New to the Job – Stand Out Positively in 3 Ways
You’re new to the job, and you want to make a good impression. It’s important to make a positive impression in your new position. Here are three (3) actions to take to stand out positively. First, be sure to show up on time and prepared for your shifts. This means having all the necessary equipment and being ready to work when your shift starts. Friendship as a Force Multiplier
I wrote a preface (read: rant) about this but I want the methods below to stand on their own. Feel free to read it. Or not. I'm not a cop.
The below terms are meant to be ways that you can help others or ask for help from others with increasing productivity. These are execution skills as in they allow you to execute on tasks and get shit done. Skills; not crutches, not cheats or hacks, and not anything else which you might feel ashamed of. People want to help you and you probably want to help people get more done so let's build these skills together.
Task Activation
Sitting down with someone for 5-10 minutes to help one of you focus on a task long enough to build momentum or "flow state". Go to a designated workspace together, clear and otherwise prepare said workspace, pull out/open the tool of choice for this task, talk about the goals of the current big thing, start working for 5 minutes. Task Activation complete! The helper can go back to whatever they were doing. The tasker can either continue working if the activation has put them in flow state or they can go back to the drawing board because there may be unforeseen roadblocks or this may just have been the wrong day to do work or the wrong task to work on. Cost of this Task Activation? 5-10 minutes from 2 people and hanging out with a cool person. Cost of trying again if the first activation failed? The exact same.
Rubber Ducking
An intimate (/s) roleplay experience where one person plays the role of an expert trying to suss out a path through a complicated problem and the other person roleplays an inanimate object. Maybe the first player drops the mask and steps away to search for something on the internet because they need more expertise than they're ready to act out. Maybe the second player breaks character by asking helpful questions to set the first player back on track through their musings. Or maybe the forget that rubber ducks can't play Pokemon on their Switch while someone is talking at them. This is a safe space, there are no judgements if everyone's having a good time.
Body Doubling
Very similar to Rubber Ducking but with structure and tomato shaped egg timers. And less talking. Read up on the Pomodoro Technique if you're not familiar. One person (at least) gathers one other person (at least) to sit in a room with a timer and strict expectations about how long productivity periods and break periods last. I like 25 minutes of working and 10 minutes of break. Don't let productivity spill into breaks. Don't forget to keep planning your tasks and future working cycles. Don't shame anyone for playing Pokemon on their Switch during productivity cycles - rest can be productive, too. Avoid disturbing other people during productivity periods except with time checks, cries of victory, or reminders to not beat heads against walls or keyboards. Task Activation can lead into Body Doubling. Body Doubling can be paused for Rubber Ducking. All bodies involved should be breathing.
Paired Productivity
This is just Pair Programming but with a conjugation and more generalized activity term change. Two people enter (a prepared and organized workspace), they have a task or two which they've both agreed to work on, one has the tools to perform the task, the other has a device which can search the internet, they do work, two people leave. Tomato shaped egg timers are encouraged. Rubber Ducking may occur. One person attempts to do the task while discussing the steps, actions, and open questions with the other. The other person checks work, researches particularly difficult questions, and does not touch the tool for this task. Trading roles at predetermined times is fine. I recommend that the more experienced person give the less experienced person more time working with the tool. Take breaks if either the task or other person wears you out.
Task Dump
Giving someone a pen and paper and making them write out every worry, chore, deliverable, past due library book, and passion project idea they have until they start remembering missed homework assignments from the last school they graduated from. Alternatively: be the person who has a pen and paper thrust upon them. Getting Things Done (this is a book and paid coaching program but the link gives a good synopsis) teaches that the worst place to store information and to-dos is your brain. We forget things and we worry about forgetting things. We feel pressure when tasks are a cloud of associations and worries about missed deadline repercussions or would've, could've, should'ves for how our life might have been if we'd done this important task yesterday instead of playing Pokemon on our Switch. We must always forgive our past selves, accept our present selves, and be kind to our future selves. Once a task is on that list it's a future item and past us is off the hook. Having everything listed in front of us helps us figure out and accept the current state of the world. Determining next steps gives our future self the best chance of being proud of themself for accomplishing cool and important stuff. It's hard to say what to do with the big list of tasks from your brain once you have it. This isn't a planning or project management guide and I haven't written one (yet). It's up to you what you do with the list but I guarantee that you'll be in a healthier place when you can see everything on paper instead of listening to the tasks and worries buzz angrily around your head. Here's some suggestions to get you started:
Separate the hastily scrawled list into several lists based on themes:
work
hobbies
errands
passion projects
gifts for the wonderful friend helping you with this
Stack rank things based on a combination of urgency and importance:
Capture the bug which just landed on the corner of your desk?
High urgency (it's gonna fly away!)
Low importance (unless you eat bugs?)
Figuring out where to send humanity in the cosmos when our sun inevitably expands?
Very high importance (we need to live somewhere not inside the sun)
Very low urgency (we hope...)
Figuring out what you're going to eat for your next meal?
Medium-high importance (don't forget to eat!)
Medium-high urgency (you've forgotten to eat while reading this post, haven't you?)
Do this one!
My main suggestion is just to learn to do this Task Dump regularly. This is a tool which you can use in response to "oh no, my head is full of things to do and I don't like it!" You can cross things off the old list or add them to another system but at the end of the day writing things down helps. Keep your old lists around and rewrite them but skip things which are done or that you've decided you don't need to worry about anymore. Add new things. Observing and measuring your task load like this will eventually get you taking on more manageable loads and prioritizing things (with your Task Dump buddy) and feeling really accomplished.
Kind Interrupt
This is not a planned event. If you see someone you care about is hyper fixating on something but making no progress because they're just spinning their wheels and banging their head against a wall then there's actions you can take to help. Breaks are important so you want them to step away at least for a little bit. It's important to be careful not to force someone away from something that they're stuck on, though. You also want to avoid guilting them; they probably already know if they're running late or not making a lot of progress. Try replacements and simple choices: "Would you like to go for a walk or would you rather get a snack and something to drink with me?" Don't shy away from sharing your needs, though. If you need this person to do something else for you then don't shy away from that. Focus on the help, "Can you help me get ready to go?" or "Can I get your help with this task?" Helping people is stimulating and you shouldn't underestimate how much people in your life want to help you.
This list was originally 5 skills until my "15 minute blogpost" became 3 hours and my wives had to rescue me to work on other things.
That's it for now. Read this with someone who you want to unblock or who you know is willing to help unblock you. Become force multipliers together. Keep this in your back pocket for a bad executive function day. Steal it for your own blogpost or website but please give credit to the trans and ungovernable catgirl, Lexi Micham. Have a nice day!

what they don't tell you about having posts blow up is people will compete for the opportunity to be The One who adds something onto it in the hopes that it will become The Definitive Version of the post that goes around. this can range anywhere from pointless but harmless commentary to annoying garbage that's an active diversion from the point you were trying to make

Yesterday, Bob Schooley (one of the showrunners for Big Hero 6: The Series and a staple at DTVA for 33 [EDIT because LUL I can’t count] years) announced on Twitter that his time working at Disney was at an end.
The tweet (which was deleted and then reuploaded for reasons unknown) comes at an interesting time, as Disney announced a few days ago that they would be cutting about 4,000 employees in April.
Now, obviously this is one of those things that you don’t want to make a conspiracy over (unlike everything that I theorize about BH6 on this page).  It’s currently unknown whether his leaving is the result of the layoffs, retirement, or something else entirely.  It’s also not know of what will become of Mark McCorkle (fellow EP on BH6 and Kim Possible).  Nick Filippi, the third EP on the show, is currently a Supervising Director at Nickelodeon Studios.  Neither Nick or Mark (or Bob, for that matter) tweet or are on social media that much.
Regardless, the man has had a great career at Disney (and career overall), and I speak for everyone in the Big Hero 6 fandom when we wish him the best of luck in whatever he decides to do next!

the older i get and more in the corporate world i get (girl boss jk kill me) the more im convinced that most things should just shut down between mid december and early january. like nothing gets done. even when things do get done, are they getting done well? unlikely because half of the office is gone with scheduled pto. just shut down your offices and let people snooze and rest for next year.
and people who are not in corporate world - people working retail/restaurants and healthcare and etc. should get 1) actual paid time off, i worked retail before, y'all are champions and deserve a break and consistent scheduling 2) more paid time off bc not only are you guys literally unable to ever work remote due to the nature of the jobs but you have to work during the times everyone else relaxes and you have to work just as intensely if not more so than normal.
also if not this can we at least make a 32 hour and/or 4 day work week the norm (with no reduction in salary/pay) across businesses thankssssss

Now that the season is over and everyone is released from the constraints of the bake off tent, things need to be discussed.
The final highlighted an epidemic within bake off that has honestly been growing ever since it moved out of the BBC.
Which is that bakers are never given enough time to complete the tasks set for each challenge.
Challenges get ridiculous and more difficult year after year as if they are trying to one-up the year before (which is not what bake off is about).
The judges have become very subjective in their judgments. It is very biased and not at all fair and cohesive.
The hosting has felt very stagnant and the hosts (mainly Matt Lucas) fail to deliver on their entire purpose which is to uplift the spirits of the bakers. The hosts help set the entire tone of the show for the bakers themselves apart from when their bakes are being judged by Paul and Prue. Their “comedy” and their dialogue has really fallen flat and so instead of being lighthearted, they contribute to making the atmosphere even more stressed and tense.
This is not a professional baking competition. This is not Masterchef 2.0. This should be a celebration of home bakers. And its veering further and further from that core purpose.
Everything essential to home baking which is flavor and flavor only is being overshadowed by all of these other criteria. They are being judged on creating dishes that they have never made before and will never replicate in a million years at home.
What value is this serving?
You are not teaching them any valuable skills to take home and use with their families - simple things they can make in a short period of time that will taste delicious.
Instructions for the technical never include essential information and the judges just expect them to know all of these niche details- completely forgetting that they are all AMATEUR BAKERS who bake at HOME and who have busy lives.
Baking is their hobby, it is a love language, it is not their career.
It is increasingly evident that Bake Off is setting up their contestants to fail and purposefully creating situations that bring out the bakers’ stress and anxiety.
I don’t watch bake off to see people fall apart over cake. I find no enjoyment in watching them struggle.
Bake Off has remained special to me because of the atmosphere between the bakers. The baker community.
I love it for the fact that the bakers are never competing against each other truly and help each other out at any given moment. The warm cozy vibes.
That spirit is not found in any other baking show. Period. It is unique and so precious.
But that spirit is being overshadowed by the rotten framework of this new Bake Off.
There needs to be a fundamental restructuring of Bake Off before it loses everything that makes it special.

Hello there! Your jjk fix it au is a really interesting idea! Is it ok for you to tell how and why mahito became an assisted duo with shoko?
For sure! I haven't written or made any other notes on it so I'm just working from a loose idea. If someone wants to write or draw it out, go for it I suppose. (It got long, full text under the cut 😅. Tl;dr is Shibuya Incident goes not as bad as canon, Gojo snags Kenjaku and Mahito for some harebrained experiment to fix Geto and bring him back, Shoko is stuck working with Mahito because she's apparently the school's only medic. Things go better than expected.)
I'd have to re-watch the episodes to get the exact order of events but basically the AU begins around the start of the Shibuya Incident arc: the students and other sorcerers manage to catch up to Gojo and not-Geto in time to keep their teacher from being sealed. Instead, the school team is able to turn things around on the curse gang.
I imagined the turning point is that Yuji and possibly others manage to reach the station in the moments before the Prison Realm actually grabs Gojo, leaving it out in the open to be swiped and repurposed. Freed of his momentary distraction, Gojo does some quick mental math on the situation: his friend's body has been stolen - but his soul seems to be intact, the Prison Realm is within reach, as is the cursed spirit with a technique that can manipulate the body via its soul. He can work with this.
So whoever is there (probably Gojo, Yuji, and Todo?) take advantage of the stunning effect of Gojo's domain and the Prison Realm to get Kenny boxed up and grab Mahito while he's incapacitated (probably literally, since Gojo could probably safely 'touch' him with Infinity running), and drag the both of them back to the school for safekeeping.
Gojo's harebrained scheme is to surgically extract Kenjaku and use Mahito's ability to grow a working brain back into Geto's body. It's weird, but it's no worse than having to kill him all over again. Unfortunately to do this he needs to have Mahito's cooperation, which he initially does not. After some negotiation, Gojo enters into a pact with Mahito for his assistance; roughly a "Help us or we kill you" arrangement, since the school staff can guess that not-Geto was almost certainly planning to eat Mahito anyway.
Since Mahito's technique has extensive medical application, he ends up working alongside Shoko for the next little while. With supervision from Gojo at first, to ensure he behaves and to check up on Geto regularly. But the aftermath of the Shibuya Incident still needs attention so Gojo finds himself drawn away more often than not, leaving Shoko alone to deal with Mahito's shenanigans and care for a recovering Geto. Thankfully Shoko has enough experience dealing with annoying teenage boys (and Gojo) that she knows how to handle Mahito's childish temperament. She's the right mix of no-nonsense and easygoing to handle him and they eventually form a more cooperative working relationship. I imagine Mahito is one of those "problem children" that would thrive with clear instruction and strong boundaries. He'd be a good worker, he just needs someone to keep him in line.
If I do end up writing this in some capacity, my impulse right now is to make it 50% heavy SatoSugu angst, as Geto recovers in the care of his mortal enemies and the one person who never gave up on him; and 50% office comedy with Shoko and Mahito getting acclimated to one another and taking care of Geto and the rest of the cast as they heal up from the incident.

I keep thinking about how Slappy is green in the patrick show and yellow in the main series. That's not really an unusual thing since side characters change colors often in this show (Perch Perkins is a good example) but I'd rather imagine the color change is a result of him dying between the events of the two shows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However the only time you ever see him in green in the main series is in the episode There Will Be Grease where he asks if everything juice will make his voice sound more creepy.
Tumblr media
Imagine if he just straight up died from drinking everything juice. Mr. Krabs and Plankton possibly going to jail for killing someone with their phoney product but are saved last minute because Slappy rose from the dead and was absolutely overjoyed by the product. It gave him EXACTLY what he wanted! It made him much more creepy. So the customer's happy (probably the only one happy) and Mr. Krabs and Plankton won't be put on trial for murder! It's a win win! :D

"cleopatra movie starring zendaya as cleopatra and timothee chalamet as octavian" i was having a good day and now i have an anger headache
#personal#i like zendaya and chalamet as actors and they have good chemistry#and i'm honestly fine with anything that focuses on the relationship cleopatra and octavian had with each other specifically#i think it's underdiscussed and a great source of drama and narrative storytelling#but not like this#for one i will say it until i'm blue in the face: cleopatra was white as bread. palest woman to have ever lived in egypt.#you know what with the THREE CENTURIES OF ONE GREEK FAMILY INBREEDING OVER AND OVER THAT LED TO HER CONCEPTION#for two: why are octavian and cleopatra gonna be the same age she was a decade older than him#that's important!#she was an adult in a relationship with his great-uncle when they first met in rome and HE was a teenager barely a year into adulthood#(by roman standards)#like she can't be his age and have a relationship with caesar#and even more importantly him being younger is probably a key part in why she might have underestimated him#along with listening to antony but that man was just stupid#it's a recurring theme in octavian's early career: the people around him were older and because he was young he wasn't taken seriously#until he was at their doorstep burning down their house and killing everyone they knew and by then it was too late#i cannot believe hollywood is apparently finding it hard to cast a white woman who can play midtwenties to early forties!!!#denis i know you like these two but pls just executive produce and give the project over to me and let me overhaul it#(where i then scrap the cleopatra focus and make it either a three way show focusing on cleopatra octavian and herod)#(or i just get to make the octavian biopic show i've had in my head for like two years)
