#but yeah I would like books or movies or tv shows about adults

When ppl say that there is no stories about friendship I can't help but wonder what do they mean? There are lots and lots cartoons for kids and teens about well, friendship! Its the main point of almost all stories there. I don't like watching movies so I dunno if there are a lot of movies about friendship nowadays but I have watched old films about it. Like yeah it will always have some romance too for main characters or for the background characters bc if your story has like 10+ adult ppl most of them would look for relationship for the sake of building a family or sex. But also if you can excuse how the women are drawn you can just read/watch one piece and like NOBODY has any romance or sex there even though there are like billions of adult pirates.
#personal#if you want to recommend me something nice to watch comment it or drop me a message#but for the love of everything good pls dont recommend me school drama like I cant watch it anymore#i would prefer to watch more media about adults rn#I can make some exceptions like Hanako kun was really creepy like it looks like rom com for the teens in school but its actually horror#or Utena I started watching it and its crazy at the 1st episode already I want to learn more#but yeah I would like books or movies or tv shows about adults#I would like to watch something like Friends but good#like do u get what I mean? if it was Friends but it was actually really good and less THAT and like more GOOD#I really loved this tv show when I was learning English tho it was perfect for it but like they did so many bad choices for this story#i hate every story about Rachel's love life like its unbearable at this point you should just stop dating and forget about it and live#also they gradually made Ross into the most vile and evil man that could possibly exist and everyone was okay with it bc he is Monika's bro#they didn't need to make him into a monster asshole jerk like he could be just a nerd guy who is clumsy it would be alright#also they should have never made any story lines about Rachel and Ross like they are the worst couple that has ever existed on the tv#its the new level of abysmal I dream about how it would be cool if they have never had any relationship at all#this story would be like 999% better IMMEDIATELY but oh well

I appreciate everyone giving their opinions on tmnt's racism, but I don't need 50 people going "it wasn't intentional." 1st of all:
2nd of all:
IT DOESNT FUCKING MATTER. I do not CARE if it was intentional or not. I do not GIVE A FUCK about the intentions of the creators or if they meant for it to be racist. The individual biases of a person DOESNT MATTER HERE. IT DOES NOT !!!!!!!!!
This is about a systemic and culture-wide issue with anti-asian stereotypes in media, and how baked into western pop-culture orientalism is for these stereotypes to be SO EASILY applied to the most popular franchises today. And if it's unintentional, THEN THAT JUST PROVES MY FUCKING POINT!!!!!!
If people don't even have to think about the stereotypes they're applying to Asian American characters, or Asian characters in general, if this racism is just happening UNCONSCIOUSLY. THATS THE FUCKING PROBLEM!
If these movies and games and tv shows go through dozens or hundreds of people, and not one person with any kind of power over the final result goes "hey, this seems like a stereotype or borderline caricature, or just outright racist." That's is the problem! How normalized these stereotypes are, to the point where they are unintentionally put in so much media where an Asian American character is present. It doesn't matter if it's intentional!
The amount of Asian Americans, and I'm not just talking about East Asian's here - West Asian, South East Asians, South Asians, how many times do you think people have to turn a blind eye to bad-faith, misinterpretations of our cultures in our favorite shows, movies, games, books because it "wasn't intentional." I got 5 asks, in an hour, even more comments, reblogs, and tags, coming from a bunch of different Asian ethnicities about how they're so glad someone is finally talking about it. Because we just have to fucking ignore it! We just have to! Because enjoying anything popular would be almost impossible if we didn't!
Most racism, is not intentional, ITS STILL RACIST. I want to make it clear to you, this is a culture wide issue. That should be the discussion. Stop trying to baby grown-ass white adults putting racist shit in their shows because "yeah but it probably wasn't intentional." I DONT CARE!
And I HAVE PRIVILEGE IN THIS SITUATION! I'm wasian, I'm a light skinned, white passing mixed kid. I grew up in a majority Asian area. I can only imagine how much fucking harder it is to see this shit when you're maybe the only Asian person in your friend group, if you're from anywhere that isn’t Japan, Korea, or China, if you or your family are Asian immigrants, god forbid if you have an accent.
And I still getting people telling me I’m “basically Chinese” when I say I’m Taiwanese. If they even know what Taiwan fucking IS.
If your first thought seeing someone telling people to think critically about racist stereotypes is “it wasn’t intentional” and not “oh wow, these stereotypes are really baked into our culture” fucking analyze that.
Thanks for reading me fucking losing it. I’m tired.

Darkwing Duck’s* Biggest Fans Haters
*As in the old tv show from the world of DuckTales (2017), not the superhero Drake Mallard assumes the identity of to fight evil
Tumblr media
To fans like Drake Mallard and Launchpad McQuack, Darkwing Duck is the greatest piece of television history that helped shape their lives to become the ducks they are today thanks to its titular hero who never gave up despite the odds against him
To the rest of the world, Darkwing Duck was just another superhero show from the 90s that starred a problematic diva d-list actor that may or may not have died
Opinions are subjective of course, neither are 100% correct nor incorrect but I feel like when the fandom talks about Darkwing Duck it’s always about the characters that would also like the show. So why not flip the script a little? We’ll start small and work our way up to its biggest hater
Gosalyn Waddlemeyer:
Tumblr media
“GOSALYN!?” You might be screaming at your monitor/phone to which I have to say:
“Yeah”
Again we are not talking about the Drake Mallard or his super identity here, but the tv show he and Launchpad are obsessed with. Because frankly, I bet Gosalyn loves doing all that superhero stuff with her adoptive dads. It’s a cool life to live!
Other than the fact that Drake is a huge nerd who INSISTS that Gosalyn do her “homework” and watch every episode of Darkwing Duck, read all the sacred texts (comic books), and playing the original Darkwing Duck video game on the original hardware so she won’t use the rewind or save features that modern games or ROMs have
Like all kids who have had an adult push their interests onto them, she has a little disdain for the show. But not a whole lot since she’s first on this list. I like to think she’s in the same boat as Dewey where she finds the show cheesy and doesn’t really hate it per say and sees why Drake and LP love the show. She even has a few guilty pleasure episodes
But one thing she doesn’t understand is why Drake and Launchpad insist on watching the Darkwing Duck Christmas Special every year when they’re both practicing Jews
Scrooge McDuck:
Tumblr media
Yeah the old man can barely remember Drake, let alone the Darkguy Drake played in that movie he cancelled so I don’t really see Scrooge being a fan of the Masked Mallard. (No, not that Masked Mallard OG DuckTales fans)
If Scrooge did sit down and watch the show, he’d find it to be rather ridiculous if anything. Some vigilante running around dressed like The Spirit or The Shadow or whatever superhero kids are into these days getting slapped around and fighting back just doesn’t seem like his cup of tea
I like to think when Donald and Della were kids they watched Darkwing Duck at the mansion and Scrooge just walked by the room, looked at the TV for a few seconds, scoffed, and moved on with his life forgetting all about that nonsense his niece and nephew were watching
Louie Duck:
Tumblr media
Honestly I always had this headcanon that Louie just isn’t a fan of superheroes. Like at all. He finds the stories all copy and paste, using all the cliches he hates from other genres and putting them in tights.
And don’t even get him started on superhero related adventures! If he sees a sky beam, Louie is running in the opposite direction of it. He’s not dealing with the many different diva supervillains out there trying to take over the world with cartoony extreme measures, he doesn’t wanna be around all that property damage
He does have a favorite superhero tho. Waddle Duck because he gave him a Pep once
Lena Sabrewing:
Tumblr media
She thinks it’s lame.
Gandra Dee:
Tumblr media
This is a no brainer for me. Gandra Dee made herself Darkwing Duck’s biggest hater the moment she heard the duck talk shit about Gizmoduck around Fenton who insisted she does not reveal his secret identity to Drake, because Drake is all he has left
Wanting to respect her boyfriend’s wishes, Gandra decides not to spill the beans but instead add more fuel to the fire by talking shit about Darkwing Duck
And she does not hold back
She’s not ashamed to talk shit on the show. It’s predictablity, it’s cheesiness, the plot holes, how lame it was for its own time, etc
It ain’t her childhood, she ain’t afraid to fight dirty either. She will bring up problematic episodes that depicted races in a not so good and stereotypical light (“It was the nineties! They were different times!” -Drake probably) such as the fact that in one episode Darkwing Duck called a group of Native Americans “primitive savages” or that a non-Asian actor played an Asian character in a sterotypcial manner and that how one of the characters names was “Duck Ling”(Okay but for real, all that shit did happen in the OG show.)
This of course frustrates Drake who is extra suspicious of Gandra ever since he saw her with Gizmoduck and writes her off as a blind fan girl who doesn’t know what she’s talking about
She’s pretty chill about not being into the show with Launchpad tho. He respects her opinions because he’s Launchpad and at the end of the day Gandra is still his friend

"stop making [media] your whole personality"
ah... okay. yes. so.
first off:
there's this neurodivergent thing, where you use an interest as a filter for processing the world.
for some people that is called a "special interest," for others with different needs it is more of a "hyperfixation;" there are far more variations than i (or the field of psychology) know how to describe now. if you want to understand the difference there are people who can explain those variations better than me. but i can tell you what it feels like.
you discover something.
it doesn't matter what it is; you find something that speaks to you, something you can connect to, and it becomes a bubble of safe habitat from which you can rest from and explore and connect to all the other parts of this strange chaotic world.
a source of joy. a source of illumination.
it's like you're a person who has lived all their life in dark caves and you find something that glows.
these interests can be anything.
(literally anything; i personally derive meanings that you could never imagine from ✨ drainage ditches. ✨)
but very often, they are stories. tv shows, books, movies, comics, songs, podcasts, minecraft improv streams, cartoons, web serials, whatever
these things are:
tangible. you can hold them in your hands, replay them, turn on the subtitles, take screenshots, read the sheet music
and yet
real. they form a genuine connection from your (isolated, untranslatable) internal world to other (formerly unknowable) people and the rest of the universe
they create meaningfulness
and they exist because humans find these incredibly effective soul-deep ways of communicating to one another.
now, appreciating stories, that's not a neurodivergent thing. that's a human thing.
the point of relevance here is that experiencing an extreme love for stories is a neurodivergent thing.
it's a very common neurodivergent trait which often gets mocked, portrayed as childish, and used as a pretext for infantilization and bullying.
(and it is also a trait of young people in general, to take stories very seriously in a way that looks silly to adults, and that is something that many people (regardless of age) try to bully out of each other.
what good is that doing anyone?)
"stop making [x] your whole personality"
listen, you. get down off that goddamn embankment and climb down into this ditch with me. dip your toes in this oily water. watch the stars and city lights ripple into constellations you've never seen
now look me in the eye
you need to understand that no matter what lowbrow, cringey, problematic or otherwise not-to-your-tastes drivel you might be complaining about today,
you are talking about the phenomenon of creativity
you are talking about a transcendent catalyst of human emotion
and yes that includes the overmilked disney franchises, it includes the formulaic shippy fanfictions, it includes whatever brightly-colored cartoon this website is obsessed with this year (and will be having incredibly dramatic meltdowns over next year), it includes the cheesy action movies and the fanservicey anime and the badly-designed video games and the milquetoast tiktok "literature", it includes the indistinguishable scribbles of some random five-year-old and/or famous fine artist and/or precocious elephant
i get it. you care about real life and touching grass and shit. you have taste. just take the stilts off your horse for a second, okay?
i know you're probably sick of "let people like things" discourse
i would just like for you to stop for a second and take a deep breath, and let the stench of whatever is in this mud puddle wash over you (yeah i know, ew, but you'll be fine) and consider
what is so bad about having a cringey personality, anyway?
and maybe you will think better of making "stop making [some silly moment in the universe] your personality" into your personality and maybe you will come off as a little bit less of a snob/ableist/ass and maybe you will have a slightly better outlook on life among humans.
that's all. yeah you can get out of the gutter now. thank you for coming to my ted talk—
ooh wait, look, a bottle cap

This week marked the 12th anniversary of The Hunger Games movie release.
What do you think about THG as a movie adapatation?
Do you think THG influence other movie (/book) in the genre? Yes/No? Why?
Is there any difference in your opinion about it between when you first saw the movie (/read the book) and now?
Thank you :)
@curiousthg
I actually LOVE the first THG movie … I almost feel like you get immersed into the Hunger Games with Katniss and none of the other films really give me that feeling.
But honestly, they’re not great adaptations. I still think they’re FANTASTIC movies— but god do I love the way Suzanne paints her worlds when she writes. It would be so difficult for a movie to capture any of her writing authentically in film TBH. If they ever do reboot THG franchise I’m begging them to make it a television show. I think it would be phenomenal as a tv show where they could flesh out the story better!
Oh I think THG totally revitalized the Dystopian genre in both lit & in film. We lived in a golden age of YA Dystopian film & literature for a hot second there. I honestly was hoping TBOSAS would bring it back … but so far that hasn’t happened. We’ll see!
Oh yeah! I mean I was a very young teen when the first movie came out (and obviously younger when the book came out.). There’s a lot of differences in how I watch/read this series. For example …. ⬇️
I loved Katniss. I was like “she’s the coolest character in the world she’s a badass blah blah” Like the little kid in CF that gives Katniss the flowers and says “I’m going to volunteer like you” or whatever?? That was me 😭 I loved Katniss.
Now I just am sad for her rereading as an adult. She’s just a kid. No kid should go through any of that— anything at all like that. It’s horrific to watch and read the things that she goes through.
I think it also comes with growing up while a character remains a teenager. Now I want to save her while back then I wanted to be her.

IWTV Episode 6 Podcast Transcript
Special Guests: Levan Akin and Jewelle Gomez
"Lestat made him [Louis] a vampire. He became in a way his everything. He became isolated from his family and his friends. He has nothing. It’s classic abusive, toxic. He’s isolated Louis." -Levan Akin
“Recording a song with your side piece is not an apology”
Naomi: First, in this episode, there’s a heated discussion of whether Emily Dickinson was a vampire. What other historical figures do you think could’ve been vampires?
Levan: Good question.. I would say Tesla. He could be a vampire… I don’t know maybe I’m just thinking about was it David Bowie who played him in a movie. Maybe I just got that image in my head… I don’t know what do you think?
N: I’m not used to having the tables turned on me… Bowie and Iman.
L: And also Grace Jones.
N: Can you tell me when you first discovered Anne Rice?
L: I’d heard about her and then I saw the film I think when I was 14.
N: Wow, formative.
L: I remember that screening very well. I loved vampires and I saw that film. I was a little gay kid and there was a lot of subtext I could pick up. And then I went to the school library and found The Vampire Lestat so that was the first book I read and that was a gamechanger for me. I was obsessed…
N: Do you remember your parents having a reaction to you reading these books?
L: The thing is they didn’t really get it. My parents are from Georgia, former Soviet Republic. They had no idea about pop culture or anything.
N: You’re live with us from Sweden. Correct me if I’m wrong but IWTV is the first time you’re directing a US TV series?
L: Yes.
N: Tell me everything, how does it happen? How are you out here working in Sweden and like get me on the AR show?
L: I did a film called and then we danced, and that opened some doors. I got agents. I read from an AR fan I follow on facebook and heard they were doing a series and I told my agents, get me on that show. And then finally I met Rolin Jones and luckily Rolin thought why not give this guy a try. He’s a risk taker.
L: I also got to do the scene where Louis meets Molloy in San Francisco. I can’t believe it.
N: You directed ep 5 and 6 which are the most tumultuous episodes in the show and the most tumultuous time in their relationship. What is the core of the conflict, how would you describe it?
L: You know those two episodes, its essentially the darkest days. Everything comes to the end. When I was reading ep 5 I was thinking, how does Lestat ever come back from this? And then I started reading ep6, and how he slowly tears Louis down and talks his way back into their lives. And I thought it was brilliant but also you know frightening. I always tried to approach the material with like what’s the reality of this situation? You know it is a toxic relationship. It was interesting approaching these scenes as an adult, having read these books as a kid.
N: When you read these romances, its like I want someone to love me that much. And then when you’re an adult, you’re like this is sick this is twisted. We have to have boundaries.
L: Yes, of course.
N: You see the relationship change, for all the fantasy of it, the emotions are real, regardless of the time. How we stay in the truth of what the feelings are. As you said this is a tumultuous time, the darkest of days and we see Lestat begging for forgiveness over the course of years and trying to win Louis back. And he has a messed up way of apologizing. Can we talk a little about as a director, getting into the mindset? When you’re talking to Jacob and Sam, do you get them in the mindset of okay its been 6 years, you swam the Mississippi, bring me that energy.
L: Yeah, again how do you find the truth in that scene. Its at its core.. Lovers reuniting but also there’s so much frustration coming from Louis in that scene. He’s been having this stalker slowly nudging his way into his wife. I remember talking to Jacob about it over lunch, it feels as if that scene also he’s had enough. He knows he’s never going to be free of Lestat. He might as well relent. Its very sad later in the episode he says what difference does it make.
N: I want Louis to realize he can do better..
L: Me too. But you know Lestat is his prison. Its like him trying to get over a bad breakup and he’s still a hundred years later you’re sort of still trying to understand and deal with what happened in this relationship.
N: And you see here in 2022 and he’s still mad. Relatable.
L: Of course, of course. Lestat made him a vampire. He became in a way his everything. He became isolated from his family and his friends. He has nothing. It’s classic abusive, toxic. He’s isolated Louis.
Voicemail from listener: I did watch the first episode, I was very intrigued but I did not read the book. I was a little confused about why Louis’s brother killed himself and then I thought maybe Lestat had gotten into his head because he wants Louis so badly but he wants Louis to come to him. So what better way to get someone and get into someone’s head when they are in mourning for someone they loved and vulnerable. I just wanted to know if that was why Paul killed himself that Lestat put that in his head so he could get to Louis.
N: You’re asking the question that Louis asks in this episode! I thought this was such a huge moment, have you been sitting on this for 30 years? Have you been with this person wondering this all this time? Can you tell me your thoughts on this question? He says no.
L: He says no, but as you said, him having this question for 30 years and never asked before, what does that mean? Does that mean he had his doubts but he didn’t want to ask and didn’t want the truth? But now theyre standing at this threshold so he’s like Im gonna ask this question but I think Lestat did not have anything to do with it. I think he’s telling the truth.. What do you think?
N: Its tricky to me cause we know Lestat is a manipulator, thats what he does. On one hand, the way he responds, I believe that but he did get in Paul’s head at the dinner table.
L: But if he did do it, he’s irredeemable in a way. Which is why I think he did not do it.
N: Why do you think Lestat is telling his story NOW?
L: To me, its cause he know he has to give him something. It’s purely tactical. He’s very earnest when he tells it, its very down to earth and grounded and direct.
N: Was that something you and Sam talked about?
L: Yes, we talked about it and we said this has to be different. It has to feel different for you to sort of lay that final punch toward winning over Louis for real. Without doubt. I don’t want the audience to feel Louis is an idiot. You have to understand Louis like he’s finally giving me something real something vulnerable.
N: Speaking of sort of this intimacy and this toxicity of this relationship, do you think Lestat deserves forgiveness?
L: It’s an interesting question and I was thinking about it, cause when you read the books and you read TVL/QOTD, its told from Lestat’s POV and he’s manipulating the reader and you love him and you’re inside his mind and he motivates all of his bad decisions and the bad stuff he does. When you see him objectively from the outside, it becomes more complicated. And this is Louis’s retelling of Lestat. The real question to me is does Louis really forgive him? I’m not sure he does, he takes him in again but is he totally open to him or has he locked off some places?
N: You gotta lock up some places with Lestat.
L: You can see that in relationships. People who have been together too long and you wonder should they really be or is it just comfortable its easier like this to keep going.
N: Lestat will not let him go and we also see he won’t let Claudia go. I HATE HIM! WHY why won’t he just let Claudia go? The thing I don’t understand is he never wanted Claudia, he made her to appease Louis so I’m like why wouldn’t he let her go so he can have Louis all to himself again?
L: Yes, cause he knows he’s never going to be enough for Louis. He knows that Louis is going to be depressed and thinking about Claudia, he doesn’t want to rock the status quo of the situation, he just wants to keep it as is. Cause its going to be trouble for Lestat.
N: I feel like Lestat is his own trouble. If he could just be nice and stop having side pieces. Cause this is what kills me, when he mentions the Bruce thing adn knowing what we know of Lestat and how vengeful he is.. Why didn’t he go kill Bruce?
L: yeah that’s a good question.
N: Oh so you knew all this time and we know you love killing people just for fun, could you just go kill Bruce for the family please? I was mad..
L: Me too.
N: One of the things too is the idea of enduring. As Lestat says, we endure each other. In some ways, Louis is just enduring Lestat like what can I do, so I’m just gonna stay with him. Is enduring something to even be proud of? Doesn’t sound great to me.
L: I agree, its a way of suffering. I see it almost as a duty to go through these things and to endure. Being a vampire and living forever is an endurance. In this context, Louis is saying what else can I do?  He doesn’t have anyone else,  he doesn’t know any other vampires, why not just endure this and let this pass? Cause you see time differently when you’re a vampire, like it’s gonna be 10 bad years but then things are gonna change.
N: 10 bad years.. What’s one bad decade?
L: Yeah cause they don’t have what we do which is like its now or never. I’ve gotta get my shit together now. Hustling to try to fulfill all your dreams. He’s like whats the point? And try to make the best of this, cause this is what we have and the cards we’ve been dealt.
N: That brings me to Molloy in present day when Louis offers him eternal life and Molloy says no so quickly when we know that was not the case in the 70s. I interpret it as having heard this story, he’s like no I do not want to be a vampire now knowing what he knows hes like no thank you.
L: Also I think being older and seeing what an effed up place the world is and its all going to hell and its the middle of the pandemic and climate change and wars, I think Molloy is like I don’t wanna stay here.
N: This episode ends with Molloy having a dream? A memory? I love a camera pan and he’s there.
L: I freaked out when I was reading it too... This series is everything I wanted as a fan, there are so many cool things you’re going to see in the series from the book. And a lot of things Rolin has planted now that you will see later.
Horror Author Jewelle Gomez
N: Episode 6 did not leave me feeling good, coming off the heels of 5, it was another pummeling in a way.
J: Louis has gone through the ringer and its not that often you get to a see a vampire who has to recover. Usually in TV/movies its like bada bing bada bang and injuries are gone. This is a knitting back together and its an emotional thing to watch.
N: It’s been years, it takes like 3 years to get back to who he was like walking around. This is an episode about the family dynamic and how it is changed by what Lestat has done. What do you think is different about a vampire family? Should they even be a family? Are they forcing something not right?
J: We’re thinking like mortals, like they can get a therapist to work it through. I think it’s valuable to try to make something but it has to be as Louis say no lies and I dont think Lestat is ever capable of being fully present and fully honest even when he says he’s going to compromise or be honest I don’t know if you can trust him in particular. And then you add in Claudia who is in many ways superior to Louis and Lestat, she’s got a really strong mind a strong intellect…
N: They’re like she’s a sweet little girl, it will be fine. Have you never met a teenage girl?
J; WRONG.
N: It’s funny cause I don’t think of her as smarter but she is colder. Louis he is bound by this love of Lestat, he’s in his thrall. Then Lestat is driven by power and control. Claudia just wants to be free… she is the one who is the least attached in this trio which enables her to see clearly and this dynamic is not right and I dont have to stand for it.
J: She’s coming into her own as she goes out into the world and sees women. She’s never going to become one in the traditional scene and it engenders her anger. She is definitely chillier than Louis and that’s a surprise to them. She’s not as wedded to the value of mortals cause she’s never lived as long as a mortal. She’s chilly and ruthless.
N: Absolutely, a bit theme of the series is ht eidea of freedom vs repression and she says to Louis lets leave and go to Europe lets life our own life. But do you think you can really be free as a vampire? Do you think a vampire is any more free as a mortal?
J: Usually its the stuff you take into your vampire life before you were a vampire, but if you were not taught how to create family or what freedom really means, it would be very hard to be free of someone like Lestat. I think that’s a significant element of who Claudia is trying to be free, what it creates for her is assault. She takes that into how she feels about Louis and Lestat. Its stoked by this incident by Bruce, its something they do not understand, even reading the diary you can’t really understand what it means to a woman to have that experience. It’s a very valuable part of the story for us to understand claudia and why she wants to be free why she will go to any lengths to be free.
N: She thinks the only way to be free is killing Lestat. What are the vampire rules against killing your maker?
J: It’s like how mortals views patricide or matricide. It’s like the worst crime other than killing your child. It sentences you to death in the vampire world.
N: Can she ever really be free? If she thinks the only way to freedom is to kill Lestat but to do so would put a target on her back… there’s no way out for her?
J: The only way for her would be if Lestat turns over a new leaf and just lets them go on their European tour but what’s more likely to happen when he finally does understand Claudia is serious and powerful. The possibility of him killing her is not that slim. He might just be done with her and is not worth the hassle. She’s not in love with him the way Louis is.
N: We’ve talked a bit about Louis being in love with Lestat and in his thrall but Claudia says we’re slaves to Lestat and Louis is like that’s not true. Why does he not see do you think?
J: I’ll tell you, when she tells Louis we’re slaves to Lestat, Louis knows what slavery looks like in real life, he does not feel its true for him in this moment. Even though slavery comes in different shapes sizes and forms, he’s like little girl you don’t know what you’re talking about. He doesn’t take in himself as a slave but he’s unable to see himself as a slave but someone who treats him the way Lestat does is not healthy. We cannot underestimate he is in love, he takes the position of the battered spouse who keeps forgiving.
N: Its Claudia who gives the strength to Louis, when she says we don’t have to be like this anymore, you deserve better, we deserve better, we can start over. The young person who sees all the opportunities vs. the older person who was never given that opportunity.
J; And that gives you hope that things can change but she’s also a young person who doesn’t know the past so she doesn’t know what Louis’s been through to get where he is. So its a double edged sword in some ways, but the hope part of it is most valuable to Louis at this stage of this story.
N: If you’re vampire, where would you live and when? Preferred time period and location where you would feel the most free?
J: I would live between London and NY. London in the 1800s - number 1 the clothes, the outfits, I’m a corset queen and bloomers on your bicycle and you could go to the theater every night of the week and see something different. As a person of color I wouldn’t be invited to a lot of the salons, that’s alright I’ld have my own vampire salons.

Let's Read Peanuts (Yup, still at it) – May 1954
There are lots of great strips I just don't have room to comment on. I strongly encourage everybody to read the full month at the official GoComics page. Today's month starts HERE.
May 3, 1954

~tugs collar~
Yeah... About that.
May 9, 1954
Tumblr media
Aw yeah, here we go! I was wondering when this would pop up.
May 15, 1954
Tumblr media
1) That's not a joke
2) Yes, Violet. I got that from him kicking the radio.
Also I hope you enjoyed this strip because “Charlie Brown doesn't like coconut” is now a running gag.

This definitively proves that adults exist in the Peanuts Cinematic Universe, they just happen to be 20 feet tall for some reason. Or maybe the kids are like 2 feet tall? It depends on how you look at it I guess.
May 23, 1954
Tumblr media
Oh man! What's going to happen!? I'm freaking out!

Lucy is so unbelievably awful to Linus in these early years. Granted, she's literally four(?) years old so I can cut her a bit of slack but god damn do these kind of interactions not endear you to her.
Weirdly enough though, I actually like that the strip doesn't punish her for doing stuff like this. Others have made this observation long before I came along but the fact that Schulz is willing to just sort of... let bad things happen without immediately having the universe make an example of the perpetrator or teach them a lesson is one of the things that sets Peanuts apart from the competition. Life just kind of be like that sometimes and it's OK to show it.

(No, really. That's the last one)
Thoughts:
The golf tournament arc is kind of notorious and nobody really knows what the hell is up with it. You have continuity in the Sunday strips (very unusual due to how they are made), weird off-model art, the cast acting out of character, and of course, on-screen adults. Then it all just kind of... stops. It's very odd.
I've heard people speculate that this might actually have been ghost drawn (is that a term?) by another artist but I'm not sure if I buy that. The art is a bit different but it still very much feels like Schulz to me, particularly in how he draws his backgrounds. I ~do~ think there might be something to the idea that this is a repurposed experiment from another project though.
What this feels like to me is Schulz experimenting with “bigger” stories, perhaps something intended to be sold as a proper comic book rather than just a collection of strips. The art looks different because he's trying to set it apart from the strips by adding more detail and action (kind of like when an animated TV sitcom gets a theatrical movie).
As for why it just ends like that? Well that's a sort of punchline Schulz does in a lot in his daily strips so it's not actually that weird if you think about it. I think he just didn't realize that this kind of anticlimax punchline works with a 4-panel strip but not a 4-page event comic.
There's no official word on the matter though so your guess is as good as mine.

I was going to reblog with a comment but that post is already super long. But so true ! Like the ninja assassin thing with Dick is a modern retcon something that would be a Tim Cass or Damian thing to do. But writing a flashback for an adult Dick in the 2000s would be weird. By the 1960s he was firmly in canon 18 and in college. How are you gonna go back to the era of goofy and be like this is Dick’s angsty teenage years involved getting turned into a vampire and fighting Bruce over dating Talia. It just doesn’t make sense with how Long comics keep going. 80 years of comics and he’s only what 28. Like it’s very hard to keep a consistent character when everyone wants to make Dick Jason and Bruce new characters every few decades
Absolutely!
My personal view about how they kept retconning Dick's personality as a child and his relationship with Bruce is that it's a mix of complex things and bullshit.
The complex things is yeah, Dick and Bruce had their share of problems when Dick was growing up. They did start bumping heads a lot, but it was more like "this kid is turning into a man and is starting to clash views with his father (who is already someone who's not easy to deal with)" and "that's the part where he starts to develop who he is as person" (I won't get much into that because I haven't read many comics regarding Dick transition from Robin from Batman & Robin to Robin from Titans until Nightwing in the pre-death of the family era.) than the borderline abusive and toxic relationship they started to introducing in the late 90's to early 2000's portrayals of them.
It's complex because after rebooting everything it's hard to introduce such a long and gradual process that took almost ten years of development that is Dick's emancipation not only from working with Bruce but also following his every step as boy wonder. Specially if we think about the huge fall out they had right after Jason died.
It's bullshit because they started with those retcons when we had that long and embarrassing period of Super-hero history (late 90's to early 2000's) where everyone was trying to make super-heroes popular again but following alongside with a palpable embarrassment and self-conscious shame regarding any silliness and/or whimsical side the superhero universe. Like "we're making superheroes stories but this is for adults, this ain't for children 😡😡". Nobody wanted to be the "60's Batman TV show everyone makes fun of" and everybody wanted to be Alan Moore.
We had all this writers who grow up reading "Death of the family", "The Killing Joke", "Batman Year one" add were dying to recreate the 80's dark period glory, even if they didn't had the same writing skills for that.
I mean hate the Killing Joke all you want (I know I do), it has a shit tone of good writing.
It's bullshit because everyone was still sore about how Batman turned into a joke in the 90's after that one movie and for some reason everyone blamed Robin. It's bullshit because comic books are always influenced by the popular media around them, and while 40's Batman had the American Way and American Family Values™ 🦅🦅🦅, 80's Batman has Scarface, Taxi Driver and long urban tragedies.... 90's have Die Hard and every extra power macho fantasy under the sun.
I mean... This was 90's Nightwing.
Tumblr media
he's so big and so stupid and one day I'm gonna top h–*gunshots*
No one wanted to see "good father" Batman, hell no one wanted to see any emotional shit in comics? Emotions??? In my manly comics??? Miss me with that gay sit emotions is for girls 😡😡 I wanna see big buffy man making his enemies cry 🔥⛓️☠️💪☠️😡⛓️🪚🔧
So you reach early 2000, everyone kinda hates or is kinda embarrassed of Robin, Batman is a former shadow of the man and the father he used to be. But you still wanna introduce new readers to your character (Dick Grayson) that (for better or for worst) is loved but only by the people who already know him, you're still embarrassed of his silly origins and the whimsical part of it.
So what do you do?
Personally I think writers thought Dick had it too easy as Robin, personally I think they were obsessed about making it real, personally I think everyone was obssessed and trilled with the idea of being the next Tim Miller and making their one fresh real edge introduction of the boy wonder. Personally I think this is all the new 52 was absolutely on for the Batfamily.
Personally I believe (and this is more a optimistic take) some writers were creatively trying to tie Dick's anger issues as Nightwing to his origins as Robin.
You have this chance of one in million (at te time) to reintroduce Nightwing (reintroduce Robin), now you can make it as real as gritty and as edge as you want. You can make it Robin cool again, you can introduce in a way that will sell well the dark story you where preparing for this character. And you also can deny any father and son relationship he could had have with Bruce Wayne and keep the big beef strong man without feelings reputation that people have been manufacturing by choice into Batman from ten years by now.
And what is more dark and character building than an abusive father?
I think writers thought that making Bruce abusive towards Dick and Dick resentful towards Bruce was the best way to launch this new universe as realistic and grittier. Not only making Dick's Robin introduction (and origin) more "real" but also separating Bruce even more from a emotional and father like figure that for some reason some writers (and fans!) despised to much.
Killing so many birds with one stone might as well call yourself David from the Bible.
And they were so certain this direction would be a success that the just notice their mistake now.
Anyways... A load of bullshit.
I personally don't mind Dick's Robin having anger issues, I think it's a natural progression from his first real serious introduction from back in the 80's, I also think it adds more to his character tying up his first trauma along with a long life of others and the result of having to deal with a frustrating job (that is vigilantism is) since literally ever. I like the idea that the perfect Robin wasn't perfect all the time and he also had (and has) other side of his personality that isn't as nice or likeable as it should and that's a thing he consciously have to work on as a person since he was a child.
However I also think writers did took to far sometimes and Dick history and specially his relationship with Bruce suffered from it. And I also agree that if everyone tries to reboot, retcon and fucking "subvert" a character every fucking ten years you won't even have a fucking consistent character to begin with (gestures vaguely to Jason Todd, Deadpool and now poor fuckin Damian and their wreck of comic book history).

I found out from the fic you posted that there’s an English remake of het huis anubis!? I had no idea that the Dutch show me and all the other kids in the Netherlands and Belgium watched was so successful that they made other versions of it in other countries
I looked up your version of the show and I saw you only got 191? The original Dutch version has 404 episodes and the spin-off series has another 173 episodes excluding crossovers
We also had 3 movies, 7 books, several music albums, a spin-off series, 3 or 4 theatre shows/musicals, several board games, a nintendo ds game and 1 amusement park ride in the Netherlands and Belgium, did they remake any of those into English too?
Could you please tell me where I can watch the English version? I’m really curious to see how it is compared to the original. I’m honestly really excited about this because the character in your fic Jerome reminds me so much of his Dutch counterpart Jeroen, who I had a massive crush on, so it’s really cool to be able to read a fic about him or a version of him
I think I have a link where you can watch the original show, the movies and the spin-off series for free with English subtitles, if you want to watch more of the show I can send it to you?
AHhhh! Hello! Yes Hi!
I got really excited when I saw this!
But yes house of Anubis is a remake of the Dutch show it was made by Nickelodeon in 2011, the show was... I wanna say medium popular in the UK I know it aired in the US as well but I can't speak for the US.
At least for me this show was a huge part of my childhood It came out in 2011 which fun fact I was 12 then and I was a NERD, for history especially I was a big history nerd and this is basically was tripped me into my second egyptology focus but yeah It came for me at kinda just the right time, in just the right way and I have fond memories of sitting down after school to watch this show.
It got I think 3 seasons and then a movie here, but we got nothing like the massive stuff you listed there we got nothing like that, we barely even got any merch or anything of it, I am very jealous.
The funny thing was I never had a thing for Jerome when I first watched it I remember kinda thinking he was a bit of a dick not revisiting it as an adult its like... bring me my cocky little fluffy chaos boy!
And I've been wanting to do more characters for a while now and I was already doing Lancel stuff lately cause I kinda just stumbled on the memory of him in my mind, and had like a heart attack when I learnt Lancel and Jerome are plaid by the same actor which sent me, of course, running to IMDB to see what else I can watch.
As for watching the English version, I said it is steaming on Paramount Plus, on YouTube Premium, Amazon Prime and Apple TV if that helps. I'm rewatching it with friends and we have the physical media so I'm not sure if there are any downloads or stuff online I'm sure there likely is if you go digging.
Ohh I'd love to see the original show and stuff thank you so much!
And thank you so much for talking with me about it! I was kinda worried no one would have a clue what this was.

Hey! Came upon your blog cause you liked my Andrew VdK posts (thank u btw!!)! You seem to be a german speaker and i'm trying to practice my german. would you have any good german language tv show reccs that i could watch (with subtitles)? Also not to sound needy cause beggars can't be choosers or whatever but i tend to watch more lighthearted/teen drama type stuff than really heavy serious adult dramas but this is not a hard rule!! please ignore this if it's annoying! have a super nice day!!
Thank you for posting the Andrew content, I'm so happy to see him, my poor littlw meow meow <3
If you like lighthearted German (teen) dramas, then, oh boy!, I have just the thing for you:
"Türkisch für Anfänger" (teen soap about a German-Turkish patchwork family, it's silly and hilarious and soooo dramatic)
"Schloss Einstein" (still running today show about kids at a German boarding school, literally has the best intro in the world)
"Die Pfefferkörner" (has also been running for generations, it's about a gang of children detectives investigating im Hamburg, also has the best intro in the whole world)
"Doctor's Diary" (Grey's Anatomy but far worse. It's a trainwreck, if you liked desperate housewives you’re gonna love this one)
"Berlin Berlin" (never watched that one personally, but it's about a young woman living in Berlin in her 20s trying to figure out her life)
"Die Wilden Hühner" movies (my personal faves growing up though i prefrr the books; about a group of teen girls who have an old trailer as a group headquarter and chicken in the garden, literally what more do you want 😌)
"Französisch für Anfänger" (i remember so little from this movie but that it's about a boy who cant speak a whim French going on a France exchange to get with a girl. very stupid, very funny, hell of a music track)
"Die Vampirschwestern" movies (literally what it says on the tin, half-vampire sisters trying to figure out teen life, find friends and occasionally fight evil forces. normal stuff, you know)
"Hanni & Nanni" movies (a set of twin girls who get send to boarding school and being very pissed about it until... well, they're not anymore :) there is also an anime, as far as I know it's on youtube, it's so sweet!)
"Heidi" (show out of all shows, isao takahata and hayao miyasaki we're both part in creating it, fuck yeah. story about an orphaned girl who is brought to the alps to live with her grandfather and i dont know how to describe it any further? it's a beautiful heartwearming story with gorgeously animated landscapes. also baby goats.)
I hope some of these work for you and feel free to ask for other shows. I actually don't know if all of them are accessible outside of Germany, but I'm just hoping for the best 🥲

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks...
this is such a hard question because i’ve gone through so many phases of obsessing over pieces of media in my life, and sometimes it’s really hard for me to parse which characters are lasting favorites and which are just part of that phase. but i’ll try! keep in mind, lots of sentimentality ahead…
and this is in no particular order.
1. wei wuxian (the untamed)
ok so this kind of goes along with a previous post i made discussing my feelings of the mdzs book vs. the untamed. when i first watched the untamed at the recommendation of a friend, it was so unlike anything i’d ever seen before. and wei wuxian was so unlike any protagonist i’d ever encountered before. his determination to do what’s right no matter what others do, but also not being above experiencing doubt and uncertainty about his decisions, really touched me. also of course his carefree attitude toward life is something i repeatedly try and fail to achieve myself. it might also have to do with xiao zhan’s acting choices, but he really touched me as a character. it’s hard for me to say if the wwx of the book did the same organically because i read it over a long period of time after watching the show, so im just going to count the untamed version.
2. shizuku tsukishima (whisper of the heart)
this one is probably pretty niche but allow me to give my most heartfelt recommendation of whisper of the heart, my favorite ghibli movie and one of my favorite films of all time. shizuku is the protagonist of the film. she’s a young girl, probably about 14, and so far, her life has been defined by satisfying her imagination by always reading fiction, immersing herself in stories. inspired by the love interest of the film seiji, she decides she wants to try to be a writer. the film is kind of like a slice of life over a few months of this time, and we see shizuku struggle with perfectionism and wanting to follow her dreams and inability to take criticism, etc. i rarely cry over movies but i cried at this one because i had just never felt so seen by a character. everyone please watch whisper of the heart!🙏
3. prince zuko (avatar: the last airbender)
i think 50% of the reason he’s on here is sentimentality since avatar was a show i watched so much throughout my childhood and of course again more recently with its resurgence in popularity, but also what can i say? his character arc is unmatched. i won’t rehash the details. i will say uncle iroh would probably be here instead if we knew any more about his past because he’s off-screen journey is just so fascinating to me.
4. percy jackson (percy jackson & the 12 olympians)
PURE sentimentality but ya know….also im only considering this character how he exists in the original series. he kind of lost me in heroes of olympus. but yeah percy jackson was the first character that really impacted me back when i was 9, and i think i still carry that impact to this day. i also think the original series still holds up reading it as an adult.
5. kim wexler (better call saul)
kim nation!!! reveal yourselves!! i watched better call saul a little over a year ago and damn, it’s so rare to find such interesting, well-developed, flawed within reason female characters in a tv drama like this. her intelligence and her tendency to get carried away with jimmy don’t contradict each other but work together. her emotional journey….UGH!! kim x post-prison jimmy, who else hopes?
6. xie lian (tgcf/heaven official’s blessing)
so this one is new and i’m not completely sure the deep impression will last yet, but i’ll explain. when i first read tgcf about two years ago, i kind of skimmed because it was so long, and the feelings i had toward xie lian were…not super favorable. i was kind of bored by him and….i saw him as a lesser wei wuxian. AND I WAS WRONG!!! because i reread tgcf finally a couple of months ago, no skimming, really thinking about what i was reading and now i love him. his journey from optimistic prince who had never before suffered to carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders to nearly collapsing under that weight but despite all odds, pulling through and once again finding that optimism, or at least hope. it touched me so much this time around!!! also i don’t know why i thought he was boring first time around. this guy is funny as hell! anyway, lots of lessons to apply to my own life and whatnot.
7. ninth doctor (doctor who)
guys….hear me out. notice im not saying “the doctor” because i think most of doctor who is just nonsense. but that one season with the ninth doctor (and okay i like the tenth doctor’s seasons well enough, or i did really love them. less so these days…). so much potential. so when i say he’s one of my favorite characters ever, i accept that it’s mostly the version of the doctor that lives in my head and isn’t subject to the bad writing decisions made later in the show. it’s a lot of sentimentality, but i am really fascinated by this traumatized alien guy who just lost his entire people, finding himself devolving into more violent, unforgiving tendencies, but meeting rose, jack, whoever else along the way is able to remind him of not who he was but who he could be. of course doctor who is forever ongoing though so character development can only go too far lol.
8. nozue (old-fashioned cupcake)
this is also brand new so not sure if lasting because i only just read and watched ofc, but man. this guy’s journey from being defeatist about getting older and turning 40, being afraid of trying anything new, to allowing himself to experience new things, one of those things being falling in love! his whole concept of using regret as fuel for happiness, transmitting that idea to togawa who transmits it back to nozue later!! ahhh!! so like my love for this character might actually just be love for the entire story but i can’t not mention it every five seconds rn so….
9. isabel archer (portrait of a lady)
so this is the protagonist of henry james’s portrait of a lady, which i finally finished reading last month. and gosh! well the book itself was amazing, but i was especially touched by isabel’s character, mainly because she just felt so realistic. her motivations, her goals, her shift, her sorrows, they all feel earned, creating an incredibly vivid character that i think most people can find something in there to relate to, especially other women who have always been told they are clever and imaginative and yet find themselves struggling internally to live up to those expectations.
10. natasha rostova (war and peace)
it’s been years since i read war and peace in my university freshman seminar, so it’s hard for me to speak on the details of why exactly this character is here. but also it’s no surprise because this is a character that continues to be the star of russian literature. what i can say, she’s another bright, carefree character (clearly symbolizing aspects of russian culture but even beyond that) who it’s impossible not to feel deeply connected to. she goes through some pretty life-altering stuff in war and peace (everyone listen to the musical called natasha, pierre, and the great comet of 1812 for those details!!) and as the reader, you just really feel for her. idk man she still stands out in my mind, but also this is also much thanks to the musical i just mentioned above.
i kind of came up with these on the spot so like…who knows how accurate this is, but i like to talk about the things i like so sue me. thank you for the question though!!

November F1c Prompts Day 5
A/N: Let's just not pay attention to the number on the days okay? okay.
Day 5 - Sight (Sky)
You love so many things about Perth, which isn’t what you were expecting. You gravitated to big cities as soon as you could travel on your own, lived in Rome and New York as naturally as a fish in water.
But from the very first time (in the in between time, when you were just a friend who had the flexibility to be able to travel and mentioned off-hand that you were at a loose end for Christmas – Daniel had found it so inconceivable, that someone could end up alone on Christmas and be okay with it) you’d found things to love in the big-country-town masquerading as a city.
In the time between the first Christmas and the next you’d moved from friends to seeing each other (still more situationship than anything else, then) and you looked at Perth through a different lens; then it turned into the faraway fond look in his eyes when he said ‘home’, the golden tan of his skin after a trip back there, and the comforting noises of his family on their twice a week FaceTimes.
The one that surprised you the least was the night sky on the farm. For all you love big cities, the light pollution blocks the stars, and the moon doesn’t look like it shines quite as bright, and if there are two things you’ve always loved it’s the moon and stars (from glow in the dark plastic meticulously arranged into mostly correct constellations on your ceiling as a kid to tracing them into the moles and freckles on his back as an adult).
-
The week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve stretched like molasses in the heat, even slower once everyone went back to their own houses.
(“To give you kids some privacy.” His sister said with a wink, followed by laughter from the other side of the door he shut in her face. He opened it less than five seconds later to say a proper goodbye to the kids, promised to have them for a sleepover soon)
“Can I show you something?” He asked, almost shy.
It was the shyness that threw you off. He’s not a shy person by nature. Careful, maybe, but not shy. And you’d expect that sentence to come steeped in innuendo, accompanied by a raised eyebrow and a smirk – especially that late, when you were curled on the huge couch with the book you were reading, tv on low in the background.
You thought he’d been puttering around after his shower, doing all the little homely things he didn’t normally get to do.
You shut your book. “Yeah, of course.”
He held out a hand from the doorway, waiting patiently for your fingers to find his. “Shoes.” He instructed, let you go so you could both slip on a pair of Vans from next to the door (it made you laugh in a stupid little fond way, that you preferred the same shoes). He picked up your hand again easily, like a habit.
“Is this the bit where you take me into the bush and it’s actually a horror movie? Nobody around for miles...”
He grinned, teeth flashing white in the porch light. “You left alive last year.”
“So that nobody would get suspicious, clearly.”
“Well, shit. There goes that plan.” He couldn’t even finish the sentence with a straight face.
You jostled him, shoulders bumping as you walked down the porch steps and into the warm night. “So, where are we going?”
“If I told you, it wouldn’t be a surprise.” He squeezed your hand before you could say anything. “I know, you don’t love surprises. But I think this one will get a pass.” He laughed, just a little self-deprecating huff. “Or, I hope it will anyway.”
In the end it was only the other side of the field next to the house, not even a 5 minute walk and the soft glow of light from the windows still just visible. There was a picnic blanket spread out and a bottle of wine, two glasses, next to it.
“Daniel...” You couldn’t stop the warmth seeping into your voice, soft in the warm night.
“Sit.” He nudged you, and then settled next to you. He made a pleased noise when he sipped the wine, and then lay down. “Come here?” It came out more like a question.
You savoured the red wine, fruity and pillowy in your mouth and just cool enough on the way down once you sipped. You were sure if you looked it would be the one you said you liked when you went on the tour with him and his friends. You settled down next to him, tucked yourself into the space between his arm and his body easily.
“Look up.” He whispered, breath stirring the hair on the top of your head.
The nights in Perth weren’t oppressive, except for the heat sometimes. They just settled around you like a weighted blanket, draped, and if you let them, the night sounds come right up to you - even if they’re far away.
You looked up and your breath caught in your throat, just for a second. Nothing interrupted the inky night sky except the bright splash of the galaxy running through it like a twinkling work of art.
“Oh my god.”
He sounded pleased. “It’s different out here, hey?”
“You can see so much...”
He squeezed his arm tighter for a second, long fingers almost caressing your arm. “Tell me?”
You felt self-consciousness creep onto your cheeks (but at least he couldn’t see it, in the beautiful, dark night). “Ah...it’s silly. I don’t...”
“You know all the constellations and all the stories.” He knew. Whether he’d worked it out or you told him about your fascination as a kid that never really went away, he already knew. “Tell me them.” His voice was soft and rumbly in his chest, right near your ear.
You started talking and he just listened, fingers still soft on your bare arm, and eyes following eagerly when you pointed out different constellations. You kept talking when you sat up for more wine, and on and on, almost through the whole bottle.
It must have been after midnight, when he looked over at you and you smiled tentatively back. “Sorry. I should have said...there’s a lot, I didn’t realise how much I remembered.”
He shook his head. “Why would you be sorry? Its amazing.” He leaned against you, kissed your cheek. “You’re amazing.” Daniel rested his head on your shoulder. “I really...” He hesitated, and you heard him swallow. “I really like you, you know?”
It came out soft, almost fragile. The night sounds moved around it to make space.
It had been coming, for almost a year. You found it didn’t scare you as much as it did in the beginning, the idea of it (of you, collective). You draped your arm over his shoulders to feel some of the tension drain from his body, felt the rest of it go when you kissed the side of his head. “I really like you too.”
“Okay,” he kissed your neck, turning his head just enough. “Okay, good.”
You knew there were bigger conversations to come (and they had), but it was enough then just to sit there in the still, warm night, feel the promise of it (of you, together) radiate up to the stars.

kief i think im a loser no one ever wants to be my friend and it makes me cry once a year at least. I cant remember the last time i had a friend. All my phone log history is just calls or texts from my mom every couple weeks. Its just hard for me to make friends.
It can be hard making friends, you have to put yourself out there in a scary way and sometimes you don't get returns on it, which is never fun.
I don't think having no friends makes you a loser. I think it shows great resilience to keep on trucking when you're missing this vital part of your life.
I can't magic friends for you, though I wish I could, but I could offer some advice making adult friends that hopefully might help you feel better:
Put yourself in places and situations where you have to meet people. Yes, you could go to a bar or coffee shop and hope to strike up a conversation, but don't forget to look outside the box. An art class, a volunteer opportunity, a local debate - who knows. The important thing is that people will never materialize inside your house, so you have to go where the people are.
Don't forget to be interesting :) That's to say, you're definitely already interesting, you have thoughts, opinions, personal history that makes you interesting...but sometimes getting to that level of intimacy takes some time. So be open about your hobbies and weird niche knowledge! Maybe you think no one wants to hear your obsession with whatever thing, but it's not true. The more you talk about it with people you know and strangers, the more practice you get at talking about it in a way that is casual conversation friendly. And sometimes it'll always be a miss with some people, oh well you'd probably never click with them anyway. The second side of this is to keep pursuing things you like and make you happy, the more skills, hobbies, and knowledge you're pursuing (just pursuing, you don't have to be an expert to be interesting!), the more you have to talk about. The fall back of course if you're thinking "but I'm a big loser who doesn't do or know anything" (you're not) is that watching a tv show, a movie, or reading a book is something every one "gets", so make sure you're prioritizing time to do these fun activities a couple times a week because the more you see and read, the more chance you have to meet someone who's also seen it or read it.
When you meet someone you like, don't be coy. If you're worried about coming on too strong, a good exercise is to think about someone you don't know well telling you they really like you and want to get to you know. How would you want to be told? What would actually come off too strong? What might be odd but forgivable, especially if they seemed nervous? What would actually have to be said that would be an absolute no-starter? You probably have a lot more patience for fictional strangers, so it's worthwhile to assume lots of real life strangers will be patient with you. Plus, everyone likes having friends! People are more often than not very flattered to hear a nice person likes them. I think a good opener is something that's direct, like this: "I've enjoyed meeting you. I'd like to get to know you better, I think we could be really good friends."
When asking people to be friends, invite them to do something and don't be vague or put off details. Don't say: "Let's get coffee sometimes." Do say: "Do you want to get coffee with me tomorrow?" Don't say: "We should go see a movie next week!" Do say: "I want to go see X movie, are you available Saturday to come with me?" If the first response is a "Oh that doesn't work for me," then suggest an alternative plan. If they can't commit to an activity or time, just drop it, they're probably just trying to be nice or something else is going on. But the truth is the reason why when you say "we should hang out sometime!" and they say "yeah!" and then nothing ever happens is not because no one wants to be friends with you, but because everyone is bad at this. Vague plans are easy to agree to without lying, and everyone wants to protect themselves. But there's relief when someone takes the burden of planning off their shoulders.
If you're seeking long term, deep friendships, just know it takes time and it takes vulnerability. It's okay to have only a handful of fairweather friends to start. They're not false, per se, they just serve a different need. They're fun friends. But fun friends can become deep friends with effort and time. If you meet someone you only sorta connect with on some things, you don't have to write them off. Maybe you'll never be deeply entwined in each other lives, but having someone to get lunch with a few times a year can be a nice touchstone in your life. Let the friendship unfold, and that can be enjoyable in itself.
My final advice is: when you're feeling down, remember I'm rooting for you :) one stranger to another, I understand the struggle. You're lonely, but you're not alone, I promise. <3

What if I scripted Stephanie Meyer's "The Host" into a TV show, and I kept all the rad as fuck sci-fi concepts and the messaging about human love and resilience, but I removed all the nasty bioessentialism and openly advocating for teen girls to date adult men. What then?
Probably would keep the focus on Wanda and Melanie's relationship, rather than the love square/jealousy plot. I never liked how after Melanie started "fading" in the book she basically became a nothing character. Also the way she completely lost all sense of self and/or rationality whenever her dude was around was uh. Dumb.
Also the cast of the human survivors are so potentially interesting, but we never spend any time with them. They could have sub-plots! We could get to know them! The funeral scene of that one guy would be way more emotionally effective if he like. Actually had a character before dying.
We're keeping all the alien species as they were described, like the telepathic underwater plants, or the polar bears with hand blades, or the bats who communicate entirely by singing. Also benevolent parasitic communism. That's good as is.
But yeah every scene with Jared or Ian needs to be at least slightly reworked, so we can get them to the level of "flawed yet compelling" instead of "irredeemable assholes". And we're aging Melanie up a few years, that's going to solve a lot of our problems from the get go.
Uncle Jeb and Jamie are mostly good, they can stay. And the basic plotline of the human characters being rightfully terrified of Wanderer because of what her species has done to the human race, but as a result mistreating her, since there's no way for her to adequately communicate she's not a threat to them, and then slowly learning to accept and to trust. Honestly that slaps. I love when characters get the shit beat out of them because of Circumstances. I love when people who think that they have to be enemies, because they have every reason to be, because not only are they on opposing sides but they have actively harmed one another already, decide to become family instead. Favorite storyline, has the same vibes as that one ATLA fanfic where Zuko's taken captive on a water tribe ship, y'all know what I'm talking about [you likely do not know what I am talking about].
Basically The Host would be one of my favorite books ever if it didn't suck so bad. Also no one ever cared about the movie adaptation. A TV show could be so kickass. Thank you for attending my ted talk.

MvA: The 'M' Files take-a-peak, pt. 1
Imma be giving this out in parts. And I won't take forever, I pinky promise. I will be making commentary on this, so feel free to just look at the pictures.
I do NOT own any of this, this is all property of DreamWorks
Tumblr media
Cover
Ok, I've always loved the BOB holding Dr C image, but the "Maj. Richard Head" name tag (in the lower left corner) totally went over my head as a kid. But now that much of my innocence is gone, I wonder how on earth DreamWorks (DW) let this sort of thing slip onto the cover of a kids' book. But then again, the MvA movie and even the TV show had its fair share of adult humor too. So no argument
So...let's continue
Tumblr media
Intro
Okay, reaffirming that Area 5X is in the middle of a desert. It says the desert, but which desert? BOB's Big Break (I'll just call it BBB) said Nevada desert so we'll just run with that
"KP" means "kitchen police" or "kitchen patrol". Thank you, Mr. Google, for the clarification
A lone bench. And the only bench for miles around. Totally inconspicuous. About as inconspicuous as one lady at my local supermarket who stole clearance stickers from the clearance shelf & put them on expensive items...all while wearing a bright red coat you could see a mile away
Tumblr media
And this, I guess, is how the average person gets into Area 5X. Or at least a first-timer. Yeah, there's that runway & the tower with the Area 5X emblem (as shown in the TV series, the video game, & the Art of MvA book), and the "roof" area in BBB. The world is truly a mysterious place
Chapter 1
Tumblr media
A loop-the-loop. Always a loop-the-loop. Also, the physics in that hamster tunnel is killing me
Tumblr media
And enter the dragon himself
Tumblr media
Guantanamo (thanx again, Google) is a military detention camp and prison in Cuba. It opened in 2002, so I'm guessing that this comic is set in the mid-2000s, a few years before Susan showed up. I think I'd rather have that tranq syringe in the situation room in the movie than spend eternity in a camp
Link's cell is so tiny!!
And is Monger's speech balloon covering up a fitness poster or a beach babe poster? I mean, in one piece of concept art, there's a blow-up doll in his tank/cell, so...but then again, a lot of the concept art featured some not-so child-friendly material
Awww, Insecto
Tumblr media
Dr C looks like ET. I can't even!
Is BOB juggling or practicing levitation? No matter what he's doing, what is that?
The American people? What about the British people? The Japanese people? The average world citizen?! Either this was semi-lazy story-writing or the average American has a weaker mental stability than the rest of the world population (as an American myself, I would totally believe the latter). If it's just Americans, then let Insecto go back to Japan but away from Tokyo! Get Dr C back to his lab in the UK where he can FINALLY finish his experiments.
But this is a kids' book, so I'll stop whining...for now
To be continued
Well, I hope so far y'all have enjoyed this. See you next time!
