An art from December 2022 with a story to tell:
First off, Bruno’s initial name in the story was Oscar.
Second, “Encanto” screenplay says (about Bruno’s lair): “Funny, weird, gross... filled with family heirlooms and knick-knacks, quirky and oddly charming.”
So, thought I… who else has great affinity with a discarded things, is green, and a bit of a bitter recluse with a heart of gold (and used to have a friend named Bruno, what?)… Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street, that’s who. And so, I imagined Tío Oscar admiring his collection of old, dysfunctional items while listening to/singing “I Love Trash”, and so the drawing was born. Design is based on merged concept arts by Meg Park and Bill Schwab.
I included one more fiction reference into the drawing (perhaps too subtle?), guess what is it.

“In his youth, Jose had a rather short temper. He often got into fights with bullies when they started calling him names. Only after he was badly beaten and Ophelia burst into tears because of this (in the comic this is just the beginning, then they will come home and their conversation will continue), Jose decides to come to his senses and will watch his words. It is after this incident that he will walk with a toothpick in his mouth, so that when the bullies stick to him again, he can just squeeze the piece of wood with his teeth and go on”

In this story, Coco has known Rosita and Julio since childhood, these two are residents of Encanto and neighbors of the Riviera. In fact, I have included many characters in the Encanto from the original Coco, including characters from the land of the dead… Well, I love them too much.
Bruno gets a vision of Coco and Julio's wedding and shows it to Rosita… And no, he won't show the vision to anyone else, including Hector!
Maybe Imelda, though…

I wanna take this week to appreciate my OC Oscar. He was originally a recycled version of one of Bruno's concept designs, but I eventually made him into someone (at least I think he is) totally different. He's the self proclaimed brother of Conney, former fiance, the mom friend, coughdilfcough, and one half of my OC ship that I will sail to the very end of the ocean with his beautiful wife Therese.
