it’s not the most popular game out there or anything, but it’s a relief alan wake and other remedy games have fans because if i had to stew in my own thoughts over these games, my brain would explode from the pressure from keeping it all in

im like a woman in a desert dying we are so depraved of bloodhound x reader stuff pls just give anything at this point 😭😭😭🤲🤲🤲🤲🤲
Don't worry pookie I am here to quench your thirst <3
Bloodhound is honestly my favorite character to write about and this one flustered me a bit dbsbbsjska
CONTAINS: established relationship, alcohol consumption, jealousy, possessiveness but in a non-toxic way, a little bit of spice, not full on smut but it gets pretty spicy >:)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Celebrating a win was very popular amongst the legends. Mirage often invited everyone to the Paradise Lounge for some drinks and good laughter, even the less cheerful legends attended most of the time. Caustic could be found sipping beers and glaring at people, while Ballistic complained on and on about how they didn't even serve good tea.
Today, you sat at the bar between a very tipsy Fuse and an arguably even tipsier Valkyrie. Mirage popped in and out of the celebration as he served customers, but he always made sure your glass was full with whatever drink you desired.
"Mate! That wingman shot was bloody beautiful!" Fuse practically yelled into your ear as his metal hand clapped you on the back, making you wince slightly. Somehow, you had managed to pull off a win after responding in the last ring with only a wingman and one other teammate at half health. I guess whatever god is out there took the wheel because suddenly your aim was the best it's ever been and you downed the last two enemies with two headshots.
"I know, Walter. You've told me about fifteen times since we sat down." Rolling your eyes, you down the rest of your drink before scouring the crowd of legends to try and find Bloodhound. They said they'd be there, but you hadn't seen them yet. Although, it's hard to find anyone with the flashing lights and the alcohol starting to take effect.
Giving up, you turned back to your empty glass and smiling friends. If they didn't come, that was fine. They usually didn't enjoy settings like this anyway, they only only came to guide you back to room after you got wasted.
"The old man's right, though." Valkyrie added in, dragging your attention away from Bloodhound and back into the party. "Seeing you hone into the fight always surprises me, I swear your whole energy changes. It's fucking hot."
The pilot said it so nonchalant, taking a swig of her drink and signaling to Mirage for another like she didn't just call you hot. You couldn't tell if the heat on your face was from the alcohol or how flustered you felt. Probably just the alcohol.
"I'm gonna hafta agree with Valk on this one." Fuse said, still quite loud. He put his arm around your shoulders. "You make bloodlust look bloody sexy. No pun intended." His laugh is deep and booming, shaking your body as he leans on you. What the fuck is happening? You knew the two of them were flirty drunks, but you'd never had their affections directed at you before.
Again, you found yourself looking around the room, and this time you spotted Bloodhound leaning against a wall, watching you. Fuck. They were mad, you could tell. Even without seeing their expression you could practically feel the anger rolling off of them. The fact that Fuse was now playing with strands of your hair and Valkyrie had her hand on your upper arm didn't help your case at all.
You quickly got up, saying a small goodbye to your companions before making your way to a pissed off Bloodhound. They didn't even wait for you to get to them before they walked out the door, leaving you to hurry after them.
"What was that, elskan?" Their voice surprised you as you left the building, and you whipped your head around to see them beside the doorway. They leaned again the wall once again, arms crossed over their chest.
"I'm sorry, Hound. They were drunk and they surprised me and I didn't know what to do and I didn't mean to let them keep going and I-"
"Hush." Bloodhound interrupted your nervous rambling, holding a hand out in a 'halt' gesture. You shut your mouth as quickly as you possibly could, not wanting to anger them any more than you thought you already had. Before they continued speaking, they led you around the side of the building into a less visible alleyway. "I am not blaming you, I simply wanted to know what happened."
They weren't mad at you? Thank the Allfather. Having Bloodhound mad at you was something straight out of a horror film. Your body relaxed, but you still kept your head down instead of looking into their face.
"They got drunk... and we were talking about my win." You started your explanation again, slowly this time to avoid rambling. "Their compliments started getting flirty, and then they started getting touchy. I should've pushed them off, I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize. You are not responsible for the actions of drunken fools." Bloodhound grabbed your chin with a gloved hand, lifting your face to look them in the eyes. Well, where their eyes would be behind the goggles of their mask. "I trust you, elskan. I know that you are mine, and you would not betray me. Especially for someone like Walter Fitzroy."
You laughed, the tension leaving you as you slowly let yourself process the fact that they weren't mad at you. From the way their shoulders jumped slightly, you could tell they were laughing too.
"However," Bloodhound continued, letting go of you and reaching behind their head. "It seems like our other other companions need a reminder of who you belong to." You heard the familiar sound of their mask being unclasped, and soon enough you were really looking into their eyes as they set their mask along with their respirator onto an old wooden box beside the two of you.
You couldn't even speak before they grabbed your waist, spinning you around so your back was pressed up against the rough brick wall. You could only gasp as their hands gripped at your skin and their face nuzzled into your neck, leaving small kisses along your jawline.
"You are so beautiful. So perfect, ástin mín." Bloodhound muttered praise as the kisses slowly became more desperate. They nibbled at your skin lightly, not enough to hurt just yet. You looked towards the alley opening and whined slightly.
"Hound, someone could see us..." You grabbed at their shoulders, trying to push them back away from your neck. They pulled back, not even looking at the alley, only into your eyes.
"Would you like me to stop?" Bloodhound rubbed soothing circles into your hips, keeping your attention on them and not the possibility of someone seeing the two of you.
"No... but what if they see your face?"
"They will not. I will be too busy giving you tons of pretty marks."
Bloodhound didn't let you speak again as they dived back into the crook between your shoulder and your neck, sucking on the skin harshly. You couldn't suppress the moan that left your lips no matter how hard you tried, and you quickly slapped a hand over your mouth to muffle any further noise. They just continued to mutter praise into your skin while they savored every reaction you gave them.
It hurt, and you squirmed in their bruising grip. They were determined to mark you up until they were satisfied and wouldn't settle for any less. It was a miracle no one managed to walk past the alleyway while Bloodhound ravaged your neck and collarbones. It wasn't like you were being quiet either, the intensity at which they sucked and bit at your skin was enough to make tears well up in your eyes and to bring so many sinful noises from your mouth.
"I should just take you right here, where anyone could see how good I make you feel, elskan." They whispered in your ear, making your knees buckle and your eyes roll back. Good thing they were holding you against the wall, or you might've just fallen to your knees right then and there.
After what felt like forever, their teeth stopped grazing your skin and their grip on your waist loosened. You could feel their tongue darting out of their mouth to lick at and soothe the dark bruises they left on your skin. Your moans and whimpers turned to soft whined and sighs as the pain slowly faded into dull numbness. Bloodhound took a couple of steps backwards, looking at their work with a smirk.
"Absolutely gorgeous, kæri. Now, everyone will be able to see your devotion to me." They gave you one last look before grabbing their gear and putting it back on.
You just finished wiping any stray tears from your face before Bloodhound grabbed your hand and led you back into the Paradise Lounge. They escorted you back to your seat at the bar, giving you a pat on the head before walking back to the wall you saw them at before everything happened.
"....Bloody hell." Fuse's mouth was practically hanging open as he stared at the dark purple and red marks that littered your skin. "Didn't take Houndy to be the possessive type." He just laughed and shrugged before going back to his drink. Valkyrie had disappeared sometime during your absence, and all that was left was two empty soju bottles and a $20 bill on the bar.
"Yeah... So where did Valk go?"
Given a choice, Evergreen wouldn’t be Adrian’s top pick for a city to defend. In terms of crime there wasn’t anything bigger than heroin shipments or the odd human trafficking ring, and even those were hard to come by. He had grown up there, of course, but his protection of it was less out of patriotism or loyalty or some desire to protect the people he had grown up with, and more because of the fact that moving was expensive and Chris wanted to stay. Besides, he and Chris were the only vigilantes around, which meant he didn’t have to worry about any turf battles or popularity contests. Of course, there was one occasion where another vigilante had popped up in Evergreen, although he was swiftly killed by a masked man wearing a turquoise and silver suit. Adrian had once considered moving to a bigger, more crime-ridden city like Gotham, but he didn’t really feel like ticking off Batman or having to deal with Harley Quinn.
He liked it in Evergreen, after all. He knew the city like the back of his hand, and with Chris in jail, he was the only guy strong enough to protect it. It was probably selfish, he knew, but it was a big boost to his ego to know that the only thing stopping the city from falling into squalor was him.
Which is why when word of another vigilante in town began to spread, Adrian began to get antsy. He had yet to run into them, which worried him considering he was beginning to spend most of his patrols trying to hunt whoever it was down, and while all the low-lives in town were warning each other of a new player on the streets, Adrian had nothing to substantiate their claims.
At least he did, that is until he was working the closing shift at Fennel Fields one night, and was just heading out to throw away the trash when he heard a scuffle past the dumpsters. Of course, he went to investigate, and to his surprise he saw the vague silhouette of a woman crouching over a body. The shadow turned its head to look at him, and Adrian could vaguely see the whites of a pair of eyes peeking over a mask stare at him for a split second before they swiveled around and bolted off.
Adrian tried to follow them, tossing the trash to the side and racing in the direction the masked culprit had run in, but somehow or another he had lost her in the dark of the night.
Adrian returned to the dumpsters, bending down to look at the body that had been left behind. He recognized it immediately. It was Joe Grioli, a frequent pain in Adrian’s neck due to his repeated harassment and sexual assault of women. Adrian had tried to kill him multiple times, but the slimeball somehow always got away, whether it was by volunteering himself into custody for a minor parole violation or simply weaseling his way out of the traps Adrian tried to set.
Adrian reached for Joe’s wrist, trying to feel for a pulse. There wasn’t one, and when Adrian felt around his neck to double check, his head lolled to the side, bent at an unnatural angle. His neck had been snapped, Adrian realized with a ripple of emotion. He couldn’t tell if it was fear or excitement, but he knew that either way, this newcomer was going to be a bigger deal than he thought.
Adrian went home that night full of questions. The first, of course, being who was this new vigilante? And why were they snapping necks in the middle of the night? Adrian knew that his strict, no exceptions, style was certainly uncommon in the vigilante community — most people preferred to leave criminals with a few nasty bruises or ditch them in front of a police station — so seeing someone else be willing to cross that sacred line that made grown men cry filled Adrian with curiosity.
The second thing Adrian wanted to know was their end goal. Were they trying to get rid of all criminals like he was? Or were they just in town following some lead? Were they even on the same side as Adrian? His mind reeled with questions that he didn’t know the answer to, or where to even begin answering them. The best thing to do, he figured, was to try and find this new vigilante and get some explanations. The only problem was that he didn’t know where to look.
That night, Adrian doubled down on his patrolling. The frustrating part was that he couldn’t get any tips as to where to find this mysterious neck-snapper, and for some reason there was an annoying lack of criminals he could interrogate that night.
He was just about to begin questioning a meth head he had spotted on the corner of a street about whether or not he had seen anything suspicious, when he heard a quiet whisper of air pass by him, flashing a streak of metallic glimmer that embedded itself in the wall just a few centimeters to the right of his ear.
“You missed,” he declared, trying to keep the giddiness out of his voice.
“I didn’t miss,” a voice spoke back. It was a woman’s voice, sultry and smooth, laced with an edge of danger. “That was a warning.”
“A warning for what?” Adrian asked, turning in the direction of the voice. He didn’t see anything, just inky darkness.
“For you to stop looking for me,” she spoke again, her voice coming from a different direction. Adrian whipped around, trying to follow her.
“How did you know I was looking for you?” She didn’t answer. “You know,” Adrian continued, “it’s pretty rude of you to try and kill me and then not even do me the courtesy of answering questions. I mean, I don’t blame you if you’re scared, I’ve killed a lot of people, but they were all criminals, you know? I mean, I assume you do, considering the way you killed Joe earlier.” He began to shuffle around the area, kicking at empty soda cans, “By the way, neck-snapping? Pretty brutal, you gotta admit. But I respect that. You know, why don’t you come out here and we can have an actual conversation? I promise I won’t kill you immediately.”
He looked around again, wondering if she would have stalked out of the shadows by now. He approached the knife that had almost cost him an ear. The blade was a dusty gunmetal gray, with a streak of black surging down the middle on one side. He flipped it over and let out a whistle. “Alea iacta est,” he read, “that Latin? I gotta say, I have no idea what it means. I know I seem like the smartest guy in the world but I actually barely passed Latin in high school. I mean, I don’t even know why I took the class. I liked a lot of fantasy stuff as a kid so I just assumed Latin would be similar to that Game of Thrones language or something, what is it called? Klingon? I don’t even know. Do you want this back by the way?”
“Keep it,” she said, causing Adrian to whip around again, “I’ll get it back soon enough.”
That had been nearly a month ago. In fact, the three week mark of days since Adrian had last seen her was coming up. He knew it was bad that he was keeping track of the time so meticulously, but how could he not? He hadn’t even seen her face and he was hooked. He kept wondering when she would show up, and how. He had kept the knife, of course. Right now it was kept locked in a fake-bottomed bedside table he had made when he first moved into the apartment. He had looked up the words as soon as he had gotten home, and he had been right. It was Latin.
A sharp jab in his side brought Adrian back to the present. “Dude,” one of his coworkers said, “I asked you to refill my table’s water like five minutes ago. What are you doing?”
Adrian blinked, staring blankly at the heavy water pitcher in his hand. “Uh, oh yeah, my bad,” he stuttered, “which table is it?”
His coworker rolled his eyes, jabbing his thumb at the table behind him. Undisturbed, Adrian followed the direction of the gesture over to the booth. There was only one customer there, a woman, who was typing away on her computer; a half-eaten bowl of pasta pomodoro pushed to the side.
“Can I fill that up for you?” he asked, pointing to her empty cup. She turned her head towards him, yet kept her eyes trained on the computer in front of her. She appeared to be writing something, maybe an essay or a report, and when she finished up her sentence she finally looked at him completely.
“What was that?” she asked, and Adrian felt a swell of familiarity rise through him.
“Your water,” he explained, pointing again at her cup, “want me to refill it?”
She paused, staring at him intensely as if she were scrutinizing him. “Sure,” she said finally, turning back to her computer.
She ended up staying at the restaurant up until closing, still nursing her pasta pomodoro and clacking away at her keyboard. He didn’t see her leave, just noticed the empty seat where she had sat, her dishes stacked neatly on top of each other and a decent tip folded up neatly and tucked under the napkin dispenser.
He had spent the rest of his shift sparing not-so-subtle glances at her, trying to see more of her, and figure out what had drawn him to her. He hadn’t been successful though. After their initial interaction, she had adjusted her ponytail, letting the hair fall into her face and block her eyes.
He ended up going home that night filled with confusion. The longer he thought about her, the more familiar she seemed. But familiar from where? He tried answering the questions that kept swirling around his head as he went through his post-work routine: eat dinner, shower, brush his teeth. He couldn’t place it at all. Of course his mind first went to the stranger he had met almost twenty-one days ago, but he wasn’t sure they sounded the same. Granted, his mind had been filled with fog since then; he heard a muddled cacophony of voices each day, but he assumed that when he heard her again it would’ve been like a veil being lifted.
But he didn’t feel that with the girl from his work. She could’ve always been disguising her voice, he figured; after all it was a tactic he had utilized multiple times, and he knew it wasn’t uncommon. But there was something more than that, he felt, something beyond a slight similarity in voices. There was something real there, but he just couldn’t place it.
He fell asleep that night trying to figure out what had been so off-putting about her, but his rest was cut short when he heard a slight rustle outside his window. Adrian had never been a heavy sleeper. It was a trait that had made his mom’s life hell but his vigilante one easier.
He sat up, staring into the darkness. He saw nothing. He heard nothing. Nothing except the rapid beating of his heart and his own shallow breaths. He reached under his pillow, groping around for the knife he kept there. Wrapping his hand around the handle, he leaned over to his bedside table. It was open.
He felt his blood go cold. Dread pooling at the base of his stomach. He wasn’t sure why. Maybe it was thought of her being in his home. Maybe it was the thought of him missing her.
“Nice hiding spot,” he heard from the corner of his bedroom. He threw the knife. He couldn’t tell where it landed. “You know I don’t appreciate you trying to kill me, Adrian,” she said, drawing the syllables of his name out, “especially not after I complimented you so nicely.”
“How did you get in here?” Adrian asked, his voice coming out shakier than normal. He wasn’t used to being attacked in his own home. He wasn’t used to being left weaponless. He wasn’t used to this kind of power imbalance. He wasn’t used to people knowing who he was.
“You know, you should really be more careful driving home from work,” she said, her voice moving around the room. “You never know when someone might,” she paused, “follow you.”
Adrian cursed, “That was you?”
“I’m surprised you didn’t notice. Or that you didn’t recognize me at dinner.”
“How was I supposed to? It’s not like I saw your face.”
“Didn’t I tell you I would be visiting you soon?”
“You told me you would be getting your knife back soon,” he said, his jaw tight.
“And I did, didn't I?”
“What do you want from me?” Adrian asked, searching the dim room for her.
“Oh Adrian,” she said with a chuckle. It felt traitorous. Sweet, yet bitter. Soft, yet hard. Good, yet evil. “I already got what I want from you. Alea iacta est.”
Adrian swallowed, “The die has been cast.”
“I see you’ve done your research,” she said, and Adrian could hear the grin in her voice. “I’ll be seeing you soon enough.”
Warnings : Blood, Violence, Self-harm, etc…
Y’all, have you guys ever heard of that one popular song “Ecstasy”—You know the trending song where the “Sticking out your tongue for the rizzler” parody song came from ☠️☠️ I can’t believe I actually typed that shit out, I’m sorry but hear me out 😭
I went and listened to the lyrics of the original song because it somehow sounds very catchy and !?!? I can only describe it in a way that if I were to make a Masochistic Yandere x Manipulative Darling dynamic—This would be their theme song 🧎‍♀️
The song was the embodiment of a Yandere knowing that their relationship with Darling is toxic and dangerous, but they don’t care because the pain is sexy, it’s arousing. There are over 7 billion people in the world and anyone of them could’ve been chosen as the Darling’s victim, but Darling chose to hurt them. Do you have any idea how much of an honor that is? The desperation just hits hard.
Darling says that out of all the blood that she’s seen of other people, the Yandere’s blood is by far the prettiest—Therefore, it can’t be helped that they couldn’t control themselves whenever they want to see it. Sometimes, the Yandere will do it themselves, slit their wrist and make Darling watch as their pretty red blood drips down their arm. Darling looks so happy seeing them, so the Yandere felt like they just did something really good.
The cuts, wounds, and bruises are accessories that the Yandere intentionally decorates themselves with because those are precious marks created by Darling themselves and it tells everyone that they are owned. It’s a shame whenever they had to cover it with bandages sometimes though. Yandere doesn’t want them to heal, but the limitations of human life is too unfair. They wouldn’t be able to be with Darling if they die after all.
In their eyes, Darling is literally the most perfect person they’ve ever meet, the most prettiest, and the kindest because they’re willing to give Yandere their attention. They love Darling so much that it gets difficult to breathe sometimes, they’re addicted to their touch, especially when their hands would wrap around their necks and squeeze them just before completely passing out. It’s ecstasy.
They literally need no one else, as long as Darling was there to keep them in their arms—As long as they remain the Darling’s most precious sweetheart. They’d kill to keep that title, and will make sure that Darling won’t get bored of them. No one but them is worthy of even being graced with Darling’s presence.
Masochistic Yanderes are somewhat aware of their own delusion, but what makes them so unique is that they absolutely do not care even if you provide them a voice of reason. Darling can manipulate them into thinking that they’re less than human, they can hurt them all they want, they can even break them if they so desired—But they don’t care. This was the love that Darling is showing to him and only him, and that alone makes it very special. They were chosen specifically for this treatment, what else could have been better than that?
But anyway, Masochistic Yanderes are top-tier. I love the desperation ☠️ They can be paired up with either a manipulative, sadistic Darling or a really nice Darling—They both work lol
hello will80sbyers!! first of all, I love all of your posts and theories.. truly the best of the best byler content this hellsite has to offer. anyway, I have a question for you..
what are your thoughts on stancy? after season 4 specifically. I’m rewatching it rn and I just can’t figure out how I feel about them.. I obviously love both nancy and steve dearly, for different reasons, and I want them both to be happy whatever that means. I just don’t understand why their interactions were framed the way they were in s4.. bc I feel like they aren’t meant for each other. steve deserves someone who loves and respects him for exactly who he is and didn’t need him to change, and nancy deserves someone who sees who she has become and loves her for that- not for what she used to be. (also, as a lesbian, I obviously wish for ronance, but knowing that won’t happen, maybe solo nancy is the best)
of course there’s also jonathan but they purposely didn’t give us any jancy interactions so idk what to think there!! plz help me understand.. or at least lmk what you think. thank youuuu :))
Hi! Thank you so much, you're too kind!! 😭
I think Steve and Nancy are not the right people for each other, sometimes life it's just like that, you do like/love someone but that person is not the right one for you in the long run...
in the first seasons Steve had a problem understanding Nancy's grief because he never experienced it himself and just wished to be a normal teen again and leave all the scary supernatural stuff behind, Nancy needed something different because she was experiencing deep grief, she needed someone, even if it was just a friend, like Jonathan that had experienced grief (when he thought Will was dead) and truly understood her...and also someone that wanted to support her in bringing down the labs and somehow have revenge for what they did!
Steve is not wrong for being scared of the government and wanting to be a normal teen, but this made it so that Nancy started to understand that she was not in love with him... she wanted to fight and he didn't at that point, he wanted to keep the status quo and go on with their lives because he didn't thought he could actually make a change in the world!
I think Steve didn't/doesn't feel that much important even if he's always been popular... he feels like he's a fraud somehow because he can't succeed in the things his dad wants him to succeed at (school)
he is amazing and kind and caring and has natural charisma with people but he values intelligence (one of the reasons he is in love with Nancy and he thinks really highly of Dustin and Robin) and he feels like he doesn't have that, he feels like he's not smart enough to be really worth something...
Tumblr media
why would he be surprised that Dustin said that about him? because he thinks Dustin is such a smart kid and he values that a lot... same thing, Robin is so smart, knows many languages etc etc... he feels like the only good thing he can do for them is trying to protect them with his brute force but that's not something he personally values about himself!
I also think that Nancy liked Jonathan from the first season because she felt like she could be completely herself with him but she had to change for Steve and be less of a nerd in s1 (Steve didn't want to make her feel like that but he did)
also Nancy and Jonathan have the same fears of being like their parents and they have the same vision of life and love and that's why they are great together, they based their relationship on a deep understanding of each other... and Nancy just fell in love with Jonathan... it just happened
I think Steve has grown up a lot and deserve all the praise but he still doesn't really understand Nancy, he is idealizing a life with her because she's the one that got away and he is used to have all the girls be into him all his life but she just wasn't that much into him in the end... and he does love her but I think he doesn't get her
and if he has to have a relationship, Steve deserves someone that truly sees his value from the start and makes him feel that he is perfect just how he is already, someone that actually is in love with him....
but, you know, maybe the real thing he needs to understand is that he doesn't really need a relationship at all, he is already valuable without that, and he has so many people that love him and think he is amazing like Robin and Dustin and the rest of the kids too
Tumblr media
I would love to have Ronance on the show but I don't think they will make Jancy break up, I think jancy is either endgame or Jonathan will die and Nancy will stay single... or (more likely) Steve will die to protect Jonathan or Nancy? something like that... 🤔
the return of stancy this season is a red herring or just a way to make it more sad for when they kill Steve in s5...
Which fandoms are you on? Any game ones?
Puhaaa!!! 😆 That’s a surprisingly difficult one.. The list is waaaay too long and changing constantly 😅 Plus, I’m an old woman so I’ve been watching/reading stuff for a looooooong time already… So I tend to forget and usually draw blanks when I’m asked to write lists.. pls send help 🤣🙈
Also.. I hope it doesn’t sound weird, but I actually enjoy a lot of media without truly considering myself an active part of “the fandom” 🤔like.. in a sense that I don’t always necessarily feel the urge to interact and/or create fan content, even though I like something a lot. This is even more a thing in particular when it comes to tickle art!! Let’s just say my decision whether I want to create something is very private and individual in a way 🤔 It has to feel right for me if that makes sense. So this list will contain things I might never consider drawing for 😅
Okeeeeee 🙈🙈🙈 Sorry for the ramble on such a “short and simple” ask!!! I have a talent for making things complicated 🤣 Honestly, I suck at this… 😩🙈 But somehow I felt the need to clarify before I get into it 🙃🙃
EDIT!!! I made a tiny update to the list and added a colour code!!
Green: I usually feel comfortable with creating art for these fandoms.
Orange: I might create art for them but it strongly depends on the scenario and/or characters.
Red: Just no ^^ For personal reasons.
NOW! For the actual list! 🤣👇👇👇👇 (Yaaay)
It’s probably not truly a “fandom” list but more an excerpt of old and new personal favourites of mine 💪
KOTLC Reread: Book 1
obviously spoilers for book 1, a few spoilers for future books below
IM FALLING BACK INTO THE FANDOM
haven’t read the books in over a year but they never get any less good
thats a lie. it was slightly less good than when i first read it, probably because im older now and noticing the little things that i dont like, but its still bringing back all my childhood happiness from reading the series and its still amazing
first of all. i dont know how i didnt notice this until now but prentice and tiergan for sure had something going on
they def had some side fling happening (if its confirmed they didn’t in later books and i just forgot, dont tell me)
like tiergan is so bitter over him being broken?? he hates everyone who played even a small role in prentice’s exile?? come ON this is not a regular bromance-type relationship
i wish the kidnapping scene was more... realistic? idk i really loved how the drug hazes were described and a lot of it was super good but i felt like it was kind of short and the kidnappers really didn’t... do much?
like they kinda just threatened to kill dex and half-heartedly questioned sophie for only like 2 pages
also why would they not just kill dex immediately they have 0 use for him
but anyways
sophie truly is a mary sue but somehow she’s not insufferable?
the obliviousness hasn’t fully set in yet but oh boy will it
the good old days when dexphie was the most popular ship and no one shipped keephie
and when biana was a bitch for half the book
and fitz was actually tolerable
alvar is just a little bit suspicious in this book (just the tiniest touch of foreshadowing)
grady and edaline really named their daughter the french word for “pretty” huh
jensi and marella 😭 i dont remember if jensi plays a larger role in the future but i hope he does
stina is such a cliché “mean girl” lmfao like she really bumped sophie into a locker and called her a loser
some of the abilities are so much more op than others tbh. like imagine other people are literally teleporting whatever they need to them at any time, reading minds, inflicting pain on others, and you’re. elsa.
grady and edaline un-adopting sophie was a dick move. like i guess i get the reasoning but come on.
iggy sounds like a terrible pet im sorry
smells like shit 100% of the time and just causes havoc
the worldbuilding is so 😍
i remember i had a huge crush on keefe when i was reading these when i was younger. he is 12 or 13 in this book so i will not get into that until later lol
this book i mostly remembered but i dont remember a thing from book 2 so that will be interesting
overall it brought back so many childhood memories, i loved it and im so excited to start book 2 and SO EXCITED FOR STELLARLUNE AHHHHHH
also excited for more character development bc we love trauma 🥰
again, please no spoilers for future books (even though ive already read them lol) (but forgot most of it) and no stellarlune spoilers/asks until i post that i’ve read it!
I’m kinda surprised by the dark James discourse. Obviously, everyone is totally valid in their feelings and reactions. Certain versions of deatheater!James have not been my cup of tea in the past but why is a reluctant DE James is the bridge too far for some people when it seems like par for course for the fandom? Fics involving DE ships are consistently the most popular in the HP fandom (Dramione, Drarry, Tom/Harry) and the biggest Marauders’ WIP right now has James cheating on his pregnant girlfriend with a Deatheater. Like yeah it’s all problematic if it was real life but it’s fiction. I would love your perspective if I’m missing something.
Sure! If I wanted to read a death eater love interest as you mentioned, I’d be a fan of those ships. I’m not. I’m not here for that. I’m here for Order members. Par for the course for the Harry Potter fandom is not the same in each niche at all. Personally I have never cared about or run into darkfic until last year, when it entered the community’s discussion spaces and IMO popped into the mainstream — i.e. written by extremely popular authors, read widely, recommended on jilyarchive (IIRC???), and fairly represented in awards nominations. Let me be absolutely clear, I am well aware there is stuff I would hate all over AO3. My discomfort is when becomes impossible for me to ignore.
The reluctant Death Eater as a character cutout personally makes me extremely wary. First, I’m not really interested in stories where a so-called “reluctant” member of a hate group (surely we can agree this is what Voldemort’s followers are?) is shown the light by a marginalised woman. Big “I can fix him” vibes, when in reality the “right woman’s love” does not “turn” anyone. You change if you want to change. Nor am I interested in reading morally anguished lust — never have I ever felt shamefully attracted to someone who (pressured or not!!!!) has thought of me as less-than or hurt people like me. And that is in everyday life, where the stakes are certainly not as high as murder or torture.
Now, specifics: it seems especially twisted to write James this way. I’ve been in this fandom on Tumblr for ten years and I remember the days we used to actively argue with Sn*ly fans (😭😭😭). We spent ridiculous amounts of time on James’s sense of honour, on his aversion to the Dark arts, on those being the reasons — and rightfully so! — Lily fell in love with him. I fail to see how ANY kind of DE James is not Sn*pe. I fail to see how James, who became an Animagus for his best friend, would not fight tooth and nail against an institution that would turn him into a weapon. I fail to see how James, who was a brother to Sirius, would side even nominally with the people Sirius ran away from. I fail to see how James, who made a fucking magical map of Hogwarts, would not find a way to join the resistance. That’s so far from the James I know and love that I am not interested in what boils down to an OC with his name slapped on it. And that’s not even touching on the jarring unreality of his position as the wealthy heir of a well-known, pro-Muggle pure-blood family still somehow…not being protection and privilege enough that he must join in genocide?
Further, even if James is truly dragging his heels in this, I do not see Lily falling for him at all. It does her a disservice and imo insults her sense of dignity. If she could drop her best friend at the age of 16 for calling her a slur, she can resist the charms of someone turning weapons on people like her. I am not interested in these stories, where a young woman is faced with brutal prejudice on all fronts and has to deal with the violence of it even from her love. I find it distasteful to revel in that so-called angst.
Finally — I don’t believe there is any possibility of nuance in a romance-centric fanfiction that explores a story like this. Because we as readers, and certainly the author as a shipper, thinks they’re soulmates! So…if they’re soulmates, he loved her all along, right? If they’re soulmates, he didn’t mean anything by it, right? If they’re soulmates, she has to forgive him, right, because she loves him. There is no way it cannot be romanticised. There is no atonement that feels earned because in the reader’s eyes he doesn’t have to atone for anything, really — he’s loved her all along and surely James and Lily have a love that conquers all!
It reeks of apologia. Not interested in fic like that about my ship that centres personal growth and maturing, and kicking Voldemort’s mouldy ass. In any universe.
I don’t think the implications of this can be restricted to just fiction and I think the stated discomfort of fans based on personal marginalisation proves that. We don’t write in a vacuum. We can’t claim to love the antifascism of canon or express distaste for Sn*pe’s flawed love for Lily and then turn around and act surprised when our own writing — again in the MAINSTREAM, I don’t care about what’s written far from the centre of this fandom and easy to ignore — is hypocritical and hurts people because of it. We can’t extol fanfiction’s powerful themes and talk about what fic has taught us and made us think about and then say “oh it’s just fiction” when it suits us. If it’s moved you so much clearly words have impact.
Again let me underscore this: this hurts people. Drives away fans and creators. You would not believe the specific writers and fans who feel sad and upset and discouraged and again, WANT TO STOP WRITING AND INTERACTING HERE because of this.
That to me is why this is a very clear line in the sand.
ok im acting a fool now this has nothing to do with your au at all (i know, big fail and not what u asked) But when u make writings of any kind, given the state of the fandom, do u ever feel like it’s WORTH posting (u can read that however u wanna)
or does it take a lot of convincing internally to get u to do so
(this ended up delving into some pretty dark topics like incest, rape, and ableism so uh just a forewarning so yall arent . blindsided by that)
i ask for Fun AU Content and i get Pain . Suffering, even. youre unvited to my birthday party 😭
but in all seriousness.... i don't.
its like... i put a lot into my fics. even the oneshots already posted, i put a lot into it. and most people dont really.... care much
a lot of people like to claim that this fandom has no hierarchy of "more popular" and "less popular" but the funny thing is, people that say that the most are the popular people. there is a very clear social ladder here where there are people at the top that can do basically whatever and get fawned over, and then theres Everyone Else and they dont get that kind of acclaim.
which, thats not a Bad Thing to observe. this is common in literally every fandom and pretending like we're somehow "above" that is seriously disingenuous- we're not. popular users like i said can do basically whatever and people still love them. its disheartening when "basically whatever" means "put out work i personally dont think is very good." its downright insulting when "basically whatever" means "get away with being a flat-out cunt 'cause people are too scared of you to call you on it."
so its like... is this what im making content for? assholes, and the people that excuse them? why would i want them to read my stuff? for all i know, one day i'm gonna wake up and have my callout strewn about because, and im gonna be honest with yall here: anarchisma has some seriously fucked up plot points. its a dark au. and some of the plot points arent dark, theyre just odd. there's an incestuous couple and its never really made into a Thing theyre just There. its not a Statement on how Incest Is Bad, theyre literally just vibing and thats their Thing and its not seen as a Bad Character Trait to be Fixed And Amended. their main problem is codependency and shoving themselves into the box of "the weird people" at the detriment of their real personalities. at the end of their (background) arc, they resolve both their issues... but they're still in a relationship with each other. most people in this fandom, even the ones that claim they're Not Antis cause they Like The Bad Ship, would at best think this is fucking weird and at worst try to doxx me over it. on the other side of the coin, there's a character that attends a trial for their own childhood rape. and since the trial includes memory playbacks, the worst thing in this guy's life (so far) is being played on The Big Screen. its... im planning for it to be described in-detail, because its supposed to make you uncomfortable. the victim is the pov character in this instance and the inclusion of the detail is supposed to make you, the reader, feel the same bone-deep revulsion and discomfort that they felt watching their own trauma unfold in front of basically their society's equivalent to God. but yk, its commonly accepted that Rape Scene Bad (and yeah there's a good argument for that, gratuitous scenes like that just for the sake of torture porn arent.... good..... but im not gonna get into that here cause thats a more nuanced topic than i feel comfortable tackling on my Invader Zim Tumblr Blog) but the point is like, will the mere inclusion of that scene lead to people hating me? nobody in this fucking fandom has any Reading Comprehension to maybe think about wether the scene is just gratuitous for thee sake of gratuity or if its like.... actually. serving a purpose. hell, am i gonna get angry people in my inbox now, over a scene that isn't even confirmed to be included?
some characters have confirmed mental illnesses; am i gonna get people in the comments explaining to me how An Autistic Character Would Never Do Something Like That or try and excuse the pretty fucking reprehensible actions of certain people because of their autism? would they come after me for making an autistic character immoral? (fun facts: lefy's autistic! hes also one of the most immoral characters in the whole protagonist lineup.... but also, you get why he did what he did. jerkass woobie, remember.) and on the other side, some characters have confirmed ASPD! am i gonna get idiots in my comment section explaining to me that She Can't Be A Sociopath Because She Loves Her Family And Has A Boyfriend? (note for everyone else: i have ASPD.) if i have to have my own disorder condescendingly explained to me in my comments i am GOING to lose my mind
i know this makes it sound like i have a pretty low opinion of this fandom... and i do! kind of? i know there are a lot of smart, talented people here. i admire the work of so many creators and i love seeing certain people in my notes (if you regularly like my original posts, i know your url by heart and i love you)
but no matter how good the good side is, theres always gonna be a bad side. for every fan of my au there's gonna be some dipshit that saw "rapr," didn't read the rest of the tags, gets shocked that the first story is about miscarriage, and tries to take it out on me for writing it in the first place, rather than realizing it was their dumb ass that didn't read the fucking tags.
i have some OC-centric oneshots. they're going to be a part of anarchisma as chapters in a defect-centered anthology. the anthology serves to introduce certain characters or concepts that were too clunky to introduce anywhere else in the text. i have "the worst job in the empire," which i've showed to a lot of people, and they all liked it. i have the "little green candies" fic, which im pretty sure im infamous for among my friends cause its freaked out everyone i showed it to. i have two other fics i think are really good
sometimes i think about posting them.
and then i remember nobody really cares about ocs unless theres art attached. a lot of art, and only if its past a certain threshold of "quality." if i post that stuff to the wider public and nobody cares i'm gonna be really upset, honestly. itd kill my motivation, and id rather live in a fantasy where my au is popular, than post au content and realize that it probably never will be.
