Media Interrogation [Part 2] (LN4)

(Read part 1 here!)

Summary: He had prayed the media would leave his newfound ‘friend’ out of their questions, only focusing on the race. But Lando Norris would soon see he wasn't so lucky. A/N: I don't know how Twitch works so excuse the poorly explained streaming things.

A little less than two weeks after Lando had met his new neighbor, they had spent any time they could together, and any time they couldn’t they were texting and calling. It was exciting, they weren’t dating per se, still trying to get to know each other before they jumped into anything, but this newfound friendship had been great for both of them. Slowly, Lando had been introducing her to some of his friends, and with all the new faces, she didn’t feel half as lonely as she used to.

It was wonderful.

He had warned her about the stream, leaving the details of him turning bright red, giggling, and Max admitting that Lando had called her his “cute neighbor” out. But, of course, after she spent far to long going through the #landonorris tag on various social media sites, she had found a clip of the interaction. Seeing how giddy he was about it, even after meeting her for only a minute, made her giddy as well, happy to know that it seems her feelings weren’t one sided.

He had invited her to the race, being as it was at Silverstone, but the thought of going there and meeting new people and being seen by the media so soon after her and Lando just met made her nervous, so she politely declined.

Although he was a bit upset, he understood her reasoning.

Before the race, Lando was with Oscar giving various interviews, with mostly race related questions. ‘How was the car feeling?’, ‘you think you guys can give Max a run for his money this weekend?’, etc. It was easy and he wasn’t worried about intrusive questions.

Until they opened it up to the fans.

When they said they’d take fan questions, Lando began to sweat. Beside him, Oscar let out a laugh, knowing what the first question was bound to be.

“Lando, it seems you made friends with you “cute neighbor” while streaming, have you guys talked more?” one of the fans asked.

Shit.

He probably should have warned her this would happen but, maybe it was wishful thinking, he hadn’t expected to be asked about it. And maybe his cute neighbor wasn’t even watching.

“Uhhh” he said as he let out an awkward laugh, “Yeah, we have talked a bit more. The cookies were really good so I’ve been trying to get the recipe.” Lies, he hadn’t asked for the recipe, he just wanted her to make the cookies for him again.

“Is she your girlfriend?” Another fan yelled out.

There was a beat of silence from Lando, causing fans to laugh at his awkwardness around the situation. Oscar, now feeling bad for his teammate, jumped in.

“He shared some of the cookies with me too. He wasn’t kidding when he said they were really good. Might have to ask her to make me a batch.” Oscar jokes.

Seeing as he wasn’t going to answer the girlfriend question, which wasn’t even a proper question as the fan just yelled it out instead of waiting to be picked, the interviewer moved on.

He really hoped she wasn’t watching this.

She was totally watching this and enjoying every second.

It felt nice to see Lando blushing so profusely at the mention of her, which made her feel better for also blushing profusely when he talked about her.

Since she saw the stream, she had noticed he definitely had a bit of a crush on her, but she didn’t know how deep it went. If it was a tiny crush that was bound to fade as they became closer, or if this closeness was going to lead to an even bigger crush. Only a few weeks into their friendship though, and she had already fallen fast and hard.

She couldn’t do anything. She'd never do anything, even though she so badly wanted to. All her new friends were Lando’s, if he wasn’t as serious as she hoped about his feelings, it would crush her. She wouldn’t be able to stay friends with him and in turn would lose all the new friends she had made.

So she vowed to not make the first move.

Eventually, three months had gone by and the pair only became more inseparable. Instead of planning mini vacations and trips between races, Lando always tried to get home so he could see his favorite neighbor, who he now knew he had massive feelings for.

She had started work and it was going great! Her worries about being alone if she lost Lando went away as she made more non-Norris-acquired friends.

The two had also graduated to an even deeper level of intimacy. They weren’t sleeping together, or straight up kissing. But holding hands, cuddling, kisses on the cheek or forehead, were all normal for the pair. Sure it seemed so childish to dance around their feelings at their grown age but it's all they could do for now.

Baking had become a new hobby as well. Before moving, she couldn’t really say she was much of a baker, only doing it when it came to birthdays or bake sales. But with Lando becoming increasingly more obsessed with her cookies, she had started to branch out with other flavors, even throwing in muffins or a pie.

She had just finished a new recipe her mom sent her, which were divine, when she knocked on Lando’s door, flashbacks to the first time they met those few months ago going through her head.

Lando, also like those few months ago, had been streaming when he got a knock on his door. Smiling to himself as he already knew who it would be, which the fans most certainly caught, he quickly excused himself to go open it. When he saw her there, he immediately pulled her into a hug.

“I’ve missed you.” He mumbled into her neck.

“You saw me yesterday.” She laughed, happy to know he missed her as much as she did him.

“Can’t blame me for wanting to see my favorite girl all the time.” He replied.

“Favorite girl, huh? It's an honor. I don’t know what I did to deserve such a title.” She teased.

“Your cookies, of course!” He said as he pulled back, when she shot him a look, he continued, “and your wonderful personality, and how great of company you are.”

“That's more like it. Speaking of, I tried a new recipe and, not to toot my own horn, these are the best yet.” She said as she grabbed the container of cookies from her bag.

“Yes! Thank goodness I was beginning to experience withdrawal. I am streaming right now, they are always asking about you since the- anyway, could I do a taste test? You can join me, I think the chat would love it. I would love it. But you don’t have to if-” He began to ramble, clearly feeling awkward at almost admitting just how much she is brought up on his streams.

“No, that sounds great! I definitely join.” She immediately regretted the words the moment they left her mouth but the look on Lando’s face stopped her from taking it back. He has lit up in a way she hadn’t seen and all she wanted to do was forever make him light up that way.

He quickly pulled her to his streaming room, giving her a quick kiss on the cheek before pulling her onto the screen. “I’ve returned with cookies, oh and of course a special guest. Guys, please don’t be weird. Be normal or I'll end the stream.” He joked, but also prayed that his fans would for once listen and try not to embarrass him for their own entertainment. He knew they wouldn’t listen though.

Immediately after saying that, someone donated and got their message read out loud,

‘Are you the cute girl that gave him cookies?’

“Uh I don’t know. That depends. How many cute girls give you cookies, Lan?” She teased.

“Oh hundreds, I am constantly drowning in sweet baked goods. My trainer hates me now.” He teased back.

“Then I guess I should take these back, don’t want to make your trainer even more mad.”

“Over my dead body. Seriously, you’d have to pry these out of my cold dead hands. Anyway, this is a taste test of a new recipe, as was explained to me ‘it's the best yet’. You guys can’t eat them obviously so I’ll try to be descriptive.”

After one bite, Lando started moaning in a way that was uncomfortable for everyone except him. Her face had never felt hotter at the sounds he was making and she was far too scared to check to see if her face was as red as it felt.

Do you hear him make those noises a lot?

“Alright! I told you if you guys made it weird I’d end it, so you lost your privileges. Goodbye everyone, think about what you did.” Lando was kidding, his fans knew it, but it was a pretty crazy question to ask. Not that the chat cared.

“Wow, I wasn’t expecting all that.” She said once he turned off the stream.

“I know, I’m sorry they get like that.” He replied, feeling bad that he hadn’t explained well enough what she should expect.

“No, I thought they would be worse to be honest, I meant the moans you were making from my cookies.” “Oh come on they weren’t that crazy, and the cookie was amazing, I had to.”

“Lando, those noises were nothing short of erotic, I was worried how far you were going to go if you had another bite.” She teased.

They both laughed and after a few seconds, a beat of silence fell over them. As they looked into each other’s eyes, the energy in the room shifted. Finally, Lando spoke up.

“Can I kiss you?” He asked.

“Please,” She replied.

Explosions, fireworks, sparks, whatever you want to call it, they felt it. It was so cheesy but it was so electric, they couldn’t help but feel like they did in the movies.

After a much needed breather, before going in for more, Lando asked, “Let me take you out, properly, please? Like an actual date.”

“Only if it's not a seafood place, I’m allergic to fish.”

“Good God, I’m gonna fall in love with you.”

The fact that Aegon loving his children it’s even book canon. TGC is describing Aegon’s personality as it is hinted in the book and yet people is mad.

Tom literally acknowledges he is not a good parent but he loves his children.It makes total sense that he would have a complicated relationship with fatherhood based on how his father treated him. Or that in his mind, he wants to be better than Viserys.

Thank you anon! You're exactly right, we've always known from the book that he loved his children. Adding onto that is that we have barely seen 20 minutes of Aegon until now, if the early reviews are true we'll get 15 minutes of Aegon in the first episode ALONE. Of course we find out much more about the character, we barely know anything about him!

This made me wonder; what do we know about Aegon?

We meet Aegon for the first time in episode 3 of season 1. He is just a two year-old who plays with a wooden dragon toy and yet the older characters around him only see him as a threat, a pawn or, by his father, as a replacement— watching the episode it's clear to me that Viserys wanted Baelon, Aegon cannot be Baelon. It's pretty telling that the only positive on-screen interactions Aegon has with his father are in this episode. He is a little kid still, Viserys can project his wishes and fantasies about Baelon onto him, something he isn't able to do once his son is grown up.

I think it's pretty crucial to understand this part of Aegon's and Viserys' relationship— the perfect ideal of Baelon (he killed the only woman he ever loved for the perfect son; you cannot come back from that) stands between them, like a shadow Aegon could never escape and a standard he could never meet.

We don't really see Aegon again until episode 6— he is a teenager now and thus a completely different person. The little baby from episode 3 has been shaped by years of neglect, unfulfilled expectations, and the toxic dynamics within the family. What has he become? He is a 15 year old with problematic relationship to alcohol that is used as the punching bag of the family. He jacks off from windows (welcome back Roman Roy!), leers at maids and bullies his younger brother.

Teen Aegon is perceived as a disappointment by his grandfather, who sees him just as a weakling and a pawn to be controlled (a belief he still holds at the start of season 2 apparently). His mother projects her own ambitions, resentments and fears onto him.

These behaviors are all very troubling and someone should've done something to prevent these habits from festering within him; no one did. I honestly feel like no one really cares about him that much.

And yet, there is also so much postitive to be said about this iteration of him too, glimpses of Aegon's potential for goodness and his capacity for loyalty. You might call it naivety, but Aegon seems to believe in the good in people— he trusted Rhaenyra not to hurt him or his brothers if she was to become queen (something I agree with). He also seems to treat his nephews well enough, he doesn't seem to care about the bastard-allegations -> he also seems to be friends with bastards as an adult! Eddard Waters belongs to his entourage, this informs his character— yes he is an entitled prince, but there's also an element to him that is endearingly down-to-earth.

Another notable example is in episode 7, he decided to protect his mother after Aemond blamed him for spreading rumors about his nephews' legitimacy . He never cared about the rumors, yet he stood his ground and shielded his mother when faced with his father's wrath.

Ty Tennant does such a great job here. The scene highlights his complexity— he is not simply a drunken disappointment, a villain or a victim, but a young man trapped in a situation he doesn't seem to be able to get out of.

When we next see Aegon, he is in his early twenties, and the toll his upbringing took on him is evident. His introduction in episode 8 is a hefty one. He is shown sleeping off a hangover, his drinking habit from his youth has fully established itself in him. His mother yells at him, tries to get him to understand the consequences of his behavior— he has raped a maid, something that, disturbingly, is not new for him. This moment speaks volumes about the man the little boy from episode 3 has become: flawed, morally compromised, and numbed by his vices.

Further even, Aegon engages in activities that reflect a deep-seated cruelty and a disconnection from others— watching toddlers rip each other apart in brutal fights shows his general desensitization and apathy to everything. These behaviors are obviously unacceptable, but this is a fictional character we are talking about and you know what these behaviors tell me about him? These are just manifestation of the dehumanizing effects of his upbringing.

He is desperate to be loved but destined to be hated — Tom Glynn Carney

Because characters can be multi-faceted and complex, Aegon fights off insecurities and still yearns for love and acceptance from those around him. Him acting out like this can be read as misguided attempts to drown out the background noise, to try to assert control in a world where he feels constantly undermined and unloved. However, his actions only serve to alienate him further from the people he wants to be accepted by.

Aegon's aversion to the throne and his rejection of the responsibilities that come with it are just other manifestations of his deep-seated apathy. He despises the very idea of kingship and what it represents. He doesn't want to take up responsibility become a pawn, he yearns to run away but he himself knows that he will never be able to run.

The carriage ride to the sept and the coronation are gifts that keep on giving. It's all so horribly tragic. He never wanted this. Crowning him will kill him, he knows this is his end deep down!

He is so preoccupied with what his father wanted, Baelon is absolutely still haunting the narrative— his father's desire for him to embody virtues he never possessed or could aspire to (BAELON) are still at the forefront of his thoughts.

As he walks to receive the crown, he is literally crying, this single moment encapsulates it all so well. He is man who, despite his privileged position, is trapped by the very power and responsibility he was born into but never desired for.

But then, at the very end of episode 9, we see a shift in Aegon— something else to him that will be at the forefront of his character in season 2. He finally gets the adoration and the purpose he always sought after with the crown. The moment he realizes that the smallfolk is cheering for him is the moment the apathy that defined him up until now begins to lose its grip, replaced by newfound determination.

This change in Aegon will be furthered by the death of Jaehaerys, a source of pride and a reminder for him that he is capable to create and care for something precious and pure (thank you TGC) -> I won't go into this deeper, let's wait until the season airs.

In conclusion, a wise woman once said that apathy is death. For so much of his life Aegon embodied apathy, only for the very thing he feared most (kingship) to make him rethink everything. Aegon will be driven by his determination, but this path will lead to his destruction, consuming him until there is barely anything left of him. It will ultimately tear him apart; he is both redeemed and ruined by the weight of a crown he never wanted.

People often speculate about Jungkook being jealous or possessive, sharing edits that portray him in such a light. I've observed those instances where he appears visibly uncomfortable—whether Jimin is interacting with another idol, interviewer, Park Bo-gum, Taemin, or even Namjoon. However, I don't interpret these as signs of jealousy. Jungkook seems to embody a profound and all-encompassing love. All or nothing type of love. He wears his heart on his sleeve, in the open for everyone to see. While Jimin, more grounded, safeguards his emotions, valuing and protecting them deeply. Putting his wee lil pocket. Both of them love so deeply. They are two different individuals with distinct emotional expressions. In those so-called "jeonlous" moments, I see a man who, in a sudden moment of clarity, comprehends the depth of his love for Jimin and the potential pain of losing that love. To lose HIM. It's a visceral, gut-wrenching realization—the thought of your beloved finding happiness with someone else. A fleeting, yet intensely human reaction. Most of the things we see online are heavily edited and manipulated but there are instances where I felt just like I described above .

I have to say that imo, most of those Jeonlous edits or other videos potraying Jk as some jealous insecure lover are bullshit.

However, I think Jk does get jealous and possessive and not only with Jimin but with all his hyungs. He told us himself that he used to be very selfish and possessive and the kind of person who thought “what is yours is mine and what is mine is mine”. Ofcourse he has grown so much and has learned how to share but that jealousy and possessiveness are part and parcel of him. That is who Jungkook is lol. He has learned how to possess a healthy dose of jealousy and possessiveness (which is present in almost every relationship tbh) so i believe that he still feels a certain way when he sees Jimin interacting with certain people and also when he feels his members or friends giving other people the attention he wants.

Tae did say that Jk sulks when he isn’t given attention. We know him and Jimin were salty and jealous af when Tae started getting too close to his hwarang hyungs and they felt like his attention was divided, and there is that one mimimoni clip where Jk was clearly bothered by mimimoni up to the point where he pretended like he couldn’t hear Jimin who was seated right next to him with a mic, calling him lol.

Just watch this. My man was salty and it wasn’t a joke at all. I don’t know if he felt left out or if he got a little jealous because of the way Namjoon hugged Jimin but seeing how he himself has spoken about how possessive he used to be and knowing that he does get jealous, (the perilla leaves discussion) it isn’t unreasonable to say that is what was going on here.

This one i wouldn’t really say is jealousy but Jungkook’s reaction is always so funny to me. I guess it is possible that something about Taemin and Jimin’s friendship probably ticks him off too.

This is another moment where i genuinely feel like Jk got a little jealous. Not necessarily because he felt insecure but maybe just because he felt some way seeing Jimin give someone else that much attention plus taemin and jimin were really giggly and touchy and i noticed that Jk kept looking in their direction.

I did notice that Jk seems to be the type who looks away when he is jealous. Most times he just quickly looks at what is happening and looks away almost immediately lol. He is cute.

So while i get what you are saying about the jeonlous moments, i think Jk does actually get jealous and little possesive but not nearly as bad as people make it to seem. Jealousy and possessiveness aren’t necessarily bad qualities in human beings. When you love and care about something or someone, you tend to want to guard it jealousy and that is onlu because you love it. Can jealousy also be a negative trait? Absolutely but this is when it is excessive shown in moments when it isn’t necessary like the way some shippers (mostly tkkrs) make Jk out to be this insecure and dangerously jealous person who gets jealous at members simply putting an arm on Tae. That is ridiculous and doesn’t paint Jk in a good light at all.

There is a saying that You rarely know the value of what you have till you lose it or at the risk of losing it so i can jk looking at Jimin in those moments and realizing how valuable he is to him and not really wanting to share that amazingness with others, you know because of his perilla leaves personality, but at the end of the day, my man does get jealous and possessive and he isn’t even afraid to admit it.

I remember this clip from years ago when Jimin was the only one who could tell Jk’s jealous face. He must have seen Jk make that face way too many times to be the only one out of all the members to recognize it (i’m still salty they didn’t show us the face tho🙄)

Ranting about ACD Johnlock because these Victorian husbands need to be happy for me

What the hell happened between Holmes and Watson in 1902 and 1903?

Context: 3GAR is described as happening in July 1902, and ILLU happened in 1902. CREE and BLAN happened in 1903.

In 1902, Holmes and Watson were inseparable.

I don't even need to elaborate when I mention 3GAR. "It was worth a wound" should be enough to remind you of why. I was so touched when I read Holmes seeing his Watson injured and rushing to his side. He is terrified at the thought of losing his friend. It was amazing to read this seemingly cold, distant, and unemotional man threatening to murder the man who almost killed his best friend. There was loyalty, there was love, and it was beautiful.

According to ILLU, in 1902, they're also frequenting Turkish baths together. (which, I might add, was a common place for homosexual men to gather, do with that knowledge what you may) They're lying side by side on two couches with nothing but a blanket on either of them as they dry off. Watson hears Holmes is injured and nearly passes out, and he rushes to Baker Street to see him as soon as possible. He is terrified at the thought of losing his friend. He gingerly sits at his bedside to ensure that Holmes is okay. These are all very intimate things to do between friends. Indeed, this even suggests the possibility of the two being lovers.

IMAGINE that. These two are inseparable. Clearly, these two stories help to build on the idea that they love each other (platonically or romantically. To me, they seem romantically involved, but even as friends, they do love each other. It's all up to personal preference.) Their relationship is so strong, more than anything we have seen before. These stories showcase their love for each other and how passionate they are for each other.

Now, flash forward to 1903, when CREE and BLAN take place, and we are given an entirely different narrative. Watson describes himself as one of Holmes's "habits" in CREE, saying he felt as though he was an accessory to Holmes. Their relationship is "peculiar," and he is only called over to Baker Street as some kind of tool Holmes can talk to or use on a case. Holmes can rely on Watson, and he is, in a way, taking advantage of his reliability. Throughout the entire story, we can feel the tension between these two (remember how Watson had to stress over his practice in order to join Holmes on the case, and Holmes seemingly did not care at all). It seems partially resolved by the end, but there is still a feeling of bitterness that was fully apparent to me while I was reading it. It seemed like their interactions were angsty and passive-aggressive.

In BLAN, Watson does not even live with Holmes anymore, around a year after 3GAR and ILLU. Holmes explains he has "deserted" him for a wife, which he described as "the most selfish action I can recall in our years of association." Holmes was alone. In the story, Holmes cannot stop talking about how much he misses "his" Watson.

These four stories have such a sharp contrast. They have been absolutely terrorizing my brain a lot as of late. I feel like them being so close in ILLU, and *the* moment in 3GAR are some of their strongest moments together. They are both so terrified to lose each other. How is it that a year later, according to the canon, they are barely on speaking terms? My question is, if we are to trust the canon dates, what happened during those months that caused them to drift apart so terribly? How could Watson leave his Holmes for a wife so recently after these frightening events?

Another point about this supposed second wife. I don't think she even existed. (I do think Mary was really Watson's wife, and I might've reblogged a post about it somewhere) But about the second wife. As far as I'm aware, she's mentioned one (1) time in one (1) story by Holmes, and it was likely just a ploy by ACD to separate them (oh well, I'll just give him a wife. That'll separate them good enough.) It's easily enough ignored for that reason. Watson was, in fact, away from Baker Stret, but the idea of a wife was, in all probability, just made up by Holmes as an excuse for his absence.

I'd like to add my personal headcanon because the continuity in Sherlock Holmes is actually so messed up. John is called James in one story (TWIS, if you want to see for yourself.) October 9, 1890, is called a Saturday when it was really a Thursday (REDH) There's a story set in 1892, when Holmes was supposedly dead... etc, etc. Given the known unreliability of dates in these stories, would it be so unreasonable to suggest that the dates of the four I have talked about were swapped? That, in fact, CREE and BLAN were a falling out in their relationship and that ILLU and 3GAR was their healing? That the former were set in 1902 and the latter, in 1903? I can understand that after knowing someone and living with them for so many years, you may start to take them for granted. But after you narrowly lose them, you would not do such a thing again. (Especially not only a year after such a traumatic experience!!) Therefore, I believe CREE and BLAN were examples of how their relationship was beginning to fail and were actually set in 1902 (or some other date in the latter days of their relationship), and ILLU and 3GAR were reminders of how much they meant to each other, and they happened in 1903 (or, more simply, a year after CREE and BLAN).

Thank you for coming to my Ted talk. I know this is completely incorrigible and nobody's gonna read it but I just wanted to get it out there.

TL;DR: Late Sherlock Holmes canon sucks. No way that they had both near death experiences in 3GAR and ILLU, and less than a year latery they can barely stand each other in CREE and BLAN. My personal headcanon says CREE and BLAN were moments of stress in their relationship and that 3GAR and ILLU happened afterward to remind them of how much they appreciated each other and help reconcile them.

We are well beyond canary in the coalmine warning levels with the way trans people and particularly trans women are treated on this site.

Maybe you've heard the metaphor of allowing wolves and sheep to share the same space, welcoming everyone. You end up with just wolves because allowing them in that space makes it unsafe for any sheep. Or the story about how a nazi goes into a dive bar and is refused service. The bartender then explains to someone else at the bar that if you serve them once they tell their friends and before you know it you're the nazi bar they all go to and normal customers don't feel safe.

Terfs and other bigots are seeing these targeted harassment campaigns succeed against trans women and rejoicing. They see Tumblr ban them and officially stand by those decisions as endorsement for their harassment. It's a sign to bigots across the internet that Tumblr is a good place for them.

And what's more is that a lot of us probably don't realize just how much trans women contribute to Tumblr. The women banned recently were sources of site-wide memes and posts I wasn't even aware originated from them.any years old memes and references can be traced back to trans women on this site.

How many of these folks have to be removed before this is no longer a site you want to be a part of it? Sure you cultivate your own experience, but you can't follow or interact with people who aren't here. And if I wanted to interact with the nazis and terfs I'd go to reddit.

I encourage everyone to reblog this. Trans women shouldn't have to be the only ones speaking out against the bigotry they're experiencing. They shouldn't be the only ones risking their blogs being nuked by staff. We have to stand with them.

My favorite friendship in We Are the series:

Many people here on Tumblr have already made really interesting posts about how friendship is well-portrayed in the series. It's truly a delight to watch the big group of friends interacting together and having the time of their life.

You can see them in good time, but also in difficult time. They are ready to help when it's needed. As it was the case for Toey who got the help of almost the whole group to help him convey his feelings to Q, but also to know what he feels about him. There is always someone who is ready to listen to another one when they messed up or when they need another point of view.

All of this is really great to see. I think the last time I really like a group of friends as much as this one (in a gmmtv series), it was in "A boss and a Babe" (funny it's the same director). However, if I had to choose one friendship I like the most among all of them in the series. I would choose Q and Peem. I feel like they balance each other very well.

Q is a very calm and he seems impassive, but deep down he really understand his friend well. As for Peem he may seems like he can be impulsive, but it's not true. He is someone you can count on. They don't have to make big speeches. In few questions, they know what the other one wants to say. There is no judgement between them. They may tease each other, but it doesn't change the fact that they know when something is serious. They are ready to listen and support each other. This strong communication between them is fascinating and really amazing. It's why I like their friendship the most, even though the rest is already pretty great.

STANLEY MY FRIEND STANLEY.

we will never be able to fully rid ourselves of projecting onto the guy. with so little to go off of (loves bucket, curator and narrator both make claims about what he wants and who he is but that doesnt have to mean anything), we aren't able to wholly separate ourselves from the guy.

and i think that means loving stanley means loving traits abt ourselves.

anyway. my Stanley is painfully self aware of his role as a character in a game whose responsibility is to make choices. he knows that his choices mean nothing for the world but everything in terms of impacting the other person who he interacts with. He knows that in terms of the world, actions have little consequence, but in terms of people and relationships, those consequences may be the only things that ever stick.

I love him simple. I love that he does genuinely have fun with buttons, even outside of the idea of Mind Control. I love making him someone who thinks about the world in very simple ways. Not that he sees the world in black and white, and not that he's naive, but I like the idea that he breaks down things that seem complex, and are to some extent complex, and looks at them as simply as he can to make his choices.

sorry that's vague as hell. but I like to write Stanley kind, if mischievous. Boring in some of the most basic ways, and yet there's something unhinged abt him sometimes. (in the real world? he collects esoteric weapons. not to use. just because he thinks they are cool.)

if none of your choices matter except for how you impact other people, then you have a sort of freedom to do stupid things, and be silly, and be free, and be even a little naughty, so long as you don't do anything cruel.

So Stanley is silly. Stanley causes trouble and works up the Narrator, but Stanley does things to try to entertain himself and learn about the world he's in, not for control or power.

He's got stubbornness to him, because Stanley does what Stanley wants, and Stanley will not be bossed around, sure. He's eager to find new things where he can, because his role as protagonist, his code itself, demands he keep moving, keep exploring, keep playing the game. don't ever stop, the end is never the end.

but there's no malice.

and when you and your counterpart become painfully aware of your situation, that you can't get out but you can still grow and still impact each other, that your needs are designed to be in conflict but you don't actually want to cause pain, then you find ways to understand each other and make it work.

i love stanley. I know so much of this is just me projecting what i know and see and feel onto stanley, but I like the idea of a quiet sense of compassion and awareness in the guy who will never be able to directly share his thoughts with the player. I want him to be capable of feeling and thinking so much, in a quiet, genuine way.

tbh, as a woman who hangs out in communities where alot of middle aged men are guaranteed to gather around, you really hit the nail on the head. i've yet to find a tf2 fic that actually captures that male camaraderie that i've seen from the men around me.

Also, knowing this is the queer website and that much of the TF2 fandom is transmasc, I'm gonna address this so these kids can't go "I don't do that!! I'm a man!! I know what men act like because I-"

Men in queer spaces don't act the same way in the queer space as they do outside of it. I know I don't, cuz people get judgy. Queer community does not like men or masculinity. If you look too much like a man, or act too manly/boyish, or engage in male behaviours even with other men, they will look down on you. The only acceptable men are behaviorally effeminate, androgynous white twinks. If you divert from this in any way—too masculine, too POC, too physically male, too tall or fat or broad—they will treat you like a predator.

So a lot of these people, if they are interacting with men, are often interacting with other young transmascs who aren't socialised in male behaviour yet (usually online), or with men in queer spaces only—men who are masking. And they think men are just like this all the time.

And any man who doesn't play up the effeminate harmless uwu-shyboy persona is now scary or being toxically masculine because he's engaging in friendly ribbing with another man while being in a queer space.

I noticed it especially when me and an older bear went to a queer event (separately, we didn't come together) and he was practically ostracised because he's tall and bearded and bald and hairy and fat and very obviously male. And it turns out he was a trans man and he felt he didn't have a place in this event because everyone shunned him, or somehow managed to bring up toxic masculinity and how they don't feel safe with men in certain spaces, all in front of him while very obviously targeting him. The younger transmascs, of which there was quite a few, agreed with this. They ALSO didn't feel comfortable with him there because he was TOO male despite being just as queer as the rest of them (if not more—he was in his 50s and the oldest person there and had been out since his early 20s, so he defo had the most life experience of everyone there as far as the trans folk were concerned).

So naturally he and I hit it off. We separated off from the group, got drinks, and spent the afternoon in the corner, just us, discussing boats and fishing and lightly ribbing each other and laughing to ourselves while everyone else kept giving us glares and side-glances. Men are not welcome in queer spaces. Masculinity is not welcome in queer spaces. People treat ANY instance of masculinity as toxic. And so these young transmascs lost out on a perfect opportunity to see how men actually interact with each other, because the only other men they're actually interacting with are other trans men who don't know how men socialised as male act either.

It's kinda sad, in a way. Cuz they're gonna continue not knowing, and when the day comes they're gonna be blindsided and not know a fucken thing about how to be men in social environments because they don't wanna listen to or observe other men, not even the transmascs what came before them. Masculinity scary or some shit. And this is why it's SO IMPORTANT to have people outside of your familiar circle or your social group or your echo chamber as friends. It's why you should befriend your elders and learn from them, not shrink in fear cuz beards are scary or something. Not everyone can be a skinny white transmasc twink and not everyone WANTS to be. Masculinity is NOT a bad thing.

Anyway rant over. Point is these people don't know what male comraderie looks like cuz they don't actually put themselves out there to experience or observe it. Or even just engage in media where it's plainly showcased. 🤷‍♂️

The QSMP is so bittersweet. I understand why it ended, it needed to end. There were so many problems with mismanagement that needed to get dealt with and that was not going to happen when it was still being run. When it comes back I'm not sure if I'll continue watching. It depends on what streamers come back and if there are any changes to prove they are treating their admins better. I'll be honest, toward the end with their finale events I wasn't fully convinced that anything HAD changed yet and that was a little concerning.

However, it was SUCH a good project that did SO much good! So many streamers met that NEVER would have and have become such close friends because of it! They've traveled the world together! They're still planning meet-ups! They're still streaming together even without the server! I've heard several of them discuss wanting to put together QSMP lobbies of other games! Those connections it made were very real and very tangible and it changed so much for everyone involved. The communities of those streamers are still intertwined. If anyone streamed on the server a lot, their chats are full of international viewers now. I know multiple people who watch streamers who don't even speak their language. I sometimes watch Etoiles streams and I do not speak french. Aypierre made that twitch tool that autotranslates streams in real time and he made that BECAUSE of QSMP. This isn't even touching on the cultural exchange and how people lovingly share cultural differences between each other. Or all the people who started learning new languages!

I also miss the server itself. It had some of the most insane lore I have ever seen and the events were always chaotic and went wrong but there was charm in that. Knowing now that very little lore was planned out ahead of time and the lack of communication with admins is a little frustrating, but I appreciate what there was. It was such a unique server with a unique vibe that I don't think ever could be recreated. The egg event was never supposed to last longer than a few weeks but it ended up lasting a whole year. It was supposed to continue lasting as well. The eggs were unintentionally one of QSMP's greatest tools. They were a good ice breaker, they helped with communication and translation, they kept players from being too lonely and they were great for giving players someone to speak to lore about. Not to mention the eggs themselves were beloved characters who were played so lovingly by their admins. Many of the egg admins became friends because of QSMP and a lot of them still interact with the players. It was so heartbreaking to find out those admins were not being given the respect they deserve when they carried this server. They made the QSMP what it was.

Things will never be the same, there will never be a server like QSMP. Even QSMP 2 will not be the same. And it's so bittersweet because it was so good and there are so many things we will never get to see. I see so many plots that were supposed to happen but never got to come to fruition and it's just sad. No one wanted it to end like this, not even the admins, and it sucks that corrupt management ruined it for everyone. Still I am so grateful that it happened and I look forward to see what comes from it. I hear a lot of QSMP members are meeting up at Twitchcon.

Unpopular opinion #3 (since people seem to like these stuff)

I'm gonna get hate for this but

Hinny feels forced and out of nowhere to me.

They had the perfect set up for a cute romance. Best friend's younger sister whom he's used to take care of, but suddenly she grows, doesn't seek his attention anymore and he slowly gets to know her as her own person instead of his buddie's sister. He find himself drawn to her and feels guilty about it for the typical reasons, only to realize she feels the same way, always has, and boom, their feelings finally clash in a passionate kiss after months of sexual tension and years of mutual pining. Beautiful.

Or at least that's what could have been if we saw them interacting more after the Chamber of Secrets thing, but we don't. Ginny practically dissapears after that, we only know of her through others' pov, and when she finally becomes relevant in harry's radar is when she's dating other boys and shows her skills in the quidditch field. Then suddenly, he notices how beautiful and funny she is, even though they're from the same house and they've surely seen each other often, either at the Burrow or around the common room.

They don't have a proper built-up, or any relevant interactions that hints at harry's interest in her, at least not enough to showcase the epic endgame couple they're supposed to be. It feels to me like the recurring trope that when a girl is in love with the protagonist long enough, she's bound to end up with him. Or the when someone is in love with you for so long, you must give them a chance.

I think one of the reasons it pisses me off so much is ginny's wasted potential. Because we could have had an amazing and compelling story about personal growth with a girl that, sick of being in her brothers' shadow and overlooked, finds the courage to forge her own path and make people recognize her for who she is, not as another Weasley. A story where, instead of fooling around to "make time" until her crush to notices her, she moves on from him and starts to date boys because she actually likes them and enjoys dating.

But no. Instead, all that development from her part is reduced to "hermione told me you might like me if i acted more like myself" "she told me to date other boys" bla bla bla

In conclussion:

Hinny had great potential as a love story, but it was done poorly

(REMINDER: This is just my opinion, and by no means i intend to force it unto other people or offend anyone. if you like hinny as a couple, good for you. I won't attack you because of it)

When you think about the tavern excuse in Merlin (the only excuse Giaus seems to know), it makes a lot more sense in the later seasons if you're going under the assumption that Gwaine is just covering for Merlin. Like lying when Arthur asks occasionally while having no idea what Merlin is actually doing because he ain't no snitch.

Just a random thought that occurred to me while I was reading some fanfiction.

i mean, yeah, it does work a lot better and it's more believable if gwaine were the one to tell it.

if i'm remembering right, "the tavern" was used in the beginning of s3 before we meet gwaine and unfortunately, gwaine's stay in camelot that season is short bc he got banished. so, there'd be no way for him to cover for merlin BUT after the whole fisher king episode it would make sense (to arthur, i feel) that merlin would leave camelot to visit gwaine at a tavern bc the two just click.

i have half a mind to guess that arthur turns a blind eye if gwaine were to somehow sneak into camelot just to visit merlin during s3. i know we all joke about arthur being an oblivious idiot when it comes to noticing magic and shit, but the man is observant to a fault. he's got a keen eye (unfortunatley his observations fail when something contradicts a person he believes to know fairly well, and he chooses to ignore it), and it is not that hard to notice the chemistry between merlin and gwaine.

so when gwaine does join the knights in s4 and merlin starts going to "the tavern" more often, arthur could just chalk it up as him and gwaine having a night out. sure, he has to keep up appearances and one day visits gwaine just to remind him that it's not good for his manservant to be hungover almost every week. like, he has a job, ga-waine!

and gwaine just sits there, nods, cracks a joke about how maybe he should lighten merlin's chores, whilst making a mental note to ask merlin about whether or not he'll need him to cover for the man later this weekend. he never asks merlin why he'd need to cover for him (i'm of the belief that gwaine, though never told, had some idea of what big secret merlin was hiding), and merlin never asks gwaine why he'd lie to their king for him.

it's just a silent act of trust and love the two share and by god do i wish this was used because sure, gaius using the tavern is funny and all, but i would kill to have at least one scene where gwaine confirms, that him and merlin were hanging out at the tavern, covering for his friend without question.
