TUPPERBOX COMMANDS FOR DISCORD ROLEPLAYING

This has probably been written a million and one times but I find myself giving this information to people more times than not, so I have written a discord guide for Tupperbox Commands I think people who are new to tupper will find useful but also some that have been using it for a while might find something in there as well

tul!register 'Margot Purnell' Margot: text

So this is registering a character. Where it says Margot Purnell that’s naming your character. Margot:text is the brackets so everytime you want to use her you will need to go Margot: Hi to summon her.

tul!avatar "Margot Purnell" *insert image url here*

This is the next part where you need to add a image or avatar for your character. If you don’t by default it will come up as that blue discord one. You add your characters name and after that you can either attach a http link or you can upload a image from your phone.

This is where things get optional. It’s not really needed but if you notice people with fancy nicknames this is how I do it. I do it this way because if you ever need to change the icon you can type their name normally instead of going for the special font. But you just type the characters name and add anything fancy afterwards.

tul!auto 'Margot Purnell' #channelname

This is another optional option but it’s one of my favourites and saves me a lot of time. When you don’t want to type the bracket a million times like “Margot: Hi” because it can slow you down. You can automate the tupper to a channel so when you type it’s just like us typing now. 

Whatever you type in that channel specifically will come up as just the character. In order for this to work the channel names need to be different so if someone else is setting up the server the channel names will need to be different or the bot will get confused and not work.

 If you have two categories and in one it says #anna and david and then the other category is for text messages that also has #anna and david. It will only automate for one, the workaround for this is to flip the names

tul!remove “Margot Purnell”

If you ever want to remove a tupper you have created. This is a really simple command. It will remove it completely.

tul!rename ‘Margot Purple’ “Margot Purnell”

If you find you have made a mistake with your characters name and need to change it. Instead of removing it and starting again you can rename your tupper. You put the incorrect version first and then the correct version after.

tul!brackets “Margot Purnell” Margot:text

This is the same with brackets but this is pretty much useless if you automate your tupperbox but you can change the brackets. The brackets are what you use to summon your character. If you find automating is not for you and you find typing the name too long. You can always change it to something else instead of removing and starting again.

tul!list

This will summon all of your characters you have ever created and you can see their statistics.

tul!help

This will help if you ever get stuck this will summon the bots help menu and prompt you where you need to go.

Looking for Roleplay Partners

I'm Morri, or Mario. I'm twenty-three [23] and I've been roleplaying on and off for as long as I can remember. It's gone hand-in-hand with writing. It's around time I try to start to meet new roleplay partners and expand my network again. I was previously on Wattpad before it met its timely end for most of us. I moved to discord but it went quiet and I have only been in a small circle since. What to expect and know from me? I am honestly bad at replying steadily, but I am ALWAYS talking about the roleplays and making ideas and headcanons with my partner(s). I will reply with lengthy messages for a week, then struggle to form a basic response for a few weeks, then the cycle continues. But I am always dedicated to the roleplay(s) I am in, even if I struggle to show it. I'm also extremely literate. I will give you novella-length responses. I can't do small responses even if I tried, to ask any of my roleplay partners. But I don't expect anyone to match my length! I just ask to not be given one or two sentences to work off of. I LOVE knowing what is going on inside a character's head, or how they're feeling. It really helps to build everything up. I also do third-person only.

And I also ask for 18+ only, please. I feel awkward talking to minors unless it's to basically mentor them.

I also love tropes. Tropes are great. Especially if you break away and add twists to them, and get creative!

I play a vast array of characters. Almost all ocs. The only ones that aren't ocs are based on gods or divine beings. Either way, all my characters are queer, that explore different mental illnesses and backgrounds. I could not play a character that's cishet to save my life(no hate for anyone, it's just something I have struggled with). That's not to say I don't do m/w relationships, because I do. My characters are just not cishet (they're either bi/ace/pan/demi/enby/etc).

I also enjoy mature themes. But I ALWAYS discuss boundaries with my roleplay partners. The dos, the don'ts, the boundaries, the triggers, the likes. A lot of my focus is on fantasy, for the most part. Dark, romantic, historical, epic, horror, you name it. I overall enjoy just about anything? EXCEPT, I stay in my comfort zone. Which is one of the two universes I've world built into existence.

The first is entirely fantasy, with different realms/worlds to explore. A vast array of plotlines to explore. Crime/mafia, piracy, eldritch horrors, kingdom diplomacy, witches. You name it, I have it. Probably too much. I've been told it's overwhelming when I gain a new roleplaying partner.

The other is one I've just recently started to build. It's a bit like POJ and Everafter High met. A bit of fantasy, a bit of history, a bit of religion. Every character is either a demigod, a god, a divine being, a fae, a human, or another being...

It's going on late for me after being awake for seventeen hours, so I'm not doing a lot of justice for my stuff. But I really want more roleplaying partners and friends! I have cute little servers for both universes, building into small communities. And I also have adjacent servers for the novels I'm writing that deal with the plotlines and whatnot.

I don't know what else to say at the moment except please, please, please I am begging you to message me. We can talk here in dms and I'll send you, or you can send me your discord tag so we can move over there and start to plot! I should probably get to bed now. Thank you for reading this far.

RP Guide: How to Communicate with Partners

I thought I would write this guide as I know how sometimes it can be awkward to tell people that you aren't feeling a thread or maybe you just aren't interested in something any more - perhaps you have social anxiety, either way I wanted to provide some templates that you could use the next time you want to get out or run away but don't want to ghost.

I can't promise that these would work for everyone, and you're welcome to switch them up but it's just an idea if you are struggling on what to say or do in that situation. Situation: You aren't feeling the thread any more but still want to roleplay with the person

Situation: You want to drop the plot or thread completely but you don't want to hurt the person's feelings

Hi, I wanted to apologise in advance as I am not currently feeling this thread or plot any more. I wanted you to know that it's not you as a roleplayer but I am just not connecting to the roleplay thread/plot like I thought I would but wish you the best in your roleplaying adventures.

Treat anything on Discord as media that will be lost

Do not use Discord to host your files. Do not rely on Discord to preserve your text. DO NOT RELY ON DISCORD FOR ANY KIND OF PRESERVATION OR HOSTING!!

It CAN be lost, it WILL be lost! You must consider Discord as a part of the Core Internet, controlled by one company that hosts the servers.

I thought it was impressive at first that it replaced IRC, but now I am horrified. If the company behind Discord went under today, how many friends would you lose?

How many relationships? How much writing?

You may think this won't happen, but I remember when AIM went down and along with it, entire novels worth of interaction with my oldest friend.

Roleplay Is Not Dead Nor Doth It Sleep

There's a post going around about how text-based, freeform roleplay is dead, and I was typing up a huge response to this, with an accompanying guide on how to find roleplayer in 2024, when I realized it might have a bigger reach if I made it its own post. So here's that guide.

I hesitate to say that there isn't a problem with the new format of social media making roleplay more difficult to find, but in the desire to make that point, the OP of the original post has left people with the idea that there's no way for them to get into freeform text roleplay in 2024. Which just isn't true! Here, look at all the ways.

Forums

The link to RPG-Directory to find roleplaying forums is a good start. Once you've found a forum RPG, even if you don't join, there's usually an 'advertising' section on that forum where other forum RPGs post their ads - this may help you to find forums that don't advertise on RPG-D.

Another really good forum to find roleplay on is Barbermonger. Barbermonger is focused on connecting people for one-on-one roleplays.

This last one's going to be weird, but it turns out that there are still people seeking roleplay on the Gaia Online forums after all these years. I think this is delightfully retro and then crowd there seems a little older than average. No pre-existing knowledge of Gaia required.

Tumblr

You can also find forum roleplay groups (as well as tumblr and Discord groups) right here on Tumblr. Usually, the thing to do is to use the search function - search for "[genre] rp" or "[fandom] rp" and sort by "latest." (If you sort by Top, you are likely to find dead RPs.) For example, here's fantasy rp, historical rp, and marvel rp. You can also try jcink rp, as most roleplay forums are hosted on Jcink these days, or discord rp, depending on your favored platform.

There are also tumblr blogs specifically dedicated to advertising roleplays. I'm not super familiar with these nowadays, but just in the process of searching those tags above, I found these:

Reddit is a good place to find Discord roleplays. It's a little heavier on smut-only roleplays than other platforms mentioned here, but it's not impossible to find sexless, plot-based roleplay here either. Most ads are for one on one RP, but you can find groups mixed in here too. The big subreddits for text-based freeform RP seem to be:

The original post specifically mentions that 'all the old "omegle but for role play" type websites died out ages ago'. This is mostly true, but not quite! There's still Rolechat. It's a little janky, but what it needs more than anything is a bigger user base. Their Discord server is also a good place to find one on one discord roleplay. It is, of course, free, but if you want to support its development, they have a patreon.
