In 1983, geneticist Mary-Claire King (left) explains to Abuelas de la Plaza de Mayo [Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo] Nélida Gómez de Navajas (middle) and Estela de Carlotto (right) the technique that will be used to identify their grandchildren stolen during the last civic-military dictatorship of Argentina (1974/6-1983) and prove their kinship in court, el Índice de Abuelidad [the Grandparentage Index]. It's estimated that between 400 and 500 children were taken throughout this time.
Estela was able to hug her grandson, Ignacio Montoya Carlotto, nieto #114 [grandchild #114], in 2014.
Nélida died in 2012 and did not get to meet her grandchild. It was announced two days ago, 28 July 2023, that his identity has been restored. 11 years after she died, 40 years after this photo was taken, and 46 years after his birth to a illegally detained and still disappeared mother, Cristina Navajas, he's been found. His father and brothers are here for him. It is still a victory.
Welcome to the truth, nieto #133, y abrazo al cielo Nélida.
Venceremos.

Poverty levels skyrocketed to 57.4% of Argentina’s 46 million people in January, the highest rate in 20 years, according to a study by the Catholic University of Argentina. The findings quickly unleashed accusations between Argentina’s former Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and the government of President Javier Milei, who came to power announcing a series of shock measures aimed at tackling the country’s severe crisis. About 27 million people in Argentina are poor and 15% of those are mired in “destitution,” meaning they cannot adequately cover their food needs, according to the study released over the weekend. The UCA’s social debt observatory is considered an independent and prestigious research space whose reports on poverty cover a larger geographical area than those conducted by Argentina’s national statistics agency, INDEC. It also applies a methodology that addresses the problem with a more multidimensional approach and its findings are seldom questioned by politicians and economists. According to the center’s latest report, the increase in poverty levels in January was partly due to the devaluation of the Argentine peso applied by the Milei government shortly after taking office on Dec. 10. This resulted in an increase in the price of the country’s basic basket — which includes food, services and non-food goods — and the basic food basket. Working- or middle-class households that do not receive benefits through social programs experienced the greatest impact, the study concluded. Eduardo Donza, a researcher with the social debt observatory, told The Associated Press that although inflation could slow in the coming weeks, the incidence of rising prices will continue to impact Argentinians and poverty would hit at least 60% of the population around March.

theories on the images?
Yes, let's go!
Tumblr media
KIERARKTINA
Starting with the ship I don't care as much about so that I can get to the others, which happen to be my 3 favourite ships of all time, LOL.
At first I was really confused because I didn't notice Mark and thought that it was Kieran and Cristina and a horse. There was a brief moment where I thought Mark might have turned into a horse. I do not think this is the case, lol.
So the displayed items for them are:
Horse (I'm assuming a steed of the wind hunt)
A bow and arrow
Just two arrows
The Fae King's crown (perhaps just a character symbol of Kieran)
The three rings (that I am speculating are wedding rings!)
I think it's likely that Kieran and Mark will in some way briefly be drawn back to the Wild Hunt and take Cristina with them. They will, in my opinion, likely be married in some kind of Wild Hunter ceremony.
I don't think I can get more in-depth than that because I honestly do forget a lot of TDA and don't have a ton of opinions, but yeah! I will say I'm also really curious about why Cristina is silver while Mark and Kieran are both gold. Perhaps it marks her as a Shadowhunter rather than a Hunter? We shall see.
WESSA
I am PUMPED to see Will and Tessa again, they're my OGs, my little darlings. And LOOK THEY'RE GAZING INTO EACH OTHER'S EYES, 10/10 cannot wait for this.
The symbols surrounding them are:
The Eiffel Tower (not a surprise since Cassie said the story was set in Paris)
The Arc de Triomphe (once again, another symbol of Paris)
What appear to be cards or tickets to something
What looks like a magical snowglobe or crystal ball of some variety
A devil tail wrapped around a pitchfork.
The first two just tell me that the story is set in Paris. But I'm the most fascinated by the snowglobe because it gives off a sort of... ethereal vibe. Look at the symbol in the middle - it looks like a magical talisman, probably something psychic/fortune-telly. Maybe they get their fortunes read and the tickets are for a fortune teller.
This brings us to the devil pitchfork and tail.
We know that the story is set very shortly after Clockwork Princess, meaning that Tessa doesn't know the ins and outs of her demon heritage yet. It feels likely that in this story she'll discuss it with Will a bit...
OR. Or. And I like this one... Belial tries to possess Tessa while she is asleep and the Angel Ithuriel protects her. Belial talks about this having happened in the All Places Hell chapter of Chain of Gold. This would be really interesting because I've long thought I wished to see Tessa have some even indirect interaction with Belial. OH MAYBE WILL FIGHTS HIM OFF TOO YES.
Okay there that's it.
Now...
HERONDAISY
Babies, my babies. I love them so fucking much, they and Thomastair are by far the ones I'm most excited to see again. So let's unpack the Herondaisy corner THOROUGHLY.
First, I do appreciate the fact that Cordelia is still running (but, as @angeldaisies said, she is running side by side with James now and I am going to cry happy tears yet again.) Anyway, it also amuses me that she's running and James is like, reaching after her. She's going to do something brash and brave and impulsive and her and he's going to be adoring it every step of the way and I love that for them both.
So, symbols!
The chess piece (a self-explanatory symbol for their relationship that we all know and love)
The throne
Two pomegranate halves on either side of the heart
I can't think of what the throne is for, but it's very possible imo that it goes with the chess piece because - and I am willing to do a longer essay on this someday that isn't today - the final battle in ChoT is... a chess game. That ends with James, the king, on the Coronation Chair. And this throne in fact looks very much like the Cornonation Chair.
This brings me to something interesting, which is the idea of the symbols inside the hearts vs outside the hearts. I am only going to explore this for Herondaisy and Thomastair because that's what I'm doing.
In any event, James and Cordelia are the only couple to be inside the heart with no props. The other ships all have something with them - Cirenworth for Thomastair, the snowglobe for Wessa.
I am wondering if perhaps the things outside of the heart are things that the story is missing. Will and Tessa wanting to go sightseeing and getting stuck with dark dealings instead; Thomas and Alastair wanting to find Zachary who is missing (I'll get there) but instead feeling stuck at Cirenworth.
In this case, the Coronation Chair represents the past, as does the chess piece that Cordelia is running towards.
Now, I might be reading too much into that. But I'm musing and I like it.
I have 0 idea of what the Pomegranite may be - fertility? Feels too early. Katherine of Aragon? Long dead. Temptation to the underworld? ...Maybe.
In any case, I think and hope that this is going to be their honeymoon story. I want to see them in Istanbul SO BADLY and as angeldaisies pointed out the epilogue of ChoT sets that up nicely. The second wedding runes could be a flashback... maybe James is what's tempting Cordelia <333
THOMASTAIR
I am DYING with excitement for this one as well as Herondaisy's, if I don't get it ASAP I may wither and die in a blob of sadness. But I WILL get it and thus I will thrive. Herondaisy, Thomastair, Arianna, Wessa... the harvest is come.
Inside of Thomas and Alastair's heart, we have their figures running as well as a building that I'm fairly sure is Cirenworth.
Other symbols outside the heart are:
Zachary's pram (rolling downwards, away from the heart)
A car (driving upwards, away from the heart)
A baby shoe
A top hat
Assuming that the hat is Alastair's because he canonically wears hats. And remember in Chain of Gold what he did? He lost his hat.
Absolutely and 100% believe that this story will be about Thomas and Alastair losing Zachary and having to find him. Thought this before, but think it even more when analyzing the symbols.
Since it's a romcom, maybe it's like a heist romcom - they need to follow clues like the baby shoe and the pram rolling about to try to find him (watch him be nursing with Sona or something lmao). But yeah, and their car is gone maybe, so they don't know how to get around or look, and hijinks ensue.
I think this will be set while they're helping Sona move into Cirenworth, by the way, and when they move into Cornwall Gardens. Which I LOVE. HONEYMOON STAGE THOMASTAIR 10000/10.
AN END NOTE
Please don't get to attached to my theories or headcanons, and know that I am not too attached to them, either. I'm speculating for fun, and there is no way I am not going to love Thomastair or Herondaisy stories. Like, I'd read an entire book about either of those ships making breakfast cover-to-cover 100 times. This is just what I think based on symbols.

Antena 3 presented this Tuesday, October 10, in the first edition of the South Festival, Beguinas, a series inspired by the beguinages, communities of women who, since the 13th century, defended an alternative way of life independent of marriage and Church. The new fiction bet will be available sooner for Atresplayer premium users.
Beguinas, which has ten 50-minute episodes, is produced by Atresmedia TV in collaboration with Buendía Estudios. The Beguines dedicated themselves to contemplation, but also to action, through crafts, teaching, or caring for the sick, which provided benefits to society while allowing them to be. This new series takes as reference the history of these women, which has remained hidden throughout the centuries.
The actors Amaia Aberasturi and Yon González star in the fiction. They play, respectively, Lucía de Avellaneda and Telmo Medina, two young people who will overcome the social impositions of the time and risk everything for love in a context that is not conducive to them. Beatriz Segura, Melani Olivares, Jaime Olías, Ella Kweku, Lucía Caraballo, Javier Beltrán, Meritxell Calvo, Silma López, Laura Galán, Elisabeth Gelabert, Ignacio Montes, Antonio Durán 'Morris', Jonás Berami, Jorge Kent and Cristina Plazas, among others , complete the cast of the series.
Beguinas is a production of Atresmedia TV in collaboration with Buendía Estudios. Montse García, Sonia Martínez and Amparo Miralles are the executive producers of this fiction, which will be directed by Rómulo Aguillaume and Claudia Pinto. The script will be written by Irene Rodríguez, Esther Morales and Silvia Arribas.
Marta de Miguel signs the Production direction, Iván Caso and Álex García the Photography direction and Jorge de Soto the Art direction. Bubi Escobar will be in charge of Wardrobe, while Makeup and Hairstyling will be directed respectively by Mariló Serrano and Fermín Galán. Juan León is the Casting Director.
Synopsis
Segovia, 1559. Lucía de Avellaneda celebrates her engagement party with the Marquis of Peñarrosa, a nobleman chosen by her brother. This marriage promises to reinforce the financial and social status of the family, but, in the middle of the celebration, the fiancée receives an unexpected letter from a woman who claims to be her mother and who claims her on her deathbed.
Lucía shows up at the beguinage, where her mother has summoned her. In this place she lives with other women independently and outside the Church. The young woman opens up to a new world that will make her question everything she has known until now. And, furthermore, he will know love through a pure and uncontrollable, but forbidden, passion. He will risk everything for Telmo, a Jewish man who must hide his beliefs and his past.
Main cast and characters
Lucía de Avellaneda (Amaia Aberasturi) Intelligent, curious and combative. Educated and innocent, until her mother's call disrupts her life. In the beguinage she discovers an environment of sorority and critical thinking that revolutionizes her idea of the world and breaks down the walls that her status as a Christian noble woman has imposed on her. When she meets Telmo she feels for the first time an attraction that she has never experienced, but his commitment and loyalty will stop her impulses, determined to fight for what really matters to her.
Telmo Medina (Yon González): Telmo is an attractive, lucid and mysterious young man who hides his Jewish origins. He works in a bakery and supplies the beguinage with what it needs from outside. He doesn't want problems, but he doesn't avoid them either. Loyal, sincere and honest, he cannot help but risk everything for a Christian noble woman.
Marie Anne (Beatriz Segura) Beguine and the successor of The Great Lady, she is wise, strong and enigmatic. Its mission is to protect the beguinage from certain ecclesiastical authorities who fear its independence. Guiding Lucía through the truth, she will help her connect with her mother's spirit and live in the beguinage with other women who, like her, long for a freedom that they cannot find outside. In her past, she loved intensely and had to overcome a traumatic breakup, but that passion is unleashed again, although this time she does not want to repress herself despite the danger of remaining in love with a clandestine and sinful love.
Sibila García (Melani Olivares): A distrustful, surviving and sensitive woman, who grew up in misery and prostitution. Pregnant, she decided to escape and found her place in the beguinage. Her biggest concern is her daughter and, even though she reproaches her for it, she will do everything possible to try to protect her. The succession of Lucrecia is disputed and she competes with Marie Anne for the position of Great Lady.
Guiomar Ruy (Ella Kweku): Nigua, an Antillean slave, was sold to a doctor from Seville who gave her her new name and educated her when he noticed the maid's innate curiosity. She learned the trade of midwife from her mother and cultivated her interest in the human body and botany. She obtained his letter of freedom and decided to move to the beguinage of Valladolid where he can develop his concerns and care for the sick. She has judgment, instinct and knowledge. She gets upset with ignorance, prejudice and evil. Shee feels a deep complicity with Gonzalo, the clergyman, a harmony that sooner or later, she will have to give a name to.
Beatriz García (Lucía Caraballo): Daughter of Sibila and one of the youngest of the beguinage. Innocent, happy and lively. Her sexuality is awakening and she enjoys her body with curiosity and without fear until life outside the walls pushes her to hide her most intimate impulses. Her freedom of thought and work contrasts with that of Lucía. She has a relationship with her mother that has ups and downs, but the love they have for each other is above all. Each has a lot to learn from the other.
Juana Aranda (Silma López): Daughter of Sancho, the owner of the workshop, and sister of Lebrín. She enjoys an independence that was uncommon at that time. She has chosen to enter the beguinage to avoid a bad marriage or ending up dependent on his brother. Intelligent, prudent and thorough. She is in love with Telmo, but wants to be reciprocated. He has such a noble heart that his love does not prevent him from empathizing with Lucía and helping Telmo when things go wrong.
Lebrín Aranda (Jonás Berami): Close friend of Telmo, son of Sancho, the owner of the bakery and the only brother of Juana, the beguine. Rogue, generous and lively, he knows how to live avoiding laws, rules and sins. He enjoys carnal pleasures and lets himself be carried away by Jimena's lust until he discovers her danger and her evil ways. He will use his best resources to try to save the Beguines from the Inquisition.
Rodrigo de Guzmán, Marquis of Peñarrosa (Javier Beltrán): He is Lucía's fiancé. Castilian nobleman, of ancient ancestry and fortune. He is very well connected and has negotiated with his future brother-in-law to settle his debts and open the doors to him in Court in exchange for this marriage. He loves Lucía, she seems to him the right woman to fulfill her role as marchioness. He is dutiful, splendid and traditional, but he does not hesitate to bring out his most sinister side when his commitment is threatened.
Munio de Avellaneda, Count of Vellaví (Jaime Olías): Lucía's brother and heir to the County, but also to the debts left by his father. He needs to recover privileges and fortune, and his sister's marriage is the perfect deal. Arrogant, irascible and proud. He is willing to do anything to save his lineage and keep up appearances.
Jimena Suárez de Córdoba (Meritxell Calvo): Munio's wife. Intelligent, frivolous and capricious. He hoped to live up to his condition, but the Avellanedas' fortune is in debt and the only thing that can solve it is his sister-in-law's wedding. She will do everything possible to help her husband achieve it. She likes to seduce, get the most out of life and cleverly circumvent the rigid rules that her lineage demands. She won't hesitate to play with fire when she meets Lebrín, a hummingbird who, like her, doesn't want to miss out on the pleasures that life offers.
Catalina (Laura Galán): Lucía's faithful maid. Affectionate, smiling, devout and superstitious, she is torn between loyalty to Lucía and fear of Munio. Lucía, her mistress, and the beguines, who will pay dearly for her ignorance. She will do everything possible to correct her mistakes and ease her conscience.
Lucrecia de Avellaneda (Elisabeth Gelabert): The Great Lady of the Beguinage. Daughter of its founder, Leonor Labrit and heir to her legacy for which she had to sacrifice her children, distancing them from her side. Married to Pedro de Avellaneda, who called her crazy, she took refuge in the beguinage where she served as Great Lady. Cultured and mystical, her life and death are surrounded by mystery.
Gabriela Grijalvo (Cristina Plazas): Widow of a renowned printer and mother of Gonzalo. Cultured and respected lady from Valladolid renounced her true love for fear of facing her son's rejection.
Gonzalo de Grijalvo (Ignacio Montes): Clergyman related to the beguinate. Intelligent, attractive and empathetic. She admires the Beguines for their devotion and devotion to those in need, but above all Guiomar, with whom he has great complicity.
Father Lasarte (Antonio Durán 'Morris'): A priest with pretensions, whose greatest ambition is to end the privileges of the beguinages and become part of the Court of the Inquisition. Cunning and scheming, he uses fear and ignorance to manipulate the people and get them to demonize these women, inventing falsehoods about them. His main objective is Marie Anne, the Great Lady, whom he cannot defeat.
Commissioner Utrera (Jorge Kent) The executing arm of the Inquisition in Valladolid. Pursue crimes that threaten the power of the Church. He has the beguines in his sights, but knows the risks of attacking them because they enjoy important social support. Shrewd, arrogant and libidinous, he exercises his power with the arrogance that his position gives him.

THE AFRONAUTS (1964) Cristina de Middel

ALMOST EATEN BY PIRANHAS IN THE AMAZON RIVER
DAY 1
Today you build your raft. You choose the straightest, biggest logs. After that you pay another team to help you because what do you know about building a raft? You grab the waterproof paint you bought to put on the open parts of your wood, and slather the whole thing up. Then you try to secure your plastic bucket that will hold snacks, water, music, onto the raft. Someone tries to hammer it in and cracks big hole in the bottom of the bucket. Oh well.  At least you have made friends with this team now - Los Kushuris de Kate. They are locals who have competed in this race for 11 years and won every time!
After the hard work of building your raft, you eat your dinner and pitch your tents on some sand dunes on the river.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day 2
You pretty much learned how to row today. The best angles for maximum water pushing.. there isn’t too much to it. `You row all day starting at 9 am.   As a team, you paddle around one corner, then another. Each curve takes between 1-3 hours to turn. You check the current - it should be on the outside of the curve, but time and time again we find no help. You make team decisions - constantly readjusting our aim, and use physics and eyesite to agree on the best moves. You move your raft to the center of the river, but the water is just as dead here.
In the afternoon, you find a little bit of current and have so much fun rowing and riding the current through some of the old branches sticking out of the water.  Camaron Jacqui and Camaron Cristina get pretty good at steering - even with Camaron Jonah’s weight unbalancing the raft (a point of contention - every night you  re-engineer the raft to better balance your different weights -> nothing helps). A fish flops out of the water, surprising everybody, right onto the raft. It jumps around until Camaron Jonah wacks it with his paddle, and then the team yells at him for hurting it. But then the current dumps you way too close to a sand bar, and the media boat with the cameraman has to come and save you. But they don’t just tow you 20 feet, they tow you to the middle of the river, then all the way across the river, they even drop you right next to another team! Rowing again,  you quickly over take them, which is quite awkward. Actually, it was just like in Mario Cart when you fall off of the course and the little cloud guys put you back on course.
One of the other teams has two British guys who got too much sun exposure. They dip out of the competition. A team of high schoolers come in first, with the British guys next, and the White Camarones in 3rd place for the day, at about 3:30 pm. Afterwards, come two more teams of high school students and another team of Limenos who are having trouble with their raft.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day 3
You’re in an ocean, but you’re also in a jungle. It feels like you’re in a desert of water. You have been paddling for 5 hours with your crew -the White Camarones. The sun beats down on the tip of your nose, and the space between your sock and your hiking pants. You’re sweaty, tired, tired of the groups music, and often can’t tell which direction you’re supposed to be paddling in - the line of trees is equidistant in all directions, the sand bars blurry and flat everywhere you look. Oh yeah, and there’s exactly ZERO current to nudge you around, or give you a clue to the correct path.
Around 1-2 pm (your sense of time was very warped on this adventure), you are on a high from recently having surpassed another raft, and gaining a large lead on it. A cloud cover appears but doesn’t really protect you from the sun, but winds begin to pick up and cool you down. Then it starts sprinkling. The drops fall majestically into the amazon river. In a few minutes, it’s pouring. The water droplets plop loudly and dance on the river before being absorbed. The White Camarones turn up to the sky to catch a few drops in their mouth. One camaron takes a GoPro Video. The team is one with nature, the rain, the river, the raft. You hop off the raft to enjoy the rain even closer to the river.  Who knows how long that delicious rain lasted, but wow was it a highlight of the week. Once you emerge from the storms, the number one raft is in site. Refreshed, you all eat a quick snack of Ritz, peanut butter, and some nuts, and paddle hard.
You gain on the first place team and soon you are locked paddle to paddle. You notice that they no longer have music - speaker must have died.  The adolescent row hard, with their coach even leading them in some war chants. But they’re no match for the White Camarones. You get a good lead on the first place team, but realize the sun is beginning to go down. At 3/4 pm, you figure that the main boat must be towing all the boats behind you, because no way they’ll be able to finish before the sun goes down. You haven’t even been able to see another team (besides the first place team), since before the storm. You’ve already been rowing now for 8 hours - today’s finish line must be close, right? Head White Cameron Jonah promises to buy Jacqui an orea milkshake to not give up. After some complaints, White Camaron Jonah promises to buy the whole team milkshakes for their efforts. You all row, as slowly the light fades away, and concern grows. In the darkness, you no longer have any clue where the other team is. Last you saw, they were on the edge of the river. Fortunately, the main boat shows up. They yell down at you that the finish line is close. Brave Cameron Jacqui yells back at them - it’s dark here, es peligroso, you can’t leave us on a raft in a dark river with just a cellphone light. They are taken aback but pull in the raft and tie it to the side of the boat. Then they want help finding all of the other teams. We are the only team onboard, and no-one has finished the day’s race. After about 15 minutes, we find the second-place team - a professor chaperoning three high school students. The captain now tells him he MUST get on the main boat because of the danger. The professor refuses. He will not be convinced. He verbally assumes responsibility of his raft and students, and they continue rowing. The main boat will continue sailing along the course to find the other four rafts. Fortunately, within about a half an hour, they find the rafts, which have all banded together for safety. Everyone is pulled up onto the boat.  The White Camarones drink their milkshakes, and as it looks like it’s going to rain, pitch their tent on the deck of the boat, next to all of the high schoolers.  By midnight Camaron Cristina has to yell at all of them to shut up (not exactly), but graciously they all go to bed after that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day 4
With the lack of current, and looong rowing times all the teams are making, the organizers FINALLY realize that they needed to make adjustments to this race. After 4-5 hours of rowing, they tow all of the boats and take you close to the finish line. The professor doesn’t want to be towed, so that team continues rowing. The other teams are tired and decide not to get back on the water for the last stretch. Fittingly, only the White Camarones are unleashed. They leave you about 30 minutes, and 300ish meters from the finish line. But of course, at the finish you need to row into a river that feeds into the Amazon river, so you are actually rowing against the current, and while there was no current for the first 25 hours of this rice, suddenly the winds are picking up, and the waves are ramming over your raft. As a team, you manage to stay in the shallow part and oar your way about 100 meters towards the finish line. But now you are in open water, and there seems to be current in all directions. All four camarones row as hard as they can, as in-sync as they ever have. But you do not move forward. You decide to try angling the raft differently, but again, no progress. You let the raft go backwards a bit, to see if the current is weaker in a different area. Again, the four camarones row as hard as they can for 5 minutes. You do not move at all. The media boat is right there taking great pictures of you rowing in the wind and drizzle. You are all laughing - “now what?! we are so close.” The little media motorboat ties you up again, and takes you about 30 meters from the finish line.  Now, you will row perpendicular to the current, not against, but still, the current could easily take the raft downstream. The motorboat unleashes you, and once again you row with everything you have. You make it to land! “Ha llegado el sazon de Canete!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here you are greeted by people handing you Sporade (like gatorade), girls dancing in traditional wear and giving you bracelets, some children who want photos, and program organizers who tell you NOT to speak any spanish, only english. A woman who sold us paint for our boat was even there, as part of a rotary club! Everyone congratulates us on our first place finish - we tried to explain that actually we were towed (everyone had watched us be towed too), so we did not win first place. But they disagreed since we were the only team there. Then we walked to eat some rice and chicken (rice for me). We made it back to our hostel, ordered a pizza, and passed out!
Note:
Every single day Los Kushuris de Kate won first place. They were always ahead of everyone, and even would hang back to make sure the other teams weren’t having problems. For example whirlpools! Which we almost got stuck in on the last day. Every day they won first place, and they were not towed once. I didn’t mention them in the competition because, the rest of us were in a completely different league from the Kushuris. They were very kind, helpful, and strong!! Even through the storm against the current, they made it.
The team of adolescent boys and their stubborn professor also made it. I don’t believe they were towed. On the last day they didn’t quite row to the finish line, but they did make it about 50 meters downstream, which is pretty impressive. However I’m pretty sure the weather had eased up by the time they showed up ;)

English translation:
No, we're not a normal country.
Written by Estela Díaz, Minister of Women, Gender-related Policy and Sexual Diversity of the Buenos Aires Province. Published by the Argentinean newspaper "Page 12" on August 4th, 2023.
Link to the original article in Spanish: https://www.pagina12.com.ar/574430-no-no-somos-un-pais-normal
--------------------------------------------------
As one of the pillars of its eternal campaign of discouragement, the Argentinean right wing insists on the idea that Argentina "is not a normal country." And as illustrated very synthetically by a spot replicated on social media, this may be true because it is a different, "wonderful homeland". It is also true in its contribution to the fight for women's equality, the struggle of diversity collectives, and the female leaders we were able to conceive.
It is not normal that one same country has generated Eva Duarte de Perón and the Mothers and Grandmothers of May Square, and in the 21st century, a female leadership like that of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, mass movements such as "Not One Woman Less", the International Women's Strikes, and the Green Wave for abortion rights.
It is not normal to have a popular movement such as Peronism -the most important in Argentinean history- represented by two couples of leaders: in its emergence in the middle of the last century, J.D. Perón and Eva; at the end of that century and the beginning of the current one, Néstor Kirchner and Cristina, who renewed the movement's doctrine as the link between love and politics was reinforced. The undoubtedly assembled personal affections intersect with the love for the neighbour and for the homeland.
It is not normal for societies to be so politicized, from the entire ideological spectrum. Everything is discussed politically in this country, and there's a role obviously played by women in that politicization. Despite having been confined for centuries to the domestic sphere, they always found a way to have that resistant, collective, fighting voice be heard. In Argentina, women were protagonists since early times in the struggles for independence, for equal wages at the birth of the labour movement around 1900, and for universal suffrage; the latter was crowned massively with "Evita" Perón with the approval of the women's suffrage law in 1947, and it was also materialized in terms of political organization in more than 3,600 local headquarters (known in Argentinean Peronism as "grassroots units") of the Feminine Peronist Party, and the first national and provincial congresswomen elected in 1951 in a most early precedent of the electoral quota that would have Argentina as a pioneer country in 1991.
It is not normal that, back in 1950, "Evita" had already proposed that housework be recognized economically, that it was invisible work and was putting women in conditions bordering on slavery. She anticipated a debate and proposals the feminist movement would only manage to develop half a century later.
It is not normal for women –such as the Mothers and Grandmothers of May Square– to stand up to our most atrocious and bloody dictatorship, turning turned the round walk into a march and the diaper into a handkerchief, the latter being a worldwide emblem of resistance to authoritarianism today; women who thus disrupted the history of the identification of women solely as mothers, a system that ensured women's subordination in patriarchal societies. From this socialization and politicization of the motherhood of the Mothers and Grandmothers of May Square, common sense was transformed and the horizon of popular feminisms in Argentina was broadened.
It is not normal that, for more than thirty-five years and without interruption, there are national meetings of women, lesbians, transvestite and trans people, who debate in a participatory manner and generate the largest manifestations in the history of every city of the country. It's also not normal for these meetings and manifestations to be repeated like rites renewing a movement that, in each historical context, gradually defines a political agenda that always defends the expansion and conquest of rights and resists the attacks in times of neoliberalism.
It is not normal for the first female president, elected and re-elected, after losing mid-term elections and Néstor –her partner in life and activism–, to reinforce his management decisions by deepening the "National Project" in a popular sense. She recovered the retirement and pension system, which had been privatized in the 90s, and implemented the Universal Allocation per Child, gay marriage, the gender identity law, the law on domestic workers' labour rights, and so many other laws and policies that, by 2015, had left the country largely free of foreign debt and with high levels of wealth redistribution.
It is not normal to produce a massive and creative social movement like Argentinean feminism, which has created slogans –the "Not One Woman Less"– and symbols –the white handkerchief first, the green one later– replicated across Latin America and the world.
What is normal is the right wing, in all its versions, attacking gender-related policies, women's rights, and the active presence of the State, expressed as women's ministries with some of the highest hierarchies and budgets in the world. Because the right wing knows the People's Feminism we embody is a movement that will confront them and offer effective resistance to their attempts to destroy our rights.
In a nutshell, it is true: we're not a normal country. We're a wonderful country.

WLW tv recs
Ok, so these are my personal favorites that probably have a similar, more ‘mature’, vibe like Leyren.
(Link in titles)
Maggie & Sydney (Saving Hope)
Tumblr media
These two are VERY similar to Leyren, imo. Maggie is one of the main characters and served a similar position in the ensemble as Lauren being the ‘reckless’ one that needed to get her personal life together, and Sydney came in season 3 as the unique recurring love interest that took her by surprise.
(looks like the videos in the playlist can get a bit out of order, so look out for that)
Root & Shaw (Person of Interest)
Tumblr media
Person of Interest actually became one of my all time favorite shows. I started watching because I had heard about this potential pairing, but I became obsessed with the whole thing. Root is introduced at the end of season 1, is recurring in season 2, and then is a regular from 3 on, and Shaw is introduced mid-season 2 and becomes a regular from 3 on. If you find yourself liking the vibe, I highly recommend the show. The first season is meh, then half of season 2 is incredible, and then from 3 on its truly high quality and some of my top favorite tv ever. Their story might not make a ton of sense without the greater context of the show, but I’m sure you’d still enjoy it.
Pepa & Silvia (Los Hombres de Paco)
Tumblr media
This was a random show in Spain like... nearly 15 years ago, but I was watching their story at the time thanks to people subbing and I just adored everything about them. (tragic but beautiful ending)
(go to the channel to see all the parts. I think they sometimes don’t sub parts without the girls in it, but it should all have english subs)
Jamie & Dani (The Haunting of Bly Manor)
Tumblr media
A good show on Netflix if you’re okay with gothic romance type stories. Not really scary, but ghosts are involved. This couple was a surprise and one of the most lovely things I’ve ever witnessed. I would recommend just watching the show since it’s so short and I can’t really find their romantic scenes edited out (they’re the lead characters). They had/have a massive fandom on tumblr, so there’s lots of great content when you’re done. Also, The Haunting of Hill House (technically the first season, but they’re separate stories) is brilliant and has a lesbian main character too.
Yorkie & Kelly (Black Mirror 3x04 - San Junipero)
Tumblr media
Black Mirror is an anthology show on Netflix, so each episode is like its own separate movie (just go there to watch the full thing). This episode is a masterpiece and a wlw classic.
Juliana & Valentina (Amar a Muerte)
Tumblr media
I think they’re one of the first lesbian couples on a Mexican telenovela. Or at least one that was able to show affection (they actually cut most of their  intimate scenes, but they shared them separately online later). Very sweet. Some similarities to Leyren--almost as if it’s Lauren and Leyla meeting as teenagers. The first half of their story is a beautiful love story on their own, but then they get swept up in the bizarre larger plot of the show and it gets kinda weird, but the first half is beautiful and totally worth watching.
(the last video on that drive is the full story)
Alex & Maggie (Supergirl)
Tumblr media
I don’t really care for coming out stories, but they did a nice job with this one and the actresses had great chemistry. Sadly the recurring one, Maggie, left because the actress got better work, but I still think they were great while they lasted.
(link is first part, go to channel and scroll through to find each part. sadly not a playlist)
Cosima & Delphine (Orphan Black)
Tumblr media
A good show on its own, so I’d recommend it. This relationship kinda gets wonky in the middle, but they get a happy ending.
Cristina & Isabel (Tierra de Lobos)
Tumblr media
Girl falls in love with her father’s prostitute. Tale as old as time, right? Not a very happy story, and the second half is... brutal, but there was something about them I’ve always loved.
Jenny and Emma (Hand Aufs Herz)
Tumblr media
Probably my top comfort ship. It’s a cheesy, dated German soap that was trying to be like a cheap version of Glee, but these two... they make it worth it. Top 3 personal favorites, but I understand they might not hold up for a lot of people.
(Playlist might not go all the way through, so you might have to use the ‘all vidoes’ section of the user)
Petra and JR (Jane the Virgin)
Tumblr media
They’re just cute. And hot. There was also another lesbian couple on the show (Luisa and Rose), but while they were also very hot, they weren’t really one you ended up rooting for.
Quinn and Isabela (Harlem)
Tumblr media
A show on Amazon you might like. These two haven’t really taken off yet, but it was picked up for a season 2 so I’m hoping that’s what Quinn’s story will mainly be about now. They cute.
Florencia & Jazmin (Las Estrellas)
Tumblr media
An Argentinian telenovela about 5 sisters with different mothers but the same father inheriting a hotel when he dies that they have to run successfully for a few years together in order to actually get anything from his will. Florencia is one of the sisters who has tourettes and falls for the redheaded hotel cook, Jazmin. It’s campy and dramatic, as any good telenovela is, but unlike the others they got the same treatment for intimate scenes and screentime in general, so they were a really big deal.
And then movies I would recommend:
Kyss Mig (’With Every Heartbeat’ in english)
Tumblr media
A really beautiful well made romantic drama (from Sweden I think). Before ‘Portrait of a Lady on Fire’ I thought this was the best quality film we’d had so far.
Imagine Me & You
Tumblr media
Probably the best (and only) true classic rom-com. It’s iconic.
Portrait of a Lady on Fire
Tumblr media
Just... brilliant. This is one you need to really sit and be present for.
The Half of It (Netflix movie)
Tumblr media
Cute teen romance movie. We’re all hoping there will be a second one but who knows with Netflix.
The World to Come
Tumblr media
It’s a harsh movie, but it makes their romance more beautiful. I hate the ending with a fiery passion... so I just pretend it didn’t happen.
Gia
Tumblr media
Angelina Jolie and Elizabeth Mitchell. Enough said.
Desert Hearts
Tumblr media
A classic, and one of the only older movies we have with a happy ending.
D.E.B.S
Tumblr media
Super campy but a lesbian cult classic.
Carol
Tumblr media
I would categorize it more under a movie about gay people but for straight people, like most things, but still stunning cinema and beautifully well made. Nothing to really dislike about it.
Saving Face
Tumblr media
Cute, and refreshingly not about white people.
Summerland
Tumblr media
HUGE Lauren and Leyla vibes. Just with eccentric writers, not doctors.
There’s lots more I can recommend, but these are my favorites.

Hi! I was looking at pictures of the Infantas Beatriz and María Cristina (daughters of Alfonso XIII and Victoria Eugenie) and I saw the one at the pre-wedding dinner of JC and Sofía and I have no idea of what tiara is María Cristina (at the right) wearing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It doesn't look like anything I know from Ena, so is it perhaps something from her husband's family? The pictures aren't the best but it looks like chunky flowers with a colour stone in the middle doesn't it?
Anyway whatever you can tell me I'll appreciate it as always 💚
She‘s wearing an emerald and diamond tiara by Mellerio that belonged to Infanta Isabella “La Chata” of Spain, Countess of Girgenti.  The flowers can be removed and worn as other jewelry.  This is from Mellerio dits Meller: Joillier des Reines by Vincent Meylan which is in French and I do not speak French so hopefully I got this all correct.  The sketch below is from the 1860s and Queen Isabella II bought an emerald and diamond garland tiara from Mellerio shortly after her exile to France in 1868 so this tiara was probably a gift to Infanta Isabella from her mother like the Shell Tiara which was bought right before exile.  Queen Isabella II just kept ordering jewelry from Mellerio in exile the way she always had but she wasn’t paying for it and in 1870 Mellerio stopped selling to her on credit and sued her for the jewelry she hadn’t paid for.  After some negotiations she agree to pay for the jewelry she had ordered in exile but refused to pay for the stuff she ordered when still the Queen of Spain.  In 1972 the court said she had to pay for those too which she did and Infanta Isabella got to keep both tiaras.

Infanta Isabella left both tiaras to her nephew King Alfonso XIII and he gave the emerald floral tiara to his daughter, Infanta Maria Cristina, Countess Marone. I’ve never seen a picture of Queen Ena wearing it even though she would have had access to it from 1931 until probably 1940 when Maria Cristina got married since I assume this was a wedding present. Maria Cristina passed away in 1996 and she has four daughters so one of them could have inherited it but I’ve never seen pictures of any of them wearing it.  I’ve also never seen anything about it being sold even though that wouldn’t surprise me since it’s been so long since it’s been photographed being worn.

Here’s what is most likely a preliminary sketch of the tiara from the Mellerio archives.  The sketch has five flowers but the final tiara only seems to have three.

I wish there were better pictures of it being worn.
