The original Broadway production of Annie opened at the Alvin Theatre on April 21, 1977, and starred Andrea McArdle as Annie, Reid Shelton as Warbucks, Dorothy Loudon as Miss Hannigan, and Robert Fitch as Rooster Hannigan with Barbara Erwin as Lily St. James. It was nominated for eleven Tony Awards and won seven, including the Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book.

Here, Miss Hannigan, Rooster and Lily perform “Easy Street” joined by Annie with Sandy the dog, Daddy Warbucks, and a slew of orphans singing “Tomorrow” on the 1977 Tony Awards.

1890 – in Germany, Dr. Erwin Gohrbandt studied medicine at the Military Medical Academy and graduated in 1917 then worked at the Charité Universitätsmediz inBerlin. He did the initial operations on the first two transsexuals in modern surgery.

In Berlin in 1931, Dora R, born as Rudolph R, became the first known transgender woman to undergo vaginoplasty. According to Dr. Felix Abraham, a psychiatrist working at the Institute for Sexual Science where Dora was employed as a domestic servant, her first step to feminization was made by means of castration in 1922. In 1931 a penis amputation was done, then a highly experimental vaginoplasty was performed by Dr. Erwin Gohrbandt who later became a decorated surgeon-general in the Luftwaffe.

1984 – Brian Joubert is a French figure skater. He is the 2007 World Champion, a three-time European champion (2004, 2007 & 2009), a six-time French National champion, and the 2006 Grand Prix champion.

Joubert was born in Poitiers, France to Jean-Michel and Raymonde Joubert. He suffered a life-threatening illness at the age of 11 months, which led to the removal of one kidney. Because of this illness, Joubert chose figure skating over more violent sports that he favored. He began skating at the age of four with his two older sisters. The siblings started out with Ice dancing, but Joubert became fascinated with the jumping aspect of singles skating and switched disciplines.

Joubert has been considered somewhat of a heartthrob in his native country, France. This reputation has been contributed to by Joubert's short relationship with former Miss France, Lætitia Bléger. He later brought a lawsuit against Bléger for 40,000 Euros for insinuating that he was homosexual and that their relationship was arranged to hide this. Bléger and two magazines that published her allegations were ordered by a French court to pay a total of 17,000 Euros, and to publish the court ruling in one of the two magazines.

1958 – The New York chapter of Daughters Of Bilitis is formed by a group of Lesbians which includes the late Barbara Gittings. For a time, Daughters of Bilitis and The Mattachine Society joined together in "Common Cause". Some women even wrote for Mattachine's ONE Magazine.

As the women's movement began to grow in the U.S., it became apparent that the men of Mattachine showed little desire to champion women's issues. At the same time, the women's movement was not particularly welcoming. The National Organization for Women (N.O.W.) was afraid that Lesbian involvement would only bring further hostility from the media and a male dominated world. They called Lesbians "the lavender menace" and sought to eject them from the movement.

With such choices, the direction of the Daughters of Bilitis was split. Some members favored focusing their energies on Gay rights, while others favored women's issues. Just before the 1970 National Conference of D.O.B., the publishing group for The Ladder was secretly moved to another location and devoted itself to feminist issues instead of Gay issues. The group never really recovered after this, and in time the individual chapters began to die out.

1966 – An Alabama appellate court says that a sodomy case reminded them of "the savage horror practiced by the dwellers of ancient Sodom from which this crime was nominally derived."

1996 – Saudi Arabia: Twenty-four Filipino workers receive the first 50 lashes of their 200-lash sentence for alleged "homosexual behavior." Despite protests from Amnesty International, the government goes ahead with the sentence and later deports the workers.

2011 – The military’s Don't Ask Don't Tell policy is officially repealed. It had been in effect since 1993.

Gemeinsame Initiative zum Schutz der Meere

Mit der Initiierung des „ocean tribute“ Award haben sich die die boot Düsseldorf, die monegassische Fürst Albert II Stiftung und die Deutsche Meeresstiftung ein klares Ziel gesetzt: Menschen, Projekte oder Initiativen bei ihrem Einsatz für den Meeresschutz zu unterstützen. Seit 2018 wird der mit 20.000 € dotierte Preis jährlich im Rahmen der BLUE MOTION NIGHT verliehen. Der diesjährige Preisträger ist das Netzwerk „ECOP AFRICA“ – mit der Vision einer naturbasierten Kohlenstoffentfernung und nachhaltiger Aquakultur in Afrika. Stellvertretend für die Initiative nahm Peter Teye Busumprah aus Ghana den Preis in Empfang. „ECOP AFRICA“ setzt sich für einen gesunden Ozean ein, indem das Netzwerk beispielsweise Meeresökosysteme repariert und neu aufbaut. Die ECOP-Mitglieder aus verschiedensten afrikanischen Ländern entwickeln Strategien zur Unterbindung der illegalen, nicht gemeldeten und unregulierten Fischerei.  Dafür bieten sie eine Echtzeitüberwachung und Strategien für eine nachhaltige Aquakultur an. „ECOP AFRICA“ nutzt zudem das indigene Wissen über die Ozeane und setzt es für Klimaschutzmaßnahmen ein. Nicht zuletzt entwickeln die Mitglieder Kommunikationsprogramme zum Thema Meer, um die Armut in den Ländern zu bekämpfen. Laudator Frank Schweikert, Vorstand Deutsche Meeresstiftung, verkündete das Ergebnis aus Jury- und Public-Voting: „Herzlichen Glückwunsch an ECOP AFRICA und ihr wunderbares Engagement für den Meeresschutz. This little German sci-fi horror B-movie may have slipped past many a monster kid’s radar. In the film, one crazed scientist gets one-upped by an evil scientist who takes not only the first scientist’s life – reducing his life to a head on a plate – but also uses his discoveries to perform some head-swapping shenanigans. This film is strange, bizarre, weird, silly… yet, oddly entertaining. The Grue-Crew has so many thoughts to share regarding The Head (1959).

At the time of this writing, The Head can be found streaming from the Classic Sci-Fi Movie Channel, the Classic Horror Movie Channel, Tubi, and Dark Matter TV. The film is currently available on disc as The Head (1959) (Die Nackte und der Satan) [Blu-Ray, Reg.A/B/C Import – Germany] from Anolis. 

(NOTE: Currently, all of the streaming options are the American version with roughly five minutes cut from the runtime, music substitutions, and English dubbing as the only language option. The Blu-ray has German and English language and subtitle options, the original music, and a commentary by Tim Lucas. The German language version delivers far more emotional impact to the viewer while the English dubbing comes off as a bit flat with awkward and simplified phrasing. And since the music is one of the attractions for me, the Blu-ray is a far better experience, although a bit pricey. – JLM)

Chapter 6 Fieldwork

Introducing my Family 

These are my Great-Great-Grandparents Roger Elliot and Ethel Elliot. They started their family in Erwin, North Carolina . They had 4 boys and 5 girls Barbara, William, Annie, Mabel, Duncan, June, Fred, Della , Aliza. So they had a very large family My great grandmother Mabel Elliot moved from Erwin, North Carolina after having her second child in 1957 she moved to Baltimore, Maryland. My great-grandmother Mabel had 4 children of her own one daughter and three sons : Barbara , Boe , Micheal , and Stanley.  

This is my grandmother Barbara McNeil’s Wedding in 1994 where you can see majority of my aunts and uncles. My grandmother had five children of her own : Leshawn , Shawanda , Sherita , Damon , and Marcus (Sr). This is a great oppurtunity to Catch a moment in time this was 6 years before I was born. 

This is my great-grandfather William (rabbit) McNeil this is my great grandmother Mabels husband he also was located in North Carolina but his family was located in Raleigh , North Carolina . So once they got together and started their family they chose to relocate their family . He passed away In 2005 from an heart attack and liver failure. he was so family oriented we all looked up to him , I have brief memories of him but I definitely remember him.

This was an image from the celebration of my cousin De’aisya Sutton being born in October 1999 . My mother is in the top corner (Brained Bob) and my father is on the floor with ( gold tooth smiling) . This is one of the rare photos with my great-grandparents together . My mother was pregnant with me I was born the following year in July 24th, 2000. 

This is my great grandmother Mabel McNeil, Me and my younger brother Marlon at the bottom of the picture, my father Marcus Sutton Sr on the right of me , and my Uncle Damon Sutton on left side of my great grandmother . 

This is my family My mother Sheba Boozer and my father Marcus Sutton Sr had 5 children : Marcus Sutton Jr (me) , Marlon Sutton, Matthew Sutton, Mason and Madison. My mother tried so hard to have girl and she never gave up and god gave her a set of twins in 2021.

My family both the Elliots and McNeill’s have lived in the United States. Since the 1800′s at least that's how far I can date back. For the longest time they were a southern family located in North Carolina. My family has always embraced American nationalism as African American or Black ; we keep our American nationalism with our family traditions and recipes. For example, we have a yearly family reunion for each side of the family, because my great grandmother doesn't like to leave out of the house we frequently have cook-out’s and gatherings at her house on holidays so that we can still have some family orientation. Being proud of who you are and being confident in everything that you do has always been important rules my family has enforced for generations. I can honestly say this help me get where I am today. My view has not changed on ethnicity and nationalism from my family but I definitely grasped a-lot about family orientation and the representation of phenotypes and genotypes and how strong some of my family’s genes are. Viewing other’s work shows me how other people’s family has a more variety of ethnicity so they have cool background’s and also have family from all over the world.
