Prompt: How the boys act when their S/O is on their period. [Requested by @weebumochi]

Always gets you water and a fresh cup of tea once your cups looks a little low.
Finds out what meals are best for someone on their period and focuses on making those for the week.
You two would make food with beef, eggs, and fish (if you eat them); spinach, squash, and brussel sprouts. All the nutritious stuff. 
And then he would make treats for you, especially dark chocolate on almonds or walnuts. Bring you bananas, berries, figs. You felt like ancient Mesopotamian royalty. All things that were also good for you, but were more traditional period comfort food of “sweet”. 
If you really needed to eat half a family sized bag of barbeque potato chips, he would fetch them and put them in a bowl for you. No questions asked. No movement in the eyebrows. A loving smile as he asks what movie you two were going to watch.
 But for dinner, he’s making something without so much… sodium.

Doesn’t tell you that he knows you’re on your period, but that shit is on the calendar. Doesn’t want to make you feel like he’s all “oh is it that time of the month?”. So he pretends nothing is different.
He’s always so sweet to you, but he’s especially so when you’re on your period.
There are absolutely no gibes or pokes at the tender part of your heart. And whenever you’re most hormonal (which is also on the calendar), he might not tease you at all. Because one time he was a little snarky with you, and normally it would roll right off, but you were just a teensy bit too hormonal. And you got quiet. And your lip quivered. And he didn’t stop apologizing the whole day.
Any shows or movies he normally sighs about (but still sits down and watches… and gets invested in, the lying shit), there is no fussing.
“Alright, lovie, sounds good. Do you want another cuppa while I’m up?”
Need some quiet time by yourself? He has some errands to run, let him know what you want for dinner.
Just does his best to make sure you never feel crazy when you’re on your period.

When the worst of your period comes in, it becomes the typical night in.
The dumbest movies that you two love. Dessert eaten before dinner. Favorite takeout and all the accoutrement available. A glass of wine or some other treat beverage. Matching pajama sets.
Kyle had almost fallen asleep when you massaged a yummy-smelling hair mask into his scalp, and then pulled a ‘oh I was just resting my eyes’. And then he returned the favor, painting a luxurious facial mask on you. Making hearts on your cheeks, then spreading them out. You were fairly sure he drew boobs on your forehead, but then smeared it out and insisted you were just imagining it.
You give each other manicures, and hand feed the other food whilst their nails dried. Kissing chocolate and strawberries off each others lips and chins.
Once his hair was wrapped up, he’s all snuggled up in your arms. The heat and weight of his body against your abdomen was soothing. And the gentle snoring of the love of your life.
Everything he can to make you feel comfortable and attractive in your own skin.

He gets up at the ass crack of dawn to go for a run (like a fucking psycho). Once you wake up, he wants to go to the gym with you. Whether or not you work out, or just poke his butt because it’s funny, he wants you there. But not today. Your cramps, or just the general yuckiness of menstruating, makes you want to not leave the house.
So he hops on the internet, and finds the workouts, stretches, and yoga poses that would help you feel better.
The most gentle workout he’s had in his life. Stretching with the speed of tai chi, leaning against your back and chatting quietly.
Kisses wherever he can reach as you two figure out the yoga poses. Sticks his ass out as far as he can so you’ll poke it. Whistles whenever you begin a pose that’s even marginally suggestive. Waggles his eyebrows and maybe even cops a feel.
Double checks that you aren’t overexerting yourself. Stops for water (and kiss) breaks and asks how you’re feeling. What’s helping, what’s not helping? Time to stop, or keep going?
Helping with the physical and visceral symptoms so you’re more comfortable.

If he can, he’s clearing the schedule for the worst day of the week. Does grocery shopping and laundry before, so there is essentially nothing to do that day when Mother Nature is curb-stomping you.
Spoils you with a long lie-in. The sun has long since come up by the time you wake up to massages and kisses.
You join him for breakfast and a quick rinse off shower, and then you two crawl right back into bed. Leaning against him as he kneads the skin and muscles of your abdomen or back, a movie or the radio as ambient noise.
Maybe you fall back asleep. Maybe you watch an entire TV show. Maybe you putter about and do some light home-making. The goal is that you are fully rested.
I bet science says that you can’t “catch up on sleep”, but it’s still nice to have a day where you sleep for most of it. Especially when it’s curled up in bed with your sweet lover. His hands on you for the entire day, closely followed by his lips.
His whole body squeezing you tight when you try to leave, and wrapping around you again once you return.
Just physically reminding you of how much he loves you.

Once he sees a menstrual product wrapper in the bathroom trash can, he’s off to make the most professional grocery run you’ve ever seen.
Knows exactly which products you use, and checks which are low. Buys the right medications or products. The snacks that you love (that won’t betray you later with a stomach ache), and the little drink treat that’s for special occasions. 
You swear that he hears the crinkle of a wrapper in the bathroom and marches to the store.
Puts the groceries away while you’re finishing up the breakfast dishes and then offers you the little beverage and maybe a treat.
He guides you to the couch or back to bed, sidling up next to or behind you and kisses you deeply. Arms roaming and then settling in a way that keeps you as close as possible. Pressing against you as if you could become one.
Cuddles in the way that is most comfortable, whether you’re in his lap or laying down. Kisses you all over. Hand feeds you until you’re giggling too hard.
He never wants you to run out of the supplies you need, or feel any less sexy while menstruating. Because you are always so sexy to him.

"In response to last year’s record-breaking heat due to El Niño and impacts from climate change, Indigenous Zenù farmers in Colombia are trying to revive the cultivation of traditional climate-resilient seeds and agroecology systems.
One traditional farming system combines farming with fishing: locals fish during the rainy season when water levels are high, and farm during the dry season on the fertile soils left by the receding water.
Locals and ecologists say conflicts over land with surrounding plantation owners, cattle ranchers and mines are also worsening the impacts of the climate crisis.
To protect their land, the Zenù reserve, which is today surrounded by monoculture plantations, was in 2005 declared the first Colombian territory free from GMOs.

In the Zenù reserve, issues with the weather, climate or soil are spread by word of mouth between farmers, or on La Positiva 103.0, a community agroecology radio station. And what’s been on every farmer’s mind is last year’s record-breaking heat and droughts. Both of these were charged by the twin impacts of climate change and a newly developing El Niño, a naturally occurring warmer period that last occurred here in 2016, say climate scientists.
Experts from Colombia’s Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies say the impacts of El Niño will be felt in Colombia until April 2024, adding to farmers’ concerns. Other scientists forecast June to August may be even hotter than 2023, and the next five years could be the hottest on record. On Jan. 24, President Gustavo Petro said he will declare wildfires a natural disaster, following an increase in forest fires that scientists attribute to the effects of El Niño.
In the face of these changes, Zenù farmers are trying to revive traditional agricultural practices like ancestral seed conservation and a unique agroecology system.

“Climate change is scary due to the possibility of food scarcity,” says Rodrigo Hernandez, a local authority with the Santa Isabel community. “Our ancestral seeds offer a solution as more resistant to climate change.”
Based on their experience, farmers say their ancestral seed varieties are more resistant to high temperatures compared to the imported varieties and cultivars they currently use. These ancestral varieties have adapted to the region’s ecosystem and require less water, they tell Mongabay. According to a report by local organization Grupo Semillas and development foundation SWISSAID, indigenous corn varieties like blaquito are more resistant to the heat, cariaco tolerates drought easily, and negrito is very resistant to high temperatures.
The Zenù diet still incorporates the traditional diversity of seeds, plant varieties and animals they consume, though they too are threatened by climate change: from fish recipes made from bocachico (Prochilodus magdalenae), and reptiles like the babilla or spectacled caiman (Caiman crocodilus), to different corn varieties to prepare arepas (cornmeal cakes), liquor, cheeses and soups.
“The most important challenge we have now is to save ancient species and involve new generations in ancestral practice,” says Sonia Rocha Marquez, a professor of social sciences at Sinù University in the city of Montería.

Located near Gil’s house, the seed bank hosts a rainbow of 12 corn varieties, from glistening black to blue to light pink to purple and even white. There are also jars of seeds for local varieties of beans, eggplants, pumpkins and aromatic herbs, some stored in refrigerators. All are ancient varieties shared between local families.
Outside the seed bank is a terrace where chickens and turkeys graze under an agroforestry system for farmers to emulate: local varieties of passion fruit, papaya and banana trees grow above bushes of ají peppers and beans. Traditional medicinal herbs like toronjil or lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) form part of the undergrowth.
Today, 25 families are involved in sharing, storing and commercializing the seeds of 32 rare or almost-extinct varieties.
“When I was a kid, my father brought me to the farm to participate in recovering the land,” says Nilvadys Arrieta, 56, a farmer member of ASPROAL. “Now, I still act with the same collective thinking that moves what we are doing.”
“Working together helps us to save, share more seeds, and sell at fair price [while] avoiding intermediaries and increasing families’ incomes,” Gil says. “Last year, we sold 8 million seeds to organic restaurants in Bogotà and Medellín.”
So far, the 80% of the farmers families living in the Zenù reserve participate in both the agroecology and seed revival projects, he adds."

The sound of voices filled your home as the ladies chatted in your parlor.
“Oh honey is that peach cobbler? Why you would think it was Sunday with the spread you made.” Agnise said as you came from the kitchen with the dish and placed it on the dessert table, causing all the ladies to turn to you.
You had finger sandwiches filled with ham, beignets, one too many cakes, banana pudding, sweet tea and lemonade.
You were in a baking mood and since it was just high noon, you kept it lite for today’s meeting.
You let out a laugh “oh it was nothin’. Thought we deserved a treat since the last time we saw each other. We housewives deserve a little sugar sometimes.” The ladies giggled at your comment.
Grabbing a sandwich, you took a seat by Rosie, “Now what were y’all talking about while i was in the kitchen?”
”Abi was telling us the Smiths youngest was found in bed with that scrappy gent that worked down at the mill” Rosie said, sipping her tea. You gasped, hand over your heart “Ain’t that girl engaged to um oh what that boy’s name?” You snapped your fingers trying to think
”David Johnson” Abigail snickered “Just know Old smith threw a fit. I heard her mother went crying to the church shouting. Ooooh must have been real bad”
Agnise chimed in “Also Harriet told me that Elaine is expecting…and it ain’t her husband’s” shocked gasps filled the room. “Elaine? As in love the church, has three youngins Elaine? Oh that poor woman I don’t know how she do it” Rosie shuddered. Abigail smirked “Yeah poor Elaine, so who’s the father?”
Agnise chuckled “Take a guess”
Literally you, Rosie, and Abigail looked to each other puzzled.
”Pastor Brown from the next town over”  Agnise said.
squeals and laughs erupted from all of you.
You shook with laughter as you took a deep breathe. “Ok ok enough of that. How have y’all been?”
Rosie was running a boutique, New Orleans finest clothes and it was really taking off. She talked about how some cheap fabrics came in and she ain’t have a clue what to do with them.
Agnise happily chirped about how her two oldest had got accepted in some fancy school on the other of town.
Abigail complained that she thought the maid was stealing her clothes, claiming too many of her fine dresses were missing out of her closet.
”Oh dear how is that handsome husband of yours? I was hoping to the man when I was coming in.” Rosie said smiling. 
Rosie and Alastor were the closest besides Mimzy. He often dropped by to have her make your clothes and tailor some of his suits.
”Oh you know how Alastor is” you waved your hand, “he set out early this morning to the radio station. We’re suppose to down to Mimzy’s club tonight”
Agnise and Abigail looked at you shocked “That ol rigity joint? Oh darling no. That man makes good money, why y’all going down there?”
You had met Agnise and Abigail when you were in school.  They were a bit more Polish than Rosie who didn’t mind a good time.
”I think that lounge is rather charming. The music is good.” You defended.
”Well enjoy it now, I had a dream bout fishes and you know what that mean” Agnise said, giving you a knowing look.
You blinked, then blushed, taking a sip of tea. “I don’t know what you’re talking about” you feigned dumb.
She smirked, red lips curling “You’ve been hiding news from us haven’t you?”
Abigail looked at you, “Are you?”her honey eyes roamed over your figure.
”Ladies no! I’ve told y’all me and Alastor haven’t discussed children. We don’t have time for that” you said pouting at their accusations.
”What man don’t want his own running around? The two of you been married for a few years now, i had half expected at least something.” Agnise said.
”Alastor has just settled in good as radio host. What kind of wife would I be if I just randomly suggested having a little one running around? No I couldn’t.” You gripped your cup, looking down.
You and Alastor hadn’t really discussed children. You figured you would wait a few years to get settled into your marriage before thinking of children.
With alastor’s career taking off, you didn’t have it in you to just spring the notion on him.
You didn’t mind. It was quite nice not having to clean and look after a baby.
BUT 
You did want to potentially have children with Alastor.
The house would be a lot livier and you thought Alastor would make a great father.
”Y’all ain’t getting any younger dear!” Agnise said “i mean unless there’s a another woman invovled”
Rosie let out a hiss, glaring at the woman “Oh shush that! Alastor wouldn’t do that! He loves his wife too much to even look at another woman”
Agnise shrugged.
Abigail patted your hand “Honey don’t listen to her. I am sure you’ll have a whole litter running around afterwhile. Not having children ain’t all that grand.”
You pouted. That did not make you feel better.
Rosie seeemd to pick on up your down mood and interjected
”We came to discuss books! Enough of this husband and children talk! So we left off at Charles securing the mistress!”
The little gathering went on without a problem, but the comments and conversation still bounced in your head. 
Alastor wouldn’t seek out another woman just because I haven’t…right?
You and Alastor’s intimate life was fine to your knowledge.
 The man wasn’t the most affectionate, but he did try. 
He was loving and gave you anything you wanted.
THATS what any wife wanted right?
Not having children didn’t seem to make him any less doting with you.
But you still felt that nagging doubt as you tried to reassure yourself.
”Bye now! Tell Nathaniel I said hello and Abi please just see if the maid took your dress!”you hollered from your porch, waving the ladies as they smiled and walked down the street.
You sighed. Rosie had stayed behind and was cleaning up.
”oh Rosie you’re a guest please let me” you said grabbing the dirty dishes.
”I’ve been here so much this is practically my home girl please.”she laughed as she grabbed the tablecloth and put in in the hamper.
”Those two are certainly a handful. Don’t take what they said to heart. They are just bitter their husbands don’t love on them like yours” she chided.
You hummed. Rosie was right. What did it matter that you didn’t have kids? That didn’t change anything.
”I know Ro but I feel like I’m failing as a wife. But i promise I’m fine I swear” you quickly said as she gave you a look.
She looked at the clock “Oh my well look at the time! Do give Alastor my love dear”
You gave her a hug and walked her out, waving her goodbye as she waltzed down the road.
You were now alone.
The house was quiet and you had cleaned up everything so you wouldn’t have to look at the mess in the morning.
You rolled your shoulders, sighing at the tension and decided a quick nap wouldn’t hurt as you wait for Alastor to come home.

The sun began to slowly set through the trees as Alastor ran a bloody hand through his hair, the brown strands slicking back as he breathed deeply. The man had put up quite a fight, but luckily Alastor could quickly deal with his little problem. 
He had planned to take his wife out for tonight, but with the way he was feeling, he would rather be in your embrace and sleep.
He would stop and get you your favorite flowers as an apology and maybe cook for you instead. A soft smile appeared on his face as he imagined your face as he came in with flowers and kissed your soft lips as he propose hell cook for dinner.
Soft jazz would be playing and after the meal he would ask you to dance. Peppering your face in kisses as you laughed at him, thinking he was silly.
And maybe afterwards, he could indulge himself in you. A shiver ran through his body at the thought of your face contorted in pleasure. 
Oh yes he was sure you wouldn’t mind why he came home late
He hid away his shovel in an old storage house and changed clothes.
Getting in his car, he hummed along to the radio as he thought of what to make for dinner.

Alastor softly closed the back door as he slowly set down the flowers and groceries. He peeked his head in the parlor and found you sleeping on the couch.
He quickly made his way upstairs, hid his clothes in the back of your closet, showered, and went back down stairs.
He grabbed the flowers and slowly slid beside you, pulling you into his lap.
You snuggled into his neck, eyebrows scrunching, waking up ”hmmm Alastor?” you groaned as he snickered. He pressed his lips to your plump cheek “Seems my darling wife had a very long day. Seems I got caught up at work and didn’t catch the time. But…” he pressed the flowers to your nose as you took a deep inhale of the flowers, smiling “I do hope you would forgive dear.”
Your heart fluttered at the man, standing to put the bouquet in a vase.
You caught sight of the time and gasped “oh no! I can’t believe I fell asleep for that long, lord on high I ain’t got a single thing out to cook.” You went to make your way to the kitchen, but Alastor was quick to wrap his arm around you, pulling you into his lanky frame. “Don’t you worry about dinner darlin’ I got it. I had promised you a night out and forgot. So to pay for my offense Ill cook dinner and why don’t you go upstairs and put on something pretty  for me hmm?” He pressed a few soft kisses along the column of your neck, making your breath hitch slightly, before patting your ass to get you moving towards the stairs.
Once you made it back downstairs, the smell of dinner made your stomach growl.
Alastor was just setting th plates as you entered the kitchen. “Book club must have been something today, I see you baked a lot of goods today. Good thing I checked before thinking of making dessert” He turned to actually look at you.
Gorgeous is what he thought as he took you in.
You opted for a simple slip dress that fell just before your knees. How enticing.
 You accessorized with your pearls and even had your hair curled slightly.
He couldn’t help but wrap his arms around your waist and bring a hand to his lips, kissing it as he looked at you with utter devotion.
”My my don’t you look lovely dear” he whistled, twirling you around slowly.
You blushed and looked towards the stove “Dinner smells great Al, what did you make?” He ushered you to the dining table and pulled you chair out for you to sit before fetching tonight’s dinner.
Shrimp and grits in one bowl and jambalaya.
For dessert he took a piece of butter cake that you made earlier and chilled sweet tea and lemonade.
You moaned in delight as the flavor of the jambalaya burned your mouth. “Oh Al! You added a bit more spice this time but it goes good with the grits. oh i love your jambalaya.” You praised him.
You practically danced in your seat as you ate causing Alastor to chuckle.
”I never tire of your praise for my mother’s recipe my dear. I must say this cake might just be my new favorite” he said.
You decided to fill him the latest gossip you heard today from the ladies
”Rosie sends her love by the way. Oh you would not believe what Agnise told us today…” you started.
Alastor had a lazy smile on his face as you talked animatedly about todays gossip. He nodded along and even gasped at the details you shared. You made him swear he wont repeat it anywhere, including on the radio.
You took a sip of lemonade ”Agnise made a comment that she was surprised we haven’t had kids yet. Can you believe that woman?” Alastor tilted his head “I wouldn’t put it pass that one. Well what did you say?”
Alastor asked taking in your reaction as you pouted, swirling your fork in your grits before stabbing a shrimp. You sighed “I told her that we just weren’t ready. I mean you just got settled in at the studio good. Then the nerve of that woman to say that you were probably seeing another because I wasn’t putting out.” You mumbled that part, feeling  pinges of doubt start to rise in you as you looked at him.
Alastor scoffed “darling I only ever had eyes for you” he reached across the table to grasp your hand, thumb fiddling with your wedding ring. “Nothing will make me look at you different. To me, you’re perfect. You are much more than I could ever deserve” he smiled at you. “Do you want children darlin?” He asked.
You blinked, a warm blush crept up your cheeks “I-I mean it might has crossed my mind once of twice, but I-I dont know” you looked away, feeling shy.
Alastor grinned “I think you would make a wonderful mother my dear. Through I will admit having to share you i dont know about that” he laughed “buuuuut if having children will make you happy, who am I to say no?” His voice dropped an octave as he smiled at you.
You were shocked. You hadn’t thought that Alastor would be open to having children. But you didn’t just want to have kids because of social pressure. You wanted it to be something you were sure of…
”Its a big responsibility if we have children Al”you whispered. He hummed, shrugging “Dear I make more than enough that our children will have comfortable upbringing, besides Ill be there the whole step of the way”
That reassurance made your heart swell.
You smiled, a soft laugh bubbling out of your chest “Then I guess well see what happens then huh?”

Merrick HeadCanons: General Things Vol. 1
Let's talk about our favorite grouchy pep pep, shall we?
Merrick is a fruit guy. What I mean by this is that you'll see him chomping down on a banana or apple as a snack. He always has a fresh fruit somewhere nearby.
Loud as fuck sneezes.
This guy has a wealth of knowledge about illicit activities. Want to know how to hot wire a car? Ask him...but you'll probably be too intimidated to do so.
Breakfast king! This guy loves breakfast and when he's in the mood, he goes all out. You're getting a full spread with him.
Was a coffee drinker but his doctors told him to cut it out due to health reasons. They told him to switch to green tea which he actually, surprisingly, enjoys.
Big ol' dog daddy! When Hesh is away, Merrick watches & cares for Riley. He plays Frisbee with him in the park. Keegan sometimes joins too.
Despite being the more serious member of the Ghosts, Merrick has a soft spot for children.
If he shaves, he uses a safety razor.
His all time favorite meal is pot roast with apple pie a la mode. The Ghost boys will always make this for him when his birthday rolls around.
It's rumored that he does talk baby talk to Riley. Logan swears he heard it once but it has been unconfirmed.
Merrick always smells like Irish Spring soap even though he doesn't use it.
Owns a pair of Crocs. "They're my lawn shoes!"
Gives the best Christmas presents. In fact, Christmas is always held at his place. It was a tradition that was started by his late wife and he keeps it going in her honor. The Ghost boys do it to honor her memory too as she was very supportive of all of them.
Likes to go fishing and actually knows how to noodle for fish (noodling is catching a fish with your bare hands).
Always wears socks and hardly ever walks around barefoot. Merrick even saves those anti-slip socks you get at the hospital. "They have to be good if they're hospital grade."
His favorite season is summer. Despite being a grump, he does enjoy tubing down the river with the Ghost boys.

Season 2 and an OVA are coming (eventually)! Which is more than we can say for other series' so I'm going to remain delusionally hopeful. I think it'd be nice if, instead of announcing long awaited continuations, new seasons dropped like Beyonce albums. Without warning and like an unexpected blessing. Just like this ask so thank you for reaching out!

FAVORITE CHARACTER
Sk8 has a wonderful band of idiots who I adore but Cherry is, by far, my favorite. Most specifically through the interactions he has with Joe because they are just so catty and mean to one another but you just know it belies an affection from their entrenched history together whether you consider them a ship them or not.
I love that Cherry had this rebellious era and continues to do so as a respectable adult while juggling such a disciplined craft and career. Like, that dichotomy is just 😘👌🏾. Goals, honestly. He maintains this split by ensuring that his S persona and his everyday persona remain mutually exclusive similar to how Adam conducts himself. Which, now that I'm thinking about it, might be kind of sad but he is, somewhat, of a man of contrasts.
Like, the way his talents splinter is so interesting. He is a founding member of S wherein he remains a threat, an established and respected calligrapher... plus, I feel like he customized Carla himself. What a nerd! Plus, Cherry is so gender. ✨
THOUGHTS ON SHIPS
Reki & Langa - idiot x idiot, I love it? But also, how silly to show someone something you love so intensely only for that love to envelope them so completely. Both in how they receive your hobby but also in how they just become a part of your life. Plus, Langa sees Reki's strengths that he takes for granted and its so necessary because they both think the sun shines out of each others' ass. Also, I see them as a reincarnation of AshEiji from Banana Fish.
Cherry & Joe - Yes. Was that not evident from above? Yes. They fight like an old (and sassy) married couple and then will have a moment of saccharine sweetness that's just... too much. There's also a hilarious sense of patience Joe must have to adapt to Cherry vs. Kaoru and its more evident because there's who the pair are when they are around others, regardless of who the others are, and then who they are when they're alone. Like, why put on the act, guys? Just kiss already.
Adam & Tadashi - As long as it's consensual, I guess, but I'm sure Tadashi could do better.
Oka & Shadow - Okay, but go with me here. Please thank the chokehold umikochannart had on keeping this ship sailing before they wiped their IG of all evidence.

FAVORITE MOMENTS
"Push me, Reki." - needs no explanation.
Reki defending Miya's honor - When you see Miya's backstory, his isolation is really sad and makes him vulnerable to Adam's predation but Reki punched well above his weight to defend Miya and it effectively brought the kid into the fold and I loved that. And that's on the power of friendship. ✨ Reki really subjugated everyone in that friend group and is not appreciated enough for it.
When everyone cockblocked Joe - Not every show needs a beach episode. This one does.
Sia La Luce after hours - the fact that Kaoru, after being bride carried by Joe, broke out of the hospital just to go running back to Joe is just so... beautifully chaotic and unexpected. Add a zest of Jonah Scott murmuring "We're not alone, right, Kaoru?" and I am undone.
When the might of Reki's rain wheels kicked in - Overcame insecurity by utilizing the gift he'd had all along? AGH. So perfect, so proud.
When Reki's laughter melts into that of young Adam's - only because that was really sweet
Not in the show but: sharing this series with my niece and nephew and them loving it just as much as I do. They're pretty young so the Venn Diagram of "Shows I Love" vs "Shows I Can Share With Them As A Discerning Adult" has a pretty narrow overlap. So imagine my surprise when my nephew randomly makes a SK8 joke or observation or when my niece drew fan art of Carla? We also sing and dance and laugh during the intro and outtro so I hope they remember the series affectionately when they're older.

Maria has Good Days and Bad Days when it comes to her chronic illness, and she can tell well enough for herself which day is which. Unfortunately, her grandfather feels that he knows better than she does, and when he uses his authority to determine that against Maria's own feelings and wishes, it falls to Shadow to help her feel better. [Pre-Canon, hurt/comfort]
“And here, here, look—look at all the different fish and plants that live in the reef! It’s a completely unique ecosystem, and some of those plants aren’t actually plants at all—they’re animals!”
Shadow leaned closer as Maria jabbed her finger against the glossy photo in her book, tilting it his way so that he could get a better view of it.
“If this is all underwater, how did they take these pictures?”
“Well, there are robots that are capable of diving to great depths underwater, and those robots often have cameras attached to them,” Maria said. “But the pictures in this book were taken by an actual person in SCUBA equipment using a waterproof camera.”
“What’s SCUBA?”
Maria’s eyes lit up, her cheeks flushed with excitement.
This was not an usual occurrence aboard the Space Colony ARK. There were days, of course—Bad Days, as Maria called them—when Maria was either in medical examinations all day, or Worse Days when she felt too ill to get out of bed. But on Normal Days or Good Days she was free to roam about the Colony, and on those days she and Shadow could do just about whatever they liked so long as the Professor didn’t deem it too dangerous for Maria’s health and didn’t need Shadow for anything else. There were any number of games they liked to play or things they could do, but Maria’s absolute favorite was when a new shipment of books came in from Earth; she would comb through them to excavate any and all about geography or culture, and then read through them with Shadow by her side. It was educational, she said, and important groundwork for when she was cured and finally able to go to Earth herself. There was so much to do on Earth, it was important to know all about it before she got there so she could hit the ground running.
Today they were in the Professor’s lab, seated on a squishy loveseat in the corner that the Professor put there specifically for Maria while he poured over vaccine samples from Earth at his work bench. Maria had her newest book, Twenty Thousand Wonders of the Sea, spread open across her lap, and a half-finished healthy smoothie on the little table beside the sofa.
(Shadow himself wasn’t so neat; he had dropped his empty banana peel on the floor. He made a mental note to pick it up before the Professor noticed later.)

i.
Lewis is always tuned into the direction of the ocean. Anytime you ask him, anywhere, he can gesture to a particular direction, tell you how far away it is. You were a fish in another life, you tell him, licking the salt water off him after he collapses on the beach next to you. Maybe, he muses, shaking out his wet hair, only if you were there.
ii.
For a weekend, you go to the coast. A spot that’s quiet, far from town, but the surf is good, the waves constant. Some of his friends come, and the house is sprawling across the dunes, all wood and overhanging balconies. It’s too cold to sunbathe, walk through the shallows, so you bring a stack of books, drink a lot of tea, listen to the ocean. Lewis sleeps better than he has in months, the window open for the sound of the repetitive pattern of waves. He wakes you, gently, in the mornings. The windows steamed up with condensation, rain on the roof. His warm body snuggled up to yours, lazy kisses under your ear, down to your collarbone.
 “Good morning,” you rasp, not sure if it’s a dream or real. The cold air outside the bedclothes is biting. His hands are hot on your tummy, up under your t-shirt.
 “You were dreaming about me,” Lewis tells you, his mouth under your jaw now, up to your cheek, his eyelashes fluttering on the skin of your nose.
 “How do you know?”
 “You were saying my name,” he murmurs, and you flush, remembering why you were calling for him, the dream returning in hazy snatches as you start to wake up. He kisses you softly, your top lip between his, lingering. Your body hums in response, a current of energy that connects you to him.
 “And because of this,” Lewis says, his hand slipping down your belly, into your underwear, to hold where you’re already hot and pulsing. You don’t need him to tell you, it’s easy enough to know from the way his finger slips into you. You’re wet already, had dreamt of him doing this, somewhere nameless, a memory more than anything. You could be embarrassed, deny it, but your body makes the decision for you, arching up into his hand. Lewis laughs, but it’s fond, and he dips his face to kiss you properly.
iii.
You sit on the beach in one of Lewis’ big coats, bare feet in the sand. Your book lies open, but abandoned, pages fluttering in the wind. A thermos of tea is half buried in the sand beside you. You watch Lewis surf, slick and graceful in his wetsuit, shining wet. You hadn’t expected it to be this captivating, the elegant dance of it, his strength working in tandem with the power of the ocean. When he catches a good wave, his whooping is carried to you on the shore by the wind, the laughter of his friends. He’s better than most of them, jumps to an easy crouch on the board, flies through the tunnel of froth to emerge victorious at the end of the wave. You could write poetry about it, the way he moves, the endless roaring of the waves, the grey clouds, gaps of sunshine breaking through.
They call out to each other as they paddle out for the next set, bobbing black shapes as they crest each ignore wave, patient. Finally turning to catch the perfect one, angling the surfboard just right, Lewis seemingly in control of every moment, what you know must be quick actions seem slow, like he has all the time in the world to get to his feet, balanced perfectly. The lip of the wave curls, and he powers down the body of it, zig zagging across, leaving currents in his wake. It curves over him, the tunnel, and just at the last second he emerges from the whitewash, grinning. Even from the beach, you can hear him laughing.
iv.
Before dinner he drives you out to the point. The rental car is a mammoth of a four wheel drive, but Lewis controls it easily. It’s distracting, watch him drive, always. The flex of his hand, the crook of his neck when he checks his blindspot. He’s packed good red wine and vegan banana bread, spreads a blanket out over a flat rock. He’s boyishly proud of his makeshift picnic, overlooking the crashing ocean, roiled by a coming storm. The sun sets in reds and pinks, overtaking the whole sky. Lewis takes a picture of you standing in front of it, a silhouette, puts it on his Instagram story and then hides his phone somewhere it won’t distract him. When you walk back to him on the rock, he reaches out, pulls you down to kiss him. His face is warm, even in the cold wind, and you crawl into his lap, face in his shoulder, held like a small child. You can feel his heart beating. You could sit here forever, listening to the waves, wind pulling at your hair, but hidden in the warmth of him. Still, time passes, and you want more wine, emerging from his chest to find your glass. Lewis watches you sip, kisses your red mouth after, licks the taste out of you. Your legs either side of his waist, still in his lap, grinding down onto him like two teenagers hooking up on the cliff. You shiver when he takes your jumper off, so he carries you to the car, lies you out in the backseat, kneeling between your legs. It’s cramped, and heartbreakingly intimate, the wind battering the car, Lewis breathing hot air onto your cold skin. There’s no rush, nowhere to be, no one waiting. Just Lewis taking his time undressing you, helping you wriggle out of jeans, covering your body with his so you don’t get chilly. He kisses you for a long time, his hand between your legs, working you into something mindless and messy, wriggling under him, mouth by his ear saying more, more, more. Eventually, he gives in, everything almost too humid in the car now, slick bodies. The heaviness of him over you, the way he shakes as he guides himself inside you, sighs into your mouth, has to hold himself still so as not to lose control.
 Your face pressed into his neck, breathing him in, sweat and the ocean, so familiar, so safe in the car. Surrounded by him, knowing nothing but him and how he makes you feel,
 “Is that good?” He asks, his voice rough, “Does that feel good?”
 “Yes,” you whisper, hands sliding over his back, pulling him closer, “Yes.”
v.
“Look what you do to me,” Lewis tells you, one afternoon when you’re alone in the house. His friends have gone home now the weekend has passed, but Lewis wants to stay a few more days, just you and me, he’d said, and you tried to hide how much your heart swelled. The remnants of a Monopoly game are strewn across the coffee table, all the properties with houses on Lewis’. He’d bankrupted you, and asked for you to pay him in a different way, suggested that then maybe he’d let you go debt free. You’d find his deal creepy from anyone else, but for Lewis you’d scrambled up onto the couch with him, eager to please. You’ve barely kissed when he’s pulling your hand to his lap, the already hard length of him in his sweatpants.
 “See?” He says.
You can’t help but laugh at him, if only from the pleasantness of being reminded of how human he is, how his body reacts to you. Just from a kiss, a touch. It’s nice to know you’re wanted just as much as you want. He rolls his eyes at your teasing, but it’s cut off when you bow your head, pull him out of his pants and spit on the wet, pink head of him, watching it drool down the shaft. Lewis groans, and his hand twists into your hair.
 “Baby,” he says, and then seems to lose all language skill as you sink your mouth down onto him, tucking him into  your throat, your hands around the base of him, down to cradle his balls, pulled up tight and close to him. Lewis has slumped into the couch, the tense muscles of his belly on show as you blow him, messy and wet and filthy. His breath stutters when you gag around him, spit dribbling out of your mouth, go back for more. The house sits on the bluff, so you can sit wrapped in blankets on the front porch watching the sea while Lewis boils the kettle. You’ve been trying to count all the different colours of blue the ocean produces, your phone full of pictures of waves breaking. On your walk this morning Lewis had written your names in a big love heart on the sand. Stood with you in the water up to your ankles and kissed you in front of it. Gonna love you forever, he told you, tucked your hair behind your ears, can’t wait.
 Now, he brings you a steaming cup of peppermint tea, ginger for him. You curl into his side on the driftwood couch, mug held carefully in your hands. Lewis kisses the top of your head, smoothes his hand down the back of your head to tuck you in closer.
 “I put cold water in for you,” he says, and you smile over the rim of your mug, just how he knows you like it, ready to drink. You watch him watch the waves roll in, a peaceful, calm expression on his face. He wants to teach you how to surf, he says, but it’s too rough here. He’ll take you somewhere different, somewhere warm, like Hawaii, next month, and teach you properly. The relaxation is easy to melt into, sat with him on the couch, sipping tea, smelling the ocean. The silence is warm and soothing. No need to break it. Comforting just to sit in the quiet, lean into each other.
 He gets fidgety, eventually, always needs something to do. When he kisses you, he tastes like ginger, warm and bitter. Your fingers close around the soft fabric of his hoodie, drawing him in. His big hands are warm on your face, your neck, kisses you and kisses you like he could sit here forever, sucking your lip into his mouth. There’s no one around, no reason to stop, when he gets his hand in your sweatpants, rubs his fingers over you. Gasping in ocean air as he fucks his fingers into you, slow and steady, curling them inside you into the spot that makes your eyes squeeze shut.
 “You’re so gorgeous,” he tells you, in this soft voice that seeps its way all through your body. When you come, you see the whitewash of a crashing wave behind your ears, hear it, Lewis’ body sheltering you from the cold.

Unlike the original, I could not list canonically suggested food and ingredients, nor every codex, item, letter, ect in the sources. Because it was too long. I did add them to the individual post.

Dragon’s Piss - The name is probably figurative, but no one knows for sure. BioWare gives the “recipe” for Dragon Piss as “1 oz light rum, 1 oz dark rum, filled with iced tea”. "Dragon's Breath" is offered as an alternative name for this drink as it is served while lit on fire in the glass and burns on the way down.
The Golden Nug - Made with a base of effervescent white Seleney wine, sweetened with a dash of West Hill brandy and a splash of pomegranate juice. Muddled with raspberries and garnished with a sprig of Royal Elfroot. The goal is to imitate the soft pink colour of a nug.

something about breakfast and meals and food in the marvin trilogy. upside down like a ladle pouring soup. the oldest drinks wine, the baby is wailing. drunk and self indulgent. marvin always eats the finest breakfast in town. my stomach aches. some chatter and some gruel, make me wanna drool, try to make me hungry. i need my breakfast now! she’s an actor from the old school and a lousy chef, i don’t want miracles from heaven just some eggies over spinach over toast. she can’t cook but have you seen her milk a cow? life is rotten. when i say breakfast i mean food. a breakfast over sugar. please drink your tea before it’s cold. pass the sugar, please. i hate his food. is he better than banana? the throwing up, the shame, the silent prayers, the nausea. i got my breakfast, the likes of which you’ve never seen. wash my face then drink beer. then i eat. and jessie blew her meal. same folk acting like from different cultures as they chew their food completely out of sync. we offer food and drinks. we all eat as one. i loves the way they cook linguine. now to make bread, loosen your glands. he filled my coats with candies and notes. i have something rotten. as i put the steak in, i bring home the bacon. love me, feed me. see how quickly he sours. what i love i devour. he makes me smile a lot, especially at mealtime. late for dinner late again. whizzers supposed to always be here making dinner. chop chop chop chop. i was supposed to make the dinner. make it pretty on his plate. have it ready, make it tasty. let me turn on the gas. banana carrot surprise. such a romantic table, knives in place, lots of space to spread out and eat. gourmet version of chicken marengo, took me all day, i’ll say it was worth the time, i lie. i don’t eat at all in times like these. someone’s brought your dinner, someone bringing you your lunch. and throw their knives. have a little scotch. clip the coupons, make the dinner, and love him. we’ll buy the cheese. afternoons we make hors d’oeuvres. baking the bread, sharpening knives. i bathe and drink tea. what i’ve done to you is rotten. shiksa caterer. can we consider who’s gonna cater? delicious food for you, nouvelle bar mitzvah cuisine. dietetic knishes, food that’s from the heart. take a bite and see. there’ll be food like food never before. looking at whizzer is like eating treyf. sweeter than a donut. she saves lives and i save chicken fat. i want lobster. catered kosher! i want the applebaums. don’t talk to me about taste. i cant eat breakfast. and its something i cooked. she ate the food and she got sick. rugelach, gefilte fish. in a kosher morass. try my chicken soup. we’re both gonna cure you, me with my soup, she with her medication. kneidlach. drink a little something til you’re dead. gee, we love to eat and we need something sweet. i’ll be eating hors d'oeuvres. i’ll unwrap the billion hors d’oeuvres and someone please eat them. champagne makes things lovely. drink up, anyone for bubbly? cheers. it’s me who should toast him. i passed around the food then dumped some extra food ‘cause lord knows we’ve got plenty. she’s cooked for some 200 guests. the food tastes really yummy. the wine is very soothing. i feel more rotten than i have in years. meanwhile though it’s tears and schmaltz. who would i feast my eyes on?

Food in Nora's Return (in mostly reverse order of appearance)
On Nora’s, she found a mound of lavender-scented rice, shredded lamb, fire-burnt leeks, and coins of pumpkin with two sauces on the side: mint and lavender-sage. Gabriel’s plate did not resemble hers at all, save for the fragrant rice. His meat was flakes of white fish mixed with lemons and zested with orange.

“What are we going to do when we see them?” Gabriel asked. He tore the spongy teff bread into tiny pieces, dropping them into the thick stew of tomatoes, peppers, and shredded duck. Nora spooned some of the stew onto her bread. “Act as we always do.

For the first time Nora could remember, when she walked downstairs for breakfast, Ambrose was waiting for her. He held one large tray carrying two small bowls of a rice porridge with many small bowls holding different fruits and spices and two cups of rice milk.

“Sorry for stopping by so late,” Nora said. She held a tray carrying a small pistachio sesame cream cake and a pot of that smoky Crellish tea Ambrose had liked before.
~
When Nora woke again, she found a bowl of a creamy rice porridge sitting on a tray on her desk. The porridge was still hot.

The bowl placed before Nora was tall and wide, half-filled with steaming soup. The waiter set a mountain of fragrant white rice next to her bowl. The oil in the soup glistened in the sunlight. Soft pink flakes formed a circle in the center of her soup. Surrounding it were a bundle of moon-white mushrooms, a twist of dark green leaves, several translucent slices of a root, and a golden, gelled yolk nestled in two halves of a small, cream egg white. Nora slid her spoon just below the surface, scooping up both soup and a few dots of oil. She sipped it from her spoon. Heat from the spices and peppers warmed her mouth. The fish flavor was subtle and almost sweet. Nora scooped in a spoonful of rice and took a larger bite.

Nora sat on the other side of the tray. He had brought hummus, puffed rice crackers, grilled bananas, and a variety of berries. “This looks delicious.” Ambrose spread some hummus on a cracker and held it out for Nora to take. “I had them add extra lemon to the hummus for your preferred abomination.”

Nora sent him to find them a place to sit while she purchased for them: two bowls of small bowl of cool, sticky rice mixed with black beans, coconut, and mango.

Ambrose met them near the door of the dining room with a large platter of steamed buns. “My treat, today,” he said. Nora had not arranged anything special for lunch, content with whatever the Academy had ordered in, and so had no issue shifting to steamed buns instead. Gabriel likewise shrugged.

“Why luna buns?” Ivy gave her a confused look, but then turned back to her pot. She pulled another spoon from the spoon cup and used it to fish out the one she’d dropped. “They’re the first thing I learned to make. I was too sick to attend the festival on Astelanon so my papa learned how to make luna buns so I wouldn’t miss out.” Her voice, sweet as ever, rang with a note of sadness. “We didn’t have a grill, so he fried the rice instead of grilling it. That’s still my favorite way to make them.” She washed off the spoon that had fallen into her pot and dropped it back into the correct cup.
“No letters yet?” Nora asked, remembering Ivy’s tears from nearly two months ago.
Ivy shook her head. “Do you prefer your ginger syrup hot or sweet?”
“Hot.”
Ivy shot her a quick smile over her shoulder. “Me too. Papa prefers sweet though. He always says his life has had enough spice and that he deserves some sweetness now.” Ivy removed the pot from the heat and gave it one more stir. She then piled her bowl of cooked rice and a bowl of water onto the empty tray and moved them to the table beside Nora. Ivy wet her hands and scooped up some rice to roll into a ball. “He likes fillings in his buns, too. I prefer plain, though.” She glanced up at Nora. “More ginger flavor that way.”
Nora nodded, somewhat disbelieving she and Ivy had this one thing in common. “I prefer plain, too.” Gabriel liked his stuffed with a lemon curd. Ambrose preferred chopped nuts and cardamom.

“Get us a table,” she ordered the others. “I’ll get us some tirazi.”
Gabriel and Ambrose looked puzzled, but Ivy’s eyes widened. “What flavors do they have?” she asked.
“Sweet cream and a sour cherry jam,” Nora said. “You’ve had them?”
“One of my babysitters growing up was from Tegata. She’d make them for special days. Ask if they have lemon cream?”
“I will,” Nora promised. Then, unsure why, she did. The shopkeep did have lemon cream. She also had passion fruit curd.
(Note: Tirazi are fried sweet dough with fillings.)

Nora did not know how to respond to that. She took a bite of her rice. It was unctuous with rich duck meat, soft egg yolks, and a thread of sweet mustard for balance. She savored the bite to give herself a moment to think.

The family table was not covered with a variety of dishes. Instead, Nora only counted five serving plates or bowls, each filled with one of the king’s favorite foods. Outside, Nora knew the others dined a starry sky’s worth of small dishes, each exquisitely flavored. Family did not need such a show of wealth.

Ambrose returned carrying a bottle of esal, a fruit wine made from plums and pineapples.

The next day, Nora sent out for a picnic lunch with a variety of pickled fruits and vegetables with soft patties of pounded rice and a variety of sauces.

But then Gabriel asked, “What did Fletcher want?” His focus was on his meal, a thick stew of vegetables and spices and a side of spongy flatbread. Ambrose, however, was focused fully on her.

“I won’t ask for details then,” Ivy said, scooping up some of her stew with her bread. Not a single drop fell onto her dress. Nora glanced down at her own bowl and the spoon she was using to eat. Before she would have pointed out how uncouth Ivy was for using her bread like a spoon and part of her ached to say the same now, but she knew they weren’t true. Plenty of people didn’t need utensils to eat like Nora did. They were graceful enough to manage without.

“Nowhere,” Nora said quickly. She stuffed a bite of sticky rice and fruit into her mouth. The mint chopped through the dish was cooling.

The girl was back and carrying a large plate and forks. “Apologies, your highness. I didn’t mean to hear or interrupt, but my brother really will slaughter me if I don’t give you some pie. You’ll like it. His pies are the best. He makes his own flour blend.” She slipped the pie onto the table and handed each of them a fork.

Nora took a small bite. The pie had a floral lemon filling that melted over her tongue. The crust was flaky instead of the dense crusts she was accustomed to. She savored the bite, her eyes fluttering closed. When she opened them again, Ambrose was looking away, blushing again, and Gabriel was shaking his head.

Ambrose carried the small tray of sweets over to the table Ivy had chosen inside. He had bought Nora two cinnamon cookies as promised and a golden brown bar for himself. The bar was a smoky caramel brownie the bakery had designed just for Ambrose during one of their many visits prior to joining the Academy. Many sweet shops across the city had added some menu items over the years to appeal to his need for smoky, even burnt flavors.
Ivy had also chosen a cookie, though hers was topped with a soft pink icing. She ate oddly, Nora noticed. After taking one small bite, Ivy scraped off a bit of icing and savored it slowly. Then, she scraped off another piece. Her gaze was studious, but not focused on anything in particular. Then she ate some of the plain cookie without frosting. Again, she chewed very slowly. Finally, she took another normal bite.
Nora glanced at Ambrose to see if he was noticing her behavior as well. He was. “Is everything all right?” Ambrose asked.
Ivy’s cheeks darkened. “Sorry. I had expected a vanilla frosting that would soften the sharpness of the lemon in the cookie, but it isn’t just vanilla. The frosting has a very slight fruit element as well, though not as fresh as the lemon. A tea perhaps? The cookie is also incredibly soft, almost as if—excuse me.” She stood and strode over to the counter. She spoke to the clerk for a moment and then the clerk fled to the kitchen. A moment later, a tall man with arms like barrels exited the kitchen.
Ivy greeted him with a smile. “My apologies for disturbing you,” she said. “I was enjoying your lemon cookie and I had a few questions.” She confirmed the use of tea in the frosting and then turned the discussion to the flours used in the cookie. The baker denied using any rice flours in the cookies which prompted Ivy to ask, “Are you friends with a winemaker then, perhaps?”

“Clever,” Nora said. “My suggestion is The Broken Wheel. They’re another bakery and make rather delicious spiced meat steamed buns.”

“Teo finally convinced his father to add some food to the menu. He said if we give him a day’s warning, he’ll include those big, sticky cinnamon buns on the day’s menu and save us a few.”
“How long have you known about this?” Nora asked, imagining the soft, warm, spicy buns. Teo was two years older than they were and worked in his father’s bar at the harbor. Thanks to his good relationships with merchants, he had access to ingredients others couldn’t afford—like the cinnamon for Nora’s buns.

Nora took a bite of her millet cake. Warmth filled her mouth, which matched well with the spicy ginger tisane.

Nora noticed he barely touched his food—a cool mint and carrot soup and steamed meat buns. It was simple fare, but appropriate for the holiday.
~
Petra filled a small tray with a variety of steamed buns, indicating which were leftover from lunch and which were filled with fruit jelly. She also boiled some water and fixed up a pot of tea. “Tell the prince this is from my private stash,” Petra advised her. “If he wants more, his father needs to finalize his trade deal with Creldyn.”
~
On the bench, Viola divided the half-dozen tirazi between them. Nora chose one with a dot of speckled cream poking out of one end. It was still warm and the fragrant vanilla cream filled her mouth with delight. She hummed in pleasure.

She selected another tirazi, this one smeared with a bit of red jam. The nutty dough complemented the sour cherries well.

Ambrose sprinkled more smoky pepper over his fish as he thought. “I’m sure they’d find need of me if I showed up, but no one’s sent word I need to be home.”
“Good. What do you think, Gabriel?”
Gabriel swallowed a bite of lemon rice. “I’d planned on visiting the harbor, but something new sounds fun.”

“Pickles. Fried pickles on a stick.”
~
“Yes, Petra,” Nora said in a tone she knew would make Petra roll her eyes. Nora followed the corridor into the kitchens and passed along Petra’s instructions. Within moments one of the bakers had her nestled next to a big belly oven with a roll of spongy flatbread spread with honey in one hand and a mug of sweetened tisane in the other. The aroma of rich spices and fish filled the kitchen. The various kitchen servants chattered and shared gossip. Nora withstood the warmth of the oven side seat for two bites of her bread before slowly sneaking away from the kitchen to an outer, cooler room.

Around dinner time, the kitchen staff brought her a small tray of rice and the same rich fish curry she’d smelled earlier.
