thinking about the poll about canon vs non-canon ships that didn't define terms, and the current fandom focus on things "going canon," so i made up a scale.
this is NOT a question about whether canon matters to what you ship (or matters at all), just how to define the phrase "canon ship."
many ships start low on the scale and slow burn their way up, so vote for the point when you would have called them "canon." i agonized over the order (especially #4-6) for a day and a half, but i went with the order in which i think joe random with a nielsen ratings box and no tumblr account would notice/call something a romantic relationship.
#anywhere between 5 and 7 depending on the setting#like if it's one linear narrative? 7 with a dash of 5 because even unrequited feelings still introduce a canon possibility#if it's a story with a canon multiverse like dc/marvel? 6 because there is canonically a universe where it wasn't just a dream/AU#polls

💙: Which character is not as hot as everyone else seems to think?
Imogen CriticalRole. She has this specific vibe that, to me—and I'm so sorry because I VERY much wish this wasn't true for me—feels like the Stanley Cup-toting, Coachella-regular white girl energy that I do not find attractive. When I try to see Imogen as hot, it feels like trying to be attracted to T-Swift. Yes, this still applies to Imogen's original outfit, which always felt less genuine ranch girl / Western and more like Instagram ranchcore.
If you're into that, that's fine and great and god be with you, but it is extremely not for me. She's like FINE, she's conventionally attractive but like in a way that just kinda is unremarkable to me, so I can't say that she's HOT, definitely not as hot as everyone seems to think.
🧡: What is a popular (serious) theory you disagree with?
I have no idea what serious theories are popular these days. I spent a long-ass time thinking about theories I thought are dumb as hell, and basically everything I thought of are, like, exactly one person pitched, thus not popular enough to be worth picking at here.
I'm gonna draw on an old one and say that I remain ehhhhh about the idea that Maya Agrupnin founded the Cobalt Soul because of having received Patia's orb. It just doesn't really gel well with the established lore about the Cobalt Soul: founded just after the Calamity (centuries after the fall of Avalir) and by followers of Ioun. I will continue to disagree even if it's canonized, that's how hard I don't vibe with it.

Oh, that is ABSOLUTELY the logic (I've seen it personally with bonus "Areadbhar is a phallic symbol"). It's sort of the same logic behind "Rhea is homophobic"—the church looks like Catholicism, Rhea's the pope, therefore she must be homophobic even though this is a) a fictional religion whose teachings draw heavily from Buddhism and they b) have a female leader and c) worship a mother goddess.
It's also funny when people try to cast Dimitri as politically conservative too (there were people who claimed he'd be #bluelivesmatter back in 2020), because he is the only lord who has endings explicitly alluding to him making racial reconciliation, trying to reform his country's political system, and establishing something close to a democracy. Like, Dimitri's the Jimmy Carter of Faerghus.

percy having like 900 possible hairstyles is so funny, everyone else in vox machina has constant elements in their art (braid + feathers, half-up-half-down, long red hair and antlers, fun buns, beret and short ponytail, bald with a beard) and only slight variations in their outfits, fairly consistent facial structures and body types, while everyone's out here like "what does percy look like" and critical role is like "yes :)"

-hair is much more neat and flipped to the side
-his gloves are longer, with straps on it
-his jacket has gold details as usual, in addition to the trim. But most interestingly looks like it lacks sleeves and cuts off just past the shoulder!
-still has the second lenses on his glasses!
Concept art Percy
-similar to the previous design coat wise, but the cut off of the coat sleeves is slightly lower, as well as the lapels reaching much lower down.
-gloves have a bit less detail but mostly the same
-the coat is now held by a silver chain which seems mostly decorative
-he loses the second lenses on the glasses here
-beginning of the cowlick hair

- his glasses second lenses actually remain on the lower side of the frame rather than where they are commonly put at the top
- interestingly enough this Percy’s hair is left down in front of his forehead pointing towards the middle, and additionally he has sideburns again
-the gold details on his jacket are more intricate in design
Comics Percy
-2 slight variations of him!
-one has silver detailing and a coat with more of a tail, in addition to blue pants and long gloves. His waistcoat also seems striped!
-the other has a coat that has fur lining the innards of it, with the sleeves rolled up a bit revealing it before reaching his gloves.
-thigh high boots :3
-both have a side holster for the list and have hair that slightly curls.

-the glove he is wearing now has gold designs on it! And forgive me for showing bias briefly, but he is wearing coolest depiction of diplomacy I’ve seen
- the extra flaps over the shoulders of his coat within the gold make their appearance!
-the fur on the edges of the coat returns, this time way more prominent and full

-speaking of facial hair-
-still wearing a blue jacket, however this one has proper (presumably) custom gold detailing all over it.
-his hair is swept to the side!
- the white pants are new and so is this new waistcoat that seemingly has a tail to it

-this is more about the mask here as we’ve seen this Percy design.
- the mask is tipped with what looks to be metal which is interesting because how did he do that
-additionally the plague mask has attachments that resemble the respirators on something like a gas mask!

-high reaching dress shirt, goes well halfway up his neck, and it’s paired with a waist coat that does the same but is a little lower down
- segmented glove of sorts, could be a normal glove but is most likely diplomacy :)
