Peter would like to think he’d grown a thick skin over the past four years.
You could say it was a requirement for dating Tony Stark.
During those first few months he’d been coached by the Stark Industries’ PR team, as well as the man himself, over how to deal with the media and the public. He knew that there would always be tabloids stirring up trouble. Peter himself had been the centre of three supposed scandals himself during the past year alone. He knew that they flat-out lied and embellished the truth.
He’d learned long ago to ignore the headlines.
He and Tony were happy together. They had been from day one and Peter didn’t need other people getting in the way of that.
Of course, Peter was aware of Tony’s past. Tony was notorious for his playboy antics. The genius was capable of many things but holding a steady, long-term relationship had never been one of them. Until Peter.
Before Peter, Tony had been a self-proclaimed man-whore, working his way through a string of partners each weekend. But that had all changed when they started dating. Tony was attentive. He would always make time for him. He was open and honest, and Peter had never been happier.
Until a month ago.
With seemingly no cause, Tony had grown distant. He began working longer hours and didn’t want Peter in the lab to tinker while he completed SI projects. Tony would lock himself away in his office for hours at a time. He’d claimed to be heading out to meet up with Rhodey on multiple occasions, but Peter had bumped into Rhodey at the Compound and the colonel had mentioned not seeing Tony in almost three weeks since the man had been so busy.
Peter tried not to jump to conclusions, but Tony was lying to him, and he didn’t know why.
Despite his internal turmoil, Peter liked to think he could be quite level-headed, and he knew he shouldn’t read the tabloids in the first place, but all it took was one headline with an accompanying picture, and he found himself in the back of an Uber on his way to May’s apartment, the stupid article laying open on his phone as he fought back tears and tried to ignore the drivers staring.
Tony Stark spotted entering apartment of unknown male – Does this spell the end of the nations beloved Starker?
Below the headline was a grainy picture that clearly showed Tony walking with a younger, blonde man, his hand on the youngers lower back as they entered an elevator. Tony was in the suit he’d been wearing that morning when he claimed to be going out for brunch with Happy and Rhodey – neither of whom were anywhere in the photo. To make it worse, he’d also passed Happy when he was leaving the Tower. The head of security had been keeping his usual visual over the lobby. Peter had quickly turned his head before the man could talk to him, not wanting him to see the tears blurring his eyes.
Stepping out of the Uber, he felt multiple heads turn his way as he quickly made his way into the apartment building. Adam from the second floor started trying to offer his sympathies before Peter rushed past him on the stairs to get to May’s before he completely fell apart.
It took him three tries to get his key in the door, but it meant as soon as the door was open, May was already on the other side, quickly pulling him in for a hug as he kicked the door shut behind him. As soon as his head hit May’s shoulder, the sobs he’d been holding back were let loose. His shoulders hitching as he gasped for breath, May’s hand rubbing soothing circles into his back as she muttered reassurances.
Peter’s not sure how long they stood there but eventually his sobs began to subside, and May led him to the couch while she moved to the kitchen to get them some tea. Once they were both curled up on the couch and nursing their teas, a heavy silence fell over them. Each lost in their own thoughts.
Of course, it was in that silence that Tony would decide to call. Peter’s phone lighting up with a picture of Tony when he’d fallen asleep in the lab. The picture that just an hour ago would have brought a smile to his face now caused a lump in his throat. Declining the call, Peter put his phone on silent before sliding it onto the coffee table face-down.
“What am I supposed to do, May?” he asked, ignoring the way his voice cracked. “I thought we were happy, but he’s been so secretive recently. Do you think it’s been going on the entire time? His– His affair?”
Taking the tea out of his hands, May guided him to cuddle into her side and pressed a kiss to his forehead.
“I don’t know, Peter. We don’t know what’s even happening, but we’ll figure it out. You’re not in this alone. And none of this is a reflection of you, okay? It might not even be what you think. You know the tabloids are a shit news source.”
“Yeah, but whoever that guy was, was clearly not Happy or Rhodey. Why lie about it if he’s not doing something he shouldn’t?”
“I don’t know,” May sighed. “I really wish I had a better answer for you, baby.”
“It’s okay… Can I stay here tonight?”
“Of course, you know you’re always welcome here. What do you say I order some Thai, we put on a movie and have some ice-cream for dessert?”
“Sounds good,” he replied, grabbing a tissue to blow his nose while May phoned in their order.
Grabbing his phone, he swiped passed the notifications of the six missed calls and ten texts from Tony, to respond to Ned who wanted to check on him. Given he wasn’t really sure how he was feeling, he kept it vague and just let his best friend know he was safe with his aunt, and he’d call him in the morning.
Once May returned to the couch, Peter had already queued up the first of the Star Wars movies, hoping to lose himself in the familiarity of the original trilogy. Curling up together on the couch, they only moved to get the food from the delivery driver and to then switch out the takeout containers for tubs of ice cream.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Peter must have fallen asleep at some point during the third movie, as the last thing he remembered was Luke being taken to the Emperor. Blinking into the dim light of the living room, he tried to work out what had woken him.
He didn’t have to think for long.
May was at the door. Squinting at the clock, he froze. Who would be at the door at three in the morning?
“I already said no,” May whispered. “You’re not going to change my mind.”
“Please, May,” a voice begged. Peter gripped onto the blanket tighter. He knew that voice and it made him want to cry. “I don’t know what you read, but you have to know that’s its not true. You know me! I wouldn’t–“
“What I know,” May interrupted him. “Is that my kid is heartbroken and confused. You’ve been lying to him for who knows how long, and he had to learn about it from an article?”
“I–“
“I’m not done. I know you’re a busy man, that you have to work long hours or go away on business trips. Hell, I’d even understand if you have some top-secret government bullshit going on, but you don’t lie to my boy, Mr. Stark.”
“It’s not like that–“
“Oh, really? So please, pray tell, who is the blonde boy in the photo? Is that Rhodey or Happy, because unless they’ve changed their look in the past month I think you were clearly lying.”
“He’s– May, I was going to come to you, I swear. It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. But the man in the photo? That’s Randall. He’s a jeweller. A bespoke jeweller. He’s been designing me an engagement ring. We were going to his private workshop to see the final piece. It’s… God, it’s perfect and I was going to come by tomorrow for you to see it and to ask your blessing and then at the weekend I…Please, May. You have to believe me,” Tony begged.
Peter sucked in a breath as he realised he’d been holding his breath while listening to their hushed conversation. Neither of them was aware he was listening in on them. He didn’t know what to think. Tony sounded genuine. He sounded on the verge of tears if his ragged breathing and rough voice were anything to go by.
Grabbing his phone, he hid it under the blanket before checking his messages. His phone had been inundated with missed calls and a wall of texts from Tony. The messages themselves growing more frantic the longer he went without a response.
Tony’s explanation would certainly make sense, but was he simply being naïve?
In recent months, Tony had talked more openly about settling down, that’s what had made the perceived betrayal that much harder. Was it possible that this was all one big misunderstanding?
“It’s not my place to believe you, Tony. Even if you had the best of intentions, you fucked up. Peter is his own person and if that’s truly how you feel then its entirely up to him. For what its worth, before today I’d say go for it. After your stunt this morning, I’m angry that your desire to keep it a secret hurt my boy, but if – and I mean if – he decides to forgive you, then so will I.”
Tony exhaled loudly as if he’d been holding his breath for May’s verdict. Like a prisoner walking to the executioner’s block and awaiting his sentence.
“Thank you, May.”
“Now, it’s the middle of the night and Peter is sleeping so go home. He’ll still be here in the morning if you want to try talking to him then.”
“Okay. I will. I promise I’m going to make this better. I–”
Before Peter could even think about what he was doing, he found his feet carrying him to stand behind May. Tony cut off whatever he was about to say in order to stare at him, which also drew his aunts’ attention.
“Peter,” May exclaimed. “I’m so sorry, did we wake you? He was just–“
“I, uh, I’ve been up for a bit…” he shrugged self-consciously, suddenly nervous to admit he’d been eavesdropping.
Tony’s face fell, as he bashfully asked, “So, you heard me when I said who the guy was?”
Huffing a humourless laugh, he nodded.
“Oh,” Tony breathed, suddenly looking very unsure of himself. “Okay.”
“Why don’t we all just get some rest and start fresh in the morning, huh?” May asked, her eyes wide and slightly manic from the odd hour and the emotional charge in the air.
“I, um, I’d actually rather hear what Tony has to say?” Peter mumbled, taking a deep breath before meeting Tony’s eye. “Do you want to come in?”
“Of course. Yes. Please. Yeah. I mean, if it’s okay?” Tony glanced at May and waited for a nod before he stepped into the apartment and closed the door behind him.
Staring pointedly at his aunt who was making no move to leave the pair alone, Peter rolled his eyes before guiding Tony into his bedroom. Closing the door behind them, he was aware of the tension in Tony’s shoulders as the man stood stiffly with his back to the window. Peter couldn’t tell which one of them was more nervous.
“I’m sorry for–“
“I’m sorry that–“
They both froze when they started speaking at the same time, chuckling quietly at the following awkward silence.
Exhaling through his nose, Peter took a step forward.
“I’m going to go first,” Tony nodded his agreement but watching him warily as Peter continued. “I’m sorry that I jumped to conclusions. I know better than to believe the stupid tabloids, but you’ve been so flaky this past month that I just assumed the worst. That’s not fair on you. Regardless of what I thought was going on, I should have asked you about it. I should have talked to you and instead I reacted and then ghosted you. You didn’t deserve that.”
“It’s okay,” Tony was quick to reassure him. “I mean, yes, it hurt. But I could have handled it all so much better. I should have realised that you weren’t happy and that me wanting to surprise you wasn’t worth me losing your trust. I, urgh,” Tony groaned, dragging his hands across his face. “This is not how it was supposed to happen, but obviously the cat is now out of the proverbial bag. I’m sorry for keeping it all a secret and being an inconsiderate jerk this past month. But as you now know, I was working with Randall – who you would love by the way – to design an engagement ring. There were lots of back and forth emails and calls over design ideas and then I wanted to incorporate some of my mom’s diamonds into it – which I know sounds corny, and I’m not exactly the sentimental type, but I thought you’d like it and I, well, can’t say I mind the idea of it. But anyway, my point being, that all of that secrecy led to today where I finally got to see it in person and well–“ Tony took a shaky inhale as he dropped to one knee, his hand pulling out a black velvet ring box and holding it out to Peter as he opened it, “–Peter Benjamin Parker, will you do me the absolute honour of being my husband? I promise I may not be perfect, but I will spend everyday of the rest of my life ensuring that you know how important you are to me.”
Peter didn’t know what to say.
The ring was gorgeous. The perfect blend of masculine and feminine, delicate enough to not look gawdy but still impressive. There was no doubting, however, that a billionaire had been involved in the design. Dragging his eyes from the ring, he was met with Tony’s vulnerability.
Peter knew without a doubt that Tony had probably planned some big proposal. That he’d have had it all organised and pulled out all the shots. He’d never have wanted to do it like this. So bare and simple, but to Peter it was perfect. Nothing to distract them from the moment.
It wasn’t until Tony swallowed unsurely, his eyes crinkling in concern, that Peter realised he still hadn’t responded. Hadn’t given any indication of a possible answer.
Instead, he stood frozen with a hand covering his mouth. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d been on such an emotional rollercoaster over a twenty-four-hour window. When he’d woken that morning, he’d been worried about Tony’s recent behaviour and had tried to convince himself he’d been overthinking things, but after he read the article, he’d practically fallen apart. He’d been distraught in his belief that Tony could cheat on him. It had felt like his world was ending and his chest was going to break open when he’d curled up on his aunt’s couch searching for comfort. The relief that seeped into his bones at hearing Tony’s explanation had left him feeling lighter than air, and now, with his boyfriend on his knee in front of him, asking for his hand in marriage, he didn’t even have the words to describe the feeling. He felt like a helium balloon ready to burst, that if he opened his mouth the only sound to escape would be a high-pitched squeal. He simultaneously wanted to jump up and down and shout to the world while also launch himself into the man’s arms.
Sucking in a steadying breath, he allowed his hand to slowly drop to his side, before hesitantly nodding his head.
Things weren’t perfect between them, but they never would be. There would always be another problem. Another bump in the road. It was the nature of relationships. They were messy. People were messy. But if today had taught him anything it was that he wanted Tony to be by his side for all the twists and turns they would face.
He wanted to face them together.
If he wanted to wait until they had the perfect relationship to get engaged, then he’d be waiting his entire life.
Tony’s lips twitched into the start of a smile, “Is that a yes?”
Knowing there was no other answer that he could possibly give, Peter couldn’t contain his shout of yes before finally giving into the urge to launch himself into Tony’s arms. Knocking the man off balance, they both crumpled to the floor, locked in each other’s arms.

Clownery
B - A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind
Matt/Peter. I’ve always liked their dynamic but the Zdarksy run has me obsessed with them
D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t (again: be nice)
None really, I either like it or I don’t
S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon (prompts optional but encouraged)
Peter Parker is Jewish
M - Say something genuinely nice about a ship that you don’t ship (or its shippers, or anything related to you)
I think Starker is weird as hell (since this is a ship that flat out did not exist in any strong capacity before the MCU) but one thing about them, they stay in their fucking lane. It makes me Uncomfortable and I think it’s weird as fuck but I’ve never once heard a story of them harassing people
Irondad on the other hand,,,,

I felt that post of yours about the Dracula fandom and the way it talks about adaptations tbh, like, I'm someone who was very involved in DD last year and I've written critique myself about Dracula adaptations bc I love comparative analysis and really thinking about the choices adaptations make, for good or for ill, but from my personal experience, a lot of fandom commentary on adaptations isn't really thoughtful analysis, and don't get me wrong, I'm a hater sometimes too and enjoying venting, but I noticed that this year, there were so many posts that started out as thoughtful commentary on the book, then launched into bitching about the evils of adaptations out of nowhere, and people can write what they want, but it got tiring after awhile to be in a fandom with so much angry energy, not to mention the divergence in canon vs fanon that was much starker this year that made me feel like I had read a different book.
Also, every time I see people point at re: Dracula to be like, see, it's so easy to do a perfect 1:1 adaptation of the novel, why can't other adaptations do it?, it's like, it's an audiobook, a movie can't be that long, even a television mini-series would have to make cuts. And I might dislike a lot of choices adaptations make, but creatives absolutely have the right to take a public domain work and put their own spin on things beyond book accuracy as the number one goal - and like, do we truly want a 100% accurate adaptation when the novel is still ultimately a xenophobic reverse invasion story? Like, I would hope modern directors would seriously grapple with those aspects of the original story instead of reproducing Victorian bigotry unquestioned.
Hi, thank you for your response! I'm glad that my post resonated with a few people!
I definitely also felt a shift in energy with this season of Dracula Daily, and I'm pretty sure it is a direct result of the phenomena that is Re: Dracula. Don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE supporter of RE: Dracula, and I found it to be absolutely delightful specifically because it was a 1:1 adaptation of the book, but I also think that it has skewed the way people engage with all the other adaptations of Dracula. You are so right when you say that Re: Dracula's media as audiobook is what allowed it to be so authentic. Even if it was a long-form series, there would have to be creative liberties taken to account for visualising certain aspects of the text. I am 100% sure someone would be able to do it, but it would undoubtedly be a labour of love and expense.
I think the biggest thing that got lost in translation in my post is that I was speaking specifically on the rhetoric of "bad adaptation = bad media." I don't even like to use the term "bad adaptation" because it feels inaccurate and gives the connotation of being holistically terrible; "failed adaptation" or "inauthentic adaptation" seems more apt when discussing how close an adaptation relates to the source material. I think it is unfair for any adaptation to be written off solely on the fact that it does not strictly adhere to the original text. This can be in way of narrative, characterization, theme, etc. I don't think it's fair to say "x adaptation is bad because it ignores x from the text" because that fundamentally dismisses all the other attributes that contribute to whether or not a piece of media is subjectively good (because honestly that's all it is-- subjectivity). Media, especially film and stage, has so many dynamic and moving parts. There are so many attributes that contribute to the success of any one given thing, especially adaptations (which can claim the title with even the loosest references to the source material). I feel like the black and white thinking when it comes to this doesn't really allow for a dialogue to exist between people who enjoy Dracula adaptations for what they are and, forgive me for saying this, book purists.
Understandably, there is criticism against some adaptations that have claimed to follow the source text closely, but very distinctly did not (Ahum, Cappola). However, I think it does everyone a disservice to deny the impact of a lot of these (mostly) films. Someone in the reblogs of my original post did a good breakdown of the origins of the Dracula genre itself, and I think it goes to show that the story of Dracula has a life of its own outside of the pages of Bram Stoker's book.
The most annoying thing about the responses to my initial post was the refusal to believe that anyone was making these comparisons. I really would not have gone out on a limb to rant about this if I hadn't been consistently seeing vent posts in the main tag with mostly negative responses to a lot of different adaptations of Dracula based on the authenticity of them to the text. I admit I was frustrated when I wrote it, but it really was meant to just address the black and white thinking re: failed adaptations making bad media. This is not to say that criticism of adaptations isn't valid, but I think there should be more nuance to this conversation and that's what I wasn't seeing. It's not fun to dive into the broad Dracula tag and find post after post shitting on your favourite media because it isn't like the book.
Sorry this was a bit long! I am just really passionate about Dracula okay!! And I really really really like all the shitty little shows and movies and plays and comics and all other media that comes out of his name (because YES, a lot of adaptations really make vampire synonymous with Dracula and ROLL WITH IT). Vampires are really neat and the Dracula genre of film has been a huge influence on horror media. I think there is a lot to be said when analysing adaptations, but none of it can come from blanket statements against them.

Attempting to cheer myself up with a lil superior starker kidnapping 👍
...
....
.....
"You're mine, little spider." Tony Stark looked at him with a cruel gleam in his icy eyes. Peter trembled under his hand. He could feel the mechanism in his busted webshooter trying valiantly to engage, but it was done for. The other was entirely shattered.
"Please, sir," Peter said, his voice breaking. "You don't want to do this."
The grin that spread across his face made him feel faint. The hand around his throat squeezed only slightly. "I'm not going to kill you, Peter."
"What do you want then?"
"I want you."
"Me?"
A metal hand wrapped around his forearm. Peter balked at his strength as he broke Peter's grip on the arm that choked him. He pinned his hand beside his head and he pressed in close. All Peter could do was stare into those eyes, soak up the warmth of his breath and the chill of his armor.
"You're mine," he purred. "All mine."
"What-"
"Don't waste your breath with questions. I'll tell you what you need to know. What you need to think. The only thing you ever need to care about is me. Don't worry about the rest. Daddy will handle it."
"Please-" he squeaked, but the hand on his throat stopped him.
"Now now. There's no need to fight. It's all over now. I always get what I want."

To your Laudna post from earlier- I started having doubts about this character concept when Marisha said on 4SD that she wanted Laudna to be a character who was legitimately over their trauma. Just because…ok, if that’s the case, where is the character going?? What’s the growth, or the arc? (Which, to bring a bit of my bias into it, is why I think her most interesting interactions are with Ashton, who continues to poke that trauma and insist that she is not, in fact, past it.)
And to your point, if the idea is to have the character be over this trauma and for it to not play a large part in their life, why exhume Delilah for it?? Why dig up an old villain for a part that could easily be played by any random necromancer in Exandria?
It’s just such a bizarre series of choices, especially contrasted with Beau and Keyleth, who had such great character growth over their campaigns.
Yeah, that worried me too. I think the character has inched a little closer to full acknowledgment that she is not, in fact, over it (the Hound of Ill Omen rp, her killing of Bor'dor being explicitly because of her trauma around betrayal), but the fact that this was even the initial concept is very troubling.
I had some of the same reticence with Orym, since Liam was pretty upfront that he was meant to be Just A Guy who'd already been through the grieving process—but not only did Liam really put a lot more thought into what that would actually look like, the grief and recovery are not actually the point of Orym's story. Instead it's about the experience of what it means to be a foot soldier in a world full of legends, and that's a potentially engaging arc in its own right. He's not in my top ten or anything, but I generally enjoy what he's bringing to the table.
Laudna's just...a mess, and as you said, it really stands out when you compare her to Beau and Keyleth. I recently watched 2x30 for the first time, and the conversation between Beau and Caleb in the carriage on the way out of Shadycreek Run about what Beau's really doing and why she's with them was such a great scene. Her moment in 2x27 after Molly's death is good, but that more quiet conversation was so simple and yet established her so well. Keyleth, for her part, doesn't do a whole lot for me, but she doesn't really have to for me to recognize that she's a solid, well-developed character. Even Patia, who was around for a fraction of the time, was an absolute tour de force—and Patia makes the comparison even starker because she was created and developed at the same time as Laudna.
Like, there may be a turnaround here, but my charitable readings have worn thin, and even if this character does turn a corner, you still have to deal with the fact that she spent what will probably be at least half the campaign faffing around. Stories aren't made on potential; they're made on using it.

As Seamless as a Political Alliance
Greetings, simpletons! I, Lord Morgarath of the Mountains of Rain and Night, have cause once again to reflect upon you peasants and your feeble attempts at refinement. Having heeded the request of @happygoosebird of the Tumblr realm, I shall bestow upon you my wisdom on the intricate art of dramatic eyeshadow – a pursuit I assume lies far beyond your humble capacities.
First and foremost, acquire pigments that befit your station: no cheap imitations, mind you. A discerning eye only embraces the finest. Use an artisan’s brush to apply a base color, ensuring it complements the richness of your bloodline. Be cautious, for subtlety is an alien concept to the masses.
Next, select a shade darker than your limited imagination, and trace the crease—yes, that elusive crease that, much like your intellect, may be challenging to locate. Patience, my dear inferiors. Should you possess the mental capacity, choose an accent color. Apply it sparingly, for too much vibrancy is unbecoming. This is not a carnival, after all.
Blend, you simpleton, blend! This is not a siege; we do not wish to see harsh lines. The transition should be as seamless as a political alliance. The lid demands attention; choose a shimmering hue that mirrors the sparkle of the royal jewels. Apply with the precision of a master strategist plotting conquest. Remember, we are creating art, not engaging in peasant labor.
Finally, the pièce de résistance – the eyeliner. Like ink on a royal decree, it should be bold and unwavering. Craft a wing sharper and starker than your lack of social standing, extending it to assert your dominance in the cosmetic realm.
Conclude your endeavor with an imperious gaze in the looking glass, contemplating how your eyes now reflect a modicum of the dramatic and glorious majesty that surrounds the likes of Lord Morgarath. Now, go forth and attempt to emulate the elegance I have graciously shared.

Twenty Questions for Fic Writers
How many works do you have on ao3?
32. (Three are orphaned, all old fic; one spn fic is under anon)
What's your total ao3 word count?
627,118 words (I assume the anon fic is included in ao3 stats, and I added the orphans manually.) That's more than I expected, but it does stretch back to fic I started writing in 2011!
What fandoms do you write for?
Under my current pseud, Supernatural and The Outsiders. I have WIPs underway for both! I also have a languishing WIP for M*A*S*H* :( In the past I have written for the MCU, The Walking Dead, Hetalia, Teen Wolf, and The New Adventures of Old Christine.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
1. Ephemeron (MCU, Starker), 1,393 kudos; 2. With A Bit Of Spit And Luck (SPN, Wincest), 401 kudos; 3. Is It Tomorrow (Or Just the End of Time) (SPN, Wincest), 304 kudos; 4. Closing Night (SPN, Wincest), 222 kudos; 5. Baton Rouge (SPN, Wincest), 205 kudos It's no surprise to me that my one MCU fic and the only multi-chapter fic on this list, though forever unfinished, has far and away the most kudos, and that all top 5 fics are rated E. If we knock Ephemeron off the top spot and just look at fics under my current pseud, then 5th place would go to Some Starless Night (Love May Come an' Tap You on the Shoulder) (SPN, Wincest), 184 kudos (and rated M!)
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! I haven't always in the past, though I always liked engaging with readers, but ever since I returned to fic in 2020 when I started writing for spn I've made sure to on principal. Not always quickly, but eventually. I'm really so grateful to the small fraction of readers who leave comments so I want to express my gratitude that they took the time! I also love giving thoughtful responses to thoughtful comments. Sometimes readers have unique insights into my work!
What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
A lot of my fics have fairly bleak or bittersweet/mixed state endings (my favorite type!); of my current pseud fics, I'd say the bleakest is either Plano: Some Town Halfway In Between (SPN, John/Dean) or Road Risk (SPN, Wincest). If we're looking at all-time fics, the angst gets--uh, angstier: Ludovicus Caecus (APH, Germancest), based on Oedipus Rex, ends with Ludwig killing Gilbert, gouging out his own eyes, and carrying his brother's severed head around in a bag; and When the Dead Do Not Rest (APH, Germancest) ends with Ludwig keeping Gilbert's severed head in a chest. Although in that case he's sort of happy with the situation so maybe it doesn't count...
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Baton Rouge (SPN, Wincest) and Like They Talk About In Books (The Outsiders, Ponypop) are pretty equally happy, with both ending on a hopeful note for the new relationship and the characters finding a sense of belonging in each other's arms <3
Do you get hate on fics?
Not outright! The worst I've gotten have been a couple rude, entitled comments along the lines of "why don't you write what I want you to write." I soundly told them off.
Do you write smut?
Yes :) I'm very thankful to various spn fandom smut events (Salt Burn Porn, Bro-Bang, and more) for helping me get my freak back on.
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Not generally. I like to stay close to canon, for the most part. The only one I ever tried was my Teen Wolf/The Internship crossover Colors That Are Real, which used the fact that both starred Dylan O'Brien as the flimsy excuse for a twincest ship, lol
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! Maybe more than one, I can't remember. I've definitely gotten several requests to translate, but idk how many of those people went through with it. The one I know of for sure is Ephemeron, which was translated at least partially into Chinese, and fully into Russian. I was actually really touched by what a robust following it had in Russian fandom. I used to go on the site and use google translate to read people's comments :)
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope.
What's your all-time favorite ship?
gotta go with the one, the only, the ultimate, Wincest.
What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
That M*A*S*H* fic I mentioned. It's post-canon Beejhawk. I've considered posting the two chapters I have; they sort of work on their own.
What are your writing strengths?
Rhythm and tempo! Creating an atmosphere. Dialogue. Pacing. Voice.
What are your writing weaknesses?
For spn, I really rely on good betas to check my characterization. Canon is so sprawling and the characters change so much and are so essentially complex and contradictory; it really helps to have a trusted second set of eyes to say 'hmm I don't think Sam would do that in that way at this point in canon' or 'this sounds a little like early seasons Dean more than late seasons.' They also point out where language can sound more specific to the character, which doesn't always come easy with spn's lingo and references. But honestly my biggest weakness is consistency of output/motivation :(
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
To be avoided at all costs. And if it must be done, you better know what you're doing or at least do your damn homework and try to get a native speaker to check it over.
First fandom you wrote for?
Hetalia (APH) 😅
Favorite fic you've written?
Damn that's so hard haha. I think I'd have to go with Baton Rouge, but Plano: Some Town Halfway In Between is a close second. I'm also happy to report that my current WIPs, for spn and The Outsiders, may well become my new faves. I'm very excited about both projects!
Tagged by @buddyaldridges--Thank you for the tag! This was a fun restrospective! Tagging @nigeltde-fic, @flownwrong, @zmediaoutlet, @balefully, @nevergettingoverwincest and anyone who wants to do it!

Okay but who else thinks all the Selena Justin Hailey stuff could make for a good Starker/WinterSpider prompt....
People shocked about the on and off again for years relationship then a quick on an off and even quicker engagement and marriage.
The drama
The looks
Like.... I kinda need to see this???
No matter what I just want a Happy Ending for Peter[Selena]

Welcome to The Love Remedy book blitz with Berkley Publishing Group. (This blog blitz post is also posted on my Wordpressbook blog Whimsical Dragonette.)
Synopsis:
When a Victorian apothecary hires a stoic private investigator to protect her business, they learn there’s only one way to treat true love—with a happily ever after. When Lucinda Peterson’s recently perfected formula for a salve to treat croup goes missing, she’s certain it’s only the latest in a line of misfortunes at the hands of a rival apothecary. Outraged and fearing financial ruin, Lucy turns to private investigator Jonathan Thorne for help. She just didn’t expect her champion to be so . . . grumpy? A single father and an agent at Tierney & Co., Thorne accepts missions for a wide variety of employers—from the British government to wronged wives. None have intrigued him so much as the spirited Miss Peterson. As the two work side by side to unmask her scientific saboteur, Lucy slips ever so sweetly under Thorne’s battered armor, tempting him to abandon old promises. With no shortage of suspects—from a hostile political group to an erstwhile suitor—Thorne’s investigation becomes a threat to all that Lucy holds dear. As the truth unravels around them the cure to their problems is they must face the future together.
Author Bio
Elizabeth Everett lives in upstate New York with her family. She likes going for long walks or (very) short runs to nearby sites that figure prominently in the history of civil rights and women's suffrage. Her series is inspired by her admiration for rule breakers and her belief in the power of love to change the world.

My Rating: ★★★★★
*My Review and Non-Exclusive Excerpt below the cut.
My Review:
This is an engaging story about two people who are each carrying heavy burdens learning to let each other in. There are fun cameos from the women scientists books if you recognize them, but you can also read it without reading the other series.
I really liked all the characters. They were complex and felt very real. I loved Sadie and her gleeful recounting of all the facts she learned at her science school. Lucy was strong and determined but also bent to the point of breaking under the weight of her responsibilities. Thorne was closed off and rigid and desperately in need of someone breaking him out of his self-imposed shell.
The romance wasn't swoony but was more subtle, a gradual and reluctant giving in to a partnership of mutual appreciation and aide. I really liked that. I prefer a quiet partnership to a grand passionate romance anyway.
What I appreciate most about this story though, is how fiercely feminist it is. Lucy is determined to continue running the apothecary and providing real cures to people who can't afford them. Her sister Juliet works to provide medical and reproductive care to women in need. Her brother David seems flighty but has his own crusade. Lucy is also determined that every woman should be given the method and means to prevent pregnancy and induce menses if that choice is taken from them.
All of this flies in the face of Thorne's upper-class upbringing of what a 'good' woman should do and know, and serves to create the major conflict between them. Lucy refuses to compromise on her ideals and she shouldn't have to.
The author's note at the end brings that struggle into even starker relief. Elizabeth Everett makes it very clear where she stands on the issue of women's reproductive rights and more power to her. It's an issue that deserves fighting for and taking a strong stance on.
I would say that the writing and character development of this is even better than the women scientists series and I look forward to her next book.
*Thanks to NetGalley and Berkley for providing an early copy for review.
Non-Exclusive Excerpt:
Lucy's guilt had been squeezing the breath from her lungs for weeks. On the counter, slightly dented from having been crushed in her fist, then thrown to the ground and stepped on, then heaved against the wall, sat a grimy little tin. Affixed to the top was a label with the all-too-familiar initials RSA. Rider and Son Apothecary. Rider and Son. The latter being the primary reason for this very worst of days. The longer she stared at the tin, the less Lucy felt the strain of responsibility for running Peterson's Apothecary and keeping her siblings housed and fed. Beneath the initials were printed the words Rider's Lozenges. The ever-present exhaustion that had weighed her down moments ago began to dissipate at the sight of the smaller print beneath, which read "exclusive." The more she stared, the more her guilt subsided beneath a wave of anger that coursed through her blood. "Exclusive patented formula for the relief of putrid throats." Exclusive patented formula. The anger simmered and simmered the longer she stared until it reached a boil and turned to rage. Grabbing her paletot from the coatrack and a random bonnet that may or may not have matched, Lucy stormed out of the shop, slamming the door behind her with a vengeance that was less impressive when she had to turn around the next second to lock it. Exclusive patent. The words burned in her brain, and she clenched her hands into fists. One warm summer afternoon four months ago, Lucy had been so tired, she'd stopped to sit on a park bench and had closed her eyes. Only for a minute or two, but long enough for a young gentleman passing by to notice and be concerned enough for her safety to inquire as to her well-being. While the brief rest had been involuntary, remaining on the bench and striking up a conversation with the handsome stranger was her choice, and a terrible one at that. Lucy had allowed Duncan Rider to walk her home, not questioning the coincidence that the son of her father's rival had been the one to find her vulnerable and offer his protection was down to her own stupidity. Now, as Lucy barreled down the rotting walkways of Calthorpe Street, she barely registered the admiring glances from the gentlemen walking in the opposite direction or the sudden appearance of the wan November sun as it poked through the gray clouds of autumn. Instead, her head was filled with memories so excruciating they jabbed at her chest like heated needles, rousing feelings of shame alongside her resentment. Such as the next time she'd seen Duncan, when he appeared during a busy day at the apothecary with a pretty nosegay of violets. He'd smelled like barley water and soap, a combination so simple and appealing it had scrambled her brains and left her giddy as a goose. Or the memory of how their kisses had unfolded in the back rooms of the apothecary, turning from delightfully sweet to something much more carnal. How kisses had proceeded to touches, and from there even more, and how she'd believed it a harbinger of what would come once they married. A shout ripped Lucy's attention back to the present, and she jerked back from the road, missing the broad side of a carriage by inches. The driver called out curses at her over his shoulder, but they bounced off her and scattered across the muddied street as Lucy turned the corner onto Gray's Inn Road. Halfway through a row of weathered stone buildings, almost invisible unless one knew what to look for, a discreet brass plaque to the left of a blackened oak door read: Tierney & Co., Bookkeeping Services Lucy took a deep breath, pulling the dirty brown beginnings of a London fog into her lungs and expelling it along with the remorse and shame that accompanied her memory of Duncan holding her handwritten formula for a new kind of throat lozenge she'd worked two years to perfect.
"I'll just test it out for you, shall I?" he'd said, eyes roaming the page. Duncan and his father had long searched for a throat lozenge remedy that tasted as good as it worked. Might Duncan be tempted to impress his father with her lozenge? His lips curled up on one side as he read, and Lucy recalled the slight shadow of foreboding moving across the candlelight in the back storeroom where they carried out their affair. "I don't know," she'd hedged. Too late. He'd folded the formula and distracted her with kisses. "I've more space and materials at my disposal. I know you think this is ready to sell, but isn't it better that we take the time to make sure?" It might have been exhaustion that weakened Lucy just enough that she took advantage of an offer to help shoulder some of her burdens. However, the decision to let Duncan Rider walk out of Peterson's Apothecary with a formula that was worth a fortune was due not to her sleepless nights, but to a weakness in her character that allowed her to believe a man when he told her he loved her. Now, four months later, somehow Duncan had again betrayed her. Having already lost the lozenge formula to Duncan's avaricious grasp, Lucy had been horrified to find a second formula missing. She'd come up with a salve for treating babies' croup, a remedy even more profitable than the lozenges. What parent wouldn't pay through the nose to calm a croupy baby? Lucy was certain that Duncan must have found out about her work and stolen both the formula and ingredient list for the salve. This time, Lucy would not dissolve into tears and swear never to love again. This time, she was going eviscerate her rival and get her formula back. Then she would swear never to love again.

Things that went through my mind while watching this episode:
--The really soft, fast "howa howa" noises are so freaking cute. Inosuke is so easily distracted by this feeling and he hates it as much as a feral kitten unwittingly purring while being pet.
--Tanjiro handles Inosuke with the finesse of someone who has dealt with strong-willed toddlers, rolling with all Inosuke's need to be the center of attention and directly his focus as easily as he redirects his punches. It never takes Tanjiro out of focus on battle to do this.
--That said, Inosuke sure isn't dumb about how he's getting played around like a card in battle, and he both hates that he's moving as though puppeted and admires that Tanjiro sees the entire flow of battle so well as to know where the puppeting strings are. Inosuke's ingenuity is one of his greatest strengths in battle, but in his frustration, he can only think to do what others are doing. "I can do it better" is not only a fallback for him, but at times an all-encompassing distraction which drives him to repeatedly headbutt trees. The boy is easily influenced, after all. Don't worry, Inosuke, you just be you.
--Unless being Inosuke means you need to go beat up on Murata-sempai instead of getting to work.
--For as much as Tanjiro seems to keep him in line like a toddler (or a dog, it felt like toward the end of fighting the headless puppet), Tanjiro's greatest influence on Inosuke in this episode is when the air Tanjiro gives off upon seeing the Corp members they had struggled to save so ruthlessly killed right in front of him startles Inosuke indeed having some respect, quieting down, and taking this mission seriously.
--Quick pause here to say Murata is so worthy of respect.
--No, seriously--he quickly owned up to the fact that he hadn't been handling this the best he could as the swordsman he is, and he knows its up to him to handle his compromised colleagues. And, once he knows the trick is the spider threads, he has the peace of mind to keep the situation under control.
--And also, Ozaki, and the guys she dragged around with her--what a sucky, sucky end to what were already very hard lives. The fact that Ozaki screams that she wouldn't normally be this strong goes to show how hard she's worked to get here, too. Plus, I'll bet those guys were her friends.
--Also quick pause to say I paused and rewatched all of those scenes of Zenitsu screaming in the forest when I was writing "The Legend of Ukogi" so I can still play all of those sounds in my mind from memory. Wow, that was over two years ago.
--Speaking of things I can play in my mind from memory, I saw Mugen Ressha in the theater five times (it was a bit excessive, I know) so I when I think of a prime example of Tanjiro and Inosuke working off each other in battle, that is always want comes to mind. HOWEVER!!! This battle!! Against the headless puppet! Such! A more! Creative! Display!!!
--Mother Spider's fear is the most palpable of anyone's in this whole series. Ami Koshimizu's performance is giving me a secondhand panic attack over here, and Rui's entrance in this episode is unforgettable. Sure, in the previous episode he was brazenly walking on threads up high and told Tanjiro to leave, but it has way more impact when he walks in on one of his own family, instills fear in her from a distance while he does nothing physically threatening. This whole interaction, with her is starker lights and shadows to emphasize her terror in contrast with Rui in a calmer shadow, and with a few words from him so utterly throwing off all of her composure, it paints as clear a picture as we need about which demon totally runs this whole mountain.
--Speaking of this mountain, though, Mt. Natagumo feels like the most dangerous place Tanjiro has been in this whole series--even in Muzan's presence you could say that Tanjiro was safer for the human crowd having been there and the bright lights that would had exposed Muzan if they'd have engaged in battle in anyway. Mt. Fujikasane was a notoriously dangerous place, but it had the reassuring presence of wisteria and the quotidian break of dawn for refuge. Even the mansion which didn't even obey the laws of reality as we know was just an anomaly in an otherwise pleasant and normal mountain where children might take a walk at night. But Mt. Natagumo? Woe to anyone but Rui's family who may there tread.
--Some of the CG is a little janky in this episode (looking at you, Zenitsu), but you know where the animation continues to really shine? The subtle changes in Tanjiro's expression as he moves around in battle and thinks and responds to his environment. THIS!!! THIS IS WHILE BATTLES IN THIS ANIME ARE SO ENGAGING!!!!
--And the emotional elements too, of course. If anyone is asked to name or at least describe three Water Breath forms, l think this would be in most peoples' lists for how much it stands out among the repertoire. It goes to shows that for centuries, there have been kind-hearted swordsmen like Tanjiro and Kanae who would had thought to spare pain if they can. And, with the number of Water Breath users in the Corp who would know this form, that means there's a lot of potential for many demons to have been slain kindly, if only they felt enough remorse or suffering to willingly offer their neck. I just wish it could had been worked into to the plot more than just this once.
--Speaking of playing with elements in the plot, as a fanfic writer I really like working with side characters, and my fanfic brain started taking over my fanart brain for this episode, so please allow me the following short fic: Corp Member Ozaki's Story, As Read By Kagaya
My mother never would have thought I'd have been a swordsmen. She always told me to stop playing rough sports with the boys, for they'd all grow bigger and stronger than me someday. She told me to mind that I was a women, delicate, and should be more gentle. I always knew it she meant that because she worried for me getting in over my head someday, but at the time, I chose to be angry. I wanted to be as strong as the boys.
Maybe if I had been more gentle, more ladylike, I would had been a more tolerant sister. That's the real strength in being the oldest daughter, isn't it? If I could change one day in my life, I would have made myself smile and suffer through playing dolls with my little sister. If I hadn't snapped at her, she wouldn't had run off that day. I didn't know it until that night when my mother was in a panic looking for her, and we both searched for hours. The next morning, a Corp member told me my mother was dead.
They did not not find the demon who killed my mother, but I believe it was my sister, whom she doted on. My mother was injured as though an animal in her embrace had bit her, and when I brushed her bangs away from her face, she still had the kindest glance in her eyes. I hope it was too fast for her to know what happened; a gentle death.
That was why I entered the Corp. I know she may already have been killed, but if I ever encounter my sister, I want her to have a gentle death. Whatever she puts me through before that, I'll deserve it.

View - And So We Spiral
By DaScribbla
AO3: http://archiveofourown.org/works/9502808
After Berlin, 15-year old Peter Parker nurses his growing crush on his mentor. Tony Stark tries not to notice, and inevitably fails.
I was sure that no other Starker fic could ever come close to the epic romance that was Revelations, and I couldn't be more glad to be proved wrong.
The story progresses very similarly to your typical non-PWP Starker story. Peter has a crush. Tony notices. Tries to avoid it. Gives in eventually. They have to hide from their friends and the public. They succeed in keeping it hidden until whenever/the truth comes out (Spoiler Alert: it does).
What's special here is the treatment and gravity given to the events that carry forth said generic plot. As much as I enjoy this ship, I must confess that I actively avoid thinking about its moral and legal implications. Some stories circumvent this dilemma by aging Peter up or Tony down; the age gap persists nonetheless. And So We Spiral is the only story that addresses these issues realistically and with sensitivity.
Pros:
-Amazing use of atmosphere! An ever-lingering sense of melancholia permeates this world and its characters. Tony and Peter know what they are doing is not right, but they are unable to stop and that disturbs them. There is an oppressive weight pressing onto everyone's shoulders, and the writing masterfully conveys these feelings to us.
-As mentioned above, realistic treatment of plot. Peter is not of legal age here, and the reactions of people who get to know about the relationship are appropriate and frankly what will (and should) be in the real world.
-Well-written characters. Peter acts like he's fifteen. Some may find him a bit OOC from his MCU version, but again, this fic is not 100% MCU compliant and incorporates elements from the comics. And I was pretty impressed with Tony's portrayal as well. One of my usual grouches with this ship is how little reason Tony has for being attracted to Peter. Well, that's not elaborated upon too much in this story, but I genuinely didn't care, which brings me to the next pro.
-It's not about falling in love. It's about the consequences. And oh boy, do they face quite a bit of those!
Cons:
-Again, generic plot. I think I read the first 100 pages on autopilot. Could have been a little more engaging on that front.
-Peter is a victim of past sexual abuse and that is not given its due weight. Some of the smut do not make merge well with Peter's past.
(Not sure if this is a pro or con). Not a totally healthy relationship. It's kind of shallow. We never really see many romantic moments out of the smut. And though, they are willing to fight for each other, that seems to stem more from decency and duty towards a partner than genuine love.
I'm more inclined to call this a pro for the rather nuanced depiction of an age-gap relationship based on sexual attraction, but for all the trouble these two go through, you need something solid to root for as a reader. Tbh, I would have been totally fine with them parting ways forever at the end, and if that's what the author was trying to convey, well and good.
The ending definitely warrants a special mention, with bittersweet being the most apt word to capture the feeling. All in all, one of the deeper MCU fanfiction I've read, and despite the flaws, it has trumped nearly every other Starker I've read, and proven itself worthy of ranking at the top of the Starker list.
