Canon Pairings, Buck/Eddie — Mistletoe kiss
It’s almost Christmas so I’m looking for some Christmas time fluff!
Easy peasy prompt: minifill or quick snippets of Athena/Bobby, Hen/Karen, Chim/Maddie, and Buck/Eddie each having a kiss under the mistletoe.
Buddie can be pre relationship or established. Any setting (although I personally pictured a strategically placed sprig of mistletoe at a Grant-Nash Christmas BBQ).
+ Extra points for Albert and Ravi too! (Albert/Ravi or them with OCs, I don’t mind.)
Fill: None

“So how did you know?”
“Know what?”
“Y’know, how did you know.”
“Dingus, I’m gonna need you to spell it out for me here, the Russians did a number on how many of my braincells are actually working.”
“How did you know that you liked girls?”
Robin Buckley immediately pushed herself up so she was resting on her elbows, head tilted to catch Steve Harrington’s eyes in the low light of their hospital room.
They weren’t originally even going to go to the hospital, if Robin was being honest. They had just wanted to slip away back to their respective homes, but then Melissa and Richard Buckley caught wind that Robin was hurt. Then the both of them realized that Steve’s parents (if Robin has to use that term to describe them) had less than zero intention of sending anyone to pick up Steve.
Then EMS made the light suggestion of both of them probably needing to go to Hawkins General Hospital… and well, while Melissa and Richard did tend to lead toward more natural remedies… one couldn’t fix a concussion or a drugging with an unknown substance with essential oils and hope.
“Robbie? Did you OD over there?” Steve had himself up on his elbows, easily mimicking Robin. That’s the thing that makes the inside of Robin ache, that he’s so like her. She knows that she’s an only child, knows that, but sometimes Steve’ll just… do something and it makes her question it. Makes her wonder how she spent so long without him, without another brain and two legs and arms and so much hair. “Robbie?”
“No, I am still alive.” Robin slowly spoke, before she let out a soft sigh. “Why do you ask?”
“Like-” Steve huffed as he shook his head from side to side, before he used the one hand that was free from the pulse monitor and saline drip to card through his hair. It’s sleep ruffled, and if he uses product (Robin is sure he does), it’s for sure gone. Steve looks up though, and his eyes are so earnest that it causes something to hurt inside of Robin. “never mind just ignore- fuck - just ignore me.”
“I couldn’t ignore you if I tried, you idiot.” Robin let out a huff, and she winced as the PICC line in her arm shifted as tilted to be able to fully face Steve on her side. “But I just, dingus, this is out of left field for even you.”
“How so?”
“Did you even know that, that people like me even existed until a couple of hours ago?” Robin kept her voice soft, especially as Steve huffed out an indignant sounding sigh. Robin sighs though, and then she cards her own hand through her hair, and forges onward. “I think I’ve just… always known.”
“Always?”
“Yeah like-” Robin shrugged, a careful movement of her shoulders. “When I was like, eight? My uh, parents sent me to this camp thing- like summer camp kind of like what Dustin went to? But with, y’know, with the swimming and archery and dude I was fucking awful at it.” Steve let out a soft and watery laugh at Robin’s rambling, and that gave Robin enough power to continue. “But we uh, had these like songs we had to learn? And there was this uh, girl counselor there that had to teach me because you know, that was her job.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah, and uh. She couldn’t have been older than I am now but man…” Robin let out a slow whistle, and allowed herself to fully melt into the hospital cot she’s laid up on. “All I could think was that I just wanted to be with her. Like not even kissing because I thought kissing was gross then, still do now kinda but anyway- I wanted to like, hold her hand and shit. Do the cheesy stuff I’d seen in the movies, y’know?”
Steve huffed out his own laugh, and he tilted his head to lean against his pillows instead of facing Robin. Robin watched though, quiet for once, as Steve swallowed once and then twice- before he cleared his throat.
“I knew it existed before you.”
“What?”
“It.”
“Dingus-”
“Girls liking girls.” Steve’s voice is barely above a whisper, even as Robin can hear him gulp in a lungful of air. “And boys liking boys.”
“You did?” Robin kept her voice quiet, gentle, as coaxing as she could- especially when she could see Steve’s throat bob. “Dingus?”
“I…” Steve doesn’t continue, and that’s enough.
Enough to Robin that she pushed herself up, and ignored the pain that ricocheted down her spine like needles. Ignored Steve’s hurried ‘what are-’, as she stumbled out of her hospital bed and right to Steve’s. She made sure to drag her IV pole and the monitor with her, situating it as best as she could next to Steve’s. Robin huffed quietly as the pain trickled down her spine, and she couldn’t help but smile as Steve curled his hand carefully around her wrist and tugged.
Robin got comfortable, let Steve fret over her as best as he could, his fingers only ever-so slightly trembling as he made sure that the line in her arm wasn’t kinked up. They were pressed close, side to side and hip to hip, and Robin tilted her head down until it was rested on Steve’s shoulder.
“Wanna keep going, Stevie?”
“No.”
“But?”
“I…” Steve huffed again, a small indignant noise that Robin mimicked.
They sat like that then, just the two of them for a moment, before Steve continued slowly.
“I’ve never, told anyone this- like I’ve told Tommy H. so much shit about me - but this is… Robin this is different.” Steve speaks in a hurried and stilted way, like he’s stringing together bits and pieces of sentences, and it shouldn’t work.
But it does because he’s Steve and she’s Robin.
And truthfully, Robin likes that. That they’re Steve and Robin. SteveandRobin. RobinandSteve. Likes that the two of them are so in tune that even her own mother didn’t want to separate them.
That had to mean something in the end, didn’t it?
“Tell me, whatever… whenever.” Robin murmured as she turned her head so she could press a soft kiss to Steve’s shoulder. The hospital gown is thin enough she can feel the heat of his skin from up under it, and that’s grounding. Grounding even as Steve drew in a shaky breath, audibly swallowing again. “Whenever you’re ready, I’m here.”
“I didn’t uh, notice Tammy in Ms. Click’s class or uh, you for a reason.” Steve slowly spoke, eyes wet, and Robin can hear his sniffle as he tried to reign his emotions back. “Ms. Click made him sit uh, right by her desk at the front of the room.”
And oh.
Oh.
If that doesn’t immediately settle something that just usually writhes around in Robin’s chest.
“Him?” Robin is gentle, gentler than she thinks she’s ever been.
“Uh, yeah… Eddie Munson?” Steve huffed out an almost dry laugh, the only thing that he does that ever remotely reminds her of his time as his high school “King Steve” persona. “He uh, got this bat tattoo right before that year’s Thanksgiving break and all I could do was just… gawk at him.”
“And then what?” Robin knew she was pushing, searching for information, but she can’t help it. Not when Steve is right next to her, hip to hip and thigh to thigh. Not when he’s like her. In all the ways that matter.
“I went home and screamed into my pillow.”
Robin immediately smacked Steve’s thigh with the knuckles of her left hand- grinning in triumph when Steve let out a squawk of laughter.
“Eddie Munson?”
“What about him?”
“He’s… he’s a total dud!”
“No he’s not!”
“He stepped in my mashed potatoes once! That is totally total dud material!”
“No way!”
“He wants to be like, like a metal singer!”
“He has a band! Dreams!”
“Do you even know if he can hold a tune?”
“Well, no-”
“Total. Dud.”
Robin grinned wide as Steve launched into a very quick defense about Eddie, and she decides then and there that Steve and her? They’ll be just fine.
Especially if she can get Eddie to come into Steve and her’s orbit just a bit, to see if the crush is still there.
Because while Robin may not have all of the gay knowledge in the world, there is one thing for a complete certainty that she knows.
The black hanky that Eddie kept in his pocket?
Well…
Robin chuffed to herself, before she tilted so she could lay on her side- nose tucked into the place where Steve’s neck and shoulder met.
Right before she falls asleep though, Robin does a very important thing on a mental whiteboard.

Summary: A car accident leaves (Y/n), Evan and their unborn child in jeopardy and places them both in a coma.
Enjoy.

Tumblr media
"You know we're supposed to be going out, right? Not back to bed,"
A smile wormed its way onto (Y/n)'s lips when she heard Evan's teasing voice and felt his hand move to grip her thigh. He gave her a squeeze and a little pinch just to watch her leg jerk before he went back to holding the steering wheel.
"Wake me up when we get there," She mused, sinking further down in her seat with her head lolled on the seatbelt.
"Oh no, baby, you're not getting a power nap right now." Evan reached over to turn up the radio, grinning when his wife mumbled something incoherent as she moved to grab his hand. He knew if she went to sleep, he would have a hard time waking her up when they arrived to meet Maddie at the restaurant for dinner. She had to stay awake or he would end up leaving her to sleep in the car and then she really wouldn't thank him.
He lifted her hand to his lips, kissing the back of her hand as she twisted in her seat. (Y/n) didn't open her eyes, but they both knew the radio was going to keep her awake, she couldn't sleep with any loud noise in the background. The most she was going to get was resting her eyes before they arrived and she would have to wake up for dinner.
"I'm tired,"
"Yeah, I think having a bath at five in the morning might have something to do with that."
"Your child only sleeps when I take a bath."
(Y/n) brushed her thumb over Evan's lips that parted to let out a laugh at her response. When she couldn't sleep this morning, taking a bath had been the only thing (Y/n) could think of doing to relieve her discomfort and try to settle down both her and the baby. The baby seemed to calm down when she laid in the bath. The water soothed her aching back and made the baby within her calm down and stop kicking and fidgeting.
"Oh, so when they play up they're my child, right?"
"Yes, Buckley, this kid has your hyperactiveness. I wanted to sleep, your child didn't."
That made Evan smile. Their baby wasn't even born yet and they were automatically his child when they did something wrong. He could understand though, he had seen the discomfort written across (Y/n)'s face these last two months. And he had momentairily panicked this morning when he woke up alone until he wandered to the bathroom and found his wife laid out in the bath, finally settled and feeling at peace as the baby had gone back to sleep.
"You can sleep as much as you want next month, I promise." He kissed her palm before she coiled her arms around her bump and shimmied around again.
They only had one more month to wait, and then Evan would be on annual leave and their baby would be born. Evan would take all the late nights he could get so (Y/n) could catch up on the sleep she had lost in these last few months.
She had the baby to herself right now and Evan was desperate for them to be born so he could snatch them away and finally see his baby. He wanted them in his arms and wriggling on his chest, he wanted to physically see and hold them instead of sitting around waiting in agony for the time to pass by.
"Fuck!"
Evan slammed on the brakes but it didn't do any good. His fingers deadlocked around the steering wheel, his elbows locked and his arms straightened out like rulers to press himself back into the seat.
The tyre on the car in front of them had burst. Evan couldn't swerve into the other lane unless he wanted to crash into the cars beside him and he couldn't swerve to the right and risk hitting the middle barrier. All he could do was brake and pray the cars behind wouldn't crush them.
A burning scream ricketed against the back of (Y/n)'s throat and teeth. She could feel her body tensing and pulling inwards and she scraped her shoes down against the floor to try and steady herself and push back in the seat as if she was reaching for an imaginary brake. Her hand tightened around the door handle and her free hand reached out to hold the dashboard when she heard Evan make a noise between a growl and a scream.
Her head collided with the window and the shock caused static to pound through her ears. Nothing but white noise filtered through (Y/n)'s head and she couldn't concentrate or feel anything but the way the car was shaking and how every muscle tensed to the point they were going to snap.
"Baby? Baby, you okay? Shit, talk to me please… (Y/n) please-" Evan's ramblings came to a pause when he felt (Y/n)'s hand leave the dashboard and swat out at her side to try and reach for him. Her throat was burning, the only noise she knew she could make would be to scream and that wouldn't help Evan right now.
She curled her trembling fingers around his wrist and started to tug on his arm to try and let him know she could hear him and that she was still somewhat awake and alert.
Her fingers stayed curled around his wrist and she reached her other hand out for him when he unclipped his belt and leaned across the gear stick to inch closer to her. His hands cupped her face and tilted her head up so he could rest their foreheads together. The feeling of his thumbs tracing up and down her cheeks calmed (Y/n) enough for her to finally open her eyes.
The vision of her husband blurred in front of her, he looked as if he had a halo of light glowing around him. The concern was evident in his eyes that were blown wide and glossy like wet marbles and she could see his eyes raking her up and down, scouting for injuries.
"We gotta get out the car, baby. We're in the middle of the motorway,"
He wanted to find his phone but he couldn't find the will power to move just yet. His whole body was raked with tremors coursing through him making him jerk back and forth in his seat and his phone was no longer clipped on the dashboard. It had fallen during the crash, it would probably be in the footwell somewhere or even behind the gas pedals.
They weren't the only people on the motorway or the only ones caught up in this crash. 911 would be hyjacked by hundreds of people ringing in to let them know there had been a crash so Evan didn't have to call and block up their lines any further.
They couldn't stay in the car.
They had crashed and they were still right in the centre of the dilemma. Evan knew the safest thing to do if they could both walk and get out would be to go on the side of the motorway and wait for the emergency services. Sitting in the car made them targets in case anyone else was speeding down and couldn't stop in time. People could easily crash into them, they needed to move.
"Baby are you okay?"
"Hm." She felt shaky, fueled with adrenaline and her neck was throbbing like it had been broken from whiplash, but she was okay.
"Let's get you out-"
(Y/n) screamed. She couldn't help it. A car pummelled into the back of their car, sending them violently twisting to the right and crashing forward into the two cars that had come to a halt in front of them.
Evan had taken his seatbelt off; he had the intention of getting out the car. With nothing to pin him to the seat, Evan's body slammed forward until his head smashed into the passenger window. His arms bent awkwardly around (Y/n) as his upper body fell onto her lap and his legs got caught between the door and the steering wheel like he was laying down to take a nap.
When the back of his head thrust back into the window, Evan suddenly stopped screaming and he slumped down, going motionless.
***
"Alright, you all know the drill. Major pile up in the middle of the freeway, if anyone can walk for help direct them to the paramedics. Shout out if you need to cut someone out the car, find anyone stuck and get them free. Chimney you're with me, Eddie go with Hen."
Bobby strapped on his helmet and nodded at his team but his eyes frowned when he looked over at Eddie.
They had parked up on the hard shoulder a few feet away from the crash since the ambulances needed to get round and them be closer to the scene so they could drive ahead and get out of the mess. At least ten cars had piled up right at the front of the chaos and other cars had swerved to awkward stops and parked up to try and help assist anyone they could. For the last seven miles, the truck had to drive on the hard shoulder because the motorway was jam packed with people unable to move anywhere.
"Eddie, what's up?"
"Cap, the blue ford…" Something stirred in Eddie's chest and his fingers curled tighter around his helmet when he scanned his eyes over the mess. Right at the front of the pile up near the middle barrier was a navy blue ford that looked beat up and bashed about. But Eddie knew (Y/n) had a car just like that and he knew Evan was off work today and tomorrow.
"What about it?"
"It's Buck!" Eddie dropped his helmet and set off into a sprint. He didn't need to see the number plate; his gut was telling him that either Evan, (Y/n) or both of them were in that car. He couldn't kick the dread that settled in the pit of his stomach or the adrenaline that fueled his system.
Eddie could hear Bobby shouting for back up and he knew his Captain wasn't far behind him, weaving through the mess to reach Evan's car. Eddie read the number plate when he was a few feet away and he found himself nodding; that was (Y/n)'s car. Was she in there? Was it just Evan? Were they both in this mess? A pregnant woman in a car crash was never a good thing.
"Buck! Buck, we're here- I need the wrench!" Eddie jammed his elbow into the window and tried in vain to wiggle the door handle but it was locked tight.
His hands stretched out and snatched the wrench that Bobby held out to him as he was followed by Hen with a medic bag on her shoulder. Chimney followed close behind with another medic from a different station, both of them carrying back boards upon Bobby's careful instruction.
The wrench jammed between the metal and Eddie used all his strength to prize the door open, stumbling back when the lock finally released and he could get inside.
Eddie went down on his knees, slumping beside the door as Hen curved around beside him to lean in.
They didn't like what they saw.
Once the door was open, it left (Y/n) to slump to the left towards the open space. She was being held up by her seatbelt that stopped her from flopping down onto Eddie's lap. Her hair fanned in fornt of her face like curtains shielding her from their perceptive eyes, but what scared them more was Evan.
He was laid out, his legs a tangled mess against the steering wheel and the driver's seat. His body was slumped onto (Y/n)'s thighs, his head resting motionless on (Y/n)'s chest with one arm hanging down by the seat and the other arm slumped on his waist. He was obscuring their view of (Y/n), they couldn't see if she had any injuries below the neck because Evan was completely covering her.
Even unconscious, it looked like he was trying to protect her.
From the off, Eddie could see a wound on the back of Evan's head that had already spilled blood through his curls and left a small slither down the back of his neck like a child had drawn a jagged line with a marker. Around the wound there was some swelling but they would need to send him for a scan to check if he had any cranial damage or brain swelling. The possibilities were creating a long, worrisome list of internal injuries Evan could have.
Pushing up on his toes, Eddie tried to control the trembling in his hands as he pressed them to either side of Evan's neck. He felt his pulse, checked for any swelling around his neck and looked at his chest to see his breathing.
"I've got a strong pulse, breathing is good but he could have nerve damage; look at his legs."
Evan's vitals were good, they were very good considering the predicament he was in but Eddie didn't like how he was laid. Evan could have done a lot of damage to his neck, he could have broken his spine or dislocated a column in his spine. And his legs were curled and skewed in the driver's seat which upon first glance, could be nothing scary. It could just be the way he had fallen during the accident, or it could indicate that Evan had nerve damage and he could have broken or damaged his legs.
"We need to move him. He's laid on (Y/n), he could be crushing the baby or hiding her injuries, either way he's adding extra pressure she doesn't need." Hen handed Eddie a neck brace for Evan while she slipped one around (Y/n)'s neck.
She could feel (Y/n)'s pulse and was trying to take her blood pressure, but Evan was obscuring their vision. They couldn't see (Y/n)'s stomach which Evan was clearly lying on and applying pressure to by accident. He could be crushing her lungs or cutting off the baby's blood supply with how he was laid and (Y/n) could have serious injuries that Evan was partially blocking. He had to be moved.
"Her BP's way too low and pulse is fluctuating but I can't check on the fetus yet. Bobby we need to get Buck out, now."
"Alright, I'll climb in the back and ease him over to you Eddie, Chim get ready to help get him out and on the back board."
The driver's side was completely blocked by another car and the middle barrier, they couldn't get Evan out that side which would have been easier than lifting him over (Y/n). But they had to work with what they had.
Bobby rammed the back door open and clambered inside, gripping the two front seats so he could cramp himself into the smallest shape possible and climb into the driver's seat. He did his best to avoid Evan's legs and slide himself down into the footwell near the gas pedals. Once he was turned around with his lower hips and bum pressed into the steering wheel, Bobby looked over Evan's legs.
How were they going to do this?
Usually they would get the back board in the car with them and clip Evan onto it, then lift him out. (Y/n) being here complicated things and made that impossible. They couldn't rest the board on or over her to get Evan on and they had to move him first.
He patted down Evan's legs and checked for any external injuries, any bleeding or broken bones and thankfully found none.
He gently twisted Evan's legs back round and stretched them out, laying him flat on his back as Eddie helped turn his upper chest on (Y/n)'s lap so he was fully straight.
"On three, lift him and start easing him out but go slow, I need to lean over (Y/n) without hurting either of them."
Bobby curled his hands beneath Evan's knees, pushed his shoulders up into the roof and lifted at the same time Eddie hooked his hands under Evan's arms and pulled him up. Eddie shuffled backwards and Chimney hurried forward to support Evan's lower back and he nodded at Bobby and took Evan's knees from him. It would be easier to keep Bobby there in the car to get (Y/n) out.
They eased Evan down onto the back board and pulled the straps over him to keep him in place.
"Get him in the ambulance but don't go until we've got (Y/n) out," Eddie wasn't sure where the authority in his voice came from but he didn't have time to care. He didn't want Evan leaving without (Y/n) in case someone messed up and took him to the wrong hospital or they couldn't find him once they got there. He needed to travel at the same time as (Y/n), preferably in the same ambulance so they could take them both together and the team could watch over them both.
Chimney and the other medic started to make their way towards the 118 ambulance, Evan still unconscious between them. They could give him fluids, get him on oxygen and check his vitals while they waited for (Y/n) and the rest of the team to join them.
"Eddie, we've got a problem," Hen looked back at him before she darted her eyes down to (Y/n). "Buck was hiding an injury from us."
Eddie knelt back down beside (Y/n) while Bobby sat down in the driver's seat and Hen leaned inside the car.
Blood was pooling between (Y/n)'s thighs and into the seat. She was haemorrhaging, possibly for a few seconds, possibly for a while and Evan had been laid on top of her, keeping it from them. But he also might have stemmed the bleeding with his weight and now he was gone, the bleeding could get worse.
Reaching into the medic bag, Eddie found a stethoscope and hurriedly pressed it to (Y/n)'s stomach. After a few seconds, he moved it over to her right side, then an inch lower before he leaned forward and sighed.
"There's a heartbeat, but it's low." His hands trailed along (Y/n)'s arms and down her legs, checking for any breaks which he didn't find. He then pressed his hands to (Y/n)'s upper chest, wincing when he felt her ribs. Two, possibly three, were damaged on her right side.
But when Eddie rolled up her shirt so he could check her stomach, he felt the way Hen tensed beside him and Bobby's eyes widened as he leaned forward.
"Skin is flushed and warm, she's bleeding internally, the baby might be too. Page the hospital, she has to go now."
(Y/n)'s abdomen was discoloured and dark, blood was pooling beneath the surface of her skin and her lower stomach was very warm and soft to the touch. She was bleeding both internally and externally, all around her abdomen which meant there was likely bleeding in the womb and around the baby. They needed to move her now before they lost the fetal heartbeat and someone would have to tell Evan he'd lost his child.
Hen placed the fluids bag on her shoulder and kept the IV line clear that she had taped into the back of (Y/n)'s hand to give her a wide stream. She held (Y/n) beneath her arms while Eddie held her legs and Bobby leaned over for added support, all nodding at each other to move.
A shudder ran down Eddie's spine once they laid (Y/n) down on the second backboard. The passenger seat was dark crimson instead of grey. She had been bleeding out for some time.
"This is Captain Nash to dispatch, alert the hospital that we are bringing in two casualties with severe concussions and need doctors on standby. One is a pregnant female, approximately thirty-five weeks, excessive blood loss and internal bleeding."
***
Terror ransacked through Evan's body when his brain seemed to switch on and his eyes opened. It took a few tries to get his vision to clear from a fuzzy wet painting into a proper, formed image.
Where was he? What happened? why was he laid down and aching all over like he had broken every bone in his body?
He didn't realise he was moving until he managed to swat a hand out and grab the oxygen mask strapped against his mouth and nose. The forceful flow of oxygen burned his lungs and made the back of his throat feel raw like sandpaper.
Evan's lips parted and his eyes widened in terror when he touched his nose and suddenly realised there was a tube taped inside his nose that went down his throat. Without a second thought, Evan tore the tape from beneath his nose, curled his fist around the cream tube and yanked. His tongue pressed out against his parted lips and he gagged, coughing violently onto his lap before he snorted when the long tube finally came out of his throat and nose.
He tossed it onto the floor and pushed himself up into a sitting position just as a pair of familiar hands found his shoulders and held onto him.
"Help!" Evan didn't know why that was the first word to leave his lips. He wasn't sure what sort of help he was asking for or why, but it was all he could think to say when Bobby perched down on the edge of the bed and appeared in front of him like a guardian angel.
"Buck, calm down. Hey, you're alright it's okay. You're in the hospital," Bobby's voice was soft, slow and soothing and he kept squeezing Evan's shoulders until the bout of panic started to subside.
His shoulders stopped quaking and his chest calmed down to a more normal breathing pattern instead of excessive, shallow breaths.
He darted his eyes around the room he was in. Bobby was sat on the bed but his rosary beads were on the chair beside the bed and his jacket was on the floor. Evan recognised a bag near the door, it was his duffle bag. Someone had brought him some things from home. How long had he been in here? How many hours had he been unconscious?
He had an IV drip taped into the back of his left hand and a heartbeat monitor clipped to his right finger which he threw on the floor as well. He was wearing an uncomfortable, itchy hospital gown.
The car.
He had been driving when a crash happened.
He was with (Y/n).
"(Y/n)! (Y/n), where is she? Bobby where is she?!" His hands reached out to clamp down on Bobby's forearms and he gave him a shove. Evan tried to swing his legs over the side of the bed but Bobby moved faster and pushed him back into the bed.
"Buck everything's okay-"
"Where's my wife?!"
"Sit down and I'll tell you." Bobby matched his tone of voice and raised his brows, digging his hands forcefully into Evan's shoulders until he finally relented and stopped fighting against him.
Evan couldn't go running round the hospital like a headless chicken in search of answers. Bobby had all the answers Evan was looking for and he would happily tell him if he would just calm down enough to listen. There was no need for him to panic, he wasn't sat here alone, he had Bobby here with him to talk him through everything.
"We arrived on scene and brought you both to the hospital, you had a concussion and swelling on the brain. The doctors put you in an induced coma to let your brain heal and for the swelling to go down. You've been out for three days, but you should be okay now. You've broken two ribs and dislocated your shoulder which they put back in place."
As soon as they arrived, Evan went up for an MRI and they found no bleeding in his brain but his brain had started to swell. They placed him in a coma to relieve the pressure and let him recover and it worked. His scan this morning showed his brain was a lot better and was functioning normally so they let him slowly come out of the coma this afternoon.
His shoulder had been put back in place and he had a bandage around his chest for the two ribs he had broken. Evan would be okay as long as he took things easy.
"Three days?" Fuck. "What about (Y/n) a-and the baby?"
"The placenta ruptured and caused a lot of blood loss, (Y/n) went straight for a C-section when you both arrived. They put her in a coma too after she flatlined during surgery. She hasn't woken up yet but she's stable and Eddie has been visiting her every day."
(Y/n) had immediate surgery to remove the baby and sort out the internal bleeding but she went into shock. Her heart stopped for one minute until they shocked her heart. A coma was the best way to let her recover and get blood transfusions and let her heal but they didn't want to bring her out of the coma too soon and cause further shock.
No one wanted her to be alone. Hen, Chimney and Eddie had done shifts to sit with her and keep an eye on her while Bobby and Athena rotated staying with Evan. They made sure neither one was ever alone and updated each other so everyone was in the loop.
"The baby?" A broken sound followed Evan's voice as his shoulders started to shake and his body hunched over. This didn't sound good to him. His wife was still in a coma, his baby had been born a month early and both of them had gone through extreme shock and trauma.
"You have a beautiful little girl. She's down in the neonatal unit, she's healthy and Maddie had stayed with her every day."
"I wanna see them."
Once the doctor cleared Evan to move and he was dressed in grey sweatpants and a matching hoodie, Evan was hobbling down the corridor with Bobby guiding him towards his daughter. He walked slightly hunched over to ease the ache in his chest and the throbbing in his shoulder and his legs felt like jelly about to come apart beneath him, but he forced himself to keep walking.
The two most important people in his life needed him; and he hadn't even met one of them yet.
Evan couldn't breathe. He paused in the doorway, clinging onto the door for dear life when his eyes locked on his sister. Maddie was stood in front of one of the incubators, a story book by her side and her hand stretched inside the incubator towards her niece.
She turned immediately when she heard a soft cry behind her. Tears flushed her face and she bolted forward, reaching her arms out just in time for Evan to fall into her arms so she could hold him up. His face tucked into her neck, his hands scrunched up her shirt in his fists and Bobby reached out to grab his torso so he didn't fully collapse onto Maddie or the floor.
"I'm so glad you're awake," Maddie whispered quietly, reaching a hand up to cup Evan's face as she grinned at him through tears. "Somebody wants to meet you."
She moved her hands to Evan's shoulders and with Bobby's help, they both guided his stumbling form over to a chair and eased him down before he collapsed into a heap on the floor.
Evan rubbed the base of his hands against his eyes to try and make the stinging pain go away and force the tears back so he could still see. He wanted a clear view of his daughter once she was placed in his arms.
It was almost like a wave of magic had washed over him when a tiny form was placed into the crook of his elbow. Evan curled his left hand into a fist to tense his arm and stop himself from shaking, he didn't want his daughter rattling in his arms and becoming afraid. He smoothed his index finger over her cheek, smiling through tears when he realised what she was wearing.
Maddie must have been to their apartment and gotten the hospital bag as well as pack a few things for Evan too. His daughter was wearing the pale cream baby grow Evan had picked out which said 'Daddy's Princess' on the front in golden letters. It looked a little big on her, but she was beautiful.
"And y-you're sure she's okay?" It didn't quite ring true for Evan that he had been in a coma, his wife was still in one and yet here was his precious little girl, perfectly fine, snoozing in his arms.
He knew he was lucky to have her here at all, but to see her look so perfect without any signs of injury or damage seemed too good to be true.
"She just needs a name,"
Maddie bent down on her knees and rested a hand on Evan's knee, staring up at him through tears. It felt weird to keep calling her 'little girl' or 'little lady' as Chimney had come to refer to her as. She needed a name but no one knew if Evan and (Y/n) had agreed on any names or not. Her ID bracelet said Baby Buckley which was endearing, but it wasn't a name.
A smile worked its way onto Evan's lips and he let out a breathless laugh while he continued to brush his finger against his daughter's cheek. They had names picked out and agreed on two months ago.
They decided to keep the gender a surprise, but they had agreed on a name for a boy and one for a girl.
"Madeline… after the person who raised me."
***
"Hi baby," Reaching his hands out, Evan took (Y/n)'s hand and interlocked his fingers with hers, bringing her hand up to rest against his lips. He ran his left hand up and down her arm, gliding his fingers over her skin in a way he knew would have tickled her if she were awake.
His shoulders hunched forward and he sat on the very edge of the chair until his knees were tucked beneath the bed like he was sat at the dining table.
The back of Evan's head was killing him, he felt like he had a thunderstorm taking place in his skull that was pounding to get out. There was a large square plaster stuck on the back of his head from the wound he received and he knew they had shaved part of his head to stitch it back up. When they got discharged he would need a buzz cut to grow his hair properly again.
Evan knew (Y/n) didn't like it when he shaved his hair.
"We uh, we've both been asleep for three days, it means you've finally gotten some rest though." He spoke quietly even though it was only the two of them in the room and his lips meshed against the back of (Y/n)'s hand.
She didn't look unwell from this angle.
She had the same tube up her nose as Evan had which he knew was a feeding tube while she was unconscious. She had IVs in and stickers on her chest in case they had to shock her heart again which Evan prayed they wouldn't. But (Y/n) didn't have any cuts or bruises on her face or her arms.
He was desperate to pull up her gown and see the damage to her abdomen, he knew already that it would be bad. Maddie told him what injuries she sustained. Her skin would be discoloured, bruised, stretched. Stitches would litter her abdomen beneath her belly button and healing was going to take a while.
Evan didn't like looking at (Y/n) and seeing a deflated stomach. He had grown so used to seeing the bump and kissing her stomach every morning and when he got back late from shift. He was used to rubbing his nose against her stomach and speaking to their baby. Seeing her stomach deflate like a popped balloon was unusual and Evan didn't like it.
He knew if they had gone through labour naturally, he wouldn't feel so uneasy about seeing her stomach like this. But their daughter had been born without either of them conscious to witness it. They had been so thrilled about having a baby and they missed the best part.
"We've got a baby girl, God, baby she's so gorgeous. She gets it from you. I told the nurse she's called Madeline- please don't wake up and tell me you've changed your mind, it's a bit too late now, I've already told everyone."
Evan had told the nurse so she could get forms ready and change the writing on the incubator from Baby Buckley to Madeline Buckley. And he knew it was just the news to cheer up his sister and thank her for watching over the three of them while they had been unwell. He prayed (Y/n) wasn't going to wake up and change her mind once she saw their daughter because Evan had set her name in stone now.
"So, I need you to wake up soon, baby. Because I don't know what to do with myself. I was supposed to coach you through this and then you'd tell me what to do and how to make everything work. I can't do this without you and I don't want to. I love you."
He brushed a hand against his eyes and took a deep, snuffly breath to try and clear his head.
"Please come back to me. I'm not moving until you do, I'll sit here and talk and talk and talk until you wake up and tell me to shut up."
"Excuse me… sir?"
Evan jolted awake, snapping his eyes open as a gasp burst past his lips like he had been resuscitated. He blinked rapidly, pushing himself up before wincing when a splitting agony coursed up his arm and through his shoulder.
He had fallen asleep. When did he fall asleep? The lights were on in the room and there were no windows leading outside. Evan couldn't tell whether it was still afternoon, if it was night or if he had stayed and slept through the night with (Y/n) and if it was now morning or not. Time had slipped away from him unknowingly.
His left arm ached from where he had been laid, he had fallen asleep in the chair with his head and chest flopped on the bed. And his left hand had still been tangled with (Y/n)'s fingers while his right hand was sprawled out over her thigh.
Evan looked up and tried to twitch his lips into a smile but he couldn't quite manage it. He assumed he had given the nurse a dirty look with the way she raised a brow and took a step away from him.
"Who are you?"
"Uh, who… Buck, I- no I mean, Buckley. Mr Buckley, her husband." Evan waved his hand around and shook his head to liven himself up. He wasn't lying, he was her husband. That was why he was tangled around her like a vine and why no one had kicked him out yet even though visiting hours had long since gone. Evan had come to find that none of the staff had kicked out any of the 118 when they stayed day and night with him, (Y/n) and Madeline.
No one dared.
"Oh, good, just the person we needed."
"Why's that?"
Her smile made Evan relax as he leaned back in the chair and clicked his spine into place. He stretched his arms out in front of him, trying to be careful of his shoulder and when he looked back up and the young nurse, she looked like she was itching with anticipation.
"We'd like to bring her out of the coma now."

The Buckley Siblings & Buckley Parents: Season 7
Maddie's getting married and Buck’s going to be in the wedding but... don't forget Margaret and Phillip will return to L.A. to attend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why is this important?
It's important because EVERY TIME the Buckley parents go to L.A., they're only there because Maddie invited them and EVERY TIME things don't go well for Buck.
Before I get started, I need to preface this for all the people who are going to say, "I thought Maddie's and Chimney's wEdDinG was sUpPoSEd to be about them"; it will be but please remember Buck is Maddie's brother and EVERY TIME the Buckley parents were in Los Angeles, Chimney was there with Maddie and Buck and he witnesssed those $hitshows in person. Also, this post is about the Buckley siblings and their parents and how things always unfold when they show up.
Let's stroll down 9-1-1 memory lane for a minute shall we...
Season 4 - they traveled to L.A. because Maddie was pregnant.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 4x4, Maddie was pregnant with Jee-Yun and after Buck returned from Austin, TX, she told him that she invited their parents because she wanted her daughter to have a normal family with grandparents who would be involved in her life. But Buck told her she should have gotten knocked up by a guy who had one of those. She responded she was willing to try and after some convincing, he agreed to try too.
Tumblr media
Here are the Buckley's arriving at Chimney's and Maddie's apartment and please look at Margaret's face. It's evident she didn't want to be there. They had dinner but it was awkward, especially since Maddie told their parents about Buck being in therapy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their second dinner turned into a $hitshow of epic proportions after they gave Maddie a baby box but they didn't have one for Buck.
Tumblr media
Before I move on, please take a look at how Margaret scowled at Buck. Her face was filled with a look of digust. I wonder why that is🤔?
Tumblr media
Their argument ended with Buck begging them to love him anyway.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end of 4x4, Maddie finally told Buck about Daniel and their conversation continued into 4x5.
Tumblr media
In 4x5, after Maddie revealed the truth about Daniel's Juvenile Leukemia, Buck was devastated and he stopped talking to her.
Tumblr media
Also, he told the 118 he was used for his "defective parts".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end of the episode, Buck apologized to them for not being able to save his brother but the audience didn't see them ask him to forgive them and IMO, that was on purpose.
Tumblr media
When he arrived at Maddie's and Chimney's he looked like he was all alone. But they talked and made up.
Season 6 - they traveled to L.A. to see Maddie's new house.
Tumblr media
In 6x10, Maddie told Josh her parents wanted to see their new house even though it wasn't finished being renovated but reminder, Margaret and Phillip loaned them the money for their down payment and that's why they wanted to see it. (Actually, they wanted to see Jee-Yun but they used the house as an excuse.)
Tumblr media
Before Buck, Maragret and Phillip arrived, Maddie said to Chimney, "You're right. We have nothing to worry about. It's not like anybody's going to drop any deep dark family secrets this time". 👀
There has to be a secret, otherwise she wouldn't have said that.
Tumblr media
After Buck picked them up from the airport, they only talked about the weather and after they arrived, Maddie went to get Jee-Yun and brought her into the living room. In the photo above, Buck's in the background and even though Maddie's in the foreground, she's partially in the dark about whatever secret Margaret and Phillip are keeping from both of them.
Tumblr media
When Margaret saw the sonogram on Buck’s phone, the look on her face was one of disbelief NOT SHOCK.
Tumblr media
It was almost like they COULDN'T BELIEVE BUCK GOT SOMEONE PREGNANT. 👀
Tumblr media
While they were there, Buck got struck by lightning.
Tumblr media
And he died for three minutes and seventeen seconds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Season 7 - They'll be in L.A. for the third time but it still won't be for Buck because they're going to Maddie's wedding.
It's likely they will be at the hospital to visit Chimney but what kind of chaos will ensue this time since EVERY TIME THEY SHOW UP, SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS TO BUCK?
Reminder, they only go to L.A. when it's for Maddie, i.e., her pregnancy, her new house and in season 7 it will be for her wedding. For whatever reason, in 4x4 they only had a baby box for Maddie 👀. And remember before they leave, something bad ALWAYS happens to Buck.
I have an idea of what might happen and why it will. My theory has EVERYTHING TO DO WITH BUCK’S BIRTH AND THE SPERM DONATION HE DID FOR CONNOR AND KAMERON. (But I'm still debating if I will post it. If I do, I'll post it before the season begins.)

Buck x reader - first names
Tumblr media
hii could you do a fem reader c evan buckley where she is the only one that calls him evan? and the others are like what did she call you? idk if that made any sense or will come out good but idk though id just ask - Anon💜
You had known him before you both had come to the firehouse.
You were two years older so you were the first one, then the moment your best friend had the chance he followed you there.
You always called each other nicknames, never had any of your team heard you call one another by your first or last names.
Not until today.
You watched you best friend try to get out of the hospital bed and you placed your hand in his shoulder gently pushing him back down.
“Don’t rush it.” You said.
“I’m fine!” Buck snapped at you.
“Hey, don’t speak to me I that tone Evan.” You snapped back.
You heard Hen cough up her coffee, and you turned around to look at them.
“What?”
“What did you call Buck?” Eddie asked.
“His name?”
You pushed Buck down down as he tired to get up and sat on the edge of the bed, laying yourself on his uninjured shoulder so he couldn’t move.
He huffed a little, but held your arm gently so you wouldn’t fall.
“Seriously guys, that’s me name.” He said.
“We know what, we want to know why (Y/N) used it.” Chim said.
“She’s always used it.” Buck mumbled confused.
They all stared at you both and moved closer, and they surrounded the bed.
They begs to interrogate you, asking you why you called him Evan and not Buck like they did.
They wanted to know every reason why, and you just shrugged a little.
“Guys it’s his name. Evan Buckley, I’ve always called him Evan. Just like I call Maddie by her name.”
“But you don’t call us by our names.” Hen challenged.
“But I’ve not known you since childhood.”
They all nodded in agreement but kept pestering for answers.
They were so sure there was more to the story and they wanted to know why you used Bucks first name so casually after all the nicknames you were using

9-1-1 REACTION
This week’s episode marks the 100th episode for 9-1-1 and it is a total banger! I figured nothing could get better than Bobby and Athena trapped inside an upside-down cruise ship, but this week’s episode walked up to the bar and said, “hold my beer”. If you’re reading this, you know exactly why this episode is truly *that girl* and I promise you we’re gonna talk about those last 4 minutes and 23 seconds that had us collectively clutching our pearls, pillows, and pets and left us with nary a hair on our scalps. We’ve got a lot of ground to cover so let’s not waste another second. This reaction is for the season 7, fourth episode “Buck, Bothered and Bewildered” which originally aired April 4, 2024. The episode was written by Andrew Meyers and Bradley Michael Marques and directed by actor turned directed Chad Lowe. Spoilers ahead!

“She has anthrax! Or glitter.” – Bachelor Producer, to everyone
Tumblr media
We start things off at the Bachelor mansion where we see real-life runner up of season 20 of The Bachelorette and star of season 28 of The Bachelor, Joey Graziadei. I have never seen an episode of The Bachelor, but I have watched the first two seasons of VH1’s Flavor of Love so I’m quite familiar with the concept of a bunch of women competing for the affections of one man. The opening to this episode does a great job of parodying the hit ABC dating and relationship reality television series while also being respectful. After all, the show and it’s many spin-offs are beloved by many, including 9-1-1 viewers.
We see a handful of hopeful contestants pull up to the mansion in limos, each of them providing a cheesy introduction very reminiscent of RuPaul’s Drag Race and the Real Housewives. I love that two of the contestants are named Ashley because of course there would be two Ashleys cast in the same season of a show like this. My favorite contestant, however, is Ashley A., a flight attendant who looks like she just stepped out of the one-season wonder Pan Am starring Christina Ricci, a pre-Barbie Margot Robbie, and Mike Vogel. Now that I think about it, wasn’t Pam Am an ABC show?
Tumblr media
The last contestant arrives with a bottle of glue and introduces herself as Conchata. Joey is all of us and asks her about her name because for those of you who haven’t seen the episode, this woman is the whitest shade of pale and is the last person I expect to have the name Conchata. The producers (played by Jamie Denbo and Rique) scramble behind the scenes trying to find out who this woman is because she is definitely not Conchata. The contestant comes clean about who she really is and introduces herself (again) as Bailey, an aesthetician from Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She takes the bottle of glue and pours it all over the cobblestone driveway. She then lies flat on the driveway in attempt to glue herself to the surface. Our two producers attempt to remove her, but her skin has adhered to whatever glue she poured on the ground.
Cue title card.
Tumblr media
“I love dalmatians.” – Ashley C., Bachelor contestant, to Evan Buckley and Eddie Diaz
Our favorite 911 dispatch, Maddie, gets a call from the season 5 bachelor and host of The Bachelor, Jesse Palmer. We learn Maddie and Josh (played by Bryan Safi) are uber fans of the show and I cracked up when Josh commandeered the phone call and started grilling Jesse about the new bachelor. Maddie deploys the 118 to the Bachelor mansion and it’s heavily insinuated the location of this particular emergency is outside of the area the department usually responds to. Way to keep it professional, you guys!
The 118 arrive on the scene and Chimney and Hen attend to Bailey (played by Sarah Fletcher). Chimney sees Joey and he is awestruck. I can totally see he and Maddie piling up on the living room sofa after they’ve put Jee-Yun to bed to watch The Bachelor. There’s a funny moment where the other contestants flirt heavily with Eddie and Buck. Eddie tells them he’s taken but points to Buck and says that he is single. Buck tells them he has a rule about not dating people he meets on calls which is hilarious considering he nearly got fired in the first episode of the series for taking one of the firetrucks to a booty call with a woman he saved.
Tumblr media
Eddie and Buck breakout the jackhammer to cut away the piece of driveway Bailey is stuck to so she can be transported to the nearest hospital. Meanwhile, Chimney answers a FaceTime call from Maddie and Josh who want to know the identity of the latest bachelor. Chimney flips the camera around and tries to be sneaky about filming Joey, but he gets caught. He ducks behind the limo Bailey pulled up in and sees another woman passed out in the backseat. We learn this is the real Conchata and she has been chloroformed by Bailey. Speaking of Bailey, as she is loaded into the ambulance, she yells for Joey to visit her in prison. Yeah, I don’t think Joey Graziadei is going to be visiting you, Bailey.
“That night was the most fun I’ve had since getting struck by lightning.” – Evan Buckley, to Tommy Kinard
Tumblr media
We next head over to Air Operations One which I’ve learned is a part of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Tommy Kinard (played by Lou Ferrigno Jr.), our former 118 firefighter turned helicopter pilot, is giving Buck a tour of the unit. I got so excited seeing these two share a scene together because it’s no secret that Buck is my favorite character on the show, and I really like how they’re brought Tommy back into the show this season. Buck is in awe of everything Tommy’s telling him, but the latter believes he has ulterior motives for being there. He asks if Buck is thinking about changing career paths. Buck tells him that he really got a thrill flying in the middle of a hurricane to save Bobby and Athena. It’s the most fun he’s had since getting struck by lightning.
Buck asks Tommy what got him into flying. Tommy tells him that he used to be a pilot in the Army. Buck lights up and tells Tommy that Eddie was in the Army, too. Tommy already knows this. Buck then tells Tommy that he met his ex (Taylor) responding to a helicopter crash and then realizes in that moment that maybe that was a sign of things to come. Tommy agrees that saving someone’s life and dating them never turns out the way you want it to. Upon second (and third) viewing of this episode, I find it interesting how the both of them are ambiguous about the genders of the people they are speaking about. Buck could’ve mentioned Taylor by name, but he chose to just say ex instead. Now back to the topic at hand, Buck says he isn’t sure if he’d want to leave where he is now to pursue being a pilot and Tommy assures him he can do both which seems to be the thesis of this episode. Tommy offers to teach Buck how to fly for fun. Buck offers to buy him a beer and Tommy says he’d love that. Again, how did I not pick up on the subtle flirtation the first time I saw this episode. These two’s chemistry is off the charts.
Tumblr media
However, our little meet cute is cut short when Eddie arrives. Eddie is surprised to see Buck there and asks Tommy if he got three tickets to the fight. Tommy says ‘no’ but he wishes he did. Here’s another thing I really liked about this scene. I’m sure, by now, Tommy knows that Buck goes by Buck but each time he addresses Buck he calls him ‘Evan’. I’ve always equated the characters on this show who refer to him as ‘Evan’ as having more of an intimate connection with him, i.e., Maddie his sister or Eddie his best friend. Anywho, Buck is surprised to learn that Tommy and Eddie have tickets to a big fight in Vegas and they’re taking one of the helicopters there. Now I have a question. If Buck wasn’t allowed to drive the firetruck to his hookups back in season one, how is Tommy flying to Vegas with Eddie in one of the LAFD choppers okay? Also, I didn’t know helicopters could fly that great of a distance. Anyway, Tommy and Eddie leave to board the helicopter and our poor Buck is left behind feeling both a little confused and a lot jealous.
“It is so good to have you back.” – Athena Grant, to Harry Grant
Tumblr media
Speaking of surprises, Athena does not sleep with her hair wrapped. No shade, but no Black woman I know is going to lay her head down at night without doing something to protect her hair. Okay, I’m gonna leave Athena alone because she is thrilled to have her son back home. Yes, you read that right. Harry Grant is back home but he looks a bit different. The character is now aged up played by a new actor – Elijah M. Cooper. Now, in case you forgot, Harry went to live with his dad in Florida back in season five and we really haven’t seen him since then. When Athena says she can’t believe Michael didn’t say anything about Harry coming to visit. Harry tells her his dad has been really busy and had to fly back to Haiti. Bobby is immediately suspicious of this because he figures that Michael would’ve called about something like this. Athena doesn’t seem to concerned about any of this and is basically just happy to have her youngest back under her roof.
“I saved a baby in a pipe once although it was a preemie and it didn’t speak.” – Evan Buckley, to everyone
Meanwhile, Buck, Eddie, and Ravi (played by Anirudh Pisharody) respond to an emergency at a restaurant where the dishwasher (played by Jibre Hordges) claims he hears a voice coming from inside the sink. Ravi doesn’t think it’s possible that someone could be trapped inside a drain but Buck reminds him of the time he pulled a newborn out of a sewer pipe. The firefighters do finally hear someone yelling for help and the restaurant manager (played by Cesili Williams) shows them footage of a motorcyclist being struck by a car and knocked into a storm drain.
Tumblr media
Buck, Eddie, and Ravi head outside and Ravi, being the newest member of the 118, is lowered down into a manhole to extract the poor guy. During this time, Buck grills Eddie about his outing with Tommy. He learns that in addition to going to Vegas, Tommy is also teaching Eddie the Muay Thai style of boxing and they’ve even worked on Eddie’s Chevelle together. Buck does his best to hide his jealously, but he can’t help pressing his best friend for more details. He asks Eddie when he plans on seeing Tommy again. Eddie tells him that Tommy has this karaoke/trivia thing he does on Wednesdays and asks Buck what his plans are for that day. Buck perks up and says his schedule is wide open. Eddie asks if he would watch Christopher for him. He would ask Marisol, but she’s already watched Christopher twice already. Yikes! So, a lot to unpack here. First, is Eddie using his girlfriend as childcare? Second, does this mean Buck’s level of importance to Eddie has decreased now that Tommy and Marisol are in the picture. Lastly, is Eddie really that oblivious? I get wanting to have a new friend, especially one who you have a lot in common with, but he knows Buck, or rather he should know Buck, and him saying these things, even though Buck technically asked him for this information, is hurtful for Buck to here. This, I’ve noticed, is a continuing trend of certain characters getting upset whenever Buck does something wrong, but having little to no regard when it comes to his feelings. This isn’t the first time Eddie has done something like this and I have to believe that he really is oblivious because the alternative means that he’s doing these things because he’s trying to get his friend all riled up. Of course, Buck agrees to watch Christopher because of course he’s going to watch Christopher.
“Is it circled with a heart around it?” – Maddie Buckley, to Evan Buckley.
Tumblr media
A few days later, Buck updates Maddie on Eddie’s new friendship with Tommy. Buck is so jealous of the new friendship that he’s gathering intel from Christopher. Although Buck is being a little bit extra about all of this, a part of me can relate to the emotions he’s feeling. He worries that Tommy has made such an impression on not only Eddie but Christopher in such a short period of time. What I find fascinating is that while Buck is jealous, he harbors no ill-will towards Tommy.  In fact, he agrees with Eddie and Christopher. Tommy is cool. Buck tells his sister that Christopher would not stop talking about Tommy. Maddie wonders if it’s because Buck kept asking him questions about Tommy. Buck mentions that Eddie has a date written down on his calendar and it’s for a weekly pick-up basketball game with Tommy and other first responders. The date is circled. Buck mentions that Eddie has asked him to this before. Maddie reminds Buck that he doesn’t like basketball and he agrees and says that’s why he always tells Eddie ‘no’ but now Eddie is going with Tommy. Chimney hears the tail-end of their conversation and tells Maddie that Tommy flew Eddie to Vegas for a fight in a chopper. Chimney teases Buck by saying that Tommy’s so cool.
“We have a problem.” – Bobby Nash, to Athena Grant
Tumblr media
Back over at the Grant-Nash household, Bobby tells Athena he talked to Michael. Michael is not in Haiti, and he also had no clue Harry had left and come to Los Angeles which means Harry lied to the both of them. Athena wonders why Harry would lie, and Bobby says it’s because the police is looking for him. They showed up to Michael’s house while he was on the phone with Bobby. Bobby tells his wife that Harry got into a fight and assaulted someone. There’s now a warrant out for his arrest due to him fleeing the jurisdiction. Yikes! Poor Athena. You think you know your kids.
“That’s Jeremy. That’s my son, he’s a doctor.” – Dorothy Nelson, to Athena Grant
Maddie receives a call from an older woman named Dorothy Nelson who is reporting an intruder in her home. Maddie instructs her to stay calm and tells her to find a place to hide until the police get there. The woman panics and tells Maddie she has a gun. Maddie tells her that arming herself can only make the situation she’s in more dangerous. Dorothy starts screaming and then we hear a gunshot.
Tumblr media
Athena, Hen, and Chimney arrive on the scene and find a man dead in the Dorothy’s living room. Chimney tends to her and learns she recently sustained a fall in her garden. Athena looks around the room and sees a photo on the mantle above the fireplace. She realizes the man in the photo looks an awful lot like the dead man on the floor. Hen posits Dorothy has face blindness which means she wouldn’t have been able to recognize the guy even if she does know him. This emergency reminds me of a similar one on Lone Star where a kid locked himself in the bathroom because his dad thought he was an intruder.
Athena goes over to Dorothy (played by Meagen Fay) and asks her if she recognizes the man in the photo. She tells Athena that the man in the photo is her son, Jeremy, and he’s a doctor. So, this lady has killed her own son, and the sad part is, she still thinks that it’s an intruder she shot. This is beyond sad, and I felt so bad for her. I also feel bad for Athena who will have to be the one to tell her the truth. Hen asks her if she can imagine looking into her own child’s face and not even recognizing him. Athena says yes she can.
“That’s how they wake you up in jail for sleeping in. Except the water won’t be clean and it probably won’t be water.” Athena Grant, to Harry Grant
Tumblr media
Athena returns home and confronts her son. I did not like the way Harry was talking to his mom and I was wondering why Athena didn’t slap him across his lips. Then I realized, she already did this back in season 5 when Harry started mouthing off at her. Athena is extremely patient in this scene while Harry tells her about the incident involving him assaulting a man. The man, in question, is the manager of a convenience store. Apparently this man was following Harry around while he was inside the convenience store and accused Harry of stealing. The man wouldn’t let Harry leave and got aggressive with him which is why Harry hit him. Harry is upset because he believes she is taking law enforcement’s side over his much like he thinks she did when his father was pulled over several seasons ago. Athena reminds him she is a cop, and he counters by reminding her that he is still his mom. He asks her which one is more important to her but says he already knows the answer to that question.
“Hey, what are you doing on Thursday?” – Evan Buckley, to Howard "Chimney" Han
Tumblr media
Over at the 118, Buck is trying his best to get Eddie’s attention, but the latter is too wrapped up in his phone call with Tommy. Buck tries to impress by bench-pressing a lot of weight but he’s clearly struggling with isn’t too believable for me because have you seen Buck? The guy is a tank! Ravi asks him if he needs help and Buck declines. I wish Buck wasn’t so short-sighted because as much as he wants Eddie and Tommy to notice him, I think Ravi wants Buck to notice him. For him, I think, Buck is the cool one. Chimney brings Buck a package addressed to an M. Buckley which I found funny because either Buck doesn’t have his own Amazon Prime account or maybe he shares one with Eddie and didn’t want his friend knowing what he’s ordering. Turns out, the item Buck has ordered is a new basketball. When Buck sees Eddie again, he suggests that they can get a basketball hoop. Eddie barely acknowledges this before returning to his conversation. Yeah, I’m beginning to think Eddie is doing this on purpose.
“He was shot when he was mistaken as an intruder.” – Athena Grant, to Dorothy Nelson
Tumblr media
Athena puts her cutest outfit and goes to see Dorothy Nelson at the hospital. She rips off the Band-Aid and tells Dorothy her son is dead. When Dorothy asks what happens, Athena tells her that he was killed because he was mistaken as an intruder. I like how Athena delivered this news because it wasn’t accusatory. She lets Dorothy figure out the rest and the moment it dawns on her that she is the one who killed Jeremy she is rightfully devastated. Kudos to the actress playing Dorothy Nelson because she really sold this scene for me. This is the most devasting thing I’ve seen on this show since the story back in season 5 where two best friends were struck during the middle of a parade and one of them died. The scene ends and I’m left wondering what will become of this woman. I can’t imagine the pain she’ll have to live with knowing she killed her son.
“So, I’m your basketball beard. I feel so bonded.” – Howard “Chimney” Han, to Evan Buckley
Tumblr media
Buck convinces Chimney to go with him to the pick-up basketball game. Buck pretends to be surprised to see Eddie and Tommy there. Eddie asks Chimney how he managed to talk Buck into playing basketball because every time he asks him, he says ‘no’. Chimney decides to play coy and tells Eddie he has his ways. I love seeing Chimney being supportive of Buck because very soon they are going to be brothers-in-law. The two square off against Eddie and Tommy and the latter are dominating. Buck lets his jealousy get the better of him and trips Eddie up right as he’s about to make a lay-up. We hear something pop as Eddie falls to the ground. Chimney goes into paramedic mode and assesses Eddie’s injury. He thinks Eddie may have a fracture or sprain. Tommy says that Eddie rode with him, so he’ll be the one to take him to urgent care. Eddie gives Buck a hurt look and Buck immediately feels horrible. Tommy lifts Eddie up and takes him away. Chimney looks at Buck and says, “Well you bucked that up, didn’t you?” Geez, I really feel bad for Buck. He is spiraling!
“It seems unjust, but in reality that’s just the way it is.” – Athena Grant, to Harry Grant
Tumblr media
With a cooler head, Athena decides to talk to her son. He apologizes for how he spoke to her. He tells her he is not sorry for hitting the convenience store manager. Athena reminds him that he is not only representing himself and their family, but also his community, which means he can’t go around punching people. He tells her that’s a lot of pressure, but she says that’s the reality of the world they live in. She tells him has to be smarter and he asks her if that means he’s not allowed to be angry. Athena tells him it’s okay to be angry because at the end of the day, he’s a human and that’s what humans do – they get angry when they are upset. However, she reminds him that things could have been worst for him. What if the convenience store manager had a gun? Harry asks her what would have been the right thing for him to do in the situation and I like that Athena admits she doesn’t know. At the end of the day, you have to do whatever you have to do to make it home alive. That’s sentiment is so sad to me but as a Black man living in America, in the South to be specific, I totally get it. It’s not fair but it is what it is.
Athena shows him the footage of what happened at the convenience store. Harry watches as the manager confronts him and even gets aggressive. He also sees himself punch the man. It’s sobering for him to see this video. He says it’s like watching someone else. Athena tells him that everyone has something they’ve done that they aren’t proud of (you hear that Buck?) but the true test of character is being able to face the consequences of one’s actions. Harry tells her he doesn’t know what to do and she tells him they’ll figure it out together. Whatever happens, she will be right there with him because he is her son, and she loves him no matter what.
“I’m not a fourteen-year-old girl.” – Evan Buckley, to Maddie Buckley.
Tumblr media
Buck brings Maddie lunch at the dispatch center and catches her up on what happened with Eddie.  She asks Buck how Eddie is feeling, and he tells her he doesn’t know because he hasn’t talked to him. Maddie is surprised to hear this considering Buck and Eddie are so close. Buck tells her he doesn’t think Eddie wants to hear from him since he’s the one who hurt him. Maddie says it’s an accident, but Buck tells her he was pissed about Eddie and Tommy hanging out so much that he allowed his jealousy to get the better of him. He’s the reason why Eddie got injured. Buck says he was only trying to get his attention. Maddie tells him that is not the way to get someone’s attention. When I first watched this scene, I thought Maddie was going a little overboard with her disapproval of what Buck did. Then I realized, violence is how her husband Doug would get her attention back when they were married. Buck tells her he feels awful for what he did to Eddie, and she tells him not to do it again.
She admits she knows how he feels because she had a similar situation with her best friend growing up. Her friend became friends with another girl and Maddie did everything she could, including dyeing her hair blonde and attempting to change her name, to get her friend to notice her. It never occurred to her that she could have still been friends with her friend even if her friend was friends with someone else. Maybe they could have all been friends. But Maddie was too jealous to realize this. The situation made her look desperate, and she would’ve been better off just explaining to her friend how she felt.
“It’s good to see you Harry.” – Captain Elaine Maynard, to Harry Grant
Tumblr media
Athena accompanies Harry to the police station, and they are met by Captain Elaine Maynard (played by Claudia Christian). The captain tells Athena and Harry she spoke with the Miami Dade Police Department, and they have no interest in extraditing for a misdemeanor assault. However, both jurisdictions recommended Harry remain in Los Angeles with Athena and complete 100 hours of community service. Harry is surprised he isn’t going to jail but Athena makes it known that him being under her watchful eye will be worse.
“It’s not like I could ever replace you.” – Tommy Kinard, to Evan Buckley
Tumblr media
Now, we’ve finally made it to my favorite scene of the episode. We head over to Buck’s loft. There’s a knock at the door and when he goes to check, he finds Tommy on his doorstep. Tommy asks if they can talk, and Buck invites himself inside. I love the subtle detail of Tommy being in awe of Buck’s loft. Buck offers him a drink and reminds him that he owes him a beer. Tommy declines and says he won’t be staying long. He tells Buck he wants to clear the air between the two of them and he didn’t want to do so over the phone or through a text message. Tommy calls him Evan and says it was never his intention to cause any bad blood between him and Eddie. Buck assures him there’s no bad blood and owns up to his bad behavior. He tells him that he and Eddie make perfect sense as friends. Tommy agrees and reminds Buck that Eddie can have more than one friend.
Tommy says that he would never be able to replace him. He says that Christopher cannot shut up about Buck. I love the smile on Buck’s face when Tommy says this because it’s a reminder that Buck, seven seasons later, still craves the approval and the acceptance of those around him. Even Christopher. Buck asks Tommy if Eddie is mad at him. Tommy tells him Eddie is not mad at him. If anything, he feels bad (they both do) for excluding Buck. He tells Buck that he and Eddie hanging out was never about Buck, but Buck says that’s the problem. He admits he can get pretty jealous. I’m so proud of Buck for just owning everything in this scene. Lisa Rinna would be proud.
Tumblr media
Tommy admits that Buck isn’t the only one who’s been jealous. Buck is surprised to hear this. Tommy explains that he’s jealous of what’s become of the 118. When we were first introduced to Tommy, it was back during the ‘Begin’ episodes for Hen, Chimney, and Bobby. The 118 didn’t use to be the family it is now. In fact, the previous captain went out of his way to cultivate a highly toxic environment and it’s because of Chimney, Hen, and Bobby that the team is what it is today. It’s the reason why Buck and Eddie and Ravi were able to be accepted right away without having to be hazed by the other firefighters. Tommy admits he wishes he were a part of what the 118 has become and Buck reminds him that he is. He reminds Tommy of how he made fake mouth static at the fire chief during their daring mission to save Bobby and Athena. Tommy says he’s renowned for his fake mouth static, but Buck says it wasn’t very convincing. The banter between these two men is so cute I could actually explode. Buck tempers his teasing by reminding Tommy that he was willing to put his job on the line to help the rest of them out. That was the moment Buck realized that Tommy was cool and that he liked him. He tells Tommy that’s the reason he called him for the tour. It’s not because he’s thinking about leaving the 118; it’s because he wanted to get to know him. It’s Tommy’s turn to be surprised. Buck says things took a turn when Eddie arrive, but he understands why Tommy wants to hang with Eddie. It was so cute the way Buck gushes about how great Eddie is that he’s known Eddie is great since the first day he worked with him. Aww! At this point, I’m literally yelling at my TV.
“That was better than fake mouth static.” – Evan Buckley, to Tommy Kinard
Tumblr media
The flirting is turned up to level 100 when Buck tells Tommy it’s his attention he’s been trying to get and frankly he’s exhausted. Again, Tommy is surprised to hear this. Buck reminds him that he maimed his best friend, and that Maddie told him there are better ways to get someone’s attention. Before Buck can even finish the statement, Tommy leans in and kisses him. There’s a brief hesitation in Buck, most likely because he is shocked, the Buck starts to kiss him back. This moment was beyond shocking to me and even now, three days later, I still have to watch the clip to remind myself that Tommy kissed Buck and Buck definitely kissed him back. I spent years thinking something like this would never happen and I’ve gone back and forth with Buddie shippers online telling them that Buck or Eddie coming out as anything other than straight was an impossibility. Yeah, maybe that was the case when 9-1-1 was on FOX but this is a new network baby and ABC said, let them boys kiss! And yes, it’s not Eddie and Buck that are kissing but in my opinion, this is an even better direction for the characters to go in. I’ve always believed that if either character were to come out as queer, it would be Buck. We’ve only seen Buck in relationships with women, but he’s always struck me as someone who is open to whatever experiences come his way. Perhaps this explains why he's always had difficulty in the relationships he’s pursued on the show. Eddie, on the other hand, is a lot more reserved than Buck and the writers are going to have to put in work to convince me he is anything other than a heterosexual man. I’m not saying it’s out the realm of possibility, but I think the writers did a good job getting us where we are now, and they’ll need to do the same for Eddie in the future should that be the direction they want to go in for that character. Also. bringing Tommy into the equation is a brilliant move on their part because rewatching those ‘Begin’ episodes, there are insinuations there that he may be gay or bisexual.
Tumblr media
Okay, back to the scene. The way Tommy is looking at Buck gives me all the feels. The way he’s looking at Buck tells me that if he didn’t have to leave for his shift, they would be going at it on Buck’s new sofa. I’m so happy this isn’t just a one-sided interest. After the kiss, Tommy asks Buck if he’s okay with the moment they just shared. Buck is looking every bit of the bewildered that’s a part of the title of this episode. He tells Tommy that the kiss was better than his fake mouth static. Tommy tells him he has a shift, but he wants to take Buck out on a proper date. Buck tells him he’s free and man is that statement layered. Free to go out. Free to be who he wants to be. Free to kiss anyone he wants to kiss. Tommy tells Buck he will come around on Saturday at eight to pick him up. Tommy goes to leave but before opens the door, he tells Buck to call Eddie. We end the scene with Buck looking the happiest he’s looked in a long time.
This episode is hands down one of the best of the series and that’s just not recency bias. I feel that way about all the episodes we’ve gotten this season. 9-1-1 is firing on all cylinders at this point and things feel fresh and new again. The plot with Athena and Harry was perplexing at first but then I grew to like it by the end. I like that the show reminds us that Athena being a Black woman and a cop is controversial, especially in today’s climate, and I like that her kids aren’t afraid to call her out. I love seeing Athena reckon with both identities and how they relate to each other. I especially loved her conversation with Harry because it’s very reminiscent of conversations I’ve had with my own mom. Her telling Harry that it’s unfair that he has to always be on his best behavior but necessary rang so true to me. Athena has always known this, even before she had kids, yet she chooses to continue to work within a system that reinforces this kind of thinking.
Tumblr media
The storyline with Buck was also fun. It was a nice balance to the sadness of the story with the woman killing her son on accident. I like how Buck is never afraid to be vulnerable, even if it’s to his detriment. I hope we get a conversation between him and Eddie next episode because I love their friendship and I don’t want it to ever change, and something tells me Buck is going to lean heavy on his friendship with Eddie now that he might be dating Tommy. And I hope that Eddie continues to be supportive of his friend when he finds out the truth about his sexuality. I don’t think Eddie would have a problem with it. After all, Hen is an out and proud lesbian, and we also have Josh who is gay. I do know that some people do question the legitimacy of bisexual people but again, I don’t think Eddie will have a problem with whatever Buck labels himself as. Maybe we’ll even get a double date between Eddie, Marisol, Buck, and Tommy. That would be fun.
Lastly, I wanted to talk about Buck and Tommy. I think the show did a great job getting us to the moment where they shared a kiss this episode. As I mentioned earlier, I have seen this episode quite a few times and I’ve watched the scenes involving Buck and Tommy more than that. If you watch the scene where Buck is visiting Tommy, there’s so many little looks the two are giving each other. I think at that point that Buck is only infatuated but Tommy is clearly interested. Also, if you go back to the previous episode, at the end once everyone has been rescued, there’s a look Buck gives when he is telling Tommy goodbye. I love things like that and it’s proof to me that this isn’t just gaybaiting or queerbaiting. This is the show telling us that one of their beloved characters is queer and they have taken special care with letting us know that. I love how Oliver Stark and Lou Ferrigno Jr. are invested in this story. In fact, the cast is supportive of Buck going in this direction. I’m so happy that the fans have this moment. It’s been so fun engaging with people online about this episode and while there are viewers who have and will balk at Buck being a queer character, I say screw those people. If a character’s sexuality can make you that upset, you clearly haven’t been watching the show and you’re not a fan.
Okay, this reaction has gone on way too long. I’ll say it one last time. I’m so happy Buck is bi!!!! I can’t wait to see what happens next! Until next time …

just some 9-1-1 headcanons/plot bunnies
so i've kinda gone on a 9-1-1 deep dive that started out casual and rapidly turned into an obsession. a few things to note, i definitely think that buck and eddie have something (whether it's romantic or queerplatonic is up for grabs but there's something beyond friendship there and no one can convince me otherwise) and i am a strong subscriber to any tropes that strongly encourage found family/families so...make of that what you will
anyway, after binging all of the available episodes, i have several headcanons that i want to put out there (for some reason a lot of them are from season 5???)
ana realizing that there's more to eddie and buck's relationship than it seems in that scene from s5e2 when she brings christopher to the station. buck clocks that eddie has started panicking immediately and ana just like. *looks* at him for a few seconds in a way that just makes me think that this woman clocked that they have a deeper than normal connection to one another. that or she's heard about buck but obviously has never seen eddie and buck interact and is suddenly realizing exactly what people keep trying to tell her about
a buck/eddie-focused exploration of the aftermath of 'brawl in cell block 9-1-1'. buck freaking out once mitchell's been carted off to get his heart taken out and refusing to let eddie go anywhere while checking him for injuries, eddie having some uncomfortable realizations about just how affected buck was by the whole experience. personally, i feel that would lead to them actually talking about the sniper and all the mess that goes with it
lots of potential for temporary angst with eddie having a lot of big feelings about having failed as a husband in his marriage to shannon and not wanting to get married again b/c of it (thinks he doesn't deserve another shot at it? thinks there's something fundamentally wrong with him to where he can't? don't know how this would manifest exactly). personally, i see this eventually leading to him and buck realizing that they're more or less functionally married and they may as well reap some tax benefits from it but you can do whatever you want with that
buck goes to the funerals of many of the people who die on calls that he's a part of. it's mostly people that he directly worked on and he doesn't tend to tell anyone that he's a first responder that was involved (b/c of how devon's sister reacted in s1) but he does go to them.
kinda of tied to the headcanon above this but! buck getting adopted by a bunch of older queer folk following the deaths of mitchell and thomas in s2. he goes to the joint funeral that was planned for the two of them, in part b/c he wants/needs to and in part bc he accidentally took a few photos from the scrapbook from the scene (he shoved them in his pocket on instinct when thomas collapses). anyway, he shows up and the older queer community has rallied to show up at the funeral and they recognize him as someone who needs more found family and just adopt him into their ranks. i could see the 118 finding out about this soon after it happens or not until years later; maybe karen and hen finding out sooner than everyone else but buck asks them to keep it quiet?
s5e14 where jee-yun gets sick? what if it actually WAS leukemia and she somehow ends up needing some sort of donation (plasma? bone marrow? idk really anything about how cancer is treated). jee's put on a list and they start testing family members, none of whom work out until...buck. cue maddie not wanting to ask that of buck b/c of all the baggage that comes with daniel and the buckley parents are absolute assholes about it (along the lines of completely disregarding buck's autonomy as a human being in the face of their precious granddaughter being in trouble), maybe a chimney that isn't trying to be pushy about it but also just...can't help pushing a bit, a buck that so overwhelmed with everything that he's feeling that he goes off the rails a bit. obviously everything works out and buck donates or whatever needs to happen and jee-yun is completely fine b/c i don't actually want it to end badly
the entire 'buck's a sperm donor' family argument and maraget saying "you're a miracle baby yourself" made my fucking blood boil and i want to see a better exploration of the fallout of that statement b/c you just know that there was more to it than it just getting brushed off
buck telling maddie that he has a checklist that he goes through every time he wakes up post-coma in s6e12. chris and eddie being part of that list, where buck is just constantly checking up on them to make sure that they're still in LA (part of the reason why it's so easy for him to fall asleep/relax on the diaz couch or in their house in general). eddie doesn't notice the uptick in check-ins b/c he's too busy figuring out the least intrusive ways for him to check in on buck at all times b/c he NEEDS to know that buck is alive/breathing. once eddie notices though, he confronts buck about it
maddie asking buck to be her maid of honor for her wedding since hen is obviously going to have best man privileges. mostly just exploring the ridiculous that this brings up and everyone joking about buck in a dress (up to you whether he actually wears one to the wedding or not), but i have to include a side note that the buckley parents are dicks about it and have no sense of humour/fun
literally anything featuring athena being worried about buck as a maternal figure, i was so disappointed by her lack of interaction when buck was struck by lightning and, while i'm so fucking happy to have may acknowledging that buck is bobby's son too, we missed out on athena being devastated by the situation as well
there will probably be more of these to come at some point knowing myself.

I just realised something but I might just be slow on that take but, ana called eddie Edmundo and Tommy is calling buck Evan... and that parallel is really something....
No legit like I think the excessive “evan”s from Tommy HAVE to be a little hint a little wink wink or something because the writers spent 7 seasons establishing the significance of names specifically Buck’s name and complicated relationship with being called Evan
Like time and time again we saw that it’s SIGNIFICANT:
• Buckley parents hating nicknames
• Him telling his parents people who know him call him buck
• His very first interaction with the 118 being him establishing himself as buck and then the little look when he sees how easily bobby accepts that
• Then the ONLY exceptions being Maddie and Eddie in the will scene
Ofc I’ve been thinking about this A LOT and my little English bisexual heart can think of a couple of ways that Tommy using Evan could be significant but the main ones are either:
A- it’s meant to reiterate that while he’s the right person for right now he doesn’t KNOW him like that, like it’s meant to kinda seperate him in our minds if that makes sense
B- foreshadow conflict in that relationship- though with the interviews I think this is HIGHLY unlikely because it seems like they want buck to have a nice little relationship as part of his self discovery journey
C- and I think this is most likely and also the nicest one tbh I think that like it’s meant to symbolise like tommy speaking to buck as a whole if that makes sense
Like Evan is the most vulnerable version of buck and the fact that Tommy is speaking to Evan could be intentional
Like I can go on about inner child and the significance of names and stuff but I think I’m getting my idea across? (Hopefully😭😭)
Like because Tommy brings out that self discovery I think the symbolism could be significant and purposeful
Now that being said I do admit it did rub me the wrong way the same way ana’s Edmundo did but if we do dissect it and look at it from a symbolic/ writing perspective it’s actually really interesting unlike the Ana version😭😭

Buck quickly checked himself out in the rearview before getting out of his car. Seeing if he looked good. Once he was satisfied, he quickly undid his seat belt. Taking the keys out of the ignition. Grabbing the food container on the passenger seat. He reached down and grabbed his overnight bag.
He checked to see if the lights were off. After checking they were, he got out of his car. Shutting the door and locking it.
Rushing over to his best friend's apartment complex front entrance. Punching in the code for the door. The door unlocked. He grabbed the door handle. Balancing the food container against his arm and side, he opened the door. He walked inside. Using his body to close the door.
He ascended the stairs quickly. Anyone would think he was rushing to his apartment so he could use the toilet.
Buck felt his heart racing as he finally got to the floor of your apartment. He didn’t know why his heart was racing. Maybe it was the way you made him feel. He knew he had feelings for you, feelings that a best friend shouldn’t have. He didn’t say anything because he feared rejection, and he didn’t want to lose you as his best friend. You understood him, you were there for him if he lost you he would be lonely.
Buck finally reached your apartment. Putting his overnight bag down so he could knock on your door.
The door swung open revealing your neighbour inside.
“Oh it’s buck,” She beamed. Grabbing the side of his cheeks. Slightly shocking him.
She looked behind her to see what you were doing. Then looked back up. She lowered her voice so only he could hear.
“You should ask her out,” She spoke. Buck let out a scoff.
“I don’t have feelings for her she is my friend,” Buck denied. Only making her scoff at this boy's stubbornness. Though you were stubborn too. She may be old but she could tell Buck and you had feelings for each other. Feelings that weren’t platonic.
“If you keep telling yourself those lies you will never get her,” She spoke.
Both of them heard the sound of footsteps approaching.
“Buck,” You beamed, as you came into view. Buck beamed at you. Making your neighbour smirk.
Buck and you quickly hugged each other. To your neighbour, she thought it was a little bit longer than what a friend should. Almost like Buck and you didn’t want to separate when Buck and you did. She decided to leave. Hopefully, her words to Buck would encourage him to shoot his shot.
“I will leave you and Buck to it, Happy holidays,” she spoke, as she hugged both of you. Before she left she whispered in both your ears to make a move.
When she left Buck grabbed his overnight bag and walked inside.
“This is for you, it’s dessert, I made it, well I didn’t make it Maddie made it, I helped though,” He rambled. Making you giggle.
He placed the food container in the fridge. Turning to face you. You were leaning against the counter. Staring at him with amusement in your eyes, and something else.
“Do you need any help?” Buck asked. You shook your head.
“Everything is done, just have to wait for the chicken to cook, so, all we have to do is relax, want to watch a movie?” You spoke.
“You always outdo yourself, one day I’m going to help you out,” He spoke. Walking closer to you.
“Keep dreaming,” You teased. Buck tickled your sides making you let out a gasp and then giggles. Begging him to stop. When he did you realized how close he was to you. Both of you stared at each other. The only sound that could be heard in the room was his breathing as well as yours. Hearts pounding.
Taking your bottom lip in between your teeth. Your neighbour's words swirl around in your mind. Telling you to go for it, that you will regret it, but you were scared he wouldn’t feel the same way.
“Let’s watch the movie,” You spoke. Breaking the silence and pulling away from him. Buck nodded his head. Making you smile. You took a hold of his hand. Butterflies swarming in your stomach as well as his, you quickly lead him into the living room.
“You pick, I’m going to get us something to drink and eat,” You spoke. Handing him the remote, you then walked to the kitchen.
Lucky for you, you couldn’t see the living room from there. You pressed your back to the wall, letting out a shaky breath. Evening your breathing. Until it was steady enough for you to go back to him.
Unbeknownst to you, Buck was doing the same thing…
LIKES ARE AWESOME, BUT COMMENTS/FEEDBACK ARE GEMS! HOPE YOU GUYS LIKED IT!

Gen/Canon Pairings (+ Buddie) — Zombie apocalypse AU
I recently started rewatching The Walking Dead, which lead me to replaying Days Gone, and now I'm on a zombie apocalypse binge.
Zombie apocalypse AU - Who lives? Who dies? Is there a Daryl Dixon/Deacon St. John like character? Is the fire house a good safe zone (even in the middle of LA)?
Go wild, nonnies!
Fill: None

my dearest rennnnnn, whaaat if you did a combination of soft prompts; 22. reunion hug and 37. ‘I missed you’ <333
Hi Amy ily please enjoy this little piece of clothes thief Eddie fic <3
[Read on AO3]
They argue about it on Sunday night, bitter and low so they don’t wake the kids.
“Why does it have to be you?” Eddie asks, and he knows it’s not fair, he knows, but he can’t help the words. Can’t help the way he wants to tug on the thread that ties them together, tug Buck right into his arms and hold him, hold him, hold him.
“Why shouldn’t it be me?” Buck throws back, and it doesn’t mean the same thing it used to—it has to be me so it isn’t anybody else—but something that is harder to argue with: why shouldn’t it be me, when it has to be someone? when everyone else will be taking the same risks? when you’d do the same thing, if you could? when we’ve both done it before?
Eddie wants to argue that it’s different now. That they’re married now. That they have kids now. But it’s not like they’re the only ones. It’s not like Hen wasn’t married with a kid when she went to Texas with them. Not like Eddie didn’t have Chris to think about then as well. Not like any number of other firefighters aren’t in exactly the same situation, a lot of them without even the luxury of choice about being out there in the thick of it.
“I don’t want you to go,” is all he has to say. It’s not enough, not a reason, but if he could tear open his chest and rip out his beating heart to give Buck a reason to stay, he would.
The fight drains out of Buck’s shoulders first, slumping, then the rest of him. He closes the distance between them and pulls Eddie into a hug, holding tight.
“I know,” he murmurs against Eddie’s hair. “I’m sorry.”
But he doesn’t say he’ll stay.
Eddie doesn’t ask him to again.
****
The temperature in LA sits above ninety for a week straight. Most days, it pushes past ninety-five, the nights barely cooling down before the sun rises again and the heat rises with it. It’s far too hot for wearing layers or long-sleeves, but four days after Buck leaves to fight wildfires in Northern California, Eddie finds himself turning the A/C down a few degrees so the house is cold enough to justify pulling one of his husband’s hoodies out of the closet and putting it on, even if it’s only for a few hours.
“You’re moping, dad,” Christopher informs him at the dinner table, halfway to an eye roll. Only halfway, despite being well into his teenage years, because Eddie knows that he’s missing Buck as well. That he’s worried about Buck as well.
“I’m not moping,” Eddie tells him, even though they both know he kind of is. “Eat your broccoli.”
Christopher does roll his eyes that time, but he also eats the broccoli, so. A win for parenting. Eddie isn’t above counting even the smallest of victories there.
Isaac isn’t old enough yet to really understand where his dad has gone, or what he’s doing. He sits in front of the TV and talks to the news anchors as easily as he does to his cartoons, but it’s all just moving pictures. To his three year old mind, the wildfires are just on the TV. Eddie is torn between sheltering his kid and bracing for the possibility that the next time his phone rings, it will be someone telling him that he needs to explain to his sons why one of their dads is never coming home again.
“Buck will be fine,” Maddie Buckley tells him, sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee while Jee-Yun entertains her younger cousin with a puzzle in the living room.
Eddie wants to believe her. He wants to believe everyone who has said some variation of those words to him since the call for volunteers went out and Buck’s hand went up, but—
“How do you know?”
There’s something in the way Maddie smiles that makes her look like Buck. Somehow, even after a decade of knowing her, it surprises Eddie every time he sees it.
“He has to be fine,” she answers simply. “He knows he has to be.”
He knows he has to come home, she means. And Eddie already knew that, he did, but—it helps, hearing the conviction in someone else’s voice as well, even if they are both lying to themselves about how much control anyone, even someone as stubborn as Buck, can have over a wildfire. He hugs Maddie extra tight at the door before she leaves, and she doesn’t ask why, just hugs him back just as tight, both of them holding, holding, holding.
It’s too hot for layers or long sleeves, but Eddie sleeps in one of his husband’s t-shirts every night, closing his eyes and hugging Buck’s pillow to his chest, and lying to himself about how much it helps.
****
The heatwave has finally broken when Buck calls, ten days after leaving, and the first thing he says is, “I think I’ll be home soon.”
It’s another three days, though, before it actually happens. Eddie is stuck at work, driving everyone crazy with the anticipation crawling under his skin as he watches the clock tick down the last twelve hours of their shift. There’s a text on his phone from Carla: a photo of Buck kneeling on the floor, bag at his feet like he just came through the door, one arm around Chris and the other around Isaac. And another text from Buck, timestamped a few minutes later: I love you, I’ll see you when you get home.
“Go,” Bobby says, when the clock hits seven-thirty the next morning.
Eddie hesitates. “We still have half an hour—”
“Go,” the captain repeats. “Give Buck a hug from all of us too. Tell him you’re all coming to dinner at our place tomorrow night.”
Eddie stays just long enough to hug Bobby, quick and hard, and he doesn’t even bother changing before he grabs his bag and leaves the station.
****
The house is quiet when he lets himself in. Eddie toes his shoes off and drops his work bag in the laundry, then eases open bedroom doors to check on first Chris, then Isaac, both sleeping peacefully. He closes the doors as gently as he opened them, socked feet silent on the floorboards as he moves towards the master bedroom. Anticipation makes his fingers tingle as he reaches for the doorknob, a tiny part of him sure that he’s going to open it and find nothing but an empty bed. There’s the photo from Carla, and the text from Buck, and the phone call before his flight home, the text when he landed in LA—but that tiny part of Eddie’s brain can’t quite believe it until he pushes open the door and finds his husband sleeping on the other side.
He’s smiling wide enough to make his cheeks ache before he has even stepped into the room. Jeans and shirt are stripped quickly, and he should really shower since he didn’t do it at the station, but Eddie can’t think of anything except slipping under the covers on his side of the bed and getting his hands on Buck, whole and warm and alive.
“Hi,” he whispers, when Buck stirs under his touch, mumbling sleepily. “I missed you.”
Buck is smiling back at him before his eyes are fully open, blinking past the bleariness of sleep to bring Eddie into focus.
“Hi,” he echoes, fuzzy around the edges. “I missed you too.”
Eddie runs a hand up his side, half a welfare check, and pushes back his hair, cupping the back of Buck’s head as he leans in to kiss him. It’s not meant to be anything more than a gentle greeting, but Buck makes a sound in the back of his throat, aching and desperate, and pulls Eddie back in when he starts lean away.
They don’t surface for a long time.
Long enough that there is movement somewhere in the house—probably Chris, half-awake and hungry—and Eddie rolls quickly out of bed to lock the door before any children come looking for them, while Buck laughs at him from the bed.
“I haven’t seen you in two weeks, Eds,” he says, grinning, “locking the door should have been the first thing you did.”
Eddie finds a pair of boxers on the floor and throws them at him, but there’s a giddy kind of laughter bubbling in his chest as well; one part adrenaline from the race to the door, most parts joy at having Buck back and laughing in their bed.
“I was a little distracted,” he reminds Buck. “I haven’t seen my husband in two weeks, remember?”
He crawls back onto the bed and Buck pulls him in, stitching them together at every point, holding just for the sake of holding. Eddie kisses him again, because he can, on the lips and the tip of his nose and the pink smudge over his eyebrow.
“I love you,” he says quietly, so close Buck will be able to feel the words against this skin. He wants to say please don’t leave me to fight wildfires again but he doesn’t. Can’t. If it’s something Buck feels like he needs to do again, Eddie can’t be the person who stands in his way.
Buck smiles, fingers tracing the lines of Eddie’s face; the dark smudges under his eyes, the dimple in his cheek, the scar barely visible at the edge of his hairline.
“I love you too,” he replies, just as soft, and Eddie feels the warmth of the words against his skin.
There’s a distant clatter, the sound of pots or pans in the kitchen, and they both wait, listening, but there is no call for help. There is more clattering, but  it’s the controlled kind, an everyday cooking kind of noise, and Eddie guesses Chris is going to rope them into making pancakes any minute with a cajoling, see dad, I already got out everything we need.
They’ve got a minute before that happens though. Maybe two, or three, or four. Eddie closes his eyes, breathing in the scent of Buck’s shampoo and something else he must be imagining, something smokey and faintly sweet like young wood. It can’t be real, he knows Buck will have washed his hair at least three times before he even got to the airport, the same way he does after a house fire, scrubbing every inch of skin until the smell of fire is gone. He wouldn’t have hugged the kids until he was sure he didn’t smell like wildfire anymore, but Eddie still imagines he can smell it.
Those words are still sitting on the tip of his tongue—please don’t leave me again—but he swallows them back.
“We should get up,” Buck says, but he doesn’t move.
Eddie hums, half agreement, and holds him closer. “In a minute.” Or two, or three, or four. “We’ve got time.”
Buck’s arm is warm over his waist, his chest rising and falling slowly, his heart beating steady against Eddie’s. So much better than a pillow, or a sleep shirt, or a hoodie. Eddie takes a deep breath, breathing it all in, and for the first time in two weeks he holds, and holds, and holds.
Wrapped around him, the thread between them so tangled that Eddie can’t be sure where it begins and ends, Buck takes his own deep breath, breathing it all in, and hugs back just as tight.

Obsessed with the couch metaphor callbacks in 6x15
It’s so incredibly obvious that Chris falling asleep on the couch was meant to mirror Buck. They are filmed the exact same way: camera follows Eddie into the kitchen, we stay with him there for a moment, then switch to the opposite angle as he comes back to reveal the sleeping person, and then back over his shoulder for a POV.
My doubt here is WHAT are they trying to tell us with these shots, and I have a few theories
Paralleling Buck and Chris as adoptive father/son? (This falls a bit short for me tbh but it’s likely given Buck’s donor arc, and it’s interesting that the actual witness to this reality isn’t him, but Eddie, who might point out Buck’s parental role to him later)
Showing Eddie lonely and how he needs someone else in his life because a kid and his bff aren’t enough and he still feels lonely (I actually hate this one but don’t put it past the writers… still doesn’t make much sense to me given how Buck’s nap was framed as welcome vulnerability and not a negative and it was pre-Pepa too)
Rule of 3 (A):we already saw Eddie asleep in the couch at the end of 6a but we could parallel Buck and Chris coming back to the kitchen to find Eddie asleep this time (could be… likely given what we know about Buck’s couch metaphor coming back in his last 6b scene, it could be the moment it hits him)
Rule of 3 (B): we could finish the season with all three Diaz-Buckley boys sleeping together on the couch, completely at ease and happy (again, likely given what I mentioned before and because it seems like Buck & Eddie will have an exhausting finale)
Rule of 3 (C): now this is wishful thinking but I want a mix of the past two options in which Christopher wakes up the day after the finale, goes to the kitchen to grab some juice or smth and Chris comes back to the living room to find both Buck and Eddie have fallen asleep on the couch after work.
Regardless… the thing I’m most curious about is the nature of the metaphor’s connection to the Diaz’s.
For one, it was actually Chris who brought up the couch the first time and it was Eddie who pointed out the romantic relationship symbolism of the whole thing. They are as tied to this idea as Buck. It was their first family scene this season and the effects of it have been rippling for 15 episodes so far.
Now, Buck falling asleep in 6x12 was clearly meant to be a nod towards the metaphor. The narrative made sure we knew it: Margaret pointing it out, Maddie mentioning it’s a long story to remind us of its significance, Buck struggling to sleep in his mom’s couch, and after he sleeps at Eddie’s he even marvels at how quickly he passed out. All these were big neon signs to make sure we had it in mind.
This scene in 6x15 however… Buck’s not here!!! The obvious framing as a callback to 6x12 in this episode is a direct connection to Buck and that moment and that metaphor. But it’s only Eddie and Christopher here. It’s a direct callback to Buck’s search for happiness. But given his absence, this scene isn’t about bringing Buck one step closer to realizing who his true happiness is. This scene is for us, the audience, only. It’s the writers telling us they haven’t forgotten and that we are still moving towards that realization. More neon signs.
In 6x12 we canonically connect Buck’s metaphor to Eddie’s couch for the first time (first time textually, at least, even if many of us saw the subtext coming).
In 6x15 we canonically connect Chris and Eddie to Buck’s couch metaphor.
These are similar statements, but not the same.
Anyway, my point is that wherever this is going it’s a Diaz-Buckley journey and the narrative is making sure we have it at the forefront of our minds while Buck and Eddie struggle with the wrong people and feelings of loneliness.

Oh I’ve just had a thought about the couch metaphor!!!
So we know that the couch is tied to romantic relationships for Buck, but that it also seems to be tied to familial ones as well.
Chris being the one to bring up bucks lack of couch, Bucks parents being the ones to buy him his replacement (uncomfortable) couch, Buck falling asleep on the Diaz couch, both Diaz’s falling asleep on the Diaz couch (separately), Eddie not sitting on the couch when he is alone but is talking to Buck etc
We also know that Bucks current couch is the wrong couch - in terms of his romantic relationships. But it is also the wrong couch in terms of familial relationships as well - his parents choosing it for him, not Buck so its representative of Buck not getting to choose the family he was born with - which is why he can’t get comfortable on it before he goes over to Eddies and falls asleep. This is nothing we haven’t already discussed.
But the thing thats occurred to me is; as it seems likely that Kameron’s waters breaking on the couch may play some part in destroying it, that would also be the perfect metaphor for Kameron and Connors family not being the right family for Buck either - the life he helped create not being his family and re-enforcing the idea that DNA doesn’t make a family (double whammy of the Buckley parents and C&K’s Baby not being his family despite sharing DNA) because your family will meet you where you’re at (which also applies to Bucks romantic life but we’re not there yet with him) and that made me think about the fact that bothDiaz’s may comment on Buck not having a couch and that being weird, but they don’t pressure him in to actually replacing it- they just go along with where he’s at. Maddie is the other person - she sits with him on his armchair - symbolic of her meeting him where he’s at as well - she has accepted his reasoning for taking his time choosing a couch because he wan’t to pick the right one.
There is one other aspect in all this - the fact we haven’t seen Buck on the Diaz couch (until 6x12) since the will reveal - we saw him on it a lot in season 4 - playing games with Chris and then sleeping on it when Eddie was in hospital and then anything Diaz house related with buck took place in the dining room, Eddie’s bedroom or half in the kitchen in season 5 (Andrew Meyers I’d like to have a word please because he wrote Chris and Buck on the couch in s4 + suspicion which set up Buck on the couch in 4x14 and then he wrote 6x01 and 6x12 so its likely he is responsible for the whole couch metaphor) and then the first time we see him on that couch again, its in combination with a scene where they actually talk about the shooting - all very telling about whats actually been going on in Bucks head since Eddie ‘Because Evan’d’ Buck - figuring out exactly where he fits in the Diaz family!
And actually Bucks coma dream and his feeling different in the aftermath all plays into this too - his feeling guilty about Christopher (who he doesn’t refer to by name) and Eddies physical absence - which its implied the Buck has figured out all play into the idea of Buck mentally battling with them being family - the sorry your not real implies that Buck doesn’t believe he’s a father to Chris at this point, but that things start to become clearer in the aftermath - as his math powers fade
So however we see Bucks couch meet its end in 6x18, if we do get to see him end up on the Diaz couch - choose his family - in the end then all those familial metaphors come full circle an that has really been Bucks arc for the season (actually his low key arc since 4x14!)- family and familial love - the thing he needs to feel secure in before he can focus on romantic love.
