Since they’ve been on the mind, mayhaps “slugs” as a prompt

This one's co-authored by @newtsnaturethings, because who has the best ideas about slugs? NEWT does, that's who! 🤩 This is also directly inspired by this adorable art by Newt. [And now, there's a sequel which you can find here!]

Snissing and Sluddles

At the sight of two large, yellow, crescent-shaped objects in the grass, Link leaps to attention, weapon ready to defend against any nearby Yiga, but he waits… and waits… and waits… and nothing happens—so he takes another peek at the ground, noting the glistening, moist-looking surfaces, and even though they’re tapered at the ends like bananas, they’re not quite the right shape or texture; perhaps they’re a day-old cinnamon roll sadly left to the elements, condensation and yesterday’s drizzle having stripped it of most of the glaze (there’s still some right in the middle) and cinnamon (there might be a little bit of that in the seam between the two parts), the dough itself bloated with moisture, and this bothers Link—who but an absolutely terrible person would waste such a delicious baked treat?

Link sheaths his sword and crouches, inching his face toward the anomaly, stopping with a half-choked gasp when the two crescents… undulate… they’re moving… they’re ALIVE… and dear Goddess Zelda has to see this because they’re slugs (aren’t they?!), he’s looking right at two slugs snuggling—no, kissing—no, SNISSING, but Zelda’s at home and he’s here and what if he leaves and gets her and they’re gone when they come back or he’s just too excited to remember where they are when he tries and he has to bring them back to the house to be his cute snuggling slug pets (and it’s not like they don’t have a bunch of empty terrariums)!

He decides lifting them with his hands would be a bad idea—they’re awfully big and slimy-looking, and his hands aren’t particularly large, and besides, he might disturb them (the last thing he wants to do is interrupt their slug-cuddles, or sluddles, if you will)—so he pulls a wide spade from his still-magically-incredible-korok-pouch and rocks it with the patience of a man who sleeps for a hundred years into the earth beneath them; in half an hour, the sod-and-slug-filled-spade precedes him through the door of their Hateno home (he figures he’ll show Zelda before putting them in one of the terrariums) and he whisper-shouts, “Snissing slugs, Zel!” to which she responds, “What do you mean, sniss- LINK, THEY’RE MATING!”

"So..." Link says with a blush, "can we sluggle like the slugs?"

i do unironically think the best artists of our generation are posting to get 20 notes and 3 reblogs btw. that fanfic with like 45 kudos is some of the best stuff ever written. those OCs you carry around have some of the richest backstories and worldbuilding someone has ever seen. please do not think that reaching only a few people when you post means your art isn't worth celebrating.

cant tell you how bad it feels to constantly tell other artists to come to tumblr, because its the last good website that isn't fucked up by spoonfeeding algorithms and AI bullshit and isn't based around meaningless likes

#please dont delete your accounts because of the AI crap. your art deserves more than being lost like that #if you have a good PC please glaze or nightshade it. if you dont or it doesnt work with your style (like mine) please start watermarking #use a plain-ish font. make it your username. if people can't google what your watermark says and find ur account its not a good watermark #it needs to be central in the image - NOT on the canvas edges - and put it in multiple places if you are compelled #please dont stop posting your art because of this shit. we just have to hope regulations will come slamming down on these shitheads#in the next year or two and you want to have accounts to come back to. the world Needs real art #if we all leave that just makes more room for these scam artists to fill in with their soulless recycled garbage #improvise adapt overcome. it sucks but it is what it is for the moment. safeguard yourself as best you can without making #years of art from thousands of artists lost media. the digital world and art is too temporary to hastily click a Delete button out of spite

it's spotify wrapped season again and you know what that means! time to plug that wrapped playlist into hype machine's merch table tool and see if it turns up any bandcamp links where you can directly support your favorite artists of 2023! the tool is definitely not perfect or infallible, but it's a great start if you want to start compensating the artists whose music meant the most to you this year at a rate higher than the peanuts they got from your spotify streams!
