Act 1 Chapter 2 Part 2.1

Magnolia Promenade – Sunday, January 7th, 2024

Miles away, the Satos also enjoyed their first family dinner. Of course, Mr. Sato was nowhere to be seen, a common occurrence in this family. Instead, two other people joined their meal.

After a troubling conversation with her husband, Ken, Marlene looked forward to spending this night with her family. She wasn’t ready to start this ‘intensive investigation’ into her family’s past but she understood it was necessary step to uncover who was stalking them. But before that fiasco, Marlene forged a smile and raised her glass.

“Tonight let’s celebrate my handsome nephew, Kion, and his return to Willow Creek. I understand that a redirection in life may be unsettling but Kion returns a new man with a new girlfriend and child. I think the growth of his family and subsequently, the growth of our own, is quite beautiful! Welcome home!” Marlene toasted.

“I can drink to that!” Kion said with glee while the family took a polite sip of the aged red wine.

“Where is that girlfriend of yours?” Ken Jr asked. Out of everyone here, KJ was the most excited to have his favorite (and only) cousin back.

“She’ll be here any moment. She got caught up at work.” Kion answered and chased his answer with another sip of wine. Marlene couldn’t help but to catch her sister’s eye. She heard a few things about the new girlfriend.

“You guys are gonna love her! Right mom?” Kion asked.

“Right,” Sabrina answered and then quickly washed her lie down with another sip of wine.

“I’m sure we will. Everyone was so accepting when I starting bringing Natalia around. No worries, champ.” KJ said in an attempt to comfort his cousin. Although that was true, Marlene shared a similar uneasiness about Natalia that Sabrina had for Kion’s new girlfriend.

To Marlene, Natalia was nothing special. Sure, she was cute but that was it. She wasn’t witty, charming, or intelligent. She was just …bland. Eventually, Marlene learned to accept that her son had settled for a dough faced girl who was nothing special. Just a girl.

At the far side of the table sat Evelyn Sato. She was still taking in the presence of everyone gathered together. She had spent years away from her family so the reintroduction of “family dinners” was tough. In the last few weeks of being home, Evelyn had mastered adding meaningless commentary to every conversation to mask her disinterest in whatever her family blabbed about. Weddings, grandchildren, business ideas, vacations… None of it interested her.

She twirled her nearly full glass of wine. Just one glass tonight should be alright, right?

“Ev,” it was Aunt Sabrina who broke Evelyn out of her thoughts. “What’s it like working with your dad?”

Evelyn released a deep exhale which only made Sabrina laugh. Sabrina was well aware that her brother-in-law was an uptight asshole in and out of the office, but she didn’t think it would only take a few days for the daddy-daughter duo to bump heads.

“If you’re looking for work, you’re always welcome at Fox and Associates.” Sabrina offered.

Being a lawyer was Evelyn’s long lost dream. She always imagined herself in court fighting for innocent people like Aunty Brina did. It wasn’t until Evelyn got to college that she got a taste of being an actual criminal defense lawyer. She definitely couldn’t imagine herself doing this for the rest of her life. But for a couple hours a day, just to get away from her father, she would definitely reconsider.

“Evelyn wouldn’t hate it that much if she actually cared.” Ken interjected.

For the next few ten minutes, the siblings argued over how boring the makeup of a computer chip actually could be.

“Baby!” The voice silenced the siblings as a woman walked up to the table and kissed Kion’s cheek.

“Hi everyone, I’m Cheyenne,” the woman introduced herself as she sat down at the table.

The family warmly greeted her back. Well, mostly everyone.

Kion introduced everyone at the table to Cheyenne. Immediately, Cheyenne took a liking to the other outsider, Natalia.

“How did you two meet?” Cheyenne asked.

“Oh, the typical way. Social Bunny. He ‘accidentally’ sent me a friend request and then ‘accidentally’ liked all my pictures and posts. Then he sent me a message saying he thought he knew me and we just started talking all the time. How about you guys?” KJ snickered as Natalia retold the story.

“At a club.”

“He saw me first”

“but I approached him first”

“we danced together”

“and the rest is history”

A Chaotic Surprise

as told by Marguerite Adélie Chrysanthe.

Summary: In which Adélie is in for a wee night of chaotic surprise.

Late 2021,

Tokyo, Japan.

At the crack of dawn,

PHASE 4,

Ep. 7

Surprise cracked into her soft features as the brunette lady struggles to regain her composure, tremors striking her limbs.

“You truly are your mother’s daughter.”

If he notices, Michael aims to further damage her world even further. It already shatters into smithereens.

Eyes glazing over, she grapples with the revelation, in the fullness of time, grasping why he is truly blunt with his distaste of her.

“If only Evelyn’s truly mine.”

His mention of her name lit a match in her heart, blazing into her eyes. Why, why must he bring her into their mutual aversion?

“Don’t,” Adélie halted, as though the word pain her to even breathe it out, willing herself not to cower. “bring her into this.”

A smirk crinkles his face. Michael had been known for his ruthlessness, the endless land he owns only elevate his bachelor status.

“We both know she would do so much better than you,” a short few years ago, Adélie would cry each time he chided and reprimanded her.

There seems to be no right in his eyes, nothing she ever achieves and does to be meeting his approval.

Even when she managed to become the top student while continuing her dance practice and acing in both departments.

Adélie stopped trying then. Simply doing what she does, for herself. For Evelyn’s sake, too. Her happiness matters the most.

Settling in their secretly bought place, which soon became her piece of personal heaven, Adélie thought she could escape his wrath.

Michael, of course, would never let her live in peace, so long as he is walking and breathing on this earth.

The last few years went by with no hitch. In the beginning, she keeps on looking over her shoulder, wary of her past catching up to her present.

It proves to come a couple of years late. Here it is, in front of her. The very thing she dreads to face.

His approval is what she seeks. Adélie used to do everything she thought would make him happy, and proud of her.

He never seems to approve of anything she does. A scrap of validation had been what she craves.

Ever since Maria’s well-kept secret had resurfaced, he grows even more bitter and even repulsed by her mere presence.

Adélie eventually learns the hard way, that she cannot make everyone happy. If he chooses to actively abhor her, so be it.

Fury in his eyes scared her to no end. Adélie never even pretended to be nonchalant about it, knowing the stature he holds.

Michael is dubbed one of the most ruthless entrepreneurs out there. He leads the family the way he does his business.

Somehow, there is some softness, some gentleness spared for everyone else, compared to how he treated Adélie.

Pain colored her childhood. Upon some harder days, he didn’t hesitate to give her a beating. It hurt everywhere.

Adélie refused to let him see her cry. He would never get the satisfaction, she would never give him that.

Aunt Olga occasionally made some quips that aid her to put the pieces together, as jumbled as the wires are.

“Yukio had always been that way,” she would remark. Venom drips out her tongue. “Such a stubborn mule.”

To the best of her ability, Sato Olga would defend Adélie and ensure she feels safe and warm, at the very least around the older lady.

Unfortunately, Akari did not possess the strength nor the luck to be protected, even by those supposed to.

Hence the falling dominoes, a series of events that lead to who she is becoming. Lessons were taught; ones that forged her.

Maria, sweet as she was, had been swallowed whole with his bitterness and ever-growing greediness.

Along the ride, she tried her best to keep the kids safe, somehow. It proved to be hard. Adélie never held it against her.

It’s important to note that in season one, Todd, Jake, Sebastian, and Maddison are in junior year in this AU and they’re all around the same age. Tommy and Noah are in sophomore year All the class A kids + Hannah are in freshman year

FAMILIES

The Matthews / Yorks: Isabelle and Ian Matthews are mother and son, Ian’s father left when he was a child. In season 2 Isabelle started dating Ian’s art teacher (Trevor York) which Ian was very divided over for a while, on one hand he admired and loved his teacher since he aspired to be a cartoonist, on the other hand it was awkward af. Regardless, in season 3 when Ian went into junior year, the two got married

The Adams: Samson and Michael are a gay couple that met at the high school they worked at, they married soon after and adopted a kid (Evelyn.) though, around when a new year was starting, they started fostering a 14 year old boy (Hunter) who would be going into freshman year at that same high school. Of course in around the end of season two they had to make a difficult decision of whether to adopt hunter or not, they ended up doing it at the beginning of season 3.

The Thornes: Oh boy, where do I start- Edward has three sons and a daughter. All of his sons are still in high school in season one; Sean in freshman, Noah in sophomore, Todd in junior. His daughter (Felice) is in college trying to get a degree in education, so we don’t see much of her. Edward's wife is in a mental hospital after multiple manic breakdowns when their kids were little, due to her corrupted mental heath probably mainly caused by Edward abusing her for over 10 years. They’re one of the richest families in the city/state due to Edward’s major companies and investments.

The Stevens: Oliver owns a bar, he’s seen it all, heard it all, and is so done with it all. When he had just opened said bar, he was a really friendly guy so almost everyone liked him. A year or so later someone apparently like him so much they let an unwanted baby literally in front of the bar with a note. And him being the sympathetic person he was, basically took in the kid, though he wasn’t the best at getting through to him. Tommy usually spent his days locked up in his room and playing video games, occasionally even trying to draw though he was terrible at it which lowered his self confidence even more.

CLICHÉ RELATIONSHIPS BUT SOME ARE GAY

Kyle x Ian (BkDk) Jock x Nerd Main relationship, they get together and break up like 4 times but are back together at the end of the last season.

Hannah x Olivia (TogaChako) Horse girl x Popular cheerleader Secondary main relationship that pops up around season 3-ish when Olivia finally backs off of Kyle and starts having a sexuality crisis when she meets Hannah

Tommy x Todd (ShigaDabi) Gamer boy x Bad boy This relationship was pretty heavily implied ever since the characters were introduced and only confirmed, as something that had been going on for a while, in season 2 right before Todd graduated.

Sean x Monica (TodoMomo) Rich boy x Rich girl Relationship that started in season 2, mostly because both their families own major companies and they were pressured into being with each other. It lasted until season five but halfway through they started faking their relationship due to Monica figuring out she had feelings for someone else and Sean figuring out he was asexual and romantic.

Monica x KJ (MomoJirou) Rich girl x Punk KJ always had feelings for Monica and helped her accept herself in the middle of season 3 which was around when Monica figured out she had feelings for her back. This is what caused her and Sean to decide to start ‘fake dating’ because of their parents. It was mostly for Sean’s sake, though Monica wasn’t exactly keen on coming out to her parents either. The two also started secretly dating, the four keeping up the act until they went off to college.

Ethan x Mina (KiriMina) Jock x Dancer Started at the end of season 1 and went strong throughout the series (with a couple rough patches)

Hunter x Devin (ShinKami) Alt kid x Jock Casual relationship that started somewhere around season 2 or 3. Not a lot of people know and they just keep it pretty quiet for a while until season 4 when they make it more official.

OVERALL SHIT PLOT

Ian wants to be a comic artist and he always doodles in his notebook, he’s been trying to get things published since forever. Eventually, he gets recruited to make a short daily comic strip for their high school news paper, and he gets a lot more attention than he used to plus some art friends.

The main relationship the series focuses on is that of Ian and Kyle. They’ve known each other since childhood and around middle school Kyle distanced himself from Ian and would make-fun of him a lot, nothing too bad but some standard jerk-like behavior. Lately though, Kyle’s shifted more to stopping Ian in his path just to flirt with him, in his own way of course. Which still involved a lot of teasing and annoying, getting all up in his face just so he could see Ian turn red.
