Cradle may be welcoming him. And his magic power may find some good use on the land, but Levi needs Alice by his side!
How wonderful it would be for him to have a separate arc... Like somebody could have freed him from the land of looking glass, or he himself could have escaped the solitude. It could be Harr who stumbled upon him and brought him out to power his magic crystals, and a struggling, awkward Levi who's a newbie amongst cradle citizens receives all the love and support from Alice💗 That'd be nice.
Else, the alternate path could be Alice herself rescuing him. She went to the civic center on a new moon day, only to find herself threatened by this strange wizard in the mirror, who wants her to be his! she'd run to the black army for help and later talk to Blanc (she's got no romantic entanglements, obviously) and decided the best course of action would be to befriend Levi. (there isn't to Amon drama here, enough of that now please) Levi was clearly a man who needed someone to pull him out of solitude. Alice made every effort to rescue him. (okay, maybe we can add Amon drama after Levi is rescued)
Levi began to stay with the black army and his friend, Alice. He soon made connections, slowly discovered his purpose. He could help Cradle citizens using his immense magical power.
Together with Harr, Alice and help of both the armies, he no longer felt inferior but controlling his emotions was still a challenge especially when his Alice was involved. He told her, he didn't intend to make her his... He only wanted a friend, but now it began to change. Her closeness with the black army guys threatened his magic to go overboard, but of course, every one of them were supportive. He was exasperated, and circumstances drove him to confessing his feelings for Alice! the girl didn't know how to react (Amon entered and played his card. Kidnapped Alice again! He could ask Levi to destroy cradle if he wanted Alice back!) Levi would do that! but the balck army guys put some sense in him. He recalled Alice too wouldn't want the destruction of her home.
So he'd race against time, work with the black and red armies and rescue Alice. Alice meanwhile was no damsel in distress. Roping in Amon's accomplice Dalim, she was ready to overthrow the man, and give the armies a cue about Amon's plans and his secret magic crystal hideout (the ones he stole from Harr). Meanwhile she also realized her love for Levi.
A battle ensued. After victory, what awaited awaited her was a heart felt confession between her and Levi💗
Levi: You, Alice! You are the one who can fill the void in my heart! You are my sunshine and roses! (he delivered the lines but blushed furiously afterwards) I ... that was a line from that dumb romance book I found in your room, nothing more! Oh, but I do love you... (he flashed his dazzling, but smug grin)
P.S. Okay I came up with all of that so this post can be titled Levi Route Summary by Annicaax, I guess

why do so many people keep calling ed izzy's abuser? I thought it was kind of funny how wrong they were at first because I love being right but at this point I feel like, if you really believe that why do you even like this show? where the main love interest is a violently abusive indigenous man? that sounds boring as shit. what would possess the writers of the show for them to make such an awful decision?
but then I think, if this many people believe it does that mean I'm the one who's wrong? or is it that the creators fumbled that storyline when they should have been clearer about it? or maybe it's just that most people on here have had their reading comprehension scorched away by Sherlock Holmes conspiracy theories and Steven Universe discourse. I can't tell. sometimes I think the internet may have been a mistake.
No they're wrong here's what's going on. People all read this shitty fic called Hell or High Water where Ed was everything the Izzy stans say he was and then instead of realizing that Ed is sad everyone regressed into thinking that the Kraken Era TM was going to be incredibly violent, like serial killing blond men because they look like Stede levels of violence. Even if you didn't read HoHW you saw art or read fic from people who had engaged with this fic and succumbed to it's premise. So there's been this background radiation of misunderstanding what the Kraken is on the fandom for several months. So inevitably when Ed did some mild violence and then attempted suicide by threatening murder until the crew took matters into their own hands, which is not abuse or torture by any stretch, btw, it's a murder-suicide at worst (I say at worst because I consider it fuckery-suicide I don't think Ed was trying to kill people I think he was trying to force them into a situation where they thought it was kill or be killed so that they would choose to kill him, but that is my interpretation and you are free to think it's a botched murder-suicide I have no problem with that), which, murder is something the show has never condemned and if it did it would be horribly inconsistent. So anyway, Ed's whole Kraken Era was categorized in the show by him being sad and doing so many drugs and begging someone please god anyone to kill him and trying to break Ned Low's record out of the evil boredom, but because it had a murder-suicide element to it and Izzy's toes were getting removed and he waved a gun around at everyone once (in a way that felt to me like he was trying and failing to work up the nerve to blow his own brains out but I digress) people who liked HoHW and were mad that people had called it out were like "see hes being violent HoHW author vindicated" as if anything Ed did rose to the level of that fic
And you want to know how I know this read is bullshit? Because when I watch the show with people who don't read fic or interact with the fandom and then I gauge their reactions without showing my hand they all implicitly understand that Ed is reacting to Izzy in a way appropriate to how pirate captains react to threats from subordinates. The spectrum of reactions has been from "hey isn't it weird how Ed was the Kraken because his dad was abusive and now he's the kraken because of Izzy? Maybe there's something there but idk" to "I don't think you can apply the logic of domestic abuse to a pirate captain and first mate but also Izzy had it coming" to "I cannot feel bad for Izzy after last season, I'm sorry." To "lmao Izcel" and I've showed this show to roughly everyone I know. The only thing I can conclude from the fact that people who don't engage with OFMD fic almost unilaterally thinking that Izzy is in the wrong and then coming online to see people thinking the opposite is that Izzy as victim and Ed as abuser is pure fanon, like how Stede is a cinnamon roll who talks like Azeriphael.
But anyway yeah you're completely right about the fact that this would be a bad show if they decided to make Ed into a domestic abuser. I don't want to watch a rom com about a domestic abuser falling in love and I don't want a show that decided to make it's indigenous lead abusive when the stereotype of indigenous men as abusers is still to this day used as an excuse to separate indigenous children from their families and put them with white Christians in order to erase their culture. Good thing OFMD didn't make Ed abusive, so I still like the show.

This is a mess of a brain rot
So once upon a time I wrote some ideas of what would happen if we put Nick's characters in a room
Yesterday I was reading a fic from Chinese RWRB fandom where George (Mary & George, Nick) Marco (The Kissing Booth, Taylor), and Tom (The Beneath My Feet, Nick) were side characters and school friends with the daughter oc of the fic
All of them are pre-teens, Tom is an adorable, shy baby, George is the prettiest boy in school and has boys literally falling over their feet for his smile, and Marco is Tom's boyfriend who walks him home and defends him from bullies (as much as a boyfriend as a kid can be)
And I was reminded of a fic series from my other fandom (it's Chinese) where the author basically rounded up the actors' other characters (who kinda had either no chemistry or a shit relationship storyline in their original work), made them housemates, and basically paired them up and created a big cross over rom-com
And I immediately started brainstorming and thinking of an RWRB/ Taylor Nick Universe version of the same concept: Henry as an Eng Lit student and Alex a Law student, Robert (Cinderella, Nick) can be Henry's cousin who's doing a musical theatre degree, Marco, Tom, Johnnie (High Strung, Nick) (and maybe Conor (Handsome Devil, Nick)?) could all be music students, George's whole trajectory maybe can be translating into a sugar daddy situation still with some form of King James, maybe all of Nick's characters are in one apartment complex and all of Taylor's characters neighbouring them etc etc... This whole idea got me so freaking excited
And then a slew of questions flooded my mind: How do I want to do this? Comic? Ask blog? Fic? Bullet point posts? Am I gonna commit to this? Is there even an audience for this? How much bullshit can I come up with?
Also, what the fuck am I gonna do with the characters? I only really know Henry, Alex, Conor, Marco, and maybe Robert, and maybe Timmy. I don't really have the time or the interest to watch all of the boys' filmography (sorry I love the boys with all my heart but I'm a really plot-driven viewer when it comes to shows/movies), what am I gonna do with that? What am I gonna do with shipping? I say this with all the love for Taylor but Nick does have a larger filmography thus more characters than he does, and even just with Marco I have no idea who to pair him up with because there are so many possible good ship dynamics but I prefer just sticking to one ship? What the fuck?
Yeah I don't fucking know if there's a point I'm trying to make or a conclusion I'm trying to reach but here ya go Welcome to the mess that is my mind

Legendborn
Tumblr media
Um??????????
I put this book off for so long because a) I heard the next book in the series only comes out in 2025 and I didn't want to be left hanging, and b) I wasn't the biggest fan when I heard there was a (sigh) love triangle in there. And yet here I am, having finished it at long last.
Confession: I was/am in the middle of something like a reading slump. February has not been kind to me with my reads. When the Ann Liang book I was anticipating for months let me down horrifically, ALL the books that followed either fell flat too or were just… middling. I went through book after book feeling empty, and then I told myself: you know what. Legendborn has been on EVERYONE and their mother's radar, and their responses are the same—near unanimous acclaim. It's honestly quite insane.
So I took a gamble. I got the book and started reading it.
You can TELL. You can just TELL when a book hits right for you, unlike the ones I read before it. I was hooked. Engaged. Totally captivated. I'd read and DNFed another fantasy book just weeks ago, which also utilised King Arthur lore (titled Silver in the Bone), but somehow Legendborn succeeded where that story failed (for me). Maybe I'm just a basic bitch who's a sucker for the typical storyline of a normal girl finding herself entangled with a group of monster slayers and doing tournaments to become one of them. (Is this why… I was instantly enthralled with the Infernal Devices??? Or why I love Demon Slayer—the anime—so much????? I am finding out new things about myself.)
But sure… the beginning isn't anything too different from traditional YA structures. But as you get going, and you continue down the road, you start to see new grounds being tread, and it deviates from anything I've personally read as a teen.
As usual, even though I loved this book, I'm going to do what I almost always do and explore the dichotomy of what I liked and didn't.
Spoilers abound.
Didn't like:
It was predictable… up to a point (and then I was GOBSMACKED but we'll get to that later). Like, I knew pretty quickly which characters were going to make it to Squires and which weren't. You could just tell from how the author treated certain Pages (the folks trying to be Squires) in a more favourable light. The nice ones win, the not-nice ones don't. I'd have liked more nuance in their characterisation, TBH.
Speaking of which, however, Bree's characterisation at the start was rough. Like, she'd do stupid shit and get in trouble and continue being irresponsible. I wasn't surprised Alice was mad at her, and I don't think that the trouble she faced stemmed solely from her race but rather her irresponsible behaviour (going off-campus when she already knows that's grounds for expulsion and she STILL gets mad when the dean, who decides to let her off, is churlish with her. Seriously?). That said, I am NOT Black, and I can't speak for the quotidian prejudices they face, so take my perception of it with a grain of salt. In any case, Bree changed and this was no longer an issue for me later on.
Nick. And his whole romance with Bree. Like, I really did NOT care. And Nick was pretty much a white boy-damsel in distress the entire story. Every time screen time was devoted to their romance, my eyes would glaze over and I'd start skimming all the kissing and stuff.
There were a lot of characters. Like, a lot. Too many. My brain was scrambling trying to remember and place everyone in their different roles. And aside from a few (bless William), they didn't have very distinct voices. Greer had, like, ZERO distinctive voice other than being non-binary, which should not be the only thing to define a character. Whitty was… nice, is all? Everyone kinda just melded in my brain, which is probably why none of the character deaths really hit me.
I'm not a huge fan of Chosen One tropes. But this does play on the trope in a VERY interesting way.
WHAT I LIKED (!!!!!!!!!!!):
The whole concept of Root and Bloodcraft. I LOVED how the author used magic to convey the colonisation of white men. The idea that Legendborns forcefully TAKE their power, while non-Bloodcraft users only borrow their power, speaks volumes to me. It was such a good way to portray real life.
Also??? The ending twist about Bree????? All along, I was convinced she was secretly the Scion of Lancelot, but I wasn't sure HOW, because all the knights are obviously white. And then the author pulls a fast one on me and she's actually fucking Arthur. The reasoning is so good. I loved how the White Man's own cruelty and their disgusting ownership of Black people led them to this predicament. I think THIS was the part that truly sold me on how terrific and unique this book was.
Characters-wise… William. Like, I adore the fuck out of him. In another world, in an even less conventional book, William would have been the hero for me. He's exactly my type with how calm and confident he was without needing to be overbearing about it. In fact, he was so gentle. (Makes me think of Jem Carstairs, but obviously Jem is THE published blueprint for types like this.)
Sel. Yes, I know I just talked about how I didn't like overbearing characters, and I initially went into this book expecting to hate him, but… :) I thought he was quite justified in his hatred / distrust towards Bree at first, knowing what he knew about how the mesmer and Oaths didn't take. I'll see if my opinion of him changes in the sequel.
I  really, really liked how for once, King Arthur wasn't depicted as just some hero. He actually seemed almost villainous in this book, especially in the moments when Bree was possessed by him. What happened to her supposedly getting wisdom when she Awakened, though? This man does not sound wise at all. I am intrigued.
I am so glad I read this book. SO GLAD. I was down in the dumps for a bit and finally reading a good fantasy made me feel a thousand times better. I'm a bit nervous reading the sequel because some things often don't live up to their predecessor, so I shall see.

Hi! I recently started making a TMNT iteration and I wanted to pick your brain rq for questions you ask / wish you were asked that help with fleshing out characters, storylines, and the lives behind a characters that really make them come to life? Cause I'm struggling with a lot of bits here💀
Akfkgkxcjdkckz. Oh my god. Uh. Well. Ok.
First of all: just a quick note that I am in no way shape or form an authority on the matter of tmnt iterations and my ways of characterisation might as well be considered wrong by any other person.
So!
I definitely did not think about this response all night ever since receiving the ask, nono. I thought about it a normal amount.
Why?
That I guess is a very broad question, but I think it is really the first and the most important one you want to ask yourself about anything: a situation, a character, a storyline... I'll take my fic Full Lair as an example to make it easier and kind of apply what I'm saying to what I actually did.
So, three months ago, after reading about F!Leo for a while, I decided to make a Peepaw Fic. Why? Because the concept of a hurt adult version of a character coming back to see their carefree self and battling their hate for them felt fascinating. Why? *insert personal reasons here*
That is the "idea" of the fic.
I also wanted to put some romance in there. Why? Because I felt a little tired of reading about sixteen year olds falling in love and getting their happy ever after so soon, so I wanted to write about two middle aged men with their own baggage learning to trust and love all over again. Why? *insert personal reasons here*
That is the secondary "idea" or the reason for the plot itself.
There personal reasons don't have to be present, but I think every once in a while you should circle back to the whatever reasons you had for starting your fic in order to really understand what are you're trying to say or why are you making the fic in the first place, in case you are feeling stuck/don't know what to do next.
"Why" can also flash out a lot of characters and their backgrounds even before they are revealed, because while you, the author, know why a character does something, the readers will probably pick up on that and start getting the clues to whatever it is that you are setting up. And this really is a very fun question to be asked about your work because then you can go full info dumping mode and who doesn't love that?
Where are the background characters?
Personally, I regret not asking this question before starting Full Lair because I lost a lot of opportunities due to genuinely forgetting about certain parts/characters from the actual canon and bringing them back now would be a little awkward, so I prefer to simply reference them as not to erase their existence completely.
So, think about the background characters beforehand.
Doesn't matter what's your base: 2003, rise, 1987, or whatever and whoever you write about, it really helps to know where you're characters are at. You don't have to think all to hard or write about all of them, of course, but in case there is an opportunity for a little reference or a reader asks you something along the lines of "hey where's this dude" you have a quick and in-universe response to this.
So what about the jokes?
Now if you're not sure in your own sense of humour a trusted person who's opinion on it and the characters you are writing about seems to fit your fic would be a great help.
Yes, even if it's just for them to boost your confidence a little.
The jokes are a small part, but if you're writing about the turtle brothers, sometimes you gotta sprinkle in some bickering and teasing so it's better to have a Humour Tester by your side. And in general, jokes and their placement can really help to describe and understand a character (hence Leo from Rise) and their attitude towards the world and the people around them.
I have no idea if that was of any help at all, because I kinda went for the very few vague questions that I could think about at the moment, but you're always welcomed to ask for more specific ones!

So. Unpopular opinion, but Dokidoki is one of my absolute favorite Precure seasons. That said, it is definitely flawed and I often think of things that should’ve been done differently (like having Regina get to bond a bit more with the rest of the team besides Mana before getting brainwashed again, and having more focus on dynamics between team members not involving Mana).
Aguri for a long time has been kinda my biggest sticking point. I don’t wholly dislike her, but there’s a lot with her that to me feels weird and not well handled in a way that bogs down a sizeable chunk of the season and she’s noticeably less enjoyable for me to watch than like, every other character in Dokidoki. At the same time, the twist of her being the selfless half of Princess Anne while Regina was the selfish half was REALLY good, and there are other things about her that are interesting. For a long time I’ve struggled to think of how those could’ve been done without everything else that wasn’t that good, and I do mean STRUGGLED, it felt like my brain was breaking every time I sat down and thought about this.
But I THINK I may have finally cracked it.
What if instead of Aguri existing as a character, Ai was Princess Anne's selfless half instead of her body or whatever? And she grew up to Aguri's age or the rest of the team's age over the course of the first half or so of the season? And a bunch of Aguri's role or something like it went to her?
The whole origin story exposition did imply that when Regina first came about she got from babyhood to the age we see her at abnormally fast, which is supported by her not having any memories of time she and her dad spent together. And we do see something similar happen with Aguri.
So what if over the course of the first half of the season, that happened with Ai, and a bunch of Aguri's role could go to her? Maybe not trying to "mentor" the whole team in quite the way Aguri does, but she can be trying to give advice where she can, and she can be wanting the team to be as strong as they can be, and she can be trying to help the cause in any way possible, and she can be approaching it with the same kind of seriousness and dedication of her entire self to it (including to the point of pushing too hard at times), and she can maybe inexplicably have info on some things like the Lovely Pad as Aguri did. She doesn't have to be a cure, but she could develop some magic abilities that can be used in combat (possibly that she does help out the cures in battle with at times), so that she can still go try to fight Regina on her own thinking it's their destiny since they're the two opposite halves of the princess and all.
‘Cause possibly the biggest issue with Aguri is how she seemingly kinda butted into this whole thing and took over a huge portion of it kinda out of nowhere, right? This random girl who hasn't been a part of the first half of the season at all just appears (right in the middle of Regina’s storyline too) and becomes a full-on member of the team and is inexplicably super OP and immediately takes on a level of authority that she shouldn’t have, and most of all, up until the finale we don’t even know why. We’re told and shown that she just has this singleminded determination to save the Card Kingdom more than anycreature, but there’s no plausible discernible reason for that from this random girl who just showed up out of nowhere mid-series. It doesn’t make sense, and up until that reveal in the finale it’s just kind of confusing and frustrating how this random girl just knows so much and cares so much and has such a level of importance in this for no discernible reason and that’s just kind of accepted without any questioning.
Well, Ai's been there since the beginning. She’s a magical being who comes from the Card Kingdom like the fairies and Joe. It makes sense for her to want to save the Card Kingdom more than anything. If she gradually over time gets to be part of things more and comes to have more of a major role in things, without having it be in quite the same space as the cures and without outranking them there in any way, and otherwise manages to cover the same important bases as Aguri character-wise and plot-wise, that works, doesn’t it?

How Do I Plan Tag
So, appropriate to the conflicting sides of my personality, my planning style has two drastically different approaches... so let's get started! (I'm wordy, I apologize in advance.)
Thank you @my-cursed-prince for tagging me in this and for everyone who's ready to bear with me as I try to explain the war that takes place in my mind.
How do you plot your writing out?
Step 1- Inspiration
This almost always happens at the worst possible times, either while I'm at work, in class, doing homework, etc. Most of the time it's because I see or hear something that sends a lightning bolt of an idea straight into my mind, and I don't know how my brain jumped through the hoops to get what I got out of what I was given. When this happens, it's almost always frustrating in the moment, since I get the overwhelming urge to start immediately when I often can't. I either make a mental note of the idea, or I write a physical note to remind myself to revisit it.
Purposeful/directed inspiration can also come through listening to music, watching movies/TV shows, reading, and looking at art, but this is honestly less common unless I'm writing while doing these things simultaneously (which I do quite a bit.)
Step 2- Filtering
This can happen in one of two ways. The first is whether I decide to call my brother (my unofficial editor) to see if my idea even remotely makes sense to anyone that isn't me. Then we either scrap, alter, or build on the ideas over the next half hour or so. Most of the time he just tells me that it's my story so I know what will work best with what I'm planning, but I also know that some things can seem obvious to me as the author that will go unintentionally under the radar to a reader, so he's a great help in my process when I bring him in.
The other way can be best described as a mental file cabinet, where I keep all of my plans for current and future projects. Truly, I think this is the more common way I do it, otherwise, I would be calling my poor brother almost constantly. When I'm doing this, I'm basically skimming through each of the files, seeing if this new idea works anywhere, and which characters would be best for this plotline, or vice versa. If it doesn't fit anywhere but has potential, I make another file and save it for later. If it contradicts what I've built, it gets dismissed. If it does fit, I then go to the next step...
Step 3- Development
This is where I spend most of my time. If it's a character, this is background, personality, role, etc. If it's worldbuilding, I'm here for days to weeks until it's blended into everything I had developed previously, as if it was always there. If it's a plot line or event, I locate where it is in the master timeline and create a rough sketch of what I want to happen around the initial idea. Any research takes place here as well. It's pretty straightforward.
Step 4- Bullet Point Storylining
This creates a visual for me to go off of; a road map per se. It's flexible and very open to possibilities, yet holds me to the structure that I put in place during development. This way, nothing crazy happens, but I can still surprise myself in...
Step 5- Drafting
Where chaos unfolds. Anything can happen- as long as I try to follow the map I set up with my bullet points. Then I repeat the drafting of that part until my perfectionism is satisfied enough to where I don't feel like I need to burn the pages that only exist on my computer. So this period can also take quite a bit of time, as I refine and shape draft after draft. Editing is included in this step, as editing is simply rewriting, but way better.
In short, the process is: Plan, check the plan, plan some more, draw out the plan, then set the plan on (barely controlled) fire.
2. What's your favorite part of the writing process?
I really enjoy the actual writing part the most. It's incredibly freeing to get everything out on paper, and that feeling doesn't change when I'm even just rewriting.
Seeing how everything ties together even better than they do in the filing cabinets and scattered notes. I love to see my characters interact in a way that is better than I could ever simply explain that they would. I love when they come to life and react in a way that I didn't initially see from them but makes so much sense. I like painting my world with words so that others can fall in love with it as much as I have through the hundreds of hours I've poured into it.
In some ways, my writing process is a mystery to me in how my worldbuilding has gotten so expansive that I'm building a Google Site and a guidebook for myself. I don't know when my characters started acting without my explicit permission, and I don't know where the inspiration for my specific plotlines came from. Some have been there so long that they've just become a fundamental fact of the story and the world.
I love how it's gotten a life of its own through the chaos that has burned through the first four steps of my writing process in the last, but most important one. To me, my characters have been real people for years. Is that weird? Maybe, but it's also incredibly special, and I wouldn't change that for anything. They've grown with me, and so has my fictional world. As I grow to see the complexities of the world around me, and as I experience life, it reflects in my work for both the good and the bad.
I wouldn't have my writing process any other way. (Even if it creates an inner debate on how much chaos is too much chaos.)
Feel free to participate: @the-printed-words, @verba-writing, @marigoldispeculiar, and @queerlilchinchin & anyone else who may be interested!

*bumps into you on the streets and slides an envelope in your jacket pocket* ✍️✨️💭📚 for you, my dear!
Oh there's a letter in my pocket! How sweet! *letter blows away in the wind* Oh no! my letter! *sighs and smiles* damn.. I wonder what adventures that letter is gonna find itself on
ignore how goofy and cringy that was,, it was on purpose ❤️
✍️ What’s your ideal writing setup?
I can write about anywhere, but I do need music. If I don't have music, especially the songs that my inspiration and motivation comes from, I might lose my steam and get distracted by other stuff. Silence is my enemy.
(I hope that was the right "setup" and not like.. what program you use lmao)
✨️ Out of the comments you’ve received on your fics, what are two or three of your favorites?
Besides allof my friends comments obviously, I love you guys ✨️ Escapism always has the best comments they're either super sweet or hilarious. They got the best vibes fr
some of my favorites are (and i'm just writing them bc i don't wanna add a bunch of screenshots):
"you get everyone's characters down to a T which is honestly hard to find in fanfic. i adore this!"
"damn i did not think about Gar/Jon ship but you are onto something great here"
"you can only stare into each other's eyes, red in the face, so many times before you have to face the facts" < -- context: the end of chapter 7
"Thank you so much for sharing [this fic]; it's such an unparalleled blend of fluff and humor and angst"
"The cheek kiss and then Jordan immediately bullying Jon has me dying. This fic is the highlight of my week easily."
and the one time someone said they usually hate slowburns but Escapism does it so well they actually love it
also this isn't a comment, it's on a bookmark I got today but it made me giggle and kick my feet
Tumblr media
It's my job to write Gar, random ao3 user 💚
💭 What inspires you and your writing?
Wow, umm.. A LOT. Other than the "of course" answer of tv shows, I get most of my fic + scene ideas/inspo from music. Lets say I have a scene idea and it's angsty, then I'm gonna listen to songs with lyrics and sound that fit the vibe i'm going for. While listening to the song(s) on repeat, I let my brain pictures do the rest of work, and if it creates something I like and know I can twist around be bit to fit my storyline as a whole, I choose that
but on the non-music flipside, me and my friend have tossed around ideas before just in texting and a lot of little things in Escapism came from those jokes/chats
📚 Is there a fanfic or fanfic writer you recommend?
okay listen.. I was gonna send you this one but thought "that seems like I'm fishing for a compliment" so I decided against it lmao
anywayyyy.. your fics OF COURSE are amazing,, "Acrida" is my favorite but I already told you that hehe I really liked "When I'm Dead And Gone, Will They Sing About Me?" too
and while I'm praising fic authors my bestie in crime, the Jon to my El, @mombosslois and her fic "A Love Without End". It's everything s&l season 2 wishes it could have been. It's just UGH SO GOOD YA KNOW??? I don't wanna spoil it just in case but it makes me feel like

but in the most positive way ever
now a fic that made me wanna throw up and cry at the same time was "So- Your Child Got Addicted to X-K" by underwaterrock. I've never had a fic make me need to step away from my screen and catch my breath before, it was crazy, but I still love it. It's in the top 5 of my favorite s&l fics. "collateral damage" by Zannolin was great too,, I love me some missing scene/episode fics and it's about Jon so instant gold star sticker

🍄 ⇢ share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings
🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
❄️ ⇢ what's your dream theme/plot for a fic, and who would write it best?
🍄 ⇢ share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings
Lets go with Kashra, because that's been eating my brain lately.
My go-to headcanon for Kashra is that when she falls asleep, Zahra loops her tail around Kash's arm or leg or waist - it's a habit from when she was quite young, first wrapping her tail around herself as a self-soothing method, and later using it to hold tight to things that mattered to her (her bag, her staff). It always makes Kash go all Squishle because it means that he matters to her.
🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
Hm, there's a few but I can't recall all of them. A random selection:
The time I was researching the pH of salt water to try to see if would slowly wear away at limestone like acid rain can.
History of horse domestication and use in Iron Age Europe.
Animals which can change sex due to social or hormonal factors for when I wanted to figure out ingredients for a Trans Ur Gender Potion for a fic.
Why some woods burl.
Human evolution and the mix of non-sapiens DNA found in modern humans so I could headcanon Berserkers.
NOT fic, but for my dissertation I found a completely whacked out guy from the Victorian Era who thought that Europe's megalithic sites were built by Appalachian Native Americans and that the zodiac matched to the Greco-Roman gods and also Atlantis was involved somewhere. That one really threw me, if I'm honest.
There are probably more, and this does not include the things I researched when helping you with fic things.
❄️ ⇢ what's your dream theme/plot for a fic, and who would write it best?
I.... don't know. Because a lot of the plots I really want to see I've kind of resolved to rolling up my sleeves and doing it myself? At least within fandom spaces. And when it comes to original fiction, it's more that I'd like to see more gothic horror-romance stuff, and more stuff that's willing to meaningfully dig into trauma within the bounds of an overarching storyline, and I'm kind of still discovering the authors I specifically like for those things? There's authors I know are good at it - Martha Wells, for example - but who's writing style I don't always gel 100% with, while, like, I gel with S.T. Gibson's writing style better, but in how they nail the gothic writing style occasionally it feels a smidge to urple for me to take quite seriously because I'm picky.
So... I don't know what my dream theme/plot for a fic is, really, but I do know that unless it ended up being spyfic, I'd probably do it myself.
If it was spyfic, of course, I'd want you to do it, Mike.

nct dream as partners to an age regressor cg!nct dream x f!reader
dni: if you sexualize age regression and/or have an 18+ blog.
genres agere content, fluff warnings feminine nicknames dni if you sexualize age regression author's note hihi ! first time blogging, kinda nervous ... i've had this idea in my little marble head for quite some time and now here i am posting it !
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
mark lee (ᓀ‸ᓂ)
ur gonna be the death of him. poor boy is stressed 25/8
he's doing his best but he still doesn't quite understand at times
a quality time lover ! sometimes he gets so immersed in his own thing he doesn't notice you switch tasks until it's too late,,,,
"oh no! oh dude... i'm so sorry man, c'mere. no, don't apologize. it's my fault. it's ok. you can cry all you want. let's just get a bandaid on that gnarly cut, okay?"
when he's sorry, he means it ! after the pb&j knife switcheroo incident, he made sure to set alarms to make your meals just in case you've regressed that day and can't (safely) make your own food
a very good listener ! he loves listening to u talk for hours and hours and hours and hours and
listens intently to the explanation of your shows, the names of your plushies, and the storylines currently on going as you play pretend
loves playing pretend. at first, he was a bit shy, breaking character and laughing into his hands when embarrassment got the best of him, but now bro is confident! u could place him in a broadway show and no one would think he's out of place
could be said he was actually the one who made the first move to play pretend.
"...whatcha doing?" "playing" "...what are you playing?" after being burned under your x-ray vision gaze for no less than 5 seconds, you hand him a plushie and 'insist' on him playing with you
not one for titles or nicknames. mark is mark, you are you!
punishments are the last of his worries. hopefully, you don't make it rise the ranks
huang renjun ૮ ˙Ⱉ˙ ა
manners freak
"ah!" he always has to hold whatever you asked for out of your reach. "what do we say? it starts with a t and ends with a 'you'."
does all sorts of crafts with you
one time, he drew your favorite character and you loved it so much you made him put it on your wall then and there. he was undermining it and complaining that he didn't want to get up and do all the work that involves framing it but the smile and blush on his face told a different story
lets you put stickers on him! only the pretty ones that he's approved beforehand. and NOT on his hair. he's chinese, not korean. he doesn't need the military service buzzcut
like mark, not big on titles. they make him uncomfortable tbh. nicknames for you, however, he does quite like (tiny, munchkin, etc.).
happy to let you be independent while regressed under STRICT supervision
goes so far as to make little songs and jingles to you can sing along to as you perform certain tasks so you both know you're doing things safely and correctly even when out of his eyesight
ur complete coloring pages go right next to his pieces of art on the fridge. u are both artists !
lullabies are a must. the man is a singer for a living ! good night! z Z z ....
punishments usually consist of renjun nagging on for over an hour. you don't really tend to listen. it's mostly for him to let out his frustration before the big stepper comes for you.
"and NO ice cream this weekend!" "NO!"
lee jeno ૮ .◜◡◝ა
first one to actually not mind titles ! he can live without them but they scratch an itch in his brain like nothing else can
two words: cute aggression. leans in to kiss your cheek only to bite it. he bites your nose. he bites your EARS ?! someone lock this man up !
hugs you in a way that presses the cheeks of the two of you until you look like twins conjoined at the head
the cuddliest man ever like i've never seen a more teddy bear-coded individual?!?!?!
"gotta pee." "hold it." "i can't!" grumbling jeno noises
started going back to the gym after seeing how much he you like being carried
he doesn't really talk a lot when in cg mode, but you've known him long enough that you can read his body language just fine
might actually be in cg space more than you are regressed !
just anything that you do, big or little. it's so precious to him. he feels the urge to just protect you from everything!!!
no !!! u can't go outside !!! what if bugs bite u?!!! oh u brought bug spray? ok... send him a message of when u get on the bus! and when u get off the bus! and to ur friend's house! actually, just let him drive u ok? give him five minutes to change !
the worst at dishing out punishments out of all of dream. a pout, a teary eye, a sniffle, he's unraveling at the seams.
he sits on a chair by the bed, arms crossed with a stern look. you could shatter it with a bat of your lashes, but you know you need this.
"i'll be sitting here until you fall asleep. we could've played chutes and ladders tonight like you wanted if you hadn't thrown away your veggies, angel."
lee donghyuck ʕ˙Ⱉ˙‧:ʔ
he is the baby. wdym you are ?
poor boy is used to being the youngest and acting cute, what is he supposed to do now that the tables are turned?
at the beginning, it's lots of awkward head pats and hugs of comfort.
sits you on his lap while he's gaming, playing with you and your toys in between matches
kind of insecure to be ur cg :( give the boy praise and appreciation!
"you," he sighs, looking away from you. "you should really be in bed by now. it's past your bedtime." "but you're not asleep." another sigh. "i know..."
when his confidence and comfortability is up tho? big big BIG on the baby talk and praise to the point you have to remind him you guys are in public!!! it started out as a joke (yk how he is, being annoying on purpose with his main weapon being aegyo). he doesn't think it's a joke anymore guys,,,,,,,,,,,,,
titles are goofy to haechan. he calls you the same he always does.
"what about me? did i do a good job today?" he asks, striking a ridiculous pose. "yeah ! you're the best, chan ! :D" "... :( thank u baby :,("
punishments don't exist actually! he's right there next to you. silly string all over the room? it was his idea to play spiders. veggies thrown away? impossible. he never bought them to begin with. didn't do your assignment? was it that important to begin with? hyuck doesn't think so
might be a regressor too ! on the older side, perhaps (pre-teen - teenage)
na jaemin ଘ(੭ˊᵕˋ)੭
terrible for big space. just the absolute worst
baby talk and aegyo is not an action for him, it's a lifestyle. makes you do one or the other (or both if he's feeling particularly sadistic i mean playful) if you want something or as a punishment on the lighter side
probably made you slip multiple times before you even told him you regress
all the cheesy, cringy, cliche stuff? he does that. shamelessly too
loves titles and uses them on himself even if you don't. doesn't make you call him anything, but he loves how it 'rolls off the tongue so well!'
he's an addict to nicknames for you. finds them randomly
"oh man, look at that rabbit! it's so cute!" "just like y/n" "what" just randomly takes out his phone in the middle of walking to text you nana: hi bunny you: ? you: hi?
acts of service are his natural calling. you might as well be quadriplegic.
makes your favorite drink for you! ur too little to do it urself !!! let him do it for u (pls pls pls pls pls he's on his knees)
also makes lunches for you that are all pretty and shaped like some sort of animal when ur feeling small ! he stopped doing cats though since one time you felt like you were eating luna and cried.
you two literally fight to death about who loves who the most. jaemin has to be tied to a chair in the basement of an abandoned building to let you do literally anything for him
punishments are extremely rare. virtually non-existent. he prefers to talk things through and give rewards rather than take away
health is important! it's so so important to him he set up a meal plan where you eat the rainbow three times a day.
makes you exercise with him.........
"i'll be home in about half an hour, jellybean. do you think you could finish a bottle of water by then? i know you can. i'll see you soon, okay?"
zhong chenle (ᯟ︿ᯏ)
you know those people that talk to babies like they're grown people that pay taxes and drink alcohol? that's chenle
he knows you've regressed and you're not in the mindset of an adult anymore, but he isn't a big baby talk person like jaemin is
the nicknames he uses for you are very classic so he can use them both in public and in private (doll, dollface, princess, etc.)
surprisingly into his role as cg? like, he has a chart set up for you and everything. if he's abroad/not around, he'll call you so you can place the gold stars yourself in his behalf
another manners enthusiast
uses titles for himself and expects you to use them too
"'can i have dessert please, what?', princess? what word is missing from that sentence?"
doesn't say much but always keeps an eye or hand on you in public.
bro is nonchalant (for the most part. just don't read his locked notes)
"a gift? i didn't buy you anything" LIAR. "what pink box? have you opened it? bring it over here. let me see"
he's very patient, just stern since he has strict boundaries and rules. constantly encouraging you to have firm boundaries as well.
"is this ok?" "do you not like this?" "how do you feel about that?"
go-to punishment is writing lines. always gives you a yogurt or some other snack when you finish. mostly does it for himself, he doesn't like staying on the subject of punishment/bad behavior. there's better things to do in his opinion
his favorite activity to do with you when small is your text message conversations. no words, no talking, just a photo message from you (!!!! look what i'm doing !!!!) and a photo from him in response (!!!! good job i'm so proud of you !!!! here's what i'm doing !!!!)
park jisung (∩˃o˂∩)
a lot like mark, not a fans of titles or nicknames
more of a listener. has lots of questions but doesn't want to interrupt the groove with which you're explaining the lore of equestria so he just nods his head in hopes that he'll understand with time and context
the one who would adjust the fastest to learning about your age regression out of all the dreamies. give him five minutes and he'll be like "...ok. wanna watch tv now?"
jisung is so !!! silly !!!
a goofy boy. he loves making exaggerated reactions and expressions to make you laugh
"gah-!" you've hit him with an invisible arrow! jisung holds his chest, stumbling back to slowly fall down onto the floor. very very slowly. "you've shot me... i can feel my life force leaving me... why... would you do this...? bleh."
kind of has a sixth sense for you. if something triggers you and makes you slip in public, he's like a cat that heard something no one else can.
pulsing your hand in his to get your attention only for you to avoid eye contact is a dead giveaway. he might not always be able to leave the event, but he makes sure to give you a break of just you two. breathing exercises, grounding techniques, he also lets you play with the plush toy keychain he bought for occasions just like these.
the first time you shutdown verbally when small, jisung panics! he's running around looking up on the internet how to 'talk without talking'. now he's a baby sign language expert. good job, you! /gen

Question 39. What comic plotline gives you brain worms? for the comics ask thing
Too many.
Shatterstar's origin story gives me worms of the my-brain-is-breaking-down-while-reading this variety. Mojoverse is something that I can't think of too often because if I go down that rabbit hole then I'll be thinking about how underused the setting is, a meta media satire planet going totally ignored in a day and age where franchise superhero media is the dominant cultural output (except for Leah Williams X-Factor in a really tasteless way) for the rest of the week.
Dani’s off-screen Asgard adventures, there’s plenty to dig into about joining the pantheon of a religion and a culture that isn’t yours. What did she do to get kicked out? How did it feel to reap souls for a few months as a teenager? How does that affect her connection to Illyana, always ambiguous and sometimes charged? The hellgirl and the taker of the dead? Also the idea that Dani is Cyclops’ chosen successor, she is and should be and it never ever gets picked up by anyone ever. Please. She’s the pragmatic tactician who can still follow Xavier’s dream.
Doug's storyline drives me both mad insane and mad angry because of how juicy it gets with his post-resurrection morality crisis and how Hickman stopped any and all of his development in its tracks. It's fun to have a resurrection gone wrong, where Doug-after is missing something and has to try and get it back. It's intriguing how lopsided his relationship with Warlock is; Doug both can't live without him and is eager to be rid of him, they're bffs and Doug resents him for causing his bad-future self, Doug can never truly be satisfied with his own existence once he's tasted technarchy, meaning that he'll never be truly satisfied as himself.
X-Men homoeroticism is its own category. Richly-sown fields of 'I'm sorry, what?' that make up a significant part of a character's plotline and are never ever addressed. 'Moira loves you and I....'. Sam saying he'd rather die with 'Berto if he has the choice. Kitty Pryde hanging out with Illyana the day she leaves her brother at the altar and then smooching a woman who looks exactly like her later on and having it never acknowledged again. Storm having Yukio be in the parade of love interests in her solo book but never being canonically in a relationship. 'I love you and you are breaking my heart.' No one does it like them.
That said--on to the main brainworms: Rictor's off-screen fight against his family. The guy wages a one-man war (well, two-man) on a gun-smuggling operation a) armed only with swords, b) against people who raised him. His cousins are as good as siblings to him, how on earth did he reckon with staring them in the face? How did he even manage to corral everyone with the mandatory X-Men non-fatal approach? How were his ideals tested, how close did he come to giving up, what did he think about in the long hours of the night? Apparently it's not for us to know!
Bonus mention for The Authority v4 balloon arc. The concept is great, the execution so-so, which is the perfect blend for remembering something forever. I don't think of it often but when I do, I do.
Postscript: the entirety of MTMTE/LL is brainwormfood for me, but I've posted about that proportionally far more than I've posted about other comics. Needless to say I'm obsessed with pre-war Cybertron + Megatron and Ratchet's arcs, Chromedome and Rewind's wonderful horrible toxic mutually beneficial and affirming romance, season 1 in general, and Issue 47, oh and also the way the ending sucks (in a good way) and makes you feel sick (in an effective way)

Seducing Mr Bridgerton Chapter 4: The author rambles/Vents (Possible Spoilers for future chapters)
This is the most frustrating chapter to produce so far. Nothing is flowing and I hate everything about it!! The pace and rhythm of the POVs is so aggravating to work through, I've taken 16 breaks in the last three days!!! At this point, I think I'm just forcing out the words and it's so annoying!! Why can't the chemistry, banter and dynamics in my brain transfer to written word!!!
Aaaarrrrrggggghhh!!!
After trying to average at least 500-1000words per day till chapter completion. I've now got two extensively written deleted scenes. One just over 1000 and another at 700.
They're events/scenes that actually happen in the story, but their not necessary for the plot.
Honestly, I can understand why directors etc delete scenes from movies etc. Giving too much attention to side/minor character interactions and Povs can distract from the main storyline and characters.
On one hand, I feel like I'm growing as a writer thanks to the stress/struggle and temper tantrums this chapter has caused me. I'm learning alot about what is necessary narrative and overwhelming distracting details that lack purpose. But its so damn infuriating to have this chapter not match what my brain wants!!!
I think it's also the Canon chapter itself. I personally don't get the importance of the tea at Number 5. Other than them speculating and making theory's about LW it's a boring chapter. And in terms of Colin and Penelope, there was nothing really progressive in the chapter.
At this point, we all get that nobody thought Pen had the guts to do something like LW. And we all know Colin is an idiot boy with a heart of gold that needs to open his eyeballs asap.
I think I wanted this chapter to highlight the way others see Polin's interactions. Sure I've hinted and shortly indicated some characters understanding of them (Anthony, Benedict, Eloise and Lady D). But I wanted to write from an outside witness of the two of them together in the moment. I wanted to show that the tension/banter/affection between Colin and Penelope is so obvious that everyone is expecting/waiting for the snap that makes one of them make a move.
But my girl Eloise is so hard to write without letting her completely dominate the plot, narrative and tone of the chapter. Then there's Hyacinth who is eagerly wanting to be written in but struggling to hold any importance or purpose. Kate is hard as well. The Viscountess is very comfortable being a quiet observer, so quiet I forget she's even supposed to be in the scene. Violet has no purpose at all. But it's her tea party and so she's got to be there. And Anthony behaved for his feature and is very firmly refusing to do anything more.
Aaaarrrrrggggghhh!!!!
If I reflect on what I've mentioned so far, these are what come to mind:
Colin's gotten up to no good overseas. Sh! Don't tell the Bridgerton's.
Penelope knows detailed mechanics (and wonders bout her kinks) on the how of sex but has yet to experience it herself.
Implied Eloise and Penelope know each other's secrets but girl code ('We don't talk about _____' kinda vibe) to never speak or acknowledge that they know anything.
Colin doesn't like to be ignored, nor does he like to share.
Anthony can't read vibes and needs Kate to translate.
Colin thinks Penelope holds some sort of affection for Benedict. Strong enough for her to choose B over C.
This Author is such a fucking tease, they're frustrating themselves.
I have such specific plans for when Polin reaches their climax. I know I'm teasing, but that's because I want the characters to be starved for one another. I want them to devour and selfishly hoard one another from the eyes of the world. I want Colin to be utterly miserable after he's been given a taste of what he could have had for years but stupidly lost his right to after a temper tantrum. I want Penelope to deny, deny, deny Colin a single scrap of her love and affection so he can know the torture of pining and hungering without satisfaction. I need the darkness they hide within to overwhelm them both and to clash with one another so viscously they forget where they begin and the other ends. I NEED them to be so obsessed with one another that the rest of the world becomes background noise.
And fuck...... I just solved my own writer's block 🤦
Whelp. I'll guess I have to write from Polin pov and just give a short nod to someone else's pov at some point. Sorry if you feel disappointed about that.
In saying that, do you think I should post the deleted scenes? Should I do them separately or Nah? Should I wait till the end of the fic to properly share it on ao3 as a series?
Ugh idk.

TASK 06: CHARACTER INSPO
honorable mentions that aren’t strong parallels but i’m including them just for laffs: dennis reynolds (it’s always sunny in philadelphia), klaus hargreeves (the umbrella academy), jj maybank (outer banks), roman roy (succession), michelle mallon (derry girls), and this text post
see below for me going alligator_talking.gif about the six main parallels!
lip gallagher (shameless): ok i will not lie it has been years since i watched shameless so this one is mostly just vibes but his vibes are soooo jamie. especially the whole “feeling deeply but not knowing how to express feelings well so they come out in destructive ways” energy. i think the main similarity that differentiates lip from the other characters i included on here is that he’s smart in the same way that jamie is. sometimes i forget but jamie is actually very booksmart lmao it just doesn’t matter to him bc he never showed up to class and did not even consider college. so from what i remember of lip’s arc it’s the same kind of wasted potential energy where he could be applying his brain and succeeding in life but instead he does not give a flying fuck about academia and would rather be a menace to society.
dimitri (anastasia): i just thought of this parallel this morning and now i am absolutely obsessed with it. to be clear, i am not talking about the dimitri in the second half of the movie who learns to be selfless through falling in love and is sexily redeemed. i’m talking about the first half where he’s a lying con who manipulates others to his own ends and is a complete smooth-talking asshole. and also, the whole backstory of growing up poor and believing money will solve all of his problems? very jamie. even just the way he like, talks and carries himself is super similar to jamie’s mannerisms in my mind.
james cook (skins uk): once again i must include a disclaimer that i watched skins a super long time ago and my memory is poo. but ever since i came across this gifset, the jamie/cook parallel has lived rent-free in my head for months. i think the most distinctive thing he brings to the melting pot of jamie parallels is the fact that he is such a fucking survivor. like, no matter what bullshit he gets into & what kind of messes he creates for himself, he gets up and keeps going like a gross lil cockroach u keep trying to squish under your boot (thank you again to blair for that iconic comparison). and of course the general shitty troubled boy energy and the belief that he’s not really worth much at the end of the day.
john bender (the breakfast club): i know this movie is outdated and bender does some things that are straight up not okay but those are not included in this parallel thanks! we’re talking about the reckless disregard of rules and authority, the never knowing when to shut up, impulsivity and always fucking things up for himself. this is yet another case in which i don’t remember that much about the details of this movie lol but the vibes are 100% there.
jess mariano (gilmore girls): it’s this gifset for me if i’m being honest... the sarcasm is absolutely jamie vibes. i don’t think he has a ton in common with jess on a deep personality level but this one is mostly just based on energy? like the no-good kid who has a bad reputation in his small town, doesn’t give a shit what any of those people think, just walks around being a smartass instead. it’s also the mannerisms and the dry humor and emotionless witty facade.
rue bennett (euphoria): we’re just going to ignore rue’s whole addiction storyline because this one is also strong on just vibes! like if i had to describe how jamie carries himself through his day-to-day life, it’d be as a combination of dimitri, jess, and rue. i’m also including her because there is for sure something to be said for the fact that she believes the only thing she can do is hurt people, and there’s no point in trying to really better herself ‘cause she’s always just gonna be a shithead. that’s big jamie energy too.

well then how DO you square that in ur brain (curious not accusatory)
love this question. for context for anyone seeing this without having read all my tags, the question in its totality is basically “how do you square your understanding of brokeback as a text that should not have happy ending fanfiction written about it while also living in the pocket of big destiel and solemnly believing in the radical cosmic power of fanart of them kissing sweetly?”
the first place we need to look for an answer to this is this tweet that explains in my mind a lot about just how gay people respond to media in general
Tumblr media
full disclosure I did watch glee but not with my parents, but I appreciate the spirit here. when we talk about “lgbt media” we’re eliding a really widely varying collection of stories. our sister killjoy alongside love, simon. beach rats AND set it off! and for a lot of people in the current wave, there’s a big concern about telling gay stories with happy endings. I understand this! I see where the impulse is coming from! but I also question often how this sort of notion is deployed against lgbt storytelling. the day the supernova trailer dropped I listened to someone rant about how we only get sad movies as though the thoughtful romantic tale of two older gay men supporting each other through illness is the same as dallas buyers club. it irks me! not every story should have a happy ending and also not everyone agrees with what constitutes a happy ending. does a character dying automatically make an ending tragic? do the leads not ending up together preclude happiness? what does it mean to hold gay stories to the standard of only eliciting positive emotions? what do we lose if we can’t trust ourselves to look at unhappiness and just live with it?
proulx is a wonderful case of an author with a clear reason for her unhappy ending, she wants you to understand something less about these characters and more about the world they inhabit. she isn’t concerned with whether they are gay or straight or bi because she’s concerned with what happens when you grow up internalizing the idea that you deserve a tragic ending. like the ultimate sadness of brokeback to me is that ennis blames jack and himself for jack’s death. he can’t understand homophobia any other way than something that is caused by his own actions because his world is so steeped in it. he just has to stand it because he can ONLY stand it. when you just rewrite brokeback to give ennis a boyfriend at the end or bring jack back, you aren’t actually engaging with the work on the work’s terms. you are creating a completely different character to square in your own mind your discomfort with the reality proulx created specifically so you would sit with that discomfort.
I like sad gay stories! I like that they take the ugliness and shame and try to place it outside of me so I can look at it without feeling like it’s only mine to carry. I like messy gay stories where gay people do bad things and aren’t morally justified! I think destiel has a lot of sad ugliness and lack of moral justification that makes it absolutely diabolically wonderful in a way that would never have happened on the cw if these were just two cookie cutter lgbt characters named as such by the narrative who had to act in ways that corresponded with a mainstream understanding of queerness. and a lot of me likes a sad destiel ending where you do save the world at the cost of everything you hold dear or where you die because death doesn’t care if you have suffered enough and deserve a soft epilogue. but supernatural wasn’t actually trying to give me either of those endings. it was trying to make me shut up about the gay storyline they fed me and despised me for clinging to all the same. and this is not to say that we should judge every work based on ONLY the intentions of the author and the moral judgments we pass on them as a human being, but supernatural is a show deeply concerned with asserting its own moral goodness and correct takes on its own story. it doesn’t actually want me to think about the tragedy of the ending it gave me because it doesn’t see it as tragic. so then if I’m not supposed to see it as tragic, it would only follow that I’m allowed to find the ending I don’t think is tragic! the real becky laundry finale! I am engaging with the work on the work’s terms because the work told me the story is mine and it showed me that by engaging with me in decade long psychological warfare over whether lgbt people can be multifaceted protagonists. bringing becky back only confirmed what we knew all along — that we had a seat in the writers room. a sweet destiel ending is not in conflict with the messiness of the narrative, or at least not beyond the realm of things supernatural already did in its run that contradicted established notions about its characters. they can love each other and be selfish and spiteful and they can love each other in ways that are selfless and warm. they left us on a precipice in 15.18 that told us these men are defined by an unspoken love and we will now speak it! so it’s fitting that we speak it again and again in different forms with every silly little headcanon about the sugary domestic shit they get up to now that it’s been said.

Lost Legends
Okay so I read Lost Legends: The Rise of Flynn Rider and general thoughts? It was cute and fun, and I have gripes here and there but I can still recommend it. I don't want to compare it to WOWM because it's like apples and oranges but Lost Legends wins points for me by actually acknowledging the TTS storyline and characters, even though it's kinda brief and not quite as... entertaining.
And before I go into the in-depth spoiler review I'll jot down a few thoughts here: there's a lot to be said about tie-in media and 'canon', but where I think it becomes contentious is where two pieces contradict each other, and whether those contradictions necessitate a canonical hierarchy or cancel something out completely. And the reason I'm bringing this up is because while LL borrows TTS lore it also contradicts it? which is. ironic.
but i'll get into that. Spoilers ahead
Basic Summary of The Plot
Our story starts at the Dark Kingdom, with a short prologue. It's all stuff we already know from the series: King Edmund tries to grab the moonstone, his wife dies, Eugene gets sent away for his own safety. What's funny is that Ms Queen still doesn't get a name, but her Lady in Waiting/Handmaiden gets a name (Maeve), and it's Maeve who really drops the ball on dropping Eugene off at an orphanage instead of raising him as Prince Horace. Go girl give us nothing
And from here the LL timeline begins, as Eugene and Arnie are now twelve year olds (I think?) in an orphanage in Corona. Which is the first contradiction to 'canon' but shelve that thought for now. Eugene and Arnie are good little boys but they're getting too old to keep hanging around and the orphanage needs money for the evil Tax Man, so they decide they'll go off into the world and send some money back when they're rich off their famous adventuring. What happens instead is that The Baron's circus rolls into town (yes that Baron) and Eugene and Arnie decide to try their luck signing up for that gig.
To prove themselves to the Baron, Flynn and Lance have to perform a hazing ritual a heist. The heist is literally just to buy a key from the Weasel but it plays out as this huge dramatic thing with a guard chase which is eternally funny to me because two kids walk into a bar, buy a key and then leave, and it's treated like fucking ocean's eleven. The Stabbingtons try to betray them (those guys are here too) but Flynn and Lance outsmart them, beginning a rivalry for the ages. Also, the pub thugs are all part of the Baron's circus crew. Don't think about it too much.
Anyway, as this has all been going down, Eugene is really interested in getting to talk to this guy with a tattoo of (what we as the audience know is) the brotherhood symbol, which Eugene recognises from the note left with him as a baby. He wants to talk to this dude in the hopes he'll get a clue about who his parents are, but this dude keeps eluding him. He also hasn't had a chance to tell Lance about this yet, so when Lance finds out about it he assumes Eugene only tried to rope him into the circus so he could find his parents and ditch him. Cue an ongoing silent treatment.
Eugene eventually does talk to this guy and he learns that the Brotherhood symbol is from the Dark Kingdom but the Dark Kingdom is gone so he shouldn't bother looking for it. Bummer. And now the Baron is planning a huge heist of the reward money for the Lost Princess' return, and Eugene is getting cold feet. He's been okay with a little bit of thievery so far but this feels like too much for him, and he's not okay with pulling it off but Lance still won't talk to him.
As the plan unfolds, Lance and Eugene reconcile and then they work together to betray the Baron and return the stolen treasure that they stole back to the King and Queen. They get caught by the Baron, escape, then get caught by the guards, but it's okay because they're presented to the King and Queen and when Eugene explains that they felt really sorry about it and promise not to do it again they're let go. And so the story ends on a high note.
My Thots™
Okay so here are the thoughts
Canon Compliance?
The obvious takeaway here is that this story offers you a beautiful pie in the form of the characters you know and love and the established lore, then shoves the pie in your face with things like "Eugene already knows the Dark Kingdom and the Moonstone exist but he never brings this up" and "Eugene betrays the Baron in a very significant way but somehow they'll make up and he and Stalyan will get engaged". Which means that if the integrity of the series is important to you, you'll probably just mentally cross out Eugene knowing about the Brohood/DK/Moonstone.
And imo that's fine! My own approach to this story is a kind of general 'if it works it works, if it doesn't I'll leave it' thing to work my own headcanons around. Because there's a lot of fun things to pluck from, like a new ex-Brotherhood member and other characters that could pop up from Eugene's past and other worldbuilding details.
The Story
The story was pretty short and obviously very tailored towards a younger audience, but it still felt kind of... slow? Mostly because nothing particularly exciting is happening until the big heist and even that feels pretty underwhelming. And of course I don't expect a story like this to be particularly complex and can appreciate its simplicity, but I felt like if it had been longer there could have been more twists to keep things interesting.
For example, the Baron is set up as a character not unlike Gothel, who lavishes praise upon the boys and goes on about how they're 'family' but is obviously just manipulating them and would throw them to the wolves in a heartbeat. Eugene underestimates just how criminal the Baron is, but at no point in the story does the doubt we have in the Baron's sincerity ever amount to anything- Eugene only turns against him because he has a morality crisis, which I'll get to in a minute.
Misc. Thoughts
Okay so one thing I thought was really cute was that each chapter has a little 'quote' from a Flynnigan Rider book, and I wrote them all down so if you've read this far and want me to post those separately lemme know. Anyway I just thought it was a very cute touch.
An honourable mention goes to every time Stalyan shows up, she doesn't really do anything in the story yet still is somehow the only character holding the brain cell. Rapunzel gets an indirect cameo by Lance and Eugene stumbling upon her tower and going "Whoa that's Crazy. Anyway. " which is amazing, and Cassandra even gets a little mention by the Captain! And to answer the question nobody asked, there's a chameleon running around Corona because she's an escapee from the circus, and Pascal's mom's name is Amélie!
Characters - okay really just Eugene
Eugene/Flynn is the title character of the book and we get the story exclusively from his POV, so there isn't a lot to say about Lance. On the one hand while I can acknowledge that this is a story about Flynn, not Lance, there's a few choices that feel like a missed opportunity at best given that this book really was an opportunity to explore Lance's character in a way the series never really does.
And it feels extra egregious when the plot demands conflict between Eugene and Lance, because while the emotion between them is engaging when it's happening, at other times it just feels like a convenient way to shove Lance offscreen again. (As a side note, as contrived as the conflict is these are also two twelve year old boys so. Can't blame em too much).
Also, Eugene coming up with the name "Lance Strongbow" on Lance's behalf while he's unconscious is one of those backstory things I'm not going to be acknowledging, thank you.
The Robin Hood Dilemma
Something I touched on after reading What Once Was Mine is that Eugene's characterisation prior to the movie isn't something writers seem to really like... dealing with. And it kind of makes sense that the author received a lot of characterisation notes from Chris Sonnenburg, because little Flynn does feel very similar to the Eugene we know; only the Eugene we know is an adult man who has since grown out of his Flynn Rider persona. But the Flynn Rider persona he needed to grow out of isn't something that ought to be cast aside entirely!! Stop being cowards!!
Taking a step back, the whole premise of the book is kind of a paradox- because Eugene needs to become Flynn Rider before he can learn to embrace his authentic self, but Flynn Rider isn't hero material, he isn't a good guy, he's not the right protagonist for a story for kids. So what we get isn't Flynn Rider, it's really just Eugene trying on a new name. That works for the beginning of the story, because he is just Eugene trying on a new name, but he doesn't grow into it.
At the beginning of the story, Eugene is an orphan in a poor but still functional orphanage run by a kind old lady, and he is surrounded by nice little boys. Eugene is motivated to leave and get a job by a desire to send funds back to the orphanage, and when he joins the Baron's circus he's taken aback to learn he's among thieves. Here's where I thought: okay, this might get interesting. We might be getting a G-rated 'angel falls from heaven' story about Eugene being morally corrupted by the Baron, of learning that the world outside is tough and he needs to look out for himself first and foremost-
but no. The Baron shares his plan to steal the reward money for the Lost Princess, because all the people he's surrounded himself with are already criminals who don't give a shit, but Eugene thinks that this is going too far! What about that poor lost princess who people need an incentive to search for? (he's like, projecting about his own parent issues which is fair, but still). And so the story ends with Eugene turning on the Baron to return the money to the "right" people (aka the king and queen of a kingdom?? okay) but he takes a single golden egg for himself so he can send it to the orphanage.
Which is all sweet and nice but. He still has to become Flynn Rider, asshole extraordinaire. He still has to lose his morals to the point where he'd take an inexperienced young woman to a pub that he, in this book, recognises is a dangerous place in the hopes that he can ditch her. He still has to go and become a wanted thief and rejoin the Baron and then ditch Stalyan on their wedding night.
The reason I'm going on about this so much is that the appeal of Eugene to me is that he is this good guy who wants to be a better person for the people he loves, but that means recognising that he has behaviour he needs to change, and his development is meaningful for that. Watering him down to a righteous Robin Hood hero does him a disservice.

Summoning Ritual (1/3)
Author: @wordsfromthesol Taglist: @malfoys-demigod  @pricetagofficial  @zphilophobiaz @queencommonsense Pairing: Tim Drake x Reader Summary: You try a summoning ritual, optimistically hoping to be reunited with your parents, but somehow end up in Gotham. At Wayne Manor. Doesn't this stuff only exist in comic books and television? Word Count: 1.0k
Part Two   Part Three
You had performed similar rituals countless times, what was the worst thing that could happen? The person you were attempting to summon could actually appear? Imagine being able to see your parents again. Tell them one more time that you loved them. You just wanted somewhere that felt like home. Was that too much to ask?
So here you were, scribing the various symbols into the room around you. From what you pieced together from various internet forums, the ritual was supposed to act as a homing beacon. If your parents were out there, surely they would get your message. You began the incantation:

An hour had passed and still you sat on the floor, waiting for something to happen. You knew it was a stretch, it always was, yet somehow you still had hope. Finally, you stood up and sighed. "Maybe it takes a few hours to work," you mumbled before stumbling off to bed.
**
You woke up in an unfamiliar room as a strange sense washed over you. Though you couldn't place the emotion, this strange place felt right. Like you were meant to be there. Your eyes trailed around the room, looking for anything familiar. Wandering through the hallway, you still couldn't shake the feeling…then you saw it. The infamous grandfather clock. Were you dreaming? There's no way…You heard the click of the lock as you pushed the hands to 10:48. Before you made it down the stairs, everything went black.
You woke up, yet again, in an unfamiliar place. This time, however, your hand were bound together behind a chair. Moments after you awoke, you heard a voice -- though its owner was not present.
"How did you get in here?" The masculine voice didn't give you time to respond. "Who are you? Where did you come from?"
"Uhh --" your voice meekly broke through his line of questioning. "I used the clock…10:48. Y/N  Y/L/N. Upstairs." A man clad in red and black stepped out from the shadows. Before you could stop yourself, you shouted "Red Robin?!" Your hand flew over your mouth.
"So you do know of me…" He stalked over to the computer, punching in your name.
"This is a joke, right?" Your brain had finally caught up with the situation. "Some cosplay enthusiast? Sorry. I don't think I can be your Cassandra Cain, Stephanie Brown, or Barbara Gordon. Can I go now?"
As you began mentioning the names, he quickly spun around. His eyes grew wide as he stuttered out in shock, "How do you know those names?" His timbre grew more erratic and angry, "Where did you hear them?!"
"Fr…from the comics! Just like yours!"
"Woah woah woah…" Nightwing rushed it, but stopped short as he noticed your presence. "Red Robin, what seems to be the problem?" He turned towards his brother.
"She just appeared. Walking down the damn stairs. And knows too many names. Cass, Steph, Babs…"
You noticed the fire grow behind Nightwing's gaze. Obviously Dick was with Barbara in this storyline…"Wait okay!" You screamed out. "I know all of your names. You're just characters! In a comic! In several comics!"
"You better keep explaining." Dick growled out.
"Richard John Grayson, aka Dick, aka Nightwing. You were the first Robin after your parents died at Haly's circus because Haly wouldn't pay protection money to Zucco. Timothy Jackson Drake, aka Red Robin. You were officially the third Robin. Though I suppose you did try to be the second…and Bruce adopted you after your parents died. Though I guess only your mom died and your dad was paralyzed. Anyways, you saved Bruce…sorry Batman…from going off the deep end after Jason died." The rambling had begun and you couldn't stop it. Surprisingly neither of the superheroes before you stopped it either. "So Jason Peter Todd was the second Robin. He tried to steal tires off the Batmobile…idiot. And the Joker killed him by luring him with tales of his mother. He came back in the Lazarus pit and became Red Hood. Then you have Damian Wayne, the current Robin. He's actually the son of Bruce and Talia al Ghul --"
"Enough! What right do you possess to speak my name?!" Damian was on top of you in the blink of an eye. You felt the cold metal of his katana against your neck.
"Damian…" Dick warned from the sidelines. He wasn't exactly sure who you were or how you knew this…but he couldn't let his little brother kill you. At least not yet.
"Uh guys…" Tim directed his brothers' attention to the computer monitor before leading them out of the room.
"So the new girl is Zatanna and Constantine's kid?" They all jumped at the sound of Jason's voice.
"Geez Jaybird. Warn a guy, will you." Dick shook his head as they all turned their attention to Tim.
"I don't think she knows. One of you needs to get in contact with them. How did none of us know she existed? And why does she know everything about us? We need answers and I don't think she has them." Tim ordered the directives and sauntered back towards you. "So, Y/N is it?"
Your wall finally broke, "Look I'm sorry. I'm not supposed to be here. I just wanted to see my parents again. I just…" your voice hitched, "I wanted to be home." Tim was not prepared for this sudden breakdown.
"We, uh, we'll figure it out. Let me --" He walked around and began untying you from the chair.
"Sorry." You mumbled while rubbing your newly freed wrists.
"Guess I should be the one apologizing. Knocking you out…tying you to a chair…" Tim attempted to occupy your mind with something else as his brothers searched for your birth parents.
