Despite his seemingly friendly exterior, AVENTURINE isn’t as easy to get to know as some might assume. He teases, and befriends, and invites, but always keeps people at an arm’s length — for many years this is how he’s lived, and he was wholly under the pretence that he would continue on like this until he died.

Early on in your relationship, it might not feel like you’re even dating at all. He invites you to his fancy IPC parties as a plus one, but gives you about the same amount of attention as everybody else. He asks you about your day, but never talks about himself. It takes him a while to warm up to you — maybe he ends up enchanted watching the way you talk about your passions, or maybe he’s awestruck by the smile you throw his way as you thank him for a gift he got for you. Either way, he falls hard, like a meteor crashing down to earth.

Aventurine’s love language seems like it would be gift-giving, but it’s far too easy to buy you things, he thinks. His time is far more scarce, and therefore far more precious to him. Good Days by SZA played from Miles' speaker, blasting in the background, the gentle splashes of the warm water from the shower onto your curls.

You relaxed, your head leaning back further into the bathtub, your lover grabbing your scalp massager and rubbing it into your scalp carefully, shampoo mixed in, the rest of your products on the end corner of your bathtub.

"Ma, you know you really needed this wash. Your hair was tangled as shit, like a lion or sum.” he says, laughing halfway through his sentence. You scoff at him jokingly, "Miles, when you have hair as long and thick as mine, you can violate my hair."

Miles protested, adding the conditioner to your hair, setting your scalp massager aside. "Baby, my hair is basically almost as long as yours."

"Yeah, almost." you spoke, putting your fingers up to his face in pinching motion, the gems on your acrylics just an inch close to touching his nose, a grin on your face. He backed up, pushing your hands out of his face, continuing your wash routine. "Princesa, lemme finish washing yo hair without your hands all up in my face."

About 3 and a half hours later, your hair was washed and in overnight twists with your bonnet on. You laid with Miles in your bed, legs on top of each others, tired.

"Y'know, you actually good at dealin' wit my hair." you spoke, giving Miles a kiss on his forehead. “When you got a mama like mine, you pretty much have to.” Miles chuckled, shaking his head. “You should let me do it more often.” You smiled in response.

He buried his head into the crook of your neck, slowly dozing off by the way you'd play with the silk of his durag. "I love you Miles."

He mumbled words once again into your neck, half asleep, but you knew what he said.

"I love you more, mi vida."

influencer!reader who got famous for ASMR videos/opening videos where they open geodes, doing tapping videos with different types of gems and rocks, and post informative videos of different rock types/explaining geological formations.

and Venture. Is SUCH a big fan. almost embarrassingly so; they watch every single one of your videos, they’re nearly almost always the first to comment, despite finding you a couple weeks ago, they probably have like 600 hours of watch time on your channel alone. If you come out with any merch, they buy it. And they would love to actually see you at a convention, but they’re usually too busy with work to buy tickets. Have an embarrassing crush on you and fall asleep to your ASMR videos. they probably know your hands more than your face which is super duper kind of weird but they would give anything to hold them.

and this goes one of two ways: either they comment on a video expanding what you said or even outright correcting you and get crucified by your community for it and you have to step in and explain that you aren’t upset by it. That’s what your community is there for. you end up sliding into ventures DM‘s to apologize and they are over the moon when you start talking to them, you two really enjoy talking to each other and just continue to talk and eventually end up dating and it’s so funny that you could now see Venture in your videos, especially some of the meme ones where you visit them at their work and push them down a hole or something.

you post something on Instagram that you’re in the city where venture is currently working. They get so excited they accidentally get super stalkerish and end up finding the coffee shop you like to edit your videos at and explain that they are such a huge fan and they are so sorry for bothering you, but they’ve wanted to meet you for so long and they’ve never gotten a chance to, they especially love XYZ video about XYZ theory on XYZ rock and if you wanted to come check something out at their dig site about it you totally could. venture is totally just rambling on but you find it really cute and a little bit awkward so you accept the invitation and eventually just keep posting videos w them until your community is like “????? so when are u guys dating?”

Simon was an amazing boyfriend, on the contrary of what many people who only knew him from his job thought. He was sweet, kind and patient with you — well, he tried his best always. The weekends were always reserved for you both, he didn't like going out that much either way thinking that parties got boring too fast and some restaurants were just not it, besides, both of you preferred the cozy and fresh air of your home.

You were laying on the couch with that giant of a man on top of you, bare chest and arms showing off those tattoos he took pride in since he knew you loved them so much. His eyes were focusing on the TV show he picked up, something related to. His hand went to your hair tugging on one of your curls, he flickered around his finger and took to smell it moving his eyes up to yours.

"did you change your shampoo?" he asked a bit confused, smelling it again.

"hm? I did, why? you didn't like it?" you looked at him, furrowing your brows and seeing how he toyed with your hair.

"I did ye', it smells like cherries..." he smiled briefly, gorgeous brown eyes looking up at you.

He sat up a bit, his hands on your waist almost tickling but only rubbing the skin up and down, he took the view of you as he always enjoyed. His hand came to rest softly on your thighs, playing around with the shorts you wore, distracted.

"you know I— I was downtown yesterday with Johnny, I bought a thing for ya''. he said looking at the TV, fist closed hitting softly his open palmed. He seemed a bit unsure.

"oh, a gift? where's it?" he could feel the smile on your lips, teasing as you crossed your arms.

Simon looked down at you for a brief second before standing up and going towards the first floor, soon enough he came back with heavy steps and handed a box at you. All tied up with a cute ribbon and nice package, he put so much effort into these things, it was heart filling.

Sitting up on the sofa you smiled at him, taking the package from his hand delicately and placing down your lap. He was anxious to see your reaction, he always got a bit nervous picking things up for you since he was scared you wouldn't like it. Your fingers undid the ribbon, pulling up the box cover, it was a bracelet. A pure silver one with beautiful red gems and looked so damn expensive, your eyes widened, he sat down and looked into your eyes then back down to the gift.

"oh my god, Simon..." you said a bit in awe, usually you didn't receive gifts like this, that fancy, so it was new. "this looks too expensive you shouldn't—"

"sush, none of that now doll, just bought because it would match well with your pretty skin and that earrings set you have too." he reached out to the box, taking the bracelet with care in his rough pads. "gimme your wrist."

You extended your wrist as he said, Simon opened the bracelet and put it on you. It fitted perfectly, your brows furrowed with a bit of confusion, how did he know your wrist size?

"since when you know the size?" you asked, smiling at him and checking the iced bracelet out. such a pretty sight.

"got keep an eye on my poppet, so, what do you say?" he waited for your answer, arms crossed checking your wrist with a smudge.

"I think you're pretty smart, Simon Riley." you teased, putting the box away from your lap. "and I think, you deserve a gift too..."

You leaned against his frame, his arms opening to welcome you into a warm embrace around your waist, soft giggles before diving into a passionate kiss. He was a passionate man after all, even if the gems on your wrist cost thousands, you were priceless to this man, but he liked to keep pretty things like you shinning.

The clock rewound, begin the count from 99.

Odile stared up at the ceiling, her vision blurry with the other eye obscured by a light coming from her face, or rather, the cracks forming on her body. It's just about what she expected, really. Taking on the entire House, not allowing even a single break during any battle, pushing and pushing far past the limits of what one body could take, all by herself… She did it all by herself. She was at her wit's end, anyone would be, with the very situation she found herself in, anyone would be. To be stuck in a timeloop, to witness the people you care about get hurt over and over again, to witness the victory of a battle hard won only to start over again and again, to witness the end of the journey and listen to the broken record that is the Headhouse Maiden over and over again.

She never really understood Why? Why are they stuck in a timeloop? Why is she the only one that remembers? Even after going through so many loops, finding out more about the secrets of the world, wish craft, the island north of Vaugarde, the King, Siffrin… Right, Siffrin, the most suspicious one of all, to be able to read that strange script in some loops. Some. Some… Odile didn't like the prerequisite for it. To die to the King's strange attack, it seems to have a next loop effect on Siffrin, she didn't like it. Not one bit. But it did tell her something, that whatever is happening right now is connected to him in one way or another.

Not like it matters now though, her vision on her other eye is completely obscured by a blinding white light. And her hearing, has gotten muffled, she can feel her… family members, by her side. They seem to be speaking, shouting as well maybe.

I wonder if they're calling me stupid…

She'd chuckle if she could. After all the hurtful things she had told them prior to… this. She wouldn't even mind if they start cursing at her. She deserves it. Odile moved her one somewhat good eye to see who was beside her. It was Siffrin, she thinks, and someone else, Boniface, maybe. Are they crying? Out of anger or worry? Is the one blurring her vision death… or tears? She doesn't know anymore. She can see the silhouette of an arm moving, hers maybe, she can't feel it, but maybe it is. There are numerous cracks on it, a blinding light seeping through. That's hers alright.

The King is gone, right? She wanted to confirm. Vaugarde will be saved, right? She wanted to ask them. Everything will be alright now? She didn't want to die with any regrets.

Well, at the very least, the funeral ceremony of Ka Bue was fulfilled in a way, not in a traditional sense and definitely not what she expected to happen either. With a body seemingly made of gems, to shatter upon death. It's hauntingly beautiful. At the very least… She won't have to burden them in her death…

[You… Closed… Yo u yyyyooo u u u uuu u rrrrrrrr r r eeeyy e ee e ee sss s s ss s . . . ]

[.. . . . . .. . Yoouu u uuu rr eyeeeee e ee esss s s s… o p e n e d . . . once more.]

Odile flinched, an electrifying jolt seemingly passed by her body, beads of sweat immediately formed on her forehead, with eyes blown wide, she quickly scanned her surroundings. She's back… at the shop in… Dormont…??? How…? WHY?!

Her gaze darted to the sound of the door opening, it was Siffrin with Mirabelle seemingly following behind him. And he… looks like he's seen a ghost…

Get back on the stage, researcher.

*it's been a decade since the company C&A has declared bankruptcy and shut down, suspiciously just in time as several missing report cases became public. Searches went cold and they were declared dead, obviously many suspects the company and it's higher ups of any involvement but with no proof, the case was closed and forgotten and the company's assets were sold away to those interested in them*

*After unfortunately getting a promotion from the company you work for, you were given an odd USB that was collecting dust in the storage bin instead of the usual celebration because you qoute from them "Things are getting more expensive here" Yeah right and so they decided to give you this old piece of junk but when they explained that the USB belongs to the C&A company before their bankruptcy you were curious on its contents*

*What could be inside this USB? Some kind of company secret? a file containing sensitive info? Some video of worker's training? At this point you aren't sure as all you know is that the company used to air some weird 3d shows that no one seems to remember. Maybe you should plug it in to see or maybe you can just sell the damn thing again but who the hell would want an old USB? Collectors maybe?*

*It would take you another week and a half to finally get curious enough to actually plug in the darn thing to your PC, when you did it prompt a request to download and wanting to know what contains in the damn thing, You click accept as it started downloading. it took a while and after it finishes downloading, An app icon appear on your desktop, it says "The amazing DIGITAL CIRCUS", hovering your mouse over it, you double click and... it opened to a blank screen, confuse, you click anything in the screen, nothing, you pressed Esc and it merely brought you back to your Monitor, is that it? what a rip off*

*Well you sure hope it isn't any kind of virus, you lean over to your pc to pull out the USB , Ready to throw it back at your boss for some actual money for your promotion when you suddenly hear a warped noise, almost sounding like a liquid being plunged through by something or someone, you turn back to your monitor and felt your heart jump to your throat as you see a gloved red hand sticking through your monitor, reaching out to you*

In this au, after being trapped in the digital world for at least 20 years, the performers were finally given the means of exit but not in the way that they thought, being in the digital world for so long their bodies were basically turned into digital overtime and their human bodies and memories are lost. So now basically think of them as like the gems from steven universe in the real world now.

They live with the reader after making a bit of deal with them and after calming them down (Cuz u would get scared too if you see this giant grinning rabbit man in yo living room)

They can use any devices with screens as like portals to the real world and to the digital world but also to get from one place to another, their size changes depending on which device they come out from, they can be small like around 4-6 inches when coming out of an apple watch for example, normalish (but still bigger than human) when coming out of a 55 inch tv screen and just flat out giant when coming out of a digital billboard, thankfully they can only go into a device in which the reader has access on so no giant Jax terrorizing some poor city.

They also cannot go too far from the reader, if they are very far like around 10 feet apart, they are instantly teleported next to the reader (kinda like a minecraft dog lmao)

Since they are technically in digital bodies, they do not need to eat nor drink BUT they do get tired now as they aren't constantly being fed electricity like in their digital world, they can recharge by either A. Napping (Not reccomended as it would take a day to fully recharge), B. Going into any devices and just staying there until their battery is full (Alright) or C. They can literally just place a plugged in charger in their mouth and they will recharge (They charge fast this way but with the reader's limited chargers they just tend to do the second option)

Reader was traumatized from their first encounter and literally barricaded themselves in their bathroom with all their devices turned off after learning they can use them as portals, Stayed there for about a day and a half before Ragatha managed to talk through them.

They tend to be small when they are out, mostly because the reader always brings their phone everywhere and thats how they usually be with the reader.

You all know those shimeji companion that you can download into your phone and you can pick them up and stuff? Well the reader can do that while they are in her phone but they also can mess with the reader's apps and stuff.

Caine is there but since he is an ai through and through, he just enjoys his retirement in the reader's pc and cannot get out into the real world.

Pomni thinks that she owes the reader big time for saving her from the digital hell.

The name of this Au is "Digital Circus is out!" (May change soon)

Corvus is a creature or fae whose origins seems to come from the stars above, theyre very astronomically aligned and hold the concept of space very closely to themselves. they seem to embody it, from their manner of speech to their aesthetic, u can most definitely say that theyre out of this world. One moment he's all boisterous and being overly friendly, and the next they're crying because of some sad mlp tribute video they watched. No one can tell what they're thinking, and I don't think he can tell either.

They don't possess the traditional kind of magic, so they have no need for a magic gem, or for a unique magic, their magical power is condensed in their scarf that they never seem to take off, he uses it as a rope heehee.

How they got into NRC however, is unknown.

Corvus is generally a very nice person, they're a jovial character that smiles a lot....maybe smiles a little too much for anyones liking..see, what Corvus makes up for with their outward charming looks, they lack in social cues. He isnt too sure how to interact with other people, cuz hes never done that kinda stuff before, so they either end up being too friendly or just ends up weirding them out.

They always look so mischievous, like they're planning smthn...but nah he's just thinking about what he's gonna eat for dinner. Quite literally ":3" personified.

They'd lean in a little too close and ask how many fridges are in your home and then wonder why you just ran of all of a sudden. They're eccentric like that! The way they move around is theatrical, and dramatic, very animated in demeanor, their mind doesn't seem to be all there, yknow? Always floating and wandering off somewhere.

GREAT friends with Rook

Divus is their favorite teacher, often hangs out around his classroom or the alchemy lab, shows him funny video of cats while Divus just sighs cuz he knows he can't make Corvus leave.

1. Which part of the series was your introduction to HTTYD? How old were you when you first became a fan?

i rmr it pretty well. i was abt 11 years old & my mom found the first movie on comcast on demand & wanted to find a movie for us we (my siblings & i) hadn't seen so she chose it. i rmr the year prior with all the commercials on tv & stuff & was like hey!! i rmr wanting to see this! cool!! and i rlly liked the movie!!!!! my full obsession, however, didn't start until abt a year later when she brought home this pack of the first 6 books (that's all that was available at the time!) & reading through them i rewatched the movie & we had it on dvd by that point and that was it. the rest is history

5. What type of dragon do you think best matches your personality?

oh gosh. the impulse to say my fave but whispering deaths don't rlly "match" me personality wise. tbh a gronckle, me thinks. with a personality like meatlug or shattermaster. :') they're such goofy goobers but they're also rlly sweet & i am so soft for that LOL. they remind me of the dog i grew up with with how snorty they are & the way they wag their tails :'))

snotstrid... IDK their chemistry is just??? i love how they constantly bicker & snotlout is just a piece of shit & it causes astrid to retaliate & treat him like that even when he's not actively being a piece of shit which pisses him off & yet they always somehow end up by each other or saving each other much to astrid's chagrin half the time & then snotlout's confusion UGH ESP SNOTLOUT'S ANGELS the nose flick & then astrid admitting she doesn't hate him & his FACE HIS FUCKING FACE he's so got a genuine crush on her but doesn't know how to Behave & i love them getting together & then breaking up & for astrid it's smth she looks back on fondly but never wants to go back to while snotlout is stuck adding her to his list of ppl being the one that got away & yearning..... they're also so funny together & i feel like if they're ever on the same page they're so powerful & it's scary LOL

fishlout used to be my fave & i still love it. rtte spent more time building their relationship to each other than either of them with ruffnut & we all saw the potential of what could have been :') it can easily fall into the jock x nerd thing but it's more than that to me bc while fishlegs is anxious he doesn't take snotlout's shit lying on his back (esp after gem of a different color) & by rtte fishlegs is rolling his eyes & quipping back & it's just forever this contest of who comes out on top & then u have thw whole thor bonecrusher thing & it can so easily be an exploration in snotlout's bisexuality (and fishlegs'!) esp after return of thor bonecrusher when snotlout is just SO happy fishlegs is back to the point where he gives him a hug (and was like :D woah when fishlegs bodied a dude to protect him) & they def had a brief stint after that. they don't talk abt it. it's only between them... snotlout yearns so badly...

i'm realizing my fave ship is anything that'll make snotlout yearn & wish he could have someone as all of his friends find their ppl or are comfortable with themselves enough to not need a romantic partner LMAO

It's time to learn from Letters from Watson "What John Rance Had to Tell."

But first, Holmes explains some of his deductions. He does not explain what the long fingernails on the right hand mean.

And he comes out with what is for me, as a modern reader, a doozy:

The A [in RACHE], if you noticed, was printed somewhat after the German fashion. Now, a real German invariably prints in the Latin character, so that we may safely say that this was not written by one, but by a clumsy imitator who overdid his part. It was simply a ruse to divert inquiry into a wrong channel.

What? A German fashion of writing?

OKAY. It turns out that, prior to World War II, German was written in different scripts than other European languages, which the University of Wisconsin has documented for us because German immigrants continued to use them.

Here are a snipper of UW's examples of Kurrent and Sütterlin, as well as capital letters from Wikimedia's Fraktur.

The Fraktur A looks so much like a U that I can't believe Lestrade wouldn't have read the word as "ruche" and decided the victim was a dressmaker.

Calligrascapes gives examples of Spencerian (U.S.) and Copperplate (UK) handwriting of the late Victorian period here. Lower-case A looks almost the same as in Kurrent. I feel like our wall-scrawler must have used Sütterlin.

That our killer is familiar with a German A implies he either reads German comfortably or corresponds regularly with people of German ancestry. Since Holmes says "a real German" would use Latin letters (so he corresponds with Germans or visits Germany), killer is presumably familiar with a German-American community, which is certainly plausible if he's from Ohio (or Pennsylvania, or much of the Upper Midwest).

Whew.

Holmes' passing mention of going "to Halle's concert to see Norman Neruda" is about seeing Czech violinist Wilma Norman-Neruda perform at an occasion organized by Anglo-German pianist and conductor Sir Charles Hallé (also Norman-Neruda's future second husband).

Finally, we arrive at the home of Constable Rance. Last episode, it was given as Audley Court, Kennington Toll Gate. The latter part is a real place, the site of a toll gate that was demolished about 15 years before the time of the story. Here's an old photo shared by The Underground Map.

Today the site of the toll gate is a plaza with public art.

The "long succession of dingy streets and dreary by-ways" suggests the cab ride was to somewhere near the old toll gate site (possibly just west of St. Mark's Church, which is the tower in the background), rather than directly to the triangle of land where it sat. There's not a lot of space right there, due to Kennington Park, which has a long history as a public common and site of hangings.

I suspect any police constable trying to live in London today would sympathize with Rance's living in a "sordid dwelling." Rance also takes bribes.

Rance is, of course, astonished by Holmes' powers of deduction. But what was the "drunk" man singing? I was sure in my heart that "Columbine" was "Columbia" (an old-fangled term for the United States) and searching for that made it possible to cheat when I Heard of Sherlock's discussion of this matter came up in my search results. It's "Columbia, Gem of the Ocean." Here's an audio file.

Where on earth did a whip come from? We've no such wounds on the victim, and the killer came with him in a cab.

I might not have gone but for you, and so have missed the finest study I ever came across: a study in scarlet, eh? Why shouldn’t we use a little art jargon. There’s the scarlet thread of murder running through the colourless skein of life, and our duty is to unravel it, and isolate it, and expose every inch of it.

And... title drop! If this is the fates weaving the tapestry of life, surely it says something about Holmes that all the other threads are colorless besides murder.

unfortunately i don’t plan on posting this series to A03, for a couple reasons. the biggest reason is that A03 is currently a prime spot for AI bots to scrape writing from and i’m very much against AI ‘art’ in any form (i don’t think it has any place in creative ventures and it’s extremely devaluing as a writer tbh).

BUT also, so much of this au is developed via asks and art and additional text posts that i’d be putting like 10 links in every chapter’s notes and hoping ppl click them or else get stuck answering the same questions over and over again. which occasionally happens here bc there’s just so much to read through, but having easily accessible links in my pinned directory seems to help? IDK

so i do apologize for the inconvenience, but i don’t foresee my HTP fics getting moved to A03. but i do try to give advance notice before a new chapter drops and link it on my directory pretty quick so hopefully that helps w keeping track?
