Alright so what exactly do you think about Izuku’s current use of Blackwhip? Plus him looking like he’s grown claws using it.

"Black Whip" may just be one of my favorite Quirks. It's certainly in the top ten, maybe even top five. First and foremost, the power itself is very fun. Anything that involves lengths of flexible materials like ropes and strings just lends itself to creative usage, with "Black Whip" being no exception, especially since he can shape and control them to such an extensive degree. We get swinging around, grabbing people for combos, catapulting stuff at enemies. It's one of those powers that is fun to think about in how it can be used and evolve, like him potentially tying them together to make a giant net or forming them into dark wings to fly around on. Then there are the ways it has grow over the series, like how Izuku learns to wrap it in and around himself as a form of protection and using them as decoys for people to attack. It was an interesting idea to expand on Izuku's arsenal without feeling redundant or pointless like a lot of his other powers. Honestly, if every settled and he only kept this Quirk, it'd be okay with it. Which may have just set my expectation too high for his other powers, but that isn't the fault of "Black Whip".

Then there are all the artistic merits of it. Having it tied to Izuku's emotions was a brilliant idea. Not only does it help a lot from a balance perspective given how strong the Quirk is, it's a good way to show how Izuku is feeling without saying it. Like having the whips surge out of control when he is angry in his fight with Tomura or come across as much weaker when he's become emotionally deadened when he is out on his own. On top of that, it can allow for interesting visual storytelling, like with how it makes Izuku look more monstrous and villainous with it's usage. For example, when Izuku found Bakugou's body, he explodes with rage and forms a heart with three spikes in it. I and several other fans were able to connected it to the Three of Swords arcana, which relates to sorrow and accidental death as well as the releasing of pain. It was a fun, yet subtle reference that could only be done with "Black Whip". Plus, there's just this fun progression of references with the Quirk. We've got the inital fun swinging and grabbing stuff referencing Spider Man, the all black, monstrous covering referencing Venom, before reaching the violent mix of tendrils with Overlay referencing Carnage.

About how Deku only goes mindlessly feral when Bakugou is hurt - part 2

I keep seeing people complain that "NO! Deku goes feral for everyone" and so I wondered if that was really true. And... it was not. I went and check every single Deku fight or occasion where someone was hurt and Deku could intervene.

i like your tastes so i hope you don't mind me sharing a fic idea that's been swimming in my head for a while,, i always write bkdk romantically so that's this

i want to know what would happen if katsuki found out how izuku unlocked blackwhip. after the class A vs class B training, the three of them (bkdk + all might) have one of their cute lil ofa meetings. katsuki is suspicious and doesn't buy izuku's explanation.

they leave the meeting and katsuki makes a comment about his suspicions. izuku laughs it off and swears that he doesn't know more about blackwhip's sudden activation. katsuki scoffs and walks away.

then the blackwhip training sessions start, where they play "catch-a-kacchan", and katsuki only gets more sus. listening to izuku talk about how blackwhip was activated by strong feelings, katsuki knows that there's more to this. just wanting to win the training exercise couldn't have been a powerful enough feeling to trigger a whole new quirk, right? throughout their training sessions, katsuki had always scoffed or made accusatory comments whenever izuku talked about the quirk.

katsuki finally confronts izuku again, who explodes into an angry rant. izu's saying things like "fine! you want to know what activated blackwhip? it was you. monoma was trying to get under my skin so i'd respond and get brainwashed. it wasn't working until he mentioned you. i was so focused on capturing him and then he insulted you and i got so angry and it just--exploded out of me." "are you happy now? it was you. it was you, and it has always been you."

my brain is being smooth rn and i can't think of more to this but yeah thats the general idea

The apartment is quiet when Katsuki returns from his graveyard shift.

He sighs, kicking off his combat boots and removing his hoodie, dropping his phone with it. It’s comfortable, but he plans on slipping into bed with Deku, and the man is like a duvet all on his own.

He shuffles down the hallway, dragging his feet. His eyes are glued shut, but six years in this place should be long enough to not run into the door frame.

His head dips, his arm catching on the wall as he turns.

Small, labored breaths sound from inside their bedroom, accompanied by a few wheezes.

Deku shouldn’t be up at this hour, even for a night owl this is ridiculous.

He frowns.

“You up?” He grunts, leaning forward into the bedroom.

“Ka- gchl-” a wet noise comes from in front of him, and Katuski’s face scrunches.

“Deku what the fuck are you doing?” He opens his eyes, just enough to see his boyfriend, laying on the floor with his intestines spilling out of his abdomen. Blackwhip writhes in his body, the faint crackle of the quirk now deafening in Katsuki’s ears.

“Wh- Izuku holy shit!” He cries, stumbling forward onto the hardwood next to his boyfriend. His hands immediately go to cup his organs, his mind screaming at him to stop touching them, but he can’t.

“Kacchan- sorry.” Deku wheezes, hand twitching on the ground. Blood gurgles out of his mouth, bubbling and falling towards his ears as his neck arches.

“What the fuck, why did you-” Katsuki stares, unsure what to make of this.

NO, you fucking idiot, you’ve trained for this. Go get help or he’ll die.

His hands hover over Izuku’s stomach, wavering for a moment, “Recovery girl, I’ll call Recovery girl.” He whispers, scooting back to reach for Izuku’s phone, discarded on the floor next to him.

Why didn’t he call for help?

“No, Kaccha-” Izuku chokes, coughing and splattering blood on Katsuki’s sweatpants. “-an’t hurt more p-eople.”

“Yes, Izuku! You’re not going to bleed out on the fucking floor!” He reaches over to Izuku’s limp hand, already covered with blood, “You can’t control blackwhip? You wouldn’t do this on purpose, Izuku, right?”

Izuku looks away, chest stuttering.

Katsuki sobs, leaning forward onto Izuku’s chest. Overwhelmed tears finally fall onto his boyfriend’s shredded sleep shirt.

“Kacchan, I can’t con-rol. Was upse-t. Sorry.” Tears fall down Izuku’s cheeks, mingling with the blood to soil his hair. His eyes flutter, green irises noticeably dull.

How fucking long has he been laying here? How long has he been dying here?!

“No, Izuku come on- You can’t fall asleep, baby.” He whines, feeling helpless.

“-acchan- love you.” Izuku’s head tilts toward him, and he smiles a flash of red teeth. “Sorry.”

“Deku please!” Katsuki cries, “One for All isn’t gonna let you die, right? It can’t! You’re the symbol of peace, Deku, you can’t just leave like this!”

Izuku wheezes, smile faltering, “It… did this.”

His breathing is weaker, his chest rising slowly and blood squirting from his abdomen, where blackwhip still writhes.

Katsuki can’t fucking do this. He can’t- there’s no world in which Izuku doesn’t exist. He- “Izuku take me with you.”

Izuku groans weakly, “-an’t”

“No, please!” He cries, leaning over his boyfriend to hold his face, pressing their foreheads together, “You can’t fucking leave me, Izuku. If you don’t, I will.”

He opens his eyes, meeting Izuku’s for the last time.

“No,” Izuku’s voice is a faint rasp, but it’s clear.

And Katsuki hates him for it.

I have a lot to say about the potential of Izuku transferring abilities and losing out on his power and really want to talk about it, as well as him transferring abilities in the first pace, but I want to discuss a certain line. En brought up how he was the most useless one, but that got me thinking about which of Izuku's Quirks are the most useful? So here's my own list ranking them.

Gearshift: I understand this gives Izuku a huge boost in power, but in reality, it serves very little practical benefit. It puts such a huge strain on Izuku's body, and whatever his target is, it's only practical as a last resort super mode. It's only useful against someone as powerful as Tomura and how often are you going to fight someone as powerful as Tomura?

Smokescreen: This is obviously Izuku's least combat-applicable power and hasn't been used for much else but to make him look cool. That being said, it still has some uses, such as hiding Izuku from sight and blasting people back to give himself some breathing room to plan things out, giving this brawler a uniquely useful stealth option.

Float: I've ragged on this Quirk a few times for how boring it was given that Izuku can already launch himself through the air, but you can be boring and useful. It's been helpful in giving Izuku more control over himself in the air, helping him with bad terrain or long-distance travel, and letting him control enemies to a greater degree by air-juggling them.

Fa Jin: As a physical booster, this really doesn't add a lot to Izuku's arsenal on paper, but it still has some uses. The stored energy works better as a trump card with how easy the energy is to build up and the sheer jump in speed whenever he applies it, like if he needs to save himself or someone else. Plus, it has a lot of use in empowering the other abilities, expanding their applications as well.

Danger Sense: While the Quirk isn't the most diverse of the six powers, I cannot deny how useful it is to detect when someone is in danger. Not only does it save Izuku's life on several occasions and help manage his other abilities, but always knowing when someone else is in danger is immensely useful, both in finding people to save and knowing if allies are about to come to harm.

Black Whip: I mean, was there any surprise? From the very beginning, "Black Whip" has always been an immensely valuable tool in Izuku's arsenal. It's range and flexibility gave Izuku so many new options, both combat and utility-focused. From mobility to control to damage to support, this Quirk could do pretty much anything Izuku needed it for. Honestly, I could make a whole other post just gushing about it.
