and the waves ravethey can't brake, as we rake
we've been drowning, carried away
couldn't stay in the midst of fray
the moon lights upon
us in your chimney, gray
won't take that name away
its memories flow
breaking bleak
you're my beautiful wildflower
but now's my adieu
sorry dear
can't stay here, let go.
— e.c., drown

It’s weird,
catching up to the reality
there was never anything
wrong with me

Now here was a fun surprise. I thought I won a short stack of Walt Kelly Pogo stuff at Saturday’s North Star Auction, but at the bottom was a comic book that looked like it lost its cover. Nope, it’s Mad #21, E.C., March 1955, back when it was in comic format (pre-magazine).
It was also the first appearance of Alfred E. Neuman on the cover of Mad. (He was on the cover of a 1954 paperback book of reprints, “The Mad Reader”, but that doesn’t count as much.) This puppy is also worth a bit, even in lower-grade condition. Neat-o.
