X-Files Collector's Edition: MOTW but Rinse and Repeat
MOTWs were among the best of The X-Files episodes... but what if those monsters had follow up episodes?
Honorable mention: @paperheartsarts/Paper_hearts_and_homemade_arts's series If You Will Let Me (which is still on-going) which follows Padgett's demon pursuing Scully even after death. Horrifying hallucinations and real, physical danger nearly claim her and Mulder's lives.
Loose chronological order below~
Pattie's It and Them
""Mulder, you're not going to believe this... "
"I believe in all kinds of things, Scully." He looked at his watch. "Isn't it past your bed time?"
"Jane Doe appears to have become John Doe." She kept her eyes on the infant and waited for her partner's reply. "Remember the Amish outside of Steveston?"
"What?" Mulder sat up. Now HE was fully awake.""
Mulder and Scully do their best to aid an ex-Kindred cult member's baby that she leaves on Scully's doorstep.
Offspring
""The doctor ushered Mulder and Scully into a small office where he had a desk. "I know. You must think this is just something in the lake water, or regular hepatitis. But this kid puked up what looks to be a flatworm."
"A fluke." Mulder nodded to Scully.
"Yes, a fluke. Last month, we removed one from a woman's liver, and it wasn't a typical fluke. We embalmed it until we could find someone to identify it. Then, when Kevin Johnson was brought here yesterday, we had our second fluke. It's in an aquarium in the same lab. as the one we embalmed.""
S4: Flukeman-infested lake.
Genetic Appetite
""Scully was adamant. "We are staying." She knew she wasn't going to have a good night's sleep when Mulder started thinking aloud in the lobby of the apartment building.
"You don't suppose he... "
Scully's patience was wearing thin. "What? Don't suppose he what?"
"Mated. Well, it's not that impossible to believe, Scully. All beings have the urge to procreate. Maybe he could get through a date without eating.""
Liver extractions and bodies are piling up... but Tooms is dead. Mulder and Scully track down an unexpected source.
EllieL/Ellie's Rendering Judgment of Chthonic Gods
""Atropos has cut the line. You saw it happen. Whatever you may see that she has to do in the future, the decision was made that she shall not continue. It cannot be undone, not by my will nor my husband's."
"You could give her a choice. She's coming here unguided, and has dipped her hand in the river and tasted it. That must change matters."
"That--that does change matters, somewhat. She was a good woman in life, and I am not unsympathetic to her or what you see of her future. And she still has a choice where to drink. Let her make that choice, and perhaps she'll make the decision for us.""
Scully's nurse in One Breath bargained indirectly with her son-in-law, Death, for her patient's life. Invisible deals are struck, allowing Scully both to live and to see her father one last time.
JET/Jesemie's Evil Twin/eviljesemie's Things That Lie Outside
""He must have been the one to apologize but has no idea what he really said. After the family leaves, he realizes her presence behind him. Turning, he catches an expression on her face so protective of him he almost steps back. She straightens up, goes to grab their files off the internal audit conference table.
It might not have been there at all, that look. Probably not. Almost 100% guaranteed it was not.
He misses his sister at this moment, he realizes, because in every alternate world he's imagined, every place Samantha is alive and well and his sister, she has grown up to be the kind of person he would tell about that look, and he might let something into his voice that she would suspect, and it would be a secret between them.""
Post Paper Hearts Scully finds the last girl, setting her partner free from this last horrific hold.
Justin Glasser's (xphilefic) Kevin
""Miss Scully, this is Nathan, Kevin's brother. I talked to you today and--Miss Scully, I don't know if this is, like, your jurisdiction or what, but if there's anything you can do--he's gone, and we can't--I don't think we can find him. He said he was afraid of the moloch and I didn't believe him . . . Miss Scully, please." Click. The machine whirred in rewind, and shut off, light glowing placidly.
"You don't know what that is?" she asked.
Mulder shrugged. "Can't know everything, I guess.""
S5? Scully is called two years later when Kevin Kryder goes missing. While she and Mulder locate Kevin, his new brother is taken as well... and killed.
msk's (Ao3), bcfan’s, maybe_amanda/MaybeAmanda's (Site, LiveJournal), Tesla's (XLibris), Amy's, Kmom's, Lucy Marchmont's
Jabberwocky
""Sybil, have you go got a crucifix, a cross, an article or symbol of your faith on or about your person? Necklace, earrings, scapular, sacred vestments of any sort? Bottle of holy water, maybe?..."
Sybil shook her head. "I have another pair of duck earrings in my purse. How's that?"
"Probably not enough."
"Mulder," Scully said, her voice sounding harsh even to her own ears, "I'm giving you three seconds to start making some sense. One, two-"
"The glyphs," he said. "It's like a welcome mat. Only instead of saying *Welcome,* or *The Addams Family,* this is more like, *Vlad lives here. Trespassers will be eaten*.""
S6 (or S7) Mulder takes Scully back to Texas for another undead case, courtesy of Frohike. Between her jealousy of a flirty, bubbly redhead, pique at Mulder's constant Sheriff Hartwell teasing, enjoyment at an incredibly fancy hotel her partner booked specifically for her, and fear of said flirty redhead's two horrific insurance brother-bosses, Scully is torn between annoyance and affection. She is, however, able to pull it together just in time for the crazy finale involving her partner, a vampire feast auction, and a law enforcement bust led by the vampire Sheriff himself.
Maria Nicole’s
Stand by the Window
""Once they had tracked him down, only his threatened cascade of disclosure kept them at a distance, growling and snapping.
A few years ago he might have fought them, might have tried to disappear for good, or else oust Strughold. Now he was simply tired of it all.
And so he was finally forced to live the life he had pretended to have all along.""
The Well-Manicured Man survived FTF's car bomb, fending off his compatriots with threats of exposure. Plunging himself into caged retirement, he awaits the inevitable, befriending his spy-housekeeper leading up to the events of One Son.
Bridge
""So what do you want to call them? Little bug-boys?"
"Bug-ees. Buggers. The deadened. The ungrateful dead. Deadheads. Hey, yeah...deadheads."
She looked like she was struggling to suppress the smile, but it came out anyway. "All right, so we have the disappearance of these deadheads from the previous case. We have two people dead now, with some sort of puncture wound in the back of their neck. Have you considered that you were hallucinating?"
"I thought you just said you believed--" She shook her head. "That Pincus injected those people, without a doubt. But what if...you've been assuming that he's a large insect-like creature who can trick others into believing he's human. What if it's the other way around? What if he's a human who can trick others into believing he's a monster?""
Field Trip Mulder and Scully ditch their quarantine early, experiencing unexpectedly peaceful and soul-searching mind-melds while investigating a case very like Folie a Deux. The depths of Scully's plumbed from the depths of an ocean, Pincus and snake venom, and rescuing Mulder from himself-- this is a gorgeous read: more exploratorily honest than neck-stiffeningly intense.
Wylfcynne's Imagine
""He headed for the door, then hesitantly turned. "Agent Scully?"
She turned, surprised by his tone. "Yes?"
"You want to know why the X Files and the two of you have been shut down so hard?"
She stared at him. "We know why."
"Because you terrify them, Scully, with your courage, your integrity and your uncompromising principles. You terrify me and I'm on your side. Imagine how they feel.""
Post S.R. 819 Mulder and Scully are captured by a cult. He's infected with the black oil while Scully frees herself enough to call in Skinner and the cavalry. She then must save her partner, ruthlessly torturing the alien virus in his body to death. Everyone else stands in awe.
Joann Humby's The Pattern
""She kept her voice professionally mild even when she finally changed the subject. "Skinner said that Diana Fowley worked for Patterson."
He let his hand rest on her shoulder, admiring her courage. "I effectively introduced them. He liked her." He ignored the way that Scully flinched, and was grateful that she bit down her instinctive response to his remark. Talking was hard.... "After the Props case, he helped her to get funding for her research. In San Francisco," he added, not quite disguising the amusement in his voice. If Scully could be courageous then so could he. "About as far away from me as he could manage."
"But you still left the ISU?"
"Reggie was willing to take me off Patterson's hands. He wasn't in a position to say no."
"And you and Diana?"
"It suited us. A couple of thousand miles apart.""
Post Amor Fati Mulder's history with Monty Propps becomes relevant again. He slowly unravels the current mystery whilst reflecting on his past with Diana and his possible future with Scully, IVF, and angels. (There are even sections from Diana's POV during her early relationship which delves into her assignment to California and her recruitment parallel to Mulder's discovery of the X-Files.)
aka Jake/ aka_Jake ’s (Gossamer) Reprise
""She turned to face him, laundry abandoned. “I don’t have to tell you, we saw Eugene Tooms chopped into a million pieces by an escalator.”
“I noticed that.”
“City Square thoroughly cleaned the area before the shopping mall reopened. They sent us their bill.”
“Maybe they missed a spot.”
“And what, Tooms grew a new body from a finger or a pinky toe?”
Mulder tapped the end of his nose.
“No.” She shook her head. “It’s impossible.""
Post S11 Mulder and Scully battle another Eugene Tooms-like case... in fact, it is Tooms, who just won't die.
Gefangener (txt)
""Opponents of the death penalty often cite that capital punishment is not a deterrent to murder, those executed are usually poor, and many innocent people have been wrongly sentenced to death.
Tell it to someone who cares.
...Special Agent Fox Mulder has not seen Gerry Schnauz since testifying at his trial. He isn't sympathetic to the fact that Schnauz is a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, who, according to his court-appointed lawyer, belongs in Melvoin Psychiatric Hospital, not a maximum security prison.
Fox Mulder wishes Gerry Schnauz had committed his crimes in one of the forty states that gas, electrocute or inject its serial killers.""
AU-- Post Unruhe Mulder darkly reflects on Schnauz not getting the death penalty while Scully lies forever in bed, her mind ruined.
@admiralty-xfd/admiralty's Novam Domum
""Seventeen year old Daisy Peacock stepped on the gas but wasn’t certain where she was headed. The radio blasted Del Shannon and she rolled her window down. The smell inside the car was awful.
...Edmund Peacock sat stoic in the front seat, staring straight ahead, not saying anything. He never said anything. And her mother laid in back, blood slick down her thighs, screaming not out of pain but of rage. The noise was akin to the whinnying of a horse, or cattle being zapped. All she wanted was to make the sound stop the way Father would when the babies came out all wrong.
Waiting was her only option. Mother wasn’t long for this world, anyway.""
Post S11 Mulder and Scully were settling into their new lives as expecting parents when another family from their blast blows in, searching for their own place to call Home.
AUs
Adam Webb's Pyre
""As the casket stopped in front of him while loading documentation was double checked. Mulder saw L'Ively holding up his palm, displaying that it was empty in the manner of a theatrical magician. The next instant a tiny fluttering orange fire blossomed from his extended index finger. In the space of a second its intensity quadrupled, flaring into a pencil-thin lance of white hot flame. Coming from the casket a high-pitched beeping sound filled the air, indicating that the rise in temperature had been registered by in-built sensors. L'Ively appeared unconcerned, either with the fact that his pyrokinetic display had tripped the alarm or that his skin was being consumed. Mulder had a fleeting vision of the wiry little Englishman's body repairing itself and staggering out of the burning wreckage of a downed aircraft. It was a fact stranger than fiction that Lively had already survived three deaths. But all of those had been death by fire, Mulder reminded himself, falling from a great height would prove as fatal to L'Ively as it would to anyone else. Grinning like a hob-goblin L'Ively used the residue of his own melting flesh to draw a large greasy brown heart shape onto the glass, and through it blew a kiss to Scully. Then folding his blackened finger into his palm he abruptly banished the fire.""
Post Paper Clip Cecil L'Ively cut a deal with the government-- because, of course-- and puts Scully in a coma. Mulder and Phoebe team up to take him down, healing a few old wounds and earning a bit of redemption.
Thalia D'Muse's Nowhere to Hide
""The cabin is set back in the woods, two miles from the nearest dwelling. It is perfect. Your screams will be for my ears only. A sweet symphony with me as the sole audience. I shudder in anticipation as I remember your voice: a deep, sensuous alto, caressing my ears like a sultry torch song. I want to hear that voice again so badly. I want to hear that silky-smooth voice speak my name. I want to hear it scream, cry, beg for mercy. These are the sounds that will be music to my ears.
Sleep now, my Dana. We will be there soon.""
Alternating between the madness of Pfaster and the desperation of Mulder, this post Irresistible fic toys with an AU: if Donnie Pfaster were able to break free and recapture his last victim.
@slippinmickeys/Slippin' Mickeys's (Ao3) Unnamed (Ao3)
""Mulder felt like he’d been punched in the solar plexus.
“He killed her,” he said, deflating.
He’d been expecting a ‘we don’t know that yet’ or a ‘without a body, there’s still hope, Mulder.’ Instead, she said: “And you killed him.” Something in the way she held her shoulders made him think she wasn’t sorry for it.""
Post Paper Hearts Mulder finds a photograph of Samantha that matches the last cloth heart; but his extreme sorrow is immediately channeled into determination to save Scully from her cancer.
Erin M. Blair’s (Ao3) A Little Twist of Three
""Hold that thought," Scully replied, as carefully put down little Dana, and she opened the door. It was Kristen Kilar, one of Melissa's New Age friends.""
S1 deviated with Mulder and Scully becoming parents and a family. When S2 Duane Barry rolls around, it's Melissa Scully who is taken instead. Kristen Kilar is one of Missy's friends.
Kim Berglund's Blood Dimmed Tide
""Morbidly he reached in and slid out the state trooper's photo that had tormented him for many sleepless nights. Scully gagged and tied, her eyes wide with fear.
He dropped it back into the folder and closed his eyes.
It had been his darkest night. Until now.
He thought he could hear the beating of wings. La gargouille waiting impatiently for death.
Opening his eyes, Mulder let go of the file and reached for the one behind it.
Kristen Kilar, The Trinity Killers.""
Post Grotesque Scully is withdrawing from Mulder, thinking she's failed to help her partner-- giving up. Kristen arrives, creating more friction; and Mulder, sick of it all, pulls out his gun.
bellefleur/bellefleur1013's Triple Returns
""Kristen herself had not actually committed the murders the first time, but she had led her unholy trinity to each of the victims, and she alone as an observer knew the intimate details of each victim and crime scene. The identical nature of the crimes could only mean one thing--Kristen was reconstructing the path that had first brought them together. By duplicating the case that Mulder had solved, she was sure to attract his attention and draw him into it again.""
It's S7: Kristen Kilar is back; and Scully has to pry open Mulder about his past with her and save him from being turned into a vampire.
J. C. Sun's Leave
""Cold, very cold, yet lovely, this woman.
This coldness, this is what he lacks.
This coldness, it makes him better.
"Very pretty. You have good taste."
He starts.
He casts a nervous glance towards his gun. I laugh, and he relaxes.
"You are happy?" I say.
His mouth twitches, and I read that he is happy, as happy as he can ever be.""
Vampire Kristen lived, running across Mulder's path years later. She sees Scully, his peace, and-- finally-- her own reflection.
Thanks for reading~
Enjoy!

XF rewatch with my husband
We finally made it through the end of the original series. I haven't seen most of these episodes in years–and Seasons 8 & 9 only once at their original airing–so I am surprised to find my opinions really haven't changed. Episodes I loved, I still love. The final three seasons don't do a lot for me, with rare exceptions.
I asked my husband for the episodes he liked best. He named checked the Flukeworm, Squeeze, Pusher, and everything by Darin Morgan. There's a reason we're married. He favors to the MOTW eps over the mytharc, which he never really warmed to. I defended it mutliple times because I still think the early mytharc is pretty fabulous. The Anasazi trilogy is amazing. Scully's abduction. The Samantha clones. Anytime the characters are having to make agonzing choices about their love for each other or the pursuit of the truth, it's story-telling gold.
As a GenXer, my husband likes "Sunshine Days," and I agree it's one of the better episodes from the post-Mulder days. One of the lessons of the XF is indeed about the importance of found family. But this is why it really didn't work very well without Mulder, whose quest for family really drove the series. I liked Doggett and Reyes, but they didn't have the same skin in the game that Mulder and Scully did. Fox kept GA around for Season Nine, but 1013 didn't seem to know what to do with her. The better MOTW eps from this season pretty much ignored her entirely. And I still can't believe they brought Mulder back for the finale only to have a boring two-hour recitation of the series. WTH???
My husband is a completionist, so we'll probably move onto the reunion episodes, most of which I have never seen. To me, though, the XF still ends at "Je Souhaite," with Mulder and Scully having a beer on the couch, the alien invasion still waiting in the wings, but for the moment, both of them fairly happy.

Sending lots of asks today, but I was curious:
I don't think you've written XF fic (which is my exclusive fic wheelhouse, usually), but if you WERE to write XF fic, what would you focus on? Friendship, RST, UST, casefile, MOTW, in-between scenes, or just a drabbles (LOVE me a good drabble.)
Hah! Well, I guess now is as good a time as any; you've outed me! Or, I'm outing myself, since you asked. I actually have written some X Files, but I've never posted any of it. I got back into writing fiction fairly recently, being wildly inspired during lockdown by a tv show called Blindspot (which my original blog @nachosncheeze is based around - I later made @nachosncheezies for other fandoms). I was encouraged by a writer I really respect, and recklessly gave it a go.
I started dabbling with XF a few months ago, when I found myself getting lost in the details on a couple of my Blindspot WIPs. XF has characters I can connect with, but I'm not too much in their heads, if that makes sense. Playing with the Spooky Squad is giving me some practice (especially with dialogue, which I've felt weak at - the ways they talk to each other [and the ways they don't] are SO interesting) and a bit of distance from my other WIPs. The original goal was just to be able to come back to those other ones fresh, but I'm finding I'm enjoying it now, too!
To answer the hypotheticals I suppose it's easiest to look at what I've written in the past. In general, I'm a sucker for angst, I do introspective sorts of character things a lot, and so far everything has been canon-compliant fill-in-the-blanks/extra scenes. At this point AUs, casefic, etc feel a bit too ambitious for me. I've done some ship work but no smut, so not much you could call UST/RST. I think the lion's share of it has been one-shots around siblings and different iterations of [found] family.
When it comes to XF, anything I have/can imagine doing probably fits a similar pattern. My first exercise was an extra Scully/Bill scene for the Reduxes. I wrote it before I knew there was a deleted scene for Memento Mori and I was delighted to find some overlap because it kinda felt like I must be on the right track. 😆 Mostly, I've been playing pretty extensively with season 8. It hits the angst button pretty hard, moved fast enough to leave lots of space for in-betweens, and the second half has some useful places to practice fluff while still indulging my usual angsty "traumatize those suckers!" shenanigans. My house is currently watching 8 too, and I've been challenging myself to try to do a 150-word drabble from Doggett's perspective for each episode. That man is just so earthy and reliable. 💕 Soooo yeah, I suppose if I were to write XF, it would be something like... *gestures broadly*... that. ;D
Huh. Now that I'm chatting about it I guess I actually have a lot. Maybe I'll actually post something sometime. 😂

xf rewatch: squeeze and conduit
(As if this wasn't already apparent, I'll warn you that any off-the-cuff posts I manage to spew out as I rewatch are going to be rambly, unorganized and rudderless. I am tagging all of these "xf rewatch rambling." And I will be kind to us all and put in a cut.)
Eps 3 and 4, and we're still building some real foundational XF DNA here. Squeeze of course is our first MOTW and it's all nicely laid out for us: Colton and the jackass squad are all like, hurrrr it's ol spooky mulder he thinks a flying saucer did the murders, and even Scully is like, so whaddya think, these are the stretchy fingerprints of ALIENS? And it gives him a great opportunity to say, please Scully, I have range, we don't ONLY do UFO episodes cases on this show in this basement, sometimes we might have a "week" where we are investigating a "monster"! That will keep us busy!
It's also really interesting to see Mulder interact with the rest of the federal law enforcement universe for the first time, and how he plays into it in a smartass way, but how it really is relentless (with Colton in particular like physically blocking him from the crime scene even before he calls off the stakeout). Mulder doesn't get really mad about it until it gets to the point where he knows they've let a killer go and no one will listen to him about that. He's just such a fundamentally Good man, and it's a lovely thing to once again see through Scully's eyes how he is not the unreasonable one here, that despite his willingness to connect the dots to make a picture that is Beyond the Realm of Science, he IS, in fact, connecting dots, he's not just making shit up, and none of these dudes making fun of him are actually listening to him. I am loving watching how they draw his character in these early days.
Then with Conduit we're back into UFO stuff and it's our first Gordon/Gansa ep. This is the first episode I don't know like the back of my hand, although I remember it pretty well (and I don't know Squeeze AS well as Pilot and DT). It is quite solid, and MUCH more based on Carl Sagan's Contact than I remembered. As I rambled to a friend earlier today and will now do here again probably even less coherently, this whole thing was great for me until it falls apart at the end with the pieces of paper forming the portrait of Ruby. Despite this being a nifty reveal, the portrait is just SO GOOFY!!, and it is just a step too far for me. The aliens are sending numbers through the TV to Ruby's little brother — sure. And he's compelled to write them down and they turn out to be, in binary, the aliens repeating back to the humans what they've heard in transmissions from Earth, in what is assumed to be a way of reaching out or saying hello (this is what happens in Contact). I love all that, it's very spooky, it's a fun side-swerve when M&S get interrogated by the NSA because Kevin was accidentally transcribing top-secret military info, and it is undeniably a great moment when Scully goes upstairs and looks down and has the realization that it's a picture of Ruby. But... how can the 1s and 0s be BOTH encrypted satellite transmissions AND the precise sequence that makes a physical picture of Ruby's face? Also, is it like, a school portrait? Why is she smiling so hard? Did the aliens tell her to smile and snap a photo of her on the spaceship? Are they reading Kevin's mind and that's how he pictures her, with a giant cheeseball grin? It just kind of falls apart for me and it is silly enough that it breaks the momentum of the episode.
On the other hand, I get that they wanted to make it unequivocal that the aliens were communicating to Kevin about Ruby specifically — and to make that explicit tie between this situation and Mulder's memories, as expressed in the hypnosis in the (very emotional) last scene, about Samantha's abduction: the voice saying that she's ok and she'll be returned to him. This is a touching consistency that I never really picked up on before, that it is the aliens' MO when abducting a kid to make an effort to let a nearby loved one know that they don't have to worry. So working instructions for how to arrange the papers on the living room floor into their tv transmissions in order to make a giant Sears portrait of Ruby is another way of delivering this ultimately benevolent, hopeful message, I guess.
You couldn't keep it this way indefinitely, but I really do feel wistful about these early days when there was such a sense of wonder with the possibility of aliens, and so much unknown, before it all got bogged down in super soldiers and magnetite and consortiums and viruses and black oil and impregnating people with science against their will. You can FEEL Mulder's agitation and urgency in wanting to get Ruby's story and his agony at being blocked from it, and yet also understand Darlene's refusal to let this crazy-sounding stuff that has branded her a kook her whole life define her daughter's life as well. Just good stuff.
I will note though that there have been 4 episodes here so far, 3 of them dealing with UFOs, and in all 3 of those they have done the thing where you think you're seeing UFO lights and then it turns out to be a vehicle Very Much Of This Earth. I think you could give that one a rest for a little while, show.
Let's get real, this is all prelude to Jersey Devil, up next. Yeah baby.

XF asks: 10, 14, 29 👽
Who is your favorite character aside from Mulder and Scully?
Krycek, love that chaotic bisexual ratboi. I also like marita and wish we could have seen more of her i think she had so much potential. And of course reyes. Thing is I feel Reyes and Missy are very similar almost copy pasta and I wish we could have seen them long enough to develop and become deeper characters. Favourite tho? Ratboi
Favorite episode(s)? Why?
Oof anything that's lighthearted in s7 for that romance that just pops through. I think I'll just list a favourite from each season that if I was to watch right now I'd pick.
Pilot
Die Hand die verletzt
Quagmire
Unruhe or Momento Mori (although field where I died is my all time fave for aesthetic reasons)
Detour
Triangle
Rush, Je souhaite, Hollywood ad, x cops, first person shooter yeah literally any motw
Literally only the scenes where Mulder and Scully ate together, my fave one is when Scully patches up Mulder in her kitchen and boops his nose with a cotton pad
No... Why would i
Mulder and Scully meet the weremonster
This
How did you feel about IWTB?
I love the iwtb in my head that's full of hurt comfort and angst and middle aged people in love but struggling but loving each other too fiercely to give up. I love the exploration of that side of their love. It's my favourite; im a sucker for it. But when I watch it I'm disappointed because its not that it's a case that's boring and so much other stuff that's monkey wrenched in and pointless. Iwtb should have been about finding William.

20 Fanfic Questions
thank you for tagging me! Under the cut so it doesn't clog up the feed
How many works do you have on AO3?
22 currently (don't @ me for dipping on fictober)
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
143,522
3. What fandoms do you write for?
X-Files, Gilmore Girls (only 1 work), Superman/Smallville/Lois&Clark (2ish works), and I have a not yet posted or finished started Bones/X-Files crossover fic in the works. Oh uh 1 in Addams Family and That's it most recently
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
33 Cups of Coffee - Gilmore Girls Last FBI Party Before the New Millenium - XF A Word So Soft It Sounds Like a Scream - XF His Little Backpack - XF Celebratory Kiss - XF
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes!! I love interacting with people that read my fics and I love even numbers on ao3
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Two for the Price of One - Lois & Clark probably. I really want to do a rewrite for this because I don't like how clunky it turned out but it is all angst.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I have a few drabbles I would consider on equal playing fields. Mostly the ones that end with Mulder and Scully kissing.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I've gotten more confusion than hate. lmao I had one fic where someone pointed out my rating should be changed and another where someone said they had a hard time following it (I never said I was a good writer)
9. Do you write smut. If so what kind?
yee. Mostly m/f but in my Lois & Clark fic I'm dabbling with m/m and having fun with it. I also have plans for m/m/f and f/f/m pairings in other fics.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Yes! I have a bones/x-files in the works and I guess you could count my Lois Lane fic too bc Batman and Wonder Woman show up.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not to my knowledge
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
nope
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
yes! Back in the early days of my Tumblr time, I co-wrote the Two Spooky Agents series!
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
hard question! I'll always read and write MSR mostly because it is a vast and never ending pool of fic
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
cough cough my spooky motw fic or my other behemoth WIPs
16. What are your writing strengths?
I've been told characterization, which mostly comes out in dialogue.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
making sense, following writing rules, and everything in between.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I have! (probably poorly) for my Addams Family fic. Morticia speaks French and Gomez speaks Spanish. I love it but have a hard time finding the best way to include translations or if they are needed at all.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
don't make me out myself... grey's anatomy
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
I think my Lois Lane AU is my favorite so far even though there is a lot I don't like about it. I have a lot of WIPs so it's hard to pick a favorite when nothing is finished.

So, I have been following along with your X-Files blog while I watch through the series for the first time. I've just started season 4, and "Herrenvolk" triggered a horrible memory in me. I realized why it took me so many years to watch XF, despite my love of MotW, SFF, and Gillian Anderson.
The first XF episode I ever watched was the opening of the reboot, the night it premiered.
Well first, I hope you're enjoying my reviews, I put a lot of effort into them.
Second, yeah, Herrenvolk is a pretty intense episode, especially if you're afraid of bees. Glad you're finally getting into the show, I do love it a lot. Hope the horrible memory wasn't too much.

so i was thinking about my rewatch, and since i plan to watch msi separately to write angsty breakup fic, i was thinking about doing season 10 in sets of three (tacking msiii on the end for fic reasons). aaaaand then i realized that would mean watching babylon, msii, and msiii right on top of each other :/

Top 5 things you WISH had happened/been addressed in The X-Files
Ooh this is a good one.
1) Scully’s trauma surrounding her abduction. I know xf isn’t a soap opera but for a show that barely has a genre it can fit into it could have afforded to focus on Scully’s trauma a lot better.
2) Scully’s trauma in general, actually. She goes through a lot for the sake of Mulder and plot and there’s barely any lasting affects on her. There’s bits you can find in the show (like in End Game were she practically runs towards the car and ducks almost after being held hostage by the ABH) but that’s more Gillian’s acting choices rather than the actual script/story going that way.
3) Similarly for Mulder as well. He’s goes through a lot of trauma (not as much as Scully) that’s barely addressed.
4) There wasn’t such an obvious divide between the MotWs and the mytharc. Scully’s sister dying in one episode and next episode they’re investigating a dude who can control lightning and nothing is said about Missy’s death. Having both police prodecural episodes combined with ongoing storylines is interesting and different but it really doesn’t work for those reasons. Had the lines been blurred, had there been some reference to the mytharcs in the MotWs (like there were sometimes) I think it would’ve flowed better.
5) 2012 had happened. Did CC forget X-Files was a fictional show? Just because 2012 didn’t happen in real life there was no reason for it not to happen in the show, especially when there were all these storylines leading up to it. Sorry I don’t buy “aliens became disinterested in Earth because of global warming” as a reason not to continue with that story.
Bonus: The Revival being something more a kin to This. Mulder and Scully still investigating paranormal/alien shit on the side whilst being on the run from the FBI. I hate how they were just welcomed back into the FBI like the FBI hadn’t been after them for two years forcing them to go on the run in the first place.
ASK ME TOP 5 ANYTHING!

✖️✖️ 11x09 Nothing Lasts Forever
The one where... Mulder and Scully investigate another anti-aging cannibalism cult and finally talk about their relationship in a church.
Tagline: I Want to be Beautiful
Best: Their series of conversations in the church throughout the episode, especially the final one. Communication, we love to see it. Mulder: I don’t know if any God is listening, but I’m standing right here, and I’m listening. Right beside you. I’m all ears. That’s my choice.
Worst: It’s not really this episode’s fault, but the absolute fury I feel at the promos making us think we would get a kiss, when in fact we get no kiss all revival 🤬

Rewatch Thoughts:
William check-in: Scully: I believed I could protect our son, and I failed.
Break-up check-in: Scully: I believed that we could live together, and I fled. I gave up on that, too.
Mulder doesn’t blame her for those things. She doesn’t blame him for all the bad things that have happened to her either, and I love that we get to hear them have that conversation. She doesn’t want another life, she wants to move forward, together.
Are the doctors listening to Tad O’Malley talk about chemtrails in the opening scene?
Someone in the writer’s room is convinced about the healing and anti-aging properties of human flesh. How many episodes is this that feature cannibals? This episode’s like a mashup between the chicken cannibals from season 2 and the the organ stealing Frankensteining from IWTB.
Have we seen/heard anything else about Scully’s relationship to religion/the Church during the revival? I didn’t get the impression she turned there for support during seasons 8 and 9. I wonder if this is something she turned back to more recently - since leaving Mulder? Since the death of her mother? Since everything with William this season? Of course she was working at the creepy Our Lady of Sorrows during the IWTB period so maybe it was something she returned to after giving up William.
Mulder back to his old scaring off the local investigators with enthusiasm over paranormal knowledge tricks
Mulder: Did you get your hair cut? Scully: Are you kidding me? Ace investigator there 😂
Mulder: I finally know why I’m not a Christian, Scully. My parents never got me a puppy. Scully’s story reminds me of when my little sister tested whether Santa was real by not telling them what she asked Santa for - she didn’t get what she asked for but she decided what she got was even better therefore Santa must be real. She wanted to believe lol.
I can never decide if Scully is supposed to know she’s pregnant at this point and that’s what she’s struggling with? But if that’s the case wouldn’t that be what she told Mulder at the end of the episode? After their talk I can’t buy (or maybe just don’t like the idea of) her hiding it from him, even if it’s just a suspicion and she hasn’t confirmed it yet. So is it supposed to be angst over William even though to our knowledge nothing has changed since they saw him go off at the end of Ghouli? Or angst over their future together, ala the conversation in Plus One?
The Morning After - classic cheery song over a scene of violence, fun stuff. If you listen to the lyrics it’s also really resonant with where Mulder and Scully are at at this point in the series, trying to figure out how to move forward together. We’ll escape the darkness… We won’t be searching anymore…
Their exposition about putting a tracker in the cooler is so awkward, also completely unnecessary, of course that’s what they did!
What’s the point of the vengeance plotline? It could have been completely cut out and not affected the plot (it was the organs they tracked that led them to the cult). Is there something it’s supposed to be doing thematically? I will deliver… I think it’s just one too many things going on in this episode, which don’t all tie neatly together.
All the cult members coming out of the darkness and swarming them is creepy.
Mulder: You know how many times I’ve envisioned that scenario, where you left that basement office before I even needed glasses? Has anyone working on this show even seen the show?? 😳🤯🤨 You mean she should have walked in that first day, saw him sitting there wearing glasses and walked out? 😂
Scully: That’s not my four-year-old self looking for a miracle. That’s my leap of faith forward. And I’d like to do it together. Mulder: I’ve always wondered how this was gonna end. On it’s own I like this scene. When I try to make it work with what happens in the finale my brain short circuits and nothing makes sense.

What is the last book you read? What did you think of it? What is your favourite dinner? Blue or Oasis? Favourite XF season & why? I’m sorry this week has been hard. 💕
The last book I read was ‘The Dictionary of Lost Words’ by Pip Williams and it’s the best book I’ve read in many years. I didn’t want it to end and I’m still suffering that empty feeling where you miss the characters so much. It has shot into my top five books of all time. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
My favourite dinner is probably sticky, crispy pork belly with Asian slaw. If we ever go out anywhere to eat and this is on the menu, then I will always choose it. Delish.
I had to Google Blue, lol. I loved Oasis and still listen to What’s the Story Morning Glory. Maybe you meant Blur? In either case, Oasis trumps all. Even if the Gallagher brothers are total wankers.
My favourite season of the XF is probably season one. I rewatch many of the early episodes purely for the MoTW and the early flirting and care and respect. Those babies, so gorgeous. I do love season six too. So hot and so many good stand-alone eps.
We’re still mourning the loss of our beloved Theo. He was such a good dog and our younger dog is all out of sorts, so it will take a while to find some kind of normal.
Thanks for the ask, lovely.

Watching the Mythology Episodes so you don’t have to.
Dumb Summary: Mulder’s on surveillance watch, Scully’s back teaching. Mulder is unhappy and suffering some serious Scully-withdrawals. He’s more paranoid then he’s ever been after Deep Throat’s back so takes a vacation to Puerto Rico, makes friends with a Latino man and communicate via drawing pictures (pretty smart thinking). Mulder’s not doing well without Scully (or the X-Files) and whilst they are officially separated, that doesn’t stop Scully from following him to Puerto Rico and saving him.
Themes: Mentions of Samantha’s abduction, XF shut down, surveillance, being followed, destroyed evidence.

Mulder Costume Change Counter: 4.
As usual, my full analysis is under the cut.
Little Green Men isn’t your conventional mytharc episode. It’s similar to how Beyond the Sea isn’t the conventional MotW. In the same ways that that episode is Scully’s character episode, this episode is Mulder’s.
This is the first look we get into how Mulder deals with losing the X-Files (and losing Scully) and clearly, he doesn’t deal with it well at all. He’s unshaven, paranoid- “We must assume we’re being watched”, engages in relationships he has no intention of continuing- “Mulder…you hounded me to have lunch with you today and then you don’t show. You’re a pig.” He’s frustrated and distracted, stuck doing mindless surveillance work and feeling like he’s wasting time.
But what is probably the most interesting part of this episode is when Mulder gets to Arecibo. With Jorge dead, Mulder is truly on his own. Now, how Mulder managed without Scully is probably something we’re not meant to question but we see its effect here. Dehydrated, on his own in another country, scared and without Scully’s rational, in what I regard as quite a heart-breaking scene, he picks up a recorder- something we’ve only seen Scully use- and starts speaking into it like he’s talking to Scully. Mulder is aware that he needs her with him, that she is the one that pulls him off the edge and he’s without that.
He has perspective now, he knows the difference between walking along and standing on the edge and he’s trying not to fall off, he’s trying to gain the evidence before it disappears- “I will record my observations of the body in case at some future time, decomposition should obscure forensic evidence.” It’s nice to know that he does listen to Scully, that he needs her there to set him straight, to keep him on the path but allow him the opportunities to explore his theories.
 Stray Observations:
Placing the photo down is a little out of the blue considering we’ve never saw, or see, that happen again.
The people tailing Scully at the airport are shit af. On par with the people from EBE. Where are they hiring? I can’t decide if it’s a character choice or just bad acting.
I admire the effort gone to obscuring Gillian’s stomach through this whole episode.
First time I’ve noticed that when they’re being chased by the Blue Barets and Scully ducks beneath the dashboard, Mulder holds his hand out to her for some reason??

Are your top 10 XF episodes stable or do they change often? And is it just one top 10 episodes list, or do you have different categories i.e. 'top 10 MSR', 'top 10 MOTW', 'top 10 myth' etc. (ps: your rewatch thoughts make me so excited to continue on my 1st rewatch)
I have a top 11, really. My top 5 never change but the last 6 I just can’t decide which ones from day to day, so hard to pick only 10:
1 - Memento Mori 2-5 - Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose, Irresistible, Pusher, Bad Blood 6-11 - Milagro, Anasazi, all things, How the Ghosts Stole Christmas, Rain King, Redux II
I haven’t really thought about having categorized favourite lists, but it’s a good idea to explore.  😊
I’m glad you’re enjoying the rewatch! They’re taking me a lot of effort this season, with everything that happens between them.
Thanks for the ask!  ❤️

What is your favourite XF season and why? Do you have any pets? Who inspires you? Can you cook? Wine or beer? Do you have any phobias? How tall are you? Best book you've read this year? One bed or fake dating? Parrots or swans? Favourite sandwich filling? Your dream holiday destination? Your favourite quote?
I really have to think about my favorite XF season, because I’m really not into the mytharc eps anymore. Even the old (good) ones aren’t really my jam anymore. I’m gonna go with season 3 because it’s got such great MOTWs like Pusher, Clyde Bruckman and Quagmire. (Although I was tempted to pick a later season for Scully-hair related reasons.)
My cat is a fat tabby who is totally cool with belly rubs and people touching her cute little paws. I love her so much, but she’s super loud, like the most vocal cat I’ve ever met.
I can cook? I’m big on breakfast now after doing keto for about a year. But my meals are simple. I don’t drink a lot for diet related reasons, so I’m gonna go with vodka.
No real phobias here. I’m 5′6″. The best book(s) I read this year was My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante. It was such an interesting/true to life look at a female friendship and the hardships of growing up. It takes place in Naples, Italy and covers the life of two women who are very different.
FAKE DATING FOR LIFE!!!! Swans? I guess they’re pretty. There were swans in a lake at my college and they always looked so peaceful. I think a frat guy strangled one and it was a big scandal.
Pulled pork sandwiches with vinegar based bbq sauce are my favorite. North Carolina has the best BBQ.
I think I’m going to go to my dream holiday destination for a belated honeymoon in the spring. I want to go to France. I studied French in school and have always wanted to go.

Your latest - great, again - fic reminded me somehow of your curt, dry posts when William was revealed in s11. I couldn’t have agreed more. If you had your say— if you were the XF showrunner, how would you have introduced him ? When (before/after IWTB), how, with what characteristics? With what actor? So far, only Anjou’s brilliant undertakings have convinced me (in the « Ghost » series, set a few months after the end of s9, and in « Beating the Darkness Back », improving on IWTB)
Well, thank you!
I mean, first and foremost, Scully would not have given William up, if I was the showrunner.  But, if that HAD to happen, IWtB would not have been a MotW, it would have been a race against the alien invasion, where M&S are forced to recover William to save the human race.
I would cast an AGE APPROPRIATE kid for William, now and at any point.  One that actually looks like he could be their child.  (e.g. Jerry Shiban, who’s adorable little appearance at the comic con in 2013 made me go THAT KID COULD BE THEIR KID, ARE WE SURE HE’S NOT???)
What traits would William have?  The best and worst of both his parents.  He would be high intellectual, but extremely sensitive.  Probably a bit of a loner, but well-liked.  He would know things without being able to explain how he knew them.  He would be polite, but also volatile; temper flaring when he feels injustice has been done to himself or others.  His best friend would probably be a golden retriever because it’s a very loyal dog and a dogs thoughts are very pure and easy for him to trust.
I feel bad because I’m blanking on the name and author from one of my favorite fics dealing with how they get William back - but basically, they’re warned somehow that they need to get him.  He’s still a toddler, and when they show up, the van de kamps are dead and they take off with him to New Mexico and live in a trailer on a reservation while Scully develops a vaccine.  if anyone can remind me of what that fic is, please tell me!
