Bathena: First argument from season 4 resurfaces in season 7
Tumblr media
Unpopular opinion: Bathena's arc in season 7 seems to be related to their future as retirees and it's a repeat of the argument they had in season 4.
Please understand, I'm not saying they will retire at the end of season 7 but I am saying it's possible they're being setup to start thinking about it so they can prepare in advance. If they are then Bobby will have to pick someone to train to be the next captain of the 118 and Athena may have to train someone to take over the region/territory she covers as a field sergeant.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Based solely on the conversation they had with Norman and Lola during their first dinner on the ship, along with Athena's fear of being alone with Bobby because she's not sure what they'll have to discuss when there's "no chaos" (her words to Frank), it appears their first argument that began in 4x12 and carried over into 4x13 and 4x14 has resurfaced in 7x1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 4x12, when Bobby was hyped about finding the treasure, Athena asked him where his interest in it came from and the last answer that he gave her was "We can even decide to retire". She looked at him and replied, "Retire? I thought you loved your job." He said, "I do but jobs like ours... nobody does them forever." He was correct because their jobs as a captain and a sergeant are demanding and they won't last forever. People can age out of them and sometimes employees are forced out for ReAsOnS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To make a long story short, she said she planned to be on those streets (being a sergeant) until they forced her off them and Bobby was taken aback by her response then replied, "Somebody almost did" and he was talking about Jeffrey. They continued to talk but Bobby learned from the things she said that she had been offered retirement after 3x17 but she turned it down. He went on to explain that he didn't know about it and well... their communications or lack thereof, continued until it turned into a huge argument in 4x13 that went into 4x14. The only thing that stopped them from continuing was Hen's call to Bobby about Eddie getting shot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They made up in 4x14 and they didn't discuss it again.
Fast forward three years and here they are again, faced with the real possibility that the day is coming when they'll have to retire. This is NOT about ageism or anything like that but it is about them being realistic. Everyone at the 118, Maddie and Athena are all seven years older than they were back in season 1 (Eddie and Maddie didn't join the cast until a year later but they're all older than they were) and Bobby had a point when he told his wife that jobs like theirs don't go on forever. Most LAFD and LAPD civil servants have the option to retire and collect their pensions at the age of 55 so it's an option.
Tumblr media
Athena's explanation to Frank illustrated how she's afraid of the way their communications will be after they don't have their jobs to discuss anymore and she also mentioned how she's afraid to talk to Bobby about it.
Tumblr media
Bobby believes she's avoiding him (she was) and it affected him so much he went to an AA meeting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
IMO, Norman and Lola are on the ship too as a way to show Bobby and Athena that retirement can be a good thing but they'll have to plan for it like Norman and Lola did. Reminder, they just kept popping up everywhere they went and Athena said she didn't like them. It could be because they remind her of their future. (TM is a genius for establishing their retirement arc this way.) Norman and Lola are happy and enjoying their lives while living on a cruise ship. While Bobby and Athena don't have to do what they did, their storylines do parallel especially since Norman specifically said he was a retired dry cleaner from Encino, CA and he wasn't a rich guy who had lots of bitcoin and he doesn't have a dongle. That was a direct callback to 4x12 when Bobby wanted to find the treasure so they could setup trusts for the kids, remodel their kitchen and guess what else? Retire!
After Lola finally got Norman's attention in 2x8, they've been inseparable. Also, don't forget Lola said she spent 18 years raising their kids and then Norman stopped seeing her. He really didn't because he was just going on with life but she thought he did. She explained that he came to see her everyday while she was in jail and they've continued to communicate ever since and now they can't stay away from each other.
Bobby and Athena spent most of 7x1 not communicating but when they got into their "crime fighting mode" after assuming Norman had killed Lola, like they've done before when they were investigating the owner who burned down his restaurant in season 2 and the casino heist in season 5, they were unstoppable. He's a fire captain so he knows fires and she's a field sergeant which means she knows crime and investigations, therefore, they're an awesome duo who could combine their skillsets and build an empire. IMO, they would make an awesome private investigations team but I digress.
Reminder, they're empty nesters now and when they're not at work, they spend most of their time talking about it. All of their friends are at work too and we never see them hanging out with other couples like Norman and Lola so maybe this is a good thing. Also, if they don't plan now, what are they going to do when they actually do retire?
Only they can answer that question or they'll end up like the first couple in the episode who had the fighter jet land inside of their home, onery, frustrated and angry.
Disclaimer: facing retirement is a real fear for some people because they didn't/don't prepare or discuss what they want to do after their jobs end. Some people make their jobs their life and when it's over, they don't know what to do with themselves. That's why work/life balance is important along with setting boundaries with an employer.
There's an old saying, "I work to live, I don't live to work" and it's true.

Theory: Root is alive
The Machine faked Root's death, knowing it was the only way to protect Root and motivate Finch to do what was needed to defeat Samaritan.
5x10
The Machine is unable to see the sniper because Samaritan's operatives work in the shadows, but sees Root get shot and sends the police to their location, as it is the fastest way to get medical attention for Root and Finch into custody where Samaritan would be less likely to have another opportunity to target him.
Root is then taken to hospital where Dr Madeleine Enright performs surgery to save her. The Machine summoned her because She needed a skilled surgeon who was trustworthy and wouldn't ask too many questions, and it is mentioned in 4x13 that Dr Enright is among the past numbers who have been helping the team ("Dr. Enright is keeping an eye on Delia at the safe house.").
Once Root is stable, this is the point where the Machine decides to fake her death. As she is injured, Root wouldn't be able to defend herself when Samaritan comes to finish the job, so her only chance is for the Machine to make sure they aren't looking for her. Or rather, they aren't looking for her alive.
Dr Enright injects her with aconite (like Shaw in 2x16) to make her appear deceased long enough to be pronounced dead and for Fusco to identify her body as a Jane Doe, then revives her with atropine.
Meanwhile, the Machine had also summoned Dr Farouk Madani, another previous ally of the team who used to work in a morgue and still owes Finch a favor as mentioned in 3x05. He locates a body matching Root's description and handles the necessary paperwork. And Dr Carr, the otolaryngologist who gave Root her cochlear implant in 3x17, removes her implant and puts it in the new body (more on this later), which is then sent to be buried in Root's place.
During the chaos of inmates being freed at the prison, Daizo, Jason and Daniel are able to get Root out of the hospital and go into hiding. The Machine chose them for this task because they were shielded from Samaritan at the end of season 3, giving them more room to maneuver freely, and Root already knows and trusts them.
The reason the Machine doesn't tell the team about faking Root's death is because Samaritan has eyes everywhere and She can't risk them finding out. She also heard Finch and Root's conversations about him needing to take a more active role in the fight against Samaritan and all the people he's lost, and knows that having him believe he's lost another friend is the only way to push him into doing what it takes to win the war.
The Machine then chooses to use Root's voice for multiple reasons: 1) to sell the story that Root is really dead. 2) She needs to be able to communicate clearly and quickly so Her usual spliced-together recordings wouldn't work. 3) This is the first time She will have prolonged contact with someone other than Root and She is on her own, so using Root's voice is a way to have part of Her interface with Her still.
When the Machine calls Finch from the hospital, he asks, "Root?". The Machine replies, "No, Harold. I chose a voice." She does not tell him Root is dead, but rather allows him to come to that conclusion based on the state in which he last saw her and the fact that She is now using her voice.
5x11
When the Machine talks to Finch about Root being dead, this is the only time She uses a name Root no longer identifies with. Therefore, when She says "I watched her die 12,483 times in the seconds before she expired. I couldn't save her, but I kept trying.", She is actually talking about accessing old footage of young!Root, watching her become the Root we know and running simulations to see whether things could have happened differently ("You taught me to see everything, see everyone, and I do. But I see thousands of versions of them: what they were, what they are, what they could be."). The Machine couldn't save her because this happened before She was built.
Much like how She went behind the team's back to protect Root by faking her death with the help of past numbers, in this episode the Machine goes behind the team's back to protect Reese by giving his number to the DC Team made up of past numbers.
5x12
The Machine says, "You know I can't lie to you, Harold." As we've seen, She can withhold information or choose to phrase things a particular way, but can't say an outright lie. At no point does she ever explicitly say Root is dead.
The Machine also says that in a world where She didn't exist, Shaw "never would have met Root." Finch adds, "Or lost her." The Machine does not address this comment at all.
5x13
When Shaw visits Root's grave and discovers the soil disturbed, the Machine comments that it "looks like they dug her up. Guessing they got to her cochlear implant. I should have had her cremated, but I just didn't have the heart. My bad." The Machine is only stating what it 'looks like', not what actually happened. And it is very suspicious that the Machine, who was created to predict human behavior and watched Samaritan try to cut the cochlear implant out of Root's head while she was alive, would fail to predict them going grave robbing for it.
Unless, after deciding to fake Root's death, She knew they wouldn't stop until they found it so lets them have it on Her terms. (As previously mentioned, the cochlear implant had been inserted into a body matching Root's description that was buried in her place. Having her cremated, and by extension destroying the cochlear implant beyond use, would have prevented an innocent person's body from being desecrated, but She couldn't give up a chance to defeat Samaritan.)
Once Samaritan scans the implant to access the location data, the Machine is also able to access more information on Samaritan which She then integrates into the copy of Her core code made by Shaw. This, along with the greater defensive capabilities created by Root and activated by Finch, allows her to beat Samaritan in the satellite, when She couldn't win any of the simulated fights.
The Machine knew that this would lead them to the team's frequent locations, so She arranges to protect them by stationing a sniper near the precinct ("It seems Thornhill Industries has been on a hiring spree.") and instructing Shaw to blow a hole in the wall of the subway station that allows them to escape.
Later, when Shaw asks "Is this the guy who killed you? Killed her, I mean.", the Machine changes the subject. This is because She can't lie and couldn't risk telling the truth when Samaritan might find out. Although they don't have much time, it wouldn't have taken long to confirm what Shaw already suspects and she has never been the type to let a desire for revenge interfere with completing the mission since "a good soldier does both" (2x16).
When the Machine directs Finch onto the rooftop, he asks, "Wait, are you sure this is the right place?" and She replies, "Yes. This is where you're supposed to be." It is then revealed that She secretly made a deal with Reese allowing him to sacrifice himself in Finch's place. This shows once again that She will go behind Her assets' backs to protect them and uses careful phrasing to misdirect them without lying.
After defeating Samaritan, the duplicate Machine downloads Herself to the subway station computers and declares 'mission unknown. Awaiting instructions…'. The message left by Her predecessor then begins playing and tells Her about Her assets ("let me tell you who we were") and Her mission ("let me tell you who you are").
As the next scene is Her calling the payphone by Shaw, She must have been given instructions to contact any surviving assets. Shaw answers and it is unlikely the Machine gives her a new number, because She had only just gotten back online and the last time She was reduced to Her core code in order to fit in the briefcase, it took Her a while to start operating normally. We also see that She only begins to scan the crowd after Shaw hangs up.
It can't be Her signature 'can you hear me?' because Shaw doesn't reply. Instead, it must be a message Her predecessor told Her to relay - that She survived, Samaritan is gone for good and it's time to get back to work, followed by a set of coordinates that lead to Root's location as she is both a surviving asset and someone who can help Her get back up and running.
It is doubtful the Machine tells Shaw Root is alive in that moment, because she would have reacted with more shock and betrayal than we saw, and likely demanded an explanation immediately. Instead, she is smiling because they won the war and she can continue saving people.
Shaw then goes to the location, which is a new safehouse where Daizo, Jason and Daniel have been looking after Root, who is still unconscious but recovering. The building has been set up as their new base of operations, since the subway was somewhat destroyed during the final battle.
When Root soon wakes up, she and Shaw are very happy to be reunited and promise never to leave each other again. The Machine moves Herself to the computer equipment in the new safehouse and Root helps Her get recalibrated, as we saw in 5x02 and the flashbacks in 4x05. "There we go. Now, can you see me? Excellent. Next question, who am I? That's my girl." Root becomes both Admin and Analog Interface and Shaw is the Primary Asset.
Together, Root, Shaw, the Machine and Bear get back to working the numbers, with help from their friends and allies.

Has anyone else noticed how a lot of the episodes of One Tree Hill Season 3 are kind of mirrors of Season 2 but happier versions? There's a lot of smaller parallels but these are the biggest three.
We start with 2x15 and 3x15. In 2x15, they record the time capsule and Nathan and Haley's marriage is in a really dark and sad place. In 3x15, they are starting to reconcile and then someone releases the time capsule early/without authorization. Thankfully Nathan and Haley are in a better place when this happens so they communicate and work things out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next is 2x17 and 3x17. In 2x17, Nathan drives all the way to where Haley is on tour. Lays his heart on the line and then sees that Haley is no longer wearing her wedding ring. Then at the end of that episode Nathan leaves and takes his wedding ring off as well. 3x17 in contrast is a major turning point where Nathan and Haley have completely reconciled and he tells her that he wants to live with her and be her husband again! 😍💕
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last is 2x19 and 3x19. In 2x19, Uncle Cooper comes into town. Takes Nathan and Lucas to his workplace where I believe he's a race car driver (he's involved with race cars somehow). An extremely depressed Nathan ends up crashing the race car he's driving. In 3x19, Uncle Cooper comes back for the first time since that incident and there's even a reference to the events of 2x19

What is your favourite Skloom moment?
It is impossible to choose just one. I'm just gonna list a few of my favourites: (note that I grew up on the 4kids dub, so a few of the moments I'm gonna mention the dialogue is going to come from that dub for the first 3 seasons)
-their date in 1x10.
-just the entirety of 2x10 and 2x14. I love them. They're some of my favourite episodes.
-The part in 2x21 (again, specifically the 4kids dub) Bloom gets woken up by some wildlife, and Sky's up keeping watch and he assures her they only eat plants. "nothing to worry about ma'am." it was so cute!!! and then Bloom says that the animals sound sad and lonely Sky says "maybe they just miss the ones they love." the scene is just adorable and I love it. -2x26: It's my favourite finale and my favourite episode of the series for a reason. Sky trying to get through to Bloom and telling her that he loves her and their 'first' kiss at the end of the episode. It's so good!!! -Their reunion in 3x17 after the whole millennium party fiasco. it took a while but I think it was worth it in the end. And all their moments in the episode helped make up for it. -their little scene at the end of 5x8.
-5x11 and 5x12 were great episodes for them.
-The scene at the end of 5x16 until Diaspro ruins it.
-Them reuniting in 5x22 after all the sovereigns council BS and Diaspro trying to mess with their communication while Sky is basically being held against his will in his own home. (maybe I'm overthinking that but that's how it feels to me)
-They don't get a whole lot of moments together in season 6 but the small ones we do get are pretty nice. 6x6 is one of their best episodes. Even though Bloom was incapacitated for a good chunk of the episode Sky did his best to protect her and literally jumped into the vortex of flames to save her before Thoren pulled him back out.
-Almost forgot the movies I can't narrow it down all their scenes in all three movies are great and I can't list them all. I do love the horse riding/proposal scene in Magical Adventure the most though.
I've probably missed some but I wanted to try to narrow it down :P

how did you get your hands on those scripts? do you think there’s any chance you’ll be able to get any other ones?
for finding scripts in general, the best bet is a) creep ebay, and b) to get really involved in the entertainment memorabilia community. collecting prop/wardrobe/crew stuff from shows i like is my little niche hobby that i don't get to talk about that often haha, so being involved with facebook groups/prop sites/getting to know people lets me get my hands on things that never make it onto ebay. a lot of times crew members from a production will also pop their heads in and offer up some of their personal stuff (that's how i got the copies of the scripts i have)
supergirl is an interesting one because the cw is very very touchy about releasing scripts so there aren't TOO many floating around, but i know marc guggenheim sold off some of his copies a few years ago for charity so you'll see bits of certain episodes (like 3x17 and 3x12, i've seen excerpts from both of those on twitter) making the rounds from the people who bought them, and now and then the physical versions are passed around for resale.
right now i have 2x05 (which is what i posted from the other week) with some notes in it from the writers, an early draft of 3x01 (i didn't post anything from this because i know someone else way back when had another copy so i wasn't sure if y'all had already seen the good stuff in it but if i'm wrong and you want me to share some of it, give me a shout!), and some s1/2 episodes sans lena. i POSSIBLY will be getting copies of 2x12, 2x21, and 4x16 soon. i'm exhausting every relationship i have to find some s5 scripts but i'm at the point where i'm convinced the cw burned them all lmaoooooo

Xander: Why was your mom there? Buffy: More bad. She picked last night, of all nights, for a surprise bonding visit. Willow: God, your mom would actually take the time to do that with you? [Buffy shoots Willow a look.] Willow: That really wasn't the point of the story, was it? Buffy: No. The point is, she's completely wigging.

Ranking Gossip Girl seasons: my opinion
1. Season 2 - The season when Chuck and Blair became the central couple of the show and it has a lot of memorable Chuck/Blair scenes (I counted that a half of my top 10 Chuck/Blair scenes belong to this season) and a lot of great episodes. We get to learn more about them as characters, and other characters and their storylines are interesting as well. My favourite episode on the entire show, my favourite music moment, season opener and season finale - all come from this season. What not to love?
2. Season 1 - Another great season I love dearly. The plot flows effortlessly, the characters and their stories are interesting and unlike other seasons it doesn't have obvious filler episodes, everything seems relevant and important. It's also the only season where I'm ok with Dan. The only reason I don't put it first is that a lot of Chuck/Blair stuff happen off-screen. I would love to see more of their secret affair between Seventeen Candles and Hi Society (how did they come together and start to sleep together regularly after Seventeen Candles in the first place?), Blair's drunk dialing to Chuck he refers to in 1x17 and how they schemed against Georgina and ended up asleep on Blair's bed.
3. Season 3 - It's less exciting than the first two seasons, I felt that the writers struggled to tie everything together smoothly without the uniting high-school setting and I found Dan/Vanessa and Nate/Serena super random (I rolled my eyes at Dan developing romantic feelings for Vanessa out of blue and Nate suddenly remembering about his feelings for Serena after we had seen no trace of them since the first half of Season 1) and Lily's cancer storyline unconvincing. But it still was a solid season. I appreciate that we finally saw Chuck and Blair together as a couple and demonstrating their deep love, tenderness to each other, acceptance and understanding (all those domestic cuddling scenes in bed, the Thanksgiving kiss etc.). Although their relationship broke down in 3x17 and it was obvious that they still had a lot of growing up to do, to learn to trust each other and honest communication, I love them together, they are the only couple on the show who behaved like married before getting married. I also appreciate that it gave a glimpse of a great man Chuck was capable of being when his emotional issues didn’t obstruct him. In the first half of the season Chuck indeed, as Blair said, carried people.
4. Season 6 - I actually like this season. Its biggest problem is that it has only 10 episodes and therefore it feels rushed. Who knows, maybe the lack of time was a major reason why the showrunners failed to solve some storylines in a believable way. It's really pity that the poorly written Season 5 buried a full Season 6, it would have been great to have more episodes. But even with some reservations (like, the Dan/Serena endgame) I enjoyed this season more than anything I saw on the show since the mid-season 4. It didn't have stupid, drawn out love triangles or over-melodrama, instead it was more reminiscent to the early seasons. Chuck and Blair's individual character arcs were completed resolving their individual issues, we saw them supporting each other, trusting each other and working as a team and their ending was deeply satisfying. Also, "It's Really Complicated" is my second favourite Thanksgiving episode after Season 1.
5. Season 4 - This one is really split in the middle to me. I like the first half of the season, The Witches of Bushwick and Double Identity are among my favourite episodes on the entire show. But after the Juliet thing was resolved everything descended into a boring mess that was making less and less sense and was hard to get through. Dan and Blair's friendship felt forced, the same can be said about Chuck's relationship with Raina, the Bass Industries and Russel Thorpe storyline was very convoluted and confusing, Blair's decision to get engaged at the age of 20 to a man she barely knew forgetting all her career aspirations was nonsensical (tbh, this revival of the fairytale fantasy was regress into childhood and I found it really annoying), Chuck breaking the window in rage seemed ooc, I didn't care about "Charlie Rhodes", I don't even remember what Serena did other than that Ben guy and Nate had become more underused than ever.
6. Season 5 - The worst season, hands down. Blair's pact with God, Dan/Blair romance, Diana as Chuck's fake mother, "maybe Jack is my father" - all were terrible storytelling ideas and should have never materialised. In fact, I would rewrite everything post-car accident. Also, I was never fond of the prince Louis fairytale storyline that dragged on and on, he too should be gone post-5x10. I didn't mind splitting Rufus and Lily and Bart's resurrection but I didn't like how it was executed. The same goes with Blair's pregnancy - they killed her baby and then swept her miscarriage under a rug to never be mentioned again, just what the hell? There had to be a scene, if only a tiny one, of her coming to terms with her loss. The lack of it made Blair look shallow. In many ways this season also was stagnant and probably the darkest for the main characters: Chuck made a considerable progress as a character but he was depressed 24/7 and non-stop suffering for Blair almost the entire season; Blair spent the season being passive, lost, confused and increasingly helpless first playing her fairytale fantasy with Louis, then hiding from her reality in Dan's fiction until 5x22; Serena after a promising start - she had gotten a job and stopped to latch onto guys - was losing everything and everyone bit by bit until she hit rock bottom in the finale; Dan continued his path of moral degradation without noticing it and in process became more insufferable. Only Nate fared relatively well, the newspaper thing finally provided him with something to do. But I wouldn't say that the Nate as a journalist storyline was very convincing either. All in all, I think that the showrunners wasted a lot of screentime that could and should be used better.

Meta: Root in the Faraday Cage
Part 1 - The ankle monitor
In 3x06, Finch imprisons Root in the Faraday Cage and she is wearing an ankle monitor, which she ‘found out the hard way what happens if I cross it’.
Tumblr media
[Image description: a screenshot from 3x06 showing a closeup of Root's leg wearing the ankle monitor. End image description.]
Since Root mentions that the table and bench are within the ankle monitor's proximity radius, she moves between them during her scenes in 3x07 and the Faraday Cage isn't very big, it is likely the boundary is somewhere near the door.
Tumblr media
[Image description: a screenshot from 3x06 of Root sitting at the table in the Faraday Cage, facing away from the camera. End image description.]
However, in 3x09 she is able to walk right up to the door and even touch it without experiencing any consequences during her conversation with Finch.
Tumblr media
[Image description: a screenshot from 3x09 of Root standing in front of the door to the Faraday Cage, with one hand touching the door. End image description.]
In 3x10, when Finch lets Root out of the cage to help them, he simply opens the door and gestures for her to leave. If she were still wearing the ankle monitor at this time, it is likely he would have needed to disable or remove it before she could exit.
Therefore she is no longer wearing the ankle monitor and likely hasn't been since before 3x09.
In 3x12, Root is able to escape and rescue Finch, Shaw and Claypool from Control then recommences doing jobs for the Machine. In 3x17, Shaw says ‘the only reason you’re not stuck in a cage right now is me’.
Therefore, it is likely that Shaw (who was the only person who believed Root was even slightly trustworthy and persuaded Finch to allow her to help them in 3x10) also persuaded Finch to remove Root's ankle monitor, thus allowing her more freedom of movement in the cage and the opportunity to escape if they didn't come back from a mission or the Machine told her they needed help. (It is also possible that Shaw could be referring to leaving the door unlocked, but given what we know about Root's capabilities it's unlikely that a locked door would present much of an obstacle.)
Part 2 - Communicating with the Machine
In 3x07, Root is standing by the window and looking out.
Tumblr media
[Image description: a screenshot from 3x07 of Root standing by the window in the Faraday Cage and looking out of it, with one hand touching the blinds. End image description.]
Then in 3x11, she is aware that Finch is ignoring the Machine and gives him their latest number.
Tumblr media
[Image description: a screenshot from 3x11 of Root sitting at the table in the Faraday Cage, holding out three books which their spines side by side. End image description.]
Therefore, she has a way of communicating with the Machine and, since it was established in 3x06 that no device would work inside the Faraday Cage, it must be something outside. The inclusion of her standing by the window could indicate that the Machine was projecting messages onto something Root could see outside, possibly a neighbor's television.

I honestly can’t believe Toni would let Cheryl join the farm... after everything that happened between them in the last episodes you might think they would talk more but that obviously isn’t the case.

#he’s so happy with his Austin friends #was he this goofy before
That is such a good question and I have a feeling it's a huge 'no', I don't know why, since the only time we saw him in NY was in the Pilot and 3x08 where tragic events happened, but it's just a feeling.
So these hashtags went back to an edit that @maxbegone did of TK bouncing his way back around the couch in 3x17 Spring Cleaning during the Great Catan Storm Out game...where Nancy and Mateo fought about not telling the team they were seeing each other by pretending to fight about Catan.
And I also agree that he wasn't this goofy before. I was chatting with some other people, looking at TK over the seasons, that when you rewatch Season One, TK's pretty angry. Even just look at the gifsets. His jaw juts out, he's got a protective wall up around himself a mile wide. When we look back at the pilot, he's happy before the bad proposal, but nothing compared to the level of joy we see in him after 1x10.
I really believe TK comes into his own in Texas. He's able to tease apart why he became a firefighter, and move himself over to a position to be on the paramedic team when he sees he needs a change. I think what's really telling for me, is his repsonse to Alex's rejection of his proposal vs. his response to the breakup with Carlos. There's a difference, for me, in the level of support and community that TK has and his overall joy, that even in the midst of a heartbreak, he doesn't fall apart entirely.
Similiarly, I feel like Carlos is a lot goofier Season Three than we ever saw him in Season One. Season One Carlos is fairly serious, a lot of his jokes are dry (please see the dart date for this). I'm still bitter 1x05's tamale date was delted (release the tapes tim). But by Season 3, the faces he makes during the Catan intervention, or earlier in the episode the sounds he's making while playing Catan. We see this a little bit over the course of Season 2 - from his kinda kitchen work in the hang in 2x01 vs the hang in 2x10 when he and TK are making very goofy faces at each other. Even his clothes and hair have relaxed.
They both seem lighter (even with the heaviness of season 3) as they move forward, and I keep thinking of the line from Hearstopper where Mrs. Nelson says "Charlie's a good friend. You're more yourself with him than you are with your other friends." And I think both TK and Carlos have become more themselves since meeting each other and developing this 126 hang friendship group. They're more relaxed and able to infuse a little more joy into their lives, and isn't that beautiful.

NOTES: For the first eleven episodes of Community I wasn’t keeping track of trans Jeff moments but I will when I rewatch. I also starred the key trans Jeff episodes (imo of course)
Without further ado...
Every transcoded Jeff Winger moment (I can remember) because he’s a trans man:
1x12*
getting punched in the face is his “male rite of passage” according to Pierce
1x14
“I’ve never been someone’s dirty little secret” the fact that he is now?? Transcoded
“I’m afraid of things getting official. If you say it you might later have to UNsay it.” Jeff was definitely terrified of coming out and realizing he was faking it huh
1x17*
Jeff is uncomfortable wearing short shorts in public and wants to wear his own clothes, he gets very uncomfortable when questioned about it
Abed says Jeff is 30% the trans guy from Boys Don’t Cry
Once again! Gets very defensive when accused of being panties
Coping with hypermasculinity is so trans
1x20
“What is THIS Jeff?” “My chest????” “What are you packing in these pants” “guys-“ this entire exchange is trans
1x25
Jeff being so done with tr*nny dance
That moment of him and Troy with the trans cookie in the same frame >>>
2x01
“An old drinking buddy who may or may not have had a sex change” makes Jeff cut Abed off and ask questions, I think he got nervous
2x03*
Blood test at a physical! Testosterone
2x06
Jeff is very protective over his suit
2x07
Jeff and Troy laughing about Y chromosomes because they don’t have them 😌 (yes Troy is trans too)
2x08
very proud of his chest, doesn’t want to cover it up at all
Jeff is very quiet during the period conversation
(I’m actually writing a fic about Jeff’s coming out that takes place during this episode)
2x10*
Jeff looking so confused and annoyed when Pierce said “I broke my legs not my gender”
Jeff giving Troy a manhood experience for his birthday!!!
2x12
all the women enter the same bathroom as Jeff
2x15
Pierce reading a supportive speech in case Britta is LGBTQ+ and telling Jeff to “wait for the one” he has for him
2x17
Jeff uses nipple guards when running
2x18*
“Abed...can I tell you something I’ve never told anyone else?”
Jeff had to wear a girl’s costume for Halloween
“Everyone kept saying what a pretty little girl. After a while, I stopped correcting them. What was the point?” Wow TRANS
2x21
“You disqualified yourself from this conversation [about women] the second you decided to grow a wang” “I regret nothing”
3x04
Jeff keeps his toiletries in a safe
3x05
Jeff being a vampire is transcoded I don’t elaborate
3x06* (this is just a great Jeff ep in general)
Threw a gay party and it was great
His dad fucking DISOWNED HIM?????
3x09*
“foosball was just masculine enough to get by without throwing it catching”
Jeff had a pony tail as a kid
“I changed my clothes, my hair, my personality”
“Foosball is how I defined myself as a man”
Jeff wearing a hoodie at the end of the episode?????
3x12*
Jeff “has bad posture and sometimes looks like he has boobs” according to Britta, a statement which made him uncomfortable and deflated his self esteem
Jeff really wants the award for most handsome young man
3x13-14
Flannel
3x17
“A man’s got to have a code. I can only assume a woman has an equivalent to that, like a codette or something” okay trans
3x19
Jeff really doesn’t like being separated from his jackets
4x01
I just think Jeff leading a dance with another man who is in drag is very trans coded okay
4x02
Jeff is so obsessed with his body that he must be a trans man proud of his transition
4x05*
“Jeff’s at the point in his life where he needs a strong father figure to come out to” is this not canon trans man
“You seem like a self made man.” “I mean, I kind of had to be.”

4x07*
Jeff is really enjoying his manly barber shave
4x10
everyone bought Jeff a hoodie for Christmas
4x11
Jeff is really scared of commitment to things regarding permanent choices or his own identity, maybe he struggled with this for his transition when he was younger
5x04
Jeff “would rather look at himself naked than the people he sleeps with” because he’s proud of his transition
5x07
Jeff and Duncan did a boys’ night! Maybe Duncan knew him before he transitioned and it made Jeff uncomfy until now
5x08
“my penis needs no enlargement” proud of his transition af
5x11*
Jeff is/was obsessed with GI Joe which was like Thee boys’ cartoon
He can’t visualize his future which is trans
They bought him an it’s a boy mug 🥺
6x04
Jeff is really supportive of the dean’s sexuality, literally trans
Like Frankie is basically canonically a lesbian or at least queercoded
The dean is canonically queer
Why else would Jeff be there if not for the fact that he’s trans
6x05
Jeff getting mad when someone says he hits like a girl and taking his shirt off
6x06
Jeff is stressed about his emails being leaked —> he got outed?
6x08
Jeff is really proud of his scenes in the movie, he wants the world to see him fully transitioned and how manly he is
6x10
Jeff hoodie trans
He won’t shut up about cars because he wants to seem big and manly
Also in general his halloween costumes are all hypermasc. I think the study group really helped Jeff feel better about his gender identity and really made him feel safe. Thanks for reading!

id like to hear the whitestone andy theory!
I would love to tell you about it, anon.
I’ll preface by saying I haven’t organized my thoughts about this in the slightest, but I’m going to try to make this comprehensible.
The idea is that Whitestone Andy wasn’t really someone Laudna had a “crush” on but was mentioned more to come across as “normal” when the conversation of past relationships came up with the group in 3x09, or as an improv device for Marisha to communicate how Laudna’s life was before her death (the town freak).
This moment can also be read as Laudna attempting to make Imogen more comfortable (which Laudna has been quick to do at her own dispense multiple times.) Laudna freely offers this information after the rest of the group discovers that Imogen has never been on a date, effectively steering the conversation away from Imogen (and saving her from everyone’s attention and probing questions that she’s clearly uncomfortable with.)
I don’t think Laudna is “lying” per se, but it is worth mentioning that she is functionally 50 years old and has never had a romantic relationship and canonically has never been in love (before meeting Imogen, which she states in 3x06). It’s not a stretch to think this may be something Laudna is insecure about and that she could’ve spent time post-Whitestone trying to rationalize the life that was stolen from her and even convince herself that she never would have had those experiences anyway. (Despite Laudna’s radiating positivity, things like When I Grow Up by Fever Ray being on her playlist and the ear cuff conversation in 3x17 seem to tease more and more at something deeper beneath the “open book” Marisha states Laudna to be.)
There are two meta-knowledge things that also made me question the whole Whitestone Andy situation. The first being that Marisha is well known for her extensive note taking and detailed backstories. This situation directly parallels episode 2x118 when Beau discusses HER past relationships. Marisha references her notes during this scene down to having a name chosen for Beau’s first (and only) boyfriend that was never previously mentioned (which she can’t locate but it’s clear that she had it written down at one point). (Sidenote: It’s funny that Sam used the same voice for Whitestone Andy in 3x18 that he used for “Tony” (Beau’s first boyfriend) in 2x118.) When some of the cast is surprised that Marisha would have a name written for this irrelevant part of her backstory, Liam even says “it’s her” and Taliesin says “of course.” Which, yeah, it’s completely in character for Marisha to have fleshed out all these details.
This is why something Marisha says in passing during 3x17 was surprising to me. She tells Travis “nobody was supposed to ask me what his name was” and then “[that was] very made up shit.” (After it’s joked about how poorly thought out the name Whitestone Andy was and I suspect there may be another joke here that’s going over my head but that happens sometimes with CR and I usually chalk it up to that fact that I’m 18 and the cast is in their 30′s and 40′s.) So, it’s unclear here if she’s talking about just the name or the entire story.
Anyway! This became way longer than I expected and may have been very obvious to some people but I’ve been thinking about it a lot because...Laudna. I realize this kind of ended up being the opposite of a theory and more just me saying Whitestone Andy specifically ISN’T significant in terms of lore but more in terms of Laudna’s characterization and the even more obvious fact that CR is improvised and when they say things it just becomes true. To kind of quote Taliesin, “[I’m] saying this is a D&D game.” Marisha’s choices are very often devastatingly intentional, so this storyline has just stuck out to me. Especially as it’s become a running joke with the cast.
TL;DR This mostly devolved into Laudna analysis and talking about Marisha’s past character building. I think Whitestone Andy was mostly a catalyst to a larger discussion about Laudna’s life and the tragedy of what happened to her.
I also have Imogen brainrot thoughts about Sam the stableboy (who, yes, was only mentioned once in episode 10) and the notion of Imogen’s flavor of wanting to be “normal”, but that’s for another time.
