Oh yeah ... just getting it off exactly how it needs to given all the massive feels we're gonna get, right? Way to go, Marisha, filling in for Sam JUST RIGHT at the start ... XD "Off off off ... THIS hotdog ... BITES BACK." Oh wow ... yeah this whole plug's just been derailed before she can even start ... wait ... what? A dump cake? Oh boy ... "catterpilling"? Is this something I maybe don't actually wanna know about? Yes, GO OFF, Marisha! Give Riegel a damn good seeing to even though he's not here ... Liam: "This is Orym's Form of Dread." I think a lot has been said about the switch in ep 92, but I think a couple particularly head-scratching bits I'm still a little confused by are

- for Dorian to be the link we have from BH to CK, he had remarkably little 'screen time' in the second half.

- such an intimately personal and important character moment as Opal's possession by Lolth feels like the *worst* moment to do a cold open into the CK, especially so given the fact like 75% of the current watchers of C3 probably never watched ExU Prime or Kymal. It'd be like being dropped into the moment Caleb attempts to bring Veth back into her true body, like dawg this kills dramatic tension in *two* campaigns at once, as well as does disservice to both FCG's sacrifice *and* Opal as a character who just had her entire arc cannonballed through to the climax (seemingly, without ever being notified beforehand!)

C3E092 Broken Roads

Our Episode 92 data is now online. Some highlights:

First, you’ll notice that we’ve added previous guest characters (up through the split) to our “Data by Character” page. As we presently only track Campaign 3 data and there’s not yet much C3 data for the Crown Keepers, they haven’t yet been added, but may be in the future.

One Crown Keeper, however, does have a brand-new page on the site. Dorian Storm returns to the table after 78 episodes away, eight levels higher than we last saw him in Campaign 3. In episodes 1-14 he rolled nine Nat 20s and five Nat 1s; we’ll see in Episode 93 if he can keep up that luck.

We also wanted to note that Opal dealt 69 points of damage in Episode 92. Nice.

Secondly: Bell’s Hells have returned to Exandria after nine episodes and roughly two full days of in-game time. They arrived in early afternoon, spent the early evening at the Razora Outpost, and discovered the backdoor to Ruidus that night.

They set off the next morning for Kreviris, arrived in the afternoon, and slept at the resistance safehouse before carrying out their missions the next day and returning to Exandria in the evening.

We are exhausted just thinking about this.

I don't like looking at my past, because it doesn't have The Mighty Nein in it, and I think I put off the inevitable, because I'm going to-- I'm afraid it's going to be like my past.

MARISHA: I think I've worked so hard because I scripted this day, in my inevitable future that I would go back to him, successful woman, respectable member of society, Cobalt Soul, an Expositor, the thing he threw me away to, and I embraced. And then, I would get mad at myself, because I felt like I was doing exactly what he was doing to me my entire life, scripting me to be something else. And I'm still doing it. I haven't seen him in three years, and I'm still trying to be... something. And I think what's scary is that I like this, and what I've found, and I don't think it was until Nott started talking about having to go home and go away that it truly started terrifying me. Because for the first time, I'm happy. And what if that goes away?

LIAM: (sighs softly) (sniffles) So far. I'm going to miss him.

LAURA: Yeah. Yeah.

LIAM: I'm going to miss Letters.

(sniffles)

LAURA: They were-- They were alive.

MARISHA: (chuckling) And I think I know that, and I think I say things to Nott like, "You don't have to put those stipulations on yourself" because I've convinced myself that destiny or the inevitability won't come knocking. If you ignore it, it won't exist, and that's not true.

TRAVIS: (sighs) It'll be interesting either way. Your face is leaking.

MARISHA: I hate it.

TRAVIS: I won't tell anyone.

MARISHA: Don't tell anybody.

TRAVIS: Yep. You're a good friend. You're a good trainer.

LAURA: I want you to know that that for a while it may have felt that you and I were not seeing eye to eye or maybe you felt that I, I didn't have the same goal in mind that you did. But don't worry about that anymore, all right?

LAURA: Yeah. Yeah.

LAURA: I wanted that, too, and (chuckles) god, that back and forth is a pretty funny thing, but choices were made. If nothing else, then at least we've got a little bit of knowledge on the inside now.

LIAM: Yeah. As much we'd like to, you can't turn back the clock.

LAURA: That's right. But you've got us.

I’m currently on episode 93 in my C2 rewatch and I absolutely love Jester tricking Isharnai but I think that moment being so amazing overshadows some absolutely fantastic character moments from the other 3 ladies of the M9. You’ve got Veth who wants to be herself again so badly that she’s willing to restart a war the M9 has spent a lot of time and effort trying to find a way to stop. It’s such a selfish thing for her to do and would have ruined the lives of so many innocent people but it shows just how much Isharnai and the goblins actually messed her up.

Then we have Beau, the abused child who had to face her abuser again to help a friend the episode before and did it, but had to watch him gaslight her and her friends, get no support or even any real acknowledgment of how they wronged her from her mother or father, was introduced to the child they really wanted all along and despite herself couldn’t help but love him. I don’t think anyone in the M9 truly realized how much returning home messed up Beau and so they were surprised a few days later when she walked into the home of a hag and offered to give up everything and everyone she loves because Luc needs his mother. Beau, who is an asshole most of the time and acts like she doesn’t care a lot of the time, willingly offered to give up everything good in her life for someone else and that is such an important character moment for Beau. The Beau from episode 1 would have never done that. It’s an incredibly selfless act but it’s also proof that Beau believes she’s not worthy of the good things she has and that there must be something wrong with her for her parents to treat her the way they have and for the Cobalt Soul, the organization meant to root out corruption, to accept a bribe to kidnap her. Episode 92 and 93 are why Zeenoth and her father being punished for what they did to her came as such a surprise to Beau.

Lastly, we have Yasha, the woman who has been mourning her wife and best friend for most of the campaign and nearly killed Beau a few episodes before while under Obann’s control, realize what Beau offered the hag and immediately walked in an offered to give up her collection of flowers for Zuala and what she has left from Molly so Beau doesn’t have to make her deal. Yasha would have never done that before Obann and imo it’s a big clue how her feelings have developed for Beau. She willing to give up the way she honors and mourns her first love to keep from losing the woman she’s falling in love with.

This whole episode is amazing in so many ways and is one of my favorite episodes not named The Cathedral.
