TAG 9 PEOPLE YOU WANT TO GET TO KNOW BETTER
I was tagged by @hughungrybear :)
THREE SHIPS
Current or all-time? I’ll just go with the three that immediately come to mind:
Pat and Pran, Bad Buddy (obvs)
Steve and Tony, MCU
Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian, MDZS
*Honorable mention to Jake and Amy from Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
FIRST SHIP
Ever? Hmm, before Pacey and Joey it was Anne and Gilbert from the Anne of Green Gables series (books AND Kevin Sullivan’s tv adaptation from the mid-1980s). Gilbert Blythe was my first crush. Anne and Gil’s relationship taught my younger and impressionable self that love was friendship caught on fire and to never settle for anything less; that you can fall both slowly and ardently. Gilbert and Anne set the goalpost for all my future ships, with Gilbert proving that sometimes the nice guy does get the girl.
Also, I cannot imagine a more picturesque backdrop to fall in love in than Prince Edward Island. It’s on my bucket list to visit.

LAST SONG
I’ve been listening to a lot of K-Drama OST lately. I usually have one song on loop for weeks until it wears itself out on my spotify. Last month it was “With You” by Jimin and Ha Sung Woon from Our Blues (fantastic drama btw, I ugly cried in nearly every episode). This week it’s “Goodbye” by WENDY from The Beauty Inside.
LAST MOVIE
I’m embarrassed to admit this, but just yesterday I rewatched Leap Year on Netflix. I shamefully also own the DVD. Gah, *hides face* don’t look at me.
It’s a cheesy, clichéd, and improbable romcom about an American who impulsively follows her boyfriend to Ireland to propose to him on February 29th. Cue the endless mishaps and series of incredibly manufactured bad luck. She ends up falling instead for the stranger who helps her on the way. The script is silly and absurdly unrealistic, but damn if the chemistry and charm of the two leads doesn’t save the day.
My favorite scene is when Matthew Goode’s ‘Declan’ wakes up alone on a bus stop bench and realizes that Amy Adam’s ‘Anna’ has left him without waking him to say goodbye. The disappointment and regret in his body language is so palpable that Anna who is standing behind him watching, feels every ounce of his turmoil. She studies him for a beat before breaking the moment with banter. And damn, Matthew conveyed all this just by the way he stands and very subtly slumps his shoulders in defeat. And Anna’s reaction to seeing him this way is just...so telling that you want to shake her and say c’mon girl, you’re chasing the wrong guy.
It doesn’t hurt that this era of young Matthew Goode is totally my aesthetic. Just look at him. Add to all this the brogue-y accent and WOOF.
Tumblr media
CURRENTLY READING
I consume written media the same way I consume music and shows. I devour it. I practically subsist on Ao3 content alone. Lately, it’s been a lot of Red, White & Royal Blue fics in anticipation and giddiness for the upcoming movie.
CURRENTLY WATCHING
I’m in the middle of season 2 of my annual West Wing binge-watch. I’m by no means into politics, but I have yet to discover better American television than Aaron Sorkin’s The West Wing. It’s nearly perfect in its execution.
Currently waiting on a lot of shows to finish airing so that I can binge watch (I’m not making the mistake I did with Bad Buddy by watching it every week, I nearly died). On my list:
Never Let Me Go
My School President
Crash Course in Romance
Moonlight Chicken
CURRENTLY CONSUMING
Right now? Snacking on Irvins Salted Egg Salmon Skin chips that I got from Costco. It’s deceptively bad for you (high in both cholesterol and sodium content), but the ‘dangerously addictive’ boast on the packaging is wildly accurate.
Tumblr media
CURRENTLY CRAVING
Food-wise? A big bowl of homemade pho with all the accoutrements.
ONWARD TAGS
@depressingly-lonely @hereforlou @reasonablysurmised @aliceisathome @keelpay @inhumanevoid @frostluvrs @faillen @leconcombrerit @rosetintednerdglasses and anyone else that wants to join!

Honestly for Bio dad stories, the Bio dad for Saltinette I can see being her bio dad is the Not Team Cap Friendly Tony Stark cause Saltinette and Not Team Cap Friendly Tony Stark are so alike it's ridiculous considering ML Salt stories and Not Team Cap Friendly stories are so alike, I'd think Saltinette's bio dad would be that version of Tony Stark cause of how unpleasant they are and maybe that can be where Saltinette gets that horrible personality too
That reminds me: I've had this sitting in my drafts since March 10, 2021.
Tumblr media
If I wanted to read endless fanfics about how the protagonist has been used and abused by the people around them, with them slavishly working for their so-called “friends” and only being spit at and unappreciated in return.
The protagonist retracting their talents and leaving their former allies to rot and wail, only just now realizing how useless and incompetent they are and how much they depended on the protagonist for everything good in the world.
For the cases where the group that had opposed the protagonist but had later come to some sort of ceasefire, having the protagonist lay out how that group has screwed up any chance of them being friendly and that they need to suffer the consequences of their actions, with them having irrevocably severed their ties and needing to learn that there are no takebacks, no second chances, and they have to learn to lie in the bed they made with not having the protagonist’s favor anymore.
And the Protagonist’s TRUE friends, the ones that stuck by them and helped oppose, and even take down, their former friends and allies, giving The Reason You Suck speeches to the people who had “betrayed” them, withdrawing THEIR support as well and helping to complete the Protagonist’s vengeance against those who had so terribly wronged them.
With the Protagonist not being the “doormat” for their “bullies and abusers” anymore, leaving them to suffer whatever consequences await them.
I’d read pro-Tony, Team Cap Bashing fanfics, because it’s the same shitty plot and characterization, but at least the level of ire and bad blood actually makes SENSE.
I don't generally have much to do with the MCU fandom (or the MCU nowadays), but I did hear about this, and yeaaaaah... from what I've seen of them, it really is the same idea. That version of Tony being Saltinette's biodad does make more sense than Bruce being her biodad - _ -

Keanu Reeves Reportedly Lands Secret Marvel MCU Role
Keanu Reeves Reportedly Lands Secret Marvel MCU Role Many fans have been eagerly waiting to see if Keanu Reeves would ever step foot into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, according to a new report, it appears that the John Wick and Matrix star might’ve just nabbed his first Marvel role. The report, which comes via GFR, suggests that Keanu Reeves has been attached to “a secret role for Marvel.” Unfortunately, that doesn’t it narrow it down much. However, they did suggest that his role is indeed set for a film set in the MCU – not just any random series. As they’ve stated: “So far, our source was able to confirm that the new project is a film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as opposed to a series on Disney+. We should be seeing Keanu Reeves in an upcoming Marvel movie, and unless their plans go amiss, it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing any announcements for his part before it’s actually happening. This is one of the big Marvel secret castings.” As such, they’ve suggested that this role might be introduced similar to Harry Styles when he appeared as Eros. So once we know who Keanu Reeves will be playing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it could be quite some time before we see his character properly fleshed out. Nevertheless, this is an exciting suggestion of what’s to come if true. Of course, this information should still be taken with a grain of salt. But considering Keanu Reeves is one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, it isn’t exactly surprising that Marvel would want him for a major character. With that in mind, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any further updates on Keanu Reeves joining the MCU and who exactly he could be playing. The possibilities really are endless, especially with the Multiverse expanding, so it’ll be exciting to see what happens going forward. via ScreenGeek https://ift.tt/pJuBMzi

Once I dreamed my friend and I would cook a salt stone together. We boiled it, sawed it into slices, put them onto plates, salted them a little...
Today I’m asking myself if it was a premonition of discussing the MCU on tumblr.

lousysharkbutt: the shortest endgame opinion...
Y'all really mad they made Thor fat. God forbid, right?
Real mad they decided ‘Depression And Alcoholism But It’s Funny ‘Cause He’s Fat’ was the only character trait he had in the film but go off I guess????
God forbid a fat character be treated with some dignity instead of being a punchline in every scene?
God forbid Marvel gives a single shit about any of Thor’s supporting characters or hanging story lines, right?
God forbid we take two seconds away from Tony Stark’s home life to check in on how Asgard is doing beyond destitute fishing village because the Russo’s forgot that Asgardians are magical aliens with advanced tech that might have been useful to the plot somehow, right???
GOD FORBID Thor get a scene where he realizes this plan involves pretty much everyone but him getting back what they lost and having to grapple with that in any kind of serious manner, right?!
And GOD FUCKIGN FORBID we stop taking potshots at the earlier Thor movies for having the gall to have FANTASY ELEMENTS in them hahahaha dark elves are sooo stupid, ammirite but the sentient cape and talking raccoon are very serious tho.

It’s not right that Carol Danvers is literally the strongest character in the MCU, but despite all her power, Tony was still fucking sacrificed to save everyone.
That does NOT sit right with me.

i love me some good salt. prepare to be sprinkled lmao, in the spirit of:
“fucking antis make your own posts”
original 2018 post and my december reblog here, screenshot below for convenience...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
flash-forward to the present, end of march 2022. so i’m just randomly scrolling today and i see a suggested blog with a gif of comic-con LOKI. and i’m like oh, this blogger likes original LOKI, let me check them out.
lo and behold, i discover the above post which i already added my own thoughts to had been reblogged back in december last year (i wasn’t properly tagged so i never got notified) by the op’s sideblog, with the following:
Tumblr media
lmao... seems to me someone doesn’t like being wrong. not that i was calling the op out for not correctly magically predicting the future. i was making commentary on how badly marvel had under-delivered to fan expectations. op chose to take it personally, i can’t help that.
the op posted their excitement in 2018, before the series was even filmed. and ALL of us wanted to see “six to eight hours of that dude up there” (no not the guy with the salt. LOKI. of course. MCU LOKI.)
we however did not. we got 2 hours and eleven minutes of tom hiddleston’s presence on screen (excluding president LOKI). and during that entire time, “that dude up there” never even showed himself.
no power on earth or above will convince me that the person in this gif was present at any moment in the series.
Tumblr media
and why should i be mollified with the argument that tom’s character got more screentime than any other, in a series TITLED WITH LOKI’S NAME, and promoted to be HIS STORY at LAST?
of COURSE he got more screentime, he was supposed to be the star. as op pointed out originally, thor got 58 minutes screentime in one of his films; spider-man got 76 minutes in one of his. it’s EXPECTED for the title character’s screen time to exceed others’.
but LOKI himself? sadly i didn’t see him at all. i saw tom (sometimes), someone who vaguely resembled tom but with all his grace and presence stripped away others. and the rest of the time i was subjected to an endless parade of brand new OCs who i didn’t recognise at all and cared far less than that about.
and you, op, choose to take the entire thing personally and dump on me for “sprinkling salt”? i will bury your post in NATRON if i have something to say. if you liked what we were given last year more power to you. i didn’t and have just as much right to say so on my own blog as you on yours.
tom had this to say about the series, prior to airing:

this is my response:

WAIT noir stevetony isn’t a canon thing? Like they?? Never met?? Is Noir Marvel even real??
hi there! :)
Do take note that i've never actually read the comics themselves, so do read this with a pinch of salt. But here's a brief rundown of my understanding of "stevetony noir":
Noir Marvel is indeed real! It's set in Earth-90214 where Marvel basically takes some superheroes such as Tony, Peter, Luke Cage and some others in a universe that is set in 1920s-1940s. In this universe, Tony is an adventurer (basically Han Solo) who travels around the world with Rhodey & Pepper and they ... well, go on adventures HAHAH. These adventures are then written down into this magazine called Marvels (lmao yes, really) which is an adventure magazine that is catered to men. He's also Iron Man still in this universe, just a much technologically inferior one as compared to his other counterparts in 616/MCU/AA because of when this universe takes place.
Okay, so where the hell is Steve then you might ask? Well, Steve doesn't actually exist in this universe. Maybe he does! We don't know for sure. But (as far as my knowledge goes), he doesn't actually appear in the comics. Which is where stevetonies step in.
The fandom thought that "hey! wouldn't it be great if Steve & Tony actually meet in this universe, considering this universe takes place around the time Steve actually exists (before he goes into the ice in other universes and the whole shebang)."
It's also important to take note that this "Marvel Noir Steve" is sometimes influenced by the Bullet Points universe, Earth-70105. In this universe, Steve actually becomes Iron Man because Dr. Erskine died before Project Rebirth managed to happen. And so, instead of becoming a super soldier, he becomes Iron Man instead and goes off to fight in World War II still. Unlike his many other counterparts such as 616/MCU/AA, he comes out of the war without being frozen (although he did die at the end of this mini-series - years after the War - but we don't talk about that).
So yeah, Marvel Noir stevetony is actually a fanon thing! A very popular one that many people may mistake for a canon one. However, I do love this fanon universe because it just makes for such a fun thing to play around with!
For instance, one of the more popular headcanon is that Steve & Tony meet because Tony's not able to manoeuvre the Iron Man suit anymore (due to heart conditions like his 616 counterpart) and thus, passes it on to Steve who then fights in World War II - this is influenced by the Bullet Points universe.
Or Steve & Tony meet because Steve wants to become an illustrator - the same way his counterpart in 616 was a freelance artist iirc - for the Marvels magazine, and so they go off on adventures together.
Or this headcanon in this very cute fic by Sineala where Steve & Tony meet at a party after Project Rebirth, and Steve is a huge fan of Tony. The possibilities are endless! And thus, makes for a very fun fanon thing :)
Hope this clarifies your understanding of Marvel Noir stevetony!
P.S. Anyone who knows more about comics than I do, do add on or tell me in the chat if I got things wrong! :)

You know what, dear journalists? Damn you.
Loki already broke the 4th wall. At sdcc 2013. The outstanding part is that Loki -unlike other 4th wall breaks- didn’t enter “our” world in doing so, but pulled “us” into his. That is the power only OG Loki has.

Hi there, I'm a really big fan of your metas and I appreciate the perspective you bring since you are a lot more focused on canon than most people I follow (I personally prefer the ~vibe of twilight over the execution so Im guilty of a lot of canon-divergent "what-if-ing" lol). I'm not sure if you've addressed this before but I was wondering: what draws you most to twilight? Is there anything you would want to change about the series? I hope you're having a nice day! -bellaslilpapercut
Ooh this is a fun ask. And thank you for your kind words!! For the record I too enjoy my what-ifs, too much in fact. Fanfic is a years-long addiction of mine.
As for what draws me to Twilight, I’ll just bullet point them.
The vampires Meyer’s vampires aren’t really vampires at all, they’re aliens who call themselves vampires. They’re absolutely fascinating creatures, terrifying and inhuman in a way so few authors manage to create true inhumanity. (I find so many supernatural creatures end up basically being gimmicks, enhanced humans at best. If you can’t tell your vampire apart from an MCU superhero, you’re doing it wrong.)
The worldbuilding There are many things I like about Meyer’s worldbuilding, one of them being her restraint. There are vampires, shapeshifters, and a one-off reference to the nearly extinct werewolves. That’s it. She created the creatures her story needed, and not one leprechaun more. And I like that for a lot of reasons, the big one being that it makes her creatures serve the story, rather than the other way around. Another major thing I like about her worldbuilding is that a lot of fantasy stories want to have their regular modern world the reader can recognize and eat the vampire cake too. You get these universes where the supernatural exists, only it’s secret and hasn’t impacted the world we know in any way because... reasons. The Vampire Diaries is a great example, we have vampires eat people with abandon yet their existence is a secret to the world at large. Why is that? Why, in a world where the supernatural is commonplace, does the world not look different? Twilight answers these questions.
The characters Meyer creates so many great characters. I have my favorites, of course, but I find nearly all the characters she created interesting. (Well, considering how so many of the characters we get to know in the Guide are hilarious, perhaps “entertaining” is a better word for it) More, while there are some characters that could have been cut (Esme and Emmett come to mind), on the whole most characters in the story have a reason to be in it. And that’s not a given at all, Harry Potter is a shining example of a cast where 90% could have been cut. (Example: remove the Crouch family from Goblet of Fire and have Pettigrew abduct Harry instead of Barty Crouch Jr.. The plot doesn’t change at all. The Crouch family has failed the sexy lamp test. So have almost all of Harry’s classmates.)
The unreliable narrator Caveat - I think all narrators are in some way unreliable. The difference is how much, and to how great a degree what’s actually happening shines through to the reader. And Twilight is a story where there’s stuff happening behind the scenes all the time, people Bella doesn’t understand doing things for reasons Bella doesn’t know about, and Bella never realizes any of it. This makes Twilight a lot of fun to engage with.
The loose threads I sort of get into this below, but there are so many loose threads in Twilight, which means endless fanfic material. Other fandoms, where I wouldn’t change a thing, end up being fandoms I don’t write anything for either. (See Prometheus - loved it, never writing fic for it) Why change perfection? Twilight, on the other hand, I get ideas faster than I can write them.
As for what I’d change...
I’m happy with the story. It’s not quite the story I would have written, off the top of my head I would have gone a different direction with Victoria and had her successfully kidnap Bella in New Moon, only to find that killing this human when Edward clearly doesn’t care would be no revenge at all, and that this human is really all she’s got left at this point. (See? I do like my what-ifs!).
Alternatively, if I was writing the story that occurs in Twilight, then I would have chosen Carlisle’s point of view and it would have been Othello with vampires, featuring Aro as Desdemona. I mean, that already is the story, it’s just that Bella’s narration is so oblivious she never realizes.
This is not to say I wouldn’t have done a lot of things very differently if I were writing Twilight. Jasper, for instance, I would not have him drop “fun fact, I fought for the right to own slaves!” mid-conversation and then never bring it up again. And bigger things, such as I would have cut Jacob and the wolves entirely (And now we’re back to “Victoria kidnaps Bella and the story turns into femmeslash”. I end up with weird ships in Twilight, and the thing is that I see no way around them. How do you people who ship the canon pairs do it?! Tell me your secrets!).
Point being, I would have changed a lot of things. Breaking up the Cullens is another big one, that coven is unsustainable and I'm like a Persian warrior because all I wanna do is watch these Olympics fall.
And there’s one thing I’d change unequivocally, the first thing I’d change, the thing I would pull into a dark alley and stab, and that’s the imprinting. It’s a life-ruiner for everybody involved, it plays into this nasty theme of the shapeshifters losing their free will, and it doesn’t even serve the story to make up for it. Jacob and the Quileutes had no need to be in the story in Breaking Dawn, the Cullens could have left town (and were going to) and that would have been it. So, I would cut the imprinting. With a knife.
This is not to say I don’t like what Meyer did, though. I agree with the decisions the characters make, big and small, at no point in the series do I go “X wouldn’t do that, that’s OOC!”. I even like the plot of Breaking Dawn. Everything that happens in the story makes sense to me. I do, sincerely, enjoy Twilight. It’s just- well, it’s not how I would have told this story.
Oh, and of course - the use of a real minority the way Meyer did was egregious and she should never have done it. More, I was shocked and disappointed to learn the Quileute tribe didn’t profit from this. You would think they would have been involved in merch for Twilight - this could have become a huge source of income for them - but nope. Others have spoken far more eloquently than me on this matter and have said everything I could, so I’ll just note that no fictional series should use (there’s really no other word for it) a real and oppressed minority the way Twilight did. The fact that the Quileute tribe didn’t even get to see any of that Twilight money is just salt in the wound.

When it first came out, I thought the events of the Black Widow movie had happened way back in her past. That would, imo, explain why she didn't have anyone and never talk about ppl in her life before the Shield/Avengers era.
But the movie takes place during Civil War, apparently, so the encounter with her family happened not long before she died. It sucks that they tried to make her a "lone wolf that no one would miss" and have her sacrifice herself when a few months before she was on a mission with her sister and parents! All the time, Natasha acted like she never had anyone and I understand that those years in Ohio were a little part of her life in comparison to her life as Widow, but in the movie, she acted as an Older Sister™️ since her first interaction with Yelena (I mean as adults). She asks her to stop fighting back and ultimately just follows her without knowing much about what's going on and they go on a mission together. She bickers with Alexei and shows Melina that the advice she gave her all those years ago still ring true and is what stopped her of becoming heartless. It was real for her, she says as much. If she was truly a lone wolf, would she be so comfortable around them again?
Anyways, this movie just doesn't fit within the main MCU storyline and it's perfect because I love to pick and choose canon and form my own universe. Now, I can add the Widow Family to my "Natasha didn't die AU" and live with the knowledge that she's getting exasperated at Alexei and Melina endless flirting and choosing nice vests for Yelena (more pockets the better).
Also, since their family was still present in her mind/heart, it would be amazing to see her mentioning little things in passing like, to Steve: "I met a guy like you before (meaning a super soldier), but he wore mostly red" and Steve would be like ????? Or she mention something science-y and explains that she learned that from a wise woman, many years ago (and the other avengers think she's talking about some other spy she knew but she actually means her mom!) Thor mentions some old fight with Loki and she just nods because "siblings, right?" and everyone else is "You don't have siblings?????" and she replies, sipping a beer, "Don't I?".
It would be so cool! 😌 Obviously I understand that they didn't plan ahead but it feels weird that she was with them and then went back to being the loner just so she could have been killed. And, to add salt to injury, they brought it back like Clint was the one that killed her and set Yelena up to hunt him. 🤦🏽‍♀️ This would be the last thing Natasha would want.

What are your least fav troupes in Naruto and Marvel?
is my salt something you’re ready for??? the longer i make this list the more heated i get and the more heated i get the longer i make this list and it just becomes an endless cycle of rage
i’m excited. LET’S GO
Naruto
- Suave Itachi. Like, sex-god Itachi. I’m sorry, in which part of looking at that stupid idiot are you going to think this man has any social competence. And yeah, I get that people have liberty for character interpretation, but the moment you see it happen a lot is when you start to wonder if its a misconception. Like sure I’ll admit to reading fics where he’s like that, but realistically? Mans defected at 13 and his only personality traits are 1) loving his brother and 2) angst. I guarantee you he’s incapable of processing complex emotions. He isn’t suave, he’s a mess with a handsome face, and I’m tired of pretending he’s not.
- People getting sucked into the Naruto-verse. Look, I’m all about self-indulgence and all that stuff and if you’re into it, all power to you. Me? Miss me with that. I’ve never read one, I’ll never read one, that’s that on that.
- Mary Sues and Gary Stus. But like, to the extent of things like being the jinchuuriki for the Ten-Tailed Wolf or that one character having the Byakugan, Sharingan, and the Rinnegan OR a character having a variation of a bloodline that either trumps all these three or is indestructible. At that point
- Main character OCs. Sorry guys, this just isn’t my cup of tea. Much like the sucked into the Naruto-verse trop, I’ve never read one and I’ll never read it. Why make up a whole character to drive the story when you have the entirety of the world at your disposal? Villains don’t count, but made up siblings or friends of canon characters do
- SPEAKING OF OCs I really, really, really won’t read a Naruto fic that has weirdly out of place names??? Make it make sense. Make it make sense. Make it make sense. If your fic is steeped in only Japanese culture and every single one of your characters have Japanese names and there’s suddenly a John in the middle of your fic, what’s the point?? Crossovers don’t count of course, and if you don’t know what you’re doing DON’T DO IT???
- Sakura-bashing. Yeah? You’re going to make her “scream like a banshee”? Tried and tired.
- Also like, Sakura getting angry immediately or doing shit like trying to hurt Naruto every ten seconds??? Because yeah she has a temper but have y’all ever met an actual human being.
- Godlike/Edgelord/Overpowered-to-the-point-that-it’s-not-fun-anymore characters. Ain’t that just boring?
- Just like, complete dialogue exchanges or paragraphs in Japanese when it isn’t the main language. You know that’s not necessary, right? You understand you don’t need to do that, right?
- Completely unredeemable Sasuke. Don’t get me wrong, I do like him as an asshole but not irreversibly. People have depth and dimension. You could probably figure something out with him.
- There’s more. I know there’s more. I can feel it in my bones.
Marvel
- Where Peter goes on a field trip to Avengers Tower. Listenlistenlistenlisten Y’ALL LISTEN TO ME. Yes, I understand that the definition of a trope is due to its overuse or constants, but there’s a difference between ‘overused’ and ‘getting spammed.’ All I do is scroll and it’s just field trip, field trip, field trip, Flash being a dick, the class no way believing that he’s got a real Stark Internship, the Avengers embarrassing Peter, Peter’s clearance level being RIDICULOUSLY high. Half of those MCU!Peter fics are field trip fics that go exactly the same way.
- Completely, ridiculously, ultimately shy-uwu-angel Peter. Like, he acts like a 6 year old when he’s a teenager. Please, y’all. PLEASE.
- “Chaos ensues” in the summary. This is just a nitpicky thing because I’m tired of seeing it.
Both/General Fanfic Tropes
- Excessive swearing. No one uses “fuck” and “shit” as every other word. Real people don’t talk like that. I mean I bet there are, but I guarantee you the majority doesn’t. Please.
- Texting grammar. If you write with ‘plz’ or ‘lol’ and stuff like that in the usual writing of your fic, don’t do that??? Write normally?? Like you’re writing a legit fic??
- Summaries that are a string of “what if” “will they” questions. What if?? Every single fanfic in the world is a what if!! Will they??? YEAH. GENERALLY.
I’m sure there’s a bunch of other things, but I mean everything’s just a matter of opinion, right? These ones though I can’t stand and I won’t read.

don’t let this be the end
don’t let this be the end: part one (out of two)
summary:
Sometimes, Peter Parker felt a little sad.
Thinking back, it was nothing at first. There was only the feeling of being under the weather, something he often experienced when high school wore him down. He had bad days, like everyone else, and that was valid.
How did he go from there to...here? His feet dangling off the bridge, his heartbeat quick and fast, knowing that one slide, one push right off the edge would end him forever?
It was… a long story.

Sometimes, Peter Parker felt a little sad.
Thinking back, it was nothing at first. There was only the feeling of being under the weather, something he often experienced when high school wore him down. He had bad days, like everyone else, and that was valid.
But this day was different.
Somehow he’d ended up at an empty bridge after patrol at 1 am, when the bridge was silent and all was still.
He’d taken off his mask as he stood over the ledge to quiet Karen, who’d been reminding Peter of all the good things in his life. It was like she had instinctively known why he stared down into the water, like she’d known that he couldn’t swim and that drowning was his worst fear, like she had known what he thought of doing.
But it wasn’t like he was going to jump.
Right?
Peter brushed away the tears in his eyes, and sat against the metal bars, his feet over the ledge. Taking off his web shooters, he placed them by his side.
You know, just in case.
He leaned his head back. Lately his days were full of flashbacks that triggered his panic attacks. Vivid images of Ben, of Mr. Stark's near-death state, of Toomes and the building burying him alive were fresh in his mind. Nights were no better, because the same memories occupied his dreams, and he always woke up screaming.
Peter sighed. He’d been so happy, so...full of life. How did he go from there to...here? His feet dangling off the bridge, his heartbeat quick and fast, knowing that one slide, one step right off the edge would end him forever?
Right, he reminded himself, standing up and looking down, one step.
One step, he thought, one step and I won’t be a burden to May.
He remembered when he was up late one night, doing a school project he didn’t have time to do before. He was focused, and the quietness of the city compared to daytime helped him. Because of the vast difference in noise, his senses tingled just as the door opened and May came in. She was close by, so he could hear everything she did.
It was nothing new. May had late night shifts once every so often, and Peter knew that, so he minded his own business, keeping quiet so she wouldn’t know he was still up. Spidermanning wasn’t supposed to interfere with his school work, so if May knew, she’d freak out, and probably ground him for the rest of his life.
And then he heard it.
The crying.
Peter was confused at first, seeing as he and May were the only ones in the apartment, but then it occurred to him that May could’ve been the one crying.
The thought was...weird. He hadn’t seen her cry since Ben’s funeral, and even then she’d hid it from him, so he only saw a few tears.
He snuck out of his room to where May was, peeking around the corner to see her sitting at the table with her head in her hands, bills sprawled out in front of her.
“F**k,” she said to herself, quietly sobbing, “There’s not enough, there’s not…”
Peter trembled. Why hadn’t he noticed before? May was always tired, constantly had bags under her eyes, and was taking shifts left, right, and center.
Was it because of him? Was he the weight she had to carry? Was the reason she cried because she couldn’t afford as much as she was giving him?
He glanced at May again.
The obvious answer was yes.
Peter retreated to his room, tears in his eyes. He was a burden to May, and it was because of him that she was crying.
It was all because of him.
One step and my friends won’t have to deal with me.
Peter remembered the last time he had been out to patrol. He was supposed to go home afterwards, but a random thug had shot his shoulder, and he was then nursing a bullet wound in his arm as he made his way to Ned’s house.
He didn’t know where else to go.
Mr. Stark would’ve gotten mad, and so would May. The longer he could hide this, the better, and Ned had taken a First Aid class for him anyway.
Turns out, bullet wounds aren’t really covered in First Aid.
“Hold still!” Ned pressed on as he tried to take the bullet out.
Peter hissed. There was no pain medicine he could take that would make a big difference, so Peter just had to deal with the ache in his arm as Ned dug around inside. As he removed it, Ned grabbed the gauze and started wrapping the wound, preventing any more blood from flowing out until Peter’s self-healing could kick in.
At least, that’s what Google said.
After treating the injury, Ned made sure to scold Peter for getting shot in the first place (as May would’ve wanted him to), and Peter felt more and more remorseful as Ned talked.
He shouldn’t have come and made his friend worried.
One step and Mr. Stark would be happy.
The last time Peter had seen Mr. Stark was when he was over at the Avengers Tower. He’d said hi to most of the Avengers, and he ran down to Tony’s lab to finish working on his new suit.
He had waited for a while for Mr. Stark, but when he didn't show, Peter decided to work on the suit alone. He'd been so concentrated that his spidey senses didn't tingle when arm grabbed him from behind, and right on the spot of the gunshot wound.
Peter tried to stifle his gasp of pain, and turned around to look for the person behind him.
It was Mr. Stark.
S**t.
“What. Happened. Spill. ” Mr. Stark said, a hard look in his eyes. There was no doubt that Mr. Stark had only grabbed his arm as a harmless prank, but unfortunately, it had gone in the wrong direction.
“W-what do you mean? Nothing happened,” Peter said, giving an unconvincing reply and mentally preparing himself for the lecture that was about to follow.
“Underoos…” Mr. Stark threatened. Peter shrinked back, and lifted up his sleeve.
“So, I-uh, I might’ve gotten shot..but it’s fine! First aid done and everything! No need to worry, Mr. Stark!”
Peter laughed nervously as Mr. Stark glared at him, raising a single eyebrow and sighing loudly.
“Jesus Pete, you need to come to the Tower for injuries! You've obviously treated it alone or with someone who doesn't know a thing about first aid, from what I can tell. How many times do I have to tell you that this is irresponsible and risky! I thought you knew better than that!” Mr. Stark sternly scolded, rubbing his temples.
Peter shrunk under his gaze.
His mentor sighed again. “Go down to Cho right now, no whining,”
“I don’t whine,” Peter mumbled, clutching his arm and heading out of the lab.
The tears in Peter’s eyes refused to cease as he walked out of the room. Tony, however mad he had gotten in the past, had never yelled at him before, and this was an experience he so desperately wanted to forget.
Peter sighed. How many mistakes had he made? Going to Ned’s, having him treat the gunshot wound, not going to the Tower, lying to Mr. Stark and May, the list was endless.
He’d gotten everyone worried. He couldn’t do anything right.
So what if he didn’t try anymore?
Peter sniffled at the memory, and gripped the edge of the bridge, ready to push off. It was the last straw, the turning point, the only time when everything became too much and he had nothing left to give.
One step… Peter smiled, fresh tears running down his face, and everything will be better.
He forced down any last thoughts of regret, feeling empty as he stared down at the water below.
And then he did it. Peter clenched his fists, and took the last step.
But the water never hit.
