'Raising the Stang'

"From certain branches of the Craft, the stang has arisen to such prominence as to arguably have become a prime cultic emblem of modern traditional witchcraft', in perhaps the way the pentacle or the athame have become emblematic tools of the Wica.

The origins of the stang of the witches, and its point of entry into the Craft cannot be stated with any great certainty, and so will perhaps forever be the subject of mystery and debate. The 'stang', as a witches' ritual 'pole', topped with two or more tines, is of a form recognisable in many 'woodcuts' and other old depictions of witcherie, in which a forked poleobject may be seen employed by witches in various magical or ritual acts.

Numerous forked wooden implements have their varied uses within folk-magical and cunning practice; for ritualistic, divinatory and operative magical purposes.

The stick or staff is anciently depicted in the possession of witches, magicians, Cunning men and Wise women, but it is, however, cognate with wand, and thus traditional magician's hand-tool of both ritual and operative magic; for the conjuring of spirits, the raising and directing of powers, the drawing of magical circles, the banishing of evil and the blasting of wrongdoers.

The stang however, as employed in many branches of the Craft, is not a hand-tool of operative practice, but an item of pure ritual symbolism. Within such usage, the witches' stang is a consecrated hallowed item of power low and and which is stood within the ground, either at the circle's centre, or at its edge. It isfor this reason that some branches of the Craft 'shod' their stang with one or more iron nails to prevent the power within it from draining out into the earth; following the old tradition that spirits and magical power cannot cross a barrier of iron. Iron is itself seen, however, as a potent magical tool which, according to usage and intent, can be used to direct and impart magical influences as well as acting as a barrier to halt them. Thus the act of 'shodding the stang' is made with the appropriate intent, mindful of the directional nail pointing upward into the shaft of the stang, and therefore a barrier to any downward draining flow of power. To do such a thing however to the wand or conjuring stick/staff would not be desirable, for it is its purpose within

many magical workings to allow power to flow through it, or to be directed from it. Whilst both may be forked and share some symbolism, the conjuring stick and stang are quite distinct in their uses.

Foremost, the stang may be said to be an image of the Old Horned One; the tines of the fork of course being cognate with the horns, and an altar of the Mysteries. As a representation of the Old One, it is not merely an image, but a charged vessel, for the power raised and stored within it is that of the Old One himself, and it is at the stang that the manifest presence of the old witch-god is called forth.

In form, the witches' stang is often the traditional pitchfork; with its shaft of ash, that most magical of trees, and topped with two or more tines of iron. This is of course a most fitting representation of the old witch-god, for its hand forged iron-work we may see as evocative of the old blacksmith; the witch-god as Tubal Cain, and the knowledge of the artes of agriculture and husbandry of the land given by the Old One unto man. In magical thought, iron is also a manifestation of the telluric fire, and the stang is also seen in some branches of the Craft as the Old Serpent of the earth, raised and forked of tongue, to pour forth its power unto the circle of the Wise.

The ritual shodding of the stang is an act further emblematic of the old smith,the tradition of the stang as the horse, the fire of creation/gnosis fallen from the heavens and the serpentine telluric fire - thus in the shodding are the worlds above and below united.

As both a representation of the witch-god, and an altar, the stang is often set to stand at the northern edge of the circle; a direction often regarded in 'Old Craft' circles as a portal or gateway to the numinous, spirit presences and the otherworldly. So placed, the stang is representative of the witch-god as keeper of the way between the worlds; the psychopomp guide of the witch going forth, and of otherworldly virtues and presences entering into the circle or arte. As 'the horse' the stang represents the vehicle of power and spirit ingress and egress; the bearer of spirit forces and divine presence, cognate with the lore of the wild hunt and the horse as bearer of the witch god and wild hunter, chasing spirits between the worlds. As a vehicle of spirit, and opener of the ways to the death mysteries, the stang is also the initiatic tree of sacrifice; the tau cross.

Although a prime Craft symbol of the old witch-god, the stang stands in union betwixt the female and male mysteries within those traditions that set female symbols to the left of the stang, such as the cup or horn, and the male symbols to the right such as the iron blade. In union of these dualities, the stang may represent either, or both, the divine androgyne and the divine 'child of light'. The Old One is himself a god of duality; reflected throughout the seasonal cyclic tides of light, and dark, waxing and waning, life and death, via which each of his faces is revealed. Further dualities are brought into union in the stang stood within the ground; heaven and earth, the physical and the spiritual, ‘as above, so below'. The theme of duality and its uniting is potently depicted in the 'horns' of the twain-forked stang, united at the single shaft. Here, at this point of mystic union, the lantern or candle is sometimes affixed; emblematic of the light of 'All wisdom' arising from the realising of 'One Pointedness' or that 'All is One'."

Kryptonian Naming Conventions

[excerpts from the collected writings of journalist Lois Lane on The Superman in PRINT IS DEAD: a History of the Daily Planet]

The Kryptonian language is difficult to translate literally into any earth equivalent, as a single Kryptonian letter takes on a variety of meanings: take the famous “S” symbol, which—depending on spatial positioning—simultaneously represents hope, resurrection, and, well, the letter “S.” Because of this, how a given Kryptonian refers to themselves has been difficult to parse out, especially as even the friendliest and most forthcoming of the species is still immensely secretive in many regards.

Traditionally, it was believed that Kryptonian males had a compound name consisting of their given name, hyphenated with a house name (ex. Kal-El) while females had a given name, followed by their father or closest male relative’s full name as a surname (ex. Kara Zor-El). With the appearance of individuals like Cir-El, Lara Kon-El, historical examples like Lyta-Zod, and personal details from Kal and Kara themselves, the issue of Kryptonian names has been born illuminated and complicated.

Kal’s full traditional name is Kal Jor-El, following what was previously believed to be a formulation reserved for female names. While referring to a Kryptonian male of high social standing with either their house name (El) or full legal name (Kal-El) is perfectly acceptable, to simply use their given name (Kal) suggests a level of familiarity and intimacy reserved for deep familial or romantic connections. Superman’s insistence to being referred to as such started quite a stir in Kandorian High Society during one of his trips there, a woman apparently taking a swing at him when she thought he was trying to romantically proposition her wife in a public forum.

Following this, traditional Kryptonian names can be complicated in several other ways. Continuing with Superman as an example, his name could be extended out a generation to be Kal Jor Seyg-El; this specifies not only his house, but the particular branch and lineage within the House of El. This formulation quickly becomes unwieldy and even traditionalist Kryptonians consider it needlessly archaic. Alternatively, another spelling of Kal’s name is Kal Cor-Vex or Kal-Vex, based on a previous name used by his father, Jor-El having been born under the name Cor-Vex.

The slight difference between Jor and Cor is significant here, as it maintains a level of aural continuity as to ease a child from the name they were referred to in their younger years into the name they will be known as in adulthood. These name changes can occur for a variety of reasons, mostly connected to ideas of honor and social status of the individual parents.

As Nyssa Daron-Vex was of higher standing than Seyg-El when their child was born, Cor-Vex was given a matrilineal house name, with the decision to take on the other parent’s house name made later in life of the child’s own accord. Conversely, Seyg’s older son, Dru-Zod or Dru Lyta-Zod, denied his father’s name and maintained the matrilineal option. All great houses of Krypton’s late period are fairly intermingled—as great houses of dying empires tend to be—but Zod’s decision would and did have far-reaching social and even political ramifications, exemplified in Dru-Zod himself often being referred to as the mononymic “Zod” despite have two sons and other family members who all share that house name.

Interestingly, there seem to be no historical or living examples of a married Kryptonian taking on their partner’s house name as their own. Kal’s mother was Lara-Van (Lara Lor-Van in full) and a recognized head of the House of El, but only ever carried “El” as a sigil and never as part of her name. As the House of Van was technically of higher standing than the House of El by the end of Krypton’s planetary lifespan, it would actually have been advantageous for Kal to take on his matrilineal identity as Kal-Van or Kal Lara-Van. Kal would then simply choose one or the other at adulthood. That Lara believed in the fallen, supposedly “cursed” House of El enough to give her son that name suggests that—against the customs of Kryptonian high society at the time—Jor and Lara were very much in love.

Lara Kon-El, Kal’s daughter and Lara Lor-Van’s granddaughter, represents an interesting variation with a good amount of historical precedent. Transgender, nonbinary, and otherwise gender-nonconforming Kryptonians could, if they wished, take on a new name in traditional and legal capacity basically at will. Lara would be within her legal rights to refer to herself as “Lara Kal-El” or “Lara-El” depending on context, social setting (her sister Cir using Cir-El almost exclusively) but choosing to use her previous given name in place of her father’s name to establish her branch name has particular social connotations.

Kryptonian society is, in some ways, obsessed with the idea of resurrection or rebirth. While this could be attributed to the long period of decline between the collapse of their imperial phase and the physical self-destruction of their planet, the fascination seems to predate either by millennia, back to the Golden Ages of Krypton. Part of the supposed “Curse of El” involved a kind of mystery cult that utilized mysticism and superstition in attempts to revive the dead. Cloning became prevalent for much the same reasons, having major ramifications for Kryptonian society as even great houses began reliant on multiple clone members in their lineage to survive the rapid environmental degradation of their planet and plummeting natural birth rates caused by radiation and other pollutants.

All of that is to say, Lara choosing to give herself a new name amended to her old name—what we might call a dead name as humans—has cultural connotations of Lara claiming an individual identity and branch, resurrecting Kon-El as Lara Kon-El.

Outside of the House of El, there are other interesting outliers. Non was a Kryptonian soldier-deemed-criminal exiled to the Phantom Zone. As not only a felon, but also a foot soldier and clone, Non’s mononymic given name was not a mark of “greatness” as with Zod, but a sort of shaming or othering attempt, a weapon to lessen his personal worth by separating him completely from his house name and any familial lineage or social position that name would afford. Some historical examples exist of individual earning their house name back or being afforded a new one in light of distinguished service or excellence—something Non could choose to be afforded by the house of Zod—but again, it is presented as a personal choice whether one accepts the name or not.

Witch Tools | Cast A Circle

Casting a circle could be used for an altar/ a protection before you start a ritual. Or a Symbol affiliated with Wiccans.

A pentagram is a witches Symbol, meanwhile the inverse symbolises satanism/ or a more in depth symbol for Satanism. The Pentagram is a Star, while a Pentacle is the same with a circle around it. A reminder if it has ‘Cle’ for Cir-cle it makes it easier to remember which symbol is which.

The pentagram represents Earth, Air, Water, Fire on all sides with the Spirit in the middle. North| Earth Top. East | Air Right. South| Fire Bottom. West| Water left.

Pentacle:

A five pointed upright star within a circle. It symbolises white magic and good. The Pentacle is representative of intellect and reason. It also represents the feminine element Earth and is equated with the ability of bringing Spirit to Earth that makes us whole. Oftentimes Pentacles are used as talisman-inanimate objects laced with Psychic powers.

Pentagram:

Pentagram: A five- pointed upright star without the circle. In the later 1800’s Eliphas Levi Wrote, “The Pentagram signifies the domination of the mind over the elements. And the demons of the air, the spirits of fire, the phantoms of water and ghosts of earth are enchained by this sign. Equipped therewith and suitably disposed, you may behold the infinite through the medium of that faculty which is like the souls eye and you will be ministered unto legions of angels and hosts of fiends.”

“Cleanse the area with a ritual broom. Use four candles to mark the elements/points for north east south west. Start north and move clockwise, or create a circle and move your wand/athame clockwise. Use salt to create a circle, or other markers such as flowers, rope, keeping the elemental pointers inside.”

North/Earth: Salt - East/Air: Incense - South/Fire: Candle - West/Water: Water Earth: Agate, calcite, emerald jasper. Malachite, black tourmaline. Air: Adventures, Opal, Tigers eyes, Mica, Topaz, white flourite, turquoise,

Fire: Amber, citrine, chameleon, ruby, Fire Agate, Fire Opal, Sunstone, Water: Aquamarine, coreal, moonstone, pearl, sapphire, selenite.

If you feel a negative energy/entity in the house, you can cast a circle to repel it, while also inviting good spirits to join you. All rituals must be completed in the circle. Do not leave until the ritual is complete.

You do not have to mark out your circle, but you can for ritual purposes, or for protection.

Casting a circle creates a protective high energy space, where you can safety carry out your ritual magic, without the interference of negativity/harmful entities.

You can mark the boundaries of the circle with candles, rocks or crystals along the edges that correspond to each of the cardinal points.

If you’re completing your ceremony and need to close the magic circle, you’ve opened. Simply repeat the same blessing. But rather than asking the guardians to grant you their medicine, thank them for it and bid them farewell.

Releasing the circle allows the energies contained to dissipate and them to return to its pre-ritual state. At the end of the ritual, turn widdershins (Anti-Clockwise) and say, “I open the circle and it now fades away.”

“Circle blessing.”

Guardians of the South, grant me the gift of your Water Medicine, so that it may flow through my soul, and make me whole.

Guardian of the West, grant me the gift of your Earth medicine, so that I may strengthen the growing roots within, to make me whole.

Guardians of the North, grant me the gift of your air energy, so that I may sing to the spirit within, to make me whole.

Guardian of the East, grant me the gift of your fire medicine so that I may sealt the glowing forge within, to make me whole.

Consecrate: Make or Declare sacred. To consecrate something is to make it holy and dedicate it to the service of the divine. This may be done to an area to create a sacred space, a ceremonial tool or offering or a person. To make sacred is to purify and blessing something and charging it with purpose.

My Forget-Me-Not

Things don't always work out the way they're supposed to, and Circuit darn well knows that. As much as he'll spell out his stance as distanced, that's not such an easy feat when faced with such an earnest mech you haven't seen in so long under such volatile circumstances.

“Relax, Cir. It’s just a little scratch!”

Circuit taking in a deep breath to exhale through the vents aside his capped helm as he let the angry red flush from his mood the best he could, cauterizing exabyte’s wires as he laid quite literally more than barely scathed.

That would be more than an over-exaggeration when he’s literally only a torso with one arm and somehow his dumb smile and voice box intact.

“This is literally the worst time for humor, Exabyte. For the love of Primus, please *be quiet*.”

He sounded panicked but perhaps more tight lipped at exabyte’s usual jovial response to something so serious. He never got such a thing, and was even wondering why he was still here in the first place.

It would be fine though, Exabyte could regenerate his body parts but extra help would make it all the more quicker; allowing Circuit with limited knowledge to close the tips of the wires so they stopped leaking bits of energon from the bottom of his chest cavity.

Exabyte never did learn to be quiet, and his uncanny ability to always come back like a cockroach made that sentiment more unbearable in the long run.

His smile stretching his cheek pads that lit up like his red crossed visor and just laid his helm on the ground to let Circuit work, watching him with such a tender emote.

It’s not like he was going anywhere anytime soon but there was also no reason for Circuit to be lingering when he could’ve retreated the moment his autobot squad called to get back to their makeshift base. A ship wouldn’t be back for many cycles to pick them up so they had to make do, Circuit letting off more steam from his vents as he focused and all was good until Exabyte opened his mouth. Again.

“You know I can’t just clamp the ol’ vocal cords to static like that… Besides, I’d be more inclined to ponder why you’re still here when your buddies ran tailpipe once there was an opening.”

Circuit sighed and shook his helm. Exabyte had made this mission hell by making an appearance, no doubt in mind it was to see Circuit. But a decepticon symbol being brandished in front of paranoid trigger happy cybertronians wasn’t such a good idea for most mechs.

Either way it was quick, some autobots got wires in limbs they didn’t fancy losing control of and Exabyte got sliced in multiple areas several times. You win some, you lose some.

Circuit glancing his shadowed bright optics to that grinning face as he grimaced, flicking his gaze back to the task at hand.

“I am still here, because, it wouldn’t be right to let your spark get snuffed out for not even engaging in violence willingly.”

Exabyte laughed, flicking his sharp tongue at him and sticking it out to pull back in a bright smile complimented by rows of sharp teeth.

“I can’t offline, Circuit. Don’t be a negative nanotech now…”

Circuit paused, holding the wires a bit tight as he looked ar Exabyte with a blank expression.

“You and I both don’t know if that’s 100% true.”

Exabyte hissed at the grip but let his smile drop for a moment with a huff as he looked away, laying there as Circuit took that non-response to finish up closing off Exabyte’s wounds. The wires being closed wasn’t too bad, felt like tiny pinches.

The dark decepticon’s only working limb twitching it’s fingers and snaking up to wrap around Circuit and pull him close as he yelped. A growl as he pushed his face away and sat up, allowing the arm to stay instead of being squished by his war hammer in favor as he turned bright red on his grey complexion. Exabyte snickering and watching him from his horizontal position.

“That wasn’t so bad, but I hope you know it’ll take weeks for me to fully recuperate.”

Circuit crossed his arms, antenna crackling at the end as he looked away with such a nasty look.

“Save your callous flirting, Exabyte. I’m only staying with you until you can fend for yourself again.”

They were closed off in a section of some rogue cave, safe from his team and no known fauna to disturb them as Circuit had to come to terms he’d be mostly just here guarding Exabyte while his body naturally regrew.

There was no reason to give Exabyte the time of day in his mind and that confused Circuit more than it ever should, and he hated uncertainly. But for now, he just sat with Exabyte, letting him hold him there and just mind-numbingly listen as exabyte began to ramble to him as he used to do back in the day.

His sitting moved to laying down and he pulled out his security tarp to lay on them for the night to conserve some heat and allow free airflow. The tired autobot’s brain mush from listening to exabyte as the con hauled him close to his limited embrace where it was more comfy, petting his helm with a smile and low vibration of a rumble.

Circuit groaned but didn’t feel much for moving now, laying there to recharge next to the exact mech he wanted to be done with the moment the war peaked.

Earth 489: Supergirl Legacy Redux

Supergirl I - Kara Zor-El/Karen Starr: Kal-El's older paternal cousin, Kara was intended to arrive on Earth at the same time as Kal, but she was stranded in the Phantom Zone after Krypton's explosion knocked her rocket off course. Masquerading as Kal's cousin who was orphaned in a house fire - not entirely far from the truth, if one thinks about it - Kara would soon become the first Supergirl, and would later form the Titans alongside Dick Grayson, Wally West, Garth of Atlantis, Donna Troy, and Roy Harper. However, it didn't take long for Kara to want to distance herself from her now incredibly famous cousin. Altering her costume, removing her house symbol from the chest, and changing her name to Power Girl, Kara reinvented herself entirely. This extended towards her civilian identity, as "Karen Starr" would later found StarrWare Industries, a technological firm dedicated to saving the environment. Karen's attempts to reinvent herself have taken her to many strange places, including the 30th century, where she was a member of the Legion of Superheroes, and the not too distant past, where she and fellow time lost adventurer Huntress - not the same as the current, although Karen has stated that her name is also Helena - were members of the Justice Society.

Supergirl II - Cir-El/Mia Kent: The woman who would become Mia Kent was an unfortunate victim of a disease which rendered her brain dead. Noting her resemblance to Clark Kent and Lois Lane, the Brainiac of this time period kidnapped her and altered her DNA to include both their samples and to gift her Kryptonian abilities. Sending her back in time with false memories of being the daughter of Superman and his wife, Mia was intended to usher in a new era where Brainiac ruled supreme. But it didn't take long for Mia discovered the truth. The artificial Kryptonian sacrificed herself to prevent this terrible future from coming to be, taking Brainiac with her. This would be the last anyone would see of her, or this time period, until the time travelling Rip Hunter would discover her stranded in the time stream and return her to this timeline, where she is once again Supergirl.

Supergirl III - Kara In-Ze/Linda Lee Danvers: The half Daxamite cousin of Kara Zor-El via her mother - unrelated to Kal-El, mind you - Kara In-Ze was living on Daxam with her parents when Krypton exploded, knocking its neighboring planet out of orbit. In order to give her daughter a chance to live, Kara's mother used what remaining resources she could to build a rocket to send Kara out into space, at the cost of her life. ***A new book from Mike Isikoff and Daniel Klaidman admits that a widely misunderstood phone call, on which Willis’ political prosecution rests, was illegally recorded. That means the entire prosecution could crumble with defendants having a new avenue to challenge Democrat lawfare.*** Willis ran on pledges to restore professionalism and sexual ethics to the Fulton County district attorney’s office and to begin to deal with a backlog of 11,000 unindicted homicides, assaults, shootings, and other crimes. Instead, the night before her official first day, word leaked of a recent phone call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. *** Willis hoped that Raffensperger had been in Fulton County for the call, so she could prosecute Trump based on that false understanding of the call.*** However, the person who recorded the phone call wasn’t in Fulton County or even in Georgia. That’s a problem. Jordan Fuchs, a political activist who serves as Raffensperger’s chief of staff, was in Florida, where it is illegal to record a call without all parties to the call consenting to the recording. She neither asked for nor received consent to record. Fuchs was one of the main sources for Isikoff and Klaidman’s book, they admit in their acknowledgments. While they reward her with effusive praise throughout, she comes off very poorly.*** Covering up the Crime This is where the authors of the book admit that the very recording of the call was a crime: Fuchs has never talked publicly about her taping of the phone call; she learned, after the fact, that Florida where she was at the time is one of fifteen states that requires two-party consent for the taping of phone calls. Trump Georgia case

Arthur “Jack” Schubarth, 80, of Vaughn, Montana, is the owner and operator of Sun River Enterprises LLC – also known as Schubarth Ranch – which is a 215-acre alternative livestock ranch in Vaughn. The Schubarth Ranch is engaged in the purchase, sale and breeding of “alternative livestock” such as mountain sheep, mountain goats and various ungulates. The primary market for Schubarth’s livestock is captive hunting operations, also known as shooting preserves or game ranches. According to court documents, Schubarth conspired with at least five other individuals between 2013 and 2021 to create a larger hybrid species of sheep that would garner higher prices from shooting preserves. Schubarth brought parts of the largest sheep in the world, Marco Polo argali sheep (Ovis ammon polii), from Kyrgyzstan into the United States without declaring the importation. Average males can weigh more than 300 pounds with horns that span more than five feet. Marco Polo argali are native to the high elevations of the Pamir region of Central Asia. They are protected internationally by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, domestically by the U.S. Endangered Species Act and are prohibited in the State of Montana to protect native sheep from disease and hybridization. Schubarth sent genetic material from the argali parts to a lab to create cloned embryos. Schubarth then implanted the embryos in ewes on his ranch, resulting in a single, pure genetic male Marco Polo argali that he named “Montana Mountain King” or MMK.

Court documents explain that Schubarth worked with the other unnamed coconspirators to use MMK’s semen to artificially impregnate various other species of ewes – all of which were prohibited in Montana – and create hybrid animals. Their goal was to create a larger and more valuable species of sheep to sell to captive hunting facilities, primarily in Texas. To move the prohibited sheep into and out of Montana, Schubarth and others forged veterinary inspection certificates, falsely claiming that the sheep were legally permitted species. On occasion, Schubarth sold MMK semen directly to sheep breeders in other states.
