i rlly miss naruto before he could control the nine tails because that naruto was so interesting and compelling. like every time the nine tails power comes out it is when some profound moment happens to him. when sasuke jumped in front of hakus little knives things and when he jumps to protect sasuke in the chunin exams (it’s not a Big thing like in land of the waves but he has the like red eyes and shit thing lol) and ofc in vote1. the scene on the bridge with orochimaru (don’t talk about sasuke like you own him especially in front of me!) etc.. like this is just smth so interesting about naruto how his love and compassion and Need to protect those closest to him just completely overtakes him. i stg like every scene where he’s like kneeling in front of the nine tails and having like a 100 yard stare is ingrained in my head because he looks so. like lost and out of it. like he doesn’t even rlly know wtf is happening he is just Feeling So much it quite literally overpowers him and turns him into a monster. his love and rage are so deeply intertwined it’s insaneeeee. just like!!!!! land of the waves hes surround by the nine tails chakra and it’s crazy but he’s holding sasuke so gently and close to him. and then “i’m going to kill you”. vote1 naruto through tears in his eyes while simultaneously begging sasuke not to go also “i’m going to break every bone in your body” “don’t talk about sasuke like you own him especially in front of me” like he just! he is so normal!!!!! HE IS THE FACE OF LOVES RAGE

...Something's kinda hitting me, guys. I think something just clicked.
So we all know that BB!DOTC is the arc I'm not staying faithful to, right? A lot of characters are getting total overhauls? I'd actually been dancing pretty heavily around the pro-colonialism themes in the original text, simply because I don't really feel comfortable handling them (same with certain sexual themes, it's not great for my mental health to force myself to engage with certain elements that are triggering)
So I'd made it so there was Park Cats (Wind Coalition and River Kingdom) who arrived relatively recently, and Tribe Cats (Sky's Clan, Shadow's Clan) who nestle into an unclaimed spot in the forest. All groups roughly equal in power until Thunder's Clan which was existing in defiance.
But Clanmew isn't JUST comprised of Parkmew and Tribemew-- there's a third contributor. Old Townmew, which mixes with Parkmew and forms Middle Townmew, mixing again with Clanmew to create Modern Townmew.
Since I'm now really thinking about the colonialism themes, especially in my re-read where it starts reaching its narrative conclusion in Books 5 and 6... I think I need to add that 3rd cultural group. I need to make them a player. I think I'm doing a serious disservice by only having the Park Cats, Tribe Cats, and then saying all others mostly lived in the town.
I'm gonna do a BB!Brokenstar with Slash. Previously I'd just cut him completely-- but I think I should, instead, walk him back from being "Pure Evil" like he is in-canon and make him into a real character.
One Eye's a god drawn to the festering stink and rot of the First Battle; Slash is a mortal, leading a group like any other in the Forest Territories.
I think I'm also going to significantly bump up the time the Park Cats have been in this territory. Slash and his cats have been fighting them for years, and until the Mountain Cat influx, were basically spread through most of the Forest.
#Since BB!DOTC starts with leaving the mountain and ends with the First Battle#I'll also have a lot of time to explore Thunder interacting with all of these cats#Something often misunderstood is that Colonialism isn't... new.#It didn't come from capitalism. People have invaded and subjugated native groups for eons#What's new is how refined imperialism made it and how it's down to a bloody science now#I have plenty of cats to populate these groups too unlike newer material#Better Bones AU#BB!DOTC#I might have Slash and Thunder's groups eventually merge towards the end#That would make sense as to how Thunder's Clan was seemingly suddenly on a similar standing to Sky's#...could be a prettyyyy badass ending to the 'thunder ties to do a ton of diplomacy' arc by having him realize-#-his group has a LOT more in common with Slash than all the bigger groups#Kind of subvert DOTC's message by having him believe Slash IS a bloodthirsty monster who hates love and friendship#And then he realizes at some point. That was a fucking lie#That's sounding pretty good to me actually what do youse think

omg what about siren! reader and sea monster/mermaid! foul legacy?
i like that theory that sirens are beautiful because they need to lure sailors while mermaids are monstrous as they want to be left alone. i can imagine legacy hunting a whale for sport and then presenting it to reader as a courtship offering. legacy is intimidated by the beautiful siren as they regard the gift and then swim away to their cove and legacy thinks their offer has been rejected. but then the next day, reader gives legacy a human they hunted. i can also imagine they give each other gifts from sunken ships because they think "ooh shiny...perfect for mate!"
ohhh my goodness, it seems that great minds think alike because this is wonderful and adorable!!!!
sirens and sea monsters are usually quite distant from each other, not antagonistic but also not close enough to justify stopping in the other species' territory for a rest. it's entirely by chance that you and Foul Legacy happen to live near each other, generally staying out of the way until Legacy catches the tail end of your haunting yet beautiful song, his crystalline eye widening as he tilts his head to listen. there's screaming and a horrible crunching sound when the melody ends, a nearby ship ramming into sharp rocks and crumbling to the seafloor as you swim after it with an eerie, gleeful laugh. Legacy's heart flutters as his scaled tail waves behind him, and he quickly turns and swims off to hunt down the perfect courting gift, just for you
he's incredibly nervous when he ventures into your territory, a dead whale clutched in his claws. you perk up when you see the sea monster swimming towards you, stopping a few meters away and gingerly pushing the whale towards you, letting out a meek chirp that doesn't match his bestial appearance as you inspect the gift carefully. his wing-like fins droop when you flick your tail and swim back into the grotto you call your home, only to flutter in surprise when you return, proudly dragging a drowned human behind you to present to him. Legacy trills in fascination, swimming in circles around you as you also show him the various treasures you've collected from sunken ships and drape a glittery necklace over his horns. he purrs, claws twitching to hold you and hug you close, but he settles for tentatively twining his tail with yours in a silent request. his purrs grow louder when you return the gesture, accepting his courtship, and Legacy's bioluminescence glows brighter out of sheer delight

yknow its probably a good thing that the themes of control and the fact that frisk doesnt equal the player etc werent like the Main thing with undertale because the fandom so horribly interpreted everything about it early on that it served as a great display of what toby needed to do to Not Mess It Up in deltarune where its basically the whole point

this happens so often the other teens are sure, absolutely certain, that Lagoona WOULD get Drac to hide in the pipes anyway. Again.

they didn't forget drac has a running losing streak when it comes to resisting lagoona's smile and lagoona's enthusiasm and lagoona wanting to do things together with her

draculaura tells lagoona she's a witch right after lagoona admits she's being blackmailed by toralai, and WHILE the blackmailing was still going on
draculaura looked at this face-
and told her, hey so, toralai's not lying. im a witch.
lagoona didn't even ask her about it
drac said "i know exactly how you feel", lagoona just Looks At Her Like That and drac decided, yep, i actually feel ready to tell my dangerous secret right here right now to this person specifically
she trusted lagoona not to use this against her, despite the blackmail
or maybe she felt it was worth the risk??? getting to open up and connect with someone in a similar situation is worth the danger of it blowing up in her face?
and it WAS worth the risk, bc lagoona was 100% excited about drac's magic, totally delighted, called it incredible, asked if she could watch more
(love how ppl are worried about witch stuff until they learn that DRACULAURA'S the one doing it)
(feels real to me. if you know and trust a person, and then it turns out they're doing this thing, a thing you've got no personal experience with and only know you're supposed to hate bc someone told you so, makes sense you'd have more faith in the person you know and give them a free pas at it)
lagoona's SO into it she even asks to see more magic
which we know. we know drac is staved for getting to show her witch side. it's part of her she that makes her feel happy and good and like herself, not being able to open with it is, isolation
isolation for a vampire that gets her vamp energy via positive attention from others. ouch
so here's lagoona, lagoona who is being blackmailed to work against her, lagoona who is all bouncy and twirlly about drac's magic, lagoona with her own secret side she's not ready to share yet
and drac let's lagoona WATCH HER make the single-use, anti-secret-telling potion that she plans to use on toralai
toralai, the one who is still blackmailing lagoona
lagoona, who's secret (that the fiercest monster in school still cuddles with her childhood fish squishy) while very personal and potentially embarrassing, is NOT actually might-get-expelled-or-banished levels of dangerous if it gets revealed
unlike drac's
(first time watching this i got nervous for a moment bc in several other shows i've seen, a set up like this would mean lagoona gets pressured into revealing the potion to toralai too and blah blah blah, angst betrayal misunderstanding eventual forgives etc. Buuuut in monster high....)
the risks involved are different, but Draculaura knows what having the secret FEELS like
the secret's not the important part for her and lagoona, losing control over WHEN it gets told is the painful scary part!
So when lagoona panics thinking the potion won't be able to protect draculaura, when she tries stopping toralai, when toralai gets pissed and is about to make good on the blackmail against lagoona-
drac uses the one safe use of the potion, to protect lagoon's secret instead
not hers
she chooses to be outed to the whole school so lagoona won't be
LAGOONA LEGIT TELLS HER AFTERWARDS
"Oh thank you, thank you! You're like a princess that saved the damsel in distress!"
and when toralai tells the school and runs to drac/frankie/clawdeen's dorm to proove all the witchery,
(side note i love that when using the potion twice comes up dracs like No I'm Not Willing To Risk Permanently Hurting Someone Just To Keep My Secret Safe- this is why everyone trusts her to be a witch ok, they know she WOULD NEVER use it that way)
when drac is panicking, bracing herself for impact- LAGOONA BREAKS HER OWN RECORD SWIMING THROUGH THE PIPES TO GET THEIR FIRST AND HIDE ALL THE MAGIC STUFF
my heart! i can't take it!!!
she puts it all in her own room, in the tank, in plain view of anyone who might be passing by and stick their head in like drac did earlier and get the wrong idea about who's doing magic
but she can't stand by and let the witch secret get pulled out and proved true like this. she knows what the secret feels like too!
these two take such risks to protect each other's chance to choose im crying ok
Draculaura: "Lagoona- I, am eternally grateful!"
Frankie: "Eternally? And you're immortal! Oh zap, that's a looot of grateful."
Lagoona: "I'm the one who's grateful! Thanks for keeping my secret safe."
IM CRYING, OKAY!?!??
like to hell with shipping! You don't come out of sharing something like this without a forging a bond that's special and deep and just for the two of you!
the writers didn't pass over that. they didn't forget it

(remember when lagoona made a script based on her own lonely childhood then threw it out and replaced it with one where she gets friends but is worried about chomping them and drac vibed so hard with her character she begged to play lead role)
(drac the vampire who went vegan and doesn't bite or drink blood even though she COULD and still has the instinct to as seen in Creature Clash hey hey the parallels are getting to me)
(let lagoona have her freshwater boyfriend and daydream about being rescued by princesses her hair is the dang PAN PRIDE FLAG)
in conclusion
if lagoona wants to partner up for hide and shriek again and hide in the horrible wet water pipes again, we know drac's gonna end up going along with it.
AGAIN
for the hundredth-and-whatever time
romantically or not, i think she kinda loves lagoona a lot. same as how lagoona loves her
