“Still Here Breathing”: Preview and Hypothetical Soundtrack.

So I said in previous posts that I am planning a crossover fic between Jennifer’s Body, Ginger Snaps and The Craft.

It’s working title is Still Here Breathing.

The story is going to be set in the same world as one of my crossover WIP’s Love’s Sacrifices (Carmilla: The Series/Pitch Perfect) and Mission to Silas (Ginger Snaps/The Craft/Carmilla: The Series/D.E.B.S); the latter is going to be a direct prequel to this fic.

While I’m far from actually writing down Still Here Breathing, I decided to write a hypothetical soundtrack for the story. Just something I tried experimenting with. I’d also give some tidbits for the story, and while this risks spoiling Mission to Silas, these spoilers are a Foregone Conclusion anyways (it is a prequel after all)

Tidbits.

1. The only thing I can guarantee from Mission to Silas is the survival of Brigitte, Sarah, Nancy, Bonnie and Rochelle. While I can’t spoil what happens to either the D.E.B.S or Lucy Diamond, I wouldn’t expect any of them to show up and lend a hand in the sequel.

Though I can see it being helluva story Brigitte and the Coven girls tell their friends.

2. Still Here Breathing is set to start weeks, if not months following the end of Jennifer’s Body (probably early 2010). As such, Needy will start off as a Hero With Bad Publicity with a Fugitive Arc.

To add insult to injury, Low Shoulder (or at the very least, Nikolai Wolf) is gonna be resurrected as incubi due to Needy bungling their murder. Not only are he/they antagonists, he/they remain Villains With Good Publicity for much of the story.

The commentary of Nikolai Wolf/Low Shoulder being predatory celebrities preying on their fans is also taken up to eleven.

3. Both Jennifer and Ginger are gonna alive in this story; how I am currently keeping under wraps.

I’m also planning on making Jennifer x Ginger a thing. One of the reasons I’m writing this story is to hook them up. Thinking of giving them an Enemies/Rivals to Lovers angle; think the lovechild of Jori (with Ginger as Jade) and Lumity (with Jennifer as Amity) and that should paint enough of a picture.

4. Megan Fox claimed she played Jennifer as a deeply closeted lesbian, so that's how I'd write her, with her dates/flings with boy being performative comphet. Expect much of Jennifer being a Gay Disaster, not being as confident with her sexuality as she’s letting on.

If you are remotely familiar with season one era Amity Blight, you will have a good idea of what Jennifer brings to the table.

5. All the expectant angst.

Especially with both Jennifer and Needy (while Jennifer x Ginger is a thing, Needifer is also one of the primary pairings of the story).

There’s also the expectant angst with the Fitzgerald sisters, but in a strictly sisterly subtext. There are some Ginger Snaps fans who try to put a incestous WLW spin on Ginger and Brigitte...I’m not one of those fans.

All these years being into Ginger Snaps (over a decade now) the only character is seriously shipped Brigitte with was Sam; as of Mission to Silas, I have also crossover paired her with Sarah and Nancy; along with AgentDiamond they’re the OT3 of the prequel

6. Speaking of Sarah and Nancy, this is another forgone conclusion “spoiler” from Mission to Silas - it’s in the stories fucking tags - those two are gonna be raising a kid. Along with Aunts Bonnie and Rochelle.

The kid in question is an alt version of Lily Schechner from The Craft: Legacy, with several alternations to her character; mainly that rather than be conceived by Nancy being r*ped, as per Zoe Lister Jones’ statement, she would be the magically conceived biological daughter to Sarah and Nancy.

Seeing as she’s six at the time of the fic, other changes are to be expected, this being a different stage of Lily’s life. One thing I see her being so far, is a younger fan of Low Shoulder (to the absolute chagrin of her mothers and aunts).

Also, while Brigitte does hook up with Sarah and Nancy in Mission to Silas, I’m not sure they’d still be a thing at the time of Still Here Breathing. That said, I do see them still being close enough that Lily greets Brigitte as “Aunty B”, and Brigitte greets her as “Little Bean”.

7. What element of writing do you struggle with most? For original stuff, and not just fanfic, it’s usually the sitting down to actually do it. I rarely get ideas that are as exciting to me when they’re just original stuff, but that might be because I’m just… I dunno, not used to it or something. It’s like the motivation is there, but the part where I sit down and do the work is like :/ I’m fairly certain this is directly linked to the fact that people already give a shit about characters in fanfic, so when I have to create my own and then thrust them into the world I’m like “Jesus Christ, is anyone going to give a shit?” I have SUCH a hard time loving characters in books. It happens pretty rarely I feel like, so… I’m holding myself to a high standard as well, when I write original stuff. It’s all about characters for me, though.

12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about Soooooo @slowlimbs and I are working on a still-untitled Patrick Hockstetter/Stanley Uris fic that is, honestly, my favourite fucking thing in the world LOOK AT THIS! (link) STANSTETTER STANSTETTER STANSTETTER! (That’s the ship name, change my mind.

16. Any guilty pleasure tropes? You know, honestlyyyyyy I don’t really feel bad about any of the weird shit I like so I don’t really have one that I feel guilty about per se? Boring answer, I know. I do SOMETIMES like reading about unusual or difficult pairings though — like something that sort of exists on the fringes of fandom (Stanstetter), or like… something unusual/not often seen in terms of pairings. I like that stuff, when it’s done well. I like when people really push the limits of characterization without losing the personality of that character. I think that’s cool. Not really a guilty pleasure, I know. I mean, I’d give you my lunch for some really good smut, but like… that’s no secret lmfao.

23. Do you prefer prompts and challenges, or completely independent ideas? Iiiiiiiiiiii prefer independent ideas, only because I find when I get a prompt or a challenge, it’s usually not what I wanted to do in the first place, so I kind of write it begrudgingly ALTHOUGH, I have written some stuff that i really actually enjoyed, and it does help me push the limits in regards to my own imagination and ideas — it helps me do things that I haven’t used or recycled before, so that’s really cool. But most of all, I would pick independent ideas (which includes co-writing which is less a prompt than a collective imagining).

29. Have you ever gone outside of your comfort zone for a fic? How did it turn out? I did do that, in two fics that I recall right off the bat. Maelstrom — I wrote this in Japan when I was going through some serious mental health stuff, working through past trauma, and dealing with the fact that I was living in a new country for the first time and it was sometimes very hard. I’m still extremely proud of this one. It was out of my comfort zone because it was some deep fucking catharsis. I worked through a lot of shit writing that fic, and I still love it so much. The constellations reveal themselves one star at a time — I was afraid to write this because of several reason. Because it’s an OLD fandom (soon to be revived I guess, but it won’t be the same and I’m pretty :/ about it). Because of the age difference, because I very rarely write het or het-appearing/adjacent pairings. Again, this was also a fic where I worked through my own trauma — different trauma than Maelstrom — and… yeah. I’m happy with how it turned out, but I second-guessed myself in that fic more than anything else I’ve ever written.

34. Copy and paste an excerpt you’re particularly fond of:

She doesn’t run in the winter, and it makes her feel like she’s going to lose her mind, some days. Makes her feel like she’s just some kind of fragile girl-vessel for a live wire: dangerous and unpredictable.

She’s pacing its perimeter, made jagged by furniture, letting her fingertips brush over her desk, her dresser, her bed. Her room, she thinks, always feels surreal after seeing Sam. Sometimes she feels like she can’t quite place Sam in this world, or in her world. Maybe she can’t tell the difference between her world and the world at large — the world as it really is. In the beginning he just seemed movie-star cool — when she was young (she felt younger, then), and starstruck and stupid. Getting to know him, she realized he’s just another fucked up person, only his problems are so far out of her reach. His problems can’t be fixed by skipping class to get soft serve at Dairy Queen, or getting her ears pierced. His problems are out of his hands — they’re bills and chemical imbalances in the brain, or capitalism, and drinking too much. Sam, Trina thinks, sometimes, is a half-hearted death wish wrapped up in quiet hands and tired eyes. She told him that, once; called him out on his self-sabotage, his substance abuse. She didn’t know how to tell him it scared her, so she didn’t. She just told him he was an idiot for doing it. She wishes, now, that she’d said it different, said it gentler, but Trina has never known how to be gentle when she’s afraid.

And she’s starting to realize that her problems, too, aren’t small anymore. Not able to be fixed with ice cream, or by burning pictures of people she loved who betrayed her, or a hug from her mom, or the barely-there brush of another girl’s hand against her cheek as she does Trina’s eye shadow with careful strokes — heartbreak makeovers. She’s too old to be kissed better.

Growing up, Trina thinks, kind of sucks.

35. Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!

I’m actually gonna copy an author’s note I wrote in an older, more obscure fandom that I want more people to see, because I think stuff like this is crucial for fandom and, honestly, just writing in general.

“One of my favourite fic writers once said "be the weird fic you want to see in the world" and I took it to heart. I would like to add a single word in addition, here: "be the weird queered fic you want to see in the world."

here's the rant no one asked for (you can tell i'm serious because i gave up on capitalization): as a person who identifies as queer/bisexual (attracted to my own and other identified genders) i have been increasingly distressed (but most of all: bored) with the portrayal of heterosexual relationships in media, fic, wherever (whether the people in those relationships identify as such or not). it's time for a revolution here, guys. gender is socially constructed, and people who participate in heterosexual/straight or “straight-passing” relationships should have just as much room to explore as people in queered ones, and all of these consentual relationships should be able to be explored, intimately, without shame.

i realized, while writing this fic, that the reason i so rarely participate in or feel like i enjoy reading or writing opposite-sex couples is because i always thought it was boring. and then i thought: hold up a second, it doesn't have to be.

so here's this chapter. it's been a time, and this pushing the boundaries of what's "allowed" in "straight" or opposite-sex couples is a theory/project i hope to continue in my future work and, i hope, you guys might too, if that's kinda feelin' like your jam. be brave out there.” -liminalweirdo

Ginger Snaps: Brigitte Fitzgerald headcanons

This is a follow up of sorts to an older post of mine, Ginger Snaps + Jennifer’s Body headcanons/prompts and some ideas in that post are carried over to here.

This also has to do with an upcoming AO3 story I will work on once I’m done Loves Sacrifices, that’ll mix Ginger Snaps, The Craft, and Jennifer’s Body. So far it’s only in the idea stages and not all of these are set in stone.

I figured I didn’t put enough focus on Brigitte in the previous post, and Brigitte herself doesn’t get enough love on this site as her sister. Since Brigitte has been a comfort character of mine for like a decade, I figured I rectify that.

1. For all intents and purposes, werewolves differ here than they do in the Ginger Snaps movies. Since it’s not directly mentioned in the movies, I choose to ignore the idea of “permanent change” for these stories. Werewolves here are portrayed closer to The Vampire Diaries depictions.

2. Brigitte’s final fate, obviously isn’t trapped in Ghost’s basement. In fact, I see her escaping and going free just after the events of Unleashed. While I long subscribe to the idea of Ginger’s resurrection or even Sam not only surviving but becoming a werewolf himself, I’m not sure they’d have anything to do with it. The main events of this story are gonna be set in 2010.

3. In fact, I see Brigitte traveling Canada and the states to come to terms with being a werewolf - as opposed to fighting it or wholeheartedly embracing it - for about a decade before she see’s either Ginger or Sam again. I see Brigitte having few people she can trust, and had a few toxic relationships after she escaped Ghost. Brigitte undoubtedly deserves better, but I think it would be a few years before she goes back to Bailey Downs.

Among the places I can see Brigitte visiting over the years, includes Mystic Falls (The Vampire Diaries/Legacies), Beacon Hills (Teen Wolf) and Devils Kettle (Jennifer’s Body). If she got her high school graduate, she would attend Silas University (Carmilla: The Series). Whitechapel, Ontario (My Babysitter’s a Vampire) is also a neighboring town to Bailey Downs.

4. If and when Ginger and Brigitte meet again, I see them having a relationship comparable to Eda and Lilith Clawthorn of The Owl House. I just haven’t decided who would be who in that scenario.

5. Speaking of Ghost, here’s a fun fact; Orphan Black and Ginger Snaps are canonically part of the same universe - same creators, same locations, etc. With this in mind I like to imagine that Ghost from Unleashed is a Project Leda clone.

This doesn’t have anything really to do with the story, but it is a headcanon I genuinely held for a long time.

6. I’m not gonna lie, I have considered parenting prompts for either Fitzgerald sister; I’ve been writing and scrapping ideas for these two for a decade, but one that kept coming back to me was the idea of one of them becoming a mother. Some versions it’s Brigitte, others it’s Ginger

It’s not a set in stone idea admittedly, and honestly, I lean more to a Needifer parenting nowadays - and even then that was filtered by both Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried being moms IRL. Again, it’s not set in stone.

7. Brigitte is a not-co-closeted nerd and Star Wars fangirl. We are talking Laura Hollis levels of cultured geek girl, that Brigitte rarely shows due to her usual demeanor.

Specifically, she’s a Star Wars Legends enthusiast (The Thrawn Trilogy and New Jedi Order are her personal favorites. Should she see the New Canon came out, Brigitte would be pretty cool with it, and take to writing on AO3, creating a fanon timeline that combines Canon and Legends. It turned into a collaborative effort with her friends.

With the above, at one point in their childhood, the Fitzgerald sisters dressed as Star Wars characters for Halloween. Brigitte went as Leia, and Ginger went as Mara Jade.

8. This one ties in with one of my previous posts; The Craft + Sarah x Nancy Headcanons. It’s also one of the few ideas that are set in stone.

Among the people Brigitte encounters on her travels, I can see her meeting and becoming very close to Sarah Bailey and Nancy Downs.

I mean, all three of them are long time Comfort Characters of mine, and the fact that Emily Perkins is a Fairuza Balk fan IRL may have influenced this idea. It thought it would be a waste to not link the three together. I personally see Sarah and Nancy reaching out to Brigitte upon finding out her predicament, helping her come to terms with her being a werewolf. “Mentorship” isn’t exactly the word I’d use, but it comes pretty close to what I have in mind.

I don’t know if it will tie into my prompt of Sarah and Nancy as a swinger couple - I can see it happening, although the only other person I seriously shipped Brigitte with was with Sam.

Either way, Sarah, Nancy and the coven are some of the few people Brigitte is on good terms with by 2010.

9. Brigitte has a hidden musical talent, and likes to sing when she’s alone or thinks she’s alone. She is a wiz on the piano, and has a singing voice comparable to Leona Lewis and Christina Aguilera. She isn’t open about her talents, and during her high school years, only about three people heard her singing voice and that was because they’d walk past a seemingly empty music class while Brigitte was alone with the piano.

Of course, Brigitte mostly does covers. In 1999, Brigitte did a cover to Nine Inch Nails Hurt, but Ginger told her that song wouldn’t exactly catch on. There was one song that Brigitte originally wrote, about her and Ginger’s relationship - it ended up being plagiarized by a toxic boyfriend Brigitte briefly had, who went on to use it in his band, Low Shoulder.

Another favorite of Brigitte’s as (surprisingly) Britney Spears Lucky - not that she’s a Spears fan in general, but Brigitte caught on to things pretty quickly and was way ahead of her time; she was in the Free Britney crowd all the way back in 1999.

The main reason why Brigitte doesn’t utilize her talents, on top of all her other problems, can be boiled down to her being stage shy.

It's impossible, ridiculous, but he thinks this is one of the most intimate moments he's ever experienced. He can read so much in Brigitte's eyes, and he thinks it might be the longest she's ever just looked at him. Sam takes a breath or tries, but can't quite manage a lungful. He told himself he wouldn't, but this feels different. She's not just here out of desperation this time, and she's got something assured in those green eyes.
