I’ve been feeling overwhelmingly nostalgic when it comes to MSM, which I believe is partly why I’ve been a bit “hostile” in my mentions of it, more specifically towards the fandom. I’m trying to get used to the changes, I really am, but it’s hard. To make it a bit easier on myself, I’ve decided to bundle my thoughts about it with my Other Favourite Mobile Game, Sky.
The logic here is: If they’re together, my love for both of them will be enough to cancel out my hatred. So far it seems to be working alright, so I’ll continue doing that.

oh my god you have NO idea,
beyond The Stanley Parable, thierry's second most latched-on interest is Internet Culture, SPECIFICALLY the worst you can find on it in terms of shocking content, disturbing stories & videos, & horror period.
surface-level horror content he likes just fine, not a big fan of horror MOVIES ( unless they're the REALLY bad & BANNED ones ), but I can guarantee most of the stuff you'd think of off the top of your head when I say " horror media, " he'd probably like to some degree or another - like ARG / analog horror, Creepypastas, horror games ( not really the super modern type ironically enough ), etc-
& the more well-written, finely developed, with genuine thought put into it, he REALLY does admire from a writer/creator's standpoint ( being one himself ), even if he's not as fanatic about it as some other concepts. man would absolutely FANBOY over things like DHMIS or Happy Meat Farms okay,
but ohohoho-- the stuff that REALLY GETS him are the obscurish / more infamous things with MINDLESS gore & jumpscares & disturbing elements- & in places where it has absolutely NO place being there? oh sign him UP.
things like Smile / Cupcakes / Rainbow Factory ( MLP ), othersuch darkfic in other franchises, bloody flash videos/games, exe games ( go figure ) shock sites & jumpscare / screamer links, reddit 50/50 - etc etc, just the WORST shit ever ( in the realm of just needless blood & guts, of course; he's not THAT much a monster ),
this man has memorized the screamer wiki & will be HAPPY to tell you about his own ideas for inescapable Saw death traps ( he has a list at the ready ); he's also the cruel sort who will just bomb people with these things unwillingly & has certainly exposed people such as rosemary to more than a few horrific fanfictions & videos thinking they're "funny",

So my dad, while an avid movie lover, always thought that he did not particularly like horror. Honestly, he'd mostly just watched a lot of horror that was either bad or not to his taste. (He's not a fan of slasher/gore films and neither am I, tbh.)
I recced him some horror that I thought was good and he's been slowly making his way through that, and we've had some winners! He's told me how much he enjoyed El Orfanato, Lake Mungo, The Woman in Black, etc. It seems that, like me, he enjoys films that have creepy vibes and weird mysteries rather than more explicit monsters/slashers.
For me personally, the sense of unease and slowly mounting dread is what I love about horror. I love ghost stories that are just as much about the human psyche as they are about the actual supernatural creatures. Gore tends to instill a different and entirely unrelated emotion in me (disgust, annoyance) so it doesn't do anything for me, and movies that rely on mostly gore for their scares just kind of bore me.
I think that Dad and I have similar taste in that respect. So I keep turning to dad like "Well, have you heard of 1408? What did you think about The Ring? The Descent is fantastic, but I think it was actually scarier before the monsters showed up..."
I've also gotten him into some tv shows! I am very happy to report that I have found a new person to talk to about The Exorcist (TV). I still stand by my opinion that that show was better than it had any right to be.
But I was thinking, and I'm trying to decide if next I want to introduce him to internet horror...? I mean, I think something like Local 58 or My house walk-through can be just as scary as a lot of mainstream horror films. That said, it's often a very different way of interacting with media...? And I'm not sure if he'd enjoy that or not.
Like, when DHMIS first came out, he enjoyed the first one! I think he was still teaching middle/high school at that point, so of course his students played it for him. (I actually saw that first one at a film festival around this time, so it was fairly mainstream.) I think he thought it was a bit tryhard but he did like it. But when I told him that there was basically an entire cottage industry of people trying to piece together what the series was about he was like "well, it sounds like those people have too much time on their hands."
He's... kind of a "the curtains are just blue" sort of person. lmao
I personally really enjoy the kind of media that you really have to work for (see: my obsession with interactive theater that requires you to investigate details and assemble the "plot", such as it is, that way) but Dad... idk! Not everyone likes it when their peanut butter is put in a kong toy. Sometimes you just want a straightforward jar. Neither option is necessarily better or worse, imo. It's just preference.
Maybe I'll try him on a few videos when I see him in a few days... I'll have to think through my game plan.

making a dhmis fan season and i think the funniest fucking thing about it is the monster cans just becoming normal people. normal nurses n doctors who take care of you. albeit in a very strange way.
the concept for this "episode" is duck "gets sick" and has to go to the hospital but the hospital is just a void. cans dont tell him whats going on but theyre really nice though and non malicious. yes duck remembers btw but only vaguely...like a feeling of terror instead of a memory. it's scary

INNOCENCE- A DHMIS AU
PART 1: THE MAIN THREE
(If people like it enough, I might add a part 2 to this)
PERSONALITIES:
Red Guy: Red Guy lives with his two friends in Clay Woods, in his own seperate little cottage just in the middle of their houses. He has a big stash of Jam always, and when its gone, he will always go search for more. If he sees Jam, he will take it, no questions asked. Red Guy does tend to make questionable decisions for any sort of plan he may need, but can be compassionate when he needs to be. He, like the others, seems to hold a rather childlike innocence to him-- as he does not know what some bigger words mean or how to do basic stuff like math or drawing. He tends to be the less emotional one out of the three, and barely does show any emotion at all-- only reacting with emotion when it comes to Jam or something saddening. He is often called 'silly' by his friends, but he never seems to understand why, as he never seems to be trying to be silly. His questionable choices in question are stuff along the lines of chasing after Duck who is clearly afraid of heights and is attached to a kite and just asking him how his day is instead of doing anything, and when Duck flies off, just waving goodbye. And attempting to invade Yellows home once because he bought Jam and he didn't have anymore. Upon this happening, Yellow decided to never buy Jam again.
Yellow: Yellow Guy is the most energetic among the three, more adventurous and eager to go places. He bounces around a lot(literally) and consumes a lot of sugar, usually that being candy or desserts. Duck does attempt to get him to eat something else besides sugar, but it never works out. He tends to break things without meaning to, as he quite literally bounces around to get places. He does apologize for these instances, and does attempt to fix them whenever it happens. He also seems very insistent that he's a "sherrif", despite having no proof of it whatsoever. His friends do question it, but just go along with it for his sake. He does adore his dad, but has no idea where he is.
Duck: Duck is the most anxious among the three, often staying put in his home and worrying about every little thing. He constantly has to be reassured nothing bad is going to happen, and usually has to be accompanied by his friends in order to calm down. He is very soft spoken with his words, and intensely polite. He has a childlike fear of monsters, and of course, this is usually the reason why he rarely gets any sleep at all. For him to sleep, you'd have to reassure him over and over again that nothing bad was going to happen. Among the three, Duck and Red do seem the closest, so Red does manage to calm Duck a lot of the time.

R: "...Its our home."
Y: "Why, it's our home, of course! Why would we have cottages if it wasn't our home, silly? Hohoho!"
D: "U-- Uh, well, it just happens to be a pair of a bunch of trees we decided to live together in.. theres-- there's definitely monsters out there though. [Shudders]."
Do you know who Lesley is?:
R: "No.. I don't believe I do. Are they a new person in the forest?"
Y: "Hmmm.. well, it seems the great Sherrif does not know who this Lesley person is!"
D: "Lesley? No-- no, I don't believe I do, sorry."
Why do you live in Clay Woods?:
R: "...I don't know. But they certainly do have a lot of Jam around here, so it's of no concern to me."
Y: "Hmm-- because we liked it here! And because I can catch a lot of imposters and fakes around here! Huhuhu! They'll all be so scared when I show them what a real sherrif is!"
D: "Un-- unsure why, um.. I think I just live here because they wanted to.
