(GURREN LAGANN) 2007

One of my favorite top 10 mecha anime series despite it's short run compared to other series like Gundam and it's decades long pedigree. This series caught me by surprise and never disappointed when it released in america.

I wanted to answer this in a post cuz then I could write more.

 “ I graduated with a degree in animation back in 2020 but kind of fell off the horse due to health issues...I've been trying to get back into the industry but now I'm wondering if I should just give up altogether :(.   just, like, with my age (I'm 28) and the amount of time that has lapsed since then PLUS the current state of the industry 😭 anyway sorry I'm being rude, hugs! 💞💞💞💞 “ @electoons​  NOT RUDE AT ALL. 

It can feel pretty impossible sometimes, but a lot of these things, as sucky as they are- are more reflective of the cycles of industry and life and culture. Animation has gone through major shifts before. Heck , the boom of the VHS changed it as well ! I do think this shift is ..more wide spread and not just in the animation industry - ,but its nothing thats going to outlast the art of visual storytelling. 

Your age is not a factor my friend,and in fact I find the people who enter the industry with a lil more life experience under their belt have a lil bit of an easier time balancing the pressures of the job. I know a lot of people where working in a studio was their FIRST job and it can be easy to sucked into the hustle culture. so no worries on that front.  Its SO GOOD you took time out for your  health too because if anything , being in a stronger spot will allow you to keep the job. Because getting it is just the first step. I know a lot of people who put their health aside for the job and it never pays off. 

I will say that it will be hard to get a job now at the moment. there are a lot of high end industry professionals that are now out of jobs and the competition is going to be rough. But , that doesnt mean give up ! I’d say just use this time to dig into the animation community. join some discords - make some connections - you can still work towards your goals.

one thing i’d keep an eye out on is more specific online courses and or patreons that are in the areas that you are intersted in. As artists find work I imagine a lot of them are going to want to share their skills. I’d put out your portfolio, and try to get industry specific feed back to where you wanna go - and then just make time for building those skills while you wait out this storm. 

And the reality is - this isint an uncommon story. I know a lot of people who have taken a few years to get their foot in the door, and I’ve known people who have gotten a totally different job for a bit and then decided to try for animation again. Theres a lot of verity in the industry and a lot of ways to interact with it. its not as gate keepy as people think it is !  

Ngl my friend, you’ve been dealt a shit hand by the universe. I think a lot of people who graduated in the last 4 years are probably the hardest hit by all this. But - dont let that stop you, its the bleck reality but it just means to be kind to yourself as you keep things going step by step.  I HOPE THIS RAMBLE HELPED IN SOME SMOL WAY FIGHT. WIN.

I need non autistic people to realise meltdowns are a real debilitating thing that has a serious effect on your mental and physical health NOWWWWW!!! The way its been trivialized and lessened pisses me the fuck off. It's not a tantrum and it doesn't come from "being too weak-willed" it's painful and it's embarrassing AND MOST OF ALL IT'S INVOLUNTARY!! Don't claim to be an ally to autistic or disabled people and then make fun of people who have meltdowns. Literally get the hell out of my sight

Today my therapist introduced me to a concept surrounding disability that she called "hLep".

Which is when you - in this case, you are a disabled person - ask someone for help ("I can't drink almond milk so can you get me some whole milk?", or "Please call Donna and ask her to pick up the car for me."), and they say yes, and then they do something that is not what you asked for but is what they think you should have asked for ("I know you said you wanted whole, but I got you skim milk because it's better for you!", "I didn't want to ruin Donna's day by asking her that, so I spent your money on an expensive towing service!") And then if you get annoyed at them for ignoring what you actually asked for - and often it has already happened repeatedly - they get angry because they "were just helping you! You should be grateful!!"

And my therapist pointed out that this is not "help", it's "hLep".

Sure, it looks like help; it kind of sounds like help too; and if it was adjusted just a little bit, it could be help. But it's not help. It's hLep.

At its best, it is patronizing and makes a person feel unvalued and un-listened-to. Always, it reinforces the false idea that disabled people can't be trusted with our own care. And at its worst, it results in disabled people losing our freedom and control over our lives, and also being unable to actually access what we need to survive.

So please, when a disabled person asks you for help on something, don't be a hLeper, be a helper! In other words: they know better than you what they need, and the best way you can honor the trust they've put in you is to believe that!

Also, I want to be very clear that the "getting angry at a disabled person's attempts to point out harmful behavior" part of this makes the whole thing WAY worse. Like it'd be one thing if my roommate bought me some passive-aggressive skim milk, but then they heard what I had to say, and they apologized and did better in the future - our relationship could bounce back from that. But it is very much another thing to have a crying shouting match with someone who is furious at you for saying something they did was ableist. Like, Christ, Jessica, remind me to never ask for your support ever again! You make me feel like if I asked you to call 911, you'd order a pizza because you know I'll feel better once I eat something!!

Kon falls into the ocean, exhausted, and genuinely doesn't think this is going to end well for him. He's gonna faint in the middle of the ocean, where he'll sink to where the sun can't reach him. He won't be able to do the weird photosynthesis thing he and Kal do in space. He's gonna drown. Then he's, like, suddenly Prince Eric? From the Little Mermaid? But the Mermaid is way hotter and also a dude.

He's underwater, and very deep. He can feel himself fading out, black creeping along the edge of his vision.

Then, there's movement.

A very large mermaid - sorry, merdude - with glowing green freckles and crystalline, snowy hair. He's roughly the size of an Orca, and has the coloration of one aside from the freckles and vivid, glowing green eyes.

The merdude reaches out, very gently cradles Kon in his hands, and Kon's exhaustion catches up to him. Kon blacks out.

Kon wakes up on a California beach, alone.

He immediately tries to reach out to Aquaman; he's gotta find that merguy and uh...thank him. Maybe ask him out. He's not sure how he'd date someone the size of an Orca Whale, but he's Superboy; he'll figure it out.

Aquaman has no idea what Superboy is talking about; there is no race of mer that large. He'd know, he's the King of Atlantis. Superboy keeps telling him he's wrong, though.

And the more he looks into it, the more he's hearing rumors of a very large, very ancient mer that spends their time lounging around old shipwrecks.

A mer that disappears the second anyone tries to approach them.

A ghost.

Or; Danny was lazing about in the ocean, searching for treasure from sunken ships (Sam said he needed a hobby), using his larger, slightly more eldrich ghost form with the tail. Call him cringe, but it feels more fitting to be in the ocean with that form. Makes him feel all majestic and the like. He comes across a hero floating in the ocean. One he vaguely recognizes as a member of Young Justice? They're in like...California. Somewhere. He decides to play taxi. There are consequences. One of those consequences may or may not be a date.

What if I told you that RoobrickMarine went and wrote an entire novella starring my 16th century dog couple? It's very canon-adjacent, well researched and thoughtfully put together, has inspired me a ton during these past months and it's now publicly available at AO3. I highly recommend it.

so much happened in this whole episode but i’m still on fig infiltrating ruben’s dream, making it look like the place where his friend was murdered, and then disguising herself as kipperlilly & repeatedly saying different variants of “somebody needs to take the fall for this, and it’s not going to be me. it’s going to be you.” while adaine as the elven oracle shows up next to her. can you imagine waking up from that, the idea of a horrible truth being pinned on you by your friend to save her own skin while the personification of fate and destiny stands there, almost as a promise that this is GOING to happen to you. we don’t even know if this kid is guilty. my god.

as much as i love sam knowing about destiel before dean does, there's something about "i mean yeah my brother and his angel best friend are really weird about each other, live together, co-parent a kid, nearly kill themselves every time the other is gone, stand too close and stare at the other's mouth while they talk, but i mean to each their own i guess??" that's so special to me
