Dionysus did not manage to vault himself from the half mortal son of Zeus to a god of the pantheon without learning one very valuable skill.
How to keep his mouth shut.
When news of strange fruits extending the lives of those that at them started circulating, Demeter came to him first. A reasonable assumption, considering all the things he can enchant grapes to do, but the enchantment is different enough from his own powers that he'd managed to convince her he had nothing to do with it.
All of his vines among the mortals had withered. His dryads are sleeping. He can grant the temporary passion of madness to stave off the cold, but that leaves them weaker and hungrier than they were before.
He's tried to move against Demeter, to preserve his own power, to keep the death toll of her grief from destroying the mortal plane.
He's failed.
The only ones that possibly could are Zeus and Hera, but what happens off Olympus isn't their concern. All mortals die, after all.
Plus their own worship hasn't been that badly affected, as king and queen of the gods their blessings and favor reign supreme and the mortals don't dare snub them. If it had been, maybe they'd make more than a token effort of reigning Demeter in.
The only one that has managed to slow the pace of winter is the nameless god known as Prince, who's fruits and gardens and followers unfurl across the icy land like a leaf pushing through the earth to herald in spring.
Dionysus is sorry about Persephone. But forcing spring to die with it's goddess makes no sense. The seasons predate them all and going against the cycles of nature, even as the goddess of it, isn't sustainable or logical or fair.
Not that Demeter has ever claimed to be any of those things.
Dionysus doesn't know if everyone really doesn't know who Prince is, or if they're all playing dumb like he is.
It's not like Demeter could get to him, after all.
He's already dead.

For songs in English/ mostly English: I've been getting into Afropop recently; shu-peru by kizz Daniel has been on repeat! Any recommendations appreciated as I know very little about this genre
Currently reading: morning star by pierce brown. It's the third book in a sci-fi dystopia trilogy that I've been meaning to read for many years now but just now got around to it. It's pretty good!
I'm also reading time to orbit unknown, another sci-fi dystopia. I may have a type. This one's online though! And the world building is amazing!
Currently watching: a league of Nobelman! Was craving a new c-drama to watch and I'd heard good things about this one. Only up to episode 12 but I'm enjoying it so far!
Current favorite character: from the show I'm currently watching? Definitely Zhang Ping. He's got so much naivety and blind hope for justice!
In general though I think my fav character right now is Shen Yuan/ Shen Qingqiu from the scum villain self saving system. He's fun to read about in many situations. Love reading fic from his POV, unreliable narrator my beloved
Current WIP: was working on a piece for my bathroom, but then discovered the amount of effort I'd have to put in for it to be waterproof. So I have yet to decide what to do with it when it's finished. Sigh. It's a little froggy under a mushroom in the rain! Turning out cute so far

Subverted Character Expectations
Viktor was introduced as feeling stifled by Heimerdinger and wanting to make scientific discoveries. “Do you think it was my life’s ambition to be an assistant?” Viktor watched his friend gain popularity, power, and a new relationship, even as Viktor’s own health deteriorated rapidly. Viktor had every right to feel jealous. But he never was.
Mel Medarda was introduced as a master manipulator. She steered the council meeting with a deft hand and openly desired more. Her family legacy of wealth and her desire to match that was one of the first things we learned about her. Honestly, I was ready to stan her as a problematic fave. I thought I knew which pitfalls her character would fall into. But she didn’t! She pursued peace! She was able to selflessly* sponsor him into the highest position in their city, without becoming subsumed into Jayce’s goals. Yet she also had no intention to use him to further her own goals.
*Yes, I said selflessly, because honestly, I don’t know what she gained out of this. I know this is not necessarily the best scenario for Piltover’s citizens or even Jayce himself. But she didn’t do it for herself. I can only assume that because her family dealt in power, that helping Jayce accumulate power was something of a selfless gift from her to the boy she’s crushing on. Because who wouldn’t want power? Certainly not a Medarda.
Professor Heimerdinger was introduced as an archetype of the Old and Wise mentor. But he’s not in tune with the younger generations. He’s no Uncle Iroh or Mr Miyagi, with exactly the right nugget of wisdom for his padawan exactly when they need it most. When he explains his concerns about the arcane, he immediately offers his go-to solution — to wait. And he doesn’t take into account how maddening that feels to humans with a considerably shorter lifespan than him (especially when one of them is terminally ill). Which gets him overthrown in an absolutely believable way.
Silco was introduced as a two-dimentional, cookie-cutter villain in Act 1. His motivations were straightforward — revenge and revolution. But his relationship with Jinx really pulled him into three-dimensional space. Jinx was not just a vehicle through which to see Silco’s nicer tendencies; she was the reason he had any. And his struggle to gain independence for Zaun was that much more interesting when it caused conflict for him due to his valuing Jinx’s wellbeing (or what he saw as her wellbeing).
This is a show based on a video game! I was not expecting it to be even a little good, not to mention THIS good! I was absolutely expecting cookie-cutter characters and a million references to things I would have no way of understanding.

What gets me about the SNL Try Guys video is their ignorance of context.
SNL ... honey ... that video was not for you.
You don't care about the Try Guys, and you don't have to. But that video was made for their fans, for the people who are already invested in them. You don't understand why they're upset about this abuse of power sorry breach of trust sorry "consensual kiss" so instead you made fun of men showing emotions and holding each other accountable.
Look, I know there are worse situations, as you so bluntly pointed out. But that doesn't mean the Try Guys shouldn't have taken it seriously. That doesn't mean that there aren't consequences, that there aren't lives overturned (like the woman whom you dismissively called a Food Baby throughout your video)

Welp you have officially gotten me into batfam fics (via that Jason Todd hallucinations post). I didn't even realize Robin wasn't the dude's name 😅. And there's like three (four?) different ones?!
So thanks ig but also, how in the heck am I going to navigate a fandom with like ten movies, a hundred tv shows, and a million comics??? Send help!
Haha you're welcome, maybe, and welcome to the fandom! Always happy to have one more. Also lol about Robin's name being Robin. 😆 That's not how you secret identity!
Technically there's five; the blonde girl Stephanie who's Batgirl at present was Robin for a hot minute like 16 years ago. (And there's a reddish-brown-haired girl in goggles from an alternate timeline I'm very attached to, but she doesn't Count.)
Which leads into how the trick to navigating this space is accepting that you can't compass all of it, and nobody does, and the people who pretend to are usually being assholes.
You just figure out which parts of canon to learn and/or care about as you go, and build your own machine of optimized pieces.
It can be pretty annoying sometimes because you're sharing 'a fandom' with people who don't actually refer to any of the same canon as you to base their takes on, and you just have to live with that. And sometimes they don't want to let you live with it lmao.
But ultimately, learning tolerance of people who think i.e. the Young Justice cartoon show is the best relationship reference for Dick Grayson and his friends is good practice, and helps when you have to level up to tolerating the people who are Just Objectively Wrong. Which is a vital life skill well beyond fandom!
So honestly in some ways, especially if you're not planning to write fic yourself, it can be more fun to just. Not bother with the canon.
That said, let me see if I can give you some navigation tips.
Elements from popular shows and games, and even more from big films, always percolate both into the comics and the fan interpretations. It's understood a new film will sort of set a tone for the next few years at least.
But at the same time these non-comics properties are recognized as having their own sub-fandoms where they do their own independent things, while 'actual DC comics' are all sort of bundled together in a mass of internal conflict that DC the corporation keeps trying to disambiguate and making more confusing somehow.
The wikis are an essential reference but can be deeply frustrating because a lot of the people who work on them try to keep them 'up to date' by trying to edit them to keep up with every retcon and make long-running characters' lives sound like things that could really have happened to one person, which limits the interpretive scope of the fan trying to rely on the wiki page as a launch point to dig into a subject or check their work.
Generally, the oldest and the most recent pieces of canon data on a subject where there's conflict are considered to have the highest...realness status, unless one of the intervening versions is just vastly the most popular.
A lot of people's favorite Batman is the one from the 1990s Batman the Animated Series, for example, so anything that's not compatible with his character core as shown there gets thrown out when they're customizing.
But basically you can choose to believe anything you want. It's more fun for most of us to believe things on the basis of it having appeared in print, and being able to pull a citation generally gets you more clout, but this is not required. We're at a sufficiently high level of build-your-own-canon that a sufficiently cogent headcanon is basically at the same level of ontological power as anything that only happened once.
So do whatever you want, pretty much! Superheroes!

Hey, feel free to ignore this, but I'd love to hear your grievances against Bridgerton? I saw some of the fashion posts you rbed, but I'm especially intrigued by the "fails on all aspects" parts? Thanks!
Hi there,
There is honestly so much that could be said and analysed in finer points but the short version of it is just that it is a bad story wrapped in the glitz of high production value but surprisingly little good technical execution despite all the money shoveled at it. Bridgerton is the type of show where the petty, mean side of me would delight in a detailed and cutthroat list of all of its flaws but for which I do not care enough to be actually invested in hating it. It’s just a thing to be puzzled and petty about: people think Bridgerton is good. Wild.
Now let me first say that I have no inherent problems with anachronistic creative choices, or the idea of a contemporary take on period dramas. After all, all period dramas are inevitably told through a contemporary lens, to different degrees. It’s also not like they were the first big production to do it either: has everyone just forgot about The Great Gatsby? or tumblr’s favourite Hamilton? I honestly think this kind of mixing already has so many cool outcomes when it comes to music (like this, this or this and this), I do believe we could get something really interesting out of creative anachronism in mainstream visual media. I’m also more forgiving with newer forms of experimentation, because sometimes new ideas need to be worked out before they reach their full potential. But the way Bridgerton does it.... so clearly lacks a clear creative vision and dedication to the concept imo that it makes it harder to excuse the ways it fails since the failures seem to originate from that lack of vision and dedication to storytelling. For instance, there is seemingly no logic as to when the diegetic music will be an instrumental cover of a contemporary song or not--which does not even broach the topic of how bad those ‘classical music’ arrangements for modern songs were? Honestly embarrassing how lazy those arrangements were: hire a good composer (or any at all), you cowards. And then the costumes... once again, a lack of internal logic seems to permeate the choices presented in addition to a lack of care in its execution: so many of the dresses are ill-fitted, the characterisation through the outfits were all over the place (like the mom who wore a silhouette that no one else wore and had no basis in any fashion of the era) and so many of the fabrics/jewellery looked the opposite of expensive (kind of looked like a lot of it was polyester and plastic tbh), which is sort of a problem when you are trying to sell the fantasy of "The lives of the rich and famous but make it regency” imo although I suppose a portion of the audience just doesn’t notice lmao. Honestly I find that a lot of ‘costume historians’ who made video essays on Bridgerton were too nice with the show, perhaps in order not to come off as seeming to hate the costumes on the basis of them not being historically accurate, and as a result were way too forgiving imo. And this lack of real creative vision is also something we see in the cinematography and direction which.... seems often confused about the way it wants to make things feel fantastical and ends up dropping the ball on the execution of these meant-to-be extravagant or over-the-top shots.
But, again, the cinematography is just... middling at best, made only worse by the editing which is just plain bad. I guess you’ll have to just take me on my word on this because I am not willing to do an autopsy of all I find off about it, but lord jesus mary and joseph it was painful to watch at certain moments.
Bridgerton is not the first show to do colourblind casting, although I’d say it deserves recognition for fucking it up for no reason at all. Like, sure there are criticisms to be had about how it remains still a very white story that falls into certain tropes wrt darker skin characters or the glaring lack of south asian representation considering what the contemporary UK looks like, etc. but what I’m gesturing at is the totally unnecessary but mind-boggling “royal love solved racism” twist we get in the, what, fourth episode? (Broey Deschannel covered the topic quite well imo) The audience would have accepted that there were no in-world explanation for the colourblind version of the already-made fantastical regency that had them dancing to Ariana Grande songs. The colourblindness, racism-free society would have just been another aspirational aspect. They literally did not need to do this.
Honestly I don’t feel like I need to get into why the story itself is not very good or well-executed since it feels very obvious. I won’t begrudge on principle the show for using well-worn tropes and common-to-the-point-of-farce character archetypes, but I have to object to the way it uses them and in the service of what story. And not to make myself in a plot-hole-ding kind of person-who-has-thoughts-about-media, but this is not a story that holds up well to scrutiny or logic, let’s say. And any type of social or political commentary it tried to include was dumb to the point of farce: the Feminist Character Who Wants to Read not Go Dance was just.... a masterclass in bad, embarrassing writing. I am surprised at how unlikeable and boring the vast majority of the characters were, but perhaps less surprised at how a series that planned on having multiple seasons already sold the twist of Lady Whistleblow’s identity at the end of the first season, for what seemed to be no narrative reason at all. That being said, I have to give credit where it’s due and acknowledge that there is a skill in being able to produce stories that get extremely popular and well-loved.
(Do I need to mention the performances? So many underwhelming or embarrassing performances. It’s hard to tell sometimes whether it’s the actors themselves or the directing that’s the issue, or a mixture of both, but.... oof).
I guess in the end Bridgerton’s biggest transgression is it sits for me in the uncomfortable middle where it is neither trashy or campy fun nor is it an interesting work of fiction. Differently put, it is simply neither good nor fun.

Hey, would you mind explaining a bit more about the 'Dean is neurotic about the kitchen' thing? I saw it in a fic or two, but didn't get how it tied into his psyche? I would love to hear your thoughts about it 💖
for me it’s like. i think dean is just generally neurotic? he needs things to be correct and just-so. add this to how excited he is to finally have a home, and his whole i-want-to-be-someone-to-come-home-to thing, and it makes perfect sense. like, the things that i think of with this are dean getting mad at sam for making a mess in his room in season eight, and the michael fantasy world where dean owns a bar in season fourteen. like, we know that dean is the cook in that bunker - the kitchen is his space. and we know that he’s picky about his space. and we know that the kitchen would be especially important to him because food is a method of showing affection and making a home.

ANYWAYS ill rant about the au more another time if y’all want but what GOT me was uptight Neji x kiba who literally doesn’t give a fuck about anything ever, and Neji pretending he’s not interested in kiba when he clearly IS, while simultaneously being jealous of kiba for being so outwardly comfortable with himself
Like honestly???? The dynamic is hate sex all the time. Neji says Kiba is loud and stupid and not funny but secretly wants to be around him. Kiba says Neji is just an uptight rich kid but likes the company when Neji’s over. Neji’s smart, he’s actually sort of funny, and probably has a 12 step skin care routine that makes him totally hot (bonus)

Other people are learning about Zagreus.
Not that they know it's him, of course. He goes by the moniker prince.
Just enough to direct prayers and pay tributes, but a nameless god standing against Demeter? It's enough to send the whole pantheon in an uproar.
It's enough to send Demeter to heights of rage that Artemis previously thought her incapable of reaching.
There are gardens that her frost can't touch. Fruit she she has no hand in growing.
There are people who will not submit and die as she wishes it, blaming mortals for her daughter's death and so making them pay the price for a lost goddess.
Not even Zeus has rained destruction upon the mortals like Demeter had and not even Zeus can stop her.
It's too much. Too much taken, too much suffering.
Persephone was a sweet girl. But her loss is not worth the life of every mortal upon the earth.
Artemis is with Aphrodite, both of them having been evoked powerfully enough to send shivers down their spine. She leans against her spear and tried to think of any other way to fix this.
It's a town on the edge of collapse, a thick forest between them and the rest of civilization. In spring the journey is long but easy enough, but it hasn't been spring for a long time.
There's no game to hunt. Loved ones are dying. They beg and beg to any god that will listen but while every god can hear them no god can save them.
None but one.
But how would they know? This far out, there only contact is other isolated villages too deep in the world.
"I'm tired," Aphrodite whispers, knees pulled to her chest, something about her coltish in her helplessness.
Artemis has never tried this. She doesn't even know if it will work. But he won't ever find his way here on his own. "Can you keep a secret, Aphrodite?"
She shifts her head enough to look at her with a single garnet eye. "What secret do you have, sister mine?"
"Aphrodite," she says warningly.
She huffs, amusement aging her. "Yes, yes, my silence or my life. What is it?"
Artemis hopes she doesn't regret this. She hopes it works. "Prince Zagreus!"
"What's Zag going to do?" Aphrodite blinks. "He can't even-"
She cuts herself off and Artemis knows she's thinking through the first part, coming to the obvious conclusion and rejecting it out of hand.
"Artemis?"
They both turn and Zagreus is standing there. Not as image or projection like he was the last time they met face to face, but solidly beside her in the flesh.
He grimaces in pain and raises a hand to his side before straightening and forcing his arm down. Whatever it is that keeps him in his father's realm still has some hold on him, it seems.
"I'm kind of in the middle of something," he says. There's blood on his teeth. There wasn't any a couple seconds ago. "Oh, hi Aphrodite. Er. Please don't tell anyone."
"It's you?" Aphrodite demands. "You?"
"I am me," he agrees.
Artemis would beat him if they had the time for it. "Can you help them? This village will die. Word of you hasn't reached them and your temples are too far to travel too even if they had."
He grins it's all red. His blood drips down his chin. "It's not going to be pretty."
Artemis has never thought about how exactly the god of life and blood spreads his blessings. She thinks she's regretting that now.
"Pretty's my domain anyway," Aphrodite snaps. "Help them."
Zagreus moves too quickly for Artemis to stop. He grabs her spear and slices down his chest and then there's blood everywhere, pouring out of him, more than should be in any one body.
Aphrodite screams and Artemis wrenches the spear away, horrified. "This is celestial silver! You can't - even gods can't heal from it!"
"Death heals all wounds," he says and there's blood down his chin, spilling out his mouth with his every breath.
Then he's running.
They talk off after him and it's easy to follow his trail, the deluge blood and smell of copper filling her nose as they chase him.
Zagreus is mad. When she wasn't looking he went insane and now she's killed him.
They have to slow him down, have to get him to Hermes. It should be easy, they're goddesses and he's dying, but he stays fast enough to stay just out of their grasps.
He's lose a body's worth of blood a dozen times over and yet still more flows.
He finally trips and falls, giving gurgling breathes.
"Zagreus!" she shouts as she and Aphrodite fall into the snow beside him. "Zagreus, hold on, it's going to be okay."
He laughs and pats her cheek. He's too pale. "Relax. I die all the time."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Aphrodite demands, trying to put her hands over the wound but it's too long to stem.
Zagreus doesn't answer.
His body goes slack and it takes Artemis several seconds to realize the person screaming is her.
Aphrodite is sitting there shell shocked and bewildered and then Zagreus's body sinks into the earth, not even reacting to Artemis's attempts to hold on.
"Oh."
She looks up and Aphrodite is looking behind them. Artemis slowly follows her gaze.
Every place blood touched the ground, there now grows bushes of bright purple berries, more vibrant than any fruit she's seen grow that shade. They grow thick and fat on every branch and if there anything like the other food in Prince's gardens, it will keep them alive and they'll be able to grow more themselves.
If they're willing to sacrifice the blood.
The next time Artemis sees Zagreus, she's going to kill him.

Wait, the "both JZX and JC lost their besties at the same time for basically same reason" tag? Please extrapolate! I'm having trouble connecting those dots 😅
Wei Wuxian takes off and leaves Jiang Cheng to save the Wens both because it was the right thing to do, and also because Wen Ning and Wen Qing did him a solid one time right after Jiaojiao tried to maim him.
MianMian takes off and leaves Zixuan after defending Wei Wuxian, both because it was the right thing to do, and also because Wei Wuxian did her a solid one time while Jiaojiao was trying to brand her.
I think the morals of the story are that exposure to Jiaojiao can be a really intense bonding experience, and also that sometimes you’re a lonely prince with limited social skills but you have this one person who’s really great and you look up to them and rely on them but one day Jin Guangyao and Jin Guangshan team up to semi-inadvertently force them to choose between you and justice and they do not pick you.

K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?
answered here, but sure, we’ll do another! I’m going to approach it sideways, because if i really go straight to best or favorite, it’s always very predictable. so I’m going to go with a couple characters whose developments I love, but maybe aren’t the expected choice: wen ning, jin ling, and ouyang zizhen.
wen ning and jin ling for actually very similar reasons: our very first introduction to both of them is quite at odds with their actual characters--wen ning shows up as the terrifying ghost general, undead, vicious, frightening, awe-inspiring. we learn about him both from wei wuxian’s “wen ning? isn’t wen ning already dead?” and the screams of terror from the surrounding cultivators, from Jiang Cheng’s rage--and then you really meet him, and he’s really just. a very sweet young man who happens to have been turned into a weapon.
it’s also like--the moment when he turns into the ghost general, when wei wuxian says, “he was such a timid person in life, the more timid the person, the deeper their wells of rage�� (paraphrasing, obviously, i don’t remember the exact wording), and that like. that really gets to me! we never really see it again, but the idea that wen ning actually harbors a deep and violent rage is. A Lot! do i identify? yes lmfao but it also doesn’t change who he is: he’s still kind, he’s still timid, and he still holds a lot of love. UGH. i love wen ning. okay anyways.
jin ling: when we meet him, he’s SO ANNOYING. he’s like! the arrogant asshole bully! we love to see him get his comeuppance! we’re already connecting him with mo ziyuan, with the privileged, cruel, rich kids that feel like they can get away with anything because no one has ever told them no! and then--we realize. and the more time we spend with him, the more we understand where that attitude comes from and how he expresses care and value, and you’re suddenly like oh,,,, my god,,,, ;A; i would die for u jin ling!!! i would die for u!!!!! (fyi, my therapist thinks jin ling is one of the most fascinating characters in mdzs, and he’s got a point!!!) i just. i don’t know! I love that! I love being proven wrong! I love being convinced on characters until im ride or die!! and mdzs does that several times! it’s so good!!
and goodest boy, ouyang zizhen: what I love about him most is honestly like, his purpose as a narrative and thematic device when contrasted with his father. ouyang zizhen is just! such a sweet and kind teenager! sentimental, romantic, just!! likes!!! girls!!!! loves his dad! when he charges into the fray at the second siege like, “dad!! i’ll protect you!!” and his father is so, so afraid that he’s going to lose his son right then?? i don’t know, that moves me because like, sect leader ouyang participated in the murder of the wen remnants, people who were family to someone, who were beloved by someone (in fact, of wen ning, wei wuxian, and lan sizhui, all of whom are present) but he’s not heartless. he’s a person who loves his son, even though he really did do some woof, pretty shitty things in the past. he is not wholly a monster. and his son! his son is good! his son wants to do good! his son is such an encapsulation of like, what a child could grow up to be when not coming of age through trauma. I wrote about it in my longass cql vs mdzs meta here and also my meta on suibian and zidian, but BASICALLY. it matters so much to me that sect leader ouyang raised a young man like ouyang zizhen, and that they love each other, that they’re human, even despite the chilling things we know about sect leader ouyang’s past.
WELL this got kinda long, but HEY. look. why are u following me if not for my sudden, unexpected descents into emotional yelling about side characters!!
and thank you :’) 💛 it’s probably a good idea for me to take a step back sometimes and remember that actually, I have a great time here! but I think I usually refrain from talking about certain things that are actually enormously frustrating in this fandom, and sometimes, the truth is come out: i too, am filled with deep wells of rage.

I have definitely rambled about Itachi and Jane at least once each in fact and I am. Staggered and on the floor laughing about Itachi being in this lineup because. Because you're not wrong????? You're. Not wrong. He is that Type. He is! You are correct.
But also he. He very much killed his entire family. 😂 I mean, okay, he participated and took the blame. Still.
Imagining Jane Bennett in a circumstance where she stabs Mr. and Mrs. Bennett to death in order to protect Elizabeth, Mary, Lydia, and Kitty from the government. I'm doing that now. That is my current occupation.

This is totally reinforcing my Be On Tumblr Too Much patterns lmao.
I do want to go off about Jiang Yanli a bit at some point because like. Her actress in the drama did such a good job but she's a systematically under-written character, a bit, and I've seen a good bit of work done in the fandom to cover the many ways she is, could, or should be epic and imposing within the bounds of her nature, so I want at some point to sit down in that sandbox with a big bucket of water and dig into the ways she is covertly a disaster person like everyone else in the book in general and her family in particular.
Because you can admire someone for the graceful way she manages her Eldest Daughter Syndrome all you want but dang it I have been that idiot who makes everything worse by walking into the middle of the shitstorm trying to patch her own feelings and sense of worth together by Helping The Younger Ones. That's genuine disaster energy!
That compulsion to make soup and peace doesn't come from a deep well of serenity, this is a reaction pattern rooted in need. Yanli also has mental health problems as a result of her parents' whole deal and I think that's very stylish of her actually.
Points to her for a like, relatable and human Getting Dead For Backstory motive, even if it's largely implicit.
Would love to see her kick her own ass for being a bad example to Wei Wuxian of How To Be A Good Person--not that I'm blaming her I just think it would be really interesting if she blamed herself, for encouraging the self-destructive end of people-pleasing.
But also I think she gets too much credit for self-awareness sometimes, no one with that much conflict-avoidance behavior is going to consistently face the uncomfortable parts of her own motives or the flaws of her attachment objects, so it would be a little tricky to set up without like, resurrecting her in the aftermath of wwx's slaughter meltdown and death. Hmm. Little dark.
...use the sacrificial array, put her in an unsuitable body. Oh no Jiang Cheng please do not. The fucking irony of Jiang Yanli running around in Jiang Cheng's body with Wei Wuxian's golden core tho????
I do like that per Phoenix Mountain incident we know that her conflict avoidance is something she can set aside in favor of weaponizing her own no-chill chill, and it's interesting to contemplate the ways this might generalize.
She and Lan Xichen are both weak to their families, in certain ways, and both appear primarily in the context of these families (+their respective Jins) but their spheres of responsibility are so different that it seems almost mean-spirited to compare them.
