You wouldn’t call yourself a marijuana junkie but it was one of the things you would do once in a long while that could help to mellow you out with the anxieties and disturbing memories you had from working in Public Safety. So you hoped that it could do the same for your boyfriend.

You could only assume that he would be open to trying it, since he was already a heavy smoker. Either that or he would start lecturing you how someone of your position and in your line of work shouldn’t be dealing with illegal substances that weren’t allowed in the country.

So when Denji and Power had fallen asleep after dinner, you took the chance to fetch the item you had bought from the dealer at Kabukicho from your bag, sliding it onto the coffee table in the living room where Aki was sat at, a can of beer in hand.

“What’s this?” he asked as he eyed the suspicious looking ziplock bag filled with what looked like dried tea leaves. To Aki at least. But then again he knew what the shape of tea leaves looked like and the ones in the bag you were showing him definitely did not resemble anything like that.

“It’s, something to help calm our nerves down for a bit. It’s marijuana.” you told him, eyeing him carefully, hoping he wouldn’t give a reaction that would wake up the other two.

He doesn’t look up at you as he picks up the medium sized plastic bag, bringing it up to closely inspect it. “Where did you get it?” he asked, looking up at you with an unreadable expression.

“Just some guy who distributes this kind of stuff in Kabukicho.” you told him, as you stood rocking back and forth on the heels of your feet from the beside him.

Aki remained silent in contemplation. He didn’t know much about marijuana other than it being a popular drug and topic mentioned in movies and music.

For a second you almost assumed he didn’t like the idea of it, but instead of giving you a lecture on how something like this shouldn’t be in the house like you expected him to he hummed deeply saying, “I guess I wouldn’t mind trying it out once to see if it can help minimize the stress I’ve been feeling lately.”

Honestly I tried watching the first episode of chainsaw man but felt disgusted that our "protagonist" only cares about boobies.. like I'm sure he gets better later on but I just couldn't watch another anime that provides us a superficial protagonist, even if he changes as time goes on.. honestly that's why I liked opm, mp100 and dorohedoro so much, it's because you get what you get and it's wholesome. I really wanted to like the show since practically everyone talks about it, any idea how to get past that awful start?

Hi! I'm glad you decided to share your honest thoughts about csm. I know what you are talking about and believe me I understand! I really don't like the kind of shonen protagonists that are just perverts for the sake of comedy and/or fanservice. BUT don't be fooled, and please be patient, because the story would soon prove that Denji is not the case. Denji's motivations are kinda sad, he's been through the worst things in life and he's basically an animal of instinct at one point (always being compared to a dog), looking to satisfy basic needs, as someone who's been denied of them his whole life. These are fighting, fleeing, feeding aaaand ...*fornicating*. He also claims, many times, that he doesn't have greater goals in life. How I wish his situation gets better as the series progresses (haven't read it all yet), althought he is probably still a perv all the way through I really feel it's justifiable and I learned to love him so much! Denji likes pretty girls and he's allowed to have his lustful thoughts as any of us might have! However... I know he's very respectful and would never make a move without consent, that's a really good cuality of his. AAHH Denji deserves good things only.

Hope this helps you find enough motivation to give him a chance!

the thing about it is like…scully loves samantha in so many different ways. she has to, first and foremost, by nature of loving mulder the way she does. it comes with the territory. it’s a package deal: mulder and his trailing ghost, mulder and his quest, mulder and what “matters.” there’s no separation. he’s 3 people at all times: the man in front of her, the one in bellefleur, the little boy from the pictures with his baby sister on his back. there are no photos of mulder without samantha, none taken without her, none taken after her. and he tells scully why: “i’m still walking into that room. every day of my life.”

and i guess that scully doesn’t have to love her, but she does, because she loves that man in bellefleur who sat down and told her what matters to him. she also loves her job. she loves the work that they do. she loves being “on the side of the victim,” and chasing monsters, making discoveries. she’s cognizant and respectful of what’s at the center. there is a reason that they do this every day, and it isn’t because they get a kick out of little green men. she’s protective, she really doesn’t mess around, not when it’s this important. as early as miracle man in season one, every time anyone mentions samantha, she’s standing up. she’s on edge, she’s controlling. this is important, but it’s not to everyone.

they’re the same age. they were taken by the same people. endured the same tests. reading samantha’s diary, listening to her talk about how much she hated it, the way scully cried…she doesn’t remember this (or maybe she does) but penny northern told her once that she held her while she cried, after the tests. who held this little girl, just writing in her journal that she wanted her brother?

scully wrote a journal like that too, once, saved her testimony for that same person. in closure the way that she tells mulder to go get some sleep, and she keeps looking. when she finds the police report she tells him: “i got it, mulder. i couldn’t believe it when i saw it. it was like it was looking for me.”

she’s guided, just like missy guides. these sisters linger.

as the years go on, bill dies, then tena. csm is out hiding with the anasazis, or whatever he deems priority. there’s no one else there who knows, but scully does. scully knows that they spent their summers playing baseball. they argued over the television, called each other names. she broke her collarbone on the swing, she was 6. it’s forever his turn on their last board game.

“not fox. mulder.” she corrected her mother with a smile, she knows there’s one person who calls him that. (and still does, screaming in his head, in his dreams).

to most everyone else, samantha is a name in a file, a statistic in a project. but “dana k. scully” is 3 shelves down.

she’s a picture in a frame, a ghost in his head. words on tattered paper. she’s scully’s babies’ angel aunt, one of two, and jackson has her hair. maybe baby2 her eyes, or her smile.

scully is just as haunted, as mulder is, and she’s been closer than he could ever get. she understands more. but when it was her turn, someone held her, and she came back to a person that samantha could only write about. so they chase ghosts forever and ever, because they deserve to be sought.

Sharing this lovely article about Kaku-sensei where he basically talks about his influences(lots of horror and mangakas such as Kentaro Miura, Junji Ito, and even CSM's Fujimoto-sensei! he seems friends with him too). He also talks about how he made the characters of Sagirin and Gabimaru where he intentionally wanted them to be unique(me: yes sensei! I whole heatedly agree that you delivered in this one :')). There's also more on the creative process of the series!

This whole interview is definitely a treat to fans/stans of Hell's Paradise. Please give it a read! u.u

Kaku: (About the art mediums he used) I used a combination of Copic markers and acrylic paint for volumes one through five of Hell's Paradise. Before that, I used only Copics. When working analog, you get to enjoy periodically changing what materials you use. Since Jigokuraku Kaitai Shinsho (fan book published in 2021), I've used a combination of Copics and acrylic. I'll use different paper when working with watercolors and even change up my materials if it's fun. Fun is more important to me than efficiency when it comes to materials.

Kaku: (about his OG draft on the series) I don't often start with the setting. For this work, I started with "several pairs of people whose interests aren't aligned are thrown into an enclosed space and forced to work together." That's the framework. In the very beginning, the story was about children sent to a youth detention center and the lawyers fighting for them. From there, through discussions with my editor, we dropped that setting but kept the framework and applied different characters to it. We kept the framework because I've always liked the way human relationships change and wanted to write a story about it.

Kaku: (About our duo Sagirin and Gabimaru!) This is something I imagined from the start of publication. Both Gabimaru and Sagiri have the same values as someone living in the 2020s. This is also the reason the story is set in the distant past during the late Edo period. The people of that time had totally different ideas about ethics and human rights. Despite condemned criminals and executioners being difficult characters to empathize with, if they share our perspective, then we feel close to them, and they stand out as unique characters in an Edo Period setting. From the very start, I felt that made Gabimaru and Sagiri unique.

Kaku: Yes! "The characters take on a life of their own." When I was a newbie, whenever that phrase came up in interviews with manga artists, I thought, "That can't be possible! After all, you made those characters!" (Laughs) But now I think that really is what happens. In fact, it's more interesting when it does.

- 22 USD for around 2k words for 1 character x reader. I may or may not go under or over around 150 words.

- 27 USD for around 2k words for 2 characters x reader. I may or may not go under or over 150 words.

- Price goes up by 5 USD per 500 words (so if you want a 3k long fic with 1 character it will be $32). This is negotiable tho, so always talk to me about it.

Rules:

1. I take payments via PayPal or Venmo. Message me privately if you are interested in commissioning me. Payment is due before I deliver the fic, and I don’t require a downpayment. However, you will not get the fic until I have been paid.

2. I will write almost anything. There are few things I am uncomfortable writing, and I will let you know up front if I do not feel comfortable fulfilling your request.

On Giving AFO the Chainsaw Man Treatment

Below the cut, find a pair of asks about the chances of AFO's threat being resolved in a similar way as Chainsaw Man deals with its Act I villain. I'm not planning to actually discuss that CSM resolution, but even a passing description of it represents a major spoiler to anyone who's only following the anime, so hit the jump only if that's not an issue for you.

I gotta say, anons, if anyone in this series has to get age-reversed for a do-over, my first choice would be AFO.

Forgive me; I'm going to talk a lot about the widespread Age-Reversed Shigaraki prediction below. I know you didn't bring up Shigaraki at all—for all I know, you hate that theory just as much as I do!—but most of my familiarity with Baby!AFO is through that filter, so it's through that filter my answer comes. But I don't think either character should get age-reversed, which I'll get to in the latter half of this post. Please just skip to the next bold header if you don't want to read me comparing the two.

Better AFO Than Shigaraki:

So like, as far as I'm aware, the general assumption is that if Shigaraki (the only other candidate for whom reversion to infancy is ever proposed) is rewound to an infant, he’ll truly be an infant, with his memories wiped clean. And this, it's implied, will give him some kind of moral clean slate whereby the person who committed all the many, many crimes Shigaraki has committed will have “died” and therefore be beyond punishment.

If that would be morally acceptable for Shigaraki Tomura—arguing that the person who caused all that harm and death doesn’t exist anymore—why would it not be morally acceptable for AFO? If the people who lost homes and loved ones to Shigaraki would be expected to just let bygones be bygones because That Is A Child, why would the same not be true of those AFO hurt?

Of course, the easy answer is that Shigaraki is himself a victim of AFO, whereas AFO is not—so far as we know—the victim of anyone. Thus, Shigaraki is perceived to be deserving of a second chance, while AFO is not. But if the karma gets wiped clean regardless—if you can make AFO a better person instead of killing him, give him a chance to grow up as a person who will put good into the world instead of bad—I don’t see the two as being all that different.

If anything, I think it’s a better answer for AFO than it is for Shigaraki. Narratively speaking, Shigaraki is a product of Hero Society’s failures as much as he is AFO’s upbringing, so addressing those failures is every bit as important as saving him from AFO for the challenge he presents to feel adequately resolved. AFO, conversely, isn’t challenging a bunch of societal mores,[1] so I feel like the story giving him a do-over wouldn’t feel like it was trying to sneakily evade answering that challenge by raising him up as a good little law-abiding, paradigm-accepting citizen.

Also, the heroes having to deal with Baby!AFO is much, much funnier than them having to deal with Sweet Blameless Tenko. As someone who staunchly believes that All Might has done sweet fuck-all to earn some kind of saccharine Dad Might Raises Baby Tenko ending, I would far rather see him having to navigate the fraught waters of raising the innocent child version of his lineage’s archenemy.

It Won't Be Either of Them, Though:

All that said, I think it’s going to be a moot point regardless because Ujiko’s little Rewind serum is clearly not working on AFO’s memories, nor was the raw version, so to speak, ever shown to affect Deku or Mirio’s. Baby!AFO with his memories intact doesn’t solve the problem AFO presents at all, any more than it would for Baby!Shigaraki. At best, it might reduce the raw physical threat they pose, but if their mentality is unchanged, it’s just kicking the problem down the line for a decade or two.

Even setting the memory issue aside, though, AFO has been pretty clear that the serum has put him on a timer. He’s fretting about getting to Shigaraki because there’s something he needs to do before he, like Eri’s father,[2] gets Rewound to nonexistence. I suppose there are ways around this—having Erasure work on the serum’s ongoing effect, having the serum just run out of efficacy before it can eat through AFO’s prodigious lifespan, etc.—but from the current setup, I don’t think a Nayuta-style resolution to AFO is on the table.

And It Shouldn't Be:

And that's just as well. While I think Baby!AFO would be funny, I can really only say that because AFO as we have him here in the endgame is so two-dimensional that he barely registers as having an identity to lose to the ego death of reversion to infancy.

That ego death is why I don't much care for resolutions that involve returning a villain to infancy. Usually, when I see that plot, the unspoken reasoning runs that the affected character had their life and innocence stolen from them, and thus they deserve a second chance at being happy and having a normal childhood. Maybe that's a comforting thought for some people, and I wish those people well of it.

To me, though, it smacks unpleasantly of rhetoric that says that once someone has been hurt enough, scarred enough, changed enough by their suffering, they might as well just die and start over because they're too damaged to ever find happiness again, so why bother trying? I am Extremely Not Here for that message.[3]

Now, there's probably a whole different discussion to be had about how that plot reads symbolically when the author/readers believe in reincarnation. I have no idea where Horikoshi falls on that in the Shinto/Buddhism spectrum most of Japan occupies. Still, I don't know that it can rightly be called reincarnation, if the person has to grow up with the exact same name they had before and is probably being raised by someone who remembers everything they did under that name previously and is always going to have half an eye on making sure they don't grow up the same way again. That's a pretty lousy "new life," isn't it?

IRL subtext aside, I'm also against the idea because, as I mentioned earlier, Magically A Baby Again is too easily used as an end run around having to meaningfully address a character's anger, trauma, wickedness, or whatever motivation is so insurmountable that it can only be defeated by completely obliviating it. That definitely shouldn't happen to Shigaraki, but even with AFO, it feels like it would serve the same function as a Disney Falling Death: remove the villain's menace without dirtying your heroes' sparkling clean hands with the moral responsibility for a death.

------------------ FOOTNOTES ------------------ 1: Narratively speaking, I mean. Obviously, as The Supervillain Of All Time, AFO challenges all kinds of societal mores! But the reader isn’t encouraged to think of those challenges as legitimate the way they are with Shigaraki.

2: And it only just occurred to me in writing this, if Eri’s quirk requires the consumption of her horn to power the Rewind effect, and we saw it go from Very Large to Tiny Nub just in taking six months off Mirio, what on earth is the explanation for her Rewinding her father out of existence?

3: This is also why I've got zero time for the whole idea that "Shigaraki Tomura" has no meaningful existence of his own; that the thing going by that name is just fifteen years of AFO's Grooming caked on top of an inner perfectly innocent, perfectly preserved, Shimura Tenko.

rereading part 2 thoughts (part 2)

For all that Yuko is a crazy fangirl using a hero to justify her want for blood, i kinda like that she's not far off in that "Chainsaw Man kills bad guys" without nuance.

Also her saying the reality of CSM going to her school disappointing because he doesn't stop bullies, only devils. How would a Denji like that even look like, considering he... Doesn't have a solid grasp in human morality conventions...

Those panels where the bubble is behind the window... So cool

It's probably just a japanese school clothes convention (?) but i like how the devil hunters look like Jotaro. I think they are organized in a way that makes sense, if they were dealing with a weaker devil they could've had a chance...

This type of club should be illegal, then again, with so many deaths, i guess it's logical that people just don't know how to regulate things like teenagers wanting to be heros

Gives more weight to the theory that Yoshida's organization wants to make people avoid seeing devils in a more positive light or people think making contracts with devils is good

Btw why is the Justice Devil preying on so many kids? First the class prez, now Yuko. It seems as if its looking for something, maybe Justice also wanted to fight Chainsaw Man...

But i don't want to analyze justice too much as a concept, because Fujimoto and me come from two totally different cultures.... Also Fujimoto just does whatever anyway, like it's more about the vibe than a deep set philosophy. Then again Makima was pure domination in every sense of the world, so we shouldn't underestimate this story

It takes a long time for me to open up on people and I’m really selective about who I let in since I been betrayed before. I tend to hide my feelings and struggle because no one understands it and I feel like I don’t matter since I been ignored. Ella and I had a discussion about the latest CSM chapter and some speculations related to the warnings/rules Denji had mentioned. The first two could be related to common courtesy, but somehow I couldn't help but think that there could be something deeper/hidden in those rules... And the "thief" thing could be a subconscious manifestation from the control devil that it feels threatened that their "dog" could be taken away.

(I'm trying to make this as vague as I can to not spoil too much lol)

Of course OF COURSE! Ever since I started reading this manga, I never once again let those tiny hints slip through my head. I definitely feel like there's some deeper meaning of those 3 rules he mentioned.

The first two might look like a common courtesy, which is true. But! If they are really just a common thing, he shouldn't have felt the need to warn Asa about it, right? Because it's something people should already know. So, just like you said, I also think there are hidden "something" beneath those rules. What if!!! They keep something inside those other apartments room? This is the control devil we talk about! (ngl she still gives me chill sometimes, despite her cute figure 😭)

And I swear, something not so pleasant settled inside my guts when I saw this panel! (The parallel!!!!!)

But I also hope Nayuta wouldn't be the next Makima though, like please let her have a sincere and genuine feeling (preferably familial) towards Denji! All I want is for him to have a normal, leisure life with those he values 😭🙏🏻

And there's things that still remain a question for me, for example, Angel devil once said that if a devil died in hell, they'd reborn in this world. Which mean, the control devil is already died in hell right? So there's definitely "someone" who's stronger than control devil? Though I'm not really sure how long the time skip was before the control devil reborn. It felt like, really in a flash then BOOM we got Nayuta!

I hope it'd be explained later!

The one where... Mulder & Scully 2.0 pull Mulder & Scully onto a terrorism case to try to communicate with a comatose patient.

Best: If you ignore what they’re talking about (because it’s nonsense) and just focus on Mulder and Scully walking hand in hand through a sunny field smiling at each other it’s a lovely final scene.

Worst: The rest of this episode is bullshit. The bigotry and Islamophobia expressed by characters throughout the episode and inherent in the terrorism case is disgusting. I think the show thinks it’s condemning hatred but it’s just perpetuating stereotypes.

Scully: Nobody [down here] but the FBI’s most unwanted. I’ve been waiting twenty-three years to say that. This was cute, use it in another, better episode please. (Also that means that they’re counting from 1993 not 1992)

What the hell was CC going for with these cheap Mulder and Scully knockoffs Miller and Einstein? Was it supposed to be funny? All it shows me is that he got really lucky the first time around. A few little tweaks and different actors and the believer-skeptic dynamic is unbearable.

On paper Agent Einstein is Scully - a short, red-headed, skeptical medical doctor - but Scully was never an asshole. Einstein’s so unpleasant. From the beginning Scully was intrigued by the X-Files, and she respected the journey even as she pushed Mulder for proof of his outrageous theories.

Agent Miller on the other hand just seems like a kind of boring mild-mannered agent who happens to think the X-Files are cool. I’m sure he’s a fine agent but I’m not interested in watching any more of him.

Einstein’s comment about how Scully must be in love with Mulder otherwise why would she be down there pisses me off. I mean, honestly, accurate. But coming from this character who’s met her once for 5 minutes it’s so dismissive of Scully’s agency and personal and professional interest in the X-Files.

Why is Scully in a hotel room when she calls Miller? Or does she just have a really generic looking bedroom wherever she’s living that’s not the Unremarkable House 🤔

The horrifying secondhand embarrassment of having to witness Mulder’s cowboy “hallucination”… The dancing 🙈 Mulder getting whipped by Einstein and CSM 🙈 I don’t want to see any of this!

We brought the Lone Gunmen back for this? 🙄 Bet the show wishes they hadn’t killed them off for no reason in season 9.

I’ll let someone better equipped in religion dig into Mulder’s vision of Muslim characters in the Christian pieta pose…

So… was it a placebo or not? Because apparently Mulder’s vision was real? I don’t get it, but I don’t really want to put any more thought into it.

Thank goodness I never have to watch this episode again, I can just watch clips of Scully smiling more than she has in the past 23 years as she strolls the fields with Mulder 🥰

Choujin X: Chapter 1

So I'm really excited to read more of Sui Ishida's newest manga, and I'm arriving just in time for the front seats! I don't want to let this pass without writing down my thoughts on the first chapter and possibly look at it in the future as the story progresses. You can read it here:

Having said that, please note there will be spoilers ahead!

Tomato Girl

The chapter starts with this cute little girl with that native(?) farmer-like hat, who supposedly grows big fruits (it's huge in Japan, look it up!). I think she will also be a main character since she's the first person we see. From this point I'll call her Tomato Girl. She is obviously from a rural area and is a farmer. We see her motivation is money (and that big dog... which, I think we will see in the future lol). She also wants to marry a "handsome goldilocks hubbie", lol. Wonder if this means she's going to be a love interest of the other cast? She also wants to have 9 kids. Naki and Miza, is that you?! Lol. So here, we have a girl with lofty aspirations! We shall see if any of this will happen or if it will change or if she's lying!

Also an observation - Tomato Girl is also close with her granddad, since she said she's going to the contest in lieu of her granddad (whose back was hurt). She obviously has this strong personality, standing up to the creepy bad guy, who was going to hit the old lady.

Bad Guy

The Bad Guy (since this guy doesn't have a name yet) is obviously a terrorist-for-hire. Also seems to be obsessed with beauty and elegance. I would guess his power lies in blowing things up?

I think, though, that Tomato Girl is a choujin herself, considering she didn't immediately get blown away. Plus, Bad Guy was on fire, and so was she. So, it doesn't necessarily mean Tomato Girl is already dead. She also seems to be reaching out to the Bad Guy as that scene ends.

It's later revealed that despite the plane crash, there were 200 survivors. Hmmmmmmm. Maybe they were turned into choujins?Only the hull was burned but the frame wasn't.

Tokio Kurohara and Azuma Higashi

Yes, the MC! He's notices the plane catching fire. Then, for some reason, Tokio's teacher (Ms. Bazonkas) has a weird voluptuous design. BUT, I think there's something afoot there. She might actually also be a choujin. Possibly a mentor role for Tokio? She seems to be very knowledgeable.

Anyway, going back to Tokio. He's introduced as a sixteen-year-old high school sophomore from Tsuru High. Like any high school kid, he finds studying math to be useless. We're also shown that lives in a district which has destroyed buildings. Possibly dystopian future?

We next find a girl getting harassed by a Mohawk guy and his 2 honchos. Tokio calls for someone, turns out to be Azuma. I just thought it's funny how he called for Azuma, he sounds like a police officer. Haha. But right after, Azuma is introduced, flying from a building.. a very dramatic, heroic entrance. He kinda looks like a hybrid of Haise and Armin from AOT for me. Haha. He's so cute and tiny but he's strong and is apparently the town hero. He breaks the arm of the thug, which Tokio thinks is going too far.

The girl seems to be a pretty girl, and I think she will play a role later on. She's a lot older than them, since she said she's going to an interview. She will possibly a love interest or a villain, but I think more of the latter. I just read CSM so I'm wary of pretty girls lol. Anyway, I think there's something there to link her with Azuma, considering, Azuma introduces both Azuma and Tokio but she only seems to thank or acknowledge Azuma. Tokio even says "don't mention it" even if the girl didn't even thank him, lol.

Azuma and Tokio talk about the plane crash, and it's revealed that choujins seem to abuse their power, and that the attack is kinda normal. We look at their hometown which is really wrecked. Buildings are dilapitated in an abnormal manner -- one building looks like it was done in with a circular force... They live in Yamato Prefecture which is described as an ordinary, self-governed prefecture with some areas partially destroyed. Wonder what self-governed means, but my guess is that it's kinda like a state and the national government is different altogether.

Roly-Poly

Well I never really thought of pill bugs or rolly pollies until I read this. Azuma talks about how roly polies roll around in dry areas and when they find a damp rock, they hide under it. He questions if the roly polies like damp places. And Azuma wonders if choujins are anything like roly-polies. Tokio is confused, so am I. I'm not going to make solid convictions what he means by it, but I think... what Azuma is driving at is that, roly polies and choujins DON'T like damp places. I don't know, I have no reason for this, it's just a guess. We'll see what Azuma means eventually. Haha.

It also appears that choujins are generally bad guys, since Azuma wonders why they don't use their power for good. Maybe something about being a choujin corrupts? Just a guess based on the succeeding events.

They end their conversation with Azuma thinking if he can help with the plane crash. Tokio comments, "seems noble of you" and Azuma says, "it's just a habit". Wonder if Tokio finds Azuma pretentious or if he's genuinely impressed. Azuma's answer is also quite concerning, "just a habit", a question arises if he's sincere in helping in the first place.

The Mohawk Guy

So this guy is supposed to be a funny, evil villain, now bent on exacting revenge from Azuma. Then, a guy (possibly gay guy because he is wearing a lipstick?) with a briefcase offers him an injection.

Tokio's Family

So Tokio has a bigger sister and a dad who seems to be very quiet. Not sure if that's their dad though, it wasn't clear. It's possible they don't have parents anymore and that guy is just an associate. Anyway, it appears that the sister pays Tokio's tuition and she's the breadwinner.

Tokio and his sister talk about Azuma. Azuma is apparently very smart, very athletic (proficient in judo and karate), girls love him, and that his dad is a big shot in the police. The sister questions why Tokio is so proud, and Tokio funnily admits that it's because he feels popular because Azuma is popular. A leech!

Vulture

I just finished re-reading Tokyo Ghoul and :re, and I was blown away by Ishida's art and story. To say I love Kaneki is an understatement. I think I'm going to love Tokio too! I also want to discuss the cover.

So it appears that the cover is the Tokio with an image of a vulture. Tokio is naked and it feels like the vulture is seducing him. From here, I get the vibe that Tokio might be corrupted by the power. "It's something of an affliction" is a dead giveaway. It feels like becoming a choujin or superhuman also corrupts, in a way?

Also since, there seems to be a commentary on the negative view on vultures being scavengers or "steals prey". (Though TBH I always thought vultures wait around for the predator to finish eating and then it eats the scraps??)

On the other hand, Azuma, Tokio's best friend who's mighty strong and brave (almost to a fault), is viewed as a lion by his peers. Also, an uncanny observation is the when Tokio cries about while sitting on the floor, above him is a hyena. Hyenas are known to prey on the carcasses of lions' prey.

It's almost uncanny when Tokio himself says, "I can be a lion too". But Azuma makes Tokio feel better by telling him that buzzards can fly higher than any bird -- telling Tokio to focus on the strength

But even if Tokio admires Azuma, Tokio thinks of telling Azuma when he's going too far. I think this comes from a place of concern. But maybe secretly he's also jealous?

Tokio also even tells Azuma that maybe they should hold hands so Tokio can be more like Azuma, implying that Tokio wants to be like Azuma.

Praying Mantis

Just before Flexi Choujin attacks, Tokio mentions that he bought an insect guidebook and was about to say a factoid about praying mantis near water. I wonder what Tokio was about to say? A search on the internet about praying mantis and water shows this disgusting video of a parasite exiting the praying mantis leaving the mantis to die. Ew. Let's see if this is the factoid Tokio was thinking of. If so, who's the mantis and who's the parasite? Is it Azuma and Tokio, respectively? Hmm. Also, love the insect symbolism. Throwback to Kaneki's centipede!

Flexi Choujin Attack (Johnny Kiyoshi Takeyama)

Mohawk Guy, now a choujin, is a flexi monster who's now more resistant to hits. He attacks Azuma indiscriminately with his new powers. He also kinda goes crazy... His subordinates fear his super violent side, begging him to go back to his "kinda naughty mama boy self", but he ends up snapping their heads off.

For some reason 2 injections fly up into the air?! Maybe someone tossed it. Because as Tokio brought Azuma to the water and brought him back out, he sees the 2 injections. Azuma wants to use it on himself.

Tokio hesitates to have Azuma use it but Azuma insists. Tokio remembers how Azuma saved him from bullies as a kid, and they agreed that Tokio will help Azuma beat the bad guys... Tokio gets the other injection and points to himself. Azuma says Tokio can't but Tokio insists because he feels that it's the only way to stay friends with Azuma. They also promise each other that they will have no regrets over this. This is kinda alarming for me!! Let's see what it will mean in the future.

But instead of both of them transforming into a powerful choujin, only Tokio transforms into one. He looks like a vulture, very beast-like. Looks even like Kaneki's Centipede! I think the other injection might have resulted in a bad/weak power, or maybe it's empty, or maybe Tokio didn't inject Azuma? But I doubt the last one. Anyway, Tokio's choujin look is amazing!

Can't help but feel this scene is related to the praying mantis thing... Maybe my hunch is correct? The parasite exits the mantis when near water, which is why Tokio manages to muster up some courage on his own?

We'll see!! I'm really excited to see this develop. It will be the first manga I will be able to see from the start to finish!
