Hello! I've been binging your fics/imagines lately and I just can't get enough! I don't know if this was ever done before, but--
Could you do a general, platonic (perhaps mildly romantic, like how I see Dean kinda gushing over Y/N idk, your choice!) imagine on how the men (Sam, Dean, Castiel, maybe Crowley [which would be funny]) would react to Y/N being some kind of powerful angel, like that sits at a pretty high rank and has the power to do all sorts of stuff? Healing, destroying, anger being so destructive it could kill a human (but albeit a peaceful being). This angel would probably serve as a guardian to the Winchesters, or a superior to Cass or a complete surprise and maybe unlikely companion for Crowley? I imagine it'd be a scenario where they're saved last second during a massive fight, probably get to know er type deal. This sounds kind of cheesy as I ask someone else to write this but I hope it doesn't sound too weird, I almost wanna go anonymous HAHA. I know this is VERY specific but I don't wanna confuse you! It's something I wanna write out into a fic myself but the way you write would make it super interesting! :)
So sorry if this was too much, I'm very descriptive!
Angel. (SPN pref!) 🩷

a/n: stop omg. this idea is so cool! also - thank you for the kind words!! i appreciate you so much!! i hope you enjoy this!
warnings: slightly romantic!!
Tumblr media
Dean:
Dean met you on a hunt
he was being himself and basically bleeding out, but he was still fighting
you, being in charge of the dink, had to come down and help out
when you appear, a bolt of white light strikes the ground and your voice projects through the atmosphere
“you will not hurt this man.” you say, hair blowing in the wind and eyes glowing
dean was flabbergasted, also a little scared, but also a little bit in love
eventually you just kill the entire vampire nest because they’re stupid and you turn to dean.
“are you okay?”
he’s even more confused because this angel just came down and slaughtered the threats to him and now they’re talking so.. nice.
you heal his wounds and boom. now he’s your friend
he follows you around like a lost puppy and also brags that he’s friends with not one, but two angels, and one is even more powerful and higher up than fucking CASTIEL.
as he gets to know you he knows how sweet you are and it inteigues him even more because - as i said, you’re a powerful angel who can kill anyone but you’re so nice to him, Sam, Bobby and Cas.
the first time he sees you angry he literally gets all red and falls for you
Sam:
You first met sam when he was basically bleeding out in a motel room
Dean had gone to get food and sam had been hiding a pretty nasty gash from him
so now he was sitting alone trying to patch himself up (and being unsuccessful)
so, you made your appearance and tried to keep him calm
you appeared and he saw you and went 👁️👄👁️
“it’s okay. i’m an angel. i will not hurt you.” you say softly, stepping towards him
sam is still a little wary but he lets you heal him
you press your fingers to his forehead and he’s all good (albeit a little scared hahah)
he always has the smuggest little smirk on his face when you get angry on his behalf
he likes the feeling of having such a powerful being watching over him all the time but it also makes him nervous because of… his past💀
addicts recover
Castiel:
When you came down from heaven to help the Winchesters and Castiel, he was happy to see you
he knew, despite rebelling from heaven, you wouldn’t judge him
he spends a lot of time near you
like, standing right next to you
i like to think that you have better “people skills” than him for whatever reason (it’s just funny) and he just kind of sticks to you ykwim
he thinks you’re so cool
he dosent step in to help you in fights because he knows you can handle it and kill anyone you want
he’s blushing and kicking his feet when he sees you🤭🤭🤭
absolute power couple if you guys got together like omg
but yeah
he always defends you if anyone says shit
he’s just such a cutie pie
Crowley:
you popped in when crowley was holding dean and sam hostage
you came into the room, eyes rolling already.
“let them go.” you said, voice sounding bored as you’d done this multiple times already.
crowley looks at you
“oh god, you again.” he scoffs
BUT he dosent even bother to argue and lets them go
which shocks the boys because that’s not like crowley
but he’s smitten for you
it’s giving enemies to lovers
but anyways
you guys have many encounters and end up talking a lot
crowley talks about hell and you talk about heaven
and he finds himself not hating you
and suddenly he wants to be around you more and learn about you and watch you be a badass angel

Okay so my thoughts on when Dean and Cas fell for each other:
Starting with Cas, I think that he felt a connection with Dean from the beginning (I mean, my guy fully branded him when raising him from hell), and I think that the course for his his more literal fall was set as soon as he pulled Dean’s soul out of hell. As he met Dean and became more human, I think that bond became more personal (more…profound, you could say), and by season 6 Cas has been radically changed by it, and by Dean. I really debated whether I thought this Cas was in love with Dean, and I think that the answer is yes, but I don’t think he knows it. For me, the moment Cas realizes he’s in love with Dean is in 7.17, when he remembers what he did. I think Cas gets a lot of clarity in this moment—too much, really, for him to handle—and he sees what he did and why he did it. By purgatory, though? Cas is absolutely in love with Dean. His decisions—first to run so Dean is safe from the Leviathan and then to go along with his plan until the end, unwilling to let him down, plus the absolute death glares he shoots at Benny—all align with the way Cas continues to act in the future: focused in protecting Dean and trying to make up for what he’s done.
Dean is both more straightforward to me and more convoluted. First, because I really don’t know when Dean fell for Cas, just that I believe it was sometime before he was sent to the endverse—I mean, his reaction to endverse!Cas and his relationship with older Dean? But I don’t think Dean acknowledges it, or maybe even knows at that point. And that’s something of a trend as well: Dean’s trust in Cas that’s misplaced during season 6, and his forgiveness in season 7 (plus the act of carrying around the trenchcoat and everything about “i’d rather have you, cursed or not’), his refusal to leave purgatory without Cas, the ‘i need you’ in the crypt…it goes on and on, and I don’t think Dean always justified it as being no more than he’d do for the rest of his family. But I think that somewhere along the line, it’s not subconscious. He knows, but he won’t admit it to himself (I’d probably place this during purgatory). Which brings us to All Along the Watchtower, and Dean losing Cas in a way that seems to stick, after having been fighting with him, and I think that’s when he acknowledges it, because at that point, what does he have to lose? Cas is already gone. And when Cas is back? I don’t think he can shove it back down, but I think he tries not to change anything either, because Dean struggles to believe good things happen at all, and he cares too much about having Cas back to risk ruining things by acknowledging how he feels. And that makes it hurt even more when Cas says that the one thing he wants is something he can’t have, because he had Dean, really. He just didn’t know it.
Anyway, those are just my thoughts, but I honestly think you can make arguments for SO many different seasons and moments and that is part of why I love them! Because they love each other so deeply platonically, there are a multitude of moments that could be the one where romantic love came into play too.

actually i’m getting mad about this for real. cas says that the one thing that he wants and which would make him truly happy is something he knows he can’t have, so instead he’s going to find his true happiness in the act of confessing that desire even though he knows nothing can come of it. then he tells dean he loves him. dean and cas have been best friends for 12 years, cas already has dean’s platonic love, the only way saying “i love you” could be cas admitting to something he wants but can’t have is if he’s saying he loves dean romantically and the thing he wants but can’t have is a romantic relationship with dean. you literally can’t say “oh well he meant it platonically because that’s my interpretation” that is textually not what cas is saying in the scene you can’t just pretend the wanting and not having part of the speech didn’t happen 2 plus 2 is 4 there are four lights

Canonverse Castiel-centric/pining/loving Cas fics
some of these are Dean's POV and a lot are alternating POV, but all of them really delve into Cas's emotions and his love for Dean. All canonverse and all happy endings. Categorised by post-confession, pre-s15 curtain fic and other canon-era. Descending word count within each category. If anyone has any recs for things I should add lmk!
Post-Confession Fics
things happen (they do, they do, and they do) by sobsicles 28k rating E
Everyone has recced this, and for good reason, it's stunning. Cas gets back from the empty and Dean sort of lets him down gently and is very worried about breaking his heart. Despite this Cas is finally able to express to Dean how much he loves him and takes full advantage of this. He's earnest and sweet and so intense about it, but also incredibly hurt about the lack of reciprocation, though he tries to hide it. He does get the love he deserves in the end and it's so good!
closer (isn't close enough) by fleeceframe 18k rating E
Again, Dean's POV, but very much focused on how much Cas loves him. Has the gorgeous Cas line: “When you are hungry, you eat. When you are tired, you rest. When you are dirty, you bathe. But what are you supposed to do with love?”
My unintended by DeanaWinchester, Jeanne_de_Valois 10k rating E
Really good Cas POV, he’s obsessive and insecure but also deeply loving.
my heart a compass by lagaudiere 10k rating T
The empty torments Cas with visions of Dean and of the family he longs to have with Dean. Dean saves him.
I said show me something by ilovehowyouletmefall 7k rating E
Sparked by the debate about whether or not Dean thinks Cas can feel. Cas is hurt by Dean saying he thought he couldn't feel and vulcan mind melds to show him exactly how he feels about him. It's a really interesting exploration of both of their feelings and fears.
Gift by thisisapaige 2k rating G
Very sweet little fic of them trying to work things out once Cas returns from the empty.
Pre-s15 Curtain Fics
take the long way home by dothraki_shieldmaiden 95k rating E
Dean tries to retire with his family but finds himself alone as Sam and Jack take a road trip and Cas goes hunting in order to prove he's still useful as a human and to avoid thinking about his feelings for Dean. Really agonising and harrowing at the start as they both feel so rejected and miserable. Cas gets into situations where monsters use his feelings for Dean to attack him. Eventually, they're able to tentatively work out their feelings and settle down together and it's very sweet.
Morning Glory by edgarallanrose 26k rating E
Dean and Cas retire together. Cas becomes a beekeeper and Dean starts to use the honey he makes to bake goods, which they sell at the farmer's market. Cas is very much in love with Dean but it takes Dean a bit longer to work things out.
Other Canon-era
A Winter's Tale by NorthernSparrow 64k rating T
This one hurts a lot, so fair warning for that. Cas falls ill while human and homeless and is hospitalised. Dean finds the journal Cas kept as he struggled to survive in this time. Pre-Destiel but Cas does write a lot about his feelings for Dean. Sam and Dean shower Cas with love and kindess as he recovers. Also a destiel epilogue that is very sweet and fluffy.
In the Shadow of your Wings by Enochian Things (Salr323) 57k rating E
Cas confesses his love to Dean post s11 finale but the timing is terrible and Dean is very repressed about it all and breaks Cas's heart. Cas gets an Italian man of letters boyfriend in an attempt to get over it and Dean is insanely jealous (which Cas is oblivious to) but they all have to work together to try to save Sam from the BMOL. Dean eventually gets his shit together and treats Cas the way Cas has learnt to understand he deserves.
That Black Dog Ache by SaltyWords (agent4hire22) 28k rating E
This is very much Dean's POV but I'm putting it here anyway because it has a really intense love confession from Cas, which I'll include an excerpt of that drives me insane:
'“I listen to your music, and I close my eyes. I try to imagine I’m in the Impala, hunting with you. And, sometimes,” his throat jumped, “I lay on your bed. I think about what it would be like if I got to have a place on it beside you... If you ever let me get close enough.”'
Kelp!I Need Somebody by andimeantittosting (Saylee) 27k rating E
A really sweet fic in which Sam, Dean and Cas go to investigate a case on Jesse and Cesar's ranch. Switching POV with really good mutual pining as they tentatively begin to realise the other feels the same.
Being Dean Winchester by Anonymous 26k rating E
Set early s4, Cas has to possess Dean temporarily. While doing this, he has to work to hide his feelings from Dean. Cas is already obsessed with Dean and in love with him but is embarrassed by it and struggles to keep Dean from seeing all of this, especially when Dean wants to have sex with someone while Cas is possessing him.
Après by imogenbynight 24k rating E
Set after the angels fall in s8. Cas falls to earth in Paris and realises he's in love with Dean. Dean comes to get him and they find love together in Paris.
desiderium, lost by atlasian 20k rating T
Castiel confesses his love for Dean and Dean tells him to move on. Cas tries, fairly unsuccessfully, before Dean gets it together.
No Other Worthy Quest by MajorEnglishEsquire 15k rating E
Cas just loves Dean very much.
'“For fuck's sake,” his skin is heating. Cas can feel it. “Stop saying lovey-dovey shit.”
“I know,” Cas rolls his eyes. “It’s so mortifying for you when I want to tell you I love you. I’m using all my self-restraint, I promise not to embarrass you.”'
The Arrow by jscribbles 12k rating T
Valentine's day and Cas has been hit by a Cupid's arrow and is literally sick with love for Dean.
and all this devotion by dothraki_shieldmaiden 10k rating M
Dean gets hurt on a hunt and Cas takes care of him in a cabin. Very sweet, delightful Cas POV of him being very much in love.
Cuckoo And Nest by komodobits 10k rating E
Cas struggles to work out why Dean deems some things meaningful and some things worthless, and where he fits into this apparent dichotomy. Really gorgeous and agonising Cas POV that deals with their constant issue of Dean just wanting Cas to stay and Cas wanting Dean to want him to stay but they're both too afraid to express it.
Breathe by turningthepages 9k rating G
Dean and Cas platonically sleep together to help with Dean's sleep. Cas both likes the situation and longs for it to mean more.
First Date by aeli_kindara 9k rating T
Dean asks Cas on a date and they're both trying very hard to make it all work. The sequel is stunning too.
'Dean says, “We should do that. Go on a date.”
Something in Castiel’s chest fuzzes, like static on a TV, and stops.'
weights on my ankles by dothraki_shieldmaiden 9k rating M
After 15x3 The Rupture, Cas goes back to Rexford. While there, he thinks about how Dean hurt him all those years ago and how he hurt him more recently. Partly a 9x6 Heaven Can Wait fanfic-gap fic.
Let it Linger by OmniscientOranges 8k rating M
Cas starts sleeping with men out of jealousy when watching Dean pick up women at bars. The way the fic describes how in love he is and how hopeless he feels about it is both agonising and very sweet.
He Thought He Was Reckless by MajorEnglishEsquire 8k rating M
Cas plays up injuries so that Dean will coddle him. Self-woobification from the Angel of the Lord and it's so sweet!
Something to Protect by Sass_Master 6k rating G
Cas tries to work out how to make Dean feel less unsafe so that he no longer has to jolt awake. Sweet, tentative intimacy and Cas enjoying it so much.
lonely hearts. by outpastthemoat 5k rating G
Deals with Cas accompanying Sam and Dean on hunts and feeling incredibly lonely and longing to be with Dean. He finds solace in romance novels.
Some People Would Call This Romantic by almaasi 5k rating G
Human Cas goes to the beach and finds it rather overwhelming. Taking a romantic walk with Dean along the beach is also overwhelming.
The Tea is Decaf by mnwood 4k rating T
Really sweet! Cas and Eileen talk and gossip about Sam and Dean in the bunker at night over tea.
A Place to Rest by Inessencedivided 3k rating G
Dean and Cas talk through things after the Stuck in the Middle with You love confession. Cas cries some more.
White Noise by domesticadventures 2k rating G
Cas struggles with feelings of worthlessness in the aftermath of Lucifer's possession.
Receipts by surlybobbies 1k rating G
Cas writes little notes about how much he loves Dean on receipts from meals they share together. Dean finds them.

episodes that were Game Changers for destiel that is episodes that took the romantic narrative to a whole new level:
- the man who would be king. no but really this WAS the first big turning point for destiel imo this episode was framed as a love story like even if it wasn't intentional it was. it was. sorry mr. edlund you can't brother zone your way out of cas watching dean rake leaves and dean's orpheus turn.
- the born again identity. i've said it before and i'll say it again: the moment cas showed up on that porch he became the love interest. like. "what's your issue?" [insert one of the most baffling acting choices jensen ever made]. the trenchcoat. he kept the trenchcoat and moved it from car to car. i can't BELIEVE that aired on network television.
- a little slice of kevin. was almost tempted to put 8.02 instead purely because "where's the angel?" and "i prayed to you cas, every night!" are both fucking insane but what can i say dean hallucinating/seeing cas in a scene so romantically framed it makes me black out every time i watch it and repressing his memories so he doesn't have to deal with the pain of cas choosing to leave him won out. i've always said that s8 was the point of no return in the sense that it made destiel so blatantly romantic on both sides that it could never be truly removed from the narrative moving forward - prior to this they had at least like. SOME plausible deniability re dean - but this is always the episode i think of in particular. like i think there are a lot of reasons that the spn writers decided not to make cas' love explicitly unrequited and i won't get into it all now but i am fairly certain that dean's "i did not leave you" being a line that exists was among them like. they KNEW that it would be bullshit they knew it wouldn't fit.
- goodbye stranger. like. literal power of love breaks the curse à la ella enchanted. AND. as if that wasn't enough. the titular needle drop and sam vs. dean's reactions like guys it has BEEN canon. and god that's not even mentioning the fact that "i need you" was originally "i love you" like robbie thompson was NOT messing around.
- the future. a mixtape is not platonic. especially considering the context it was used in. moving on!
- lost and found. i mean widower arc as a whole obviously but the intensity of dean's reaction to cas' death in this particular episode is fucking stunning. the scene where dean prepares his body was NOT needed they very easily could've had dean walk in uncover him look sad and then cut to the funeral pyre. they didn't. instead they had dean prepare cas' body - alone - because cas was his significant other. like it's really that simple.
- the trap. insane episode especially in hindsight because we know the romantic dialogue/framing was purposeful. i left but you didn't stop me i should've stopped you ever since the mark made cas go crazy ever since i had to BURY him in a ma'lak box ever since then etc. etc. anyways for me this was a game changer because it's a huge part of why i started watching again at all like. yes the august promo got me interested but it wasn't until i watched the destiel scenes from this episode on youtube (+ the breakup scene) that i went. oh fuck. and promptly created this blog.
- despair. no explanation needed ❤️

Hi, I've followed you for a long time and I really have been appreciating & identifying with your response to the internet explosion about Cas & Dean, so I thought maybe you could help me? I'm also autistic and I'm REALLY confused why everyone has been saying "Destiel is canon" when Dean hasn't responded yet & all we have so far is Cas' confession? I know I can be literal, but that's not mutual yet? I don't understand. No worries if you can't reply, thanks for your time either way. 💜
hello, dear! i get how that’s confusing, but the key thing here is it openly, tacitly acknowledges the concept of romance between dean and cas.
for years, it’s been implied if not outright said that we, destiel shippers, are delusional for seeing dean and cas’s relationship as romantic. we’ve been shamed and mocked and told that we’re stupid for ~making it gay~ when they’re just good friends. all this time, we’ve been ridiculed for seeing what “isn’t there”.
then cas looked dean in the eye and said “i love you” in a way that not even the straightest straight can misconstrue as platonic. therefore, after a decade of hints and implications and snide remarks (like mockingly calling cas dean’s “boyfriend”, “the one in the dirty trenchcoat who’s in love with you”), it is no longer subtext. it is canonically textual that there is romance in this relationship.
yes, okay, dean hasn’t reciprocated yet, but it’s there, hanging between them, said out loud. no longer lingering looks or ambiguous statements like “i need you” or “i love you, i love all of you.” cas is in love with dean.
it is spoken, acknowledged, and in fact blessed by the narrative, because being in love with dean is what granted cas true happiness. with two episodes left, the peak of castiel’s character arc is not only accepting that he’s in love with dean, it’s in being unashamed of it, happy with it. after 11 years of cas visibly struggling with depression and emptiness and feeling directionless, he finds his meaning, his happiness, in confessing his love to dean.
and all of that means that we were right. when we said that invisibly watching a man raking leaves isn’t a bromance, when cas broke free of mind control, when dean asked “what broke the connection?” and cas said “i don’t know” and we screamed at the tv “YOU!!! YOU BROKE THE CONNECTION, BECAUSE I LOVE YOU!” we were fucking right.
all of this wasn’t just good friends, we weren’t making it up, we weren’t ~making it gay~, because NEWSFLASH ASSHOLE, IT WAS GAY THE ENTIRE FUCKING TIME.
now, one might say, aren’t we technically only half right, since dean loving cas hasn’t been textually confirmed?
sure, maybe. but with “i love you” dropped like a bomb between dean and cas, it reframes everything that’s ever happened between them. we look back at all of cas’s actions to and for dean, everything he’s ever said to dean, every time he’s looked at dean, and realized that he was in love all along. then, what we automatically do next, is look at dean, all his actions and words and looks, and ask ourselves... wait, was he in love with cas the whole time too?
that’s the question that the audience automatically asks, to fill the empty space left by dean not having the time to react or say anything in response. without dean’s answer, we look for an answer ourselves. the audience asks this question, and therefore the show will have to give an answer. desperately we want to know, does dean love cas back???
and what can be the answer? with every extraordinary thing they’ve ever done for each other, with half those extraordinary things textually confirmed as romantic, with dean sitting on the floor crying his eyes out, there is no other possible answer but yes. and furthermore, we want the answer to be yes. we naturally yearn for dean to find cas, save cas, and tell him “i love you too,” when we might not have been lead into that yearning for reciprocity if he had said it back immediately.
an audience that hasn’t shipped destiel all along might have balked at both of them saying i love you “out of nowhere”, but this play of events can cause even a casual viewer who never before interpreted dean and cas as romantic to shout at their tv “of course dean loves cas back!! he has to find cas and tell him!!” suddenly, even a casual viewer wants canon destiel.
so what does that mean? that means the longtime destiel shipper sits back and says,

Cas&Dean VS Claire&Jack
So I wrote [a small little theory] a while ago as to why I think Claire and Jack wouldn’t have been shown on screen together/have any connection throughout the show on-screen/off-screen at all. And so here I will some points as to why I think that is.
AKA here’s the long awaited essay/conspiracy theory y’all have been asking for.
First of all; let me start off by saying this is 100% meant as a joke (no it’s not) and it’s not to be taken seriously (yes it is) as it’s literally just a dumb theory (it definitely isn’t). And second; fuck the C*W for contributing to every little bit of tinhatting this fandom (especially us hellers) has succumbed to.
-
Now; for this theory we have to understand a few things:
How Dean and Cas work as individuals
How Claire and Jack work as individuals
How Dean and Cas work as a duo
Let’s start with the first two things.
How Dean and Cas work as individuals
Dean Winchester is a masculine, tough but loving hunter. He cultivates a “bad-boy personality”, and makes sarcastic jokes at even the most morbid times. Underneath, though, he's become hardened by life as a warrior (as Daddy’s blunt instrument, if you will). He’s been taught to fight his father’s battles, and protect the ones he loves and cares for. But soon began to see that neither of his parents (especially his dad) did the job they were given when they had children. He didn’t just have to be a brother; he had to be a father and mother. He’s had to grow walls around him to stay strong for his little brother, but over time, after making a family for himself, it became easier to tear those walls down. However, he has his weak spots and is an emotional and loving human being through and through.
Castiel, the Angel of Thursday, is an angel of the Lord. He’s lived for aeons, and as an angel has (just like Dean) been taught to fight the battles of his creator and father. He’s a warrior, and he’s been given the job to follow the orders of said creator. Only for those orders to be thrown out the window once he meets Dean Winchester. The man who showed him that hate and anger isn’t always the true answer and that you can choose to be good. Everything that he has been taught slowly breaks away as his hard exterior crumbles, and he develops into a being with emotions, as he slowly but eventually learns to love and care for this man, and with that; humanity.
How Claire and Jack work as individuals
Claire Novak, a woman who has lead a tragic life, where she lost both her parents early on. Her father said yes to be the (permanent) vessel of an Angel, and her mother just disappeared after dropping her off to her Grandmother. After the grandmother had passed away, she was left alone. She had to fight through the world on her own, as she put a wall around herself to make herself stronger for the people around her. It took a while before she found her place in a loving family filled with strong women, who didn’t just help bring her walls down, but build a home instead.
Jack Kline is an innocent, naive but loving Nephilim. The son of the human Kelly Kline and the archangel Lucifer. He was destined for evil, as a Nephilim is one of the most powerful creatures in existence. But, with the help of his three Godfathers (heh), he learns that he doesn’t have to be evil. He can be whatever he wants to be. Controlling his powers has been hard, but no matter what happened, his mindset never changed as he grew to love the people and love the things around him. His biological father saw his power, but his chosen father saw his kind soul. Castiel believed he could create paradise, and he did, as he became the God that the universe deserved.
There are alot of parallels between Dean/Claire and Jack/Cas that can be compared to here. Let me show you a few:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So we’ve established that with Claire being Dean-coded, and Jack being Cas-coded, there could’ve definitely been potential for a cute Claire/Jack dynamic in the show. Why wouldn’t they have done that, you think? Perhaps this question can be answered when we look at thing number 3:
How Dean and Cas work as a duo
Destiel is the relationship between the hunter Dean and the angel Castiel. Castiel was ordered by God to free him from Hell, and afterwards he was supposed to do as he was told while Dean was supposed to figure out how to “stop the apocalypse” which happened to be a bunch of garbo afterwards knowing what we know now. Nonetheless, Castiel didn’t listen, as he quickly grew fond of the hunter and, because of him, developed a sense of emotion and free will. This lead to Castiel helping Dean throughout the Apocalypse, and beyond, and they’ve been best friends ever since.
There have been MULTIPLE essays on Tumblr about how this relationship works, and it would be silly of me to try and summarize stuff that hasn’t been said a million times already. But basically; What they have is quite a bit more than best friendship. It has been confirmed in 15x18, Despair, that Castiel has been in love with Dean for quite some time, as Dean’s own feelings are kind of all over the place. Nothing has been confirmed, yet nothing has been denied. But, seeing as all the insane things Dean has done for/because of/regarding Castiel... for instance:
defended his behavior to his brother and father when neither trusted him in season 6
kept his trenchcoat when he “died” in season 7, and keeping it with him in the trunk of his car(s) for the entirety of Castiel’s absence.
absolutely despises angels, and hates praying, yet he only ever prays to Castiel when he needs anything because he’s the only one he trusts
couldn’t get his mind of of him when he was possessed by Lucifer, and later taken by Amara in season 11
Has Castiel being referred to as his Colette by Cain (subtext but not really subtext because it was so incredibly obvious)
was supposed to be completely enamored by Amara and was supposed to be so hypnotizingly attracted to her that he couldn’t focus on anything else, yet he called out for Castiel’s name when it came down to it (aka the equivalent of calling out someone else’s name during sex)
keeps looking at him like that
acted like a grieving widow when Castiel died in season 13
gets down on his knees to pray to, cry for and apologize to Castiel in Purgatory when there’s millions of creatures hunting his ass
...it’s easy to say that this is more than just a “brotherly friendship” between the two. There is dialogue that would NOT have worked between Sam/Cas because it would’ve felt weird. I wonder why.
So now to get back on topic; why is it that we’ve never seen Claire and Jack on screen together?
Is it because the writers didn’t have time to put them together in any given scenario whatsoever? Is it because the writers didn’t care enough for Claire to give her some more airtime with the boys?
Or is it perhaps that if there was a possibility that they’d be on screen together, that they’d have a very similar (if not the same) connection to one another as Dean and Cas, only written as an actual little brother/big sister friendship dynamic?
-
So yes, TL;DR: the actual reason that Claire and Jack never met is because they would’ve had the exact same dynamic as Dean and Cas, but in this case platonic. Which would’ve meant that the audience would’ve seen a clear difference between the Dean/Cas dynamic and Claire/Jack dynamic, and it would’ve shown that the way they’ve been writing and directing the Dean/Cas scenes is romantic.
thank you very much, and I bid thee a very good night. <3

It has come to my attention that some of you have not been made aware of the fact that Plato was well known for being a Destiel shipper, in addition to the fact that he also wrote some philosophical works on the side. Let me explain.
Plato was an Athenian thinker whose real name was Aristocles (Plato most likely comes from the Greek word for ‘broad”, he might have been so jacked that people nicknamed him for his wide shoulders, which is irrelevant to the topic at hand but I’m collecting receipts on my hypothesis that all hellers are physical beheamoths). His work regarding the philosophy of love can be interpreted through the lens of the Deancas love story, which can potentially lead us to discover the very essence of what makes Destiel so impactful and universal, so bear with me, I’ll make it as introductory as possible.
Plato’s Symposium is a dialogue which contains the philosopher’s basic view on what love can be. The influence of the aforementioned text has been so strong that even those of us who are blissfully unaware of its contents have heard of the concept of “platonic love”. It is with great disappointment that I have to inform you about the fact that the way in which the term is colloquially used can be considered quite removed from the core idea of what Plato’s love is supposed to be about. Commonly people utilize it to refer to a non-romantic and non-sexual emotion towards an individual. However, even though the extrasensory love was the end goal, it was never too far distanced from the earthly, carnal desire that was supposed to lay the foundation for greater experiences.
One of the most illustrative elements of the Symposium is no doubt the Love Ladder metaphor (also known as Diotima’s Ladder of Love, the Scala Amoris); Plato believes the act of loving to be a part of the process of initiation into the non-material world of ideas. Every step of the ladder helps one approach the transcendence of one’s soul, and so we can single out six steps to immortal absolutes:
1. The first step is developing an appreciation for a particular person. It’s a very much carnal (though not necessarily conventionally sexual) desire for beauty of a specific individual. According to Plato only through the love of the physical can one love the non material. The visceral infatuation with another’s body is often strongly rooted with the self-hatred of one’s own aesthetical poverty: within the carnal love we seek to find that which our own body lacks. The desire between Dean and Cas doesn’t have to be seen as strictly sexual, as the appreciation of beauty does not warrant a conventionally erotic subtext. This sort of fascination with the flesh is most noticeably highlighted in the many “eye sex” scenes in seasons 4-5, and is later brought up by Hester:
The very touch of you corrupts. When Castiel first laid a hand on you in Hell, he was lost.
Tumblr media
2. The second step stems from the appreciation for all physicality derived directly from the love one has for the lover’s form. It’s fleshed out any time Dean finds beauty in the dark times, where he would have never found it before or when Cas sees humanity through the lens of the love he has for the beauty within Dean Winchester. This step is all about finding the allure in everybody, not in spite of but rather because of having fallen for a specific person’s material form.
Tumblr media
3. The next step is a love which transcends the physical and teaches an individual to feel affection towards the souls. The attraction one can experience in relation to that which is non material is precisely what takes the function of the driving force behind both Castiel’s and Dean’s decisions in season 6 and onward (arguably even much earlier for Cas? or even Dean? Maybe we’re talking about season 4?). As evidenced by the apparent lack of attraction Dean experiences towards Jimmy himself, he must have already moved on to this stage (the Cas he loves is not just the vessel he inhabits). Castiel on the other hand feels heavily infatueted with Dean’s spiritual allure (even when he’s physically on the verge of a breakdown, he’s still beautiful, still Dean Winchester).
Tumblr media
4. It is only then that one can find love for the institution. If one worships souls, then one also has to worship the product of those souls: and, sure enough, loving humanity led Castiel to love its structures and ethical systems and be willing to die fighting for them. In the later seasons he exhibits fascination over all the little rules that guide an average human’s life (which is especially fleshed out in his season 7 dialogues, where he contemplates all the small details of the societal structure, ie: how important is lipstick to you?, maybe the human institutions should ban its production). Same can be said of Dean: the customs and traditions of other people are subject to his affectionate protection in the later seasons, which sets s6 and onwards Dean apart from the early seasons Dean who cared mostly about his blood relatives. The found family arc was for him a process of growing attached to the order of life which was previously foreign to him, and him learning to navigate functioning within a big family structure and an organization (the last one is physically manifested by his move from a chaotic life spent at random motels to living at the bunker, property of the institution of Men Of Letters).
Tumblr media
5. Then comes the deep appreciation of knowledge. Now, it is widely disputed whether what Plato meant should be strictly narrowed down to just one kind of knowledge (in many English translations you might encounter the word ‘science’, though used in the ancient sense). The process of gaining knowledge is often equated with the understanding of ideas in Plato’s work, therefore we’re going to stick with that. The act of loving the process of discovering both the external and the internal world is a strong factor which pushes Dean to self examination, or the examination of the inner psyche. It is that pursuit of knowledge that is the very coronation of his entire character arc: the realization of his role within the story (”I’m not the ultimate killer”) which was directly derived from the act of loving Cas.
Tumblr media
6. The final stage of platonic love is reaching the love of the very concept of Love. Once again, interpretations vary, but for the sake of the argument, I’ll clarify that: the discussed kind of love transcends both the body and the soul. An individual is in love with Beauty, not just one of it’s physical or spiritual manifestations. In my opinion, this stage is extremely well depicted during the 15x18 confession scene, for it is a kind of love achieved by Castiel. He is no longer just in love with the body or soul of Dean, he’s also in love with the sole idea of loving him. He quite literally states that he’s fallen in love with the idea of just being, just saying it, just falling in love.
Tumblr media
Upon achieving this state, he transcends his material conditions both by leaving the human world (his move to another dimension - the Empty - could be just an illustrative manifestation of the transcendental move of his essence) and giving birth to a new world order. The way in which he later on goes to rebuild Heaven and give birth to a completely new, structure of the universe is in line with a concept that Plato ties into the finale step of the Ladder - pregnancy of the soul. At one point in Symposium he describes Diotima saying that:
That in that life alone, when he looks at Beauty in the only way that Beauty can be seen--only then will it become possible for him to give birth not to images or virtue (Because he’s in touch with no images), but to true virtue (Because he is in touch with the true Beauty).
What is the christian equivalent and personification of the true idea of Virtue if not the abstract concept of Heaven? The moment Cas creates a new portrayal of Virtue he finishes the Ladder. It could also be argued that the true pregnancy of the soul was actually finished when Jack ascended to the status of God: an entity which belongs to the realm of ideas and is perfect by its very nature is birthed through Castiel’s love (which can be traced back to the feelings he has for Dean Winchester).
And it is the fact that Dean’s arc got stuck on the fifth stage of the Ladder that causes me so much pain. He dies before transcending and experiencing the non-temporal and non-relative feeling of love that one can gain only through the admiration of beauty itself. His life was cut short and his soul has already left the mortal, physical world, therefore he is forever unable to experience the feeling of loving Love and Virtue so much that his soul gives birth to an unbreakable idea.
In conclusion: if you ever see somebody say that Dean and Castiel’s relationship is platonic, just agree. It is very much so platonic in the sense that through their carnal and spiritual desires they’ve manged to (nearly, in Dean’s case) transcend their material conditions and reached the divine aspect of ideal Beauty and Virtue, rooted in a love that’s so deep that it’s perfectly able to redefine the structure of one’s existence.

Please forgive my potential ignorance but how exactly did they allow explicitly canon destiel in the Russian dub? Isn't Russia one of the countries that banned lgbt content?
HI! okay so - idk about the ban (I hadn't heard this specifically, but I could be wrong since I no longer live there!)
however, when I say explicit, please know I mean this on the basis of my acquaintance with Russian media and specifically the dialogue used in the translation, which to me reads like EVERY romantic scene I have ever ever ever seen in a Russian show or movie. it doesnt mean Dean does a "y yo a ti" (LATAM dub, still supreme).
But literally, just literally. The way they used the I love you. THAT IS NOT A PLATONIC WAY OF SAYING I LOVE YOU. People do not say I love you like this in Russia to someone who is their bro, ESPECIALLY TWO MEN.
Also, instead of "don't do this Cas" Dean says "dont you even think about it" (can also be read as "dont you dare") which is so much more intense and emotional.
Idk if other Russian speaking friends wanna chime in bc I am having a HARD TIME articulating fucking ANYTHING rn but. explicitly romantic. like when I heard this I broke down sobbing bc its just. they made it so. LIKE THIS WAS ON PURPOSE THEY MADE IT THIS WAY ITS ROMANTIC! THEY HAD DEAN ADD A "WHAT??" TOO WHEN THE EMPTY CAME TO SHOW HIS CONFUSION ISNT ABOUT THE CONFESSION ITS ABOUT THE GOODBYE. DONT YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT IT
HE DIDNT WANT HIM TO LEAVE (I mean we knew this. I know we knew this. but.)
I CANT ADHJTLKA:JAKLGH
anyway.

Here's a breakdown of the German dub of 15x18 by a native German speaker, for anyone interested! The person does not have a Tumblr, this was shared on discord and cross-posted here with permission.
First of all a flashback back to 14x08: Cas making the deal with the Empty:
In the original version I believe The Empty is saying that she will take Cas in a moment when he "gives himself the permission to be happy", they changed it to "when you allow yourself to live a happy life". With our knowledge from 15x18 you can say that Cas wants to life together with Dean, that they have a happy life together.
Confessions Scene: What changed?
1. "One thing I want is something I know I can't have" --> "the one wish I have will never granted"
2. "It's in just saying it" --> "If you understand that, then it's yours"
3. "Knowing you had changed me" --> "My whole life changed"
4. "Don't do this Cas" --> "Please don't do this Cas"
5. "Goodbye Dean" --> "Farewell Dean"
More in Depth-Analysis of a few things
The first thing I noticed is, that they translated "happiness" into "Glück" which rather means "luck" than "happiness.
Another thing: "Weil der eine Wunsch den ich habe mir leider nie gegönnt sein wird" ("the one wish I have, will never granted). I don't really know how to give you the meaning of the word "gönnen" (grant/allow) because to allow something or to grant something means that you need permission from someone. "gönnen" means more that you are letting something happen, that you're pampering (I hope this is the right word) yourself or someone else by "granting" them/yourself that something.
So with "Glück" and "gönnen" it feels like happiness should never be taken for "granted". It is something precious, it's special. If you are happy, you can consider yourself lucky. Because of this, the fact that happiness is so rare and that Castiel only had short-lived life of this happiness makes the sacrifice so much heavier for me.
There is one phrase that really bothers me: "Daddys Werkzeug fürs Grobe"
In the original Cas says to Dean: "You're Daddys blunt instrument" which I would interpret as Dean doing whatever John tells him because of his blind obedience to his Dad.
The translation to "Daddys Werkzeug fürs Grobe" (idek how to translate this, something like: "'Daddys tool for the rough" maybe) which basically means that Dean is doing all the dirty work John doesn't want to do. Like this is so wrong. It is literally no problem to translate "blunt instrument" 1:1 into german, but no they just changed it to something complete different.
Then there is the "I love you"-Scene
Cas saying "Ich liebe dich" ("I love you", if you didn't know) broke my heart. I was so scared they would choose a different translation of "I love you". There is not even a little doubt that this is not romantic. Saying "Ich liebe dich" is something different in german (at least in my opinion). You just don't say this to random people like your best friends or your parents or whatever. You save it for someone special. It is not only a phrase, it's a decisions you make, a decision for your relationship. Saying "Ich liebe dich" for the first time to someone takes your relationship to another level. It screams for "You? -- Me? -- Forever!" you know?
Watching the confessions scene back in November for the first time, hearing Cas saying "I love you" to Dean, for me it felt way different this time. I didn't know if the "I love you" is romantic or platonic. I couldn't believe that it is romantic because this is something WE want for over 10 years, WE fought for this for over 10 years. The Writers crushed our hearts over the years over and over again, building Cas' and Dean's Relationship over all these years but also always crushed our hopes, broke our small Destiel-Hearts over and over again. And now you just gave us a simple "I love you"?
Back in November I was doubting myself. After the episode (4 am in the morrning) I didn't know what to think about this. What even is this? Do I even want this? Do I want to believe this implied a romance between Cas and Dean, like actually on screen? Just so that the Writers/Actors or whoever posts a day later on twitter that it was just a platonic love declaration and our hearts are crushed again. A day or two after the episode, Misha Collins said in a Zoom-Call that it was a romantic declaration of love. And I couldn't believed it. I still had doubts. And now 5 Months later I still sit here sometimes thinking: They made Destiel actually real, they did it. Of course we wanted more, but isn't this better than nothing?
What I wanted to say with this really long paragraph about the english scene is, that I think if I had watched Supernatural only in german, I wouldn't had any doubts after 15x18. Because a german "I love you" is in absolutely no way NOT romantic. It just don't work. So now I am realizing (late I know) yes, destiel is real and I will never doubt this.
TLDR: the german dub is most of the time a literal translation of the original. They changed a few words, left out some phrases, nothing spectecular there. Destiel is canon and we're all happy.
Thanks for coming to my Ted-Talk.

I think you're missing the point with that "J2 being homophobic" discourse. Lots of people are. Or, well, maybe you just haven't heard all that much about it.
In it's core, this isn't about some ship. It's about some things that have been said that were - unintentionally I'm sure, but nonetheless - harmful to queer people.
The question they were asked was basically only "When did Dean know the way Cas loved him was romantic?" Which, seeing as that's confirmed by both the writer of this scene and the actor of Castiel, isn't such an absurd question to ask. Jensen answered it with his first two sentences, it literally could have been that easy. They should have just stopped after this.
Everything that came after was a little messy and it made them seem defensive. There really wasn't a reason for that.
I understand what statement they were trying to make (more specifically Jared in this case), but they missed the point. What came out instead made it sound like Cas loving Dean romantically could only mean that he wanted to have sex with him. Jared really focused on that, that this scene wasn't about wanting to have sex. But no one ever implied that. We know that it wasn't about that. Yet, the implication that love without wanting to have sex with someone can only be platonic, not romantic in nature, seemed to stick.
I've see some people say that Cas couldn't possibly love Dean because he's "junkless". The implication that you must want to (or be able to) have sex with someone to love them romantically is incredibly harmful to people on the asexulaity spectrum (and it's also not true for allosexual people). Romantic love and sexual desire for someone are two things that can and do exist separately from one another.
It sucks how people are dealing with what happend now. And it's not right to attack Jared or Jensen or call them homophobic. I'm sure they're not. But what has been said, how it's been said, was harmful to queer people. It not being intentional unfortunately doesn't undo that.
On a different notion (and I won't get to deep into this now because it's just too much), I'm sure it wouldn't have been like that if Cas had been a woman, even if Dean didn't love him (or in this scenario her) back. Or could we honestly say that people would be dismissing the meaning of Castiel's words and insist to leave them open to interpretation if it had been about a heterosexual relationship? (I'm only talking about Castiel's feelings here, not Dean's!)
I think a lot of the defensiveness comes from the fact that Jensen, who has played this character for 15 years and has always played him as straight, gets called names and criticized for speaking about his character not being queer. He has been called homophobic for speaking about how he played the character, while the writer and Misha just sat back and egged it on, pandered, dangled it like bait and left Jensen to hang when he spoke against it. That's bullshit, no matter who it is.
That being said, reading the transcript of the question, I think if Jared would have stayed out of it, the question wouldn't be so icky? For lack of a better word. I thought Jensen's quote and answer about it was just fine and he did a very good job at explaining himself without seeming like a jackass or anything. Honestly, it was probably the most calm he's been when answering a Destiel question.
Then Jared had to insert himself and make things weird. His "junkless" comment wasn't needed. Him bringing his son into it and going on a whole tangent wasn't needed and I think if he had just kept his mouth shut, there wouldn't have been a problem. But we all know that Jared can't stand having the spotlight on someone else.
I don't want to get into a discourse about "If Cas was a woman!" because it's just going to cause problems. Obviously, we don't know what would have happened if Cas was a woman because he wasn't. Maybe it would be the same, maybe it wouldn't, but trying to start up a big discussion about it is pointless and just causes arguments.
I hope I didn't come off as too harsh or rude, I'm just very tired of shippers and watching Jensen (and other fans, actors, etc.) getting ripped to shreds and accused of things because they don't "stan" a ship.

I love sam ok, I do. But sometimes I wish he tried to understand dean a bit more. Dean loved sam more than anything, because sam was given to him to raise. Literally dean’s entire identity growing up was sam’s protector. & sam just comes off as insensitive about it, especially in the beginning. In the pilot, he talked about how john gave him a gun at 9, & he wasn’t given a normal childhood. But dean was the only reason sam held that gun at 9 & not before. (1)
He’s the only reason sam even had a smidgeon of a childhood. By giving up his own to play mom dad n guardian. Not to say that sam was undeserving of that love, or that he should’ve loved dean more, because their love for each other was unhealthy because of all the codependency. But more like dean deserved to be loved as much as dean loved sam. Maybe that’s why I loved destiel (platonic or romantic). (2)
Because for once, there was someone who loved dean as much as he loved other people. Who loved him the way he deserved: wholeheartedly and unconditionally. Selfishly yet selflessly. & with it, came the chance for dean to learn to love another without the burden of responsibility. He loved cas that much without expectation, without being ordered, or blood relations. Cas was the family he chose (3)
-
sometimes i wonder if i should just let people submit posts to me but anyway you’ve got a point, although i think sam could never truly understand what dean went through to raise him, because he never had to go through that himself. i think that skewed perspective is actually quite realistic, even if we don’t necessarily like it, because it makes sam who he is. that’s not to say sam didn’t become more understanding or sympathetic of dean through the years, because he did, but you’re right and it would have been nice to see sam somehow being placed in dean’s shoes for even, like, one (1) day.
i also think this is part of why dean’s relationship with cas is so different from sam’s friendship with cas...like, dean and cas share that understanding of having a commanding parent who expected them to care for someone else/other people more than they cared for themselves. there’s shared trauma, there, and a shared sense of being a soldier (which has been referenced multiple times w/i canon) which i think adds to their dynamic, whereas sam and cas aren’t explored nearly as much, because i think that--even though they are also best friends--sam can’t even get an inkling as to what cas has lived through with the expectations of God on his shoulders and constantly following orders. sam never had to go through that, and obviously held high expectations when he first found out angels were real and just...his perception of cas, at the beginning, was totally skewed.
“profound bond” really hits different with almost any angle you take, but by comparing it to sam and cas’ relationship it’s like a whole other level entirely

"if Destiel wasn't on the cards, why is it Canon" u mean that unrequited love confession from Cas? Lmao. Jensen is literally homophobic yall trying to push him into Destiel ain't for the sake of representation its for the sake of you own little MLM fetish ship. Two straight actors ain't good gay rep. Even if Destiel was requited by Dean. Again, stop being a loser.
Hi! I'm actually glad you came to my ask box, it gives me an excuse to try and clear up some of these misconceptions.
So first of all, we don't technically know if it's unrequited. There is a lot of tinhatting involved in Destiel shipping, but there is also some solid evidence behind it. I personally believe that Dean returns Castiel’s confession, but didn’t have time to react to it. (I wouldn’t know what to do if my best friend of twelve years told me they made a deal with the Empty, was about to die, loved me, his love for me is the reason he’s about to die, and then continued to tell me that everything I believed about myself is wrong.) Some people also believe that Dean may have thought that if he didn’t say anything, the Empty wouldn’t come. Others believe that he did say something, but it was cut. (Which actually isn’t as far fetched as it sounds, considering scripts are sent to dubbing companies ahead of time and he reciprocated in almost every Latin American dub, as well as in French and Italian. And before you claim that there was a “rogue translator”, I must say that the script and dub has to go through very many heads before it is aired, so practically the entire company would have to be in on it. There are also a lot of strange jump cuts in the scene.) People have their personal headcanons, and you have yours! That’s perfectly fine, though anonymously telling me, and another awesome human being, that I’m a loser for having my headcanon is actually incredibly coward-like, presumptuous, and disrespectful.
So while Dean didn’t tell Cas he loved him in the English version, (Though I don’t know why that’s the only one that matters, considering only 13% of the world speaks it.) That doesn’t mean it’s not canon however, just unconfirmed on one side. (So your previous statement, “Destiel was never on the cards. Lol.”, is both grammatically incorrect and false.)
Your next statement, however, is the one that rubs me the wrong way. Jensen Ackles is not homophobic. I’ll link a few posts below that completely disprove this, but just because you don’t ship a queer ship, doesn’t make you homophobic. There’s also his infamous gay Aunt, and in my experience of homophobic-people-interacting-with-their-gay-family-members, (which is sadly a good enough amount to have a proper viewpoint), they don’t usual act as comfortable and open as Jensen and Aunt Darla, (and her wife!) are with eachother.
-Twitter thread of him being comfortable with queer peeps.
-CW’s “Dare to Defy” Campaign. (This movement is still very important, but the words don't hold as much weight to me personally after seeing what they did in the finale.)
-Tumblr post with Jensen being supportive of queer peeps. (He's even raised money for people in the LGBTQIA+ community anon. A homophobic person does not do that.)
You also have to take into consideration how comfortable he is with his male friends. I’m not saying he himself is apart of the LGBTQIA+ community, but there are countless videos and pictures of him being comfortable with both Jared and Misha, and that’s something homophobic people tend to stay away from. Once again, this doesn’t mean he himself is queer, and obviously people can love each other platonically! But people who are super religious and stead fast against gay people, usually go out of their way to not be seen as gay. And it’s clear it doesn’t bother J2M at all.
Jensen has also, in recent years, made jokes about Destiel. My favorite one is probably the, “Dean has no taste, clearly.” You can find that here because it genuinely makes my day. And if he was truely homophobic, I doubt he would be comfortable with things like this, as well as Jared constantly poking fun at him about both Misha and Destiel. (He would have at least pulled Jared aside privately and asked him nicely not to do that anymore. There are ways of doing this without seeming homophobic, and in reverse, just because he doesn’t want someone to make jokes like that doesn’t make him homophobic.) Third, I personally want Destiel to be canon because A, having two famous and main characters on a long-running Sci-Fi show, that was originally intended to be incredibly heterosexual, come out as queer would be good representation. People need to see that it’s okay to not be straight. Queer people have been oppressed for thousands of years, so being able to see themselves in their favorite show and characters is so powerful. Especially if these characters live long, happy lives together. And I argue that the actors don’t have to be gay themselves to play a gay character. People cross the borders on gender, sex, age, and nationality all the time. Why should sexual orientation be any different? And the B, because it's my otp. Simple as that.
And I don’t speak for the entire Destiel community, just as you don’t speak for the entire community of people who don’t ship them, but I personally don’t fetishize m|m. I actually get no enjoyment out of reading smut, and actively avoid it. I ship them because they have great chemistry, an interesting and often romantic storyline, and they obviously care about each other very much. Their gender has no impact on that. I ship w|w couples, (I actually wish there were more of them, because having my own representation is important to me), as well as heterosexual and nonbinary ones too.
So you can call me a loser anon, and honestly, I’ll embrace it. But I’m not the one coming into people’s ask boxes and hating on them, just because they want to ship two awesome people. I don’t judge you for what you ship, so I ask you return the favor. (But feel free to come talk to me again about anything else.) And since you seem to be having a bad day and taking it out on others, here's a gif for you!

And if anyone wants to respectfully add anything to this post, go ahead!

I have to be honest, it bothers me a bit how much the anti faction of the fandom seems to focus on the "unrequited" angle. For Wincest shippers and non-shippers who've been burned by the Hellers and want no part of their corner of fandom, there's nothing to lose by saying Cas is in romantic love with Dean but Dean doesn't feel the same way. But those of us who are on the same side as y'all but ship Cas with someone else get caught in the crossfire there. It's not canon that Cas loved Dean romantically, and I don't think we should make it any easier for Hellers to claim it is.
I can understand that viewpoint.  I think it probably comes down to not wanting to argue over something that I have a hard time as seeing as anything but intentionally ambiguous?
Berens went out of his way to write that scene with Cas dismissing his other relationships in favor of tongue-bathing Dean.  I mean, I like Dean getting praise as much as the next Dean girl, but man, not when it comes out of fucking nowhere and is grossly contradicted by the characters’ shown relationship.  Now, I do think it was nothing more than a pathetically dumb and doomed attempt to throw those shippers a bone to try and keep them from tantruming over the finale that the general audience and the rest of us could easily ignore.  But I can legitimately see it as intentional for a given value of intent to placate those shippers.  However, Cas does say just “love” yet again rather than the far less ambiguous “in love”.  As Jensen purportedly said, he is an angel whose emotions may not necessarily fit within the same confines of what a human’s experiences of emotions are.  What “true happiness” he “can’t have”?  It could be the opportunity to live a life with those individuals and the world he cares about not in constant danger of destruction, perhaps even happy for once!  It could be a platonic relationship like the one Sam & Dean have with each other that is so all-encompassing it has no room for anyone else at the same level and is so unbreakable despite everything they’ve been through together and sometimes even put each other through.  It could be any number of other things he discovered it was possible to want through meeting and working with Dean and subsequently breaking free of heaven’s cycle of brainwashing him into compliance.  So no, Castiel’s speech is intentionally not canonically romantic, because if they wanted it to be unambiguously canon, it literally would have taken nothing more than that one extra word of “in”.
Arguing that back and forth, when it will inevitably get into territory like the intent of hacks like Berens and commentary from trolling baiters like MIsha, though?  It easily becomes pretty circular and muddy.  On the other hand, there is really no legitimate room to argue that even if Cas’ intent WAS romantic?  That doesn’t make it a canon relationship, because Dean doesn’t reciprocate (not onscreen and explicitly not in the script directions).  So I get why it’s become an accepted shortcut, as well as why that is annoying to fans who would prefer no one cede even theoretical ground on the subject.

everyone is making jokes about how dean looks like a stale loaf of bread during this scene while Cas is so emotional and putting his all into this confession and they’re hilarious and im enjoying them and all but like.
could you imagine being Dean in that situation. Like you’re standing there in that situation, where Death is literally pounding on the door outside, and your best friend of Eleven (11) years is about to turn himself into a fucking suicide bomb, the same thing he yelled at you for letting Jack do, saying it’s not right and he should have the right to live his life.
and like. Lets say Dean doesn’t feel the same way (he does obviously) but for the sake of this lets say he doesn’t romantically love Cas. He still DOES love him platonically, at least in some way. They’ve been best friends for ELEVEN YEARS, he considers Castiel FAMILY, he literally said it in the episode before this that Cas is family.
Dean loves Cas as much as he loves Sam, he’d do anything for him the way he already did do everything for Sam, Died for him (end of season 3) Lived for him (end of season 5)
HE WENT. TO PURGATORY WITH CAS (end of season 7) AND WHEN HE FINALLY FOUND HIM. HE SAID “i prayed to you, every night.” and CAS REPLIED “i heard.” LIKE WHAT THE FUCK
now imagine you’re Dean, and you’re standing there with this man you’ve been So Close with for over a DECADE and he’s telling you this shit, that you hate yourself, you think all of these bad things about yourself and you’re fucking WRONG you’re so much more than that hate you think you’re filled with.
You’re filled with love, and your actions aren’t fueled by hatred and rage like you think they are, they’re filled with love, you’re loyal and admirable and that’s something you should know, and be Proud of.
That this Angel that came to earth with this hatred for humans, an angel that was always a rule follower, did everything by the book, and did everything for God
You got him to turn his back on God and his own kind for Humanity, you got him to Love Humanity. You Changed him.
and he loves you
ID LOOK LIKE A FUCKING STALE LOAF OF BREAD TOO
