Guys, I’ve read the Wild Robot
Tumblr media
And let me tell you, if I hadn’t recently taken a Children’s Literature class in college, I would’ve said this was the best middle-grade book I’ve read since elementary/middle school. I almost read this book in one night (I was sleepy 😴) like I couldn’t put it down.
The heart behind this book is astounding and it never shies away from showing complex and difficult concepts. You will fall in love with Roz and her gosling son along with all of the other animal on the island.
If you’ve got younger ones, I highly recommend reading this to them or having a little book club moment with them. However, be prepared for whatever hard questions may come your way (i.e. circle of life and climate issues). You know your child and how much they can handle/understand. If you’re like me and much older, it’s a quick read and a great way to finish off a long day. It’s a part of a trilogy and you bet I’m patiently waiting for my hold on a copy at the library.
If the movie is anything like the book (which, given a rewatch of the trailer, it’s looking like so), we are in for a special treat.

Little Bumblebee doesn't stop talking when Ratchet examines him. He tells everything: what the Elite is doing, what Optimus is doing in the office, how long Prime was writing papers, how many of them there were, where they lie, where he and the Elite went
Ratchet: I don't think it's very good that he's spilling everything about you.
Optimus: We taught him not to lie. Apparently we overdid it
Ratchet: That's for sure. Bumblebee, do you know the password to the safe where Opi has the documents?
Bumblebee: Yes! 54..
They put their hand over Bumblebee's mouth

WATCHING AND DREAMING SPOILERS BELOW!
⚠️⚠️⚠️
of all the things in WaD that i enjoyed (and there was a LOT i enjoyed) the thing that struck me the most was the horror elements
like, Belo's transformation after fusing with the heart, and his subsequent being ripped out of it. hell, Belos across the series is incredibly good body horror in a way that is subtle, but it really shined in the finale, right up unto his bloodless but incredibly grueling death in the acidic rain of the Demon Realm.
the way the Boiling Isles changes and morphed, growing eyes and turning to fungus and rot. morphing the landscape and even the PEOPLE it touches. reminds me a lot of Caelid in Elden Ring, which is a good thing because CAELID IS FREAKING TERRIFYING to me, but also very fascinating.
i have to give props to the animators and designers and everyone who worked on even a fraction of the second of it, they did amazing work bringing this horror to life... or... death?

just randomly unearthed an unhinged memory so im sharing it because its also kinda funny. so basically when i was like 10 i used to write really bad fanfic on my parents ipad. like REALLY bad, very obviously written by some little kid, and for some reason i started a multi chapter fic about lady and the tramp?? i have no idea why i did that since i didnt even like the movie that much. so then randomly someone who was famous in the cats fandom (i was really into cats the musical for some reason. its weird that im not a furry honestly) asked me if they could do a MSTing of my fic and i was like sure :o) (has never heard that word before but an adult is talking to me so i smile and nod) so they basically write a running sitcom commentary over my fic which honestly was very harmless in hindsight but it absolutely SHATTERED tween me’s confidence. i commented on that persons fic like haha very funny!! i can take a joke!!! and then i never posted anything on that account ever again. that fic is forever stuck at 1/? 300 words. and i wonder if that person is haunted by what they did. did they wait for the next update just to make fun of that too and then it never came? did they have to carry the weight of what they did on their shoulders forever or did they never even notice? did it feel good to have that power?? anyways then i didnt do any creative writing for like ten years until the macden mental illness got too bad. and the funniest thing of all is the fact that their cats fanfic sucked balls. and they were in their twenties so they had NO excuse!!!

it is kinda funny watching some people be like “yeah i didn’t really feel invested in s2 of heartstopper :/ i loved s1 but for some reason i just don’t care as much now” and it’s like. yeah. i think the reason is that you are now in your 20s

sucks how many “won’t anyone think of the children” types of movements are extremely reactionary, because children grow up in extremely undemocratic and unfair circumstances that they are structurally prohibited from leaving until they’re legal adults, long after damage to them is done. people will call you insane for saying that raising children in a nuclear family unit is horrifically unfair (and very, very frequently violent and traumatising), and a lot of children’s rights movements in the popular imaginary focus on like, preventing kids from knowing about sex or trans people or racism instead of like, abolishing childhood poverty or eliminating abuse within the home

IMDb review for an animated movie made specifically for abused and orphaned children. "I do not think any child would have liked the approach of this film," an hilarious way of saying you've never met anyone with a rough family life.
The movie is extremely raw but also filled with themes of hope and comfort. The main character got taken away because his alcoholic mom fell to her death while trying to go up his room to beat him, the others all had their own traumatic experiences, one having drug addicted and neglectful parents, another having a mother who was too mentally ill to continue to care for him, one whose mother was deported and unable to take her, one whose father ended up in jail after robbing a store to try to provide for him, one who was sexually abused by her father from a young age and one who witnessed the murder-suicide of her parents. This all the while being shown through the lens of children, children who've lived through those experiences but are too young to fully understand the complexities and implications of those situations.
All are realistic scenarios that millions of children have dealt with but which are very rarely addressed in media aimed at kids. Furthermore, tons of kids feel completely alienated by movies and shows where characters their age face no sort of family struggle.
"My life as a Zucchini" is everything but average. If you can't grapple with its message, you've most likely lived a rather sheltered life. To think that kids and, frankly, anyone else who faced similar problems in the past, wouldn't appreciate this film is beyond amusing.

this isn’t even about pedro pascal just a series of thoughts i’ve had about rising media trends and perhaps the unintended impacts of evolving cultural perceptions as the pendulum swings back and forth between progressive ideas and conservative agendas that ultimately puts the boundaries of individuals (not just celebrities) on the altar of capitalism
(also i’m bad at graphs so excuse the background i thought it looked pretty)
