considered the primary value in the plot: at a certain point, morality and the best interests of more consistently written characters have to considered, too. But my point here is that perhaps none of that matters because at a certain point towards the end of the show's run what Lorelai actually wanted changed quite frequently based on whatever it would take to shove her in the direction of ASP's preferred love interest and the high-society aspects of the show she clearly valued the most.
Anyway, season 5 is still enjoyable to me but there's a lot about it that doesn't make sense and is clearly geared to guide the show in a more classist direction.

The Epilogue:
Roman and Virgil:
They never did get married, because they didn’t want to. Virgil believes it to be a british social construct to control women and the lower class, and Roman believes marriage to be bad luck.
They did get into that huge funky war that we were talking about, and had to put Babe with Protection. After weeks of convincing, Valentine, Mac-Kenzie, and Junius fought by Virgil and Roman’s side, and they won after 5 years of fighting.
Virgil fulfilled his lifelong dream of making Bonner regret his words, and plunged his mother’s dagger into his chest. Something about Bonner that Virgil never mentioned was the fact that the man often shared the same words as his former husband, so perhaps that fueled his anger. After a lot of crying, Virgil came to the conclusion that maybe he’d leave the fighting to Angie, and hire a royal therapist.
There was more to Virgil’s story than that though, he did raise Babe with his beloved partner, Roman, after the war. He made an excellent father. Anne even came back and apologized, earning her role back into Virgil’s and his son’s life. He even got to see his nephews more often.
Seeing that his son is now only 12 years away from being a full fledged adult (to him that isn’t very long), Virgil now has to see that Babe is very different from other children. Honestly, he never thought his own very very dead mother would be assisting in the parenting of his child, but hey, Virgil has to remember that he isn’t always right, even if he can see the future.
Meanwhile Roman pursued his love for music and theatre, he even opened a music program for Oteriphanne, showing the lovely folks the beauty of music that isn’t just only about killing the French and Brits in order to stop deculturalization of their land (though that’s not a bad topic, Roman literally just wanted 14th century vampires to enjoy Spice Girls and it worked).
He obviously, but admittedly very awkwardly, learned how to parent a child. Roman wasn’t as picture perfect as he would’ve liked to be, he did after all accidentally make his son cry many times. Like Virgil, he now sees that their kid is different. His son’s ears are full of words that he can’t understand, but hopes to try his best to ease Babe’s worries and hardships in life.
Through five years of virgous studying, Roman became a quarter fluent in Pterannan. With even more studying and training, he finally became a fully trained Knight and earned his spot next to Virgil with his forementioned music program (turns out teaching a population several new skills, means he bettered the population which is a requirement to become a king when you're not blood related to royalty).
Still there’s somethings that Roman still regrets, he never did come to an understanding with his stepfather, who was his namesake. Nor does he see Remus and his husband as often as he wishes he did. And he kinda wants to buy a cow.
Even after being together for almost 10 years, they still love each other, and yes, Virgil still calls a phone, a magic box because some things never change.
Patton:
After he and Logan adopted the children from the Dragonwitch au that they accidently orphaned, Patton certainly was trying his best to keep going, and he did a pretty alright job.
Patton single handedly traveled across the country from Florida to Indiana with four small children whose identities he had to hide along his.
Once he had made it to the David-Dase residence, he explained what had happened and asked for help, and here’s what happened.
Nicholas and James owned property in rural Saskatchewan, which they had inherited from Jane Phoebe David (James’ deceased mother) and never really knew what to do with it. So in order to keep their son’s husband and their new grandchildren safe, James and Nicholas let Patton and their grandchildren live there. It was a good spot for them, it kept the reporters away from Patton and kept people away from Daniel, Jane, Harper and Buddy.
After receiving help from James and Nicholas, Patton had to figure out how to explain his disappearance to the police so that he could gain some form of normality, and a good enough job to support his growing family.
Stuff didn’t exactly go well at first. Still grieving over his separation from Logan, he did often find it hard to smile for his children, nor did he find it easy to explain to them that they couldn’t out in public without being hidden from the world’s view. It didn’t help when his O’Pa (Janus Van Den Bosch-Brzozowski) passed away from a deteriorating body, it was for the best, but it hurt to lose another parent.
He kept going though. His brother, Patton Reyes-Baker, moved in with him and got a job helping a local beekeeper. It wasn’t so bad, grief can strengthen some bonds. His step father, Remus, visited every so often, it was clear that he probably wouldn’t be around much longer either.
He’s doing a pretty good job raising those kids. Still it doesn’t help that Patton wishes he did it with his beloved. There have been many long nights of waiting and crying. There’s a good chance that Patton won’t move on until old age, which could be a good thing for a certain someone. Overall, if he were to describe it, it’s like the worst nightmare and the best dream ever at the same time.
Patton did get to open that diner, he did get to take his puppies home with him, and he did teach his kids how to ride bikes (except Buddy), but it still wasn’t the same. For all he cares, he’s still a married man.
Hymnthian:
Being one of the oldest motherfuckers ever, Hymnthian is still kicking it. Under Virgil and Roman’s rule, he’s pretty happy. He does find some common ground with his great (times a couple hundreds) grandchild though. Babe’s remarkable ability to hear the dead often comes in handy for a grieving widower. In return for hearing what his dead wife has to say, he teaches Babe how to play To-Ouch, an Oterian instrument.
Janus and Remus:
As you might've heard earlier, Janus passed away. It’s important to remember that death is an important part of life. In Janus’ case, they were fine with it. After an aspiring career as a ballerina and potter, not being able to use your hands or foot can often be depressing. When their body finally gave out, Janus figured it best if their sister took their place. Janus died comfortably and happily. What else can I say that will convince you? Death isn’t always a bad thing.
Remus O’Malley-Gator was a different story. After the death of Janus, he found himself once again lost. He visited Patton, Patton, and his step-grandkids every so often. Remus spent most of time adventuring, looking for some kind of fulfillment. I suppose that sounds bad, but I always write a bittersweet ending.
Camila and Lotte:
After spending most of her adult life in the void, Camila was beginning to feel hopeless. Her sons were already grown and had found their soulmates, while she had still had nothing. Camila wandered for a while, universe after universe, she turned up with nothing once again.
With Janus having passed, their replacement would soon have to come in. And well, she was certainly surprised. Camila had no idea Janus had a younger sister! Lotte had been frozen for over 200 years, and arrived fresh from the fridge at the ripe old age of 48.
Camila had her fair share of trying to tell this beautiful, intelligent, strong woman that she was from a soulmate universe and that Lotte was her long awaited soulmate. Let’s just say, it took her a couple years.
Lotte had her share of pining as well. I mean, Camila is an equally beautiful, intelligent, strong woman who was tall (every short lesbian’s weakness).
She found her footing as her sibling’s replacement eventually, while she didn’t wield a shepherd's crook but having arms of pure steel sure did come handy when dealing with the dangers of the void.
Eventually, you know that their had to be an equally cute lesbian void wedding, where Patton and Roman became cousins, so that’s cool.
Logan:
As the only void dweller that actually only lives in the void, his life, honestly, sucks.
As the years go by, Logan’s hair only gets grayer and his yearning only grows stronger. He builds his tough exterior up once more, with some dull hope still intact. Logan knows the probability of never seeing his husband and kids again, and lets the gnawing feeling eat away at him.
But you know what? He did get to be cool Uncle Logan (his Ultra Secret Oterian Code Name was Protection) for about five years. He loved the shit out of Babe, even taught that boy some french and how to clear his mind even when people’s thoughts are louder than all shit.
Then he had to give Babe back to Virgil and Roman, knowing he should take the offer to live in Oteriphanne, he did.
Nothing became of it, he’s just a guy in a country full of vampires. There’s nothing there for him after all. Logan knows Babe isn’t his to parent, and chooses to keep his distance so he doesn’t crowd Roman and Virgil. Maybe in a few years, he’ll risk his life. For now, he’ll just become a grizzled middle aged man.

Note
any joy has
Bien sur! Sorry I’m doing my French homework and I’ve failed two AP tests in a row
Papa Louie Joy HCs
-Allegra J. Bianchi, or Joy as she’s most commonly referred to, is the 24 year old niece of Papa Louie and Roy’s older sister. The three all live together in a Tastyville mansion since she’s finished her education in Sakura Bay. When she isn’t waitressing at the Pizzeria, Joy spends much of her free time coaching gymnastics and competing in competitions, which have garnered her a fiercely loyal fanbase. She also moonlights as a vigilante named Ninjoy, who uses unconventional and even somewhat violent methods to defeat criminals. The two she’s mostly obsessed with are Guy Mortadello (she doesn’t know he’s her dad, just that he causes Papa trouble) and Dynamoe (cause he sucks).
-Joy is extremely energetic (sometimes to the point where it’s scary) and cheerful, a huge contrast to Roy’s shyness. She’s also very competitive not only in sports, but in almost anything, making it a hassle to work with her on some occasions. She also has a strong sense of justice and often advocates for certain political issues. This has also led to her desire to “purify the world” through defeating criminals, though her anger issues often have her painted as a true villain. Joy has also grown apart from her family because of her huge aspirations and doesn’t really make attempts to rebuild these bonds.
-Growing up popular, she’s had multiple friends that she’s still in close contact with. It’s a very long list, but her closest friends include Indigo, Janana, Cameo, Akari, Kaleb, Moe, Boomer, Perri, and Wendy. She just has a certain charm and positivity that draw lots of people to her. It’s also worth mentioning that despite basically being Moe’s girlfriend, neither of them can tell that they’re both Dynamoe and Ninjoy. She also can’t tell that Perri is quite obviously Perri Platypus.
-If you even look at Roy, Papa, or Moe funny, she’ll throw a ninja star at you.
-Her lifelong dream is to run down an old Victorian era mansion wearing a flowy dress at least once.
-She has very little memory of her early life, just fuzzy images of a brunette woman and a man with a very strange mustache. Unlike Roy, she’s less curious and snoopy, so she hasn’t found any of the pictures or childhood possessions that Papa forgot to burn, so she hasn’t realized that Guy Mortadello is her father. It’d be extremely awkward if she found out, especially since she’s had physical confrontations with him before as Ninjoy.
-Joy wears her hair in pigtails because she likes to yank on them when she’s stressed. It’s also because she likes how they spin when she whips she head around.
-Her favorite type of pizza is Chicago deep dish and thin New York style pizza, as opposed to Roy and Papa’s love of traditional Italian pizza. She mostly likes how she can carry New York style pizza around easier and deep dish pizza helps her sleep better. She also likes to put octopus and wasabi on her pizza sometimes, which is absolute bull honkey, but Roy sometimes puts chocolate chips in his, so he can’t judge.
-Her and Moe’s relationship can be compared to Allan and Lisa’s. They never say they’re dating, but they’re clearly dating or at least in love. They met at a comic book convention when she was in Sakura Bay, where they bonded over their love of Windstorm. They occasionally steal each other’s accessories and have dates after the pizzeria closes. Okay like how the heck can they not tell that they both have secret identities as heroes and villains im serious I’ll never get over this
-She’s participated in just about every girls’ sports team at Croquembouche Prep Academy, except for cheerleading since she kept clashing with Prudence. Especially in gymnastics, soccer, and dance. Even though they grew apart, Roy and Papa still made efforts to attend all of her games.
-Joys secretly runs one of those Marvel x reader blogs on tumblr. Hers in particular is called cherry.lips.bloody.lies (the pure edge is what sends me), and it’s extremely popular. She also makes a bunch of Instagram Marvel edits on a finsta page of the same name. She just loves superheroes so much, especially Captain America, but she’d die of embarrassment if anyone ever found them (Papa has and was gonna tease her about it, but he’s too emotionally invested in her fics to do so).
-Joy sometimes throws pizzas or order tickets into the kitchen or vaults over everything to make pizzas. She’s also cut ingredients and pizzas with ninja stars and katanas.
-She and Dynamoe are complete enemies because of Dynamoe’s persistence to make peoples’ lives a living hell, but they have a very strong and noticeable romantic tension. She and Perri Platypus are sometimes allies, but Perri Platypus is sometimes incompetent in the subject of being a hero, so Joy always pulls the weight.
-In the Hell’s Kitchen AU, she’s encouraging, but still completely ruthless as a sous chef. She’ll console you when Papa makes you cry and then immediately make you cry right after when you send up undercooked Wellington’s.
-She’s secretly been jealous of Roy because he seemed to be more favored by Papa growing up. Despite being surrounded by fans and friends who loved her, she kinda yearned for the simple friend group and family relationship that Roy had.
-Okay Joy ain’t really too significant to me, mostly because I’m still frustrated with how easy you can tell her identity as Ninjoy, but I do love her pigtails.

What one experience made you completely rethink how you viewed a certain individual or group of people, either in a positive or negative light?
I used to be absolutely terrified of homeless people. When I was little, a homeless man set up camp behind the office of our Church. The parents saw him just lying there in his blankets, and decided they wanted to help him (not call the cops). However, a few kids and I decided to be little jackasses, and dared eachother to touch the only part of him sticking out of the blanket; his bare feet.
Now the thing is, it's not necessarily *bad advice* to tell a kid not to poke the bare feet of a homeless guy. But it was certainly bad advice to take it to a much greater level, and say homeless people were dangerous, disease-ridden, and wanted to hurt us. Because for years afterwards, I couldn't go close to a homeless person, not even in my teens. I'd see them just sitting nonchalantly in front of a convenience store, and I wouldn't make eye contact.
In my senior year of high school, I decided to do a human interest piece for the school paper. It was a common addition, usually documenting the history and lifestyle of well-known local restaurants, former star athletes retiring in our quiet slice of suburbia, or up and coming entrepreneurs.
But there was one guy everybody knew, a man we called "Santa Bum." He was a homeless man who would share the waves with the school's surf team, and he existed mostly down at the beach. He was easy to spot with his very long pearly-white beard, which was his pride and joy.
I decided to do a piece on him. The journalism teacher thought I was joking, but I polled the class. Show of hands. How many of you guys know who Santa Bum is? Boom, all hands. Of course everyone knows this guy. You can't spend a week in that community without seeing him patrolling the beach or traversing the main boulevard in his bright red trunks.
He's Santa Bum. Of course he has bright red trunks.
I found him with the surf team, introduced myself, and he was immediately receptive to my questions. I was expecting maybe a 10 minute interview or an awkward end to it, maybe being asked for food or money or booze. Thing is, I was before one of the most well-known local celebrities in our community, but I also knew he was homeless. And man, I was a little scared too. The only thing that helped was knowing he's been a part of the community for a long time, the trusting assurance of "if he's actually dangerous, he probably would've been put away a long time ago."
The interview was amazing.
His name is Ryan. He graduated the same high school I did. He attended two years of college, but had to drop out when he lost his job at a closed pet store and couldn't pay tuition. One of his good friends started a business using a lot of his own money, and he jumped on board with him, working for free and burning through his last savings to stay afloat in the hopes of developing computer components for audio equipment and making millions. That never happened, and he ran out of money completely. He used his experience to try and find a job as an audio engineer, but ended up at a record store. He had a mental break in the 80's, decided he didn't want to work anymore, felt he gave the world enough of a chance to say he tried, and made the deliberate choice to live the rest of his life out of his van.
Ryan knows a *ton* about 70's era computer technology, audio mixing, and always has an infinite list of unknown garage bands confined to memory that he could always recommend with the fervor of a lifelong fan. I described his expansive knowledge of obscure and small local acts, writing "He knew more about opening acts than headliners."
And he just hit a wall. He proposed to his girlfriend, but she declined and left him shortly afterward. His deadend job, his inability to utilize his limited college education, and a rapid pace of computer evolution left him feeling unwanted, unmotivated, and on the brink of a nasty drinking addiction. One morning, he realized the destructive path his life was taking, decided to quit his job, and just take a meditative afternoon to recollect his thoughts at the beach.
And the beach never let him go.
He made his money collecting cans from garbage bins and turning them in to the grocery store. Most of his food came from what the local shops threw out; the greatest year of his new life was when Noah's Bagels opened a shop down there, because they would throw out several weeks worth of delicious high carb food items every evening. He was fortunate to kick his drinking habit before it got too out of control, and expressed how blessed he was that he could simply overcome the urge with a nice afternoon nap on the sand.
He wasn't just aware of the "Santa Bum" moniker. He invented it. When he realized his facial hair was turning white early in his homeless life, he grew out the beard, thinking it would make him more approachable. He believed people would be less likely to hassle him if he looked like Santa Claus, because who would call the cops on Ol' Saint Nick? With his distinct red trunks and beard, he didn't look like some homeless guy sleeping on the beach. He looked like a friggin' postcard. Kids would be delighted seeing him surf, making him a valued member of the community.
By far, this was the most enjoyable interview I ever did for that newspaper. And the article got a tremendous response from the students as well, a lot of the school surf team started greeting him by name every morning. The surf team's coach personally complimented me for the article, saying I did a great job capturing his story and assuaging the apprehensions some parents might express seeing him there. The coach used to surf with Ryan and got to know him years previous, so his approval meant a lot to me.
Since then, I'm still a little wary around the homeless. I've walked through skid row and the fashion district enough times to know there are some legitimately unstable and off-kilter individuals who aren't all there. But the thing is...I've *walked through skid row.* I wouldn't have gone anywhere close to that place before.
But Ryan undid a lot of the mental damage that one mother did in my formative years. He reminded me that there's still a human behind every one of those downtrodden faces, and they all have a story to tell. A story of dreams, attempts, successes, and failures. They all have reasons for being there. And if you lend them an ear, they can take you on a wild ride of a story that makes you appreciate who they really are, and not just the circumstance they've ended up in.
Ryan passed away from skin cancer in the mid 2000's. The local paper had a quarter-page feature for him in the front bottom fold. It described his history in working a tech start-up back when they were super rare, his aspirations to be an audio engineer for local bands, and one particular line stood out. "He knew more about opening acts than headliners."
Logically, it's most likely coincidence. But a part of me thinks my own story influenced Ryan's remembrance in a more prominent publication, giving them more to work with. It might've just been another blip in the obituaries section, but by taking a morning to just sit down and hear him out, his memory is carrying on to present day.

bts astro soulmate reading | for elliot
This reading is for Elliot, a very sweet Yoonjin bias who sometimes (often) finds himself thinking about Kim Taehyung. Can you blame him? Thank you so much for your patience, love. I hope you enjoy and are staying safe a well. <3
Tumblr media
A Cancer Sun and Libra Moon makes for a very mysterious, contradictory personality, with Cancer existing on a highly emotional and reserved plane while Libra yearns to roam, explore and adapt to their surroundings. You are all at once highly sociable, deeply enjoying the company of others, and private - often swimming away on your own to escape the harsh realities of the world - enjoying  a cozy night in with a good book or podcast almost as much as a delicious dinner out with a large group of friends and acquaintances. Those who don't know you well may accuse you of being a bit unsteady, seeing all the ways in which you adapt to your surrounding and feed off of others energies. Your close friends and family know that you are just water and air, constantly seeking balance and harmony in your relationships above all else. All three of your placements are geared towards security and balance, and at your core you crave stability and a strong foundation in your home that is calming, peaceful and without too much tension or unpleasantness. It is because of this that you are drawn to creative artistic pursuits, though you likely hold a more traditional full time job to ensure you are financially secure and comfortable. Those possessing your star placements are innately empathetic, nurturing of others and self-critical of self. While your Virgo rising lends itself to additional self-criticism, towards others you are incredibly soft, sentimental, and supportive - if only you showed more gentleness towards yourself! It is likely that you are loved by many, serving as a strong emotional refuge for family and friends alike, who admire your compassionate, trustworthy and purposeful nature.
A true lover of life's simple wonders, you are likely to gravitate towards the arts, spending your free time exploring museums, galleries, concerts, and any other large gathering around creative ideals. On one particular early fall afternoon while exploring an outdoor exhibit in the city with friends, your eyes gravitate towards a man playing a piano in the square. His presence is magnetic to you, your eyes immediately  drawn to his slouched posture as his fingers stroke each key, his face covered by short, black hair and a black cap. The shadow of the mysterious figure piques your curiosity, enough for you to approach him to have a closer listen, the melody floating through the crisp air of the changing seasons. It is almost as if in that moment nobody else is in the square - just you, the music and the mysterious gentleman - until his fingers stop moving, as if breaking from a trance. Fully immersed in his own world, he doesn't notice you standing there until several minutes later, his dark eyes moving to meet yours in a moment of instant attraction, one that only two water signs could possess.
Imagine your surprise when you find out that the presumably down-and-out aspiring artist is actually the esteemed Min Yoongi, a fact that he conceals until you're on your second or third date.
Ever the optimist and hopeless romantic, your Cancer Sun lives to love and be loved, both platonically and romantically - longing for a partnership that is all encompassing. This is amplified by your Venus in Leo, which makes you a lover of big love (think grand displays of affection, gift giving, and passionate quality time.) You want to spoil a partner, seeing no reason to skimp or cut corners for the people you love and expecting the same adoration in return. This is especially true once you fall hard, as it often takes some time for people to get past the barriers of your outwardly serious Virgo rising and your impenetrable deeper Cancer shell. At first you will keep your feelings close, waiting for the other party to reveal themselves to be genuinely trustworthy and open before letting them into your inner world. Once in love, you want to pull out all the stops, becoming the most nurturing, adoring lover - almost as if making up for lost time of keeping your emotions reigned in for so long. Yoongi's Pisces is also cautious in love, but it does not take long for him to show the range of his emotions, his romantic energy and empathy all at once making you feel secure and understood in ways that you do not often experience with other signs - signaling that it is okay to open up and be vulnerable. You are drawn to Yoongi's artistry that flows out of him, the sparseness of his words that hold meaning in every syllable, and he adores your compassionate nature - thinking of you as a true friend and companion, though the connection is very much a romantic one. A Cancer and Pisces are likely to spend countless hours tangled up in their sheets, hands softly caressing every inch of each other before even becoming overtly sexual. This is a duo that is incredibly intimate, enjoying savoring each and every delicious moment in each other's company and romantic spirits. You could undoubtedly spend the rest of your life laying next to Yoongi as his fingers graze your hair, cheek and neck, sweet nothings pouring into your ear. You naturally connect on an innately intimate level, the tone of his voice enough to rile you up long before his long, skilled fingers even begin to move down past your neck, chest and belly button. In bed, Yoongi brings a gentleness alongside just the right amount of kink to set you on fire.
Your desire for romance cannot be outweighed, however, by stability and comfort. A Cancer, while a hopeless romantic, is not excited by the idea of a tumultuous, unpredictable love wherein.spontaneity reigns. While you are ruled by water as a Cancer, your Libra heart and Virgo moon crave balance and relative predictability - something that our Pisces Yoongi wants but often escapes him in his quest for greatness. Yoongi's Venus is in Aries, making his love is a bit more impulsive and spontaneous, Ultimately, after many nights in bed alone with your partner huddled in his studio, you realize that Yoongi's more free-flowing Pisces spirit proves to be a bit too fluid for your Cancer heart. The dissolution of this relationship is extremely challenging given your shared emotional depths, and there is surely a continuation of the relationship via long, late night phone calls and sentimental texts until one of you breaks it off to preserve your sanity and wellbeing. This is a pairing that makes a lifelong, profound impact on each other, likely prompting Yoongi to write some of his best work to date.
A Cancer Sun and Libra Moon is not likely to be single for too long, very much preferring the company of a romantic partner to single life. Luckily for you, people are inherently drawn to your warmth, which lies beneath the surface of your Virgo rising but is quickly detectable by some. You're happy to find yourself approached by a handsome stranger while browsing through an indie record shop downtown, his fingers floating across the top of the album you've taken interest in. That's a great album, are you a fan? You aren't sure how long you are in the shop chatting up the boy, who introduces himself as Kim Namjoon, before you're off to grab a coffee at a nearby cafe.
It takes many months of seeing Namjoon the Virgo - who would prefer to be alone with a good book than in the presence of bad company - to reveal a more emotional side of himself. Despite approaching you first, Namjoon is not exactly suave, his endearingly goofy mannerisms a result of his high level of independence and time spent in solitude away from prying eyes. This relationship begins as more of a friendship with two generally cautious people tiptoeing around their emotions, wondering who is going to take the risk of revealing their true self first. But after some time it becomes clear that his more business-like, stoic Virgo exterior does not stand much of a chance against the depths of your Cancer emotion and Libra charm. When partnered, you are your person's biggest cheerleader, and it is your emotional range and empathic powers that can successfully soften the coldest heart as you only see the good in others - never the bad. Early on, much of the relationship is spent with you intently listening to his ramblings or championing his many professional creative endeavors - his words like poetry to you as he workshops new lyrics, projects, or his dreams of the future that he will so clearly put into action as a result of his . The Virgo is happy to open his mind to you over countless walks along the river or through lush parks outside of the city, a bond forming from your desire to be needed and wanted if even as a supportive listener. He senses your genuine interest in his thoughts - not for his status as a celebrity but who he is as a person. Your empathic qualities, while natural to you, are also a form of protection against getting hurt: speak less frequently, and you won't need to reveal many of your insecurities around your own potential. More than anything, Namjoon wants you to open up and let him in to your world. your innate strengths and talents, bringing you away from all of your negative self-talk and doubt around your abilities - something he can relate to deeply as a Virgo Sun. Maybe it is the warmth of his brown eyes as he tells you how special you are, or the way the sun rays perfectly hit his brown hair, but you can't help but believe him.
Once you are able to move into understanding on a deeper level, you find that Namjoon is one of the most sentimental, loyal people you've ever known. Namjoon's Venus is in Scorpio, meaning that despite any hurt he has experienced in the past, he is a true romantic at his core, looking for his one true love and willing to devote it all to that special person. The Scorpio is notably possessive in love, which serves to both frustrate and excite you in just the right ways. While your Libra moon may be naturally flirtatious, Namjoon is the one that holds your heart, and you enjoy being consumed by his love through song and writing - with his Mercury in Libra, you are likely to be his muse in all things creative. This is a pairing that can spend endless hours nestled in bed reading a book, bouncing ideas off of each other, and exploring each other's hearts before diving into the physical. You, Cancer, are the sexual initiator, wanting to know him body and soul - exposing him to an entirely new emotional plane of sexual connection. For the Virgo man, sex is often just another thing to be skilled at, and you are able to expose the innately vulnerable, emotional, and outwardly animalistic nature of his sexuality. The sexual relationship between these two is almost transcendent, with you taking the reins as the boss to show him the ropes, allowing him to unlock a different side to himself and learn how to please you. As someone who gets off to the idea of learning and achieving, expect marathon sessions in each other's arms (and mouths).
Ultimately, Namjoon is the member best able to bring you the stability you crave alongside an unwavering emotional commitment, with an earthly ability to firmly ground you when you are lost at sea. He will allow you to swim into your solitude - as you need from time to time - but you can rest easily that he will always be there when you are ready to return to reality. More than anything Namjoon is a provider, his mind working over time to help you solve your problems and achieve your dreams with his quintessential Virgo intelligence and flare, likely pushing you to pursue your creative ideas full-time instead of shying away from your potential and making sure you have everything to feel secure. You are someone who becomes a better person when in love, flourishing under others affection, and with Namjoon you have a special opportunity to truly come into yourself and achieve more than you ever imagined. Meanwhile, you provide a level of nurturing that he so deeply desires and a softness that he so desperately needs and few others can provide. In this partnership, you are the caretaker of the physical and emotional realm, while he is a provider in a more literal sense: making sure you have everything you need financially to create a sanctuary home base curated for the two of you to create and restore yourselves when the day is done. This is a duo that is steadfast and secure, prioritizing home and family and partnership over frivolity and spontaneity, appreciating travel and gallery openings abroad but also knowing how to take comfort at home with nights in and a vinyl on a record player. It is in this secure, stable lifestyle that you are both stimulating and fulfilled. Overall, this astrological pairing is comprised of two very synchronized and amenable plane, existing on a very calm, comforting foundation that is impossible to shake.

there it is, finally! the list of my favourite hl fics of All Time.
disclaimer: some of these i have read only once and forever ago, but i’ve got them saved in a folder, and i vaguely remember them Meaning something to me when i read them, but basically -- if you read something from this list and end up not enjoying it, sorry not sorry! i operate on nostalgia sometimes, it’s possible i wouldn’t be that into some of them now, too, but whatevs!
i made myself stick to one work per author, otherwise this would be endless, but if an author’s nickname is bolded, it means i’ve had the time to read all of their works, and recommend them all.
i’m fairly certain i’m forgetting stuff (especially those stories that i’ve never saved/bookmarked), so i’ll try to keep this updated fairly regularly -- whenever i remember an old fave, or fall in love with something new. i’ll make sure to reblog this post then.
the order is completely random. this is a list where every work carries equal significance, even if not always for the same reasons. it was supposed to be alphabetical, but turns out i’m far too lazy for that. (shocker.) i took the liberty of shortening some of the original summaries, because this post is going to be Too Long anyway. rip.
enjoy! hopefully.

Harry's got a heart, a soul, and a band. And with that, obviously, comes a future paved in great success, right? So all he has to do is win the Battle of the Bands, right? Simple.
What's not so simple is the fact that Louis Tomlinson is his biggest competition. And also happens to be made of everything that Harry's ever wanted.
Take Me Where I Cannot Stand by LoadedGunn (13,988)

OC Ask Game
I was tagged by the amazing @illegalcerebral
I put a Keep Reading link because this is looong.
1) Name (and why you chose it if you like) McKinley Campbell Durand. I named her after McKinley Morganfield, better known as Muddy Waters. However, the “in universe?” reason that will be given - which I haven’t written yet - is that McKinley and Campbell are family names from a few generations back.
Campbell comes from the Gaelic words for ‘crooked’ and ‘mouth.’ I just like the name. Here’s a post (that I had to rewrite because Tumblr’s a dick and wouldn’t let me edit the typos in the original. The rewrite had typos too! Blargh!) that discusses her first and last names. I thought it would be funny for her full name to consist solely of last names.
2) Fandom and how they fit into the story Criminal Minds. She works at a D.C. museum practically around the corner from the J. Edgar Hoover building (as indicated in “Let It Bleed”). That’s a tiny hint that it’s the National Museum of African American History & Culture, but I don’t think I’ll mention it very often, if for no other reason than I’ve never been to the NMAAHC and don’t want to describe it inaccurately.
The official story is that Spencer and McKinley met at the museum (again, in “Let It Bleed,” which is probably the least favorite thing of mine that I’ve written). However, they’d met once before, and texted a few times after that. Because my brain is all over the place, and because I’m telling the story in non-chronological order, I haven’t written their first meeting yet. The only details I’ve revealed thus far are that it was nighttime in a park, McKinley caught Spencer off guard and made him fall to the ground, and whatever they talked about set Spencer straight and lifted his spirits. Also, a swingset was involved. Beyond that, I’ve inserted McKinley into the plotlines and events of the show, with necessary alterations, and there’s a ton of domestic Spencer and off-duty team stuffs.
3) Do they have any family? Biological family: daughter Sophie and son Jason; her Mom (no name yet); maternal grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins; and her estranged father (no name yet). Chosen/found family: husband Spencer; the BAU.
4) As a child, what did they want to be when they grew up? When she was a toddler, McKinley wanted to be a pediatrician (a doctor just for kids?! Cool!) or an ophthalmologist (she’s worn glasses practically her whole life). As an older child she aspired to be an entomologist or herpetologist. In her teenage years she considered a career in forensic pathology or criminal psychology. While earning her BA in English, she discovered that Public History was her true calling.
5) Their greatest dream To be a good Mom. To inspire learning in others.
6) Their worst nightmare Losing her family; having to see her father again.
7) Strengths Empathy, insight/self awareness, forgiving nature but knowing when to cut her losses
8) Weaknesses McKinley struggles with imposter syndrome.
She can be very mean. I mean, downright nasty cruel, verbally. This is rare though because, and I’m paraphrasing a future bit of dialogue here, anyone whose behavior could arguably warrant such a response is beneath her notice and not worth the effort. She’s more likely to close the door on someone. When she’s removed a person from her life, she is done. They become literally nothing to her. McKinley will rightly claim that this is about self-preservation and boundaries, but she really takes it to the next level.
9) What would they chose between: morning and night, sweet and savoury, beaches or meadows, cities or countryside, winter or summer, Christmas or Halloween (sorry, Spencer!), movies or TV shows, action or rom-com, clowns or vampires, stars or the moon (both!), cocktails or pints [Neither. McKinley doesn’t care for cocktails or beer. Scotch, brandy, rum, and dry wines are her poisons. She’s been known to add Kahlúah to vanilla ice cream, Baileys Irish Cream to coffee (she wants to try Drambuie next), or make hot toddies when she has a cold (obviously not mixing any alcohol with any medicine)]
10) How do they relax? Reading, or having Spencer read to her; knitting; listening to her records or playing her guitar; exercising with Boogie so she’s exhausted enough to sleep that night; baking and cooking
11) What makes them angry? Injustice, apathy/indifference, ableism, willful ignorance
12) What makes them afraid? The awful things she’d possibly do under duress; her family getting hurt or worse; spiders and other bugs that bite and/or sting
13) What is a moment from their childhood that has shaped who they are? It’s not a single event, but growing up with an abusive parent has certainly had a lifelong impact on McKinley. You’ve heard the expression “once bitten, twice shy?” She’s “once bitten, there’s no twice because you no longer exist.” She’s working on that. It’s also cultivated empathy, though, and is part of the reason she volunteers in the hospital’s rehab wing.
14) Do they have a sense of humour? Intellectual humor, pop culture references, puns/Dad jokes, science jokes. Sometimes morbid.
15) What do they value in their friends/loved ones? Honesty and empathy
16) Do they have any pets? An Aussie Collie/Border Aussie named Boogie-Woogie. He’s her first child.
17) Worst memory? Probably the day Meadows shot her and she thought she’d never see Spencer and Penny again.
18) Best memory? The days Sophie and Jason were born. Minus, y’know, the agonizing pain of labor and delivery.
19) Do they have any tattoos? (If no would they get one?) Nope and nope
20) If you could write them into another fandom, which one would you choose? If I knew the MCU better, I’d love to write her in as a Stark Tower employee! She’d be an anthropologist and would study alien societies the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. have encountered. She’d naturally be drawn to Loki, initially in a professional capacity (they quickly discover they relate to each other on a personal level as well).
He’d first find her annoying: “Why are you pestering me, Mortal? Surely you’d rather interview my oaf of a brother?”
“No, not even remotely. He only ever wants to discuss battles he’s won. There’s so much more to Asgard and the other realms than that. I want - I need - to learn your literature, your science, your culture and history. You’re well versed in all of these subjects and you’re an excellent teacher.”
He stares at her impassively over his mug of tea, but his heart - that Judas of an organ - flutters slightly at the compliment. And how can he say no to a fellow scholar?
“I prefer your company to Thor’s too. You have this calming presence. Thor’s sweet but he’s also obnoxiously loud and brash and he always hugs me even though I keep telling him I don’t like it. And he’s constantly swinging his hammer around, which makes me think he’s overcompensating for something.”
Loki nearly chokes on his tea. Yes, this mortal is considerably more tolerable than others.
“Very well. Friday evenings at 6:00, my chambers. Arrive late and suffer my wrath.”
From that day forward, whenever Thor tries to hug her, he gets mildly electrocuted.
Did I accidentally sorta kinda write a drabble? Would anyone be interested in making this a collab? That’s what they’re called, right? (Can you tell I’ve given this some thought? Haha! I have even more details in my head.)
21) Do they like their job? (What else would they do if they could?) She loves it! Hmmm, what else…? A librarian maybe. Or animate and produce an educational cartoon series.
22) What is their sexuality? Demisexual
23) Do they believe in love at first sight? Soulmates? One true love? McKinley believes in “seeing the potential for a good relationship at first conversation.”
Yes, although she feels that term has become overused and poorly redefined.
People can find love again after it’s been lost.
24) What music do they listen to? Has that changed over time? I actually recently answered an ask about this. Yes, she grew up on what passed for country in the ‘90s. God help her, she had a boyband phase in junior high.
25) Can they cook? What food do they love? McKinley does pretty well in the kitchen. She loves a wide variety of food. She grew up in the south, so tons of carbs/comfort foods. She loves Thai, Japanese, and Indian food. She cooks up Middle Earth-inspired dishes (ha! nerd). She’s especially proud of a seed cake she bakes.
26) What are their hopes for the future? For her family to be healthy, safe and happy. To be debt free.
27) How do they react to being threatened? It’s a coin flip. McKinley might curl up like an armadillo and hope the predator gets bored and leaves, or she might kick the stool out from under them and cause their chin to slam into the bar and crack several teeth.
28) What is their love language? McKinley and Spencer both exhibit the Acts of Service love language, because just saying “I love you” isn’t enough. You ought to show it. She’ll randomly bake doughnuts for Spencer or play guitar for him in bed, and he’ll take care of laundry, dishes, and any other chores he sees need doing.
Quality Time is important for them too. Once a month, Luke and Penny babysit so Spencer and McKinley have a day alone together. It doesn’t really matter what they do. The point is it’s just them.
It caught McKinley by surprise how much she enjoys physical affection, given that she can be touch averse but holy moly she was more touch starved than she realized. She lives for snuggles and makeout sessions and playing with each others’ hair. When one of them doesn’t want to be touched, they hook their pinkies together.
29) What do they find most challenging in relationships? At work? In general? At work she struggles to gain her colleagues’ respect (think “Boy Genius” treatment except she has lady bits). In general, she struggles with trusting people.
30) What do you as a creator love best about writing this character? Giving her everything I wish I had but don’t.
Bonus: Include a link to your favourite work with this OC or write a small drabble.
October 12, 2021
Warm sunlight filtered through the curtains, gently rousing Spencer from a pleasant sleep. Just when he’d decided to get up, he felt the mattress dip behind him and his wife’s breath fanning over his ear.
“Who’s the birthday boy?” whispered McKinley.
Spencer smiled softly but feigned being asleep.
“Who’s the birthdaaay boooy?” she repeated, bouncing slightly.
“The good-looking guy to your left?”
“Happy Birthday!” she laughed, pressing kisses along his neck, suddenly shifting the mood from playful to sexy.
“Would the birthday boy like his birthday present?” she asked as she lifted the covers.
“Well, look at that - it’s already unwrapped!”

PATERNAL GRANDPARENTS:
Dominic Mulciber - Jeff Bridges
Current: Potioneer
Amelie Mulciber (nee Laurent) - Sally Field
Current: Housewife
Like many couples, their marriage was decided behind closed doors without either having any say in the matter. Formally, they’d only spoken in person a handful of times before their wedding. In the beginning, neither had any real interest in each other but did their best to present well in public the two operating more like roommates than a married couple. It took a few years before they announced the birth of their first child, Malachi’s father, Damian.  When all was said and done they would go one to have two more children together.
Dominic is known to be a stern man who had high expectations for his sons and was not know to spare them. Even in his younger years, he was known for the cold manner in which he dealt with the people around him.  His regimented manner assisted him well in his career as a Potioneer. He now owns an apothecary and is still doing a lot of the brewing of his own products himself.  While his expectations are still very high he has softened in his older age and is known to favor Malachi despite having not spoken to Damian in years.
Amelie grew up in the French countryside as the middle of three daughters with aspirations of owning a bakery at some point.  She is the youngest of three children and the only daughter. Her parents were French wandmakers.  Despite her agreeable nature it took her some time to warm up to the uncompromising man she’d married. Though she won him over rather quickly and is the apple of her husband's eye. Acts as the family mediator more often than not.
Dominic and Alexander Rowle have been close friends from their time at Hogwarts together. And both couples are still known to spend time together quite frequently.
While Amelie does not share her husband’s views on blood purity she values her family's reputation too much to voice such opinions.
MATERNAL GRANDPARENTS:
Alexander Rowle - Mark Harmon
Previous: Unspeakable & Head of the Department of Mysteries
Current:  Member of the Wizengamot
Jacqueline Rowle (nee O’Grady) - Susan Sarandon
Previous: Professional Quidditch Player & Head Coach of the Holyhead Harpies
Current:  Bookshop Owner
Alexander Rowle was enamored with his eventual wife the moment he laid eyes on her. She was boisterous and extroverted which let the two to butt heads for all of the seven years they spent at Hogwarts together. While they did marry for love it was far from a fairytale. Their relationship started on the heels of a drunken kiss in the midst of a petty argument at a party when Jacqueline challenged the other. What followed was a whirlwind relationship that ended in Alexander purposing before his family had even that the time to consider suitors. While they weren’t thrilled with his choice, not believing her to refined enough, ultimately they stopped arguing with him because she came from an otherwise desirable background. The two went on to have two children together.
Jacqueline Rowle was the firstborn to a large family that resided just outside of Dublin. She’d grown up working hard either at home or in the bookshop her parents owned. Regardless of their best efforts, she was always a bit rough around the edges.  Her natural curiosity helped her excel during her time at Hogwarts despite the posh Englishman who seemed to make her life miserable. After graduation, she went on to play professional quidditch first for the Kenmare Kestrels, and then later for the Holyhead Harpies. After the birth of her second child and a string of injuries, she moved on to coaching which she did until a few years ago when she retired from Quidditch all together. Jacqueline is a very outspoken witch who had a hard time transitioning to type of life her husband was born into. She is a very capable witch who was regarded for her spell casting prowess. She currently runs her family bookstore in Dublin which many Irish families preferring to purchase their school materials there.
Alexander was always rather particular. As a young boy, he was known to do things repeatedly until they were up to whatever standard he’d placed upon himself. During his school years, he was as meticulous as ever. His work always well researched and perfectly written. So being view as comparable to someone as crude as a girl who called herself Jac drove him up a wall. With many of the men in his family being career politicians, it was unsurprising when he took a position within the ministry. While politics weren’t his focus he has been a lifelong ministry employee working as an Unspeakable and heading the department all together before his retirement. He’s been a member of the  Wizengamot for the last ten years.
PARENTS:
Damian Mulciber - Jeffery Dean Morgan
Previous: Dragon Killer
Current: Head of the Beast Division
Eleanor Muciber (nee Rowle) - Elizabeth Hurley
Current: Housewife
The announcement of their engagement was a shock, to say the least. With the Rowle’s love story, it was expected their children would have the ability to do the same. The two had grown up together with Eleanor being one of the few able to break the young wizard self-imposed isolation at times. Nonetheless, it was safe the say the two hated each other. Despite his friendship with her brother Damian tormented the poor witch well into their time at Hogwarts. Even with their dislike of each other being common knowledge they were wed less than a year after her graduation. While Eleanor made continuous attempts to be the wife Damian wanted and expected their household was far from happy. Malachi is their only child together, and was born after years of being pressured by their families about children. Early in his childhood, Eleanor began locking herself in Malachi’s room at night as a way to keep them safe from his father. The two have slept separately since then.
Damian Mulciber grew up in a house that was initially as warm as it was grim. In his early years, his mother doted on him incessantly. While his father didn’t find it becoming he allowed it as to not rob his wife of her experience as a first-time mother. However, by the birth of their third son, Dominic had no patience for his heir being coddled. While he was hard on all of his children the focus of his ire was largely on Damian. In turn, the young boy chose to isolate himself save a friendship with the Rowle’s son. The two would bond over similar conditions and quiet penchant for violence which would lead both of them to an association with Tom Riddle in the school years. His obsession with Eleanor began as jealously; he found her to be spoiled, sheltered, and vain. Though no fault of her own she became the embodiment of everything he felt was out of his reach and was determined to show her just how miserable the world was. In spite of his father’s protest, he took a position as a Dragon Killer straight out of Hogwarts. It was far from glamourous but Damian proved to be almost too good at it. He is one of Lord Voldemort’s earliest followers joining as soon as he was approached, believing firmly in the cause. He is currently the head of the Beast Divison and has been for the last four years.
Eleanor was her parent's pride and joy. The young woman growing up well protected and pampered for the moment she was brought home from St. Mungo’s. Her mother had been so excited to finally bring home a baby girl. While the standards were still very high in their household she excelled easily in the areas her brother struggled. Animosity grew quickly between the pair with their parents happy to pit them against one another. Matters weren’t helped with the torment she received at the hands of Damian being facilitated by her own flesh and blood. During her time at school, she did everything to set herself up to start the life she’d dreamed of. Unfortunately, all of that came to an end during the Christmas holiday of her seventh year when she was informed of her engagement to Damian. Admittedly she was devastated, but attempted to accept her circumstances graciously. While it’s not common knowledge, but Eleanor left Damian right before she found out she was pregnant with Malachi. After making the mistake of telling her mother of that fact Damian tracked her down using a barrage of threats to bring her home. While she loves her son his birth was the worst thing that has ever happened to her.

If Love Be Rough with You
Summary: Chisato had closed her heart to love. She knew she could never receive it, so there was no point in leaving herself open.
Kaoru had somehow blown the doors to her heart open, and she couldn't close them no matter how hard she tried.
Notes: No, this is not the 8000+ word fic I posted about earlier. That’s...uh...that’s not getting posted here. This is just some Chisato catching feelings and getting upset about it.
Chisato didn’t really care for men. Not in the sense that she preferred women, although that was certainly true, but it was a little deeper than that. All the men she’d met had in some way disappointed her. Her own father was all but absent from her life, leaving her in the care of her controlling and temperamental mother. Because of this, the only adult men in her life had been agents, producers, directors. People who saw her not as a person, but as a tool or prop, and treated her accordingly. She hadn’t noticed it much when she was younger and had first started acting, but as she grew it gradually became more and more clear to her. Men had only hurt her, and she had no reason to assume that they would stop anytime soon.
There had been one exception though. A boy Chisato had known as a child. She still remembered the day they had met, when she had been at the playground and heard someone sobbing. Checking under the slide, she found him, curled into a fetal position and crying his eyes out. Naturally she had asked what was wrong, and after a little coaxing he explained to her that he was hiding from a group of older boys who regularly picked on him. In that moment she had offered him her hand, and told him that he wouldn’t have to worry about any bullies if she was with him. He seemed surprised by the gesture, and hesitated for a moment, before taking her hand.
They very quickly became friends. Apparently their parents knew each other, as his father was a rather prolific live theatre producer who had worked with Chisato’s mother before. This meant that they would see each other often, which only served to make their bond tighter. As Chisato got to know him more she found that he was an exceptionally tender-hearted person, prone to being moved to tears by nearly any story. And he had loved stories. He loved the ones about charming princes who would come and save fair maidens from the clutches of evil. He seemed to aspire to be one, and even called Chisato his princess from time to time. Which she would always respond by teasingly saying that she could never marry a prince who cried so much. Still, he was such a sweet, kind boy. Chisato may have even loved him, which was why it had hurt so much when they parted ways so she could start her acting career.
That was the first and last time she had loved someone. Entangled in the ruthlessness of the entertainment industry, she had quickly learned that love was not a luxury she would be given. She had fans, of course, but none of them loved her. None of them truly loved her, the real her, they merely loved an idealized, sanitized image of her that was safe to be placed in front of a camera. Even if she wanted to look for someone who possibly could look past her television persona, her personal life was so scrutinized by old men in suits and--ugh--by her mother that it wouldn’t even be worth it. So she did the only thing she could do and accepted it. If she was to live a life without love, so be it.
For years she kept this mindset. It had even extended to simple friendships, as she felt it would probably be best for her to keep her relationship with other entertainers strictly professional. She had intended to keep this up when she had been signed onto an idol band for some reason, but somehow her bandmates had wormed her way into her heart. She’d been wary at first, but eventually she came to accept it. Friends, she supposed, were something she could have. But nothing more.
Among her new friends was Yamato Maya, a shy and somewhat awkward girl who attended a neighboring school, Haneoka Girls’ High School. Despite being in the band and playing onstage Maya was more at home in a studio, fiddling with lighting and sound equipment, which was what she did for her school’s drama club. Maya would talk about the drama club sometimes. Most of it was unremarkable, but something that did catch Chisato’s attention was that Maya would sometimes mention a “Kaoru” who was a fellow club member. The name was familiar to Chisato. But there were many people in the world named Kaoru. And Haneoka was an all-girl’s school. It was a simple coincidence, nothing more.
When Haneoka’s school culture festival came around, the drama club had decided to do a production of Romeo & Juliet. Chisato knew this because Maya had told her. It wasn’t of any particular interest to her, but she listened anyway because that was part of being a good friend, right? Apparently casting had hit a snag, most of the roles had been decided, but the role of Juliet remained open, mainly because this Kaoru, who was playing Romeo, had been very particular about what she wanted in the lead opposite her. And then Maya, sheepishly, admitted to having volunteered her for the part. And Kaoru had apparently been very interested.
Chisato was a film actress mainly, but she was familiar with the nuances of the stage. Initially she had been reluctant to accept, with everyone telling her how amazing it would be to have a celebrity like her at the festival in such an annoyingly patronizing manner, but eventually she caved. She had been told that Kaoru had been eager to see her, and that it was like a lifelong dream to perform side by side with her. That seemed very odd for a simple fan. This Kaoru almost sounded like she was trying to reunite with someone. But that wasn’t possible. That boy was gone. Chisato would never see him again.
At least, that was what she believed until she stepped into Haneoka’s drama clubroom, and there, in the center of the room, a script in hand, was her childhood friend with whom she had parted so painfully. Seta Kaoru.
He--or, she, Chisato supposed--had grown tremendously since they’d last seen each other. She was tall, easily towering over the other club members, and her face had become sharp and handsome. She wore a confident smile as she looked over at Chisato, and as their eyes met she could see the same self-assuredness in her gaze.
This...this was the boy she had known? It was unmistakable, of course, but as Kaoru walked over to her, knelt down, took her hand and kissed it as though she were a princess and spouted off some nonsense about how fate had reunited them, Chisato could never imagine her old friend doing such a thing. This was ridiculous. Kaoru was being ridiculous.
And...and charming. Chisato had long wondered what her single crush on a boy had meant. At some point she had decided that it had merely been a fluke, an exception. But now that it turned out that Kaoru wasn’t a boy after all something awakened in her. Kaoru was a woman. A beautiful, charming, kind of dumb woman. As the culture festival approached and Chisato spent time rehearsing with Kaoru, she started noticing odd things in her body whenever they would go over certain parts. An odd increase in her heartbeat. A slight floatiness in her stomach. Going briefly lightheaded when they would practice their stage kiss. And not even ten minutes until curtain on the day of the performance, it hit her.
She was in love. With Kaoru.
Chisato managed to stave off her feelings of disgust long enough to put on a decent performance, although Kaoru’s ad-libbing certainly tested her. How could this have happened? She had sworn off love, made it so that no force in the universe could ever make her fall in love with anybody, and the universe had conspired to bring her together with someone she was in love with already. Why, why did Kaoru turn out this way? Why was she so beautiful, and why did Chisato’s chest twinge with jealousy as Kaoru would flirt with every girl who passed her by? What had happened to the kind and sensitive and honest Kaoru she had known? Chisato had tested a few times and found a crack or two in this princely persona that Kaoru had developed. She was sure that deep down, Kaoru was still the shy and quiet child she had been. But she was hiding that side of herself. Hiding it under the mask of a bold Shakespearean actor.
When she had first taken the role of Juliet she had struggled to understand the character, her foolish devotion to love. Now, now she knew. She knew what drove her to go against her family to be with her Romeo, even though it had led to tragedy. Would something similar happen to her if she acted on her feelings? Probably nothing as dramatic as suicide, but there were plenty of terrible possible outcomes. She could be blacklisted from the industry for being caught with another woman. And if that were to happen she shuddered to think how her mother would respond. And did Kaoru even return her feelings? Was this all just an act? Was she willing to risk her career, her reputation, over someone who might not even love her back? To an extent she envied Juliet for her courage.
But in her courage Juliet had been a fool. And Chisato was not a fool. Even as Kaoru extended a hand to her she would not take it. No love was worth the ravages it could bring. Love was not something she could ever have, even as it thrummed in her chest.

Until, one day, a mysterious stranger on a quest to rebuild himself rents a room for the winter.
The Cyber Sphere || jacaranda_bloom || Louis/Dermot O'Leary - strangers to lovers - twitter - fluff - 17k The one where Liam likes to think he’s Batman, Dermot has terrible taste in sporting teams, and Louis should really get a cat.

Fresh flowers pinned into his hair and a brand new outfit was all he needed to feel special in front of their few witnesses. It was just some members of his family and a few of the church elders in attendance as was customary for any marriage beyond the first wife within the faith. First wives were the ones to have elaborate weddings with the whole community involved. An alpha’s first wedding was a celebration of an their coming of age, his first steps into fulfilling God’s prophecy. There were many glories for an omega that came with being a first wife but also many responsibilities. Louis had never aspired to be a first wife or even a second. He wasn’t experienced enough to be the leader of an alpha’s many wives and children and he didn’t think he’d be up to the task. Louis was just fine in the position he was stepping into as the seventh. Or Louis thinks he's getting everything he's ever dreamed of. Harry helps him find what makes him truly happy.
Becoming Us || sweariwouldnt || tv series AU - amrried at first sight - miscommuniaction - 59k Married at First Sight is a television show in which hopefuls looking for The One are matched by experts deeming them to be the perfect match. Or, a fic loosely based on Corazon Salvaje.
Orion's Belt || LadyLondonderry || Stylinshaw - a/b/o - soulmates - hurt/comfort - 24k Louis and Nick have been in a happy committed relationship for two years, their matching soulmarks on display for the world to see. Forgive Me This Lie Bigger Than Us || evelynemesis || magic - witch curses - miscommunication - angst - 25k The magic!AU where Louis is cursed to live a life of pain and solitude and Harry just happens to fall in love.
Still Deep In Us || graceling_in_a_suit || fantasy - post-apocalypse - mermaid - mentions of death - mentions of grief - magic - angst - 41k AU. The village Harry has called home his entire life sits on six shaky legs, held aloft from the ocean which claimed the entire world twenty years ago. Harry's just a grieving tinkerer trying to do his best, and Louis is a mermaid that ruins The Village's delicate balance of power (and perhaps, just maybe, wins the heart of a boy).
Hard for me to know i might see you around || Anonymous || Tinder AU - airport - 4k A TINDER AU where Harry swipes left on Louis' joke of a profile, then ends up stuck next to him on a trans-Atlantic flight.

That Mouth of Yours || Awriterwrites || PWP - 3k “Did I–” Louis panted around the sexiest moan Harry thought he had ever heard (at least since the last time Louis moaned–which was about 5 minutes ago). “Did I ever tell you about that guy that I let rim me at one of Liam’s parties in college?” Something dark and furious unfurled inside Harry, making him pull away from the sweet oblivion that was Louis’ arse. “Wh–” He wiped his mouth off on the back of his hand. “What?” Louis shot a smirk over his shoulder. His hair was a mess and his face was flushed and his eyes were glazed over but he was still himself–still teasing. Still a menace beneath angelic blue eyes and a soft voice. “Just some guy. Never got his name.” He turned his head back toward the pillows, giving a slight shake of his arse in Harry’s face. Not that that wasn’t distracting or anything. A little drool slipped out of Harry’s mouth.
Hello My Name Is Harry || abrighteryellow || famous/ not famous - school reunion - 3k Louis’s 20-year high school reunion takes a turn when a celebrity classmate – who also happens to be Louis’s long unrequited crush – unexpectedly shows up. A famous/not-famous AU inspired by Chris Evans.
Challenging Nature: A Look Into Male Lactation || jaerie || lactation kink - male lactation - 11k Even taking into account all the bizarre things Harry has subjected himself to in the past for the sake of an article, Harry has received his strangest assignment yet. It comes up as a random misunderstanding in a meeting and builds into a conversation — can men breastfeed? Internet searches reveal documented cases of male lactation popping up at different times throughout history, but are any of them true? Can a man will himself into lactating? Harry has two months to make it happen.
Freaks from the internet || jaerie || lactation kink - male lactation - a/b/o - exes to lovers - smut - milking - 3k Harry sells his breast milk to freaks on the internet. Louis turns out to be one of those freaks. He also happens to be Harry's ex.
Tied to Fate || littlelouishiccups || ghosts - angst - magic - 52k After his estranged father’s death, Harry inherits a castle in England that has belonged to his family for generations and he knows nothing about. When he breaks up with his boyfriend, Harry decides England is the perfect place for a small vacation. He isn’t prepared to meet Louis Tomlinson, a ghost who once lived in the castle and has haunted it for over five hundred years. He’s even more unprepared to fall in love with him.
I Want You S'more || 2tiedships2 || a/b/o - strangers to lovers - humor - fluff - 17k The one where the least alpha-y alpha and the least omega-y omega show that secondary genders aren’t set in stone and sometimes it works when you kinda share that.
His and Mine || glitteredcurls || soulmate-identifying marks - dystopia - mentions of surgery - religious imagery Á symbolism - 66k Harry legally isn't supposed to meet his soulmate-- he's rendered physically unable to recognize him even if he did-- but yet, of course, he does.
Salvation Let's Their Wings Unfold || twoshipstiedup || fantasy - angels - demons - fluff - humor - 14k Harry is an ex demon who gets banished back to Earth. Louis is an angel who gets sent down there for work. Naturally, they end up together.
Found My Hallelujah || Anonymous || cruise ship - hurt/comfort - pining - 34k As an engagement gift from his parents, Harry and his fiance receive an all expenses paid cruise trip for two. But one week before they're set to sail, Harry walks in on his fiance cheating on him. Newly single, with the cruise tickets in hand, and his bags already packed, Harry brings along his sister instead. And maybe the cute bartender on the ship might just be the person Harry needs to help him put back together all of his broken pieces.
Under the Moonlight || Anonymous || friends to lovers - fluff - fake/pretend relationship - mutual pining - 15k Harry and Louis have been friends online for years. They've never met despite living only a few hours from one another. One fateful summer a silly little lie, a family vacation and an accidental meet up lead to a week of fake dating on Mallorca. All in all, a holiday Louis won't easily forget.
