Not-not tagged by various mutuals for this so I tried my own hand! Most of my OCs appear fully formed like Athena bursting from Zeus' head so instead I tried to dissect the subconscious inspirations that Mino could have been born from.
Aragorn: Look LOTR is the most formative piece of media in my entire life. You see a Rohirrim cavalry charge when you're like 8 and it imprints on you forever and ever, okay? Anyway, Aragorn as the natural born destined leader that spends the majority of his life denying and running from it, but has such a strong sense of duty and morality that he cannot in good conscience abandon those that need him? He steps up anyway despite how much he does not want it nor thinks he deserve it because he just can't let his companions/his love/the world fall? Mino is very Aragorn coded, lol. The destined Leader/Deity|King that embodies everything they avoid being and Do Not Want, and accepts in the end that heavy crown with duty and grace.
Jheraal: From Liane Merciel's, Hellknight! Mino already existed when I started reading this novel but a lot of Jheraal's characterization and Hellknights in general refined Mino more and more. Mino was an HK investigator only because this novel showed me that was a thing they could be, and same for the concept of Hellknight Foundlings! A lot of Jheraal's struggles being accepted and respected as a tiefling also play into Mino's own struggles as a ganzi.
Satine Kryze (-> Bo-Katan Kryze): Mino is both the Kryzes in a sense, starting off as idealist Satine that firmly and so stubbornly believes in doing things in the way she deems is right, no matter how much people fight and push against that and how difficult it is. She's clever and exceptionally diplomatic, ready to risk her own life and body to do what she thinks is right and bound by her duty to the people. Then, of course, Satine... I see a lot of what happened to Satine as Mino's own fate at the hands of House Thrune, but rather than death she instead takes on a lot more aspects of Bo-Katan.
Brigitte: Brigitte is way too cute and cool a character to be left in the cesspit that is Overwatch. Much of Brigitte's visual design has inspired Mino's, and so has the bright and peppy jock personality.
Shepard: Jaded military veteran leading a crew of people she cares so intensely about, becoming a special type of operative both bound by and outside of the law, having to deal with the mire of bureaucracy and resorting to a gun (hammer) when things must be done? Willing to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to get the mission done and save everyone? Lots of Shep in Mino.
Koby: I'm surprised I only found one anime inspiration! But Koby is my baby boy and as a long term One Piece fan, his story of wanting to be a Marine (which from the onset in OP the audience is pointed to see as 'the antagonists') and actually do real good and be a champion for justice in the people even in spite of seeing nothing but corruption from them thus far speaks a lot of how I view fantasy law enforcement and characters like that. Mino wanting to be a Hellknight and seeing it as her calling mirrors a lot of Koby's own ideals with the Marines, and both spend their years in each respective organizing emerging powerful, confident, successful in their dreams, and with a huge glow-up (lol).

There is a theme here - the whole cast will be dressed up in 1920's attire. Think Magical Mistakes does Peaky Blinders. Of course Vollrath would be Tommy. Balor states that Mahala is NOT Grace (because not dead) or Lizzie (for reasons)...she's some nebulous 3rd female who Tommy doesn't fuck over. *snorts* Balor, being the older brother, is of course Arthur. Baldur grows out his beard to go as Alfie. Elmar does his best to pull a Luca.
The party would be hosted by the Coven. No one is going to piss Vollrath or Balor off because...reasons. Mahala would get to meet many of the others from the Coven that she had not already met, which would go very smoothly. The night would be a great success with everyone having a fun time in the 1920's theme.
For funsies, Balor and Elmar both decide once more to try and "steal" Tommy's girl. Now...this goes as expected...but at least this time most of the time they're laughing at the Blinders jokes that go along with it.
The only hitch is that afterwards Vollrath and Balor both get teased mercilessly regarding haircuts till they grow out. Definitely season 5...lawd...

God researching Overwatch lore is such a beautiful mess.
I try making a simple few notes for a future full timeline of events, and end up discovering a character.
So, random 4 AM impulse, I try jotting down all the events between Recall and Zero Hour, with how each of the heroes we see there gets Winston's message and what they do to respond.
Tracer gets the call instantly like we see in the same short, Genji gets the recall offscreen and goes off to help after he fights Hanzo in Dragons, Reinhardt is contemplating the call in Honor and Glory before visiting Balderich's grave convinces him (and Brigitte tags along), Mei gets the call after waking up and getting a functional signal in Rise and Shine, and Echo goes to help after being woken up by McCass in Reunion.
So that accounts for everyone in Zero Hour, right? Winston, Tracer, Genji, Reinhardt, Brigitte, Echo...
...wait. nope. Mercy.
So I checked Mercy's short story, Valkyrie, because that'd answer it, right?
Well, yes, but also I got distracted since I haven't read that story yet.
Short answer there is that it's vague, but after the events of the story, Angela gets convinced by Jack and Ana to not give up being Mercy. It's not a direct segue like the others, but all three are aware of Winston's recall one way or another, and while Jack and Ana are more focused on hunting down Reyes (who yes, does show up in the story and explain what those two old bastards are up to), Mercy decides to do. Not that. Which would by default be, as we now know, going to Paris to help out in Zero Hour.
But obviously my undiagnosed funny brain self wasn't content with that, because I noticed a name in a weird spot I didn't quite piece together at first.
Adawe. Adawe... Who's Adawe? Obviously not Akande or one of the other Doomfists, but it sounded familiar.
So I checked the wiki (I braved a Fandom Wiki for this, be grateful) and it turns out yes, it does sound familiar.
Adawe, as in the Adawe foundation, a name I recognize as how Efi got the grant money to make Orisa.
But OOOHHH THAT NAME MEANS SO MUCH MORE AND I NEVER KNEW IT, and I doubt many people do.
This lady made Overwatch. And Numbani.
I. I. wh. how am I just now hearing about this.
Paraphrasing the wiki article, Adawe was the Under-Secretary-General for the United Nations during Omnicrisis, and was one of the main people responsible for making Overwatch happen.
And while Overwatch was helping to mend human-omnic relations after the Crisis, she also made her own effort to that cause by founding Numbani, the city where they live in harmony more than anywhere else.
but that's not the craziest part.
This character has no visual appearance as of now, and I assume most people haven't even heard of her.
but you know one thing I can guarantee everyone reading this has heard?
Her voice.
Recordings of her voice were sampled by Efi for Orisa's voice.
I. Dghafoak. aifnoa. OKAY THEN GOOD TO KNOW???
Anyways it's 5 AM now and I regret nothing. Not right now at least. Possibly in the morning. Probably not.
(Edit, yes still 5 AM:) Canonically, the only hero who's met Orisa at this point is Lucio, so like... none of the people who knew Adawe have had the chance to recognize her voice in Orisa yet. So that'll be interesting... if they address it at all, anyways.

MIEKO - A guiding, golden light
Just because you cannot see your own heart doesn’t mean that others can’t. Your heart is blinding, captivating, a fire so bright that others can’t bring themselves to look away. It illuminates the path they follow and cements you as a guiding star for their own wayward hearts. Every experience you’ve lived through has built your lighthouse heart up just a little higher. You are inspirational, a light that doesn’t go out
Mieko is very different from her brother Isao. She's more sociable, and warmer too. She has a radiant personality, speaks softly, but knows how to get along.
She accepted an arranged marriage, as is usual in corpo families, and found love there. They learnt to know each other and appreciate each other, becoming friends and then lovers, and she knew how to be there for her special forces warrior.
Losing him was heartbreaking.
But Mieko has a strength within her, a fire of goodness, that allows her to move forward, and to take others with her. Her brother Isao in particular.
AURORE - An open door, a burning hearth
Your chest is wide open, and your heart is a home. Others are welcomed in readily and asked to stay. You are comfort and love, everything you were never given but so desperately want to provide for others. You have built this welcoming hearth with your own two hands and won’t see anyone else left out in the cold. Be careful to not burn yourself out trying to keep everyone else warm.
Like Oscar, Aurore is a radiant girl full of love. She has lived through major tragedies, such as the loss of her parents and then her elder sister, and has found comfort in Oscar and Brigitte, who is now her new mother.
She has developed great empathy, and wants to give back what she has been given. That's why she became a nurse at this medical centre in Pacifica, and why she considers herself a good witch, wanting to do good.
ROXANNE - A tangled ball of red strings
Who are you without the company of others? You aren’t sure, but you know that you aren’t fond of whoever it is. You are an actor, a pretty face and a pleasant song. Many idolize you, or love you, but you can never be sure of how sincere it is. Your heart is buried under the letters they leave you, sealed with a kiss. It can’t be untangled from the red strings they’ve attached to you. You deserve to find something, someone, true and faithful to hold your heart in place. You don’t have to be everything to everyone.
Roxanne has been in the spotlight for years, building up an image and a persona that people think they know. She needs these others, but she has often confused her persona with who she really is. After all, that was so long ago. Changing her Irish name from Aodh, transformed into Anne because Irish names are unpronounceable according to some, she became Roxanne on television. She has layers that aren't really her, with fake names !
Fortunately, she's found someone to be herself with, to go back to being who she's always been, to have a cocoon of well-being ♥
You don't know her yet, but I've got a redheaded milf
ENZO - Molten lava and charred flesh
Your heart burned so fiercely that it burnt itself out, leaving horrible scars in its wake; scars inside your chest and on the hands of those who touched you, the hearts of anyone who got close enough to connect to yours. The person you are now is no longer recognizable, burnt up by your own anger and passion and love. The injuries can never be fully erased, but they can be soothed with time and trust and forgiveness.
Enzo got burned, literally. His accident left scars on his hands, his back, his chest, even his hair. And the fire also burned his heart.
He was a very warm, open and fun boy, with no thought for the consequences of life, and of his actions. He loved, strongly, without filters, without barriers. And he went from heart to heart with pleasure for life.
And his accident changed him radically.
He closed himself off, hid the scars he hated, feeding rumors about what he was hiding. It was a vicious circle, Enzo refusing to show himself, to open up. He's always a fun, warm-hearted boy, but he refuses to be touched. He never takes off his gloves, never goes shirtless, "gloves always stay on" has become a gimmick. His conquests are always for a moment, never for a night, never naked.
He'll need someone he can trust completely to open up again…🥺

“Still Here Breathing”: Preview and Hypothetical Soundtrack.
So I said in previous posts that I am planning a crossover fic between Jennifer’s Body, Ginger Snaps and The Craft.
It’s working title is Still Here Breathing.
The story is going to be set in the same world as one of my crossover WIP’s Love’s Sacrifices (Carmilla: The Series/Pitch Perfect) and Mission to Silas (Ginger Snaps/The Craft/Carmilla: The Series/D.E.B.S); the latter is going to be a direct prequel to this fic.
While I’m far from actually writing down Still Here Breathing, I decided to write a hypothetical soundtrack for the story. Just something I tried experimenting with. I’d also give some tidbits for the story, and while this risks spoiling Mission to Silas, these spoilers are a Foregone Conclusion anyways (it is a prequel after all)
Tidbits.
1. The only thing I can guarantee from Mission to Silas is the survival of Brigitte, Sarah, Nancy, Bonnie and Rochelle. While I can’t spoil what happens to either the D.E.B.S or Lucy Diamond, I wouldn’t expect any of them to show up and lend a hand in the sequel.
Though I can see it being helluva story Brigitte and the Coven girls tell their friends.
2. Still Here Breathing is set to start weeks, if not months following the end of Jennifer’s Body (probably early 2010). As such, Needy will start off as a Hero With Bad Publicity with a Fugitive Arc.
To add insult to injury, Low Shoulder (or at the very least, Nikolai Wolf) is gonna be resurrected as incubi due to Needy bungling their murder. Not only are he/they antagonists, he/they remain Villains With Good Publicity for much of the story.
The commentary of Nikolai Wolf/Low Shoulder being predatory celebrities preying on their fans is also taken up to eleven.
3. Both Jennifer and Ginger are gonna alive in this story; how I am currently keeping under wraps.
I’m also planning on making Jennifer x Ginger a thing. One of the reasons I’m writing this story is to hook them up. Thinking of giving them an Enemies/Rivals to Lovers angle; think the lovechild of Jori (with Ginger as Jade) and Lumity (with Jennifer as Amity) and that should paint enough of a picture.
4. Megan Fox claimed she played Jennifer as a deeply closeted lesbian, so that's how I'd write her, with her dates/flings with boy being performative comphet. Expect much of Jennifer being a Gay Disaster, not being as confident with her sexuality as she’s letting on.
If you are remotely familiar with season one era Amity Blight, you will have a good idea of what Jennifer brings to the table.
5. All the expectant angst.
Especially with both Jennifer and Needy (while Jennifer x Ginger is a thing, Needifer is also one of the primary pairings of the story).
There’s also the expectant angst with the Fitzgerald sisters, but in a strictly sisterly subtext. There are some Ginger Snaps fans who try to put a incestous WLW spin on Ginger and Brigitte...I’m not one of those fans.
All these years being into Ginger Snaps (over a decade now) the only character is seriously shipped Brigitte with was Sam; as of Mission to Silas, I have also crossover paired her with Sarah and Nancy; along with AgentDiamond they’re the OT3 of the prequel
6. Speaking of Sarah and Nancy, this is another forgone conclusion “spoiler” from Mission to Silas - it’s in the stories fucking tags - those two are gonna be raising a kid. Along with Aunts Bonnie and Rochelle.
The kid in question is an alt version of Lily Schechner from The Craft: Legacy, with several alternations to her character; mainly that rather than be conceived by Nancy being r*ped, as per Zoe Lister Jones’ statement, she would be the magically conceived biological daughter to Sarah and Nancy.
Seeing as she’s six at the time of the fic, other changes are to be expected, this being a different stage of Lily’s life. One thing I see her being so far, is a younger fan of Low Shoulder (to the absolute chagrin of her mothers and aunts).
Also, while Brigitte does hook up with Sarah and Nancy in Mission to Silas, I’m not sure they’d still be a thing at the time of Still Here Breathing. That said, I do see them still being close enough that Lily greets Brigitte as “Aunty B”, and Brigitte greets her as “Little Bean”.

Ginger Headcanons! (Movie: Ginger Snaps Part 1)
TW: Has mention of attacks, small yandere/obsession, and mention of mating
Post Werewolf/Hellhound:
•Ginger probably only interacts with you at school during PE or Lunch if she feels like it
•Even if ya’ll confessed to each other y’all rarely hang out after school, due to her being ‘busy’ with projects and being with Brigitte
•When the Monster attacks start happening and if your scared she’ll tell you to suck it up or get over it (when she doesn’t really believe it 💀)
•You and her smoke with each-other sometimes without saying a word to one another during y’all’s free time
•If you are interested in her projects or have the same projects that are around the stuff she does then she might help you or let you join
•Ginger doesn’t really want you near Brigitte due to her protectiveness towards her, she might let you say hi or wave but that’s about it
•Once Ginger and Bridgette go out to get stuff for the ‘prank’ of Trina’s dog she might let you tag along if you have the guts to
•When Ginger gets attacked by the Hellhound and dragged into the woods your most likely the first to go after her due to Brigitte’s shy nature
After Werewolf/Hellhound attack:
•Ginger will feel a massive nerve to be more protective towards you and be more near you
•Ginger tries not to let you see the fact that she’s turning and/or her scratch from the attack
•Ginger tries to get more chances to see you at school and is more affectionate
•Brigitte tried to keep you away from her and if you re-fuse then Ginger might see that as a massive win for herself
•Ginger is way more touchy towards you when she starts being more open in school towards people (boys included so I hope you don’t get jealous easily)
•When you discover/find out she’s transforming/slowly changing you try to stay away from her a more and she will probably get mad at that fact
•If you decide to go against Ginger with Brigitte and try to get rid of the effects she will feel partly betrayed and have a small side of the need to keep you with her at all times (including her house which is highly surprising)
•If you find out she mated with someone else then you most likely couldn’t give a shit due to that being her goal/nature or feel in her situation
•When you, Brigitte and Sam try to get Ginger to take the antidote for her condition she will most likely go towards you first if you try to swoon her by acting sweet/needy
•If Ginger ends up infection you/scratching you when she fully transforms she will most likely not feel bad and feel successful if she is partly still in control
•Overall y’all’s relationship is very questionable and ‘different’ 🫶

The more of these you answer the more I'll send. First time meeting this supersoldier, how does it go with S76, Reinhardt, and our favorite horrid gremlin men from Australia?
Okay at this rate we gotta give this poor homie a name! I'm starting to really get attached to this OC. Their title can obviously stay "The Supersoldier" (all in one word) because I've now tagged the other asks you've submitted with that, but we should really pick out a name! I'll let you decide how that happens. Now onto the reacts!
Soldier 76:
Jack was one of the ones in the field team that helped retrieve the Supersoldier in the middle of a skirmish with Talon.
His first impression of them was their sheer size- Moira had built off the old SEP program and done her own "improvements" along the way. Jack is strong, they are stronger. Jack is fast, they are faster. The way they move is just uncanny.
(Back in his youth, he had been worried about being a freak of nature after going through the program. Now, all these years later, he knows better. After seeing the Supersoldier, he really knows better.)
But, more than anything, he understands what they're going through. Seeing them move through the Talon firefight, he understands the doctrine they've been trained in their whole life. The weapon isn't just the gun they hold, it's their own body.
So when the team finally break free of the Talon troops with the Supersoldier in tow, and they make it back to the jet, Jack takes the seat next to them without hesitation.
There's a strange sort of kindred shared without the two ever saying a word to each other. Jack isn't scared of them, despite the incredible violence he just saw they were capable of. Because he's capable of it, too (to a lesser degree).
And ever since, he's been gentle to them, at least as gentle as he can be, being their superior officer and while dealing with his own issues about showing kindness and vulnerability.
He doesn't know if he wants to be their role model. He doesn't know if he can. He keeps interactions with them brief.
Reinhardt
Rein was not a part of the team that picked the Supersoldier up from Talon.
But shortly after, he sought them out and introduced himself. A proper introduction, outlining who he used to be and who he was now. He's used to being treated as a war hero, so it throws him for a loop when the Supersoldier asks "what's a Crusader and why should I care?"
He gets about halfway through explaining when they tell him to shut up and leave.
He does so dutifully and he doesn't say a word about it to anyone else, even though he's confused and a little hurt.
(The Supersoldier, who was already stressed out having to learn all these new names and faces, and having just been thrown into a completely new life where they only just acknowledged that feeling human attachment was okay, wasn't really in the right headspace to recieve Reinhardt's warm welcome.)
But then, one day, after the grace period has ended, the Supersoldier walks into the packed mess hall and almost panics. They don't know who to sit next to. They don't know any of these people. Morrison, Ana, and Zenyatta aren't here, and Baptiste's table is packed with all sorts of loud and colorful individuals they don't want to acquaint with. The loud peppy girl and the gorilla offer them a seat but they don't want to take it. She's too loud. The blue accelerator she wears flashes too much. They can't deal with that right now.
So instead, they make a beeline to the relatively empty table that Rein, Torb, and Brigitte are sitting at. The Supersoldier has already sat down next to Rein before they realize their feet have brought them here.
The first word out of their mouth to him is "sorry".
Reinhardt smiles. He's already forgiven them. He's just so happy they finally came around.
And that's the start of their friendship(?)
Junkrat
The first place the Supersoldier meets Junkrat is on the test range. It's Junkrat's favorite spot in base, which is because (go figure) it's the only place where bombs are allowed.
The Supersoldier wasn't even aware of his existence until about halfway through their practice session, Junkrat popped out of a corner and blew up the remaining target with a cackle of glee.
The explosion causes them to panic.
So now they're hyperventilating in a (different) corner. He joins them in the corner and tries to calm them down through various methods.
"Various methods" being patting their shoulder and offering them boba. They shrink away from both.
After a few good minutes, he finally remembers the breathing techniques Roadhog taught him ("Roadie says these breathing techniques will calm me down and keep me from doing stupid things! They don't work for that but they sure do help scared people!")
He stays with them until they stop panicking because even though he'd never admit he was responsible for it (compulsive liar!), he still feels pretty bad about it.
The next thing he does is stop slouching to compare their heights. He's impressed they're taller than him. They don't know how to respond to this.
The fun times are cut short when Junkrat hears someone else step out onto the practice range. He vanishes into whatever gremlin cave he carved out for himself and the Supersoldier is left completely baffled.
They're convinced that A. he's a cryptid and B. they hallucinated the whole encounter due to the panic attack.
They finally describe the encounter to Zenyatta one day and he helps them put two and two together.

Woman in the Moon (1929, Germany)
By the end of the 1920s, humanity could envision a world where spaceflight might be possible. Several decades before that, the science fiction books of Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, and others thrilled viewers with promise of adventure and the unknown. Also capturing that interest in space would be Georges Méliès’ film, A Trip to the Moon (1902, France) – even if you have never heard of this film, you may be familiar with its most iconic frame. A Trip to the Moon is one of the first science fiction films ever made and, for the 1900s decade, among the most innovative of its time. Though other filmmakers around the world dabbled in science fiction, the genre never truly took off until mid-century.
One of the few filmmakers bringing a sense of spectacle to sci-fi silent films was German director Fritz Lang, best known today for Metropolis (1927) and M (1931). Because of its release in between Metropolis and M, Woman in the Moon tends to be underseen and undermentioned. But, like Metropolis and A Trip to the Moon, it is a silent film exemplar of science fiction. It is a remarkable piece of entertainment in its second half, even as it wastes too much of its runtime on a tiresome subplots that involve gangsters and romance. When Lang brings his showmanship during the crew’s trip to the Moon, the results are unlike any other filmmaker working in cinema at that time.
Businessman Helius (Willy Fritsch) meets with his friend, Professor Mannfeldt (Klaus Pohl), to discuss developments over Helius’ plans to journey to the Moon. The mission was inspired by the Professor’s hypothesis that the Moon, “is rich in gold” – something that has attracted the mockery of his fellow academics. In the shadows, an unidentified gang sends a man calling himself “Walter Turner” (Fritz Rasp) to spy on Mannfeldt and Helius. More trouble comes to Helius when he learns his assistants Windegger (Gustav von Wangenheim) and Friede (Gerda Maurus) announce their engagement. Helius, who has never confessed his love for Friede, finds himself in an awkward romantic bind in the events leading up to launch. On launch day, Helius, his assistants, and Professor Manfeldt board the Friede. But their crew complement includes two others: Walter Turner (who threatens his way onboard) and a stowaway child, Gustav (Gustl Gstettenbaur).
Thea von Harbou, Lang’s wife from 1922-1933, wrote the screenplay, adapting her book The Rocket to the Moon. Just a quick glance through her filmography recalls a number of great Lang-von Harbou collaborations: Dr. Mabuse the Gambler (1922), the Die Nibelungen saga (1924), and Metropolis. She truly is one of the great screenwriters of early cinema, but Woman in the Moon is an underwhelming display of her talents. Von Harbou mires with its Earth-bound scenes, and Woman in the Moon reaps no benefits from its spy subplot. There is a straight science-fiction story buried somewhere in this overlong 169-minute film, but von Harbou overstuffs her screenplay with the potential sabotage of the rocket to the Moon. Never does the viewer feel that Lang’s astronauts are in danger of being blasted to smithereens in outer space or that “Walter Turner” will ever succeed in whatever murderous plots he has hatched. Isolated from whatever themes Woman in the Moon wishes to present, the love triangle that slowly overtakes the rest of the film always feels vestigial to this overcooked story. Compare this overwrought, yet underwritten romantic drama to Metropolis, where the relationship between Gustav Fröhlich’s Freder and Brigitte Helm’s Maria outlines perfectly the tension of their society’s industrial hierarchies and the geography that separates the classes.
Woman in the Moon truly defies gravity only after its launch and touchdown on the lunar surface. The cinematography team led by Curt Courant (1934’s The Man Who Knew Too Much, 1938’s La Bête Humaine) capture the terror of early spaceflight better than some of the more expensive American sci-fi productions would in the 1950s and ‘60s. The speculative lunar sets – which look more like Méliès’ vision for A Trip to the Moon than anything recognizable from the Moon – tower over the movie’s intrepid astronauts as they explore this lifeless (unlike Méliès’ vision) celestial body.
The screenplay, camerawork, production design, and special effects seen in The Woman in the Moon come from the most widely accepted scientific theories of the late 1920s concerning astrophysics and the nature of the Moon. Where some aspects might feel dated (that includes the appearance and breathable atmosphere of the lunar surface and the submersion of the rocket into water before launch), others are prescient. The explanation of how the rocket’s flightpath is so prophetic that it seems as if Thea von Harbou and Fritz Lang sat in on an Apollo mission briefing by NASA. Woman in the Moon also contains the first countdown to launch seen in a sci-fi film (yes, the launch countdown is an invention of Woman in the Moon), as well as a multistage rocket that jettisons parts of the rocket as it exits Earth’s atmosphere. Prior to launch, the rocket’s assembly in a separate structure before transportation out to the launchpad – where it will blast off to space. For a film released in an era that did not make much use of seat belts and Velcro, the utter violence and human disorientation of a rocket launch requires the astronauts to strap themselves into their bunks and hold onto surface restraints.
The frantic editing and startling cinematography of these scenes, coupled with the film’s undercurrent of distrust and ulterior motives, are a Lang staple during the most technically accomplished scenes of his filmography. It is there in the worker montages of Metropolis, the elaborate assassination scene of Dr. Mabuse the Gambler, and the horrific battle sequence of Die Nibelungen: Kriemhild’s Revenge. Those Lang hallmarks find their way late in Woman in the Moon, well past the point where they might have been effective in alleviating the film of its structural issues. Though Woman in the Moon might not be as influential as any of those aforementioned movies, Lang’s propulsive sense of action is apparent in the film’s second half. Like a silent era John Frankenheimer, Lang is in full control of the film’s tension – knowing when and when not to apply these techniques to heighten the viewer’s adrenaline.
Not nearly as a widely-discussed for Woman in the Moon is its final moments. The film’s concluding dilemma is startling. It precipitates into a situational solution that does not grant a narrative resolution. Are Lang and von Harbou attempting to comment on the lengths of selfishness, of the tension intrinsic between science and human avarice that can endanger others? Or is it more cynical of scientific discovery and technological progression than it might appear? Woman in the Moon wastes too much time on its romantic triangle before even approaching questions as nuanced as these.
However one interprets this, Woman in the Moon – more popular with general audiences than film critics and those noting that Universum Film AG (UFA) executive Alfred Hugenberg was beginning to align himself with the Nazi Party – arrived in German theaters at a time of political upheaval. Among the politically inclined, Woman in the Moon proved divisive: leftists derided its alleged Nazi subtext and the Nazis approved of this depiction of a technologically advanced, forward-thinking Germany. Shortly following Hitler’s ascendancy to German Chancellor in 1933, the Nazis banned A Woman in the Moon and seized the film’s rocket models due to how accurate its depiction of rocketry was. At this time, the Nazis, with a team led by Wernher von Braun, were deep into researching the V-2 rocket – the world’s first long-range guided ballistic missile.
Detractors of Woman in the Moon dismissed Lang and the film as curios of Germany’s cinematic past. With synchronized sound films all the rage since 1927, Woman in the Moon proved to be Lang’s final silent film. Today, the movie is Lang’s final epic, before he transitioned into a career leaning heavily on film noir. The scenes of greatest interest to silent film and sci-fi fans arrives deep in the film, after too many stultifying conversations and lovelorn looks from the main characters. In its greatest spurts, Woman in the Moon’s scientific speculation heralds a future beset by self-interest, yet heaven-bound.

Overwatch Horror Movies
Welcome to October -1st, where I remember to make a post about how each Overwatch character reacts to Horror Movies because it’s my passion.
If I call you out, tag yourself. That’s your government assigned kin.
Ana - Not her favorite Halloween activity, but she’ll watch them if the person she’s watching with is a screamer. She finds their fear more entertaining than the movie.
Ashe - Easily startled by jumpscares. A real Scream Queen. Her instinctual reaction is fists up. She’s knocked a few heads after getting startled.
Baptiste - Enjoys the cheesy, over the top with cliche horror movies. He’ll laugh though really anything but torture porn gorey garbage.
Bastion - Is baby, but doesn’t really have a sensor to understand the fear that he should be feeling. Gets PTSD flashbacks at too much gore and gunshot sounds.
Brigitte - Likes suspenseful movies that have a spooky atmosphere and a real story. She will punch a hole though the screen if she gets jumpscared.
D.Va - Laughs and says it’s just a movie and it’s such a dumb concept, but will become extra paranoid after Serial Killer/Slasher movies. She checks locks three times over, leaves all the lights on at night, and refuses to go anywhere after dark for about a week. However, horror games with the same premise have no effect on her.
Doomfist - Hates horror movies. Hates the choices protagonists in Horror movies make. Makes Talon agents write an essay on what to do if a serial killer is after you after seeing the dumb choices in Horror movies.
Echo - Don’t show her a movie with jumpscares! She will attempt to pull off scares of her own! While at first they’re jumping out from around corners, she’ll get better the more she does it. Brigitte will end up punching her.
Genji - Desensitized to gore and horror in general. Growing up around Spirit Dragons and then being trained by Spiritual Monks kind of ruin the whole scary ghosts thing for you.
Hanzo - Same as Genji on being desensitized to it all, but if a dog dies he will refuse to watch the rest of the movie.
Junkrat - Enjoys the gorey shit. The more horrid the better, he’ll probably laugh when someone gets their arm tore off. Easily freaked out by Zombie movies, though.
Lucio - Is Baby 2.0. An absolute coward, will spend 80% of the movie with his face buried in a pillow. Will need someone to share a room with a few nights afterwards.
McCree - Always found Ashe’s reaction to horror very funny, so he’d watch them with her. Discovering Gabriel Reyes had the same reactions was the best thing to ever happen in Blackwatch. Demon possession movies freak him out.
Mei - Is Baby the Third. Easily started, screams VERY loud. Spends the entire movie with her ears covered and eyes shut tight. Might cry.
Mercy - Being scared makes her angry. Something about the startle of a horror movie just pisses her off! She’ll jump and scream a little, then go into a rant on the movie’s horrid quality.
Moira - Finds her fellow veiwer’s reactions more interesting than the movie itself. Enjoys making snacks that fit the movie’s theme, and look uncomfortably like real fingers and eyeballs.
Orisa - Like Bastion, doesn’t fully understand what’s being scared is? She doesn’t like to watch them though, because she does not enjoy violence, and is worried Efi will see them.
Pharah - Wasn’t allowed to watch any horror until she was 18, so she tried to make up for it all in one night, and immediately scarred herself. Violently refuses to watch anything scary ever again.
Reaper - He watches them for the aesthetic of it all, Halloween is his Holiday and he will partake in all Halloween related events, but he’s a coward. Ghost/Demon possession movies mess him up the worst.
Reinhardt - He’ll remind anyone who’s scared “It’s just a movie” and laugh. Get’s startled at a jumpscare, but nothing will actually stick with him. He’ll probably have something similar that happened to him to talk about after the movie though.
Roadhog - Doesn’t enjoy watching horror movies, especially gorey ones. Not because they scare him, but because he sees enough of that shit in his day to day life already.
Sigma - Does not react well to being scared. The existentialism of death and the eventual end horror movies promote can set him off on a tangent, and eventually lead to a break down.
Soldier 76 - Loved Slasher movies, found them thrilling. Nothing ever sticks with him after a movie, he’s very rational. He doesn’t believe in ghosts in the slightest.
Sombra - She doesn’t find any horror really all that great, it’s all very predictable. She might spend the entire movie nitpicking how boring it is.
Symmetra - Says she believes horror to be a waste of time. In reality as a kid she saw a few ending scenes of a really gorey horror movie that’s stuck with her ever sense.
Torbjorn - He’s seen enough real horrors, movies don’t effect him that much anymore. He never really pays attention to what’s on the TV anyway.
Tracer - Very, VERY easily startled. She blinks and recalls almost every jumpscare, and keeps her face covered during most scenes. Despite being a massive coward, Lena really enjoys scaring other people.
Windowmaker - As expected, not easily frightened. She finds a lot of horror to be exceedingly boring, and will probably fall asleep during the movie.
Winston - Easily swayed by movies. He clings onto others or a pillow when he’s scared, and will be on high alert the entire movie. Once it’s over though he can rationalize pretty easily, and move on.
Wrecking Ball - Gets really hyped over monster movies! If he’s watching alone, he’ll act out the scenes as they’re happening, especially as the monster.
Zarya - Not a fan of horror, but if her friends are watching them, she’ll join in. She’s typically the calming prescience for cowards to cling to and hide behind.
Zenyatta - Not his first choice, but he’ll watch with friends. If he gets too scared he’ll offer to refill snacks and drinks to give himself a moment away from the screen. He uses his Orb of Harmony to calm anyone frightened after the movie is over.
