This is a very heartwarming story!
I'm not involved in politics and I don't remember the exact date of my first visit to Cortes Island. I visited Cortes because someone on another BC island suggested it would be a better film location. - Hubert Hugh Burke

I love the Fool's Fare playlist (and fic). I'd love to suggest some songs for it, (only if you feel they fit the vibe) Shelter from the Storm by Bob Dylan, Will and Elizabeth by Klaus Badelt. Bitter Water by The Oh Hellos and Rises the Moon by Liana Flores feels very Jake pre-meeting Guppy? The Woods by Cosmo Sheldrake & Erin Robinsong I think fits the vibe too.
Also, I feel like The Diving Bell by The Crane Wives fits Jake and Skipper so well and Water Witch by The Secret Sisters and Brandi Carlile is very, very Meet Me at the Sea coded.
Sorry for the long message. 💗
Toph, you heard the assignment and then went and absolutely knocked it out of the park!!
I'm always looking for song suggestions for my fics, and these were absolutely perfect!! 💛

— Trees That Wheep: the playlist
“Within the four realms of Lustra lay the Bangtan forest home to the Foxglove pack of the north and known as the “land of magic.” It is also home to the Bridd, a powerful witch from a cursed bloodline who is one of the sacred guardians of the forest. Y/N is the newest Bridd, a young girl who was given her position too early. Now a woman, Y/N is revered amongst the wolves as the most powerful witch they had ever known, but hiding under the surface is a woman who has to battle between her duty and her heart.”

Wet Dream by Erin Robinsong - Poetry Book Review (Binh)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thoroughly sensitive, sensual and candid, Erin Robinsong’s Wet Dream calls for introspection by tracing out new surfaces for ecological thinking and body consciousness in a world that perpetually burns through its own liquidity.
Driven by ecological imagination, Robinsong’s previous works, Rag Cosmology (2017) and Liquidity (2020), opened an exploration of the personal relationship that binds ecology to the cosmos while redefining the space that our bodies navigate under an ecosystem that is in constant transition. With the same burst of vitality, Wet Dream continues to tackle ecological concerns by digging into the layers of dualism that co-exist in our environment – matter and imagination, wetness and dream, moisture and consciousness, etc. – while attentively piecing together a framework that challenges our conception of agency. Robinsong's attention to the body, to its elements and to its physical responses to climate horrors, isolation and vulnerability carries this poetry collection with gentle, yet wise hands; its language of liquidity and sensibility feeding a tide that ultimately carries us back to ourselves.
BLOGGER'S REVIEW:
After three years of lockdown, of continuous change amidst continuous immobility, and of self-imposed self-awareness in isolation, I wasn't particularly excited at the idea of picking up a poetry collection that called, once again, for introspection in the context of the pandemic. Although charmed by Robinsong's creative process and certainly intrigued by the concept of ecological imagination, thinking about my body and its trauma while it is still recovering from the transitional period we navigated as 1) an ecosystem, 2) a society and 3) a community, was a step back into a state of vulnerability I wasn't eager to take. In a way, we grieve our bodies several times a year – especially as women. Without even realizing it, our bodies are constantly adapting to our environment, our emotions and our psychological responses to change. Although we may not always realize it, we constantly mourn what is familiar in order to move forward and redefine our identity. So why disturb an old wound in the midst of recovery? And would this disturbance interrupt the cycle of grief and healing that makes my body what it is?
While pondering about whether or not I wanted to dive into this collection of poems, I came across Robinsong's interview with Open Book in which she talks about how Wet Dream came to be. When asked about the role of water in the conceptualization of her work, she explains how she became interested in the idea that water carries its own memories – its own body of experiences and perception that flows within our own. Everything that is alive is wet, in one way or another, and everything that is alive keeps moving while carrying the same body, as well as many more, through time. Although we go through multiple cycles of change throughout the year, we are also inhabited with a stream of past experiences that shape the way we navigate our environment. Whether we let them go or keep carrying them doesn't matter, as long as their pulse moved us somehow. Through this collection of poems, I was excited to come across a new way to perceive the body; not only through its history of change and mourning but through its history as a whole. Robinsong's philosophy of liquidity convinced me to open a wound, not to discover more surfaces to grieve, but to reach where the water is already flowing and engorged with memory.
If, just like me, you are interested in the concept of the body and its geography of sadness, grief and movement, I recommend you take a closer look at 'Everything you forget', 'Transformance 2' and 'Kitchen Danceparty' from this collection. You'll find that much like water, our body and its consciousness are moved by a pulse of agency carries us more often than we do.
